PUNKTASTIC 13.08
INTRODUCTION
TRACKLISTING
Now that summer is over and Autumn is settling in (alright, so it’s still sunny), we here at team Punktastic are looking firmly to the rest of the year with excitement.
01 Bangers - ‘Part Animal’
There’s still plenty of festivals left in 2013, and there’s also a stackload of great new music entering our ear-holes every month, so we’re not ready to give up on the year just yet.
03 Stallone - ‘In The Mire’
Our compilation this month represents a wide range of awesome UK music, and as usual we’re hoping that you’ll find a stack of new bands to keep your eyes on!
02 SCOUTS - ‘Every Day In Every Way’
04 Hindsights - ‘Heavy Head’ 05 All The Best Tapes - ‘Seven Pairs Of Scissors’ 06 PaperPlane - ‘Chariot’
From Bangers’ punk rock to F.O.E.S. dark alt rock, we think there’s plenty for everyone here, and though our turnarounds are tight on these we had a great time putting it together!
07 Dearist - ‘Get What You Want’
Have a read through the magazine to get an idea of what each band is all about, and then wrap your ears around some sweet sounds from some of the UK’s finest.
09 Drones - ‘Empty Words’
See you next month for some Fest themed madness... Tom & Team Punktastic

02. SCOUTS
01. BANGERS
Every Day In Every Way
Part Animal
Recent Beach Community signing Bangers have been doing the rounds in the UK for quite some time now, and there’s little doubt that they’re up there with the most respected and hardworking bands in the scene. The band unleash their new album ‘Crazy Fucking Dreams’ through their new label in October, and ‘Part Animal’ is the first song taken from the release. They also occupy the sub headline slot on our stage at Southsea Fest on September 14, so we can happily say we’re stoked on their next few months...

Bobby Pook’s “main” band is a rather familiar one to Punktastic readers and staff. Me Vs. Hero have been a massive part of the UK pop punk scene for a long time, and though Scouts is his ‘side project’ of sorts, you can feela similar pace and energy under the grittier exterior.
From: North West UK
We recently premiered the video for ‘Every Day In Evey Way’, so we thought that it’d be a perfect inclusion on this month’s compilation. It’s a real autumnal anthem, and one that should set the band in good shape for their forthcoming EP release.

04. HINDSIGHTS
03. STALLONE In The Mire
Appearing almost out of nowhere to announce the release of their debut album, Stallone’s hefty brand of UK hardcore is something that’s begging to be heard live. ‘In The Mire’ is the first taste of the album, and shows off the band’s fantastic technical ability and tendency to descend into chaotic, breakneck instrumental moments. There’s little doubt that you’ll be hearing plenty more from Stallone over the next few years if you’re into hardcore, so now’s a great time to get involved and throw down.
Heavy Head
From: Ash Vale, UK Genre: Hardcore Release: ‘In The Mire’ FFO: cr00sh hardcore, Holy Roar, noise facebook/thestallone
Our second Beach Community band of this month’s compilation, ‘Hindsights’ were the first band that were announced as signing to the fledgling label last month, and they took our attention immediately by dropping two great songs from their forthcoming EP, ‘The Thoughts That Weigh Me Down ‘. Their blend of the emo influenced punk rock that’s doing so well on both sides of the pond carries its own twinge of UK rock influences, and we think that the band are going to have an excellent 2014. Get stoked on it.

06. PAPERPLANE
05. ALL THE BEST TAPES
Chariot
7 Pairs Of Scissors
All Of The Best Tapes are one of the most manic punk bands we’ve heard in ages. They manage to somehow squeeze a bit of the Adebisi Shank stacks of noise into a breakneak punk rock sensibility, and there’s little doubt that their live show is just as ridiculous as their recorded music alludes it to be. ‘7 Pairs Of Scissors’ is over almost as soon as it’s begun, but it shows exactly what the band can do. The EP that’s it’s taken from is full of similar stompers too, so it’s well worth having a listen to. Loud. Repeatedly.
From: Stoke, UK Genre: Punk Release: ‘The Gnar’ FFO: The Computers, Adebisi Shank, melody blending sharply with speed facebook/allthebesttapes
There’s little doubt that PaperPlane’s recent ‘Rebuild’ EP has earned them a lot of fans they manage to bring a supremely melodic overtone to progressive instrumentation and gruff vocals, all wrapped up in a package that’s as memorable as some of the biggest rock bands on the planet. ‘Chariot’ is the band on top form, and you can’t help but feel that PaperPlane are going to be getting very, very big in the next few years. ‘Rebuild’ is excellent as well, so it’s well worth having listen to see what the fuss is all about...

