MAGICAL FRIDAY
2022 BELGIUM
TODAY, WE BEGIN AGAIN! FIND LOVE ALL AROUND THE HOLY GROUNDS Here we are again, friends. Still abuzz from last night’s adventures, longing to see what lies beyond that short, tantalizing walk up to the Holy Grounds themselves. You’re almost there – right upon the precipice, readied by a Gathering that saw love reactivated in your heart. Not just any kind of love, mind, but a particular, thrilling, all-encompassing feeling, a connection not just between you and those around you, but between you and all of the tens of thousands of souls come together to celebrate Tomorrow once again. It is up to you, now, to reflect all
that – the magic felt at the Gathering, the presence of all of those like-minded humans, your deep affection for your friends – into a first day of Tomorrowland never to forget. Where will it take you, beyond the eternal spectacle of the Mainstage? Will you reunite with the watchful dragon of the Rose Garden? Go down the rabbit hole in the forests of Core? Enjoy a well-deserved rest at the Freedom waterfalls, maybe? In the end, perhaps it doesn’t even matter so much, friends. What matters is you’re here, and today we finally begin. Welcome home.
SOUNDS LIKE LOVE FOLLOW YOUR HEART’S MUSICAL DESIRE
Giddy up now! The weekend is rapidly picking up speed... So much to visit, so little time. A myriad of sounds can be heard and experienced throughout the sonic kaleidoscope that is Tomorrowland. From the grand scale of the Mainstage to the underground darkness of Coincidence at the Cage, from the rugged hardness of Pussy Lounge at Youphoria to the silky smoothness of PIV at LEAF and Printworks at Core. Highlight after highlight: Reinier Zonneveld, Armin van Buuren, Hardwell, Joris Voorn, Eric Prydz, SPFDJ, Paul Elstak, Prunk b2b Mhigh, Tinlicker, Enrico Sangiuliano, Diplo, Charlotte de Witte, Seth Troxler, Kevin Saunderson and Headhunterz. Is your FOMO acting up already? It should! However diverse these sounds may seem, they have one common denominator. All of them represent the dance music culture, a culture of love. They are – no exceptions – a sonic Reflection of Love.

Dear Readers,
• Setting up camp at DreamVille • Practical info & sports classes • The very best of the Marketplace
Besides magic, madness and unity, Tomorrowland stands for love. And although romantic letters might feel like a prehistoric practice in an age where we classify a 3 a.m. “you up?” text as ‘amour’, The Reflection of Love should be all about that eloquent prose professing a burning affection. And we are delighted to share the romance!

BELGIUM 2022
FLY LIKE AN EAGLE TAKE-OFF TO DESTINATION: TOMORROWLAND Your Tomorrowland experience starts as soon as you leave home and the journey, alone or with friends, is always fun and exciting. But there is one particular way to make your trip to Tomorrowland truly unforgettable, and that’s by taking an official Partyflight, all geared up with DJs, glowsticks and extraordinarily festive vibes for party peeps just like yourself. This year, for the first time in three years, Brussels Airlines transformed ten flights into official, exclusive TML Partyflights. One of them was carried out by the amazing Amare, an airplane unlike any other: it resembles a mythical bird and symbolises some of Tomorrowland’s most important values, such as love, friendship, and unity. Last Wednesday, Amare arrived in Brussels from Oslo, with an incredible pre-party on board. Want to know more? Keep reading!
Raving in a departure lounge? Sounds mad, but it’s exactly the way a Partyflight to the Holy Grounds starts when Amare is your preferred choice of travel. Picture ultra-energetic vibes with dancers who haven’t slept much due to their excitement for what’s awaiting them. They move to a selection of house and tech house, played by a DJ looking somewhat bewildered at what on Earth is happening around him. Drinks are served, and so is food, for anyone who can find the time to eat in between moving their dancing feet. Then, slowly, the partyhopping experience enters a new phase as everyone moves toward Brussels Airlines’ most extravagantly decorated Airbus A320. Once inside, the mostly Norwegian music heads start singing their favourite songs as they receive their exclusive and limited TML Partyflight glowsticks, while they wait for some official magical 4
announcements to be made. They don’t have to wait long, as the fancylooking cabin crew enters the stage with some choreographed ‘safety instructions’ which officially set off the Partyflight. Will the official Tomorrowland dance, as shown by the cabin crew, end up going viral? If you come across groups of people putting their fists forward and upward before they make heart figures with both hands, then you’ll know the answer… Amare’s out-of-the-ordinary soundtrack, meanwhile, is provided by British production duo The Goodboys, the people behind this newspaper’s first Track of the Day: a banging track called ‘Jack Flip’. The two are the perfect fit for this flight, as a big part of the reason they started collaborating is them watching Tomorrowland aftermovies together in their younger years. Their set is a combination of their own
productions with some true Tomorrowland classics everyone on the plane can relate to. Tomorrowland takes pride in uniting people for life, and that’s exactly what’s already happening on board Amare. Some people on the flight have never met before, but they’ve already decided to camp together at DreamVille, or to meet up again during the festival at the very least. Take Martina and Janine from the Oslo region; they’ve only just met and already agreed to check out the drum & bass stage curated by Netsky, and the never-seen-before Reflection of Love Mainstage. Clearly, the Partyflight reflects the love that the People of Tomorrow instinctively share!

