The summer holidays already! August can be a slow time for lots of local shops and small businesses, with so many of their customers away on holiday, or enjoying a dierent routine which takes them to dierent shopping venues. I am sure that there are some local to you who would appreciate your support during this period (and the rest of the time too). Whatever you are doing this summer I hope you get the opportunity to enjoy a little bit of relaxation time and make some memories with your loved ones. The architect and structural engineer are now able to examine the location of the plaster/masonry fall at close quarters in order to assess the work necessary to make the area safe. Despite all of the above, in terms of overall crime, levels have continued to remain static with no particular emerging issues causing me any concerns. +RZHYHU Ζ XUJH UHDGHUV WR remain vigilante and ensure you implement simple crime prevention methods to reduce the chances of you becoming a victim of crime. The hot days and warm nights over the last month or so have caused some people to leave house windows open both day and night, which can present the opportunist thief with the chance to easily enter and exit your house. Although we have not seen any problems of this nature in Tickhill or the surrounding villages, as the warm weather is forecast to continue at the time 8

However, we did record four crimes for theft from PRWRU YHKLFOHV ΖQ RQH RI WKHVH crimes, the number plates were stolen, but in the other three the vehicle was entered and items stolen including a set of golf FOXEV DQG WRROV 7KHVH RÎ? HQFHV DOO WRRN SODFH RQ GLÎ? HUHQW GDWHV with no obvious links between them. We also recorded two crimes where vans were stolen. ΖQ ERWK FDVHV WKH YHKLFOHV KDG been left with the ignition keys in the glove box and we were fortunate enough to recover one of them at Wadworth. The other remains outstanding. We also recorded one residential burglary in Wadworth, where a shed was attacked and one in Micklebring, which saw the garage targeted. ΖQ WHUPV RI DQWL VRFLDO EHKDYLRXU

we have seen a reduction in complaints in Tickhill during June with six incidents reported compared to eleven in May. However, we have recorded increases overall with six incidents reported in Wadworth, three in Braithwell and one incident reported in Stainton. As expected, a number of these complaints related to LVVXHV LQYROYLQJ RÎ? URDG ELNHV DQG TXDGV EXW RXU RÎ? URDG bike team have had some successes in the area in terms of warning notices and seizures. Ζ DOVR ZDQWHG WR PHQWLRQ MXVW D IHZ RWKHU WKLQJV We have conducted a few more speed enforcement operation in Tickhill over the past month, which led to a number of verbal warnings being issued and a few people being dealt with for speeding. Hi Everyone, Well what a fantastic summer we are having at the moment, coupled with football fever it couldn’t be better. Unfortunately, there is always a down side to the hot weather for all the animals in our care, it is a struggle to keep everyone cool. For the dogs that love water we have paddling pools in their runs it is really wonderful to watch them play in the water keeping cool. However, we have been struggling to get our hand on more hard paddling pools, (this hot weather has been a bit of a surprise) we are 3 short for the dogs that love water and have had to keep swopping them around. If anyone out there has one they are not using or can get their hand on one and donate it to us that would be amazing (The hard ones, not blow up). For the dogs that are not keen on water we hose the runs to keep area’s cool, which seems to work. We have had 3 lovely dogs come to our Sanctuary recently with huge medical issues, we have managed to save their lives but at a huge cost. They all had major leg issues and one had to have an amputation, but hopefully they are now on the road to recovery and will be ready to go to their forever homes. These operations have left our funds in desperate need. If anyone would either like to donate to help cover this cost or just complete a direct debit even if it’s just £2 per month as every little helps and the Sanctuary desperately needs to cover this cost. Thank you to everyone that attended the annual dog show in Tickhill. Unfortunately, we felt the heat was too oppressive for the dogs, so be on the safe side we had to close the event early. We still raised in the region of £1500-£2000 pounds so it was still very much worthwhile. There is much planning and

preparation required for an event like this, so everyone helping on the day a big thank you. We hope everyone remembered our Summer Fare that will have now have taken place it was the 29th July and was advertised in the last issue. A big thank you to people (or fairies!) that keep leaving towels etc in my garage they are a great help to us. We have some beautiful dogs and cats here at the moment so if you are looking for that special pet to make your life complete please, please come and visit us. We also have a great shop with everything you could want for your pet. Please be double aware in these rising temperatures not to leave animals in hot cars even if the sun isn’t out a car can still become a terribly hot place. Also make sure there is plenty of shade and drinking water for all of your pets, including horses. The Sanctuary have a Job Vacancy for an experienced Kennel Carer. This is a full-time position working 8 hours a day 5 day per week including weekends on a rota basis. Experience of working with dogs and cats is essential. Sami Male 7 Years May 2018 No No 10+

Sami was rehomed from Mayflower as a youngster but he has had to come back into our care due to circumstances beyond his control. He used to be very happy in his home and enjoyed life to the full snuggling up with his Mum in the evenings and exploring his garden during the day. This all changed when a huge tom-cat moved into the area! This tom terrorised the neighbourhood and picked on all the cats in the area – particularly Sami. Sami’s mum started to keep him in as a housecat and this was working well until one night when the Tom broke through the locked catflap and attacked Sami in the kitchen. This resulted in Sami being rushed to the emergency Vets and he still bears the scars to his left eye. Unfortunately when Sami returned home, he was terrified of everything in his home even though the bully had gone. Even though his owner loved him very much she realised that a fresh start was what he needed. Sami is a wonderfully affectionate chap but needs to be an only pet who is now kept safely inside as a housecat. Have you got what Sami needs.??

