We do take the distribution of the magazines very seriously and have an easy way for people to let us know if they aren’t receiving their copy. If you know of someone who isn’t getting a copy of the magazine or perhaps you picked this copy up from one of our pick up points locally as you don’t get one through your door, then please text ‘1TODAY + your street name’ to 66777 and we will do our best to put that right for you. The July issues will be delivered to you late June. If you would like to have something included in this, please make sure details are with me by Friday 10th June. Exam time is once again upon us. The controversial SATs exams have been completed, and in schools and colleges everywhere students are currently sitting GCSE’s, AS levels and A levels as well as a wide range of other examinations now available to our young people. I have 2 children in the midst of this again this year and can sympathise with all those who can’t wait for exam season to be over!

Hello from Mayflower Sanctuary, We are all very excited as we have been chosen by Marks & Spencer Wheatley Hall Road store to be their chosen charity of the year. They have asked whether we would like to go along and take part in a bag pack and bucket collections at their store. It is so wonderful to be chosen as there must have been lots of charities that were nominated. We feel very special working with such a prestigious company. So thank you for voting for us and we will look forward to working with you. At the end of April the cycle race Tour De Yorkshire came through Bawtry and Tickhill. Our volunteers were out and about in Bawtry raising money for us and we also had a Tom Bola stall in Tickhill . The Tom Bola was actually rained off and we left about 1.30 , however in 3 hours we raised £143 which was terrific, so thank you everyone that came to say hello. The race was terrific and the atmosphere was amazing so I hope everyone had a good time. We have started more building work, our kennels are quite noisy which annoys the residents of Bawtry so we are looking to alter them to try and make the kennels a more friendly place and not as intimidating when we have visitors to our Sanctuary. We must apologise as we are upside down again, but please bear with us.
Finding g a forever home Our table top sale a few Sundays ago went really well, so we have decided to arrange one every month. It will held in our reception at the Sanctuary and the dates are below. 29th May 19th June 17th July 14th August 18th Sept So add the above dates to your diary. Look forward to seeing you there. We have a vacancy within our Sanctuary for a Kennel Manager, Experience is essential, 40 hours per week, 5 days a week (including weekends) The right person needs to inspire and lead a team of volunteers and staff, they will also be responsible for the welfare and care of all of the Sanctuary dogs. Interested ? Please forward your cv to info@mayflowersanctuary. co.uk or post to the address below. If you would like any further information about our Sanctuary please do not hesitate to call us, or come along to our Sanctuary and look around to see the work we do. Hope to see you soon Bye for now

Bawtry Residents Group Representatives from the Residents Group attended a number of planning meetings organised by Councillor Rachael Blake for the Tour De Yorkshire on the 30th April. As a result of all the planning by all parties concerned a fantastic display of colour awaited the cyclists as they road into Bawtry Town Centre. The route was lined with crowds of people to cheer the cyclists on as they road through. Well done to all who arranged the days events in Bawtry, a great day and experience was had by all.

THE DRIVE TO B It’s no secret that car salesmen have developed a less than positive reputation over the years, meaning that finding someone you trust when looking to buy a new car is really important. Started by local businessman, Steve Burrows in 1999, Burrows Toyota remains family-owned and run and is still serving customers from across Yorkshire who first bought cars with Steve and the team in the 90s. If that isn’t testament enough to the superior service on offer, maybe the handful of national awards that we’ve scooped for customer service and technical skills in the last couple of years will provide extra peace of mind.
Your local Burrows Toyota – the original Burrows dealership – may look a lot different than when it opened 17 years ago, but very little has changed in terms of the team’s dedication to high levels of customer service coupled with great value deals on new and used cars. From cost-effective hybrids, including the new Rav4 Hybrid 4x4, and small cars suited for nipping around town to the ever powerful Hilux and practical Proace van, Burrows Toyota Doncaster is not far away and has something to suit every driving need.
Call in today for a complementary tea, coffee or soft drink and find out how we can help.

David’s £20.00 note ended up in a balloon that had been on the stage for an hour, Cilla was stunned to realise her watch KDG JRQH DQG PRUH VR WR ȴ QG LW LQ D VHDOHG FDQ of cashew nuts, Tim picked at word at random from a dictionary and Steve looked into Tim’s eyes and then wrote the correct word on a card (it was ‘ozone’) – and so the evening went on. The magician kept saying, “And that, ladies and gentlemen, is impossible!” and it seemed he was right although we all knew that he was using sleight of hand, misdirection, etc. However, no matter how hard we all watched, how the tricks were done remained beyond us. Before the show I had dinner with Steve and he said to me that we all ask; “How did the magician do that?” but the more important question is “When did he/ she do that?” I think the normal answer to that question is, “a lot earlier than you think.” Some of us wake up one day, look in the mirror and, shocked, ask ourselves, “When did I become so bald/ grey/ old?” We certainly didn’t seem so middle-aged yesterday, and yet, today, we look like our father or mother. How did that happen? We know full well that old age is waiting in the wings for all of us but are surprised when it suddenly makes an appearance. 40 BAWTRY TODAY
Steve also told me that new tricks take months to create – you have to think of the illusion; work out, or make, what props you need; write a patter around the trick and then practice it perfectly at least 50 times before taking it before an audience. Unlike modern society, the Bible doesn’t consider old age as something that happens once life is all but over, rather it celebrates those latter years. Grey hair, it says, is the splendour of experience and a crown of glory; wisdom comes with age and God is just as interested in the 90 year old as He is in the 19 year old. Victorian church leader DL Moody said this: “Preparation for old age should begin not later than one’s teens. A life which is empty of SXUSRVH XQWLO ZLOO QRW VXGGHQO\ EHFRPH ȴ OOHG on retirement.” It may take 6 months to make an illusion, but it takes 50 years to prepare IRU WKH ȴ QDO IXUORQJ 7KDW LV ZK\ WKH %LEOH DOVR encourages us to; “not forget your maker in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come.” I don’t know how or why but I am convinced that God is more than willing to give joy and hope to all, young and old alike, even R HULQJ IRUJLYHQHVV WR WKH KDUGHVW RI KHDUWV after 80 years of rebellion. “And that, ladies and gentlemen, is not impossible!”.