GLOBAL JOURNEY PACKAGES Global Journey offers a lot of different options to choose from, with a way of travelling suited to everyone’s taste. Here are some of the packages available. Which will you choose next year? Torkel & Eddie Torkel from Trondheim and Eddie from Oslo feel like Hobbits going on one big adventure. Funny thing is, 2022’s theme, The Reflection of Love, seems to be right up their alley, as the two used to be a married couple until just a few years ago. “We called each other when we heard about the theme,” says Eddie. “We haven’t seen each other for one and a half years, but Torkel has been stalking me a little online. It’s OK, our take on love is going to be friendship, starting from today!’’
FLIGHT PACKAGES Come fly with me… After a three-year break, our People of Tomorrow have been boarding planes from every corner of the world again to start their Global Journey. The really lucky ones? They’re the people on board of those soaring Partyflights, of course! Coming in from far and wide, and always with a rave on board, the spellbinding expedition called Global Journey starts high up in the air on these.
TRAIN PACKAGES Take the railroad! Travelling by train from Europe’s most buzzing cities with a great aerial connection: it’s the Global Journey at its whizzing best. With departures from Paris, Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, London and Rotterdam, Europe has been lying at our rail travellers’ feet from the get-go. To complete this once-in-a-lifetime experience, every Train Package includes return tickets to Brussels or Antwerp and accommodation upon arrival in Belgium.
HOTEL PACKAGES Welcome home Offering a wide range of accommodations, this package includes a hotel experience curated for the People of Tomorrow. It is also fully customizable, offering travellers their own choice of preferred check-in and check-out dates – and a chance to create a dream itinerary, with the option to include the Belgium Journey and Invited Brussels deals.
Jorun & Maggie Energetic old friends Jorun and Maggie from Kristiansand dropped everything for their first ever TML Partyflight. “This trip has been in the making for many years – it’s been a dream since 2006. The day of our lives has finally arrived. Flying will never be the same after this magical journey.” Their tips for this weekend? “Armin van Buuren, Alesso and Timmy Trumpet!”
BUS PACKAGES Time to hop on Asphalt burning! Hop on the Global Journey bus for miles and miles of memories and newfound friendships or get some advance sleeping in on the road. Once arrived at the campsite, special hosts lead the way to a comfortable DreamVille stay. The only thing left for guests to do is to dive right into the magic – and the madness.
FRIENDSHIP TRAVEL PACKAGE Family in the making! Sharing this Tomorrowland experience means extending it. Friendship Travel Packages offer a carefully selected range of B&Bs, houses, villas, apartments, and hostels all aimed at staying together on and off-site. No need to worry about transportation either, as that’s also covered! The Friendship Travel Packages are all about deepening friendships new and old, giving meaning to that ultimate Reflection of Love.
DISCOVER EUROPE Wanderlust at its finest
Daniel, Kristoffer, Ola and Ludwig This group first travelled to Oslo from their village in the frosty far north of Norway. Daniel and Ludwig have known each other forever – they’re brothers, after all – and they met the others about ten years back through their shared passion for electronic music. The four have dreamt about going to Tomorrowlad since middle school and always knew they’d travel there with the incredible bird-plane Amare. They’re most excited to check out every single stage and to see Alesso, Martin Garrix and Paul Kalkbrenner this weekend. “Everyone else should see them too,” says Ludwig. THE REFLECTION OF LOVE
What if we were to tell you that you could roam the streets of Amsterdam, get lost in the narrow streets of Barça, discover Berlin by bicycle, or explore Ibiza all by opting for Discover Europe? Those who went for it are in the know: this was an unforgettable, life-changing experience, marked by new everlasting friendships – the perfect buildup to your Tomorrowland experience.
SURPRISE PACKAGE Open minds, open hearts Most of you came from afar, ready to immerse yourselves in whatever your Tomorrowland journey had in store for you. The Global Journey Surprise Package fuelled that search for the unknown. And what a choice it turned out to be: spending three unforgettable nights in a luxury hotel in Brussels, only to be further amazed time and again by an almost unlimited amount of surprises tailor-made for those who aren’t afraid of serendipity.

