MAGICAL FRIDAY
2022 BELGIUM
TODAY, WE BEGIN AGAIN! FIND LOVE ALL AROUND THE HOLY GROUNDS Here we are again, friends. Still abuzz from last night’s adventures, longing to see what lies beyond that short, tantalizing walk up to the Holy Grounds themselves. You’re almost there – right upon the precipice, readied by a Gathering that saw love reactivated in your heart. Not just any kind of love, mind, but a particular, thrilling, all-encompassing feeling, a connection not just between you and those around you, but between you and all of the tens of thousands of souls come together to celebrate Tomorrow once again. It is up to you, now, to reflect all
that – the magic felt at the Gathering, the presence of all of those like-minded humans, your deep affection for your friends – into a first day of Tomorrowland never to forget. Where will it take you, beyond the eternal spectacle of the Mainstage? Will you reunite with the watchful dragon of the Rose Garden? Go down the rabbit hole in the forests of Core? Enjoy a well-deserved rest at the Freedom waterfalls, maybe? In the end, perhaps it doesn’t even matter so much, friends. What matters is you’re here, and today we finally begin. Welcome home.
LOVING THE MUSIC OPEN YOUR HEART TO THE HARMONIES
On this first official day of Tomorrowland 2022, the grounds are still fresh and damp, and as nature starts to warm up again, you are probably ready to get steamy. Today’s line-up is nothing short of overwhelming, so you are about to make some tough choices – but here’s some tips to get you started. Why not ease into the day with your breakfast of choice whilst Hot Creations head honcho Jamie Jones plays his first ever Daybreak Session? Then you can move on to shows by EDM and future bass maestros like Steve Aoki, Alan Walker, Timmy Trumpet and NERVO. Meanwhile, don’t forget to squeeze a little techno into your day with Berghain resident Ben Klock, or some unadulterated party vibes with Yellow Claw. Last but not least, always take your time to look around every single corner, as that’s where you’ll generally discover the latest electronic sounds. Today will be one to remember – enjoy!

BELGIUM 2022
FLY LIKE AN EAGLE TAKE-OFF TO DESTINATION: TOMORROWLAND Your Tomorrowland experience starts as soon as you leave home and the journey, alone or with friends, is always fun and exciting. But there is one particular way to make your trip to Tomorrowland truly unforgettable, and that’s by taking an official Partyflight, all geared up with DJs, glowsticks and extraordinarily festive vibes for party peeps just like yourself. This year, for the first time in three years, Brussels Airlines transformed flights from all over Europe into official, exclusive TML Partyflights. Some of these are carried out by the amazing Amare, an airplane unlike any other: it resembles a mythical bird and symbolises some of Tomorrowland’s most important values, such as love, friendship, and unity. Last weekend, Amare arrived in Brussels from Oslo, with an incredible pre-party on board. Want to know more? Keep reading!
Raving in a departure lounge? Sounds mad, but it’s exactly the way a Partyflight to the Holy Grounds starts when Amare is your preferred choice of travel. Picture ultra-energetic vibes with dancers who haven’t slept much due to their excitement for what’s awaiting them. They move to a selection of house and tech house, played by a DJ looking somewhat bewildered at what on Earth is happening around him. Drinks are served, and so is food, for anyone who can find the time to eat in between moving their dancing feet. Then, slowly, the partyhopping experience enters a new phase as everyone moves toward Brussels Airlines’ most extravagantly decorated Airbus A320. Once inside, the mostly Norwegian music heads start singing their favourite songs as they receive their exclusive and limited TML Partyflight glowsticks, while they wait for some official magical 4
announcements to be made. They don’t have to wait long, as the fancylooking cabin crew enters the stage with some choreographed ‘safety instructions’ which officially set off the Partyflight. Will the official Tomorrowland dance, as shown by the cabin crew, end up going viral? If you come across groups of people putting their fists forward and upward before they make heart figures with both hands, then you’ll know the answer… Amare’s out-of-the-ordinary soundtrack, meanwhile, is provided by British production duo The Goodboys, the people behind this newspaper’s first Track of the Day: a banging track called ‘Jack Flip’. The two are the perfect fit for this flight, as a big part of the reason they started collaborating is them watching Tomorrowland aftermovies together in their younger years. Their set is a combination of their own
productions with some true Tomorrowland classics everyone on the plane can relate to. Tomorrowland takes pride in uniting people for life, and that’s exactly what’s already happening on board Amare. Some people on the flight have never met before, but they’ve already decided to camp together at DreamVille, or to meet up again during the festival at the very least. Take Martina and Janine from the Oslo region; they’ve only just met and already agreed to check out the drum & bass stage curated by Netsky, and the never-seen-before Reflection of Love Mainstage. Clearly, the Partyflight reflects the love that the People of Tomorrow instinctively share!

