FRIDAY
People of Tomorrow,
THE MADNESS
HAS BEGUN
Even though Tomorrowland itself is yet to open its gates, the weekend is already off to a smoldering start. On Thursday, the sun shone and faces in the vicinity of De Schorre smiled. A city of tents called DreamVille was erected, involving a lot of fiddling with lines, laughs and poles. Once all that was said and done it was time to head off and start the dance at the Gathering. Revelers were welcomed to a familiar sun-and-moon stage, vibrantly yellow on the left and a calm nightly blue on the right. On it, StuBru contest winner Ravenous was the one who roused the sound system into action. During the afternoon, the fields filled up and while some people took a breather at their camps, the lines for food and drinks at the Marketplace lengthened. Provided with nourishment, everyone was drawn back towards the Gathering stage where, by the time The Oddword blasted out the final rays of daylight, a raging crowd had formed. Under the careful guidance of GHO$T and Dimitri, Mike & Yves, the final hours of the night were danced away – and the magic of Tomorrow welcomed back onto DreamVille.
ARE YOU Ready? Set? RAVE! To dance or not to dance. That’s not much of a question, is it? The Gathering may have been awesome, but the real madness starts today. Tomorrowland kicks off with Daybreak Sessions, which means three full hours of Eric Prydz at the mainstage. For those who are more trance-minded, the Trance Addict stage offers a broad range of artists like Andrew Rayel, Menno de Jong and of course Paul Oakenfold himself. At
Mad Decent twerking is mandatory, as Dillon Francis, Trippy Turtle and Diplo take stage, under accompaniment of Zeds Dead, Flosstradamus and many more. The more underground techno vibes come from Carl Cox & friends, with Loco Dice, John Digweed and Carl Cox himself. Is that all? No, it isn’t! Steve Aoki is bringing along The Chainsmokers, Benny Benassi, the boys
from Yellow Claw and Belgian celebrity Coone. As you may have noticed, there is just too much to see, to hear, to admire, to dance to. You can’t catch them all, but where your favourites are concerned, you can damn well try. Be sure to check out the timetable on page 24, where you can find all the details about the multitude of musical styles that you may encounter today.
DreamVille Drinkers,
ATTENTION!
At DreamVille, look out for Cava’s Celebration Bubbles stand. With your bracelet you can get a free glass of Cava, in honour of Tomorrowland’s anniversary. Cheers!
Ladies & Gentlemen,
The sun is shining! Today is going to be hot. It’s going to be
Yellow Claw’s quest for glory
burning, in fact. If you don’t want to turn out a delicious red lobster, be sure to turn to page 11.

TALK OF TOMORROW
They traveled all the way from France to Boom, set up their tents yesterday and now, on this truly beautiful morning, we overhear Zoe Soisbelle and Fabrice du Paris talk and dream about their first day in paradise.
On this day, 7 years ago...
“Bonjour Zoe,” Fabrice says as he stretches himself, takes a look at that brightly shining sun and puts on his flip-flops. Zoe: “Good morning Fabrice. Have you slept well? It’s been quite hot in my tent.” “I bet it was, you hottie!” Fabrice winks. You can take the man out of France, but you can’t take France out of the man. Zoe gets a little blush on her already tanned cheeks, but pretends she is immune to all of Fabrice’s flattering remarks and gets straight to business: “So, that Gathering party yesterday was quite the bomb, but what madness will we be getting ourselves into
today, Fabrice?” Fabrice stares into the sky, he pretends to be pondering something – but what Zoe doesn’t know is that he’s already got the whole weekend planned out, because he knew Zoe likes a man that has his stuff together. “Well, ma chère Zoe, after we’ve eaten some freshly baked baguettes at the DreamVille Bakery, I will safely guide you over the immense One World bridge and as we enter the festival site all you need to do is follow my lead and we will enter a world of love, rave and happiness together.” You see, this kind of romantic outbursts is exactly why
the ladies faint by the mere idea of a French garçon, boys! But Zoe – ever pragmatic – keeps on playing hard to get and rapidly replies: “I can guide myself just fine, thank you. After all, shouldn’t we take a shower and get some sunscreen first?” Fabrice abides by Zoe’s wishes and actually starts to enjoy this odd little dynamic they have going on. But when the time is right, he will be ready to swoop her off her feet with a romantic ceremony surrounded by thousands of flowers at the Wall Of Love. He’s quite sure Zoe’s heart will melt instantly. After all, today is a gift.
A second festival day was added to Tomorrowland, making for twice as much magic! Read more about the History of Tomorrow on page 29.