WHERE LONG-AWAITED DREAMS COME TRUE For the intrepid campers among us, the Tomorrowland experience starts on DreamVille. Packed with heavy bags, surrounded by new friends and with their hearts filled with excitement, they enter the campgrounds. And for all of them, arrival at DreamVille means the next chapter of their experience finally begins. While looking for the perfect spot to set up their new homes, they meet their new neighbours - each of them with their own story, all from different countries, all come together on the green rolling hills of DreamVille.

D A I LY
WISDOM IN VINO VERITAS
A premium sparkling wine made from the finest quality grapes and cared for with love – a beautiful alliance between people and nature, vineyard and winegrowers, resulting in a unique gift from Mother Earth. Something you will only find in your favorite fancy restaurant? Not when it comes to the Limited Edition Solo Vida Reserva – exclusively harvested, aged and bottled for Tomorrowland. “This cava is meant to unite people,” winegrower Kiko says. We dove in deeper and asked him to tell his story. “The Solo Vida vineyards are a sacred place an hour from Barcelona, far away from people’s daily lives. Nature has embraced these beautiful vineyards in the mountains for centuries, and a mysterious tenth-century castle full of old stories oversees the growth of the grapes year after year. We believe that plants are encouraged by the silence of this area, the beauty of the landscape and the dedication of the winegrowers. This place is a secret symbol of ecology and unity, and it should be cherished. As you can hear, we have a special passion for these grounds and you will taste this in the cava,” Kiko smiles. “Solo Vida brings people together in the field of living, happiness, peace and love. That’s why our slogan is ‘bonding lives, magically’. To us, it is the perfect wine for the People of Tomorrow.” Have you become curious about this product of furious passion? You can buy your own bottle at the Solo Vida Fountainbar in the Mesa Garden. Or if you’re feeling lucky, send your best picture of yourself enjoying drinks with your friends to today@tomorrowland.com for a chance to win a bottle of Solo Vida Reserva. Celebrating beautiful moments together with friends is what the sparkling magic of Solo Vida is all about, after all!
SAVE YOUR SKIN
THREE WEEKS, THREE CHANNELS
The sun is beaming down upon you, beautiful People of Tomorrow! Please remember to save your skin, though, and apply sunscreen multiple times a day. Make sure to bring your sun lotion with you all day, every day! For yourself, of course, but also for your super-hot sunkissed crush! You’re welcome.
NEW RELEASE ALERT
AN ACADEMY FOR FUTURE LEGENDS Ever heard of the quote “The surest way to make your dreams come true is to live them?” Mentored by professional DJs, a couple of aspiring talents had a week of lessons in beatmatching, phasematching, using Rekordbox, EQ-ing & filtering, looping and other mixing basics at the Tomorrowland Academy – ending it by stealing the spotlights at the Youphoria stage. Alexander (12) and Simon (14) “We were super nervous throughout the week, but once you’re up on that legendary stage, you just feel so alive. It’s the first time for the both of us, but it will certainly not be the last.”
Soe (9) “As a dancer, I never have problems being on stage. Although I must say that this is a whole new level. My dream is to be an interior decorator, but I could definitely get used to this!’
DJ Koopmans (10) “Do you want my real name or my DJ name?” DJ Koopmans giggles. “You’ll see me at the Mainstage one day. Watch this space!”
THE REFLECTION OF LOVE
There’s always a way to hear, see and feel what’s going on at the Holy Grounds, even when for some reason you can’t move yourself and your tired dancing feet from DreamVille to Tomorrowland. If you ever find yourself in this situation, simply flick on the livestream. You can also tune in to it between the three Tomorrowland weekends, when it is the go-to place to review the performances of the previous weekend, and to preview those scheduled for the upcoming four days of magical madness. There are always three channels to choose from: the main feed, the alternative feed and the One World Radio feed, just like in the good old days of TV. The livestream is easy to access via Tomorrowland.com and the app.
German DJ & producer Topic is revealing his brand-new dance weapon ‘Saving Me’, exclusively released through Amazon Music today! Known for his emotional yet exhilarating dance sound, the internationally renowned and hotly in-demand artist has created an uplifting rework of his global smash hit ‘Breaking Me’, specially made for his performances at Tomorrowland this summer. ‘Saving Me’ has become an entirely new song with a new message and lyrics, fusing Topic’s unique trademark sound with vocals by American singer-songwriter Sasha Alex Sloan. Topic played his first Tomorrowland gig at the digital editions (Around the World), followed by a gig in the French mountains of Alpe d’Huez in March (Tomorrowland Winter), and is now taking over two times during the three weekends of Tomorrowland. First up: his performance tonight at The Library, 20h00. Check it out and experience his brandnew track live from the front row!
DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL TML APP The Tomorrowland grounds are vast, so finding your way around and making plans can be challenging. Over the course of these four days, the Tomorrowland App is your best friend, providing you with all the latest news and practical tips. It is also where you can listen to the Sound of Tomorrowland on One World Radio and watch the aftermovies from past editions. On top of that, the app offers exclusive mixes by artists associated with your beloved festival. 11

