Welcome to the
February 2019 edition
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” Leo Buscaglia As we enter February – the month of love, perhaps we should remember that love has many forms. In the quote above, Leo Buscaglia speaks of many ways of showing that you care, and that as a society we care about all of those around us. Random acts of kindness, however small, have the power to at the very least put a small smile on someone’s face. So even if you don’t have a special someone in February perhaps you could have a go at extending some love. As always, we welcome some new advertisers this month as well as lots of long-standing ones who continue to advertise within our pages as a great way of getting customers. If you contact any this month don’t forget to tell them where you found them. The March issue will be delivered to you late February. If you would like to have something included in this, please make sure details are with me by Friday 8th February. We will be celebrating our 14th Birthday in March. It is hard to believe that so many years have passed since the first ‘Today’ magazine was (nervously) produced. Enjoy February and I will be back in a months’ time with your March magazine.
Best wishes,

After the Christmas break (although for some swimmers, the break was less than for others!), we have got back into the swing of things apace, with a busy start to the year. As 2018 drew to a close with an intensive schedule of galas, our swimmers achieved a huge haul of PBs and medals, and County qualifying times. We therefore have 9 swimmers achieving County qualifying times (up from 3 swimmers last year) which is a tremendous achievement from a Club which has only been going for not much longer than 3 years. These swimmers are now undergoing intensive training to prepare them for the Nottinghamshire County Championships in a couple of weeks’ time (although by the time you read this – they will have already competed!). So we wish Dominic, Josh, Seb, Jake, Liam, Ella, Abigail, Ellie Mae and Emily the very best in that competition. Sixteen of our younger swimmers have already FRPSHWHG LQ WKHLU ȴ UVW IULHQGO\ JDOD RI WKH \HDU hosted by Retford Swimming Club – well done to Stansie, Charlie, Aimee, Molly, Florence, Laila, Harry, Jasper, Max, Niamh, Holly, Samuel, Evelyn, Lance, Sky and Eva for some great racing, and a great start to 2019. In our Club, Club we like to ensure that our swimmers also develop poolside skills and so once a swimmer reaches 13, they get the opportunity to train as an Aquatic Helper which means they get the chance to assist the Coaches, poolside. We have recently trained a further 9 Aquatic Helpers (some of whom are pictured) to add to our team, so a big thank you to Briony, Jake, Tyler, Leon, Liam, Seb, Emily, Holly and Max. 2019 will be a busy year. We have a packed calendar of events coming up – the Nottinghamshire Championships, some new galas to try out as well as our favourite venues, and our own annual 3rd Club Championships. :H DUH FRQȴ GHQW WKDW ZLOO EH HYHQ PRUH successful than 2018 and we wish our swimmers every success in their quest to furthering their skills and their achievements and having fun with their team-mates whilst hopefully continuing to gather PBs, medals and – looking ahead - County qualifying times for 2020. Harworth Colliery Football Club February Update! Thanks to the weather being kind to us its been a busy time over the Festive Period and January for all of our sides including the Juniors whos second half of the season is now fully under way. At the time of writing the 1st team remains second bottom and 3 points away from survival, the results of late have improved as have the performances barring a poor showing at home to Nostell MW. The attendances have still been great to which I want to thank you all. We are averaging 108, 8th overall in the League, but I feel we have the potential in the coming months to increase that and would love to see a great crowd, please try and make it up if you can, the support does make a difference and we need all the help we can get at present. Our only home game in February is the 23rd against bottom side Bolsolver, the next 4-5 games are all against teams around us so is an absolutley crucial time for us, what will be will be but we will give it our best shot, that’s for sure. December player of the month went to Sean Ebbs pictured with Committee member Matthew Healey and Andrew Bevan of Jones and Solicitors our proud ground sponsors who also sponsor the monthly award.
Also pictured is David Challinor and son Kevin who was guest of honour for the win against Selby Town at the end of December for his help towards the Floodlights and local Lad Rob Gallagher who sponsored the Nostell game, thanks as ever for your support everyone. The reserves have had a stop start time with few games being played but they was delighted to be presented with the Central Midlands Respect award

