Bawtry Churches Together Tool Appeal In 2005 the churches and people of Bawtry raised in excess of £20,000 and sent a local team, to help build a children’s home after the tsunami in Sri Lanka. We are continuing to support this work by helping to provide tools and basic equipment for the people of Sri Lanka trying to rebuild their lives and livelihoods after the tsunami and recent war. We are now appealing for items that usually find their way to charity shops or jumble sales. These items do not need to be new. Why not declutter, create space and at the same time help develop our work. We are looking for : Hand Tools, Power Tools, Pots and Pans (unbreakable), Basic Stationary, Spectacles, Sewing Machines, Mobiles (with chargers) & Computers. Alternatively call in to Timber Joint and order a new tool - they have a list of requirements. Tickhill and Bawtry Probus Club
Despite the cold weather attendances at recent meetings have been very good with one or two visitors / prospective members present to hear some very interesting speakers. We meet at 10.30 AM (coffee served from 10.00 AM) on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 10.30AM at Tickhill Cricket Pavilion and visitors will be welcome. Our programme of talks for the next three months includes: 8th April. “My Polish Experience” by Rose Katuszowek 22nd April. “Court Room Artist” by John Gilbert. 13th May. “Pennine Journey” by Stephen Gay. (Stephen is a fairly regular speaker at the club and one not to be missed). 27th May.” Panama Canal – History and Construction” by Dr Murray Wilson. 10th June. “Dance Band Days” by Jeffery Turner 24th June. “Laura’s Story” by Mrs L Thickett. Surely there is something for everybody in this programme which, taken together with the opportunity for fellowship offered by Probus to retired men and the opportunity to escape for a morning the household tasks which seem to come with retirement, makes the club irresistible for many of us.
Tickhill & District Lions You will all be aware that Tickhill & District Lions raise money and give our time to help good causes within our community of Tickhill, Wadworth, Rossington, Harworth, Bircotes, and Bawtry. However, together with the 900 other clubs within the UK & Ireland and over 45,000 clubs worldwide, we also raise money to help those in need around the world. When we do this we are very careful to ensure that the money we donate gets directly to the people who need it, and we frequently choose to support projects through the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF). So this month I wanted to update you all on some of the work that the LCIF has been doing recently to help those in need. I am sure that everyone remembers where they were when news of the devastating 7.0 earthquake in Haiti broke. After the earthquake struck, Lions Clubs immediately responded, and through donations from individual clubs like Tickhill & District Lions, the LCIF has mobilized nearly US$2.4 million to date. The LCIF, like all Lions organisations, funds its own administrative costs and so ensures that every penny donated is spent directly on the humanitarian project, often enlisting the help of Lions Clubs local to the area where help is needed. In Haiti more than 3,000 people are now being sheltered in three tent cities in Delmas, Blanchard and Carrefour-Feuille that Haitian Lions have established. Lions are continuing to work to provide sanitation, kitchens and health clinics, and the LCIF is also leveraging Lions' donations through collaboration with other NGOs and corporations providing relief. One of Lions' greatest strengths is the support we give to our fellow members in times of need. When disasters strike, LCIF and Lions from around the world are there to support one another. Our collective response to the disaster in Haiti is a great example of how the money you donate through Tickhill & District Lions helps those in need around the world as well as within our community. If you’d like to learn more please visit the ‘News & Events’ page on our website (www.tickhill-lions.com) where you will find a short video about the work we’re doing in Haiti as well as links to the LCIF website which has more information and examples of other ways that Lions help.

