SUNDAY
People of Tomorrow,
HAPPINESS
IS HERE! To say the past few days have been sunny would be an understatement. Not just in the literal sense of the word, with the sun pummeling down upon our shoulders the way it has been, but also figuratively. You, the DJs and the weather proved it once again: Tomorrowland is the hottest festival in the world. Where else can you encounter a three metre-tall magic mushroom one minute, and hug a tree in a knitted sweater the next? Where else is the choice of where to point your eyes – her eyes, her friend’s bare hips, or their dancing partner’s chiseled stomach – so hard? And where does the coloured smoke rise as high, where do the sub-bass frequencies reach as low? Impossible questions, all of them. For as long as we’re here, there is nowhere else. There is only Tomorrowland and the happiness within. Yesterday, it could be found anywhere. Ketaloco was filled to the barriers (and beyond), the Bonzaï boat went bonkers, and it all led up to fireworks frenzy over the mainstage pit. Even so, Tomorrow is not yet finished. You have one day left – make it count.
SUNDAY’S MUSICAL SENSATIONS Tomorrowland will keep on dancing ‘till the last beat fades away! It has been quite the ride, since you hauled your luggage onto DreamVille and had the weekend’s first party at the Gathering. As the last day of madness commences, let’s take a look at all the amazing artists that will rock your world one last time. Today’s Daybreak Session is hosted by AN21 & Max Vangeli. They’ll be opening
the day with a three hours’ set. For the freestyle maniacs amongst you, Pussy Lounge brings Darkraver, Paul Elstak, Ruthless and many more to Tomorrowland! You want to fly away on trance? Legends of Trance is hosting Markus Schulz, Cosmic Gate and Paul van Dyk. The minimal master Richie Hawtin holds the Minus stage with
friends like Gaiser, Joran van Pol and Ida Engberg. Our beloved Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike bring home the madness at the Smash the House area. With Wolfpack, Fedde Le Grand, Redfoo and more on the line-up, the crowd’s about to get down. One last thing: go nuts. Go mental. Go crazy. Blame it on the music!
Mainstage Masses,
LOVE TOMORROW!
Please don’t pull out the protective plastic layer on the grass of the mainstage valley. It keeps the grass as green as possible for the second weekend. Love today, love Tomorrow!
People of Tomorrow,
MAKE IT LEGENDARY! The inevitable last day has come. Only
A day in the life of Netsky
one day of magic, madness and the best music left. But there’s no time for sorrow, today, you can finally dance like there’s no Tomorrow.

TALK OF TOMORROW
When Mariska Tanzmehr and Fanny Beatskopf arrived at Tomorrowland after a long bus ride from Hamburg, Germany, they weren’t really sure what to expect. Now, after three days of madness, we’ve spotted them on this beautiful Sunday morning near the Grillmeister barbecue area, where they are cooking breakfast.
On this day, 2 years ago…
“Doesn’t it feel just like home?” Mariska asks as she flips the four pieces of grillwurst that lie scorching on the barbecue. “And it kind of smells like home too,” Fanny adds while dispersing the variety of spices they brought with them over the sausages. “Should we get some sauerkraut to go with these beauties? Or do you think just the meat will be enough to lay a good buffer? We’re still supposed to stop by the Belgian beer bar, remember? And it’s the last day, we need to dance,”
Mariska remarks. “I’m not sure,” Fanny says, “maybe we should stop by the camping shop on our way to the festival and get ourselves some fresh fruit and vegetables. After all, we’ve got a hell of a long day ahead of us.” “Yeah, and you already had a hell of long night,” Mariska winks, knowing that a handsome-looking Swedish guy followed Fanny into her tent last night. “I’ve got no idea what you’re talking about,” says Fanny in an attempt to avoid and ignore the subject, “you’d
better pay attention before our sausages get burned!” Mariska takes the meat off the barbecue and the girls can finally enjoy a nice self-cooked breakfast that should give them enough energy to reach the festival, at least. They continue to babble about how they want to pose in front of the flowers of the Wall of Love, how they dream of getting into Steve Aoki’s inflatable boat and maybe run into some other pretty Swedish fellow this time. They are more than ready for a glorious Sunday!