T H E G AT H E R I N G Uncovering the invisible ties of love between the People of Tomorrow
The Gathering is Tomorrowland’s one and only official opening party: the perfect way to set the mood for the weekend that awaits, with the best music to dance to. More than ever, this edition of the Gathering stood for unity. Unity in the form of love, reconciling with old friends, meeting & mingling with new ones and uniting with all parts of yourself. Of course, we had to visualize that, and what better way to do that than with – in Drake’s famous words – a tie that binds? That’s what we tried, at any rate. But the People of Tomorrow are not at all easy to tie down...
L’amour is French and so is this steaming hot couple! MARINE & MATHIEU, FRANCE
HANNAH & AMBER BELGIUM
“We’ve been friends for ages... we even lost count of how long it’s been exactly! Both of us work in the event industry and when we met, we instantly connected. We connect over our optimism and over wanting to live life to the fullest. Of course, our lifestyle has been a little different for the past two years. We’ve been to Tomorrowland before, but this edition certainly feels different. It’s like everybody needed to get together again on these grounds; and we can feel the love spreading around us. The music, the people, the ambiance... everything is just so warm. Life is definitely better when people are together.”

ANDREA AND FABRIZIO ITALY
Dude with sign, move over! Andrea and Fabrizio are on the Holy Grounds to collect moments and not things, and everybody must know. Andrea says: “It feels amazing being surrounded by so many like-minded spirits again. People are literally running up to us, asking to take a picture of us with the sign. Or just them with our sign, haha.” Fabrizio giggles: “That’s definitely what we wanted to do with it: to encourage people to not be attached to material things, but to live in the moment and connect with others. It’s been so long that we haven’t had the chance.” And both guys also really want to mention: “A big kiss from Ancona, Italy!”
SUSANA, JANE, MICHAEL AND JONAS CZECH REPUBLIC
We’re immediately drawn to the energy of Susana, Jane, Michael and Jonas, a group of friends from the Czech Republic. Susana tells us: “We’re so excited to be here, and that’s an understatement! We planned this visit almost three years ago, because we love everything the festival stands for. It symbolizes different people coming together, and celebrating life in each and every way possible.” Michael adds: “This festival unites the People of Tomorrow from every corner of the globe. The world needed this; and we needed this.”
MIGUÉL AND CÁTIA PORTUGAL
There can be no better companion than a brother, and no better friend than a sister. This saying certainly applies to Miguél and Cátia. When asked to say a few words about their bond as siblings, Miguél laughs: “It’s not great when other girls assume Cátia’s my girlfriend, but other than that, attending this amazing festival with your sister is pretty great. We’ve always said we wanted to come here. It took a while, but we finally made it. And it feels fantastic to be here for this special edition, where uniting with the other People of Tomorrow feels like a kind of rebirth.

HEALTH TIPS
HYDRATION RULES THE NATION Going mental to a sick beat… That’s what dance music is all about, right? But what if you or your friend actually go ‘mental’ or become seriously ill? No worries, there’s a team of doctors on the festival grounds and in surrounding hospitals to ensure your safety. We spoke to Chanelle De Winter, emergency doctor at AZ Rivierenland. She gave us her 4 golden survival tips for a healthy Tomorrowland:
I
DO SOMETHING GOOD TODAY THAT TOMORROW WILL THANK YOU FOR
?
1. HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE Chanelle: “Tomorrowland is huge, and the weather forecast for this weekend is hot. Even if you try to stay in the shade all day, you’ll never succeed. With these high temperatures, you’re at risk of a heatstroke or heat exhaustion. So in between all the pints, don’t forget to drink enough water.”
2. DON’T DO DRUGS “I know it’s an illusion to think no one will do any drugs at TML. But as a doctor, I must advise everyone not to. Most drugs increase the chances of things like heatstroke exponentionally, because they increase the core temperature of your body as well.”
3. IF YOU DO: HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE! “But if you do take drugs, you should be even more careful about your hydration levels and your body temperature. Besides drinking, you could also sprinkle yourself with water to cool down. The duration of an increased risk depends on the type of drug. Cocaine has a relatively short effect, but the effects of ketamine can last up to 12 hours.”
4. IN CASE OF DOUBT, VISIT FIRST AID “One of the symptoms of heatstroke is a state of confusion. This can obviously be enhanced by certain substances. If you’re feeling confused or you have a friend who is acting confused, don’t hesitate to bring them to First Aid. They can take their temperature and put your mind at ease. Never just put them in the shade somewhere to sleep it off, it’s too dangerous. Be smart, be safe, and don’t forget to have fun!” 18