on December 22nd, well done to Ben, Mark Brogan, Wibb and Lath for helping to guide the reserves after a rocky start with the change in management, we will be hoping for a good second half to the season as we are in all three cups entered so plenty to play for. Our U18’s and 21’s have also had quiet periods but games will start ramping up again and we wish them all the very best. Our Ladies are going from strength at the minute and sit second in the league and through to a semi final already. It was a difficult start for Mark, Elaine and the management due to a number of players moving on but they have re-grouped and sitting second in the top division proves the good work done but need to follow this up now. We wish all our Juniors well with their spring leagues starting up after a good break over Xmas. Would be great to see more of our junior players getting up to senior games when they can, it’s essential that the club continues to grow and the feeling of community grows with it, we want to develop our own and want them to see what they can look forward to in years to come. I will finish by saying that following the sad news of Club President Pete Lawrence passing away a few months back the committee spoke about appointing the next and we all decided that there could be none better than lifetime supporter Lance Armstrong. He is at every game whether that first/second or ladies and is a great ambassador for the Club. He is pictured with good friend and fellow Colliery Supporter Arthur, we are sure you will do a great job for the Club Lance. All the upto date news can be found on the clubs Website on Pitch Hero, enter Harworth Colliery FC, also by following us on Twitter @HCIFC or on our Facebook page VIVA COLLIERY

Take time to Re-energise & Evaluate
Back when I was 18 (way back!) I worked as an apprentice at a local manufacturing company. It was my first real taste of employment and what I found most interesting was the many different types of people working there. One man in particular stood out with his unusual habit. He’d work 11 months straight, from January to November and then use up his entire year’s holiday allowance to take the whole of December off. Now the last week or two in November he’d bounce around the yard, smile on his face and a spring in his step. But… The other fifty weeks of the year he was utterly miserable!
missing his annual big break and struggled on. His lack of energy and negative demeanour meant he was overlooked for any and all promotion opportunities, every year was a battle and he couldn’t muster the enthusiasm to reach any real goals in his life. My question to you is what do you have in your diary to look forward to? I recommend at least once every 12 weeks have something substantial that allows you to re-energise, evaluate the last 3 months and look forward to something you want to achieve in the next 3 months. My Wife, daughter and I love to travel, so every 3 months we have a holiday scheduled in.
No break to look forward to and growing more and more tired due to a lack of any breaks or real rest as the year dragged on.
Now of course before building a business we couldn’t afford to do this and your date in the diary doesn’t have to be something expensive.
We all suggested he split up his year like the rest of us but he couldn’t bear the thought of
My first ever goal was to not work a weekend and instead go for a family walk.
10
Scheduling a get together with friends you wished you spent more time with and having a fantastic catch-up… Seeing a music artist that you love live… Have a think and schedule something in right now. You’ll be amazed how much more you can accomplish when you have a sprint and rest mentality as opposed to a long drawn out struggle. Never too far away from a great experience and always something on the horizon to hit the right spot. Give it a try! Catch up next time. To Your Success!

Kilnsey Crag • Connections Exhibition Recent changes in fire regulations have meant that at Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery there is now limited use of the first floor galleries unless adaptations are put in place which will cost 10s of thousands of pounds. The museum is taking a practical approach by converting the spaces concerned into safe and useful areas in advance of decanting to the new build just at the top of the street. However, life drawing is no longer running and the popular Art History lectures have moved to The Little Theatre. Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery Open Wed to Sunday. Exhibition: until 7 April ‘CONNECTIONS’. An exhibition drawn from the collection of Heritage Doncaster finding fascinating connections between a diverse range of artworks. What connects a portrait of ‘Mundig’, the winner of the 1835 St Leger, a dog called ‘Rover’, and a collection of Wedgewood pottery? ‘Connections’ takes as its starting point the first work to enter the art collection at Doncaster, Sir Frank Lockwood’s ‘A Moment of Triumph’, and through a series of links, some obvious, some surprising, and some downright stupid, (their word not mine) makes connections between around 70 artworks, eventually coming full circle back to the beginning. The exhibition celebrates the random nature of the art collection at Doncaster Museum, which has grown over the years through a mixture of purchases, donations and bequests, and now numbers around 2,000 artworks. Art History Lecture: by Rachel HollandHargreaves, now at the Doncaster’s Little Theatre, King Street (off East Laith Gate). I wonder if these

gifts can replace the glass I’ve mentioned already. It takes a lifetime and a lot of energy to hold a glass in your hand to make sure that you do not smash it. Yes, the gifts may be part of the process of holding the glass tightly. However, there are more to life in a relationship than gifts. I wonder if I can ask you a question: what is the glass in your hand that you’re trying to lose its hold of? Have you thought of the consequences of letting that relationship go? This month, I wonder if you can take time to consider the glass in your life and resolve to hold it more tightly than before. By the way, I’m not suggesting that you become abusive or a bully in your grip. Love is the basis of that grip not abuse please. Have a blessed month. Yours sincerely,

