Miners Pension Compensation We are successfully claiming compensation for former miners who transferred out of the Mineworkers Pension Scheme. Many miners were advised to transfer their British Coal Pension to a private pension scheme which paid considerably less! This was bad advice and many retired miners or their widows have lost out. Example 1 - £135,000 Mr J. of GREAT HOUGHTON was advised in 1991 by an agent of Sun Life to transfer £25,000 from his mineworkers pension scheme to them. We were able to show this was bad advice and obtained compensation of £135,000.

We are now helping Yorkshire miners and their families TODAY claim the compensation they deserve. See our adverts in the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and Sunday People.

Example 2 - £100,359 Mr P. of BARNSLEY was advised in 1989 by an agent of Abbey Life to transfer £9300 from his mineworkers pension. He was wrongly advised and Abbey Life paid compensation of £100,359.

Welcome to the

Today

June 2019 edition

“You may not be able to control every situation and its outcome but you can control your attitude and how you deal with it” Allen Klein June already and the summer months are upon us. Exam season is almost over and you can find a summer fair, gala or other outdoor event to go to most weekends. You will find details of several such events on these pages. Following the success of our Rita Ora ticket giveaway, this month we have a pair of tickets for Madness performing after racing at Doncaster Racecourse this summer. Look out for the Giveaway details on page 13 of this magazine for your chance to enter. I thought it was about time I updated my photo across the magazines – people have been starting to notice that the previous image taken quite a few years ago was just a little out of date! Perhaps now if you see me out and about delivering magazines, or visiting local businesses you will recognise me! Thank you very much to Di Fisher at The Photo Den for offering everyone present at a recent networking meeting the opportunity to have a new headshot taken. Di is an experienced Business Photographer, who also offers Photo Walks, Workshops and social events for those keen to improve their photography skills. Visit www. photoden.biz to find out more. The July issue will be delivered to you early in July. If you would like to have something included in this, please make sure details are with me by Tuesday 25th June. Don’t forget to let me have details in good time if you have an event to publicise this summer. Enjoy June and I will be back in a months’ time with your July magazine.

Best wishes,

Welcome to this month's news, letting you know the current activities and plans for the Menes Group, Doncaster. We have had a fairly lean month due to annual holidays, so we do need some new members to make up the numbers. Audley has been on his regular travels and will, no doubt, be relating his stories in the coming days.

CMY

K

A trip either on the Wyre Lady down the river, or a trip to Cleethorpes has been suggested for early September. In the past we have enjoyed both trips, so the choice is yours. The group meets every Wednesday in the St James Church Hall, Hexthorpe Bridge, at 12.30. We can be contacted for information on: Rob on 07710473301, or Audley on 07882492881.

THE UK’S PREMIER EMERGENCY SERVICES SHOW

A good natural environment is important for the wellbeing and prosperity of all residents in the Doncaster region. For more than 70 years domestic and EU laws have aimed to sustain a wildlife rich natural world. In spite of this, the 2016 State of Nature report showed that 56% of species had declined across the UK between 1970 and 2013. In July 2018, the Prime Minister announced that the Government would introduce an Environmental Bill to underpin its 25 year environmental plan. It hopes to ' leave the environment on a better state than it found it'. All Wildlife Trusts, including Yorkshire welcome this recognition that new laws are needed to slow and reverse the decline of wildlife. The Wildlife Trusts, along with other organisations form the Greener UK Coalition. Together they are campaigning for a new Environmental Bill to benefit nature and our own health, wellbeing and prosperity. Yorkshire Wildlife Trust manages Potteric Carr Nature Reserve in Balby. Recently, staff and volunteers met Dame Rosie Winterton MP to discuss working towards any new Environmental Bill. If you are interested in promoting wildlife and enjoying nature you can visit Potteric Carr, Mallard Way, DN4 8DB which is open daily from 9an to 5pm. If you would like more information about the Wilder Yorkshire campaign you can find details on the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust website.

DONCASTER’S

FIRST NEW

SWIMMING POOL

in a generation is celebrating its 1st Successful year! T

Swimstars and Dolphins opened the doors to their brand-new boutique Swim School last year. Sara Pegden and Sue Fynney, mother and daughter who ventured into Swimstars and Dolphins in the year 2000 have transformed the way children learn to swim with their own unique progressive swim scheme which is highly recommended by families. The pool opened within Marrtree Industrial Estate in Wheatley, Doncaster in April 2018. After an initial battle for planning permission the pool has gone from strength to strength with hundreds of children attending and learning to swim every week. The custom built pool has provided a space where families, children and schools can enjoy the exclusive use of the swimming facility making it a more personal and friendly experience. This is one of the many reasons why over 30 Primary Schools in the surrounding area are now using Swimstars to deliver lessons as part of their swimming provision. Other activities such as Aquafit also take place at the pool.

DONCASTER RAMBLERS T

Every month we undertake a variety of walks with something to suit all abilities. Councillor Martin Greenhalgh

Sue said: “This year has been everything we envisaged and more. It is so uplifting to see families and children attending our pool week in week out with smiling faces. Dragonflies lay their eggs under water so if you have a pond with reasonable plant cover that the insects can rest on to lay their eggs then all the better.

GIVEN FREELY, FREELY GIVEN T

Have you ever wondered what happens when you donate clothes into a charity clothes bag or a collecting bin at a super market? Or what happens when you put some extra food into a food bank trolley at work or a supermarket. These were things I pondered a few years ago but something I never thought I would be involved in organising. In four years our Given Freely Freely Given initiative by local churches has grown from a small poorly attended coffee shop to a free coffee shop attended by 50-80 people a week with access to a series of alternative banks for clothes, toiletries, food and small household items. I can now answer what happens when we donate clothes, food or toiletries; and would love to be able to share this information with you and also share some of the ways donations help people get through a crisis both short and long term. On Thursday 20th June 7pm we will be giving a talk at Carr Lodge School about the work we are doing and how donations are used to help the marginalised in Balby. We are very grateful to the school for allowing us to use their building. We would love you to join us. We would also love you to join us for a Free family fun afternoon on Saturday 6th July at St John’s Balby Church on Greenfield Lane between 1pm - 3pm when we will have games, sports, crafts, music, cafe and plenty more activities. From your local churches in Balby, Loversall and Wadworth and for further information check www.blwchurch.com or find us on facebook or email wadwithlove@gmail.com