House music is a feeling, and the same goes for any of the other genres of electronic music that are to be enjoyed at Tomorrowland. Music is what unites us, the People of Tomorrow, more than anything else. So get ready for it: in this section of today’s newspaper, you’ll read everything you didn’t realise you always wanted to know about the world’s most incredible DJs and producers. Reading artist bios and interviews, and studying Tomorrowland’s official timetable, is the best way to prepare yourself for the sonic splendour that awaits at the Holy Grounds. Enjoy!
KNTXT
ATMOSPHERE Charlotte de Witte’s brainchild KNTXT has developed into one of the strongest and most versatile techno labels since its first release saw the light of day only three years ago. More than just a label, KNTXT is first and foremostly a platform for up-and-coming producers to create the exact type of dancefloor magic they envision. As such, KNTXT is home to psy-infused techno by the incredibly talented Indira Paganotto as well as punishing four-tothe-floor beats by Onyvaa and Alignment. Today, all three of them play the KNTXT stage, alongside labelmate and De Witte’s fiancée Enrico Sangiuliano and techno veteran Chris Liebing, plus of course Charlotte herself.

DIPLO’S HIGHER GROUND CRYSTAL GARDEN
Diplo, the Californian king of all sounds, has ventured into many subgenres of dance music throughout his career, including baile funk, dancehall and EDM. Tomorrowland 2022 sees him present his new house music-centred label Higher Ground. It’s all super fresh still, and everything we know so far is that the label will release “everything from tech-house to deep/ melodic house, lo-fi to Afro-infused house, and everything in between.” Not much else is known of the project yet, so surely there will be lots to discover at the Crystal Garden today. Artists playing the stage are former One World Radio Future 4 selectee Guz, Toolroom associate Elliot Fitch, John Summit from house music’s birthplace Chicago, and of course Mr. Diplodocus himself.

AFROJACK & R3HAB STICKING TOGETHER THROUGH THE HARD TIMES Afrojack (Nick van de Wall) and R3HAB (Fadil El Ghoul) have been friends ever since their first release in 2007. Over the next fifteen years, the two Dutchmen put full focus on their own careers. During the pandemic, however, they finally found the time to connect in the studio again. Teaming up with singer Au/Ra, they wrote a track about sticking together through the hard times. They’re releasing this exciting collab on the newly forged label Tomorrowland Music. Not only is ‘Worlds on Fire’ Track of the Day today, but Nick and Fadil will also premiere it on the dancefloor tonight, during their b2b set on the Mainstage.
“The pause button was a great reset button”
22
What’s the best thing that has happened to you in the past year(s)? Nick: “I got married a year and a half ago, which is the best thing that has happened in my life. The second best thing was finally getting back together in the studio with my buddy Fadil again.” Fadil: “Haha, he’s lying about that last one! Although I must say, it has been truly great to make music together again. I’ve known Nick for over fifteen years, ever since our first release ‘Prutataaa’ in 2007. Fate has brought us together again, living only ten minutes away from each other in Belgium. Nick: “Well, I’m actually living with my wife in Milan, but I’ve built my studios in Kalmthout, and Fadil is living in Kapellen. Michiel Beers from Tomorrowland lives only 20 minutes away, so we’re all very close together. It’s a vibe here in Belgium, that’s for sure.” What about you, Fadil? What’s the best thing that has happened to you? Fadil: “Wow, good question... I think it’s the fact that I find myself at a point in my life and my career where I’m allowing myself to enjoy what’s going on right now, instead of being focused on what’s yet to come. I think the COVID period has made me realize how good it is to be back. Sometimes you tend to forget. The lockdown has also pointed out how much time I used to spend on irrelevant things. The pause button was a great reset button.” Nick: “Definitely. And without the travelling, everyone had much more time to spend in the studio.” Fadil: “Playfulness is an important element in music. After ten years in the ‘biz, it was great to have a break and to reconnect with that playfulness.” You’re releasing your track ‘Worlds on Fire’ today on Tomorrowland Music, and premiering it during your set at the Mainstage. How did this connection come about? Nick: “We have both been playing at Tomorrowland since basically forever. It’s one of the most important festivals in the world. So when they told us last year they were launching the label, it was a no-brainer for us to deliver a track for them. It’s awesome to be a part of this culture.” Fadil: “Releasing on Tomorrowland Music also gives our music a proper impact: the marketing, the artwork, the reach. We’re releasing on the same day as the set... everything just makes sense. Our track ‘Worlds on Fire’ also matches the look and feel of the festival and the label.” And how did you guys end up reconnecting? Nick: “We’re in an aggressive industry, with lots of agents, managers, and others profiting from artists’ successes. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but the personal connections you have with people are constantly disrupted from all sides. During COVID, when the entire industry came to a stop, I saw the human side surface. The situation brought out the best in