Tickhill & District Lions Huge thank you for all your support during 2018
The Santa Float We are never too old for Santa. He brings a smile to all our faces, young and the ‘not so young’. This year he, his volunteer drivers and collectors had to endure possibly the worst rain storm (Saturday 15th) that any of us can remember. Yet credit to them and to you for your support throughout the Christmas period and especially that horrid night. A huge thank you also to Chris Gravill of Marshalls Volkswagen, Scunthorpe for the loan of the vehicle and to Ian Laycock of ProAktive Ltd for helping with the risk insurance. Now our thoughts turn to 2019. We look forward to supporting people and community groups across Bawtry, Bircotes, Harworth, Loversall, Rossington, Tickhill and Wadworth.
If you would like to get involved or if you think we may be able to help you or a community project please get in touch.
Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice During the Christmas period, a ‘pride’ of Lions visited Bluebell Wood with Santa to present a cheque on your behalf. I have to say how proud we were to be able to KHOS DQG KRZ KXPEOLQJ WKH H[SHULHQFH 7KH VWD DQG volunteers do a wonderful job creating special moments for families facing the toughest of times. The visit by 6DQWD ZDV DSSUHFLDWHG E\ VWD DQG IDPLOLHV DOLNH We sought the support of other Lions clubs in South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire and that has enabled us to apply to Lions Club International (our parent organisation) to match your donation. This means that we can certainly fund the renovation and refurbishment of one of the family rooms at Bluebell Wood, possibly two rooms if LCI is able to help.

IN THE GARDEN

STARTING YOUR SEEDS When the weather is colder and your hands are itching to get gardening again, starting your seeds indoors is the perfect way to combine comfortable potting with practical growing.
Starting your vegetable seeds indoors isn’t for those of us who are lazy or fair-weather gardeners. If you live in the Northern Hemisphere there are some crops which rely on being cared for indoors before they are subjected to the outdoors. Tomatoes, peppers, melons, lettuce, onions, peas, winter squash and cabbage are great options to get started off from seed. Choose your variety from a local garden centre and store in a cool, dry place (my grandad used to use an old biscuit tin for this) and accumulate some suitable containers for each seed. Egg boxes, yoghurt cartons, or any waxed cardboard can be turned into fabulous little receptacles for a seed. Just make sure that you pop a drainage hole into the bottom of each one. You may already have seed trays which are ready made for the purpose but you need to make sure you have somewhere to put them RIWHQWLPHV KRPH PDGH YHUVLRQV DUH VPDOOHU DQG FDQ ¿ W in little corners or windowsills a little better. When you’ve chosen the best container for your seeds, cover a table in some newspaper to catch any mess, DQG ¿ OO HDFK OLWWOH KROH ZLWK D VHHG VWDUWLQJ PL[ 7KHVH DUH ¿ QH JUDLQHG DQG VKRXOGQœW EH SDFNHG KDUG LQWR the container because the seedling needs to be able WR SXVK WKURXJK LW ZLWKRXW GLI¿ FXOW\ 7KH VRLO EDJV FDQ be purchased from most garden centres but keep an H\H RXW IRU WKH RQHV ZKLFK DUH GHVLJQHG VSHFL¿ FDOO\ for seeds rather than general potting. A tablespoon JHQHUDOO\ ZRUNV TXLWH ZHOO WR ¿ OO XS WKH FRQWDLQHUV ZLWK the soil and with a cup of tea this can normally provide for quite a gentle afternoons activity. 2QFH \RXœYH ¿ OOHG WKH FRQWDLQHUV ZLWK WKH VRLO RI FKRLFH you’ll want to add the seeds. Check the instructions on the packet but generally you’ll be putting one seed into each egg-sized container. Cover the containers with plastic (for ready-made seed WUD\V \RXœOO JHQHUDOO\ ¿ QG WKHVH FRPH ZLWK OLGV DQG WKHQ ¿ QG D ZDUP VSRW WR DOORZ WKH VHHGV WR JHUPLQDWH 7KH soil itself needs to reach the right temperature before most seeds will start to germinate so bear this in mind if you drop the heat in your house during the night over colder spells. You may need to use an airing cupboard with a water tank which tend to retain the heat a little better than a windowsill during the night time. Another good option is the top of a refrigerator. Keep an eye on the seeds and once they have