FRIDAY
JULY 18TH 2014
The Journey to Tomorrow People of Tomorrow, the search for happiness has commenced! As you carried your keys to the lovely town of Boom, you took the very first step into the universe that is Tomorrowland. For many of you it has been a very long trip, crossing borders, oceans and even continents to get here. Hailing from every corner of the world, you each bring something unique to this extravaganza of music, love and happiness. For the last part of the journey, our reporters rode along, by plane and by train. Here are the stories of the weary but excited faces coming in from Paris and Frankfurt. “I spent three years saving up for this at home in Switzerland,” Yannick says. Together with Eric he’s more than ready to discover the madness awaiting at Tomorrowland. Eric: “It’s not just a festival, it’s an experience. We spent days watching all the aftermovies there are.” The interview is cut short by the gate-party at the airport in Frankfurt. Beautifully dressed hostesses are dancing on a dance floor built just for this occasion, and a fast-growing crowd quickly joins them. Flags from nations all over the world are laid out, proudly showing where everyone comes from. Yannick tries to find the words to describe what the magic of Tomorrowland is, but his answer gets lost in the rave. Only happy faces step on board the waiting party-plane, which will take them all one step closer to their final destination. It’s sunny in Paris as the Tomorrowland train arrives. Sunny, and a bit sweaty. Garde du Nord is loaded with people heading for their day job or their friends downtown. Amidst all this chaos Kyle, Zach, Mike and Kaleigh stand together, Tomorrowland train ticket in hand and ready to board. They’re all from Canada, but only just. Mike and Kaleigh have been traveling throughout Southeast Asia for the past three months, and will be returning after Tomorrowland. Why go that distance, just for a weekend? “We’ve been trying so hard to get tickets for the last two years. So when we got them, we just had to.” Kyle and Zach were persuaded by friends, who claimed that “Tomorrowland is the happiest place on Earth. The amount of details, like the bracelet, tickets, the Tomorrowland beers, is just absurd.” When asked what they all are looking forward to the most, there was just too much to choose from. “Let’s say we’re hoping to walk around with a smile from ear to ear, the whole weekend long,” they conclude before stepping onto the train.

Poulcet, Moucket, Donna and Raoul started their trip in India. “We’re here to see all the beautiful things that make up Tomorowland. It’s our first time, and we can’t wait to see all the big names on stage,” Raoul says. “Last year we went to Ibiza and had a wonderful time. It convinced us all that we just had to visit Tomorrowland.” With a certain sparkle in their eyes the others agree. The long wait is over at last. “Without a doubt this will be the most epic thing we’ve ever done,” Poulcet claims. During this interview the party that began at the gate has reached new heights. Literally, as it’s in a plane, but also because of Yves V, who’s warming up the lucky few on board. The plane wiggles to the beat, as if it’s enjoying all the fun inside as well.
FLYING FACTS 1,128 Partypeople from Geneva are visiting Tomorrowland by plane. Flights have been booked from all over the world, even including Mauritius, Nigeria and the Isle of Man. There were 113 party flights for a total of 247 party hours at 10,000 feet of altitude!
Meanwhile on the train, best friends Angus and Jimmy from Australia are enjoying a beer and relaxing for a moment. They’ve been traveling Europe after finishing school. “We’ve worked our asses off for six months to save money for this trip. Tomorrowland definitely will be one of the highlights. It’s our first time going to such a major event. The best thing so far? The box with our bracelets. It was magical, turning the key and not knowing what’s inside.” A few carriages further on, Timo and Bastian have started their own preparty. Music’s blasting through a portable speaker and the booze has been opened up. “We come from Switzerland. We’ve got some major festivals over there, but mainly hiphop and pop. There isn’t much of a scene as far as electro and house goes.” More and more people come to see where this ‘train rave’ is taking place, and social as the Swiss are, everyone is welcomed with a beer and a hug.