08. F.O.E.S.
07. DEARIST
Sewn To The Sail & Unknown
Get What You Want
Started by Kyoto Drive frontman Adam Binder, Dearist have just unleashed their first ever song, and it’s an absolute belter. ‘Get What You Want’ comes in advance of a forthcoming, as of yet unrevealed release, and it’s got us salivating over what’s coming next. The band carry all the best bits of their early 00s emo contemporaries, and Dearist have been one of our favourite surrprises of 2013 so far.

F.O.E.S. (or Fall Of Every Sparrow if you’re feeling specific) are a band that’s barely left the incubator but are already making some rather large waves.
From: North, UK
We recently gave away a free download of the band’s ‘Ruin Lies In The Bow & The Sword’, and this new track from the band is another extremely interesting take on the post hardcore genre.
Release: TBC
The band have certain mastery of dynamic that makes them a joy to listen to, and we can’t wait to hear more from F.O.E.S. going forward.
Genre: Post Hardcore / Metal
FFO: Deftones, beards facebook/fallofeverysparrow
09. DRONES
10. MORE THAN CONQUERORS Jaw
Empty Words
We love a bit of melodic punk here at Punktastic, and Drones have been one of the most impressive new bands that we’ve heard in the genre in recent years.
From: Camberley, UK
They look set to buck the trend of skate influenced melodlic punk getting widely ignored in the UK, as their imminent ‘Free Marked Kid’ has been well received across the board and people are starting to get on board with their energetic sound.
Release: ‘Free Marked Kid’
We can’t wait for a full length from the band, and we’re sure Drones have no intentions of letting us down on that front...
Genre: Punk Rock / Pop Punk
FFO: The Story So Far, melodic punk, Hot Water Music facebook/dronesuk
When we first heard More Than Conquerors, it was on a sneaky preview of the very track that we put on this compilation. The absolutely haunting chorus walks the line between a thrown down classic and sweeping melodic masterpiece, and ‘Jaw’ in general is absolutely fantastic. More Than Conquerors have a massively bright future, and we’re sure you’ll agree with us on that after a listen to the band’s effortless approach to a very complex sound. We always get a bit excited over bands that mix genres well, and ‘Jaw’ just frankly give us the willies. Awesome stuff.

11. In Dynamics
12. THE MODERN FAREWELL The Moon
Running Hands
In Dynamics are a crossover band that, whilst hard to place, will be incredibly interesting to listen to for most fans of modern rock music.
From: Brighton, UK
The band’s latest EP ‘Circle’ shows off a great knowledge of many genres, and ‘Running Hands’ has been doing the rounds in all the right places recently.
Release: ‘Circle’
Another fine, upcoming UK band for your ears, and another one that we’re excited to keep an eye on over the next few years.
facebook/indynamics
Genre: Indie / Alt Punk
FFO: Canterbury
Although South Wales is probably a little more famous for its pop punk than its punk rock, bands like The Modern Farewell are looking to change that.
From: Cardiff, UK
Released as a standalone teaser ahead of more material, we loved ‘The Moon’ so much that we had to make sure it was included here - the band mix melodic punk up well with the scrappier elements of UK punk rock, and we’re sure it won’t be too long before one of the Cardiff PT contigent crosses paths with the band in a sweaty basement.
Release: Single
Genre: Punk Rock

Thank you for taking the time to read this magazine and listen to our 8th compilation of 2013.
13. UNIFORMS The Trouble WIth Trying
We’ve only just picked up on Scottish punk Uniforms, and decided that we’d share with you a song from their recent split with Colorado’s Loaded 45, released in May through Make-That-A-Take Records. The band are making fantastic moves North of the Border, and we’re hoping that they make it down a bit closer to team PT in the future so we can check them out live. Sometimes we feel like we don’t push nearly enough Scottish bands here at Punktastic, so it’s great to include a band like Uniforms and spread the good word!
