The book of Hebrews in chapter 10 states, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. These connections sometimes lead to having hundreds to thousands of friends some of whom we hardly chat with. It is good to have friends but I wonder if we are not overstating friendship. Harworth Colliery Football Club JUNE Update! backing on and off the pitch. Everything goes up a notch but having your local team play at Step 6 football is what we set out to achieve 4 years ago and we have realised that ambition.

Welcome to the final update of the 2017-2018 Season and we have only gone and done it, our first team have finished as Central Midlands League North Champions, the last time the club achieved this was 30 years ago and it is slowly starting to dawn on us exactly what the club has done. We await confirmation off the FA that we will get promoted as it is an FA decision and that will put us back into the Northern Counties East, again the last time the club played at this level was nearly 35 years ago. As Chairman I am incredibly proud of what we have done, but more so how we have done it and that’s through hard work and sheer determination. We lost our manager in December when we were top and the club worked hard to recruit the right person and the players stayed loyal to us. Now they reap the rewards with their well earned winners medal, things havent been easy and somethings have gone against us, but similarly somethings have gone for us, but the things that have we have earnt it. Things like this don’t happen without a number of people working hard for the same goal and I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been there for us. Support from the Sports and Social Club, the sponsors, the supporters, the Committee and the volunteers on match days and of course the managers and Players. We finished the last game of the season with 5 Harworth lads on the Pitch and that’s huge for us all. We are a large part of this community I know that, and I know that people want to see young local lads playing and they are getting that chance and we will put plans in place to get more young players through the system. Next season if we are to be promoted will bring new challenges for us, and we will need further 14 HARWORTH TODAY

Fundraising as ever is vital to us and we will have a whole list of sponsorship oppurtunitues for local businesses for every budget. We also have a great night to look forward to on July the 14th when we host David Hirst and Mel Sterland along with Comedian Jed Stone at the Welfare Hall for the latest sportsmans evenings, if interested in sponsoring the night then please get in touch. It’s not all about the 1st team though, and at the time of writing a lot of our teams have still to finish their seasons, but the Juniors presentation took place on the 11th of May and what a night it was. The place was full and amazing to see how the club has grown and continues to grow, well done not just to all the winners but everyone throughout the season, the future is bright and the future is Orange.

Further sponsorship has come into the Juniors and pictured is our Under 11’s with Manager Paul Noble and asst Ian Hobson along with Juniors gaffer Adam King. Many thanks to ADS Windows, Doors and Conservatories, the lads and lasses look great in their newly sponsored Kit. So that’s it for this Season, many thanks for taking the time out to read it and also support the club, our last home game saw over 300 through the gate, we have been humbled by your support and lets hope the Orange Army continues to grow, onwards and Upwards. All the upto date news can be found on the clubs Website on Pitch Hero, enter Harworth Colliery FC, also by following us on Twitter @HCIFC or on our Facebook page Many thanks Jonathan Wilson Chairman @jonycw 07979958255 TO ADVERTISE CALL 01302 969696

There were discussions about the Čľ RRGLQJ RQ WKH IRRWSDWK EHWZHHQ the Wimpey estate and the Serlby Park Academy. This has been reported to the BDC Drainage Engineer. Apparently, quad, and bike riders are fracturing the underground pipes which were put in place to drain the water away, and this has resulted in Čľ RRGLQJ 4XDG ELNHV DQG PRWRU bikes should NOT be riding on these footpaths, and they were only intended for pedestrians.

County Councillor Sheila Place was in attendance. She talked about the complaints regarding the parking outside the school on Scrooby Road. We’ll set out via Styrrup, Stainton and Edlington to cross Conisbrough viaduct and join Route 62. Descending into the Don valley, we’ll head east along the riverside path through Sprotbrough to Cusworth Park for a lunch stop at the tea rooms. Our return route skirts between Balby and Warmsworth and past Wadworth to Tickhill, before re-entering Harworth. This undulating 35-mile ride is mainly on minor roads but with some unsurfaced trail sections, so will suit experienced cyclists with either a hybrid or mountain bike. Our following ride will be on Sunday 1 July, when we’ll be making our annual visit to Fledborough village for a barbecue lunch; see next month’s issue for more details. Then, through the summer, we hope to introduce some shorter, local rides especially for those new to or returning to cycling. These will provide an ideal way to enjoy a friendly leisure ride at a steady pace, supported by experienced Rangers. For more details, visit Bassetlaw Sustrans Rangers on Facebook, contact mail@ daveback.plus.com or ring Dave on 01777 704317. Sustrans is the charity making it easier for people to walk and cycle. It was great to see the swimmers and their families, and the Coaches and Club members all coming together for a social event, which was enjoyed by all. A great surprise for the entire Club was also received on the night in the form of ÂŁ500 funding from Bassetlaw District Council &RPPXQLW\ *UDQW ZKLFK ZDV announced to us that evening by our guests of honour, Councillors June Evans and Anita Smith. That was truly wonderful news and we look forward to putting these funds to good use. Thanks must also be extended to Tickhill & District Lions who

assisted with the logistics of the event, and thanks also to the team of volunteers who organised the event. We are also pleased to announce the appointment of 2 Assistant Head Coaches: Steve :DWNLQV DQG *X\ :LONLQVRQ ZKR will be assisting Head Coach Ericka Willis with developing swimmers’ potential in the areas of County Performance and Club Performance. The Club continues to go from strength to strength; with more swimmers achieving County and Regional times, more swimmers becoming very close to achieving County times, and with 2 galas and a Club time trials over the course of the next few weeks, there certainly is no time to stand still. POLICE WARN PUBLIC OVER RECENT ONLINE SCAMS :ONLINE MARKETPLACE FRAUD ADVICE FOR SELLERS Action Fraud has received several reports indicating that sellers of items on online marketplace websites are falling victim to fraud by bogus buyers. What is a Community Asset? Communities now have the right to ask the District Council to list certain assets ‘as being of value to the community`. If feasible, this could be followed by a community asset transfer, leading to a change in management/ownership of land or buildings, to communities. What happens next? It depends on the decision of the Planning Committee; if supportive, we will then have to wait for the outcome of discussions with WKH GLÎ?HUHQW H[SHUWV DQG organisations involved, to discover what they think about the future of the school.

Harworth & Bircotes Town Council - JUNE 2018 on 28th April, when we helped hand out swimming awards to children of all ages, including some quite tall teenagers summoned to stand on the podium and receive their award– I’m sure I never had any school mates that tall at 14 years old – so it was quite a stretch for myself and Anita, as we are only 5ft. 2in. The night proved to be a real family event, though I think it true to say that before the awards ceremony, the youngsters certainly enjoyed WKHPVHOYHV DQG OHW R΍ VWHDP Ζ needed ear plugs! On a serious note, Bircotes Swimming Club has been running for three years, during which time membership has built up to more than 70 youngsters, and in that time has made tremendous progress. The club has in place a pathway for swimmers to compete at county, regional and national level and already has youngsters racing at county and regional levels. The club is reliant on volunteers for coaching, training, the evernecessary admin. work, and for the committee membership – and what a good job they are all doing – and much of this support comes from local parents. Knowing they are trying to raise money for new equipment, this seemed a perfect opportunity for Anita and myself to help out with some much-needed funding; between us we were able to donate £500 from our District Councillor Community Grant to this very worthy cause. Who knows – we may produce an Olympic swimmer in the future!
