Arts Review & what’s going on - 2016

Jane Hamlyn I occasionally mention to you some wonderful event that will have long sold-out, which is probably very annoying, for which I apologise. In order not to miss out on hot selling shows, you need to put yourself on mailing lists which will plop information endlessly into your email inbox months ahead of time, and then you’ll perhaps be swift to the box office. Months ago, I almost missed out on tickets for the Pinter at The Lyceum in August. I had spotted Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart were to play the leads (star studded or what - & both of them Northerners !) but hadn’t expected every other sharp eyed Yorkshireman/woman to hit the ground running on the ticket purchase. Whether you love Pinter or have never seen any, this will be a play worth going to Sheffield for, if only for Gandalf and Star Trek …. And if you haven’t got the tickets by now, then you haven’t a hope. Sorry! But all is not lost on the Pinter score. Cast in Doncaster is putting on the ‘Birthday Party’ for one night only 8 June 7.30 www. castindoncaster.com and this is a tremendous play. Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery y Wed to Fri 10.00 – 16.30, Sat & Sun 10.30 – 4.15 Exhibition: until 26th June: David Venables: ‘Working Lives’ . This is one cracker of a painting show. There isn’t one picture in this show that I would not want on my wall at home. A wonderful painter, his subject is Doncaster, and what a sympathetic eye he has! And until 3rd July: Janet Waring: ‘Regenerative’ I have a remembrance of my A level biology course looking at this work, and jellyfish on Cornish beaches Life drawing: Saturday 25th June 11-1pm and 2 - 4pm Art History Lecture: Friday 3rd June: ‘Private Views - a Modern Perspective of Gardens’ this lecture looks at artists who have made paintings of gardens, including Monet, Klimt, Klee and Spencer. Hello from Mayflower Sanctuary, We are all very excited as we have been chosen by Marks & Spencer Wheatley Hall Road store to be their chosen charity of the year. They have asked whether we would like to go along and take part in a bag pack and bucket collections at their store. It is so wonderful to be chosen as there must have been lots of charities that were nominated. We feel very special working with such a prestigious company. So thank you for voting for us and we will look forward to working with you. At the end of April the cycle race Tour De Yorkshire came through Bawtry and Tickhill. Our volunteers were out and about in Bawtry raising money for us and we also had a Tom Bola stall in Tickhill . The Tom Bola was actually rained off and we left about 1.30 , however in 3 hours we raised £143 which was terrific, so thank you everyone that came to say hello. The race was terrific and the atmosphere was amazing so I hope everyone had a good time. We have started more building work, our kennels are quite noisy which annoys the residents of Bawtry so we are looking to alter them to try and make the kennels a more friendly place and not as intimidating when we have visitors to our Sanctuary. We must apologise as we are upside down again, but please bear with us.

Finding g a forever home Our table top sale a few Sundays ago went really well, so we have decided to arrange one every month. It will held in our reception at the Sanctuary and the dates are below. 29th May 19th June 17th July 14th August 18th Sept So add the above dates to your diary. Look forward to seeing you there. The trick in the case of damp shade is to go for leaf colour, plant form, and texture. Ajuga is excellent for ground cover. A. metallica has purple leaves and tiny blue Ⱦ RZHUV DQG $ UHSWDQV Ȇ9DULHJDWDȇ LV D SUHWW\ variegated cream and green variety. Astilbe does very well in damp shade; it KDV LPSUHVVLYH KDV LPSUHVVLYH UHG UHG SLQN SLQN RU RU ZKLWH ZKLWH Ⱦ ȾRZHU\ RZHU\ plumes depending on the variety chosen. Hostas are also a good choice, though in damp conditions you’ll need to be on slugwatch! If your shade is very dense then don’t choose golden varieties as the colour will fade. Hostas look wonderful planted with primulas, which also do well in these conditions. Some ferns love damp shade, including the Maidenhair fern, Adiantum pedatum; most varieties of dryopteris, and the ostrich feather fern, Matteuccia struthiopteris. 24 HARWORTH TODAY

Jail for Man who raped woman on his birthday A Harworth man, who researched how to clean up blood after he’d beaten and raped a woman, has been MDLOHG IRU \HDUV 7KH RÎ?HQFH occurred on Rutland Crescent, Harworth on 4th September 2015 it was his 28th Birthday. The Male beat his victim, who is in her thirties, around the head and face, and subjected her to a violent sexual assault. He then forced her to bathe and refused to let her leave his clutches until the morning. The male then turned his attention to the Internet where he researched how to cover up D UDSH DQG VSHFLČ´FDOO\ KRZ WR clean up the blood. %XW KLV HÎ?RUWV ZHUH IXWLOH 7KH law caught up with him and, following a trial, he was found guilty of rape, assault causing actual bodily harm (ABH) and false imprisonment. On Friday 15th April 2016 he was sentenced to 15 years in jail for rape, and a further 3 years each for the ABH and false imprisonment. These will run n concurrently. The male will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Orde er DQG ZLOO VLJQ WKH 6H[ 2Î?HQGHUUV Register for life. Detective Inspector Nikki Smith said “This was a brutal and prolonged crime in which h Southall not only left his victim m

bruised and needing stitches but caused her to endure the psychological and emotional trauma of being held captive afterwards. “If that wasn’t enough he then denied the charges and forced her to bear the turmoil of a trial and giving evidence. “For all the work we did to secure this conviction, none of it would have been possible without the fantastic courage of the woman at the centre of this brutal crime. She has shown dignity and resolve in the face of great emotional strain. I hope this conviction has installed in her the feeling of power and strength the male tried so violently to take from her. “Let us also not forget the VLJQLČ´FDQW LPSDFW WKLV FDVH KDV had on the close-knit community of Harworth and Bircotes. There are no winners here, but a 15year jail term and restrictions on Southall’s freedom for life should provide reassurance that he is no longer a threatâ€?. Male targeting vulnerable victims charged and remanded for Burglary and Robbery until September 2016. A Male from the Harworth & Bircotes area has been charged and remanded in custody for a Robbery, Burglary and breach of court bail conditions which all occurred in Harworth in March 2016. The male had been targeting elderly vulnerable victims where he had been stealing money and being intimidating towards his victims where they were pressured into giving him money. The male has been remanded until September 2016 where a trial has been set for the Robbery and Burglary.

Information Continuing with our information about the Medical Practice we look at the third and newest partner in the practice:Dr Jenny Collins (f )MB ChB DCH MRCGP GMC Number 949297. Dr Collins qualified from Sheffield in 2009 and joined The Practice as a partner in 2014 having previously been a registrar at The Practice from August 2013.

Doctors The Practice has 4 GPS at present plus a vacancy which is currently covered by locum doctors. The doctors work such that between them they cover Mon to Fri plus Saturday Mornings and one late night a week, with a half day on Wednesday at the Colliery and on Thursday at Tickhill. Please note that their full time hours are filled in 8 sessions or 4 full days because of the length of the hours covered in those sessions. The surgery also closes for Mandatory Training, as required throughout the year for all clinicians in Doncaster NHS Clinical Commissioning Group on some Wednesday afternoons.