“It was great to have a break and reconnect with playfulness” people. Sometimes the worst, as well, but mostly the best. That’s also how Fadil and I got reconnected. We finally had the space for some quality (studio) time.” Can you tell us more about the track? How do you feel about working together with Au/Ra? Fadil: “Au/Ra did an amazing track with Camelphat, called ‘Panic Room’, so we were stoked to have her on board. When we were working together, I was also thrilled about her delivery. It really matches the feel and the lyrics of the track: ‘I won’t let you go/ Even if the world’s on fire/ Promise I’mma stay with you through the flames/ Hold you tighter.’ If the past few years have taught us anything, it’s definitely: no matter what happens, we’re in this together. That’s precisely the message we’re bringing with ‘Worlds on Fire’.”
TOMORROWLAND MUSIC Tomorrowland has always been about connecting people through music. Therefore, adding a music label to the family tree made perfect sense. Tomorrowland Music was launched in 2021, in collaboration with Universal Music Germany and Virgin Records Germany. Since then, tracks by the likes of Afrojack, Keanu Silva, Curbi, Chico Rose, and many more have been released. This past year has been quite the rollercoaster for Tomorrowland Music. Some of the highlights were Keanu Silva’s two singles, with ‘Hardcore Vibes’ receiving massive and long-lasting support on Spotify. Another milestone was the rebirth of the legendary Swedish dance producer Otto Knows, who has completely revamped his sound and style. Then there was the string of dancefloor weapons by the likes of Timmy Trumpet & Mariana Bo, Lucas & Steve, Goodboys and Curbi. And let’s not forget Afrojack’s new side project, called ‘Never Sleeps’. Not bad for a first year! To spice things up even more, Tomorrowland Music is now working on a ‘Reflection of Love’ collection of the best dance tracks of 2022 that will be released over the course of the summer. Also, each festival day, one track from the label is highlighted as Track of the Day. Keep an eye out in the Tomorrowland Today to find out what the track of the day is. In the coming three weeks, tracks by Lucas & Steve, Topic and some other big surprises will be featured. Today’s Track of the Day is ‘Worlds on Fire’ by Afrojack and R3HAB. You can check it out on Spotify – or better yet, hear them play it live at the Mainstage. So be sure to take your positions there at 19h40 to get the best possible experience!
TOMORROWLAND MUSIC TRACK OF THE DAY Afrojack & R3HAB ft. Au/Ra – Worlds on Fire A track about sticking together through the hard times, produced and written by Dutch legends Afrojack and R3HAB, together with Antiguan-German singer Au/Ra. Use the new single as the sound in your TikToks today, and you might be featured in the special fan video that will be made afterward!”

The idea behind the Daybreak Sessions is as follows: world class veteran DJs are invited to play an extended session with lower BPMs, packed with jams they usually don’t get to play out in clubs. It’s a concept so unique, One World Radio even named its breakfast show after it. Whilst the sessions are all about easing into the day, this first one of 2022 is far from casual. With a wide range of activities on his resume including heading the Hot Creations label, curating his own Paradise events series, and being a core member of the wildly eclectic group Hot Natured, playing a Daybreak Session will be right up Jamie Jones’s alley. A lot of the electronic music we listen and move to these days feels warm, positive and melodic and is miles away from the harsher, more minimal styles that people used to associate the genre with. One of the architects of that sound is – you’ve guessed it – Jamie Jones. His love for house, deep house and wide knowledge of the history of pop music is always noticeable while he plays his techno. This man clearly doesn’t think in terms of genres. Instead, he blends his favourite abstract club sounds with vocal cuts such as Darius Syrossian’s White Rabbit, a dance floor version of the classic track by legendary San Francisco band Jefferson Airplane. Expect a set where house and techno are the ‘teachers’, with lots of hints and snippets of interesting musical genres of the past. So make your way to the Mainstage early to step onto the dancefloor, have breakfast there and learn more about the history of music while you listen to the incredible Mr. Jamie Jones!