Tickhill Estfeld School Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits At the end of June parents, carers, families and friends of the pupils at Estfeld were treated to a wonderful performance of Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits. It was a fabulous show, performed over three nights. All of the Key Stage pupils were involved; some 123, which is no mean feat. The cast were superb and enthralled the audience with tales of Eastern promise and laughs a-plenty along the way. (The old jokes are the best). It was a real team effort; thank you to all of the pupils, staff and volunteers who helped in any way to make it a memorable show.

From Little (Oxfam) Acorns Who would have thought it? Our Oxfam shop has come all the way from a fundUDLVLQJ FRÎ? HH PRUQLQJ LQ WR WKH EXV\ shop in Buttercross Court. We began, for several years, by having a pop-up shop for 3 weeks leading up to Christmas, VRPHWLPHV LQ HPSW\ VKRSV RU *HRÎ? Jackson’s workshop, or Mr Bowley’s shed. When these options ran out we were able to use Portacabins on the carpark, but it was not very comfortable on a cold winters day with no loo, no heat, no kettle – although the last one did boast a small light bulb. The thought of having our very own permanent shop with real electricity supply in Buttercross Court was luxury indeed. Sceptics said we’d last about 3 months, that we would never get enough stock to keep going, but here we are still going strong almost 40 years since WKDW Č´ UVW FRÎ? HH PRUQLQJ Č‚ DQG WKDQNV WR the people of Tickhill and surroundings there has been no shortage of stock!

The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays and the aim is to encourage children to read for pleasure during the long vacation. The Out and About Club Rather a quiet time for Out and About at the moment but it is, of course, the holiday season and people have other things arranged. Some of us went along to Wadworth to the concert given by the Harmonix Ladies Choir on Friday 13th in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance which ZDV DGYHUWLVHG LQ WKH -XO\ LVVXH RI 7LFNKLOO 7RGD\ b :HbDOVR visited Whitby on the 29th July for our summer outing. Dear Friends, A week before writing this article, a Doncaster businessman had a row with me regarding my work with the homeless people in Doncaster. To cut a long story short, he runs a food business in the heart of town and was annoyed because Ζ KDYH EHHQ IHHGLQJ WKH KRPHOHVV SHRSOH RQ a hot Sunday night. He even made a cheeky VXJJHVWLRQ WKDW Ζ VKRXOG WDNH DOO WKH KRPHOHVV people to my home and feed them. Even worse, KH PHQWLRQHG WKDW Ζ ZDV LJQRUDQW EHFDXVH Ζ did not know that they made about ÂŁ200 a day EHJJLQJ $V WKH H[FKDQJH ZHQW RQ Ζ WKRXJKW WR myself that this bloke sounded like some of our politicians who have been in the news recently. Ζ UHČľHFWHG RQ WKH IDFW WKDW KH DOVR VRXQGHG OLNH the councillor from Windsor who suggested last May that the council should clear all the ȆULÎ? Boots & Boleros Line Dance classes have some changes coming up. First of all – sadly – the Carlton in Lindrick class has had to close. However, we will be starting a brand new day time Beginners Class at Oldcotes Village Hall on 12th September from 1 – 3pm. Cost will be £3.50 with a break for free tea and biscuits! Bircotes Swimming Club turned 3 years old this month and we celebrated by organising a sponsored swim for our members (photo shows some of the swimmers in progress), who raised money which will be shared equally between Asthma UK and the Club. The swimmers each swam up to 5 miles, which is an incredible achievement, especially as it was one of the hottest days of the year. Our youngest swimmer (only 6 years old) even managed to swim an amazing 20 lengths without stopping! Talk about determination! The sponsorship money is still coming in, and we are hoping to be able to give a large sum to our chosen charity. The coaching team have chosen our new Club Captains for this year, and we are very pleased to announce that the following swimmers have been chosen: Dominic will stay on as Head Club Captain, Tyler will be a brilliant Vice Club Captain for the boys and Abigail has been chosen Vice Club Captain for the girls. This is giving them a great responsibility, as they will

Although the Society normally finishes our season in May, the extra meeting in June turned out to be a roaring success. Ninety people came along to The Hub and listened spellbound as Lesley Smith, from Tutbury Castle, portrayed Anne Boleyn. Treating the audience as her memories or ghosts, she talked of her fears of her execution next day, might there be a last minute reprieve and how she still loved her husband, Henry VIII. 66 TICKHILL TODAY

Tickhill Horticultural Society Dr. Mike Davey from Ruddington, Nottingham gave us an excellent talk on “Allotment Gardening and Vegetables for all Seasons” on Thursday 28th June. We saw a range of styles of sheds on allotment sites and heard how many allotment clubs prepare one seed order for the requirements of all its members in order to obtain substantial discounts. The members who decided vegetables were not for them missed out as Mike also covered the cultivation RI ȵ RZHUV 3KLOLS .LUN ZRQ D lovely “Genii” fuchsia which ZDV RQH RI WKH UDɞ H SUL]HV Mike had brought with him. Although the afternoon of the 7LFNKLOO *DOD ZDV D΍ HFWHG E\ the number of supporters who were wanting to watch a certain football match televised at 3pm, congratulations must go to the Scout and Guide Association for their organisation of a VXSHUE VKRZ HQMR\HG E\ VR many. We were pleased to donate £50 from our sales of £222 to the organisers towards the maintenance of the Scout HQ building.
