WELCOME TO CARMEL Named one of the best places in America to live and raise a family by Money Magazine, American City Business Journal and Forbes, Carmel is a vibrant city — a place people are excited to call home. Its safe and attractive neighborhoods, quality schools, unique retail areas and arts and cultural opportunities make Carmel one of the fastest growing communities in the nation. Located just north of Indianapolis, Carmel has grown to a population of almost 100,000 — a city in its own right. Businesses and residents locate in Carmel to enjoy the benefits of a community that has strong, responsive government leadership, an excellent tax environment, controlled growth and development, superior infrastructure systems as well as a high quality of life for families and businesses. Carmel is a welcoming community with a broad range of housing opportunities. It also has outstanding 6 / 2020 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE
parks with the 5.2-mile Monon Greenway and Monon Community Center and outdoor water park. The new City Center includes the state-of-the-art Palladium concert hall at The Center for The Performing Arts. The Tarkington and Studio Theaters also provide more entertainment options there as well. The Arts & Design District focuses on the visual and design arts and is home to the Indiana Design Center. Joining those two areas together is Midtown — a new development where its public plaza fills with people playing games, visiting or catching sports or movies on the big outdoor screen. Carmel also has top-ranked education. The Carmel Clay school system has 11 elementary schools, three middle schools and one high school. Carmel and the surrounding community has several outstanding parochial and independent elementary and secondary schools.

CarSnoop: New App Takes the Time & Stress Out of New Car Buying Writer / Jon Shoulders Photographer / Michael Durr
Cole Keesling knew as far back as 1997 that the traditional approach to car buying could be improved upon. He was determined to establish a service that could eliminate the hassle of long waits at dealerships, and backand-forth haggling. “I knew there had to be a better way,” says Keesling, who has extensive experience as a new and used auto sales manager and finance manager. “I started out a few years
ago by talking to people needing cars and getting information on their trade-in vehicle and then talking to multiple dealers on their behalf to get offers so they wouldn’t have to have that hassle. I did about 100 deals manually without any sort of app, and now we have our app, CarSnoop, that makes the entire buying process that much easier.” Users can stay home and download the CarSnoop app on their smartphone and enter details for the vehicle they wish to lease or buy. The app finds customers a range of new car offers from CarSnoop’s 10 / 2020 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE
exclusive network of Indiana dealers, who can then bid on the customer’s new vehicle need. It’s all 100% anonymous — dealers have no information on potential buyers beyond the city they live in, and as such, customers are not bombarded with emails and sales calls. After customers choose the right deal for them, all the necessary paperwork is prepared so that the customer only needs to sign and pick up their new car. Even those trading in their used vehicle can do so through CarSnoop’s hassle-free process,
which involves uploading photos and entering a few basic pieces of information like mileage, condition and vehicle identification number. A refundable $100 deposit is required once a customer has searched the app for their preferred vehicle attributes and is ready to view the best offers. Once the transaction is complete, the deposit is refunded. The final paperwork and delivery steps can be completed at a dealership, or the dealer can deliver the documents and car to the customer’s preferred location. “Our number-one priority is the user experience — we want the user to feel the process we’ve built makes sense, is easy to understand, and is comfortable,” says Keesling, adding that CarSnoop is a locallyowned company based in Fortville. The CarSnoop app is currently only available for Indiana customers, and Keesling says the company —which also includes Keesling’s wife Janel, who serves as brand champion, Vice President Shawn Manion, and Dealership Sales Manager Chris Evans — plans to expand into the Louisville and Cincinnati market by the summer.
“We want 100 dealers per market area of about one million people,” Keesling says. “We’re going to do about 60% of our business from the core dealers - Chevrolet, Toyota, Ford, Honda and Chrysler Dodge Jeep. We’re currently doing new cars only because we don’t want condition to be an objection at delivery. We will be moving to certified preowned options in the future as well.” Keesling says a top issue throughout the auto industry in recent years is a desire on the part identity,” he says. “On the app, you’re building of buyers for alternative methods for buying your exact car, right down to the color.” cars that reduce direct dealership involvement. The reasons Keesling wanted to launch “I think we’re ahead of the curve with the CarSnoop in the Central Indiana market way the market is going,” he says. “It’s our are simple. job to educate the buyer, and everybody is able to chat directly with us. When “I’ve spent 22 years in the car business, with customers are chatting with CarSnoop, they most of that in the Indianapolis market, and are literally speaking with me and Shawn. we’re all from here — we couldn’t think of a Also, if they want to do a test drive they can better place to start,” he says. “We wanted to do that and ask not to be entered into the get behind the Indiana tech movement. The dealership’s system. There are virtual test relationships with dealers that Shawn, Chris drives online now, too.” and I have here are great. We really believe we’re going to change the way people lease Keesling stresses that CarSnoop is a buying or buy new cars, doing it from right here in app rather than a shopping app. Indianapolis.” “We encourage the customer to do their homework on the vehicle they want to lease or buy elsewhere, and then come to CarSnoop where they can protect their 2020 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE / 11