GLOBAL JOURNEY PACKAGES Global Journey offers a lot of different options to choose from, with a way of travelling suited to everyone’s taste. Here are some of the packages available. Which will you choose next year? Torkel & Eddie Torkel from Trondheim and Eddie from Oslo feel like Hobbits going on one big adventure. Funny thing is, 2022’s theme, The Reflection of Love, seems to be right up their alley, as the two used to be a married couple until just a few years ago. “We called each other when we heard about the theme,” says Eddie. “We haven’t seen each other for one and a half years, but Torkel has been stalking me a little online. It’s OK, our take on love is going to be friendship, starting from today!’’
FLIGHT PACKAGES Come fly with me… After a three-year break, our People of Tomorrow have been boarding planes from every corner of the world again to start their Global Journey. The really lucky ones? They’re the people on board of those soaring Partyflights, of course! Coming in from far and wide, and always with a rave on board, the spellbinding expedition called Global Journey starts high up in the air on these.
TRAIN PACKAGES Take the railroad! Travelling by train from Europe’s most buzzing cities with a great aerial connection: it’s the Global Journey at its whizzing best. With departures from Paris, Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, London and Rotterdam, Europe has been lying at our rail travellers’ feet from the get-go. HOTEL PACKAGES Welcome home Offering a wide range of accommodations, this package includes a hotel experience curated for the People of Tomorrow. It is also fully customizable, offering travellers their own choice of preferred check-in and check-out dates – and a chance to create a dream itinerary, with the option to include the Belgium Journey and Invited Brussels deals.
Jorun & Maggie Energetic old friends Jorun and Maggie from Kristiansand dropped everything for their first ever TML Partyflight. “This trip has been in the making for many years – it’s been a dream since 2006. The day of our lives has finally arrived. Flying will never be the same after this magical journey.” Their tips for this weekend? “Armin van Buuren, Alesso and Timmy Trumpet!”
BUS PACKAGES Time to hop on Asphalt burning! Hop on the Global Journey bus for miles and miles of memories and newfound friendships or get some advance sleeping in on the road. Once arrived at the campsite, special hosts lead the way to a comfortable DreamVille stay. The only thing left for guests to do is to dive right into the magic – and the madness.
FRIENDSHIP TRAVEL PACKAGE Family in the making! Sharing this Tomorrowland experience means extending it. Friendship Travel Packages offer a carefully selected range of B&Bs, houses, villas, apartments, and hostels all aimed at staying together on and off-site. No need to worry about transportation either, as that’s also covered! The Friendship Travel Packages are all about deepening friendships new and old, giving meaning to that ultimate Reflection of Love.
DISCOVER EUROPE Wanderlust at its finest
Daniel, Kristoffer, Ola and Ludwig This group first travelled to Oslo from their village in the frosty far north of Norway. Daniel and Ludwig have known each other forever – they’re brothers, after all – and they met the others about ten years back through their shared passion for electronic music. The four have dreamt about going to Tomorrowlad since middle school and always knew they’d travel there with the incredible bird-plane Amare. They’re most excited to check out every single stage and to see Alesso, Martin Garrix and Paul Kalkbrenner this weekend. “Everyone else should see them too,” says Ludwig. THE REFLECTION OF LOVE
What if we were to tell you that you could roam the streets of Amsterdam, get lost in the narrow streets of Barça, discover Berlin by bicycle, or explore Ibiza all by opting for Discover Europe? Those who went for it are in the know: this was an unforgettable, life-changing experience, marked by new everlasting friendships – the perfect buildup to your Tomorrowland experience.
SURPRISE PACKAGE Open minds, open hearts Most of you came from afar, ready to immerse yourselves in whatever your Tomorrowland journey had in store for you. The Global Journey Surprise Package fuelled that search for the unknown. And what a choice it turned out to be: spending three unforgettable nights in a luxury hotel in Brussels, only to be further amazed time and again by an almost unlimited amount of surprises tailor-made for those who aren’t afraid of serendipity.