Over the course of his 15+ year career, Headhunterz has come to know all the tricks of his trade, from the Project One tracks with Wildstylez to his ventures into EDM a few years back and a heartfelt return to his hardstyle roots from 2017 onwards. With only one week to go until the first Headhunterz release in nearly two years’ time, and his set at Tomorrowland so close you can nearly touch it, there’s a lot to talk about with Willem Rebergen. surface. You have to make an effort to find it; it won’t find you, if that “I favour breakdowns over build-ups as I think the latter don’t really You say you are the owner of an orange heart. REINIER ZONNEVELD (LIVE) MAINSTAGE | 18H40
DIPLO
Dutch techno don Reinier “Filth on Acid” Zonneveld hardly needs an introduction, but here you go. As one of the few on the scene, Reinier always plays his techno live, using vintage drum computers and synthesisers including the legendary Roland TR-909, which was manufactured in 1980. The good thing is, Reinier has an incredibly large and high-quality catalogue to choose from, so his sets are always different from one another. He often utters the phrase “karren maar” when he’s about to drop some hard-hitting acid techno, which translates into something like: “pedal to the metal!” If you’ve got some energy to spare, you might as well head to the Mainstage today as Reinier’s live sets really are something else.
HIGHER GROUND | CRYSTAL GARDEN | 20H30
One of the most versatile producers on the global dance scene, Diplo is now 43 years old and has done almost literally everything in his career. His debut album ‘Florida’, dating from 2004, had a real triphop vibe to it and strangely felt like it came out of California, due to its resemblance to DJ Shadow’s groundbreaking classic ‘Endtroducing…..’. Diplo then went on to explore numerous other genres, starting with baile funk, making the heavy-hitting Brazilian take on gangster rap known to music lovers in countries outside Latin America. Having had his fill of Rio, the maverick moved on to find inspiration in the sounds of Jamaica, resulting in some excellent output as Major Lazer, an incredibly successful dancehall ensemble with which Diplo will also perform today at Tomorrowland. Meanwhile, Diplo did production work for his then-girlfriend indie pop star M.I.A. and went on to collaborate with some of the world’s biggest stars including Madonna, Snoop Dogg, Skrillex, and Justin Bieber. As a DJ, Diplo is unrivalled in blending sounds from all over the world into a funky mix of sexy, bass-heavy dance floor cuts. So that means a lot of not so wellknown reggae, Latin and African flavours played side by side, mixed with catchy pop and EDM snippets you can sing along to. You’ve guessed it, Diplo can go literally any direction. Hell, he may even blend some ‘60s pop into his heavy-duty dance beats. Are you ready to have your mind blown?

CHICO ROSE
HARDWELL
THE LIBRARY | 16H00
MAINSTAGE | 22H50
Rotterdam-born, Ibiza-based DJ/producer Chico Rose started his career at a young age and got picked up quickly by Dutch hot shots such as Vato Gonzalez and Nicky Romero, who both released some of his music on their labels. Then Afrojack - also from the Rotterdam area - discovered Chico’s music, and they soon became friends. Musically, Chico specialises in the whole spectrum of house music including slap house but also deep house. His biggest success to date is 2020’s ‘Somebody’s Watching Me’, an infectious modern take on the original 1984 smash hit that featured vocals by Michael Jackson. Look it up online - it’s an excellent starting point to further explore this great producer’s music.
He’s finally back: Hardwell, the much-loved DJ from Breda in the Netherlands who ranked number one twice in the Top 100 DJs. The unofficial king of big room house has a new album coming up with a world tour supporting it: ‘Rebels Never Die’. His performances at Tomorrowland’s famous Mainstage will no doubt be a highlight of his world tour. With so many hits to his name, including ‘Spaceman’, ‘Apollo’, ‘Off the Hook’ and ‘How We Do’, plus some new pumping bangers on his new record, this comeback set will no doubt be jam-packed with goodies. If you’re into bombastic and emotional electronic music, then Hardwell’s performance is certainly not to be missed, and something you’ll probably always remember. THE REFLECTION OF LOVE