PAUL SHOOPMAN: SHOOPMAN HOMES Carmel, IN 833-525-3466 waterfrontofwestclay.com

Paul Shoopman, president of Paul Shoopman Home Building Group, Inc., was a freshman in high school when he started his career in the home building business as a framing crew member. After gaining experience in the industry all through high school, shortly after graduation he built his first custom ranch home in Center Grove. “The house and its one-acre lot sold quickly for a whopping $34,500,” Shoopman says. Since then, Shoopman, who acts as builder, developer and designer for each project, has gone on to become a leading homebuilder in Central Indiana, and over the past five decades has constructed nearly 10,000 new homes in Zionsville, Westfield, Noblesville, Fishers, Greenwood, Brownsburg, Avon, Greenfield, Indianapolis, Danville, Carmel, and many offsite projects including the new Waterfront of West Clay. “I’ve also personally gone on nearly two million onsite construction site visits for satisfied families with the same love and attention I had as a young man,” Shoopman adds. “I’ve always loved the smell of wood. I still do today.”
Throughout his career, Shoopman has held true to the same guiding principles — to prioritize & value his employees and partners and to be loyal to those around him. That’s partly why last year his company was awarded the Better Business Bureau’s (BBB’s) Business of Integrity Award, which recognizes a business with fewer than 11 employees and displays an outstanding level of ethics and integrity in all business dealings.
the state to have earned 2-10’s Diamond Builder Award for superior craftsmanship and customer service. He attributes his success to the loyal and solid relationships he has created along the way — not only with clients but also with vendors and contractors he works with regularly.
“I have been with valued partners for as long as I have been in business,” he says. “In fact, I can’t think of any other builder who has the kind of support and long-standing “We are thrilled to have been named the BBB’s relationships I have with many employees, subcontractors and suppliers.” Business of Integrity winner,” Shoopman says. “From the start, we have aimed to hold For more information on Paul Shoopman ourselves to the highest standards in home Home Building Group, located at 11685 quality, customer satisfaction, and, above all, West Rd. in Carmel, call 833-525-3466, integrity & fairness.” email paul@shoopmanhomes.com, or visit In addition, Shoopman was the recipient them online at waterfrontofwestclay.com. of the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash Award by Indiana Gov. SPRING LAWN CARE ESSENTIALS April is upon us and there are certain things we want to do with the lawn in April.
CRABGRASS CONTROL
If you have not gotten your crabgrass controls down, this needs to be done. Once this window is missed it is difficult to get on top of it. It was a pretty mild winter and as of this writing March has been relatively warm. The soil temperatures are increasing fairly fast. Each crabgrass plant can produce 150,000 seeds. And when one kills the plant it is brown, unsightly and the carcass of the plant remains for several weeks. Along edges, park strips with debris in them, and areas that get weed eated too short or driven over are susceptible to crabgrass.
SEEDING
This is a time I consider seeding in shady areas only. The tree leaves are not quite out and the ground is clean and the seed has a good chance to germinate in the spring. I do not like to seed in sunny areas as there are a few problems with spring seeding lawns. As we have cool season grasses here, the
organic approach
new plants will be juvenile and much of the energy goes to the blade in the spring. I prefer to seed sunny areas in the early fall/late summer. The plant will germinate and, as fall approaches, the physiology of the plant will begin to send energy to the root system which will then develop over winter and in the early spring allowing for a mature plant in the summer which can survive the summer.

