Whatever you are doing this summer I hope you get the opportunity to enjoy a little bit of relaxation time and make some memories with your loved ones. When I first started writing these monthly introductions to the magazines my children weren’t even all at school, now one has finished and making preparations to fly the nest later this year. The 2nd is just a year behind him and has started her search for her future college or university. The youngest has a few years at home yet and in preparation for her being the last one left at home has just talked us into adding a dog to the household! While they don’t need me around as much as they did when they were younger I will still be taking the opportunity to close the office and have a little holiday with them all while they are all willing to holiday with Mum and Dad!

After The latest CQC Inspection The Tickhill and Colliery Medical Practice has been rated as GOOD. To add to this good news The Practice has also appointed a GP to replace the gap left by the retirement of Dr Saunders last November. Dr Eapen starts on August 3rd 2016 and on behalf of all patients we welcome her and hope she will be very happy working with The Practice.

In line with comments received re the lack of prebookable appointments changes have been made to the system to allow for more pre- bookable appointments. This was done to try and assist patients and avoid the feeling of some patients that they need to queue for an appointment. The best time to phone re a pre-bookable appointment is after 2pm.

Wednesday afternoon closures for Compulsory Training. The surgeries will be closed for compulsory training on the following Wednesdays:September 14th & 28th, October 12th, November 9th. Please note that the Out Of Hours Medical Service operates during all times when the surgery is closed such that medical advice is always available.

However a breakdown of the Appointments booked but NOT attended for June shows the following:116 appointments booked but NOT attended which equates to 23 hours of appointment time lost. Of the 116 appointments not attended, 36 were booked on the day as ‘needing to be seen’ 1 was a late night slot , 4 were booked on line and the vast majority of 75 were pre booked. There is a huge demand for appointments for both doctors and nurses and yet in one month a total of 46 GP appointments were wasted by patients who booked and failed to cancel, along with 70 Nurse appointments. The Patients Group sends our very best wishes to one of our registrars, Dr Majid, who is leaving The Practice at the beginning of August to move to his next rotation. We thank him on behalf of all the patients, hope that he has enjoyed his time at The Tickhill and Colliery Medical Practice and wish him every success for the future.

The Patient Participation Group Interestingly we got more positive comments than we did concerns and as most patients can imagine several of the concerns were about the same issue i.e. difficulties getting a same day appointment. However we did get two positive comments re. appointments stating that things were improving and it was easier to get an appointment. The positive comments also included several about the level of care and communication from GPs and Nurses at The Practice. Waiting indoors to book an appointment. We would like to reiterate the fact that the premises at Harworth are open from 07.30 and ALL patients wanting to sit indoors, whilst waiting to book an appointment at EITHER premises, are welcome to do so. The Practice opens at 08.30 at both premises and appointments can be booked when The Practice opens. Saturday Mornings The practice phones are set to go through to the out of hours service on a Saturday morning to allow ALL patients to access a GP. There are PRE BOOKED appointments and patients with a pre booked appointment on a Saturday should attend their appointment as booked or if unable to attend should phone on a weekday afternoon to rebook or explain. Why is one building open and not the other? The Harworth Health Centre was built using EU regeneration money when the colliery closed and houses multiple GP practices who do NOT own the building, maintain it or lock and unlock it. It is open from 07.30 to 18.00hrs. The Tickhill Medical Practice building in Tickhill is owned by the Tickhill and Colliery Medical Practice and has been adapted over the years having ramp access and downstairs consultation rooms, it opens at 8.30am as does the reception at Harworth and closes at 18.00hrs. Collection of prescriptions All patients can with the approval of their GP avoid having to collect a prescription by

p which allows patients, with GP approval to order repeat medication via their PC, Tablet or smart phone and again these can be sent directly to the dispensing pharmacist. If you would like to join the increasing number of patients who use online services you will need to request a user name and password, allow time for these to be set up and collect your personal security information from reception with some ID. Always one of the most popular exhibitions in the annual programme including paintings and drawings in a variety of media by this thriving local club. Until 17th September. Chris Moss: ‘Wild Wire’ Chris Moss makes sculptures of beasts and birds in order to understand them better, both their physiognomy and behaviour. Her sculptures are made from new and reclaimed materials, sourced from every-day suppliers of functional wire and metal products. She describes her work as drawing in 3 dimensions, using the material’s natural tension as a line to describe form and movement. Each work is an original study of anatomy and behaviour, giving a sense of life and energy to the subject. Time to Raise the Curtain on the Men in Tights at Tickhill Estfeld In July the parents and friends of the pupils of Estfeld were treated to three wonderful performances of Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies. The plays were a sell-out and the cast and chorus put on three memorable performances. It was wonderful to see our SXSLOV SHUIRUPLQJ ZLWK VXFK FRQȴ GHQFH DQG the comedy certainly hit the spot. The comic lines were delivered with excellent timing and left the audience in tears of laughter.

Go For Gold, Year 5 and 6 Production

On the evenings of 4th and 5th of July Years 5 and 6 presented their end of year production. Due to recent events, such as our wonderful trip to Whitby, rehearsal time ZDV YHU\ VKRUW :RXOG ZH SXOO LW R΍ LQ WLPH was the question?! Our production, ‘Go For Gold’ was to do with our class topic on Ancient Greece. It tells the story of Susie Swift, a young gifted athlete, who is thinking of pulling out of the Olympic Games. With the help of a few Spartan and Athenian athletes and of course the mighty Olympian Gods she comes to understand that to ‘Go For Gold’ isn’t about the money but the honour and glory of competing. Everyone really enjoyed singing all the catchy, humourous songs such as ‘The Truce’ and ‘Champion’ but the favourite by a mile was ‘Celebrate!’ People worked really hard

Boston Park Farm... Tearooms and Maize Maze is a fantastic place to take toddlers and young children to play in the indoor and outdoor play areas whilst you enjoy a relaxing pot of tea in the lovely tearooms. The Maize Maze is now open and it consists of 5km of paths which, being only 5 feet wide, give the feeling of exploring through the jungle. Open from 10am until 5pm every day with last entry to the maze at 4pm and entry prices are £6 each and £20 for a family ticket (any 4 people), children under 2yrs are free. There are also all the animals to see and feed, including alpacas, goats, donkeys, sheep, chickens and pigs. New chicks are also hatching out all the time and each day at 11:30 and 2:30

Tickhill and District July and August are the quiet months for the he History Society, but 46 members enjoyed a day out in Lincoln, where we were shown the original Roman entrances to the city, viewed the Magna Carta, walked the castle walls and enjoyed seeing ‘The Wave’ a striking exhibition of the World War I poppies. This is the growing season and complaints from pedestrians not being able to access the free passage on pavements, causing them to have to walk on the road, keep coming in. Complaints have been forwarded to the Police about residents parking on the pavements causing obstructions. Many residents have complained about the condition of the Cemetery and Footpaths. Meetings have taken place with the Head of Service at D.M.B.C. and hopefully matters will have improved dramatically. If you see footpaths, kerbs or such like in need of repair please report these to D.M.B.C. on 736000. Anti social behaviour is still to be addressed with a zero tolerance so if you see any such behaviour please report it on 101, everyone must work together to eliminate it. There have been several arrests for drug offences so if your children are not at home please make sure you know where they are and what they are doing. The Children’s activities will be offered again this 6weeks holiday; Tuesday and Thursday afternoons 1.30pm – 3.30pm. Please come along and join in the fun.