A voice crackles through the speakers of the train. “Ladies and gentlemen, we’re about to arrive at Brussel. Don’t forget your luggage, and have an amazing time at Tomorrowland!” Lucien, a Frenchman living in London, can barely contain his enthusiasm. “Finally! After 5 years of waiting, trying to get tickets, I’m here!” He drinks down the last sip of wine in his glass and starts getting his stuff. Outside the train, people are guided directly to their buses. It’s a sight to behold, hundreds of bouncing and cheering people making their way through the station at Brussels, which normally only sees the grim faces of people heading for work. Today, it’s a part of the madness. And it genuinely seems to brighten up a bit inside the terminals – as if there was some magic in the air. It’s the same kind of extraordinary vibe that pours out of the party-plane that has touched down in Brussels, at the same time the train arrived. David and Dimitri out of Germany shared a ride to the airport but didn’t know each other. Already, however, they seem to be the best of friends. “I’ve heard so much about the festival, so my expectations are high. But I have no doubt it will top them all, and then some. It’s the anniversary, so I know it’s going to be massive” says Dimitri. So the journey to Tomorrow continues. From train and plane to bus, to DreamVille – and on to a weekend of happiness!

Welcome to
Belgium (Joy, Marijke & Leena) “Last year we tried to get tickets with six computers but we weren’t very lucky. This year we are! So many different nationalities, we just arrived today and everybody was immediately helping us with the tent.”
The world’s most multicultural camping Are you all settled at the campsite? Had a good night of sleep? Let’s hope so, because the real party hasn’t even started yet. After the slamming Gathering last night you’re hopefully warmed up and ready for the first day of Tomorrowland! The sight of all the Dreamvillers carrying bags and putting up their tents with big smiles on their faces was a pleasure. It’s a pretty tough job in these tropical temperatures, but hey; sweat dries quickly in the sun! Always stay positive! Or just fill up

A short walk around DreamVille and you will have met people from every continent except Antarctica. All of them are here to have a good time, so don’t hesitate to take a walk and make some friends when you come back home tonight.

Belgium (Megane, Olivia, Camille & Florianne) “Ca fait des années qu’on attend ce moment. On y est enfin! Et on compte bien en profiter un maximum!”
Venezuela (José) and Mexico (Juan & Rodrigo) “We have been dreaming about visiting Tomorrowland for years! We didn’t manage to get tickets for the earlier editions, but we ensured ourselves by buying the Global Journey package this year. José even has Tomorrowland stickers on his car!”
Denmark / Argentina (Natalia) “I finally made it to Tomorrowland! We came all the way to Belgium by car and stopped in Germany to watch the World Cup final. So after some tears we continued our journey to start this party. ‘Ayer es historia, hoy es un regalo, mañana es un misterio!’”
United States (Kenny, Rob & Derek) “It’s about time! Once a year this greatest event in the world just appears out of nowhere. We love how it brings all the different cultures together. Everybody is here to party and have a good time, that’s what we love.”

Croatia (Sanja & Katarina) “We’ve heard a lot about Tomorrowland and saw the aftermovies of course. The people here seem great, they all look so nice and everybody seems to be so friendly. And we love Tiësto, Hardwell and Coone!”
Spain (Angel, Carlos, Alfonso & Cristina) “The organization of Tomorrowland deserves a big compliment. Every little part of our journey was perfect so far. We had a great flight with the People of Tomorrow and the service at the airport was also great. This is really a dream come true.”
ALL THE WAY FROM Israel
“We heard all sorts of rumors about people from Israel who couldn’t make it to the festival, because of the situation there at the moment. Luckily for us it wasn’t that bad at all. At the airport in Israel we didn’t notice anything strange at all, to be honest, even though some people said we couldn’t leave the country. We had a great flight and carefree arrival and we are very, very happy to be here now. With our country in this complex conflict it’s better not to be in Israel. A good reason to party extra hard!”
LOVE TOMORROW Switzerland (Marwin, Mirko, Migi, Flo, Ben, Dario & Ivan) “This festival has the best line-up ever! For all three days. That’s one reason to visit this festival, and to spread love around the world. And certain favours from girls. ‘Chuchichäschtli love!’”