MOWING
The lawn is coming out of its winter sleep and mowing will begin to occur. Sharpen your blades. This will help reduce shredding the turf and keep unwanted pathogens out of the turf. This helps keep the turf plant healthy and reduces diseases. As the lawn comes out of dormancy the majority of the energy will be used to create cell elongation and the turf will grow quickly.
BROADLEAF WEED CONTROL & FERTILIZER
Broadleaf weeds are beginning to show up. Dandelions, clover, plantain, and other weeds begin to germinate and they are controlled with post emergent weed controls. If you use a granular product purchased at a store, these products generally need to be applied when the turfgrass is moist. At this time, a high amount of nitrogen is not necessarily required. The plant will have its own energy and the soil will become alive with millions of reactions releasing nutrients.

LEGACY BIBLE CHURCH 2140 Greenfield Ave. Noblesville, IN 46060 (317) 764-2156 legacybiblechurchindiana.org
LEGACY BIBLE CHURCH CELEBRATES FIVE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY, LOOKS FORWARD TO NEW FACILITY On Sunday morning, March 1, 2015, six inches of snow covered the ground in Indianapolis. Many churches were closed due to the weather. But 52 people braved the snow that cold morning to form a new church community in Hamilton County: Legacy Bible Church.

Dr. Kunda is committed to in-depth biblical preaching that emphasizes the essentials of the Christian faith, while recognizing that all who know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord are brothers and sisters in Christ, regardless of their church affiliation. He is a firm believer that great music, active congregational participation and excellence in preaching scripture are all vital components of Christian worship. Legacy Bible Church celebrated its five-year anniversary on March 1, 2020. Now in its sixth year, the church sees residents travel from five Indiana counties to worship on Sunday mornings.
In the fall of 2018, Legacy Bible Church purchased 17 acres of land at 13490 Howe Road in Fishers. In May 2020, groundbreaking will be held to build a new, permanent worship facility, which will attach to the house already on the land. The house will be converted to office and education space. A special weekend of celebration is planned for May 1-2, 2021, when the new church building is scheduled to open. “The construction of our new facility represents the growing desire for Christians to not only share their faith, but also to enhance their worship experience” Dr. Kunda says. “The facilities will allow more classrooms for Sunday school for all ages and will also offer a larger sanctuary to accommodate our growing congregation.” One of Legacy Bible Church’s tenants is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with their neighbors, city, state, country and around
the world. Since its inception, Legacy has supported local charities like Wheeler Mission. In 2019, the church formalized its missions efforts with the creation of the Global Outreach (GO) Committee, which directs activities and funding for missions activities. Legacy Bible Church supports ministry in five states and nine countries. Last year, a group of Legacy members spent a day in Elkhart, Indiana, assembling shortwave radios for people to hear the gospel in Liberia, Africa. Legacy will sponsor its first international missions effort this summer. A group of Legacy members, through Reach to Romania, will spend 14 days in Hateg and other towns and villages, assisting in a Christian summer camp and various activities for foster children and orphans.
“After my first visit, I knew this was where I belonged,” Tolen says. “The service enhances my worship, and the people are very friendly.” Dr. Kunda adds, We encourage any and all to come and share our worship experience at our current location on Greenfield Avenue, and to grow with us as we prepare to move to our new space on Howe Road.” For more information, visit Legacy Bible Church online at legacybiblechurchindiana. org or give them a call at 317-764-2156.
Church member Elaine Tolen says she started attending after hearing about the biblically sound preaching and the traditional music.