WHERE LONG-AWAITED DREAMS COME TRUE For the intrepid campers among us, the Tomorrowland experience starts on DreamVille. Packed with heavy bags, surrounded by new friends and with their hearts filled with excitement, they enter the campgrounds. For some, the journey to get here has been long and arduous, others had a short ‘n sweet trip; they’ve taken trains, busses, cars and airplanes to finally reunite here and share love, energy, and memories. And for all of them, arrival at DreamVille means the next chapter of their experience finally begins. While looking for the perfect spot to set up their new homes, they meet their new neighbours - each of them with their own story, all from different countries, all come together on the green rolling hills of DreamVille.

“We all brought costumes! We wouldn’t have cared if we left the tents at home, but the beer and costumes are important. This weekend the T in T-Rex stands for Tomorrowland,” Marine, Jon and Jonathan from Belgium explain.
Belgian fan Louis is not shy about his love for TML. “I’ve been to Tomorrowland 10 times! And I got Tomorrowland tattooed on my arm as well. Most parents don’t like it when their kids get tattoos, but my mom loved it so much she paid for it!”
“We’ve all had to wait for this,” German camper Lisa says elatedly. “So much energy has been building up inside of me. I know this weekend will be full of dancing, but I just can’t stop my feet from moving already!”
“Israel is all desert; it almost never rains,” say Roni, Ital, Shay and Tal about their homeland. “This is so different and we’re a bit surprised – but we love it! You just need to embrace it and everything will fall into place!”

“We can’t believe we made it,” Francisco, Carina, Karim and their Mexican comrades exclaim. “This was quite the journey, but now that we’re here, it feels like there’s nothing holding us back anymore.”
“Juliano bought the hat in Thailand,” Samuel says about his Brazilian mate. “When I first saw it on him I knew I had to have one just like it. So I went and found one in Brazil to wear it with him here. Pokéboys all the way, baby!”
Portuguese friends Telmo, Mariana, Paolo, Pedro, Sofia and Rafael have a dream: “We named our group ‘Andamento’, which means to progress and go forward. That’s what it’s all about. We can’t spread our wings without memories, so let’s make some together!”
Arlene, Donal, Sean and their Irish friends appreciate the simpler things in life and Tomorrowland clearly aligns with that preference. “This feels so simple – just be here, party, scream and have a few drinks. Imagine all of life was like that…”
“A cheese fondue on a camping ground might be weird to some – but what better way is there to represent Switzerland at DreamVille?” Stefan and his Swiss crew have their culinary priorities figured out. “Plus… It’s great for when you’re hungover!”
“We’ve been here before, so we know it’s gonna be a crazy ride. When the moment comes, it’s all about hanging on and having a fun time. Wohooo!” Olivier, Lara and Sten from Belgium are clearly having a ball at DreamVille this year.

