“Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise ― Victor Hugo, Les Miserables

The year is racing by, Halloween and BonďŹ re Night are upon us and Christmas is only just around the corner. Once again, we have lots of activities and events being promoted on these pages – we are lucky to live in such active communities. By the time you receive this issue the chances are the clocks will have gone back and the evenings will be drawing in. If you receive an early magazine delivery—don’t forget to change your clocks early on Sunday 28th October. Are you getting organised yet? Last month I urged you to consider anything you wanted to get done or achieve before Christmas and to get yourself booked in with the many businesses oering their services within these pages. For many things there will still be time, but don’t wait too long! The December issues will be delivered to you late November. If you would like to have something included in this, please make sure details are with me by Friday 9th November. This will be of course the Christmas issue, and it is always a jam-packed issue, full of annual events, Christmas fairs and celebrations. Please do ensure that you get your items to me in good time if you have something you would like included.

Traditional Chinese Medicine A Natural Way for Your Health What is Traditional Chinese Medicine? Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is complete medicine system that has been used to help diagnose, treat and prevent illnesses for more than 5,000 years. TCM is based on regulating the balance of yin and yang, harmonious with the earth and universe, with emphasis on self-body regulations. What is different between TCM and Western medicine? The difference between Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine is that TCM uses natural therapies including; acupuncture, massage, moxibustion, cupping therapy, and herbal remedies, while Western medicine uses prescription drugs and is more reactive, mainly because of the fundamental difference in the guiding ideology of medical theory, so that the treatment result is different. A true story: Lucy suffers from knee arthritis and obesity. She was told she need knee replacement, but she has to lose weight before surgery, or she would be left in a wheelchair. Lucy was frustrated because she couldn’t do any exercise to lose weight, with a pair of painful legs and she did not want to sit in a wheelchair for rest of her life, not to mention that her parents in their 90s are in need of her care. Through seeking solutions to her dilemma, she met a TCM doctor, who diagnosed that the cause of her arthritis was deficiency of energy of kidney and spleen, causing water and metabolites to accumulate in deep fascial and between muscle and tendons and connecting tissue around the joints. There was also blocked blood circulation, therefore inflammation formed easily. In fact, the symptom of joint 16 BAWTRY TODAY

pain and swelling were due to the spleen weaker kidney function, subsequently resulting in fatigue, insomnia, bloating, irregular bowel symptoms and so on. Lucy realised that the all of symptoms she had were previously being considered and treated separately, while in TCM she was treated as a whole and holistically. Lucy start her natural healthy journey with her TCM doctor. Immediately she noticed a reduction in pain, while her doctor worked to expel pathogenic cold and dampness deep inside of her body, strengthen spleen and kidney yang energy. She gradually started to feel better each day and with constant improvements, eventually her pain completely subsided. And the best surprise of all? She lost the weight! She went from a size 26 to a size 20, with the weight still dropping. The irony is that despite reaching the goal weight for knee replacement surgery, she now longer feels she needs it as she is free of pain and her flexibility has dramatically improved. Now, she can do her exercise, carry on her normal work, look after her parents and grandchildren and has a new lease of life. Lucy said that, “if I didn’t meet this good Chinese doctor, I would now be likely in a wheelchair and with a loss of mobility, with no use to my parents whatsoever. Thank God for letting me meet my Chinese medicine practitioner. She is my angel.” Suiyun Edwina Huang Harworth Acupuncture Practice TO ADVERTISE CALL 01302 969696

Hi Everyone, I can’t believe I am writing this for the November issue.

Where did the year go? Luckily the weather has been kind to us so far however it is just the beginning of Autumn so maybe we need to get the thermals out just in case!! As we are looking towards winter we find ourselves in desperate need not only for funds (the winter electric bills are huge but we have to keep our dogs and cats warm) but for blankets and towels. I must thank people that come along and add to the usual pile in my garage it is very good of you all to take the time to do this. It is very much appreciated. It is acceptable to either take direct to the Sanctuary or keep dropping into my garage. (I will apologise in advance for a messy space). It will soon be time for our Doncaster Street collections these usually happen in December. The first one is on is the 1st Dec and the next one is the 22nd Dec We have lots of people come to us with various stories about their beloved pets which is always super to hear, lots of you make such a difference to so many animals lives which can only be a good thing. Please come along and say hello. One of our volunteers will be doing a Christmas event in Bawtry on their Christmas light switch on evening, this is an exciting new event that is not to be missed. So, take your doggies along and you will be pleasantly surprised. If you are looking for Christmas presents for your pets please come along to the Sanctuary where we have a lovely shop selling everything you could want to spoil your pampered pets. I have seen some cyclists recently running their pets with them whilst they have been cycling, some of the dogs have been small dogs with short legs not equipped for running at the side of a cycle, this is not only upsetting for an animal lover to see but actually against the law. If you care about your pet why would you want to do this. They can hardly tell you they don’t like it. What would it take for you to actually stop this practice, maybe your poor dog having a heart attack? Who knows! The Sanctuary have some beautiful small dogs in at the moment which are in high demand, if you are looking for that special pet please pop to see us, take a look around, chat to the kennel assistants, they have a great knowledge of the dogs in their care and they will point you in the right direction. We will look forward to seeing you soon. Best Wishes