REFLECT THE MUSIC DRUM ‘N BASS The Reflection of Love is all about unity – a unity of loving souls, but also a gathering of widely disparate music styles. For those that like to brush up on their musical knowledge, or explore a set of sounds they’ve not danced to before, we take a deep dive into the history of one genre found at Tomorrowland. Getting the ball rolling at high speeds today is one of the UK’s most recognisable sounds – drum ‘n bass.
ENRICO SANGUILIANO
FISHER
KNTXT | ATMOSPHERE | 21H00
MAINSTAGE | 20H40
Cassette decks and drum machines to begin with? Not for the young Enrico, who started out playing on pots and pans, school benches, traffic signs and a drum kit whilst growing up in Emilia Romagna in the north of Italy. He soon realised that with computers he could create more abstract sounds and then went on to continue making music digitally. It wasn’t long before Enrico started DJ’ing in his area, initially mostly at illegal rave parties. In recent years, Enrico released his tracks on some of the world’s leading labels like Drumcode and Truesoul, gaining support from top notch artists such as Sven Väth, Charlotte de Witte, Adam Beyer, Joseph Capriati and many more.
Hailing from the Gold Coast in Australia, Paul Nicholas Fisher turned his surfing career into a DJ career. Not so strange a twist, if you think about it, as surfers generally like to party. After releasing a few singles over the course of 2017 and 2018 including ‘Ya Kidding’ and ‘Crowd Control’, Fisher was able to take his career to another level after the release of ‘Losing It’, a track with an unstoppable groove that became an instant global club hit. The title of the track perfectly summarizes Fisher’s view on life, where partying always seems to take centre stage. This showman from Down Under named one of his more recent bangers ‘Slow Down’, but believe us, that’s just to trick you.
LISTEN TO T H E LOV E LY S OU N D S Characterized by breakneck tempos and ample use of complex, energizing percussion patterns, drum ‘n bass (dnb) was born in the UK in the mid-‘90s. The sound is a descendant of UK/breakbeat hardcore by way of the so-called ‘jungle’ scene, from where it inherited the practice of sampling drum breaks from old funk and disco records, recomposing them into something entirely new. One particularly well-known example is the ‘Amen’ break, taken from The Winstons’ ‘Amen, Brother’, which can be found from N.W.A’s ‘Straight Outta Compton’ to The Prodigy’s ‘Mindfields’ to classic dnb tracks such as Chase & Status’ ‘Hurt You’. Like many UK genres, dnb also incorporates influences from the Jamaican dub and reggae scenes: chiefly, deep, chest-rattling basslines that will readily transport you into a dancing frenzy. The style’s two basic elements – the drum and the bass – have evolved into many different subgenres over the years, from relatively easygoing liquid drum ‘n bass to the highoctane, precision-engineered, face-melting sounds of neurofunk. Today, you’ll find your dnb fix mostly at The Rose Garden, where Belgium’s biggest dnb brand Rampage is taking over. From Fox Stevenson’s hyperpop-infused, melodic style to a crash course in big room-proof sounds by Murdock, you’ll never stand still for a second here. On Saturday, Cage is the place to be as Star Warz hosts another barrage of breaks, while Sunday’s Monstercat hosting at Youphoria will probably also see some dnb being played. Can we get an “Amen?”

IDA ENGBERG
PAUL ELSTAK
FREEDOM BY BUDWEISER | 19H00
YOUPHORIA | PUSSY LOUNGE | 23H00
Versatility is the key word in this Swedish techno producer’s resumé. While the futuristic robotic sound of Detroit is at the foundations of most of her work, she’s also ventured into projects with vocalists such as Icelandic star Björk, with whom she released her debut single ‘Disco Volante’ back in 2007. More recently, Ida has collaborated with house producers such as Roger Sanchez, Sebastian Ingrosso, and fellow Swedes Eric Prydz and John Dahlbäck. Naturally, you’ll hear a wide variety of sounds in her sets: expect anything from minimal to electro and from funky techno to tech house. Interesting fact: Ida married Drumcode label boss Adam Beyer in 2016 and they have three children together.
The Hague-born DJ/producer Paul Elstak eventually became mostly associated with another city: Rotterdam. The hardcore producer even started a record label named after his new hometown. Back in the 1990s, the hardcore scene in the Netherlands was dominated by fierce inter-city rivalry between Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Hence the name Rotterdam Records, which was part of a mockery strategy targeting Amsterdam. Think whatever you want, but the label turned out to be a big success and so is the label Elstak runs to this date: Offensive Records. As a DJ, Elstak plays exactly what you’ll want to hear today: a hyper-energetic blend of hardcore and the more melodic genre of happy hardcore. 27