Tomorrow has arrived Open your eyes. Are you awake? You’d better be, because there’s a long day ahead of you. A day like yesterday, only much better. The sun’s shining and birds are singing. Well, not so much the birds as the speakers. They’re calling for you. Beats, beers,

Jesse, Jurie, Sander, Niels & Kevin (The Netherlands) “When we came back to our tent last night, there was some random wasted German dude lying in it. We gently moved him outside. Last thing we saw, he was waddling away into the dark.”
ALL THE WAY
FROM Namibia “Namibia is quite European. It probably is because of the colonization in the past. There are a lot of Dutch people, Germans, people from Portugal. That may be the reason why it does have an EDM scene, even though you wouldn’t expect that. We rave on the beach, or in the desert. The latter is impossible to do during the day, but is beautiful at night. We’d wish the internet was a bit faster over there though. We’ve been trying for years to get here, but couldn’t get tickets on our connection.”
Carson, Kirk, Claudia, Gavin & Maxim (USA) “Why not start the day with some grilled delicious meat? Why? Why not? You know, YOLO! Hmm. I’ve shouldn’t have said YOLO. ‘Carpe diem’ sounds way better.”

The Steam Doggies (New Zealand) “We’ve moved to Cambodia recently and started a business. We sell tickets to tourists and take them on a tour along bars and clubs. We’re The Steam Doggies, cause we’re freaking smoking hot!”
M.J. (Dubai) “I came all alone from Dubai. I like meeting new people, making friends in places like this. I’ll probably leave here speaking Dutch, English and Portuguese. I’m really excited for Kaskade. And Dillon Francis. He’s my ravedad.”

Let Spa refresh you It has been a hot and sweaty weekend so far. If the sun’s becoming a bit too much for you, you could take a seat in the shadows to cool off, or splash some water in your face at the refreshment points. But at DreamVille, Spa provides some much needed relief from the heat in a more creative way. Once you’ve entered the Spa Splash Bar, it’s up to you to fulfill a task that’s not too difficult at first sight. Push the right buttons at the right time. If you mess up, a water balloon shoots out of a cannon and hits you right in the face! A challenge for the mind and a unique way to get a revitalizing dose of water on those sunburns. The face you make seconds before and after the hit can be shared online for your friends to laugh at. Are you up for the challenge?
Belgian culture Post Office
Fresh juices
Wait, what?
Want to sniff some typical Belgian culture between dancing? Come visit the booth with Belgian waffles and try out their famous Belgian chocolate dip. If you prefer something saltier, inaptly named French fries are already in the fryer!
Your body could use some vitamins in the crowds and the heat these days. At most foodcourts, there are stands with freshly squeezed juices and fresh fruit. They’ll give your body the vitamin boost it needs to make it through the final day.
At times, the weirdest things are sent to our inbox. This picture especially elicited a couple of surprised faces in our newsroom. Sander, you’re a very special ray of sunshine!
If you’re inspired to spread the love beyond the gates of Tomorrowland, stop by the Post Office to send your hugs and kisses to your friends and family back home. You can find the Post Office next to stage 7 on your map.
World of FlagS: WE Have a winner! Yesterday you were called upon to take a creative selfie with the flag of your country, and send it to today@ tomorrowland.com. Congratulations are in order to Patrick
Krug! Patrick, you’ll receive one of those beautiful Tomorrowland flags! For all the others, you can still buy one of your own at the fashion stands.
Forever together
All boats go to heaven
During his mind-blowing set last Friday at the Dim Mak stage, Steve Aoki did what he does best: tear it up! With fat beats, delicious cake, champagne, and of course by surfing the crowd. On a boat. The inflatable device turned up today in a dumpster. A sad sight to behold. Rubber dingy, we salute you. May you float forever on the heavenly seas.
Floor, VLAM’s campaign for the youth, has been looking for Tomorrowland’s ultimate Flower Couple for the past few weeks. A passionate love story or a funny anecdote was enough to earn a chance at a Tomorrowland Day Pass. During the Flower Ceremony, with the Wall of Love as a backdrop, Floor unifies the exceptional people who won forever in the name of Tomorrow. Griet & Chani, to the right, have been the best of friends for 5 years and go through the craziest adventures together. They are together 24/7 and a day apart is, to them, a day badly spent. “We finish each other’s sentences, have the same dreams and boatloads of fun together. By now, we have a sixpack from laughing all the time, the corners of my mouth are never still and oftentimes, we are hoarse from the stories we tell each other time and again,” says Griet. “Chani is my best friend forever!”

