Welcome to the May 2015 edition

How the months seem to be flying by! I have had a very busy month since last writing, although it has also included a relaxing break with my family enjoying a sunny week in Lanzarote during the Easter holidays. As soon as last months magazines went to print I set about emptying my kitchen and ended up with boxes piled high in the garage and my study and by the time the magazines arrived from my printers my old kitchen had been stripped of the old cupboards. The magazines and all of their accompanying leaflets were sorted from the corner of the kitchen surrounding by large boxes containing the new kitchen cabinets and various new appliances! Good job the weather remained dry as we also had boxes of magazines all over the driveway! The kitchen is now complete apart from a little decorating that will be done as soon as I have this magazine to print. Andy and David of AJ Installations have done a fantastic job, looking after all aspects of the refit and helping to ensure everything went smoothly with as little disruption as possible. A big thank you also to Stuart at DC Interiors for all his design input; helping me include the features I really wanted, home visits checking on progress and the supply of a beautiful kitchen which maximises the space available. I’ve only waited 10 years to get this kitchen!

The June issue will be delivered to you late May. If you would like to have something included in this, please make sure details are with me by Friday 15th May. Enjoy May and I will be back in a months’ time with your June magazine.

Best wishes, Paula x

Tickhill Music Society St. Mary’s Primary School The Jubilee String Quartet will perform works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Janácek Gala Ticket Holders Join us for the final concert of the season! Admission £10 at the door with the exception of our subscription members Children under 16 free when accompanied by an adult. Students (16-19) free Our new season begins on 18th September with an organ recital by David Houlder in St. Mary’s Church.

FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH. THIR RTEENTH. For the superstitious the date means bad luck, but for Tickhill Music Society it meant a splendid concert. The artists were James Turnbull (oboe and d cor anglais) and Libby Burgess (piano) and they made an excellent team. The programme e had a neat arrangement with pieces by six British composers sandwiched between a Dane and a German. This year is the fiftieth anniversary of the birth of Carl Nielsen and so the concert began with two of his Fantasy Pieces, ‘Romance’ and nd ‘Humoresque’. The contemporary English composer, Jonathan Dove, wrote his ‘Music for a Lovelorn Lenanshee’ for the Park Lane Group and featured a staccato piano and a jerky oboe with numerous repetitive phrases. Next came a piano solo ‘In a May Morning’ one of three pieces from ‘Sarnia’ ( which refers to Guernsey), sensitively played. The first half closed with Six Studies in English Folksong by Vaughan Williams. Originally written fot the cello it was here played on the cor anglais. The second half began with ‘Soliloquy’ by Elgar which did not seem to have many Elgarian ‘fingerprints’. Richard Rodney Bennett gave us ‘Two Country Dances’ (from a set of four), the second being engagingly perky. The Gerald Finzi ‘Interlude’ dates from the 1930’s and was originally meant to be part of an oboe quartet never completed. Finally two movements from Mendelssohn’s ‘Songs without Words’, written for the piano but here arranged by a French oboist, the first being a Gondoliers’ Song and the second a virtuoso ‘Bees’ Wedding’ played with lightning fingering. The delighted audience insisted on an encore and so the concert ended fittingly with ‘Evensong’ by Schumann. Throughout the music had been sensitively partnered by an unobtrusive but supportive pianist. Altogether a very satisfying evening.