sprouted, remove the plastic to allow the air to start circulating. If you don’t remove the lid you may risk moisture building up around the seedling and cause damping-off. If your seeds are not on a windowsill you’ll need to transfer them to a place where they can get a lot of natural light for as long as possible during the day. This will help the plants grow to their optimum size - tomatoes have a tendency to go leggy if they are planted too early or don’t get enough light. Now if you got rather enthused and have more containers than you know what to do with, make sure you rotate the containers in the space you have available so that they each get as much light as SRVVLEOH $ À XRUHVFHQW OLJKW FDQ DOVR KHOS LI WKH\ DUH positioned about 4 inches above the seedlings. You’ll need to be able to adjust the height of the lights as the seedlings grow. In order to water the seedlings and keep the soil moist, a spray bottle is perfect so that you don’t overdo the watering or damage the delicate plants. Sit the containers on layers of newspaper to catch any drips. You can control the speed of growth with the use of fertiliser - either increase the quantity if you want to speed up the growth (for example, if the warm weather has come in earlier than expected) or simply decrease it to slow the growth down. Keep an eye on the size of the seedlings so that they don’t crowd each other. You can either gently lift a seedling out of its pot with a little spoon, and move it to another planting hole, or simply snip off the weaker plant to give more growing space to the others. Once you’re happy that the seedlings are ready to plant outside, you need to prepare them for the move by giving them a taster of the weather for an hour a day IRU D FRXSOH RI ZHHNV EHIRUH WKH RI¿ FLDO SODQWLQJ -XVW make sure to leave them in a sheltered spot otherwise your hard work may go to waste if you miss a sudden downpour or storm! 7KHUHœV QRWKLQJ PRUH ORYHO\ WKDQ VHHLQJ WKH ¿ UVW VKRZ of life poking its way out of the soil and knowing that you’ve played a part in nature. As well as that, in a few months you’ll be enjoying the fruits of your labour when the little seedlings turn into full blown plants ready for harvesting.

And just as so many of his characters went on their own journey, so did CS Lewis go on his own adventure. He travelled from atheism to a personal Christian faith which saw him through some extremely painful experiences and, ultimately, inspired those fantastic books which, I really think, will last for all time. CS Lewis also realised something that many of us know but rarely actually say – stories matter. Stories can contain more than just a version of history; they speak of what matters to us the most, of what we are most afraid and who – if we had the choice – would win, and who would lose. In short, we use stories to remind us of what is best and worst in human society. I wonder what stories you have heard during your life so far. Harworth & Bircotes Town Council - FEBRUARY 2019 Keeping you aware of developments in our Town is of primary importance; I will continue to keep you updated via this magazine, and you can access the Council website and the Council Facebook page. Any queries: contact me or other councillors, we will, as always, try to help REACHING OUT TO THE COMMUNITY WELCOME TO 2019 – A NEW YEAR, AND NEW CHALLENGES As we move into a new year, Harworth and Bircotes Town Council will carry forward a number of initiatives and priorities from 2018, as well as dealing with new, emerging challenges. A Recent Meeting with 5HVHDUFKHUV IURP 6KHÉ? HOG University proved very interesting, their remit was ‘the impact of Neighbourhood Plans on Public Health`. They were intrigued by the ‘green wheel` concept in the N. Plan for Harworth and Bircotes, where larger developments are required to create pedestrian and cycling routes on the periphery of new housing sites – activity is very much a public health issue, as is better housing, growth of
26
employment, improvement to existing environment and creation of new green spaces, play facilities, leisure, and the infrastructure issues such as roads and road safety – all highlighted as objectives in our Neighbourhood Plan. They looked at our prepared improvement plan for Scrooby Road, and discussed with us our plans for developing the Town Centre. What surprised them were the aspirations we had for the future, such as bringing the North Notts. Border School eventually back into the community – these aspirations are future ideas that have evolved because of the original Neighbourhood Plan, plus comments from local people. They were impressed by the ‘community support for development` when compared to some other areas. I explained that, after losing 3 major employers in one decade, people from Harworth and Bircotes recognise this is about development AND also regeneration of their Town. A Measure of Progress: Some years ago, sitting in the public section of the District Planning Committee meeting, I heard a Worksop councillor describe Harworth and Bircotes as ‘a one-horse town` - well, he’s not saying that now! Consultation on the Draft Local Plan. Bassetlaw District Council has launched a district wide consultation period as part of the next stage (Part 1) of its Draft Local Plan, which sets out Bassetlaw Council’s priorities for housing, regeneration and other developments, such as employment, up to year 2035.
7KH ȴ UVW ZHHN FRQVXOWDWLRQ started 14th January, it will visit 18 rural areas, plus Retford, Worksop, and Harworth and Bircotes – dates to be arranged. A further consultation on the second part of the Plan will begin in July 2019. Why is it important? Because the District Council wants to have conversations with local people, businesses and communities about how to achieve Government housing requirements in a way that is good for Bassetlaw residents, both now, and in the future. It is also a unique opportunity for you to have your say. (Further details about the Draft Local Plan can be seen on Bassetlaw District Council website) News on the Planning Front. In January, there was a Planning Committee meeting at Bassetlaw District Council, which I and other local residents attended. On the agenda were two planning applications for Harworth and Bircotes: App. 17/01728/OUT: Land south of Tickhill Road. Refused App. 18/00903/OUT: Land to rear of Grange Farm, west of Blyth Road. Refused UPDATE Looking – and Thinking - Outside the Box: I recently spent a morning looking at an attractive development in another part of Nottinghamshire; I was particularly interested in this site because on it were not just new houses but bungalows. 7KHLU KLJK VSHFLȴ FDWLRQ ZDV obvious, and I was struck by the modern designs that