Life is short, buy the hat Moost & The Muse by Moost Wanted As the weather forecast is nothing but sunny for the rest of the weekend, wearing sunscreen is highly recommended. D A I LY
WISDOM IN VINO VERITAS
A premium sparkling wine made from the finest quality grapes and cared for with love – a beautiful alliance between people and nature, vineyard and winegrowers, resulting in a unique gift from Mother Earth. Something you will only find in your favorite fancy restaurant? Not when it comes to the Limited Edition Solo Vida Reserva – exclusively harvested, aged and bottled for Tomorrowland. “This cava is meant to unite people,” winegrower Kiko says. We dove in deeper and asked him to tell his story. “The Solo Vida vineyards are a sacred place an hour from Barcelona, far away from people’s daily lives. Nature has embraced these beautiful vineyards in the mountains for centuries, and a mysterious tenth-century castle full of old stories oversees the growth of the grapes year after year. We believe that plants are encouraged by the silence of this area, the beauty of the landscape and the dedication of the winegrowers. This place is a secret symbol of ecology and unity, and it should be cherished. As you can hear, we have a special passion for these grounds and you will taste this in the cava,” Kiko smiles. “Solo Vida brings people together in the field of living, happiness, peace and love. That’s why our slogan is ‘bonding lives, magically’. To us, it is the perfect wine for the People of Tomorrow.”
FEELING LUCKY? Have you become curious about Solo Vida? You can buy a bottle at the Solo Vida Fountainbar in the Mesa Garden. Or... send your best picture of yourself enjoying drinks with your friends to today@tomorrowland.com for a chance to win a bottle for free. Celebrating beautiful moments together with friends is what the sparkling magic of Solo Vida is all about, after all!
THREE WEEKS, THREE CHANNELS
AN ACADEMY FOR FUTURE LEGENDS A 2022 premiere: the all-new Tomorrowland Academy is where students are taught essential DJ skills including beatmatching, EQ-ing, filtering and looping. Music production and artist management workshops are also part of the package. This week’s sessions are for beginners, whilst the advanced-level course is on next week, from 25 to 28 July. Rounding out the programme is an exclusive performance at the larger-than-life Youphoria stage before the festival opens. A unique opportunity for all involved!
There’s always a way to hear, see and feel what’s going on at the Holy Grounds, even when for some reason you can’t move yourself and your tired dancing feet from DreamVille to Tomorrowland. If you ever find yourself in this situation, simply flick on the livestream. You can also tune in to it between the three Tomorrowland weekends, when it is the go-to place to review the performances of the previous weekend, and to preview those scheduled for the upcoming four days of magical madness. There are always three channels to choose from: the main feed, the alternative feed and the One World Radio feed, just like in the good old days of TV. The livestream is easy to access via Tomorrowland.com and the app.
Sven (29) from Switzerland loves MC’ing while his brother Robin (26) blasts out the tunes. “We wanted to improve our skills, show what we can do, and also expand our network. We managed to do all of that this week.” Christian (21) came all the way from house music capital Chicago to brush up his skills. “When I saw the best festival in the world offering a DJ and production course, it was impossible for me to pass on the opportunity. It’s been a great decision, I’ve learned so much!” Course teacher Lavanya aka DJ Kendis (19) has DJ’d internationally for 10 (!) years despite her young age. “The first edition of Tomorrowland Academy has been intense but fruitful and we’ve all become friends. This course doesn’t just teach you how to become a DJ and produce; it also gives you a peek into the life of an artist.” THE REFLECTION OF LOVE
A NEW TRACK TO SAVE YOU German DJ & producer Topic just revealed his brand-new dance weapon ‘Saving Me’, exclusively released through Amazon Music. Known for his emotional yet exhilarating dance sound, the internationally renowned and hotly in-demand artist has created an uplifting rework of his global hit ‘Breaking Me’, especially made for his performances at Tomorrowland this summer. ‘Saving Me’ is an entirely new song with a new message and lyrics, fusing Topic’s trademark sound with vocals by American singersongwriter Sasha Alex Sloan. Topic played his first Tomorrowland gig at the digital editions (Around the World), followed by a gig in the French mountains of Alpe d’Huez in March (Tomorrowland Winter) and is now taking over two times during the three weekends of Tomorrowland. Last week he let the Library explode, next week he’ll bring his tunes to the Mainstage. Get in the right vibe for the weekend and check out his new song with the QR code!
DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL TML APP The Tomorrowland grounds are vast, so finding your way around and making plans can be challenging. Over the course of these four days, the Tomorrowland App is your best friend, providing you with all the latest news and practical tips. It is also where you can listen to the Sound of Tomorrowland on One World Radio and watch the aftermovies from past editions. On top of that, the app offers exclusive mixes by artists associated with your beloved festival. 11

IT’S A WRAP!
“Dancing is our life. Today, we’ve danced for five hours already, and do we look tired?” GAETAN & JONATHAN, FRANCE
T H E G AT H E R I N G Uncovering the ties of love between the People of Tomorrow
The Gathering is Tomorrowland’s one and only official opening party: the perfect way to set the mood for the weekend that awaits, with the best music to dance to. More than ever, this edition of the Gathering stood for unity. Unity in the form of love, reconciling with old friends, meeting & mingling with new ones and uniting with all parts of yourself. Of course, we had to visualize that, and what better way to do that than with – in Drake’s famous words – a tie that binds? That’s what we tried, at any rate. But the People of Tomorrow are not at all easy to tie down...
The Gathering reflects the love to be shared over the weekend. FLORIAN & CLAIRE, FRANCE
VICTORIA & CRISTOPHE GUADELOUPE & LORRAINE (FR)
Christophe is over the moon with the Tomorrowland ring he recently got from his girlfriend Victoria, whom he met six years ago in a Parisian Japanese restaurant. “The gift turned out to be prophetic, because look where we are now,” says Christophe. “DreamVille already feels like a dream.” Victoria and Christophe carry flags from different parts of the francophone world. Victoria’s flag represents the Northern French Lorraine region, known for its creamy quiche Lorraine, and Christophe’s flag is from the Carribean island of Guadeloupe. Now that these two lovebirds have pitched their tent, they are more than ready to party!