All drinks at DreamVille are served in EcoCups, which cost one and a half token apiece. This is done in order to reduce plastic waste – a serious concern for the planet’s conservation. You can exchange your cup for a token at the exchange points or the district houses. Alternatively, buy a new drink and hand in your old bottles & cups in exchange for new ones. Either way, you are doing your part for the protection of Tomorrow.

Medical Information Danced too hard at the Gathering? Got a blister? Medical supplies are available at the pharmacy in the town near Tomorrowland: Boom Pharma, Antwerpsestraat 6, Boom. The pharmacy is opened on Friday from 9 – 12 am and 1.30 –
7 pm, and on Saturday from 9 – 12 am. If you need immediate medical attention, however, do not hesitate to go to the nearest First Aid point on DreamVille or Tomorrowland. And remember: always keep an eye out for your friends!
Today will be hot, just like you people 1: Protection, protection, protection! Don’t forget to put on your sunscreen. If you don’t have any, be sure to borrow or buy some – it is absolutely necessary. 2: Hydration. Make sure to drink enough water, don’t be afraid to visit the refresh points every hour. If you keep on dancing you’ll sweat more than you can drink. Your enthusiasm at the Gathering last night will be rewarded today! The sun will rise again, pushing the heat into tropical temperatures. Here are some tips to prevent sunstroke and survive this bloody hot Friday.
3: Shadow. De Schorre offers beautiful places to chill out in the shade – use them! It will help prevent you from overheating and keep you going for longer. 4: Clothing. Although we entirely endorse wearing as little as possible, don’t walk around naked all day. The best way to prevent sunburn is by wearing a shirt. 5: Smile. Because everything is easier with a happy face!
The Wall of Love This weekend all of us have a whole lot of love to offer. But for those of you that share the bounce of every heartbeat with a special someone, every single day of every single year, Floor came up with The Wall Of Love. They invite you to come over and present yourself in an overflow of beautiful and colourful flowers for a photo-shoot that will make you feel as if you were walking through the garden of Eden! Would you like to pose with your one and only true love – your ‘poepie’, if you will – your BFF, or just your mates or the ladies? No problem. And in addition to the photo-shoot opportunity, they have a hairstylist ready to design the perfect flower look to go with your outfit. Floor’s Wall of Love will be open and welcoming you to their flowery brand of happiness all day.
FLOATING Reflections
& UNITY Portrait Tomorrowland has always supported art in lots of different ways. This year creative partner Canon invited artist Wim Tellier to make two art projects which are fed by photography. The idea behind these projects is to push creativity and imaging technology a giant step forward, enabling you to capture your unforgettable moments of Tomorrow. ‘Floating Reflections’ is an organic motion art impression, best seen from the new One World bridge. Wim will capture your happiest experiences with a Canon EOS camera and fish-eye lens. These pieces of art will be printed at the Tomorrowland grounds on Canon wide format printers at 1.5m by 1.5m. Mounted on rafts, the posters will be added daily to a growing exposition near the bridge throughout both weekends. The project will be a sediment of the magical moments that you live through this weekend. For ‘Unity Portrait’ forty-five full-frame Canon EOS cameras will be mounted on a rig to take one single picture with all of them at once. This results in a photograph, taken from within the mainstage, in which every single person can be recognized. There will be preannounced moments to take the unity portraits, one on every day. They will then be published at tomorrowland.com/unityportrait in an especially developed app. You can find & tag yourself and your friends, and share the souvenir with your loved ones who weren’t there. Don’t miss this moment, and strike a pose!
Camping GRILLMEISTER This year Lidl will be looking for the greatest master of the grill at the DreamVille campsite. How can you conquer the title of the one and only true Tomorrowland Grillmeister? Easy: just head over to the butcher shop, wrap one of the BBQ aprons around your neck, grab the grill tools, let the charcoal scorch and cook up the juiciest slice of meat you can. Post your picture on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook using the #Grillmeister hashtag and you might just become that one lucky griller to win an exclusive chopper flight over the grounds of Tomorrowland on Sunday!