The District Council is inviting interested community groups, schools and parish councils to participate, will provide them with the necessary equipment, and remove any waste collected – group photographs will also be welcome. Any local ‘Spring Clean` can be registered online at: www. bassetlaw.gov.uk/rubbish-andrecycling/community-litterpicks, or email Janette.Walker@bassetlaw.gov. uk to learn more. A Big ‘Thank You` to those local residents who I see regularly picking up rubbish in the vicinity of their homes, along with Councillor Roz Jones who picks up litter when she’s out walking the dog. If you need any assistance, such as
collecting waste from your house, please let the Town Clerk know. Some Local Good News. New Planters. Harworth and Bircotes Town Council has been awarded ÂŁ9,975 by the National Lottery ‘Awards for All` Fund. The money is to be used to install planters along the section of Scrooby Road in Bircotes, and on Beech Road. The new smart planters will replace the current wooden planters which are now past their sell-by date. New Equipment on Snipe Park Play Area. Installation of two digital pieces of interactive equipment is imminent– the Č´ UVW RI WKLV W\SH LQ %DVVHWODZ Funding has come from the Notts. County Council ‘Local Improvement Scheme`, and Bassetlaw District Council. Thanks go to Sheila Place, County Councillor, for supporting this. Well done Karen Tarburton, our Community Development Worker, for both these successful funding bids. An Important First Step: Links Between Scrooby Road and Simpson Park. You know from recent comments I’ve made that I feel it’s important to plan, agree and then eventually deliver roads and footpaths connecting both areas as they develop in the future. Why? Because these links will: 1. Ensure that Simpson Park becomes a cohesive, not separate, extension of the Town, with appropriate interconnecting links. 2. Allow natural access from Simpson Park, as it grows, to the shops and other facilities on Scrooby Road, thereby
supporting local business and the local economy. For this reason, I met with Jones Homes to discuss a connecting path from their current housing development behind the Town Hall to the Civic Square. More good news - Jones Homes have agreed to help with clearing the proposed site (next to the recycling centre) of surplus material, ready for a pathway to their houses. For the rest of the day I kept singing ‘One step at a time, sweet Jesus` - which I think describes perfectly the journey we are on! Street Naming on the Bryndale Site: the street names will be Bryndale Close, Coniston Grove, and Thornbridge Mews. Will Nottinghamshire Become A Unitary Council? In December 2018, James Brokenshire M.P., Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, advised that consideration would be given to forming a Unitary Council, provided there is agreement from all District Councils involved. This is not the case in Nottinghamshire, some of the 7 Districts, including Bassetlaw, strongly object to the proposal. The Leader of Notts. County Council, Councillor Kay Cutts, issued a statement withdrawing the Outline Business Case for a Unitary from the December County Council meeting. We await further news on this matter.