LUIS & ESTEFANY MEXICO
Meet Luis and Estefany, who flew to Boom all the way from Mexico. Travelling with the couple is cute baby Benito. “Benito is an easy baby,” says Luis. “He sleeps really well and whenever there are people around he always pulls a friendly smile. Benito isn’t a real baby, we know that. You should also know that for now, I am the parent who is taking care of him. Our lives are the opposite of what is customary in Mexico. I taking care of the cleaning and the cooking and Estefany earns the money for all of us. If all goes well with little Benito on this trip, we may soon start a real family”.
SAM & DEBBIE UNITED KINGDOM
Sam and Debbie from the UK are childhood sweethearts who’ve been together for no less than 14 years. “Don’t say that to everyone!” Debbie scolds while Sam brags about it. “Sam is the romantic type, I’m not,” she explains. Romantic or not, it’s more than obvious that Debbie is more than happy with the present Sam gave her for her 30th birthday. “Tomorrowland has been on our bucketlist for years.” Both Sam and Debbie love house music more than any other genre. Who do they look forward to seeing the most? “Fisher, of course!”
ROSSI & JOSEPHINE SINGAPORE & CHINA
Rossi from Singapore and Josephine from China are in-laws. Josephine is married to Rossi’s brother, who will arrive later today. The two are part of a larger family of semi-professional ravers who travel the world to visit bush doofs – Australian-style outback raves – and festivals. Now guess their favourite event? “We love buying souvenirs and merch online,” says Rossi. “By wearing it and showing it to people in our countries, we like to think that we contribute to Tomorrowland becoming even more famous. The fact that Tomorrowland is finally back in 2022 is priceless. We’ve missed it so much!”

HEALTH TIPS
HYDRATION RULES THE NATION Going mental to a sick beat… That’s what dance music is all about, right? But what if you or your friend actually go ‘mental’ or become seriously ill? No worries, there’s a team of doctors on the festival grounds and in surrounding hospitals to ensure your safety. We spoke to Chanelle De Winter, emergency doctor at AZ Rivierenland. She gave us her 4 golden survival tips for a healthy Tomorrowland:
I
DO SOMETHING GOOD TODAY THAT TOMORROW WILL THANK YOU FOR
?
1. HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE Chanelle: “Tomorrowland is huge, and the weather forecast for this weekend is hot. Even if you try to stay in the shade all day, you’ll never succeed. With these high temperatures, you’re at risk of a heatstroke or heat exhaustion. So in between all the pints, don’t forget to drink enough water.”
2. DON’T DO DRUGS “I know it’s an illusion to think no one will do any drugs at TML. But as a doctor, I must advise everyone not to. Most drugs increase the chances of things like heatstroke exponentionally, because they increase the core temperature of your body as well.”
3. IF YOU DO: HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE! “But if you do take drugs, you should be even more careful about your hydration levels and your body temperature. Besides drinking, you could also sprinkle yourself with water to cool down. The duration of an increased risk depends on the type of drug. Cocaine has a relatively short effect, but the effects of ketamine can last up to 12 hours.”
4. IN CASE OF DOUBT, VISIT FIRST AID “One of the symptoms of heatstroke is a state of confusion. This can obviously be enhanced by certain substances. If you’re feeling confused or you have a friend who is acting confused, don’t hesitate to bring them to First Aid. They can take their temperature and put your mind at ease. Never just put them in the shade somewhere to sleep it off, it’s too dangerous. Be smart, be safe, and don’t forget to have fun!” 18

House music is a feeling, and the same goes for any of the other genres of electronic music that are to be enjoyed at Tomorrowland. Music is what unites us, the People of Tomorrow, more than anything else. So get ready for it: in this section of today’s newspaper, you’ll read everything you didn’t realise you always wanted to know about the world’s most incredible DJs and producers. Reading artist bios and interviews, and studying Tomorrowland’s official timetable, is the best way to prepare yourself for the sonic splendour that awaits at the Holy Grounds. Enjoy!
ADRIATIQUE CORE
Have you ever thought it would be insightful to catch a glimpse of the musical preferences of some of your favourite artists? Fans of Swiss house and techno duo Adriatique are in for a treat this weekend, as the two Adrians have been asked to invite the artists that inspired them to create their slow-building, hypnotic music. It comes as no surprise, then, that the DJs on today’s line-up are typical artist’s artists; producers of subtle music who can count on the appreciation of their peers. Among them are dark techno producer Axel Haube, Slovenian selector Brina Knauss, the ever-melodic Innellea, talented up-and-comer Marino Canal, Adriatique’s longtime friend Shiffer and of course the two legends themselves.