At a festival, you can easily get caught up in the moment. Whether you’re dancing to your favorite DJ, or drinking beer with friends, one of the possibilities is that you’ll run into someone beautiful, sweet and sexy. Together you feel a certain tension, and before you know it you’re laying in a tent (your own or some random one) making love like the world’s going to end tomorrow. Good for you! To help you out a bit, here are some sexy moves to try out in the limited space at your disposal. After all, it doesn’t matter how big it is – it’s how you use it.
classic: The mere fact that something’s been done before doesn’t mean it’s no fun to do again. Case in point: missionary position, with the guy on top. You don’t have to move much, one inflatable mattress is more than enough and you can stare into each other’s eyes the entire time! Win-win-win!

BLUE FLAME
DIM MAK
This summer QULT is taking some major steps forward. Besides hostings at Defqon.1, Qontinent, Mysteryland and Q-BASE, they appear at Tomorrowland for the first time. What once started as an experiment has become a committed movement with its own dedicated following. And they know how to create a friendly atmosphere. Their so-called subground sound can be described as a fusion between electro, hardstyle and techno. It combines the energy and drive of the harder styles with the more modest tempo and groovy elements out of other genres. Interested? Come to the bamboo creature by the maze – stage number 7. Join the QULT!
Think it, say it, do it! That’s the vision Blue Flame keeps in mind when producing new concepts. With over a hundred and fifty nights for more than 100,000 fans a year they are the biggest nightlife institution in Belgium. They mix up everything from hip-hop to house, RnB to pop and electro to dance. Blue Flame claim to have the hottest Thursday night in Antwerp city and the possibility of them tearing the mirror tent to pieces is entirely real. With three years of Tomorrowland already under their belt and a varied line-up, there’s more than enough reason to check out stage 2.

DE SCHORRE BOOM BELGIUM
Since this label’s inception in 1996, it has thrived on its commitment to preserve a boundless, forwardthinking music community. Everything about Dim Mak stems from founder Steve Aoki’s ‘do it yourself’ ethos, morphing and moving with the industry’s everchanging tides. The boss is known for throwing cake at his crowds as well as for his music. His companions Felix Cartal and Autoerotique have created an electro anthem especially for Tomorrowland that’s sure to ‘Heat’ up the dancefloor. Belgian hardstyle icon Coone will also perform at this year’s Dim Mak stage. Look it up at number 4 on the map!

ERIC PRYDZ HERALDS THE BEGINNING OF TOMORROW For the first time this year, each day of the festival will begin with a Daybreak Session. One artist with three hours to fill at the mainstage: that’s the recipe for a great start to the day. On Friday, you’ll be welcomed by none other than Eric Prydz. Eric is a mysterious figure. Even though he has had his fair share of worldwide hits, the Swedish producer shies away from the attention of the media. Whereas many artists go on worldwide tours, give as many interviews as they can and are very visible on social media, Eric chooses not to. He hasn’t given an interview for almost 6 years. Instead, he retreats to his studio to spend his time and brilliance on running his well renowned labels Pryda and Mouseville. This unique approach to the life of a musician, making hits but keeping himself

away from the media, has provided Eric with the international allure of a superstar DJ, while earning respect from the more underground scene as well. His very first, very own artist album is rumoured to be released very soon. Until then, we can enjoy tracks like Pjanoo and Proper Education, a rework of Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall. The latter even got Prydz nominated for a Grammy, and the music video got adopted by Greenpeace as part of one of their campaigns. Join Eric at Daybreak Sessions today!

