Jason Robinson, the rugby player decided to be on hand for the stilt walking, plate spinning and juggling learning. It looks as though he needed more practice on spinning his plate! The giant kite was made at the Youth Centre and thank you to those who helped with making its tail. With these activities, sponsored by Expect Youth as part of the Summer Programme, we now move on to developing more pieces for the Parade. Our resident artist, Kate Sully, is working in the primary schools and with the Brownies and Scouts to create new items that will feature in the Parade next year. To add to these workshops, we have a day during half term for everyone to take part in: Tuesday, 30 October at Holmescarr in the Main Hall. Come along and make something with the team. As a group, we are developing a skill set to be able to be more active in making our own pieces for next year, and we are busy working on what else will be in the parade as musical support for the march from Holmescarr to the Welfare in May next year. Remember our theme is Up, Up and Away, VR \RX FDQ H[SHFW WR VHH ORWV RI Čľ \LQJ WKLQJV IURP small to large, and we will have stilt walkers to help with giant creatures.

MONEY RAISED FOR CHARITY

ÂŁ1,750 raised for 2 local Charities Anne, Ken, Debbie and Lynn are four friends based at Rossington Memorial Hall. On Saturday 8 September they put on a Bingo Fundraising event IRU WKH )LUHČľ \ &DQFHU &KDULW\ DQG IRU WKH +HOLSDG DW 6KHÉ? HOG &KLOGUHQȇV +RVSLWDO Cash donations of ÂŁ550 were received from Tanks & Vessels, Rossington Lidl, Mr Longley and a local businessman. AWS Landscapes donated a ÂŁ150 voucher that was won by Dan Attridge on the Stand Up Bingo - pictured. Dave Barron Bars set up the bar and donated a barrel of beer and lager. Rossington Smile ran the tombola, Lynn Docherty UDQ WKH UDÉž H &DURO :LOHPDQ DQG -RKQ 3DUNLQ VWDÎ? HG WKH EDU .HQ *XHVW LQ KLV XQLTXH ZD\ called the bingo. Michelle Kelleher and Victoria Ness along with partners Paul and Ian cooked and served the fantastic pie, peas and pudding plus they washed up. All these wonderful people and more supported the event as volunteers so ALL the money raised on the night ZLOO JR HTXDOO\ WR the 2 charities. The total raised was an astonishing ÂŁ1,750. Anne would like to say a HUGE thank you to all those mentioned above and to all those who came along and supported the event, making the event the success it was.

Security lighting should be checked to make sure it is in good working order and replace damaged bulbs where necessary. You might want to consider trimming hedges and bushes etc, particularly those near JURXQG Čľ RRU ZLQGRZV DQG GRRUV WR SUHYHQW WKHP IURP RÎ? HULQJ cover to the willing criminal. :K\ QRW FRQVLGHU Č´ WWLQJ ZLQGRZ ORFNV WR JURXQG Čľ RRU ZLQGRZV which is relatively cheap and can be done in the warmth and comfort of your home. As usual, don’t forget to remove valuables from your car and lock it. Put it on your drive if you have one and consider security to cover it. We recorded just one attempted and two actual residential burglaries in Rossington over the period. In the attempted crime, the rear door handle was GDPDJHG ZKHQ WKH RÎ? HQGHUV tried to gain entry to the house. ΖQ WKH WZR DFWXDO RÎ? HQFHV RQH was domestic related and the other saw items stolen when the RÎ? HQGHU HQWHUHG WKH SURSHUW\ via an insecure door. We also recorded one attempted and two actual commercial burglaries Furthermore, we saw three crimes where the RÎ? HQGHUV WULHG WR JHW LQWR FDUV and one crime where they were actually successful with items stolen. Two vehicles were also stolen over the month. In one case a hire vehicle was taken and a van taken in the other crime. In terms of anti social behaviour, we have seen a slight reduction in reported incidents, from 20 in July to 16 in August.

Doncaster District is again re-structuring slightly with the movement of some of our response bases. FHUV working from Doncaster Central Police Station, rather than Rossington. However, the East Neighbourhood Team will be

