allsorts going on at Cast, Doncaster’s newest Theatre Cast’s first Christmas production is a Pantomime favourite Cinderella. Audiences should expect a fun filled, proper pantomime – with the addition of tunes from The Black Eyed Peas, and Lady GaGa, live music, and, of course, a good helping of ‘Doncaster-ness’! Running from 5 – 31 December, Cinderella is suitable for all. Set in Donny, Cinderella is stuck at home all day looking after her horrid step mum Fiendella, and ugly sisters Salmonella and Rubella, whilst they sit around stuffing their faces and making fart jokes. With only the over-enthusiastic, but ineffectual Buttons for company, it doesn’t look like she’ll be going to the pick-a-princess-ball any time soon. But after a chance encounter, and a wave of dust from fairy god mum, it’s all back on – and the prince, who knew all along that he just wanted to meet somebody normal – has got to go out and find his mystery woman. But how is he supposed to find someone who likes sticks, goal line technology and most importantly, has size 4 feet in a whole kingdom? It seems unlikely, but then sometimes things are just meant to be… Also at Cast this Christmas is Slung Low’s 59 Minutes to Save Christmas, (14–23 December), an interactive headphone adventure takes little explorers on a journey around the building in an attempt to save Christmas from the evil Professor Meanwood! A fun filled trip for intrepid adventurers and brave parents (who might be useful for reaching the high stuff), direct from a 2012 smash-hit run at the Barbican. Is it too late to save Christmas... Cast. opened in September, since then over 15,000 people have been through the doors of the town’s cultural living room. Cast is the flagship element of Doncaster’s new £300 million Civic and Cultural Quarter (CCQ). Operated by an independent trust, the building is jointly funded by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council and Arts Council England. Tickets for Cast’s opening season are on sale via Doncaster Ticket Office 01302 303 959 tickets are also available from www.castindoncaster.com

No-Bot: The Robot with No Bottom
- Sue Hendra Bernard the Robot has an unusual problem. Can he find the solution? Can he find his bottom? Bernard is left with no bottom, after an unfortunate incident, in which he leaves it behind on a swing at the park. At first he doesn’t notice, but by the time he does his bottom is long gone – it has been a bird’s nest, a drum and who knows what else! Sadly for Bernard his friends can’t help, and when they advise him to sit down, he has to remind them that he isn’t a robot any more – he is a no-bot. Will he find his bottom before it is too late? This book appeals to young children on so many levels. For a start, it is about bottoms. There is a ‘hide and seek’ element of trying to spot Bernard’s bottom, and even a dance to do. I challenge you to read without giggling!
Denzil the Mouse
- Katherine Crowe Denzil is a delightful "home grown" joy. Conceived by Katherine as a bedtime story for her children, Denzil has sprung to life through her daughter Becky's wonderful illustrations. Denzil is a mouse with a message that is very relevant to children today - he doesn't look like a mouse "should", he's put together all funny, but he finds how to make the best of what he has, and that he has more gifts than he realises, defying the "shoulds" to find his own strengths in the world.

Recommendations from respectable residents available
Jack's Mega Machines - The Rocket Racing Car - Alison Ritchie and Mike Byrne
On the surface, this is a fairly typical picture book for 3 - 6 year olds. Jack is readying his rocket car for an amazing race, helped by Riley the dog. They line up against an array of alien craft and off they go - with all the thrills and spills you might expect. The bonus, however, is that inside the book is a pull out model of the very rocket Jack is racing in, meaning that young readers can race along with him. Simple and sturdy, it allows the story to be acted out, continued and extended as far as the child's imagination can go - in other words, a very long way. There are others in the series - a dinosaur digger and a supersonic submarine - which will appeal to the 'collector instinct' which all young boys seem to have. Simply told, engagingly drawn and with just the right balance of excitement, this is definitely one to look out for. This is the message of the whole book as a mum works to defy the odds and her mission to continue to find joy and create beautiful things even as she deals with the reality of a terminal illness. Denzil the Mouse is a story kids and grown ups will find inspiring and he even has his own website! www.denzilthemouse.co.uk Parties available from £5.99 per child