The best
Belgian Fries in Belgium
Let’s settle this once and for all: there is no such thing as ‘French fries’. There’s only Belgian Fries and they’re the very best in the world. You see, for the Belgians, baking fries is an art form that requires true craftsmanship, fresh ingredients and one or more very special touches. One of the most famous places where you could taste what are said to be the best Belgian Fries was Frituur De Kwetterwei in Rumst. It used to be run by Swa Horemans and Marieke Peeters. Sadly, after 20 years behind the frying pans, they hung up their aprons. But for the special occasion of Tomorrowland’s anniversary, Swa & Marieke are frying once again. Don’t miss out on this typically Belgian delicacy. Swa and Marieke, why did you close down Frituur De Kwetterwei in the first place?
Swa: “Simple: I’m a retired man now. I’m 62 years old, so the time was right to call it quits. After twenty years behind the fryers we needed rest and some time for ourselves.” But you still have the urge – the ‘goesting’ in Flemish – to keep on making and baking fries?
Swa: “Of course, the ‘goesting’ never goes away! But the actual reason we are here is due to Tomorrowland organizer Manu Beers. I had a bet going with Manu concerning our special sauce. He desperately wanted the recipe for that sauce and I told him that if I was to give it to him, he would be obliged to invite me over to bake fries at Tomorrowland. And that’s the main reason why we are here (laughs).” How did the people respond to your authentic way of baking fries?
Marieke: “It was great, superb! Yesterday we had a few visitors that stood in line no less than three times for a pack of fries. I can’t even begin to tell you how happy that makes us.” Swa: “The thing is: everything here is as fresh as it can be. And it is because of that freshness that you get such great quality. Our ‘frituur’ here operates as a truly authentic frituur and we do everything our
9 TOMORROWLAND TODAY 2014
DE SCHORRE BOOM BELGIUM
way, like we’ve always done. All that adds up to us serving the very best Belgian fries on the whole festival site.” Marieke: “We’ve cut all fries ourselves – about 2 tons of fries per weekend – and the butcher makes sure that we have fresh meat every day. Last week we prepared about 200 kilograms of ‘stoofvlees’ (meat stew) at home. So we’ve had some busy days already.” And now during the festival you’re both operating the fryers all day long yourselves?
Marieke: “Yes, every morning starting from 9 am we’re up and already working to get all preparations in order. This weekend and next weekend, but also on Wednesday because then the neighbours of Tomorrowland will pay a visit to the festival grounds and of course they’d like to eat some nice fries. For those people we are glad to walk that extra mile.” Even though you’re frying most the time, can you feel the atmosphere of Tomorrowland?
Swa: “Absolutely! This is our very first time at Tomorrowland and we didn’t quite know what to expect. But wow, everything is great and we are enjoying ourselves to the max. The only disadvantage is that it is a bit too hot to be standing over those boiling deep fryers. But luckily, that doesn’t have any effect on the fries themselves, they are great every time (laughs)!”

A day in the life of
Netsky Rarely have we seen someone rise through the ranks as quickly as Boris Daenen, a.k.a. Netsky. Leading a wave of new skool drum ‘n bass talent from Europe with his blend of uplifting, moving melodies and heavy dancefloor bass & beats, Netsky’s popularity is astounding. A celebrity in his own country, Belgium, he has received numerous awards and accolades and continues to impress audiences across the world with his Netsky LIVE! show with a complete band.
Netsky signed exclusively to Hospital in late 2009; his first release was the iconic Memory Lane (as featured on Sick Music 2 in 2010) and this was swiftly followed up by his self-titled chart-topping debut album in May of the same year. With virtually unanimous praise and hype from press and public alike, it plunged Netsky firmly into the limelight. He has remained there ever since, delivering a potent mix of dancefloor anthems, vocal-heavy classics and that clean-cut new jungle sound which has become his trademark. We got a hold of the new face on the D&B firmament just before he mounted the stairs towards mainstage stardom!