Truffle Female 3 Years Oct 2018 ? No Yes

Truffle has been living at a stable yard for the last couple of weeks and had made herself quite at home . How she got there nobody knows as she just appeared one morning but she was very friendly and obviously somebodys cat. Exhaustive attempts to find her owners failed and it appears that she had been abandoned there. Unfortunately she couldn’t stay as there was serious conflict with the existing stable-cat so Mayflower agreed to help her find her new home. Sadly her story has a twist – Truffle had milk and was obviously nursing kittens somewhere. The search was on and thankfully, after many hours searching the buildings, the kittens were found. Mum and babies were reunited but it still wasn’t a happy ending as Truffle rejected them. Her 5 babies are now being handreared and doing well. Truffle definitely needs to be an only cat in her new home. She hasn’t met dogs but probably wont like them either. She has had previous experience of exploring the outdoors so a nice secure garden will be top of her wishlist.

Lola Female 7 Years Jun 2018 ? Jeff Yes

Lola was rehomed with Jeff from Mayflower as youngsters. They have spent several years in their happy home but unfortunately, due to personal circumstances, their owner has very reluctantly had to return them into our care. Lola is by far the more confident of the pair. She has found it hard to readjust and sometimes takes out her frustration on Jeff but he just keeps out of her way when she is ‘in one of her moods’ Generally they are best buddies and are often seen curled up together in one basket. A home together would be purrrfect for this stunning pair as they have been together for quite a while, but its not essential should the right home come along separately. Lola wouldn’t have problem being rehomed as an only cat - that way she can have ALL the attention. Could you offer Lola the fresh start she’s deserves ? We hope so.

Leaf matter: Leaves matter Oh, those autumn leaves. So pretty on the trees but they can be rather inconvenient in the garden. If they drift too deep on the lawn the grass underneath will die so there’s nothing to do but rake them up. However, these fallen leaves are a little autumn gift from nature and with them you can create leaf mould. Leaf mould is free garden nourishment, and it’s like feeding your VRLO ZLWK WKH ¿ QHVW ¿ OOHW VWHDN /HDI PRXOG is what’s left when the dead, fallen leaves from deciduous trees and shrubs are heaped up and allowed to rot down. As they slowly decompose, only the toughest bits remain, eventually forming crumbly, dark brown crumbs, a bit like chocolate sprinkles. Leaf mould is easy to make, a delight to handle, and you can’t possibly overfeed your soil with it. I adhere to a policy of only collecting leaves where necessary. Where they have fallen and are not obscuring the grass I leave them for the earthworms to pull into their burrows (I wrote last month about how I think of earthworms as my friends and so do nothing to discourage them).

Simply sweeping leaves off paths and decking or patios will keep the garden looking cared for. I also remove any that have drifted around my herb garden because herbs like to be able to breathe. These tasks alone give me enough leaves to create plenty of lovely leaf mould. If you have enough room, create a separate leaf heap rather than simply adding leaves to compost. It’s quite simple to construct a leaf cage using chicken wire and posts. You can even bag your leaves in punctured black bin bags and put them in an out-of-the-way corner. The puncturing is necessary to allow air to circulate. A leaf heap made this autumn will be ready by next autumn. While you’re tidying up the leaves it can be tempting to cut down faded perennials. But if \RX OHDYH WKHP LQ D PRQWK RU VR \RX ZLOO ¿ QG they have turned into wonderful sculptural winter skeletons which look incredibly beautiful in the frosts. Update from Councillors