Yellow Claw FOCUS ON MAGICAL FRIDAY Dim Mak 22:30 - 23:30 soil after conquering every stage the Netherlands has to offer. Recently they gave away a hell of a show in Las Vegas. “That was a really mind-blowing experience. Magical, even. The sun just went down, the lightshow was spot on and we had trouble seeing the end of the crowd, somewhere far away in the back. There was so damn much love at that moment, Bizzey just had to do a stage dive at the end of our set.”
Veni, vidi, party. Yellow Claw comes, sees, conquers and leaves the party only when the last man standing can’t stand no more. The Netherlands has already succumbed to their ferocious quest for glory, and now they’ve set their sights on the rest of the world. DJ Nizzle, Jim Aasgier and MC Bizzey started only three years ago with a successful residency in Amsterdam’s Jimmy Woo nightclub, and can now be admired on the biggest stages worldwide, with Tomorrowland as an absolute highlight!
The three friends are as musically diverse as it gets. “Basically, we’re just doing our thing. Somehow that works really well. We’ll continue to play everything that sounds awesome, regardless of genre.” Recently they even invited gabber veteran Distortion (Rotterdam Terror Corps) for a gig. “He’s a true legend, and has been for the last two decades. Tracks made by Rotterdam Terror Corps have influenced our sound in so many ways, so when a festival gives us an all-clear, it only makes sense to invite an act like him.”
“There are a few places of pilgrimage in the world for those who love dance music. Tomorrowland is such a sacred place. For us personally it means a lot to return here, as it was the first event of this stature where we got a spot to play our music. Our set was sick, the crowd was sick, the delicious lobster we ate afterwards was sick.” Yellow Claw is quickly becoming a household name for everyone into partying hard. They’re known for being eclectic, energetic, a guarantee for mayhem, and for thinking outside the box. A very big part of their success can be traced back to the high amount of interaction they have with their fans while playing. “If you ask us, the key to success lies in a couple of things. Work very, very hard, never listen to negative fools and always (always!) try to improve yourself in every way possible.” Focus, determination, a clear vision of how music should be played; Yellow Claw has got it all. And they risk it all to deliver the highest quality of music and that true party feeling, time and time again.
Keeping it fun while being together on tour all the time can be a bit tricky. The friends have found a way to keep things flowing on a personal level. “We’re completely different characters within the group. Socially, but also professionally we’ve found some sort of way to deal with this diversity. Even to make it into a strength, rather than a source for bickering. We’re a bit like the Spice Girls, with Bizzey being Sporty Spice, Nils Baby Spice and Jim Posh Spice.”
“Our strategy to take over the world is simply by making the best music.”
Amidst all the touring and producing, they made time to prepare for Tomorrowland of course. “We have made a kind of unofficial anthem, together with Alvaro, called ‘FLAGS UP’. And we’re going to stop eating days in advance, so that we can dive into all the magnificent lobster!”
“Our strategy to take over the world is simply by making the best music, to surprise the crowd every time with unique sets and to take along our musical friends while we’re at it.” Yellow Claw has set foot on foreign

Mainstage 23:30
Armin van Buuren’s set last year at the mainstage has grown out to be a legendary one. Not only because of the music, but mainly because of his emotional announcement that he just became father to a son. He dedicated his entire set to his newborn, a gesture that moved many viewers to tears.
This year Armin returns once again to do what he does best, to take you on a trip to paradise. “It’s not just love for music, it’s passion. It goes beyond liking, and beyond a hobby, it’s about a way of living. Music is essential to my life,” he has stated. This dedication has brought him to the very
top of the worldwide dance movement, leading the way as the #1 ambassador of trance. With his acclaimed ‘Armin Only’ tours he’s taking his events to a whole new level, with mindboggling visuals and decorations. Enough said. We’ll see you there on Friday!
Dillon Francis
Carl Cox
Coone
Dillon Francis does not give a fuck or shit: ‘I.D.G.A.F.O.S’, he calls it. Dillon does everything he wants to, which is mainly producing absolutely mindblowing moombahton (or other genres whenever he sees fit). The prankster from L.A. also does whatever you want him to, if you pay him. For a mere $750 he’ll do your taxes. For $300, he’ll prank call your mom in the middle of the night. He’ll even enlist in the army if you spend a million dollars. Why? Because I.D.G.A.F.O.S! That careless attitude, that free-minded spirit is one of the most charming things about Dillon, and can be seen in his performances as he tears the place up without any regards for the stiff rules of society. Mayhem may be the closest thing to describing Dillon on stage. Expect nothing. Expect everything. Let’s go one deeper.
Oh yes oh yes! Carl Cox is back once again and bringing a bunch of equally artistic friends along! The little boy who first laid hands on a set of turntables at the age of 15 has evolved into a sincere and powerful musical maestro. After meddling with disco and hip-hop first, he got into Chicago house when it didn’t even have a name yet. In the ‘80s he was on the forefront of the exploding British rave scene. In 1991 his debut, I Want You, was released on Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto imprint. A while later, Carl retreated into the more underground club-scene, staying true to the techno he helped create. “Techno drives home somewhere. It takes you to an element of surprise, not knowing where you’re going. It’s scary, but wonderful at the same time,” he says. Nowadays Carl has a loyal fanbase and sells out major venues while also focusing on smaller, more underground parties. Let’s go on a journey with Carl. Oh yes!
Few Belgian artists are of such international stature as Coone. Only in his twenties, he managed to sell out one of Belgium’s biggest venues, blasting away in front of 10,000 hard dance minded people with Coone & the Gang. His roots firmly based in hardstyle, he does not shy away from working with artists outside the scene, like Steve Aoki. He’s even signed at Dim Mak, Aoki’s party empire. Combining the power of Dim Mak with the reputation of his own label Dirty Workz, Coone is taking his sound worldwide at incredible pace. Nowadays he’s touring the United States, Australia, Europe; the whole planet, really. Coone lives for the music. He lives the music. He is the music. And that may well be the reason he’s so damn much fun to see live on stage. Strap on your dancing shoes real tight, it’s going to go hard, harder, hardest!