TICKHILL Methodist Church NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN We do not as yet have any proposed date for the referendum on our Neighbourhood Plan. Once the May elections are out of the way, hopefully the Borough’s elections team will turn their attention to Tickhill. As there has been such a long formal process, it may be helpful to remind readers of some of the broad objectives of the Neighbourhood Plan. The fundamental aim is to give the community more control over its affairs, so that we can preserve and enhance the attractiveness of this historic township, promote its businesses, protect it from unwelcome forms of change and improve community facilities for all age groups. All this came from the months of consultation at the outset of the preparation of the plan. Among the more detailed objectives are: • to encourage opportunities for local employment which help sustain businesses and the local economy • to protect and promote Tickhill’s historic and architectural features for the benefit of residents and visitors alike • to reduce through traffic (especially west-east from the M18 towards Lincolnshire) which causes congestion and pollution • to increase road safety and make crossing our main roads easier for pedestrians • to ensure a high quality of design and appropriateness to their surroundings of any new building • to encourage residents and visitors to share in the shopping and other facilities of our town centre • to maintain the Green Belt, support local farmers and protect our countryside • to work for effective flood prevention. These examples demonstrate that the Neighbourhood Plan includes both areas where immediate action can be achieved and longer-term aspirations where the Town Council will seek to work with other public bodies and agencies. The Plan is dated 2013-2028 (the same time frame as Doncaster’s Core Strategy). Of course it will need modification and updating but the15-year span shows the level of ambition!

Wadworth church gets an upgrade

Milk kitchen installed at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice by DC Interiors A separate kitchen has been installed at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice so that children’s milk can be stored and prepared in one place. The milk kitchen allows nursing and support staff in the Care Team at the North Anston based hospice to store and prepare feeds for children who cannot eat food. The kitchen means that staff can prepare the feeds in one dedicated place, ready to give to children in the hospice’s care. Previously, milk was stored and prepared in the hospice’s pharmacy. Sarah Branson, Care Team Manager, said: “Many of our children require specialist feeds and all have different amounts at varying points throughout a day. It is really important for us to have this dedicated milk kitchen for space and storage and many other reasons – including best practice.” Bluebell Wood has a specialist team of care staff which supports children and young people with a shortened life expectancy, both in their own homes and at the hospice. The team looks after children with a vast range of complex medical needs, offering short breaks, day care provision, community support and end of life treatment and care. As it costs £3m a year to run the charity’s vital services, DC Interiors, a company with premises in Maltby, Rotherham, and Edenthorpe, Doncaster, provided and installed the kitchen completely free of charge. Stuart Allen, of DC Interiors, said: “We are delighted to be able to give something back to the community and it’s great to know it’ll make a positive difference. This is one of the bigger charity projects we have carried out recently and we are proud to be supporting pp g Bluebell Wood in this way.” y T

St John the Baptist Church is a wonderful Grade 1 listed building in the lovely village of Wadworth. There has been a church building in Wadworth for a very long time. The styles of some of the columns were not used after 1180, so we know there was a church built by 1180 on the current site. Over the centuries the church has had many extensions and modifications, often as a result of new laws, inventions or theological thinking. The church building is a visual feast and has a prayerful feel inside; it forms a centre in the village around which life happens. However we have no toilet, it is really difficult to get into church and then move around in the church with a wheel chair. The south path is in need of repair and widening, we have no loop system for those with hearing aids. The pipes and radiators are largely Victorian and very inefficient and hinder the movement around church. So they need replacing. There are also a number of items that need maintenance and repair to keep the building going. On Monday 13th April work started fix the above problems. We are thankful indeed for the generosity of everyone that has gathered the funds necessary for these works to take place. There have been the tireless efforts of those organising and running the fund raising events at church which the whole community has supported over the years. There have been some large donations from individuals and then there was last summer’s fund raising around the village. A £38,100 grant from WREN has provided just over a third of the funding for the project. WREN is a not-for-profit business that helps benefit the lives of people who live close to landfill sites by awarding grants for community, conservation and heritage projects. You can follow their projects via twitter @WREN_news. All in all a magnificent effort. T

community y meow!