Do you keep track of how many times you have played Tomorrowland? “Four times! But this year was the first time that I played the mainstage. Awesome! I’m pretty curious about what it is going to be like. I used to play the smaller tents and stages so I’m quite sure that this is going to become a whole new experience.
Hardwell and Tiësto will be spinning the decks after you. Do you think that your respective styles might collide? “I hope so, actually. I intend to give the audience something totally different, create a whole new atmosphere in comparison to what they’ve heard over the weekend. It’s going to be a completely different thing and that’s something I look forward to even more. Let’s see if I can pull it off. Usually my friends say that everything will work out just fine – it’s their job to say that, of course – but I myself am a bit more cautious.”
Being on the road the whole time, do you feel like you’re leading a lonesome existence? “No, not at all. We play quite a lot with the band and at those times we are on tour with 14 to 16 people. So it pretty much never gets lonely. Over the years we became a bit of a family and we make our fair share of fun on the road. That keeps everything in balance. I wouldn’t say that it’s all sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll though. Absolutely no drugs, in any case (laughs). But even when I play in Belgium I always bring some friends with me, so I’m pretty much always surrounded by good folk. Very relaxed, like being on a holiday (laughs).”
Were you a visitor of Tomorrowland before you went to DJ yourself? “Yes, and so I saw very closely how the festival grew and expanded over the years. Needless to say it was hard to keep track of that evolution because the growth is exponential year after year. Time after time they don’t fail to amaze me. And given the fact that I haven’t been playing here myself for a while – I’ve been touring quite a bit – this year might just be a bit of a comeback. On the mainstage!”

Tomorrowland TV A window to the world Millions of people are watching you as this weekend. Not directly, of course, but trough Tomorrowland TV. Those who couldn’t make it are part of the madness nonetheless, from the comfort of their own homes. Once again a very dedicated and creative crew is making it possible for everyone to see and hear the beautiful things happening in Boom, Belgium. Smile when you see a camera pointed at you, and your happy face will be aired for everyone to see. That way, yours is a smile for the whole world, for all the People of Tomorrow!
Hello folks, hope everything is cool!
Exploring the epicenter of Tomorrowland TV, the temporary office from where the enormous operation is directed, one things stands out about the crew. It’s a family, and what’s more, nobody wants to take credit for anything. ‘Don’t show the magic,’ a warning sign says at the office. Tomorrowland TV isn’t about the way it’s produced, or about numbers and facts. It’s about you, the crowd. It’s the window into the fairytale, taking viewers along on the search to happiness.
So, have you ever in your lifetime witnessed anything like what we had yesterday..? I haven’t, and I have been part of the scene for 25 years! Each year with the Belgium massive continues to give me faith in humanity. I really can’t explain how much it means to me to have the chance to speak to so many people from so many countries. Writing this is giving me goosepimples.
“This year, more than ever, we focus on the people as they walk about the festival. What do they feel, think, say? How do they experience Tomorrowland? Our goal is to translate that feeling to the viewers. We don’t just broadcast the music with some nice shots. We deliver the entire experience, tell the entire story behind the concept. We want to give the viewer the same feeling as the people here. The feeling of happiness, madness, beauty,” the editor-in-chief states.
Deorro, by the way, was a tad drunk on Friday and after his rant on Twitter he was completely apologetic to everyone involved. Lovely fella he is, and all has been forgiven. What a great set too. Love love love to all the folks who danced with the New World Punx in the rain, as well. Kisses for life!
Last year almost 18 million people tuned in over the course of the festival. How do you beat that? Is there a next level to achieve? “As the festival itself is pushed to new heights every year, we keep searching for the next level as well. This year we use things like bullet-time and stop-motion, making
It has to be one of the hottest weekends ever at Tomorrowland, no question. And before I go any further, I want to put a shout out to the crew from yesterday during Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano’s set, gracias hombres, gracias! Like Armin said on Friday, you rule!
And finally, the best day to party is upon us. This day sets us apart from the all the rest of the festivals on the planet. Sunday is the original day to party and as much as we are all completely fucking knackered, we know this is the last chance to lose our minds. Tomorrowland, I salute you, the best has been saved until the last. Enjoy every special moment of your time here and know that you will never be alone. The key to happiness lies within you. Make your dreams a reality and don’t let legislation or rules stop you. One Love, brothers & sisters!

items about the visitors, with the visitors. We’ve got Liz, our host, interviewing the biggest artists in the DJ hangout. We’re zooming in more on the many details and the people having a blast. An important aspect is our voice-over. It tells the story in a way that supports the whole steampunk theme. In combination with custom made visuals it connects the different items and broadcasts in a way suited to Tomorrowland.” During the festival strategically placed cameras capture the huge mainstage and the so-called Opera stage. Everyday a third stage is chosen, differing each day. “At this moment it’s the Q-dance stage, yesterday we were at the Garden of Madness, the big floating stage. These registrations are aired between the live-broadcasts. When we’re not live, they are put into three loops, so that every time zone on earth can watch everything on primetime.” Tomorrowland TV is much more than just a livestream of the shows and music. Thanks to them, the search for the Key to Happiness isn’t just for the people who got a ticket. It is a search the whole world participates in, whether you’re at Boom or at home.