Rachael Blake and Mick Cooper

Your DMBC Councillors Next Litter pick – 10am 3rd November meeting at the layby on Tickhill Road (Just past the Green Park estate Thank you to the small group of volunteers who came to litter pick on 13 October. We had delayed it for a week because of the rain but we covered a new area to make sure that we cover all areas of the town. We covered Spring Gardens and Station Road and one group went the back path to Kingswood Close and another through Spring Gardens. We picked the whole of Kingswood Close and got lots of rubbish out of the hedges and around the play area – we then went onto South, North and East and finished off on Doncaster Road at the nursery. We collected 10 bags of rubbish – so we had a good session. With the winter weather upon us, we are going to continue with the 1st Saturday of every month, but if it is raining we will meet on the 1st Sunday of the month and if it still isn’t good the following Saturday. We will always post something on the Bawtry Residents Facebook page. Doncaster Citizens Advice Talk Money Week is taking place from 12-18 November and it is an opportunity for them to promote the support that they offer to people who have debt and/or money management problems. Throughout the year they provide a service on a range of problems that citizens face, not just debt or money worries, to thousands of residents and now offer webchat and email advice if you are unable to get to their office in Doncaster. The details can be found at www. citizensadvice.org.uk Yellow Lines on Top Street A resident contacted me to complain that he had not been consulted about the extension of the yellow lines outside McCarthy and Stone. I was surprised when I had a walk to look at them as to have yellow lines requires a traffic regulation order which takes about 6 months to progress and involves extensive consultation with residents. DMBC Highways went to have a look and informed me that the developer had extended the yellow lines too far and they would be asking them to remove them.

Local Plan Consultation – consultation closes on Friday 26 October I mentioned this last time but it is important that all affected residents respond to this – 2 sites are earmarked for development in Bawtry – one next to Green Park and one between North and Harewood. Doncaster Council is preparing a new Local Plan to shape how Doncaster develops until 2032. The plan will influence the location and quantity of new development across the borough. A significant amount of work has recently taken place and much progress has been made since the last consultation on the homes and settlements work in 2016. DMBC are now informally consulting on the Draft Policies and Proposed Sites which will form the core of the Local Plan and are essential for considering planning applications and decision making. All the consultation documents and additional information, including earlier consultations, will be available from Thursday 13th September 2018 via the following: http:// www.doncaster.gov.uk/localplan. Getting in Touch Rachael will be at the coffee morning in Bawtry Community Library on Friday October 12th from 10am. Do call in for a chat about any concerns and improvements and complaints that you have about Doncaster Council services. Please get in touch with us if we can assist with any way. Rachael Tel: 07976896563 Email: Rachael.blake@doncaster.gov.uk Mick Tel: 07758089737 Email: mick.cooper@doncaster.gov.uk Thank you for reading this and for your continued support. Kindest regards

Lots of positive feedback has already been received through our Facebook page from residents and the wider community. The Parish Council hope to see residents making full use of the equipment. Annual Village Show The village show was held at Austerfield Study Centre on Sunday the 2nd of September, whilst we saw a good turnout of residents the number of entries received has reduced year on year. The Parish Council will be holding another show next year and the Parish Council would like to hear ideas from residents of how to develop and improve the show. Christmas Events Once again there are plans to hold a Christmas light switch on in the village and a Christmas lunch for the senior residents, the dates have not yet been confirmed but all residents will receive a leaflet in November so please keep a look out for this. If you do not receive an invitation to the Christmas lunch but are eligible, please contact the Clerk on 01302 714930 or austerfieldparish@ btinternet.com. 60 BAWTRY TODAY

Telephone Box Plans are underway to transform the telephone box into an information/heritage centre. The Parish Council are obtaining quotes to re-glaze the unit and to install information boards to promote the heritage of the village. If you have any old photographs of the village please contact a member of the Council. Memorial Garden The renovation of the memorial garden is slowly progressing. The Parish Council have installed a gate to stop off road vehicles accessing the land and have also purchased two benches which will be in place once the garden has been landscaped. The garden is on the corner of Highfield Lane (opposite the water treatment site). Hopefully by next spring the garden will be ready for the public to enjoy. Parking on Pavements

advised that the concerns needs to be raised by residents for this to take place. The telephone number to call is: 0800 80 70 60. Parish Council Website Please remember to check the Parish Council website; the address is www.austerfieldpc. co.uk. The website is updated regularly and contains information about the meetings; planning applications and events. If you would like anything adding to the website then please contact the Clerk. Facebook Page The Parish Council Facebook page is gaining followers; please remember to share any news or events with your friends.

Vehicles parking on the pavement continues to be an issue within the village. Before parking vehicles, please consider pedestrians, especially those using pushchairs and mobility scooters as poor parking causes them to divert onto the road.