Hello everyonee ank and a big thank he response you for the we have had from last month’s feature. We have had some lovely people asking if they can help with fundraising, so that is a start. However we are not out of the woods yet and money is still tight. We are trying to attend as many of the fund raisers that we can over the summer months but we are still short of people to man stalls etc. Even though most of us work our holidays around our fundraising we are still in need of more volunteers. Could anyone man stalls for us at the events below. You would have to collect enough bric a brac (maybe from friends and family) to make money from a tombola stall, or if anyone has any other ideas that would work that would be fine. Otherwise we will have to decline these events. We have so many events being offered to us and we could do without declining them, but unfortunately we need volunteers.

Finding a forever home

Our Sanctuary has a small area in reception that you can purchase dog beds, toys, leads, harness’s and lots of other interesting bits and bobs. So even if you are not looking for a cat or dog please come up to our reception area and take a look at the numerous things on offer. There are really beautiful dog beds ranging from £5 to £15 pounds so come up and take a look. Now a little about our lovely dogs and cats. We still have Tia the chocolate Lab with a skin complaint that has given her bald patches but she is looking much better now and is the friendliest girl. We also have Olive the beautiful Springer Spaniel who is just longing for a new home of her own.

6th June Ranskill Primary School Festival 14th June Clumber Park, Fun Dog Show 12th July Town Fields Gala at Doncaster

So if you have any idea’s we will be happy to support you with literature and a gazebo. You will need a folding paste table as our tables will not go into a car. Unfortunately we have had to close our shop in the Manton area of Worksop but we are hoping to move our shop into Worksop itself in the not too distant future. We are also looking for volunteers to man our new shop. If this is to be a success we need the shop to be open 6 days a week, so if you have an odd day in the week or on a Saturday that you could give up to help us please let us know. We also need good quality items or unwanted gifts to fill the shop, so if you are having a change of decor and spring cleaning, please donate to us it will give us such pleasure to see our new shop full of quality items.

Jack the Jack Russell is still with us. He came in with his friends but they were rehomed immediately, it is so sad to see his little face week after week he desperately need a home full of love and cuddles . He is however a typical Jack Russell with attitude.

We re-homed May a beautiful black and white short haired cat 3 years ago, but unfortunately her mummy has gone into a Hospice she is very sad and needs another caring forever home.

2nd May: A Tombola (with a difference) will be held outside the Parish Room Tickhill on Scarecrow Festival Day. Please come along and say hello (and win something special!) 9th May: We are holding a Table Top sale at the Community Centre on Doncaster Road in Bawtry (just past the children’s nursery coming into Bawtry) Tables are limited and are £10 each. There will be tea and cakes to purchase. 17th May: We are holding our annual Sponsored Dog Walk in Bawtry Forest. Please call us for sponsor forms. There will be refreshments to purchase too. This is usually a beautiful fresh morning so bring your walking shoes and enjoy a walk before your Sunday lunch. 11th July: We will be rattling buckets on the streets of Doncaster so please come along and say hello. 12th July is our annual Fun Dog Show at Tithes Lane Tickhill, we all love this event as we are able to see lots of dogs that we have re-homed. If anyone would like to help with any event please call us 01302 711330 and just leave a message.

Please remember now the sun has at last appeared and I know we are all really happy to see the sunshine please remember don’t leave your beloved dog or cat in a hot car.

Tickhill In Bloom At a recent coffee morning we were able to raise a record breaking sum of just over £270. Many thanks to all those who attended and contributed. The sum raised will help to finance the purchase of plants for our summer plantings Many of you reading this will have enjoyed the displays from the winter plantings especially over the last few weeks. The relatively mild winter has certainly helped. As many residents and visitors have commented, the geraniums in particular have never been bettered. Later this month our hard working volunteers will be replacing these plants with a mix of geraniums and begonias. Stewart Piper Car Sales have kindly agreed to sponsor our Buttercross plantings which will be a mix of surfinas and begonias giving a yellow and blue theme.

Celebrate 70th Anniversary of V.E. Day with strawberry tea. Friday afternoon, 8th May at 2 pm to 4 pm - £5. Please contact Maureen on 01302 852874 or Pat 01302 851078 by Thursday 7th May.