Who’s the grillest of them all?
This year Lidl was looking for masterchefs. Not in the kitchen, but behind the barbecue. You could win a ride in a helicopter, flying above Tomorrowland. All you had to do was to take a picture of yourself at the special BBQ area, with your favorite cooking tools and a LIDL apron. If you shared it with #Grillmeister, that ride could have been yours! “Well, bring it on!” Erwin and Myrthe must have thought. But after strolling through DreamVille ten times in search of aprons, they turned out to be quite challenging to find. With some meat bought at the butcher’s shop they left for the BBQ area. But then the guy at the area didn’t know anything about this contest. It almost meant the end of their adventure. Persistent as they were, they took a photo anyway, with everything they had on them. And guess what? They will be boarding the helicopter this afternoon, alongside the winners of yesterday and Friday.

MUSICAL MADNESS The official 10 years of Tomorrowland compilation
The most constant force behind Tomorrowland is music. Music in all its forms, shapes, genres and emotions. The People of Tomorrow, together with all the excellent artists and passionate crew, give off a musical signal to the world. ‘This is our passion. This is what unites us. We are one. We are music.’ This dedication to music shown over the past decades is now captured on the official Tomorrowland compilation, to be released this summer. Three CDs full of the most powerful sounds the world has ever heard, created by legends Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, Hardwell, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Steve Aoki and Yves V. The DJ mixes by these headliners are of the highest quality. That goes for sound and mixing,
as well as containing the magic found at Tomorrowland. The past weeks you, the People of Tomorrow, could submit the track that reminds you of the madness the most via the world wide web. And you did, in huge numbers! The 20 submissions that received the most support are now put together on the Tomorrowland compilation. A CD for you, by you. The deluxe edition, as shown on the picture, will be sent over to ten lucky voters. It not only contains three CDs, but also a beautifully printed overview of the past ten years of madness. Since 1998, self-made music label Minus has been the home base and canvas of Richie Hawtin. A small family of like-minded artists, producers and DJs, including Magda, Troy Pierce, Marc Houle, Gaiser, Heartthrob, Barem and more supports him, creating one of the most close-knit collectives in electronic music today. The musical and live experience of the Minus sound is a varied and unique mix of minimal techno, heralding influences from the past with a strong sonic focus on the future, always integrating technology. This weekend Hawtin invites Ida Engberg, Maceo Plex, Gaiser and Paco Osuna at podium number 9.
Pussy Lounge is one of the longest-running concepts of Dutch promoter b2s. The soft-erotic styled event was organized for the first time in 1997. Pussy Lounge is one of the best-known club concepts of b2s and has visited locations such as Central Studios in Utrecht and the Matrixx in Nijmegen. The always sold-out parties are packed with madness, happiness, and good music, where the DJ plays what the audience wants. Dubbed ‘freestyle’, the playlists are a mix of the popular harder styles in dance music. And the other major selling point of Pussy Lounge is, of course, the abundant sexy entertainment. A fresh start with AN21 & Max Vangeli For those who like to focus on the music deeply, this year, each day of the festival will begin with a daybreak session. One (or two) artists with three hours to fill at the Mainstage: that’s the recipe for a musical start of the day. Today you will be welcomed by none other than AN21 & Max Vangeli.
JULY 20TH 2014
From Moldova to Miami, the world is now the stage that has been set for Max Vangeli’s momentous musical footsteps. Described by MTV as ‘one of the most promising artists for 2011’, he has exceeded all expectations in his ascension to the high end of international house music, playing the finest venues across the globe. His and his partner AN21’s 2012 debut album, featuring collaborations with the likes of Steve Angello and Tiësto, is enough to indicate that with so much momentum already behind them, there is little stopping these masters of emotive house anthems. On the same page, AN21 can boast of an extended line of
brotherhood to the formidable Size Records clan, and has invariably let passion lead the way for his musical legacy. Balancing the realms of hunting for talents and producing & playing visionary house himself, a remarkable array of melodic peak time anthems have helped establish this immaculate Swedish musician as an outstanding leader of the global house explosion. AN21 & Max Vangeli have been proving the principle that one plus one is more than two for years, and if anyone is able to take Tomorrowland on a diverse musical journey, it’s them!