Top tips for Running for weight loss By Bawtry Health & Fitness Studio 1) Make sure you start your run fully fuelled and hydrated. Most people find that a good sized meal will take 2 – 3 hours to digest before you can run. Stay off the caffeinated drinks before a run such as coffee, tea and cola. Drink water or fruit juices. 2) If you will be running for more than an hour take some carbohydrate out with you. This can be a banana or a sports carbohydrate drink. If you choose anything other than the sports drink, you will need to also take out some water to stay hydrated. 3) When you get back from your run have something to eat within 15 mins. A banana or any wholegrain carbohydrate will do the trick – perhaps you prefer an oatcake, a bowl of cereal or a slice of wholegrain toast with jam on. Eating within 15 minutes of your run takes advantage of the increased enzyme sensitivity in your body to absorb carbohydrates and refuel ready for next time. ‘All I would say is set a program which is achievable to aim for and build into it, and try running with a group or friend its more fun!' MAYFLOWER ANIMAL SANCTUARY, NARROW LANE, BAWTRY Hopefully these cold wet days are behind us and we can look forward to some sunshine. We all try hard to keep our spirits up in the winter months, but it is not easy. Too much washing, not enough daylight hours, not enough volunteers (lots of people seem to hibernate in the winter months) But we have to stay positive and make sure that all these dogs and cats are in the best possible place, until their forever loving homes come along. Our new build is finally finished, and what a difference it has made. We now have a separate laundry room, vets room, puppy block and socialising room (with a conservatory no less) To top it all we have our very first resident, a Rotti with her 9 puppies. She is called Zena a lovely 2 year old that had been living rough until some very kind people took her in and then realised she was about to give birth to her babies. We came to the rescue and just hours after having her babies she was brought to us. So our new build was well and truly Christened. We have some really lovely dogs and cats in our Sanctuary at the moment from cross breeds to pedigrees, Including 2 lovely affectionate Whippets (one x) they are Misty and Minor still young dogs and would make lovely pets. There owner unfortunately could no longer take care of them. Our Cyprus project is well under way and we are expecting our first 3 dogs to come into Robin Hood Airport mid March. We are all very excited about this project and the majority of dogs that will be here are White Cyprus Poodles which are very affectionate small dogs, the type that we are asked for constantly . If you would like to know more about these dogs or the project please call us we will be happy to tell you more. Our vets bills are still our highest expenditure (£33,000 in 2009) so we are always looking for new fund raising projects to boost our coffers. If anyone has some time to spare to take on board or help with fundraising please call us we would be very grateful of more help, as there is never enough time in a day and extra hands are always welcome. Our fund raising Black Tie Ball is to be on the 19th June this year and will again be held at The Olde Bell Hotel at Barnby Moor which is a fabulous venue, with a four course dinner, dancing and disco. Not forgetting Trax FM will be there to support us. It is always a popular event and the place to be seen. So if you would like tickets they are £35 each call 07840203688 we will be happy to reserve them for you. We have numerous fund raising events through out the year and are desperate for people to help. Either to organise or quite simply rattle collecting tins. If you think you can help please call me and I will be happy to let you know when and where our fund raising events will be. We are also recruiting for our Charity shop in Manton. Again at the moment we are unable to open all week as we do not have the amount of volunteers required. The recession is hitting us hard, and our donations are down by 50%. So the fund raising Ball is particularly one event that must succeed as this is one of our most popular fund raisers. If anyone would like further information about our Sanctuary please call us on 01302 711330 or Mags on 07840 203688 we will be happy to help
Bawtry Phoenix Theatre 15th to 22nd May - Blithe Spirit, a comic play by Noel Coward. The play concerns socialite and novelist Charles Condomine (played by Phil Healing) who invites the eccentric medium and clairvoyant, Madame Arcati (Jane Wheatley) to his house to conduct a séance, hoping to gather material for his next book. The scheme backfires when he is haunted by the ghost of his annoying and temperamental first wife, Elvira (Helen Shepherd), following the séance. Elvira makes continual attempts to disrupt Charles's marriage to his second wife, Ruth (played by Rebecca Fowler), who cannot see or hear the ghost. The seven strong cast is completed by Natalie Young in the role of Edith, Tony Abbott as Doctor Bradman, and Liz Atkinson as Mrs Bradman. Performances start at 7:30 pm. Airport News by Clare Wilson, Environment & Community Manager Robin Hood Airport attracted the attention of aviation enthusiasts in February with the arrival of the world’s largest aircraft, the Antonov 225. Only one AN225 MRYIA (Dream) was ever built by the company ANTONOV and this giant of the skies, operated by specialist Antonov Airlines, Ukraine, landed in Doncaster to collect a generator which was urgently needed at a Power Station in Lahore, Pakistan. Paul Rodwell, Cargo Director from Peel Airports Group said: “The AN225 is the largest cargo freighter in the world and we are absolutely thrilled that it was able to land here in Yorkshire, a first for the region.” Moving from large aircraft to much smaller aircraft, the Airport is pleased to welcome the arrival of Kinch Aviation to the Airport Business Park. Kinch Aviation, run by Paul and Deborah Kinch, has relocated to Hangar 2 at Doncaster Sheffield Airport from Gamston Airport, in Nottinghamshire. Kinch Aviation maintain, service and repair corporate jets has moved in to Doncaster Sheffield Airport Business Park thanks to an upturn in business. Kinch Aviation was appointed as a Cessna Citation Authorised Service Centre in 2008 once they had completed a large investment in training, spares and tooling. The company was started in 2001 to provide high quality support to Business Aircraft in the North of England and today provides services for over 50 aircraft from across Europe and as far afield as Moscow and South Africa. Mike Morton, Airport Director said: “We are delighted to welcome Kinch Aviation to our growing network of businesses that have relocated to the airport business park. The fact that we are attracting such a high quality of businesses to Doncaster is great for the town and will no doubt have a positive impact on our business.” Kinch Aviation has grown rapidly over the last five years and now employs a local workforce of highly skilled engineers. Specialising in the Cessna Citation range of Corporate Jets Kinch employ 15 engineers and have 4 apprentices on their books at present from South Yorks and surround areas.