We are hopeful that our summer plantings will be as successful as those enjoyed over the winter and spring. We thank all those residents and businesses in the village that support us. Without that support we could not continue to provide the colourful displays which enhance our village providing pleasure to residents and visitors alike. T

St Mary’s School Roll Back the Stone At the end of the Spring term, parents and friends of St Mary’s School gathered in Church ready for the end of term Easter service. Year 3 were in charge and retold the Easter story through their performance “Roll back the Stone”. What an amazing rendition of the Easter story it was! All the children acted, sang and danced their way through the arrest, trial, crucifixion n and resurrection of Jesus. Highlights included soloists Katiee Louise and Sophia who both gave excellent performances capturing solemn and emotional aspects of the story and scenes from Shady dramatically presented the feelings and thoughts of Pontius Pilate. Callum delighted the audience with his amazing portrayal of Judas Iscariot. Although there were tear jerking moments the overall mood of the show was very uplifting with lively celebratory songs. Mrs Evans, Year 3 teacher said “We certainly have some very talented children. They were all amazing.” Thank you Year 3 for your wonderful performance.

WELL DONE!

Estfeld School–

Other cultures, their traditions and festivals In school we often learn about other cultures, their traditions and festivals. The pupils enjoy researching the reasons and stories behind the traditions and enjoy celebrating the similarities and differences that they identify between them and our own culture and traditions. Recently our Reception Class celebrated the Chinese New Year with a banquet – they feasted on noodles, rice, prawn crackers amongst other things and everybody gave the chopsticks a good try – perseverance is the key! The pupils were also very lucky to be entertained by our Dragon Band from Year 4, who played throughout. During the week the pupils had learned about how the Chinese New Year came to be named after an animal, had a go at dragon dancing and made dragon masks. But is 2015 the Year of the Goat or Year of the Sheep? The confusion stems from the Chinese character “yang”, which can translate in colloquial Chinese as either sheep or goat. Are you a goat (or a sheep)? Those born in 1967, 1979, 1991 or 2003 are, and can count their lucky colours as brown, red and purple. They are kind and peaceable.

On returning to England the team beat Hull City FC and are due to play Liverpool FC at the Keepmoat Stadium in May. Congratulation to our Data Manager Maria Connolly and her friends who successfully braved the mud, freezing water, hills and obstacles of the Major Series trail challenge to raise a massive £2700 for Bluebell Wood Hospice and Clic Sargent. A great achievement!

STWCC welcomed 6 staff and 59 students (Y8) from 2 College Durendael in the Netherlands who came along to experience a school day in England. And what a day they had! They experienced a variety of lessons and a traditional lunch of fish, chips and mushy peas! There were many highlights including Mr Oldham’s welcome in Dutch, Mr Hamshaw’s sports session and Mr Lowndes science lesson plan in Dutch, complete with flag. Dates for your diary

garden view

Chelsea 19th - 23rd May

The Chelsea Flower Show is to gardening what the Paris catwalks are to fashion.

By Rachel Leverton Paris fashions may seem outlandish, but they push certain trends, which in a watered-down version end up in high-street shops. Likewise, though many of Chelsea’s show gardens are fantasy pieces which demonstrate outrageous ideas, the horticultural trends on display will find their way into our own more modest plots. For example; did you know that bonsai specimens and topiary gardens were introduced at Chelsea in 1913? Rock gardens were introduced in the 1940’s and decking in the eighties. All of these can now be bought in garden centres up and down the land. In 2006 James Dyson even produced a water feature in which the water ran uphill. Actually I’m still waiting for my garden centre to stock one of those! Maybe one day... Chelsea isn’t just about high fashion though; it reflects environmental trends too. In recent years there have been hosepipe bans in the great Pavilion and many of the gardens have showcased drought-tolerant planting schemes. Chelsea draws over 150 000 visitors each year. For the past ten years it’s been held over five days instead of four, such is its popularity. 44