Bawtry try Town Council - JUNE 2016
Bawtry Town Council - ANNUAL UAL REPORT- 2015/2016 This report covers the period 1st April 2015 to 31st March 2016 The year commenced with a contingent of members of 12 instead of 13 due to awaiting the May round of elections. Our grateful thanks to our Clerk Jennifer Worthington who has worked tirelessly to support the council over the year and has now retired. Jen has worked hard for the council for many years and her presence will be missed. We welcome Angela Harrison to the role of Clerk to the council and look forward to working with her for the good of Bawtry. We would also give our thanks to our handymen Paul Vallows and David Shaw for their outstanding work in looking after all BTC sites and the streets of Bawtry. We give grateful thanks to Councillors Jean Cox, George Spencer and Les Winter who have all resigned from council and we thank them for their outstanding FRQWULEXWLRQ WR %DZWU\ &RXQFLOORU *HRÎ? +XWW KDV also resigned due to ill health and we thank him for his input to council and his audit skills in particular. We welcome Doug Cartwright and Alan Claypole who joined the council in April and look forward to working with them. Christmas Lights Switch on - We thank the Bawtry Retail Association and in particular Becky the Chair, Excel Parking and Roger Tuby for organising such a wonderful afternoon and evening on Friday 28th November to coincide with the switch on of Christmas lights in Bawtry . The town looked splendid and a large number of people visited and had very good comments about Bawtry To Quote Becky “This was the Bawtry retailers associations way of saying thank you to residents and customers alike as without them we would not be here and this is what helps keeps Bawtry such a pretty lovely and vibrant town. Big thanks to excel parking and Bawtry Town Council for their support for this event which would not have happened without them.â€? Christmas Eve saw over 500 people attend the “Carol’s around the treeâ€? event organised by Bawtry Churches Together and, despite 54 BAWTRY TODAY

As we published earlier IGas have applied for planning permission to drill two exploration wells at a site at Misson Springs North of Misson and have published an environmental impact scoping document which we have lodged a copy of in Bawtry Community Library. We will continue to monitor the progress of this activity. Parish precepts are still held at ÂŁ26000 for the coming year for the 13th year running, whilst the DMBC have increased their base council, we have been able to keep our precept low due to other income mainly from the Market Hill car park. The Town Council continues to make representation to DMBC on issues that they control in Bawtry for speed limits, potholes, and the state of the footpaths, signage and highway matters in general. These matters, although DMBC have constraints imposed upon them, tend to be slow to come to fruition. Kerbing changes have again been requested at the junction of Tickhill Road and the High Street but again with no positive outcome. Issues of inconsiderate and irresponsible parking are reported but, although DMBC do respond, they are often slow in that response. 20 mph signs DUH QRZ XS RQ 6RXWK $YHQXH DQG ČľDVKLQJ PSK advisory signs are due to be erected on Station Road Thanks to Ward Councillor Rachael Blake. Dear Friends, Commonwealth countries are celebrating the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II on 11th June this year. As part of the celebrations, the Bible Society has published a book with the title, ‘the servant Queen and the King she served’. I wrote about ‘service’ a couple of months ago so I would have preferred to write about another issue. However, it seems appropriate that as we celebrate the Queen’s birthday, there is the need to consider what describes her as a ‘servant Queen’. 7KH ERRN LGHQWLČ´ HV PDQ\ LVVXHV LQFOXGLQJ WKH fact that she works hard. An extract from the book states: ‘The queen works hard because she is committed to service‌ The queen’s work is an expression of her desire to serve others. She is not a hired servant who is required to do lots of tasks; she is a queen who chooses to serve her people through doing the work that will best contribute to the nation’s health’. It is also stated in the book that the Queen protects her privacy but her faith is not private. She is open about what she believes in and speaks of Jesus Christ as an ‘inspiration’, a ‘role model’ and ‘an anchor’.
you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them (John 13: 12 – 16) Service comes with respect for one another. I wonder how many of us are prepared to bend the rules to let an odd person into our group. Some people have prejudice against at least one individual or group of people or a nationality. This means that those individuals or group of people or nationalities may not be welcome. Yes, some people may be able to argue their cases out regarding not being able to welcome people. But I wonder if we can be of service to people we are not ready to welcome into our midst. This month, as we celebrate the Queen’s birthday in all forms, I wonder if I can remind you that ‘power is made perfect in service’.
Have fun and God bless you. Yours sincerely,
Rev. Dr. Frank Okai-Sam Methodist Minister for Adwick-leStreet, Auckley, Bawtry, Harworth, Rossington, Sprotbrough, Sprotbrough Road, and Tickhill. Tel. 01302857952 E-mail: frank.okai-sam@methodist.org.uk
Jesus is a role model to the monarch because he came to serve people. For example, Jesus on the night before he died, washed his disciples feet and John’s gospel describes what followed afterwards: :KHQ KH KDG Č´ QLVKHG ZDVKLQJ WKHLU IHHW KH put on his clothes and returned to his place. ‘Do you understand what I have done for you?’ he asked them. ‘You call me “Teacherâ€? and “Lordâ€?, and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet,