Following on from concerns raised by Bawtry residents at the recent Planning Committee in January, the Airport has commenced a portable noise monitoring programme in Bawtry. The programme started on the 17th February 2010 on St Martins Avenue and will move on to other locations in Bawtry throughout the year. The noise data obtained from the portable noise monitoring unit will inform residents of the exact noise exposure levels experienced at their property. Furthermore, the data will be used to review qualification for the Sound Insulation Grant Scheme offered by the Airport. For further information about noise monitoring please contact me at the Airport or email environment@robinhoodairport.com. And finally, for those who have had enough of the slippery conditions and chilly winds, easyJet, the largest UK airline, has launched a massive summer seat sale, with up to 25% off flights between 19
April and 15 July 2010. A wide selection of low-cost, frequent flights from Doncaster Sheffield can be booked now to Barcelona, Prague, Majorca and Faro as well as low cost flights every day to Amsterdam.

Bawtry Town Council NEWSLETTER April 2010 www.bawtrytowncouncil.co.uk
Condition of roads and paths Following the lengthy cold spell, the town's roads and paths require considerable attention. Bawtry Town Council is surveying the centre of town and will be forwarding a comprehensive list of problem areas to DMBC. If residents are particularly aware of any potholes, road surfaces breaking up, broken or uneven paths, loose kerbstones etc. in their part of town it would be a great help if they would either inform the Town Clerk or the staff at Bawtry Library. Leisure Area at Pemberton Ings DMBC has acquired an area of land as part of a planning application Section 106 agreement relating to the Pemberton Ings development off Tickhill Road. A sum of ÂŁ111K has been approved and allocated for the laying out of this land. Doncaster's Neighbourhood Management Team will be conducting a series of consultation events to determine what kind of facilities Bawtry Town Council and in particular the local residents would like to see at this site Spring Gardens DMBC has informed Bawtry Town Council that work to surface the un-adopted road at Spring Gardens is scheduled to take place in 2013 or 2014. This work is long overdue. The estimated cost involved is ÂŁ130K and the scheme is to be included in DMBC's budget proposals due to be approved any time now. Bawtry Town Council will continue to remind DMBC of its commitment to Spring Gardens. Tunnel Tech Misson Bawtry Town Council supports Misson Parish Council and others in their continued and strenuous efforts to establish the elimination of the obnoxious smells which emanate from the Tunnel Tech plant between Newington and Misson. Bassetlaw Council has given the company a further reprieve and allocated yet more time for them to sort out this flaw in their process. In the meantime residents suffer. Tunnel Tech and Basstetlaw both need to be made aware of all the times the smells drift over Bawtry.
Council Meetings Meetings of Bawtry Town Council are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7p.m. in the New Hall on Station Road. These meetings are open to the public. At the start of the meeting there is always an opportunity for anyone attending to draw to the attention of the Council any matters which are causing concern. The attendance of residents at these meetings is much appreciated. USEFUL NUMBERS Robin Hood Airport – to report severe aircraft noise 01302 623499. AUSTERFIELD PARISH COUNCIL Welcome to the new Austerfield Newsletter to be published quarterly in this magazine and delivered to your door. Each issue will highlight key issues identified from recent meetings of the Parish Council. The following items are taken from recent meetings: Following the Resignation of Councillor P. Oxlade the Council has co- opted Mr. R. A. C. Harrison 27 South View Austerfield to fill the vacancy. Following the period of wet weather arrangements were being made to install five-a-side goal posts on the recreation field along with picnic tables. The Parish Precept had been increased by 2% raising the annual precept from £7900 to £8058 for the Financial Year 2010/11.