Âme
We Play House 14:00 Kristian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann are Âme. Âme is more than just good music, Âme is the future of electronic music. Instead of looking back at the past for inspiration, Kristian and Frank have made it their mission to provide you with sounds that you have never heard before. Filling up the unheard empty spaces others leave behind, they dare to venture across boundaries set by genres, time, instruments or ideas. They combine music with otherworldly visuals in their live-act. Also, they’re part of the driving force behind
the Innervisions family. This imprint is famous for their level of quality control, resulting in only five or six releases each year. Another notable thing is that those releases come with elaborate and unexpectedly beautiful artwork. The internet plays a crucial part within Innervisions, as they sell their music via their webshop, alongside fashionable clothing and books like Tobias Rapp’s Lost and Sound.
Charlie Lownoise & Mental Theo I Love The ‘90s 23:00
When you’re thinking of the infamous ‘90s, Charlie Lownoise & Mental Theo are certainly among the first names that come to mind. Who doesn’t know the melody of Wonderful Days, for instance? Together they produced some of the most famous happy hardcore tracks, but are also devoted to the harder gabber sound. Charlie & Theo always perform with a smile on their faces, bringing happiness to the dancefloor as
joyful as a sunny day, with rainbows, unicorns and hard-hitting kicks. Whether you were born early enough to have experienced the ‘90s to the fullest, or only after that, it doesn’t matter at the I Love the ‘90s stage. Young or old, Charlie Lownoise & Mental Theo are sure to provide you with familiar beats to lose yourself to.
Wolfpack
Mainstage 15:00 Sometimes everything just falls into place. For the Belgian duo Wolfpack, that moment occurred during their debut at Tomorrowland in 2011. With a smashing set they swept Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike off their feet, leaving them wondering where the hell these two guys came from. It didn’t really matter, ‘cause as soon as they could, Dimitri & Mike signed up Wolfpack on their own imprint Smash the House. Two years later, and Wolfpack is still going as strong as at that special first performance. They’ve released club hits like
Paul Oakenfold Trance-Addict 20:00
Paul is on a mission. A ‘Trance Mission’. The legendary producer has returned to his very roots once again to spread the so-called ‘Full of Luoro’ sound to the remotest corners of the globe. ‘Trance Mission’ combines the very best in trance with stunning visuals, making it far more than just a cool guy behind fancy turntables. It’s a sophisticated venture into one of the bestloved genres ever, an undertaking to add a new generation to the fanbase that was there from
the beginning. He already set the tone for this new chapter with his famous Essential Mixes for BBC Radio 1, with the ‘GOA Mix’ as an absolute highlight. It fused underground trance with familiar film and radio samples. No wonder it was voted the best Essential Mix of all time by listeners of Radio 1. With this new show ‘Trance Mission’, Paul sets out to take trance to a level it hasn’t been before.