KORSAKOFF FOCUS ON GLORIOUS SUNDAY Pussy Lounge 20:30 One of the biggest names in hardcore music has come to spread her brutal beats over Tomorrowland. Pussy Lounge’s ‘freestyle’ policy welcomes Korsakoff, who’s been playing major hardcore events for a decade, with open arms. She tells us what hardcore is all about, and what it’s like for her to play a festival focused mostly on the more moderate styles of dance music.
to ask which country we haven’t visited yet I suppose, haha. The USA stays behind a little since they are still exploring house music and other more ‘commercial’ genres. A few hardcore artists perform a lot in the States, but most of them don’t get the chance yet because the scene is just too small. They are not ready for us, I guess. The hardcore crowd is very dedicated and they are always partying full throttle, that’s what makes it so addictive to perform for them, haha. You see that nowhere else!”
Does a festival’s musical style influence your performance? “I don’t think it’s about winning souls or representing a certain scene. It doesn’t matter if it gets bigger or more popular than before, it is about the passion that you feel. You don’t have to like my music because I say so; the passion has to be real. At Tomorrowland, I won’t play a hardcore set like I did Saturday on Dominator, because I’m performing at the Pussy Lounge stage. This area is the home of freestyle, so we’re allowed to play whatever we want, as long as the crowd is into it. I love playing freestyle, because it allows me to play my older tracks, which don’t fit in my hardcore sets anymore. But Tomorrowland is a very different festival than the ones I usually perform at, that’s a fact. The organization has thought out every little detail. When I performed there two years ago, the mainstage was really overwhelming. You don’t get stages like that at other events.”
What are you planning to visit at Tomorrowland after your performance? “Unfortunately I can only be there on Sunday, because I’ve got other gigs on Friday and Saturday. I didn’t manage to see Nicky Romero at another festival a while ago. I hope I’ll be able to catch him at the mainstage, so I can finally see him perform.” Do you prefer festivals or indoor events? “What I like about festivals is the solidarity between people. Everybody smiles, is there to have a good time, and gets the opportunity to make a lot of new friends. You don’t see that as much at indoor events, which usually have a darker and harder taste. But that fits our genre, so it’s hard to make a choice. But I’m definitely happy that we’re in the middle of the festival season right now!”
“Tomorrowland is a very different festival than the ones I usually perform at.”
Have you seen big changes in hardcore music the last couple of years? “Yes, especially during the last couple of years. Together with (and thanks to) the development of the Internet, we’ve reached countries we never expected to visit through our music. Nothing seems off limits now! Bookings come from Sweden to Australia and New Zealand. It’s better
What’s your message for the People of Tomorrow today? “Live your truth. Express your love. Share your enthusiasm. Take action towards your dreams. Walk your talk. Dance and sing to your music. Embrace your blessings. Make today worth remembering.”

Krewella
Mainstage 16:00
Jahan, Yasmine and Rain Man make up one of the hottest acts out of the States right now: Krewella! Mixing booming electro house with the two sisters’ beautiful voices, they’ve gathered a dedicated and ever growing following across the world. Through Tomorrowland they’re getting ready
to take Europe by storm, as they did in America. With Krewella, the electronic genres have gained extra momentum amongst the younger generations. Thanks to the amazing trio from the famous city of Chicago, a voice with a positive message has been added to dance music at large. They
may only have been around since the summer of 2011, but Krewella know how to throw a party. Come get wet, come feel alive, come on over and scream to your heart’s desire with Krewella.
Paul KalkbrenneR
Alle Farben
Redfoo
As a boy, only twelve years old, Paul watched the fall of the infamous Berlin wall. East Berlin became a place where the youth, who had been oppressed for so long, could revel in their newfound freedom in sometimes anarchistic ways. Techno quickly became one of the major ways for them to express and lose themselves; it became a break from reality. A way to escape the world we live in, that’s what Paul can provide you with through his touching tunes. He’s not just a DJ, he’s an artist and an actor as well; his fame rose to great heights after his lead role in the 2008 film Berlin Calling. Behind the decks, he takes you on a journey through space, time and yourself by experimenting with all kinds of beats. And when he’s not busy making music, you can probably find him at Bayern Munich, watching the games.
Frans Zimmer gets even the most reserved people on the floor to move their hips, under his moniker Alle Farben (which means ‘all colours’ in German). Just like he crosses borders to play everywhere in the world, he musically crosses genres and has developed a style of his own. His Synesthesia album captures that musical diversity. Frans didn’t only use his laptop to produce this masterpiece, but also carefully selected live musicians to contribute. Vocals on Synesthesia were done by renowned singers like Graham Candy and Sway Clarke II. The album marked a milestone in the eight years Alle Farben has been around. Another was the memorable performance Frans gave at the former Tempelhof Airport in early 2013, with close to 35,000 people in front of him. Alle Farben is quickly becoming a bright new star within the realm of dance music, and Tomorrowland welcomes him with open arms.
He may say that he’s ‘sorry for party rocking’, but Redfoo isn’t sorry at all. Part of the infamous LMFAO, which you’ll probably know because of their worldwide hit I’m in Miami, B*tch!, Redfoo has an endless energy which especially flourishes on stage, together with you, his fellow party-rockers. When he’s not on stage blasting away, he can be found in his studio at home all the time. This tireless dedication to the music placed him in the spotlight of some major artists. He has already collaborated with David Guetta, the Black Eyed Peas, Lil’ John and Pitbull. In 2010, LMFAO’s debut album Party Rock was even nominated for a Grammy in the ‘Best Electronic/Dance Album’ category. Are you ready for Redfoo? He sure is ready for you, with a bunch of tequila shots, smashing tunes and bottles of premium vodka always at hand.