BARONG FAMILY THE ROSE GARDEN
Barong Family, the illustrious record label by Amsterdam-based, hard-hitting production team Yellow Claw, exists to defy genres, to shock and to provide material to party to. The world of club music used to be one of compartments. Musicians, whether they liked it or not, were subject to severe pigeonholing practices by journalists and audiences alike. House artists couldn’t make a hiphop record or the other way around. Barong Family couldn’t be further removed from that archaic culture. They instead celebrate music in all its forms with a focus on bass house, hardstyle, trap and jungle terror. Sounds like a party? Damn right it’ll be a good one, with sets by the incredibly funky RayRay, hardcore kings Dither & Sihk and of course Yellow Claw themselves.

AFROJACK & R3HAB STICKING TOGETHER THROUGH THE HARD TIMES On his road to greatness, bringing him to both the top of the charts and to the decks of the Mainstage, Afrojack (Nick van de Wall) has made countless friends along the way. Ever since their first collab in 2007, his friendship with R3HAB (Fadil El Ghoul) has been a special one, though. Now, after 15 years, they have finally decided to team up again for another smasher. ‘Worlds on Fire’, which features Au/Ra on vocals, emphasizes how important it is to stick together during times of hardship and adversity. Ahead of their joint performance in Weekend 1, and Afrojack’s Mainstage set this weekend, we sat down with the two legends for a chat about life, friendship and music.
“The pause button was a great reset button”
22
What’s the best thing that has happened to you in the past year(s)? Nick: “I got married a year and a half ago, which is the best thing that has happened in my life. The second best thing was finally getting back together in the studio with my buddy Fadil again.” Fadil: “Haha, he’s lying about that last one! Although I must say, it has been truly great to make music together again. I’ve known Nick for over fifteen years, ever since our first release ‘Prutataaa’ in 2007. Fate has brought us together again, living only ten minutes away from each other in Belgium. Nick: “Well, I actually life in Milan with my wife, but I’ve built my studios in Kalmthout, and Fadil lives in Kapellen. Michiel Beers from Tomorrowland lives only 20 minutes away, so we’re all very close together. It’s a vibe here in Belgium, that’s for sure.” What about you, Fadil? What’s the best thing that has happened to you? Fadil: “Wow, good question... I think it’s the fact that I find myself at a point in my life and my career where I’m allowing myself to enjoy what’s going on right now, instead of being focused on what’s yet to come. I think the COVID period has made me realize how good it is to be back. Sometimes you tend to forget. The lockdown has also pointed out how much time I used to spend on irrelevant things. The pause button was a great reset button.” Nick: “Definitely. And without the travelling, everyone had much more time to spend in the studio.” Fadil: “Playfulness is an important element in music. After ten years in the ‘biz, it was great to have a break and to reconnect with that playfulness.” You’re releasing your track ‘Worlds on Fire’ on Tomorrowland Music, and premiering it during your set at the Mainstage. How did this connection come about? Nick: “We have both been playing at Tomorrowland since basically forever. It’s one of the most important festivals in the world. So when they told us last year they were launching the label, it was a no-brainer for us to deliver a track for them. It’s awesome to be a part of this culture.” Fadil: “Releasing on Tomorrowland Music also gives our music a proper impact: the marketing, the artwork, the reach. We’re releasing on the same day as the set... everything just makes sense. Our track ‘Worlds on Fire’ also matches the look and feel of the festival and the label.” And how did you guys end up reconnecting? Nick: “We’re in an aggressive industry, with lots of agents, managers, and others profiting from artists’ successes. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but the personal connections you have with people are constantly disrupted from all sides. During COVID, when the entire industry came to a stop, I saw the human side surface. The situation brought out the best in