TICKHILL TODAY

The sheer quantity and varieties of plants on display to the general public is breath-taking. Chelsea really is window-shopping at its finest. It’s like walking through a real-life version of the best garden design catalogue in the world. And if you visit on the last day you don’t have to restrict yourself to window shopping. At 4pm precisely a bell rings and the great Chelsea sell-off begins. The poor designers, after all their hard work, begin the mammoth task of dismantling their creations. The good news is that the public can buy them. It’s perfectly possible to end up owning a little piece of a prize winning garden. So what should you choose? If it were me I’d want something special; a reminder of my visit. I’d go for a species which I know would grow in my garden, but an unusual variety, not available in my local garden centre. In my case it would probably be an unusual lavender or fuchsia. Choose carefully and you could have a little piece of Chelsea gold adorning your plot for many years to come.

Methodist Minister Dear Friends, There is a story of a black South African woman who stood in an emotionally charged courtroom listening to white police officers acknowledge the atrocities they had perpetrated in the name of apartheid. Officer van de Broek accepted that he was guilty for the death of her son. He and his police friends had shot her eighteen-year-old son at point-blank range. They partied while they burned his body, turning it over on the fire until it was ashes. Eight years later, this same policeman and his friends arrived to seize her husband. Hours later, van de Broek came to fetch the woman. He took her to a woodpile where her husband lay bound. She was forced to watch as they poured petrol over his body and ignited the flames that consumed his body. The last words her husband said were “Forgive them.” As van de Broek stood awaiting judgement, the South Africa Truth and Reconciliation Commission asked the woman what she wanted. The woman stated, “Mr. van de Broek took all my family away from me, and I still have a lot of love to give. Twice a month, I would like for him to come to the ghetto and spend a day with me so I can be a mother to him.” That was not all. She added, “I would like Mr. van de Broek to know that he is forgiven by God and that I forgive him, too. I would like someone to lead me to where he is seated so I can embrace him and he can know my forgiveness is real.” As the elderly woman was led across the courtroom, van de Broek fainted. The story of Good Friday rings a bell in this story. Jesus was tortured and crucified amongst two thieves. Whiles dying on the cross, he said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23: 34). I wonder who has offended you and how you’re dealing with the situation. Yes, humanly speaking, you want to break even with the person but what happens afterwards may be devastating. Other people would want to keep the hurt in themselves and bear the brunt of anger and hatred. That is not the spirit of the Easter season. At Easter, Christians believe that God in the form of his Son Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead after the third day. Through that we are liberated from sin and all its clutches. We are forgiven when we confess and repent from our shortcomings. We can therefore come to God and ask him to help us forgive those who have offended us. We can also ask him to help us ask for forgiveness from those we have offended. As you celebrate Easter, I wonder if I can suggest to you to consider reconciling with people who have offended you in the past so that you may have the peace you need in your life. Have a blessed Easter season.

