Welcome to the

“Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change.â€? Jim Rohn October again! Where do the months go? No sooner are the children back at school, then the countdown to Christmas begins! (sorry to mention Christmas). It has been a period of change in our household, ďŹ rstly as we modernise our home, getting rid of the 70’s/80’s ďŹ xtures and dĂŠcor and turning it slowly into a modern family home, with a lot of dust and mess along the way. Secondly, as we get used to a slightly quieter home after taking to our daughter to start at University last weekend. It is early days yet but it seems she is having a fantastic time! If like me you are planning to be organised this year and not have that busy last-minute rush then you might want to start looking through these pages and getting things booked in. Everyone from decorators through to dog groomers and from chimney sweeps through to curtain makers, get increasingly busy as the festive season gets nearer, some are already taking bookings for 2018! Whatever you want to get done before Christmas, be that lose weight, shop for gifts and supplies locally, get your accounts sorted or revamp your home or garden, or any of 1001 other things, you are sure to ďŹ nd someone to help you in this magazine. Don’t forget to tell people you found them here when contacting advertisers! The November issue will be delivered to you late October. If you would like to have something included in this, please make sure details are with me by Friday 13th October. Please remember that we are heading into the busy pre-Christmas season (sorry that word again!) so plan ahead and get the dates of your events and fundraisers to me in good time so I can ensure they are promoted for you. Enjoy October, and I will be back in a months’ time with your November magazine.

Best wishes,

community Community Hello from Mayflower Sanctuary, The weather at the moment is driving everyone to distraction, the poor dogs don’t know if they are coming or going. One minute they are laid in the sunshine the next they are being rained on. Well at least we are all still in one piece unlike the poor people and some animals in America. If you are looking for your forever dog or cat please take a look at some of our older residents or the ones that have been with us long term. They sometimes get overlooked because they don’t show themselves in the correct light and appear stressed. Our kennel carers work with any dog that has issues until they are ready to be re-homed. It is always worth coming to the Sanctuary and discussing your requirements with our carers as they all know the dogs in their care better than anyone. You would be surprised how many people come to see us with specific requirements and take a completely different dog home. We also have some beautiful cats, some that we would prefer to be kept indoors and others depending on your location that will be happy as outdoor cats. Penny our cattery Manager will be happy to discuss the cats in her care with you. The cattery has recently received funding from The Jean Sainsbury Trust to upgrade our cattery which we are very excited about. However, until we start to upgrade we will need to match fund so that will mean more bucket collecting and fund raising. The diary is full to overflowing with fund raising efforts on the run up to Christmas so we are hoping that our public will be supportive. Now some dates for your diary. Our next fundraising day with M&S Wheatley Hall Road will be Friday 13th Oct, I hope that will be a lucky day for us. The next outside M&S will be 28th October we will have

Finding a forever home some dogs with us so come along and say hello. We will also be holding Table Top sale in the Scout Headquarters in Tickhill on the 28th October. The tables are £12 each and I believe there are a couple or so left. If you would like to book a table please call Janice 07590455340. Unfortunately, we have had to alter dates for both the above table top sale and the Race night. The race night will now be on the Sat 25th November in the Scout Head Quarters starting at 7.30 for 8pm please call for tickets 07969 203206, 07590 455340 or 01302 711330. The price will be £6 and include pie and peas. Our Ladies night that was promised for Christmas will now be in January in time for Valentine’s day 2018. Apologies for the change in dates it has been out of our control. Please come along to see us if you are looking for that forever pet, we will be happy to chat to you about your pet requirements. Our telephone number should you need us is 01302 711330 Best Wishes and will look forward to seeing you soon

My original owner asked a friend to look after me while she went on holiday. But she didn’t come back !!!! When she was eventually contacted she said that she didn’t want me anymore. That’s hard for a guy like me to take in. Unfortunately it gets worse. The existing cat in the household was aggressive to me so it was impossible for me to stay there. I found it hard to settle here at first and hid away in my basket but its not so bad now. My carers say that I’m a treasure to have around. All I want is a home and a family to call my own. Could I come home with you ?

Harworth Colliery Football Club October 2017! Hello and welcome to the first Football Club monthly update of the new season and as ever its been an incredibly busy start with as in previous season new teams, new faces, new sponsors and lots to be positive about. The first team at the time of writing have won all 5 of their first 5 games and won the Central Midlands Team of the Month for August so couldn’t have started much better really. After a disapointing end to the season last term it was vital we got off to a good start and with new players coming into bolster what we already had, things do look on the up. Promotion as ever is the aim and all will be working to that end. Congratulations also goes to new and experienced signing in Lee Holmes who won the player of the month for August.

Andrew Fletcher and Crown Conservatories who has extended his support for a further two seasons. The 21’s again face some very tough teams in their league including two very prestigous ones in Hallam who boast the Worlds oldest ground and Sheffield FC the worlds oldest club as well as Sheffield Utd. They had a very encouraging pre season and will look to improve on last seasons performances, and with a group from last years U16’s and some new players coming in we have a very encouraging sqaud. The Ladies at the time of writing have only just got their campaign under way winning the first league and also won the first qualifying round game in the Ladies FA Cup V Dronfield 5-0. They did though lose in the second round against Wakefield Ladies who are two divisions higher but gave a very spirited display losing 4-3 and missing a Penalty late on. So good start from all our senior sides. The Juniors are also under way and the U16’s have had a change in management, we thank Dave Guy and Nigel Shaw for all their hard work over the past 5 years or so, but now welcome Connor Doherty and Shaun Temporal who take charge for the lads last year. We wish them all the best.