“It was great to have a break and reconnect with playfulness” people. Sometimes the worst, as well, but mostly the best. That’s also how Fadil and I got reconnected. We finally had the space for some quality (studio) time.” Can you tell us more about the track? How do you feel about working together with Au/Ra? Fadil: “Au/Ra did an amazing track with Camelphat, called ‘Panic Room’, so we were stoked to have her on board. When we were working together, I was also thrilled about her delivery. It really matches the feel and the lyrics of the track: ‘I won’t let you go/ Even if the world’s on fire/ Promise I’mma stay with you through the flames/ Hold you tighter.’ If the past few years have taught us anything, it’s definitely: no matter what happens, we’re in this together. That’s precisely the message we’re bringing with ‘Worlds on Fire’.”
TOMORROWLAND MUSIC Tomorrowland has always been about connecting people through music. Therefore, adding a music label to the family tree made perfect sense. Tomorrowland Music was launched in 2021, in collaboration with Universal Music Germany and Virgin Records Germany. Since then, tracks by the likes of Afrojack, Keanu Silva, Curbi, Chico Rose, and many more have been released. This past year has been quite the rollercoaster for Tomorrowland Music. Some of the highlights were Keanu Silva’s two singles, with ‘Hardcore Vibes’ receiving massive and long-lasting support on Spotify. Another milestone was the rebirth of the legendary Swedish dance producer Otto Knows, who has completely revamped his sound and style. Then there was the string of dancefloor weapons by the likes of Timmy Trumpet & Mariana Bo, Lucas & Steve, Goodboys and Curbi. And let’s not forget Afrojack’s new side project, called ‘Never Sleeps’. Not bad for a first year! To spice things up even more, Tomorrowland Music is now working on a ‘Reflection of Love’ collection of the best dance tracks of 2022 that will be released over the course of the summer. This soundtrack embraces the energy of the beautiful people that come together on the Holy Grounds to reflect their love onto the entire planet. By Afrojack’s & R3HAB’s own admission, ‘Worlds on Fire’ is a perfect match. So if you’re about to get the AUX cable on the camping grounds, make sure this amazing tune is next in queue… or just come to the Mainstage for Afrojack’s Set and experience it on full blast.
NEW RELEASES FOR TOMORROWLAND 2022

Daybreak session: Jamie Jones
Mc Chucky 12h00 - 14h30
FREEDOM
The idea behind the Daybreak Sessions is as follows: world class veteran DJs are invited to play an extended session with lower BPMs, packed with jams they usually don’t get to play out in clubs. It’s a concept so unique, One World Radio even named its breakfast show after it. Whilst the sessions are all about easing into the day, this first one of the weekend is far from casual. With a wide range of activities on his resume including heading the Hot Creations label, curating his own Paradise events series, and being a core member of the wildly eclectic group Hot Natured, playing a Daybreak Session will be right up Jamie Jones’s alley. A lot of the electronic music we listen and move to these days feels warm, positive and melodic and is miles away from the harsher, more minimal styles that people used to associate the genre with. One of the architects of that sound is – you’ve guessed it – Jamie Jones. His love for house, deep house and wide knowledge of the history of pop music is always noticeable while he plays his techno. This man clearly doesn’t think in terms of genres. Instead, he blends his favourite abstract club sounds with vocal cuts such as Darius Syrossian’s White Rabbit, a dance floor version of the classic track by legendary San Francisco band Jefferson Airplane. Expect a set where house and techno are the ‘teachers’, with lots of hints and snippets of interesting musical genres of the past. So make your way to the Mainstage early to step onto the dancefloor, have breakfast there and learn more about the history of music while you listen to the incredible Mr. Jamie Jones!

ARMIN VAN BUUREN 22H50 If the cliché ‘needs to introduction’ ever applied to anyone, it would surely be Armin van Buuren. Over the course of his long career, Armin has gone from trance favourite to mainstay of the largest EDM festivals, but he has never stopped supporting upcoming artists and growing the trance scene with his A State of Trance radio and event series. Always amicable and ready to offer an opinion, Armin spilled some (but not all) of his secrets on the eve before his return to Tomorrowland’s Mainstage today. Armin, welcome back to Tomorrowland! It’s been quite a while – what did coming back to Tomorrowland last weekend feel like? “Fantastic! I knew I missed being out there on stage performing in front of such a massive crowd, but it only dawned on me just how much when I finally stepped onto the stage. It was such a great feeling.”
Imagine you could disguise yourself so that no one could possibly recognize you. How would you spend your day at Tomorrowland then? “Honestly, I’d just spend the entire day in the crowd, supporting the artists and colleagues I admire. There are so many artists playing and I rarely get the time to really enjoy a full set, so that’s what I’d be doing.”
What part of Tomorrowland were you looking forward to the most? “Basically just being able to hit the stage and play for so many fans again. The stage designs are phenomenal, of course, and I always love playing at Tomorrowland. But the thing I looked forward to the most was connecting with my fans again.”
This year’s theme is ‘The Reflection of Love’. What does this mantra mean to you? “To me, ‘The Reflection of Love’ is twofold. On the one hand, I feel it’s about reciprocated love, which is one of the most beautiful things there is. And on the other hand, it means – to me – that the love we have for other people or things we do isn’t always expressed through words. More often, the things we do without saying it or expecting something in return are a true reflection of the love we feel.”
Reflecting on your memories of previous editions, what’s your favourite one and can it ever be topped? “Definitely 2013, when I got to announce the birth of my son live on stage. I think that memory will forever remain the one to beat.” Many fans who are here now will probably have seen the livestream of your Mainstage set last weekend already. How are you going to surprise them? “If I were to tell you, that would no longer be a surprise, now would it? Haha!”
THE REFLECTION OF LOVE
You’ve just recently released your highly anticipated album ‘Feel Again, Pt. 1’. Which of those tracks do you think encapsulates the energy of the People of Tomorrow most? How would you describe this energy? “I’d probably pick ‘Oumuamua’. Tomorrowland has always been this immense, grand festival in everything it is, from the stage design to the massive festival grounds and even the line-ups. There’s so much energy wherever you are or look, and I think that track is as boisterous as the festival.”