‘The real junk food project Doncaster’ Could you support this community project? We are group of volunteers working to save food waste, we then create tasty nutritious meals that we serve on a pay as you feel basis. Our message is to value food, value people. Food brings us together in a unique and powerful way. All too often we are isolated undervalued and undernourished physically and spiritually by our way of life. We aim to change that. We need volunteers and we need supporter/backers/sponsors to get our project firmly of the ground. We need a venue we can use regularly, and maybe someone out there has a space empty at the weekends or evenings and we can split our pay as you feel donations? Maybe there are farmers who are saddened to leave their crops rotting in the fields because they weren’t quite right for a supermarket order? Maybe there is t-shirt printer who will donate us some of our own t-shirt merchandise to raffle? Maybe there is an old building somewhere we could purchase cheaply and we can start a fundraiser and renovate it too? We have had a lot community support so far, from embroidered aprons to a website designed and built and even a food hygiene course for 5 volunteers. We have hosted a cafe event in already used business and a dinner event at a community cafe and will continue with our mission this way. People really want to make this happen with us and believe in our message so we are aiming to reach as many as possible. Please like and share our social media pages and do get in touch. YOGATHON – Keep Giving and Yoga OM Local teachers are already planning Doncaster’s second annual Yogathon to raise funds for St. John’s Hospice. On International Yoga Day – Sunday 21 June – Tall Trees Yoga and Pilates will host a day of yoga and pilates classes, workshops, stalls and a sponsored Sun Salutation Challenge. There will be something for everyone including yoga for kids, seniors, athletes and those who want pure relaxation. Everyone including complete beginners are welcome to come along to try a class or two, participate in mini-workshops (topics include Yoga Philosophy, Chakra healing and Chanting), browse the stalls selling yoga and wellbeing related items and try some tasty vegetarian food. “This is a great opportunity to come along to try something different and hang out at Tall Trees with like-minded people. A lot of people say they aren’t flexible enough to do yoga but that’s like saying you are too dirty to take a bath,” says Rebecca Leam, yoga instructor. “The Yogathon will be a fun day for everyone to help raise some serious funds for St. John’s Hospice, based just around the corner from the studio. It’s such a worthy cause that touches and supports so many people.” There are numerous ways to get involved from holding a stall, gaining sponsorship for the Sun Salutation Challenge, and participating in a class and/or workshop.

. . . but not TODAY

At our well attended March meeting Pat McLoughlin gave a fascinating talk on the Castles of South Yorkshire. There were many of them, Mexborough, Conisborough, Sandal, Thorne, Rotherham, Kimberworth, Doncaster, Sheffield and many more. They were built for safety not omfort mostly to a standardised “motte and bailey” design using local materials and Saxon slave labour working 24/7 – which shows that shiftwork was used back in 1086AD! Thank you Pat for a most interesting talk. Ultimate Bathrooms have presented a copy of the Society’s book “ TICKHILL – discover its past” to St Marys School and at the same time the Society gave the School a further 150 copies of its booklet “Tickhill Treasures”. The 58

photograph shows Clare Carr of Ultimate Bathrooms and David Walters, the Society’s Past Chairman making the presentations. Our last meeting of the 2014/15 year will be on Thursday May 21st when Malcolm Oxley will tell us “How to be a Medieval Monk at Kirkstall Abbey”. Maybe not very high on most people’s bucket list but the talk should be interesting and will perhaps reveal some hidden advantages of being a Monk in medieval times. The meeting will be at 7.30pm (doors open 7.00pm) in the Methodist Schoolroom, Northgate and as usual visitors will be welcome.

The fifth Tuesday of the month has historically featured a social event with wives rather than a business meeting and on 29th March twenty nine of us enjoyed a meal, a general knowledge quiz and a chat at the Three Tuns in Stainton where the 63rd of our 65 Giant Easter Eggs was raffled off, and won by Lion Ken Green. Our sincere thanks are due to all the bars, clubs, restaurants and retail outlets which took one or more of our Easter Eggs and especially to all of you who supported the draws for those eggs. Your support, whether for the Christmas Float or any other fund raising initiative means a lot and is great encouragement to Lions in our efforts to provide help when we can.

You will be aware that we aim to use the bulk of the funds available to assist local welfare projects and initiatives, but, just like our Government donating a percentage of GDP on foreign aid, we are aware that around the world serious tragedies occur and in many areas acute sickness is rife. Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) is an organisation supported by Lions Clubs which maintains a reserve of cash enabling it to assist urgent problems immediately rather than waiting to raise funds . Funds donated by Lions Clubs like ourselves also help to restore sight to over 3000 people round the world daily through cataract surgeries and have prevented serious vision loss for more than 30 million. 271 million treatments for river blindness have been provided through the building or expansion of 660 eye care hospitals and clinics and the treatment of many thousands of eye specialists and eye health workers. LCIF is therefore worthy of a little help from all of us. Dates for your Diaries On Friday 26th June we are holding a “Summer Bash 2015” in a marquee behind the Scarbrough Arms, featuring live music, good food and real ales served in a private bar. An evening for music lovers and Lions supporters not to miss. Tickets will be £20 with all proceeds to be donated to the Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust. We can be contacted through the following: Email : contact@tickhill-lions.com Phone : 0844 963 2462 Our Website : www.tickhill-lions.com Our Facebook : facebook.com/tickhill.lions