2008
how Tomorrow came to last a decade When the domains of de Schorre, Boom, Belgium first came to life with a flurry of festival stages and dance devotees, the event’s moniker was oddly prophetic: Tomorrowland. The future held more than one tomorrow for the newly born land, and has until now graced us with ten editions – ten years – of the world’s most magical festival. How did Tomorrowland come to be, and whence comes its allure? This weekend, the final pages of each TML Today are dedicated to our origins. Every day, a different period in Tomorrowland’s history will be chronicled. Today, we treat of the years 2008 and 2009.
2008: DEFINITION OF MAGIC
2008
The first light rays to hit the earth on the twenty-sixth of July, 2008, carried an unambiguous message: this was going to be a hot weekend. Temperatures quickly blazed past 30 ºC as camping and festival filled up with the people of Tomorrow. All in good spirits, though; better to have sweat running down your back than rain running through your tent. Having set up shop at their campsites, people quickly made their way to the festival grounds where they were greeted by a more extensive Saturday programme than last year’s. Tomorrowland demonstrated its nose for future stars by booking Martin Solveig, Paul Kalkbrenner and Gareth Emery across three different stages. In between the dancing in the sunlight and the resting in the shade, a great atmosphere arose. Visitors who had been there in 2007 had happily returned to pass on the passion to newcomers. On Sunday, the addition of a few extra stages and enthusiastic day visitors only served to increase that fever. Again basking in sunlight, the crowd got rather hot and bothered – clothes were nowhere to be seen and it was shaping up to be the most naked edition of Tomorrowland so far. Although cause for eye-candy, the heat was nothing to be trifled with; some people succumbed to it, requiring

medical attention, though no one was seriously hurt. By and large, the festival thrived. Over the mainstage, an enormous and seemingly flying sea turtle sheltered dancers and deejays alike. In hindsight, it was the 2008 stage that started the trend of highly-detailed, intricate, indeed mesmerizing mains that continues to this day. And at night, under the turtle’s underwater wings, Armin van Buuren played one of his most memorable sets of all time. The weather gods chimed in with a rain shower, turning the laser show into an eerily beautiful light-storm, the most dramatic crescendo anyone could have wished for. Nature too, it seems, had taken note of the magical nature of this festival, and if not, visitors certainly had. Truly, the fourth edition of Tomorrowland was the one where you could taste it in the air: everyone was happy to be there, everyone realized they were becoming part of something greater. Magic had installed itself at the Schorre over the previous three years, growing in strength. It attracted attendees – the People of Tomorrow – from far and wide, and in doing so, ensured a bright future for itself. Everyone who was there was intent on coming back again.

2009: THE FIFTH FESTIVAL Word of mouth is a powerful thing, and for the first time in histor y, the fifth Tomorrowland sold out all of its tickets. Since there were forty thousand of those for ever y day, there were now twice as many people on the terrain as there were two years ago. At certain points, it showed; the festival had grown slightly too fast for its own good, and some bars and facilities had long lines to deal with. Apart from those hiccups, though, more was more. A massive mainstage was built in the same magical spirit as last year, but much more extensive. The purple creature that dominated it was lined with fountains, fireworks and performers. The tradition of incorporating large video screens, showing everything from the prettiest people in the crowd to visual magic tricks, was started as well. Up the hillside to the right a ski piste had been built with actual snow, on which people happily rode down on the back of – you didn’t guess it – crocodiles. As for the other podia, more and bigger hosting partners manned them than ever before. Aside from the Q-dance and Kozzmozz areas, which had both been going strong for a while, David Guetta commanded a
stage for a day and long-time Mysteryland partner Dirty Dutch, as well as famous label Defected in the House, also landed in De Schorre. Spots were reser ved for many more imprints, just like they had been over the past few years, allowing fans of all kinds of styles to mingle. Togetherness, after all, is one of the things Tomorrowland is about. After five years, it had become abundantly clear that due to the grand but loose organization of the festival, musicwise, exchanges could take place that normally never would. Fans of stadiumscale shows like Sensation would be there, at the mainstage, celebrating alongside underground clubbers come over from Café d’Anvèrs. And in 2009, they probably would have been doing this under the careful guidance of superstar surprise act Moby. His set, partially synced to a spectacular display of fireworks, was one of the fifth year’s highlights. And it had, alongside all the other extraordinar y features of the festival, succeeded in putting Tomorrowland on the map internationally. From now on, things were going to be big.