Harworth & Bircotes Town Council - FEBRUARY 2019 To Make You Smile: Problem Solving. 7KH ȴ UVW DWWHPSW WR LQVWDOO the new interactive play equipment on Snipe Park failed, due to a number of reasons. On the due date, I popped up to Snipe Park, RQO\ WR ȴ QG D SHUSOH[HG VLWH manager facing a number of problems. 1. The area on which the new equipment was to be located could only be reached, on either side, by crossing a small bridge: would these bridges bear the weight of a 5-ton forklift truck carrying a 2-ton piece of equipment? Work wouldn’t begin until this was FRQȴ UPHG 2. The site manager had organised a skip for waste soil; unfortunately, local people thought it was a community VNLS DQG KDG VWDUWHG ȴ OOLQJ LW before work on the site had begun. The site manager, who had driven up from London at 5am, was not best pleased! 3. A huge lorry then rolled up with materials needed for the site – the problem was it was 1 day early, and the lorry driver was not taking it back! I suggested that the lorry could leave the material at the Town Hall, but arriving there another problem appeared – access into the car park was blocked by a cement mixer discharging its load - and beyond it, waiting to exit the car park was a District Council refuse lorry; the situation
was further complicated by cars trying to get in and out, squeezing past the refuse vehicle, cement mixer and the waiting lorry. Eventually, the WUDÉ? F VLWXDWLRQ ZDV UHVROYHG the lorry was able to unload and then depart, and we found a quiet spot in the Town Hall for the poor site manager, along with a soothing cup of tea. Sorted! Thank You to the ‘not so grim reaper` for your lovely, amusing letter concerning a mishap during the funeral of a loved one; you made my day!

COMMUNITY It is with the greatest sadness that we have to share this news with you. Sadly, we have lost little Alice who passed away on New Year’s Day. She collapsed and was rushed to the Vets where it was decided to allow her to sleep with dignity and no longer in pain. She knew she was safe and she knew that she was loved. Not only by her fosterers but also by the many people whose hearts she has touched since her rescue from that awful roadside. Alice was a fighter but this was one battle too many for her. Sleep tight little lady. So sorry that we were too late to save you. Thank you so much to everyone who gave so generously to help her. It’s reassuring to know that she was warm, fed and had appropriate veterinary care during her last 8 weeks. Your overwhelming generosity enabled us to be there for her when she needed help the most. We would like to create a legacy in her memory - Alice’s Legacy - in order that we can be there for the next poor dog that needs our help. The surplus monies donated for Alice will be kept in a fund for this purpose. Of course, anyone wishing for their donation to be returned, please call the office on 01302 711330 and we can arrange this. We hope that you will agree that it would be wonderful if we could rescue another little dog from danger in memory of Alice. We’re sure that Alice would want another dog to benefit from the forever home that she very nearly had. She was so close. Forever in our memories - Alice xx Moving on to a lighter note, we received over the Christmas period a super donation from the Hagan Group in Castleton of £1000 which will be well spent over the winter months. We struggle in the winter months the amount of extra care needed when the weather takes a turn for the worst is often more than people realise. We rely heavily on donations to help us cope with heating bills and veterinary bills this time of year comes with its own problems. Even most of us as we get older struggle in the cold and it is no different for our dogs, this is why nice warm blankets and radiators are so important. We have received so many fantastic donations of food over the New Year period we won’t need to buy food for the next 6 months, so that is a huge bonus. Big thank you to Kay from Tickhill for a lovely bag of super goodies, also to everyone that has left blankets and towels over the Christmas and New Year period. Your gifts and donations are so appreciated, thank you for your generosity. We have had to alter the date of our spectacular Mayflower Ball, it will now be on the 17th May NOT the 24thMay, we hope you are able to join us for this brilliant event at The Crown hotel Bawtry. photographers will be there to capture the moment. If you need to contact us please call 01302 711330
Best Wishes

My previous mum and dad decided that they could no longer live together, The house was sold My dad was starting a new job where he worked away tomorrow and couldn’t take me, Where was I to go ????? There was nowhere else except for Mayflower to do a shuffle round and help me. It was a tight squeeze and a ‘double-up’ for a couple of kitties but a pen was found for me. I wasn’t very happy about the situation that I was in and I’m afraid that I was a grumpy girl for a while but now I’ve settled in and realised that it’s not too bad. All I want is a new home, perhaps with a nice secure garden, as I’ve been used to going outside, and a family to love me again. Not much to ask for is it? In the meantime I’ll just sit here and wait Please don’t make me wait too long.

My owner is very ill and has had to go into hospital for a long time. Although she loved me very much she had no choice but to find me a new home and asked Mayflower for help. It was a sad day when we had to part and we both cried. I miss my home and my Mum very much but I’m starting to settle in here now. I have previously been mainly a housecat but my mum used to allow me into the garden so I could help her hang the washing or weed the plant pots. I always used to dash back in though as soon as she had finished. Therefore, I may like to explore a secure garden in my new home once I’m settled. All I want is my old life back but that’s not possible so I shall sit here and wait for a new family to come along who will love me just as much as my previous Mum did. Please don’t make me wait too long.