Inspired by the recent Tour of Britain and in a bid to enjoy the last of the summer light and warmth, many of us are enjoying being out on our bikes. We’re not really designed to ride bikes though‌which can lead to some issues‌ Amongst other things, neck pain can be a problem. Cycling involves getting into an unnatural spinal position leaning forwards LQWR Čľ H[LRQ ΖI ZH DOORZ RXU QHFN WR IROORZ this spinal shape we end up looking at WKH Čľ RRU 7R FRXQWHU WKLV ZH Čľ LS RXU KHDG DQG QHFN EDFN LQWR H[WHQVLRQ If there are some joints in the neck that are VWLÎ? WKHQ WKLV ZLOO EH UHJLVWHUHG E\ WKH ERG\ DV strain and will be felt as pain or discomfort. If the muscles that support the neck are weak, (these are similar to our ‘core’ muscles that support the lower back and pelvis), then VXVWDLQLQJ WKLV SRVLWLRQ ZLOO EHFRPH GLÉ? FXOW and the larger muscles around the neck and shoulder blades will have to take over. ROSE FIRTH – GREAT BASSETLAW FLOWER SHOW Who are and what do The Friends of Doncaster Museum do? Their lectures are listed on this page and I know some of you are curious. They meet monthly to enjoy a talk on the arts or heritage, but their main purpose is to support the Museum and Art Gallery and each year, the Friends identify a way to support the development of the Museum through fundraising activities. The 2019 target is to fund a mobile planetarium at the museum which will be there for at least two events, to encourage families to experience the inspiration of space whilst celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing; these events will be free. Also, The Friends will fund the membership of The Contemporary Arts Society, an organisation which has been in operation for almost a hundred years and during that time has bought and gifted many valuable works of art to galleries across the country. Doncaster, during a previous period of membership was allocated seventy works of art, including some of the most valuable in the collection. By raising the funds to pay for a renewal of membership, Doncaster Museum will continue to develop its art collection into the future. Doncaster Civic Trust has donated £2000 towards the new membership, and a very successful fundraising event with Gervase Phinn boosted funds further. St Michael’s New School Year Welcome back from all at Rossington St Michael’s CE Primary School. We hope that you had a lovely Summer and enjoyed the warm weather. St Michael’s has been a ‘hub’ of excitement and all the children have settled in well. We are very lucky to KDYH VRPH QHZ VWDÎ? ZRUNLQJ at our school- Mrs Ludbrook in Foundation, Mrs Cooper in Year 1 and Mr Poole and Mr Sell in Year 3. This month’s reporters wanted to know more about them so they ‘hunted’ them GRZQ DQG TXHVWLRQHG WKHP Here are their interviews: Mr Sell Why did you start teaching? I really wanted to help children to reach their true potential. Have you ever taught before? Yes I taught in a school in Lincoln. How do you like teaching at our school? It is fantastic so far and the children are wonderful. Why did you come to this school? I came to this school because I am moving to Doncaster but also I heard that St Michael’s is a great place. Do you enjoy teaching? Yes I enjoy it very much. Mr Poole Have you had any teaching experience? I have been teaching since 2001, a mix of supply and main teaching. How are you enjoying it so far? I am really enjoying getting to know all the teachers and the children. What made you want to teach? Mrs Adair, our executive headteacher, recommended it. Is it a long drive here? Pride of Rossington The Pride of Rossington event will have taken place on Saturday 22 September 2018 at Rossington Memorial Hall. This is the Council’s second year and the number of nominees has tripled since last year showing the residents of Rossington are really proud of their local ‘heros’. Firework Display The Parish Council’s Firework Display will take place at 7.00 pm on Monday 5 November 2018 on the Welfare Field. One week it might be the Dark Peaks, the next the Trent River, the next the farmlands of North Yorkshire. We provide walks on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the year. These walks are usually of about 10 miles in length and generally they are for reasonable experienced walkers.

Hi Everyone, Autumn is definitely with us bringing cooler weather and better temperatures for our 4-legged friends. The summer months have been fantastic however it has been a struggle trying to keep all of our dogs cool. We are full to overflowing with some beautiful dogs and cats in our Sanctuary that all need to find their fur ever homes. Pedigrees, cross breeds, large and small. One such dog is a 9-month-old Golden Beagle cross (Golden Retriever x Beagle) she is a little too large to be a handbag dog but she is the prettiest, funniest, loving puppy. However, she does not have many manners, so time would have to be spent on her training, but she is very biddable and she does listen. She originally came from Cyprus and has been re homed but unfortunately being a young puppy, her new owners found her a little too much. She is a smallish Retriever size and will probably fill out a little but don’t think she will get a great deal larger. As a Sanctuary we see some awful sights, but we never do get used to them. Two weeks ago, a Greyhound was dumped on the lane between the vets and our Sanctuary, he was a very sick boy and very emaciated it was touch and go in the first week whether he was going to survive. A week later he was released from the vets hospital, he is a very lucky boy and now the long process begins to rehabilitate him. He was chipped but we were unable to contact his previous owners. Having your animal chipped it so important, however when moving house you need to make sure you change your address with the I D company you have used. The only good thing I am able to say about this is that he was at least left next to the vets and our Sanctuary where he could be found, I hate to think what could have happened if he had been left in a field or in the middle of a wood, let’s not dwell on that! We are desperately in need of funds and with this in mind have arranged a Ladies evening event on the 12th October at 7 pm in the Parish Room, Tickhill. This will be a fun evening with stalls selling Jewellery, candles, handbags, knitwear/tops, scarves, pamper your pooch stall and some surprises. If you are looking to start your Christmas shopping or just want to spoil yourself do come and have a relaxing browse. Join us and enjoy delicious homemade cake and fresh coffee, also sample our Mayflower “ Cocktail “ all included in an admission fee of £5. Please help us raise money for this fantastic Charity and the work it does. Our fundraising is so important and without the generosity of our supporters we would not be in a position to help animals like the abandoned Greyhound. Mayflower Sanctuary are here to re-home abandoned, abused and unwanted cats and dogs, we will never euthanize a healthy animal, and will keep all our long-term animals until their forever homes are found. Cats and dogs come to us for many reasons, marriage breakup, people fall on hard times and life in general alters for many people. Mary came into care with her two kittens after their owner decided that she couldn’t look after them anymore. Mary was a housecat who escaped from an open window and returned later that day. Unfortunately she was ‘in season’ and was now pregnant !! Even housecats should be spayed as they are terrific escape-artists when in-season. Her kittens are now grown up and ready to find new homes of their own. Time for Mary to do the same. As a previous housecat she would be happy to remain so. She has been spayed so no longer does her Houdini act! Despite being with her kittens, Mary is unwilling to share with another cat so would be better as an only pet. That way she gets all the fusses.

Fluffy Female 2 Years July 2018 No Some Yes

Fluffy was found wandering on an industrial site hungry, matted and generally uncared for. The workers there knew the regular cats on the site but had never seen this little lady before. Whether she was a stray looking to join the feral colony there or she had been abandoned, we will never know. To add to her troubles, Fluffy was being bullied by the resident cats. One of the staff felt sorry for her and took her home but unfortunately she didn’t get along with her dog. So here she is looking for a new home to call her own. After a few good meals and the matts brushed out, she has been transformed to her former glory. Fluffy would probably be happy as a housecat but, more than likely, she would like a secure garden to explore. Her past is uncertain but hopefully her future is bright.