Dave Till
Smash the House 13:00 Dave Till recently got signed by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike at Smash the House Recordings, and it’s his fourth time playing at Tomorrowland. He has headlined Summer Festival, Daydream, Replay Festival, Super Sonic and more. With releases on Spinnin, Oxygen, Mixmash & OTW, and collaborations with Blasterjaxx and Ziggy, he takes his audience from the best big room house to the more underground progressive sounds of the early days, and back again. In the studio he’s always searching for a new shape
or form for electronic music. He was once part of that other new Belgian super-act, Wolfpack, before going solo. Ladies and gentlemen, People of Tomorrow, it’s Dave Till! Fresh, no nonsense, full of energy, eager to entertain, confident in his musical abilities. If you weren’t keeping an eye out for him before, you should be from now on. Cause this one’s going to get big, bigger, biggest!
Richie Hawtin Minus 22:00
Under the guidance of minimal master Richie Hawtin, Minus has established itself since its conception in 1998 as a safe haven for creative souls who are all about producing slick and well-balanced futuristic techno. Through his Plastikman and Concept projects, Richie has laid the foundation of what has now become more than a label. Minus is a family, an intimate collective consisting out of men and women with their vision towards the future. Richie himself is
famous for being on the forefront when it comes to new software and hardware. In the past he mastered the art of the 909, the 303 and Final Scratch. Now, Richie rips stages apart with Ableton Live, in combination with Traktor. With Minus, Richie is currently focusing on Berlin, picking up and promoting new artists at special events. Furthermore, he is an ambassador for Bridges for Music, offering the poorest talents a chance as well.
Franky Jones Age of Love 23:00
There are few words that are sufficient to describe Franky Jones. He has been around for over almost three decades, spreading his message of love through fast beats with relentless passion. His broad musical taste ranges from disco to new wave and new beat in the early ‘80s to house and techno. Getting his inspiration from artists like Prince, Depeche Mode, Run DMC and Kraftwerk, Jones guides you to the outer edges of the musical universe. He has played at some of the most legendary raves, like Mayday, the Love
Nicky Romero Mainstage 18:00
Alongside the likes of Armin, Tiësto and Hardwell, Nicky Romero is one of the finest examples of Dutch innovation, grandeur and musicality we’ve seen the last decade or so. If at all, his sound could be described as a sensual mix of progressive house with hints of electro and acid. With David Guetta as his mentor, Nicky has grown from spinning house and R&B in his early years to headlining the biggest stages in the world and producing some of the biggest hits the
world has ever heard. He now runs his very own Protocol label, lending his insights to Nilson and Tony Romera, among others. In an era where everybody can be a DJ, there can be only one Nicky Romero. With or without his famous Anonymous mask, Nicky has stolen our hearts. And eardrums. And feet. You can show Nicky what’s his at the mainstage this afternoon.