For our meeting on Wednesday May 6th at 7.30pm at the Parish Room, Tickhill, DN11 9HZ there will be a change of emphasis. Instead of hosting a chocolatier, we shall have a presentation of various French recipes, together with tastings, prepared by members of the committee. This will be preceded by our AGM. Nominations for officers, that is for Chairman (currently Edwin Simpson), for Treasurer (currently Peter Chappell) and for Secretary (currently Janet Erridge) will be gladly received. We also need at least six others on the committee, so if anyone is willing to be co-opted, please let the Chairman know. Refreshments will be provided. Visitors are welcome at a charge of £3. For further details please contact Edwin Simpson (742714) or Janet Erridge (745281) T

Tickhill Horticultural Society The March Meeting on Thursday 26th started with a period of silence in memory of our President Ellis Baldwin, a founder member of the society, who sadly passed away on Tuesday 24th. A good number of our members attended the service of celebration of the life of Ellis in St Mary’s Church on 7th April. The March speaker, Robert Chapman from Lincoln, then demonstrated his skills in “The growing and care of Hardy Perennial Violas”. He and his wife Sue, who was unwell and did not attend, are the UK’s leading Viola specialists and will as usual, be showing at Chelsea this month. An interesting and knowledgeable speaker and an expert in bringing on excellent plants. Our May speaker is John Freer of Leeds whose subject will be “Growing Show Daffodils”. Thursday 28th in the Methodist Schoolroom starting promptly at 7.15 pm. Visitors welcome (£3) T

Tickhill Town Council - MAY 2015

The news for this month is we have an Election! Voting is on the 7th May 2015, and hopefully the council will see some new faces. I look forward to helping them settle in. Members of the Public are always welcome to attend Council meetings and pass on their news and views. It would be good to see some of you at the meetings to pass on your ideas and suggestions. The meetings are on the fourth (4th) Tuesday of the month and start at 7.00pm Remember Councillors are Volunteers. Please also put in your diary the BIG LUNCH on the 31st May 2015, 12 midday start and finishing at about 5pm. The council have booked Punch and Judy and the Band, so come along with your picnics and gazebos for a free afternoon of entertainment. All you will need to do is buy your ice-cream. Please do not bring your BBQ, our insurance will not cover this. All groups and societies are welcome to join in but no money must change hands, this afternoon is free of charge. Tickhill Town Council will be providing the tea and coffee and some biscuits too (free). If the event is rained off, like last year the Punch and Judy show will move into the Pavilion for the children and all will not be lost.

Many of you will already know but it does give me the greatest of pleasure to inform you, the Neighbourhood Plan passed the examination stage. Not only were Tickhill the first in the Doncaster Borough but I think I am correct in saying in South Yorkshire. Thanks for this must be extended to John Hoare and Rosemary Chappell for their persistence, and the Town Council for having the fore thought to take on this mammoth task. The Town Council hope it will give Tickhill a Plan to set standards by. This is backed up now by the Tickhill Asset register, so if notable sites and buildings come up for sale, the Community has the right to know and bid alongside other competitors. This is the Localism Act of 2011 coming to fruition. For bookings at the pavilion please call Jamie 07591179658. Room hire is £8.00 per hour and ideal for children’s parties. You can also join the Tennis Club and the Bowling Club; junior participation is welcomed.