Many thanks also to Lifting Support Services for their continued support of the club and again their sponsorship The Reserves have also made a good start winning 4 of their first 6 games upto now. It’s vital though this season that the reserves get a lot of the good young players we have from the U21’s playing and used to senior football. The results side of things are not as important as the progression we are looking for. We have a large pool of players this season which we haven’t had in the past so the management of these players is paramount to what we will deem success for this group.

Our Under 21’s have got under way and we thank again the support of another Local Sponsor in 16 HARWORTH TODAY

We as a club have worked hard all summer to get Girls teams up and running and this year we have an Under 10’s for the for the first time in over a decade or so. The team is run by myself and I’m delighted with the response we have had and the numbers. Also Kirsty and Adam King have been running a development side in the U8’s girls and this time next year we may even have more. We are a club promoting Football for all and we are backing this up with the teams we have. We also start training for U7’s from Saturday 23rd September, so anybody who has children interested, check out the Facebook page or get in touch via the details below. We wish all the remaining Junior sides well and its great to see so many teams that we now proudly boast. Just three years ago that wasn’t the case so well done to all involved for growing the club. All the upto date news can be found on the clubs Website on Pitch Hero, enter Harworth Colliery FC, also by following us on Twitter @HCIFC or on our Facebook page, keep turning up through the gates as it is hugely appreciated by everyone associated with the club. Dear Friends,

Harworth & Bircotes

The next part of the Lord’s Prayer says,

“Forgive us our sins”. None of us can claim that we have not sinned before. Otherwise you will be on another planet. It is the way we deal with our sins that make us saints or villains. The bible tells us that even our righteousness is like a filthy rag before God. Hence, our sins are like a bag of rotting rubbish. They “smell bad” to God and keep us separated from Him. However, because God loves us, he has put our sins on Jesus, who never did anything wrong, so we could be put right with him. Romans 5: 8 states, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”. However, God is willing to forgive us our sins if we confess them to him. “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us”. These sins can be things we have done to hurt ourselves or others or to God. They don’t matter whether you see as big or small. You can call them by different names – mistake, out-of-order, slip, etc. I wonder if you can pray and allow God to show you any sins, confess to him and promise to turn away from them. As the Lord shows you your sins, write them on a piece of paper. When you have finished writing, ask the Lord to forgive you. Now rip the piece of paper into pieces and put it into the bin as you receive his forgiveness. You can then thank God for his love for you. It is important that you assure yourself that God has forgiven you. This will help to remove any stress or guilt from you. This month, I wonder if you can treat yourself by appropriating the forgiveness that God offers to you. It is free so grab it! Have a blessed month. Yours sincerely,

Rev Dr. Frank Okai-Sam (Methodist Minister - Adwick, Bawtry, Harworth, Sprotbrough & Tickhill) Tel.: E-mail:

In answer to this query if the land is private land then the onus is on the land owner to report this in the Č´ UVW LQVWDQFH DV D FRPSODLQW in relation to persons trespassing, where they will have to apply to county court for an injunction or eviction court order to be granted, it is not the responsibility of the Harworth and Bircotes Town council or the Police. The same process applies to if the

encampment is on council land where either Bassetlaw council or Notts County Council will have to apply to court for an injunction/court order through their legal team. When an injunction/court order has been granted the police usually attend to assist the relevant enforcement team who are issuing the court/injunction to ensure no breach of the peace. When the injunction/ court order has been served, the persons it has been served on have to leave within a reasonable time which is usually classed as 24 hours.

Harworth & Bircotes Town Council - OCTOBER 2017

Keeping you aware of developments in our Town is of primary importance; I will continue to keep you updated via this magazine and the Council website. We have seen new houses on Bawtry Road and Scrooby Road, other smaller sites on Scrooby Road will come forward, but the public focus is now on the colliery site, known as Simpson Park. Simpson Park: Remediation work is in progress, and Harworth (VWDWHV DUH KRSLQJ WKH Č´ UVW QHZ road (past ASDA) will appear next Spring. What kind of homes will be built? Harworth & Bircotes Town Council - OCTOBER 2017 who were quickly on the scene picking up the litter, helped by Roy Hutchinson who piled the collected rubbish into his trailer. A big tick for initiative and community spirit; thank you, folks, for being such good friends to Harworth and Bircotes. And Yet More. A community group from Harworth and Bircotes, including Cllr. John Durdy and his lovely wife Fiona, have organised several litter picks, including Snipe Park Wood. Well done folks; any help the Town Council can give, just let us know. We are all aware of the raised level of activity on the site, but for those living closest the noise generated by heavy machinery breaking concrete had become a problem. Council contacted Harworth Estates, who say that although normal working hours on the site are from 7am to 6pm, for the time being work will now start at 8am.

Common Lane: Airey Houses. A1 is now preparing to demolish the empty houses; work will start in earnest this month. Rumour: Bassetlaw D.C. have sold the site to a private developer. What tosh!