how Tomorrow came to last a decade When the domains of de Schorre, Boom, Belgium first came to life with a flurry of festival stages and dance devotees, the event’s moniker was oddly prophetic: Tomorrowland. The future held more than one tomorrow for the newly born land, and has until now graced us with ten editions – ten years – of the world’s most magical festival. How did Tomorrowland come to be, and whence comes its allure? This weekend, the final pages of each TML Today are dedicated to our origins. Every day, a different period of Tomorrowland’s history will be chronicled. In this final installment the stories of 2012 and 2013 are told.
2012: Still THE BEST THERE was
2012
In the wake of the previous year’s aftermovie, which had been viewed tens of millions of times on Youtube, it turned out that Tomorrowland’s popularity hadn’t nearly reached its peak yet. There were signals that enthusiasm from abroad had skyrocketed, so an exclusively Belgian presale was launched. In doing so, a balanced mix of loyal locals and newcomers from far away was retained – even in the face of the wave of 2 million people who tried to order tickets worldwide. The unfortunate fate of the fans who were excluded, as well as the glowing reviews of 2011’s aftermovie, led to the inception of Tomorrowland TV. That way, the magic of Tomorrow would be able to flow from De Schorre to the remotest corners of the world – live through Youtube. With a little under two hundred thousand visitors and eight million viewers, Tomorrowland was quite possibly the best-visited festival in history. Those are just numbers, however. Taking home the ‘Best Festival’ IDMA had given everyone behind the screens a confidence boost, and the challenge was on to surpass last year’s performance.
29 TOMORROWLAND TODAY 2014
DE SCHORRE BOOM BELGIUM
Now that the People of Tomorrow were well and truly aware that it was they, themselves, that made the magic, it was time to give them single focus. Tomorrowland had always had a strong vision behind décor design, of course, but from 2012 onwards all would be captured in a single theme. The Book of Wisdom was this year’s moniker and of course, the mainstage reflected that. A bookshelf of unimaginable proportions supported the Book of Wisdom and also housed its keepers. Lusting for Tomorrow more than ever before, the DJs were as eager to perform as the crowd was to dance. The churning mass of people in the pit before the podium had, within a few short years, become a familiar sight. No longer amazed, although still delighted at that grand spectacle, the audience collectively decided to recreate it at other stages, too. One highlight was Richie Hawtin’s ENTER tunnel of LED effects – besides David Guetta’s two-hour mainstage extravaganza, of course. The Book of Wisdom proved that last year’s IDMA had been welldeserved – and so received the award again!

2013: THE MAGIC OF LIFE Life always finds a way. At Tomorrowland 2013, it was sown by a volcano whose ashes fertilized and infused De Schorre’s soil with happiness, and the festival’s ninth edition was aptly called The Arising of Life. In the mainstage lived the Spirit of the Mountain, who spoke benevolently to her people; elsewhere, an enormous butterfly spread its wings over fans of Carl Cox, Laidback Luke and Dave Clarke throughout the weekend. In its regular, somewhat secluded area, Q-dance had struck up camp with an exceptionally beautiful stage, a scorpion just as mean as the imprint’s hardstyle kicks. And of course, the People of Tomorrow had been looking lively from the DreamVille Gathering’s very beginning. When on Saturday night, a meteorological mishap doused the festival in heavy rains, the magic of Tomorrow went into full effect. The better part of the mainstage crowd simply refused to leave as Armin van Buuren was – not for the first time – playing a masterful closing set. Along with life itself, a completely new stage had arisen from the waters of one of the grounds’ many lakes. Brought to life not by a creature, but by thousands of plants and flowers, its lush greens created an intimate
setting, inviting thousands to party their brains out. Like previous years, a lot of those people came from abroad, but this time many had booked through the extensive Global Journey programme. They came in by partyflight, bus or train and together, they made sure not a single hotel room in Antwerp, Mechelen and Brussels remained available. DreamVille had grown larger than ever as well, overtaking the festival itself in physical size. Saturday’s heavy showers had turned it into a veritable mud bath, but here too, the magic would not falter. Campers whose tents had succumbed to the rain simply slept elsewhere, and it turned out that a swampy path, an airbed and a running jump made for an excellent mudslide. One year before its tenth anniversary, the denizens of Tomorrowland were more intent on staying than ever. In order for more people from across the world to share in that magic, that ecstatic feeling, the step across the Atlantic was taken, and in September, TomorrowWorld began. Meanwhile in Europe, the anniversary edition of Tomorrowland, the best festival in the world, was eagerly awaited.