You regularly share pictures of yourself going surfing, waterskiing and swimming on your Instagram page. Can you describe your special connection to the ocean? “I became a global ambassador for WWF when I visited Bali and witnessed the effects of plastic pollution on ocean life. Since then, I’ve been doing everything in my power to rally people and, hopefully, put an end to the plastic madness. Apart from that, I just love the feeling of being in the water. It’s a great way of staying active and making sure I remain physically fit.” Your hands-up poses are absolutely iconic, even to the point where people can recognize you just by your silhouette. Do you ever practice them in front of a mirror? “Haha, that’s a fun question. No, I don’t practice my special moves. From my perspective, these poses aren’t even that special, but I’m glad everyone finds them so memorable!” The jury is still out on the theme for next year’s Tomorrowland! Any recommendations? “It’s probably best if I leave that up to Tomorrowland’s cool kids to decide, haha!” One day your own kids will probably come to Tomorrowland as well. What advice would you give them? “Stay safe, stay hydrated and have fun!”

FRIDAY
AMELIE LENS ATMOSPHERE | 23H00
HELENA HAUFF ATMOSPHERE | 17H00
One of the most raw and underground-sounding artists to perform this year is 32-year-old producer Amelie Lens from Brussels. Since her last Tomorrowland performance in 2019, her profile has become even stronger than it was back then. It’s hard not to instantaneously start bouncing to her bass-heavy, pounding techno sets. With releases on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode, Pan-Pot’s Second State, Soma from Glasgow and of course her own Lenske Records, her sound represents the banging four-to-the-floor nature of these record labels, but don’t be surprised to hear some dark underground electro in her mixes too. Amelie is one of the biggest sensations in the current techno scene - today you’ll have the chance to find out why!
Helena Hauff debuted at Tomorrowland back in 2019, as part of the cutting-edge program on a stage curated by Nina Kraviz. Since then, Helena has continued to fire her raw and uncompromising techno, electro, acid house, EBM and even new wave at anyone with a keen ear for it, playing everything on vinyl only. She earned her stripes at Hamburg’s Golden Pudel club, going into a residency just months after buying her first set of turntables, and hasn’t looked back since, becoming a mainstay at forward-thinking events and clubs like Dekmantel and De School. The cornerstone of her sound as a DJ is the raw, in-your-face ‘Dutch West Coast’ school, centred around the output of Bunker Records, a DIY label located in The Hague. As a DJ and selector, Helena Hauff is admired by colleagues old and new for her passion, creativity, and her uncompromising playing style, always finding a way to grasp the audience from the get-go, taking them on a wild, usually high-tempo ride. She’ll use an ominous, atmospheric electro track to draw you in, kick it into next gear with uncompromising techno, then challenge you to dance to a buffet of underground sounds you never realised you loved. And it’s all for a reason: she likes to challenge conventions, even having said once that she wants to ‘destroy society’ as a DJ, and is all for pushing independent, creative producers that expand musical horizons. Helena has released her own music, always recorded with analogue gear and usually in a single take, on a wide range of labels including Ninja Tune, Werkdiscs, Hypnobeat, Dark Entries, Panzerkreuz, and of course her very own Return to Disorder. Helena’s set at Atmosphere is a big recommendation for anyone looking for some adventure today.

KÖLSCH
BISCITS

LEAF BY JBL | 19H00
The name Rune Reille Kölsch may sound like he’s from the German city of Cologne (Köln), but this DJ – one of the most admired artists in the world of soulful techno – is definitely Danish. He is literally able to bring audiences to tears of joy with his deep melodies, both in his sets and with his productions on the legendary Kompakt label (which is based in – surprise, surprise – Cologne!). Soundwise, Kölsch can go many directions, whether it’s house or techno, underground or more mainstream. The always recognisable man with the hat has played Tomorrowland’s Mainstage before, and now that he’s playing the smaller Freedom Stage, we’re guessing he’ll verge a little more to the underground side of things. A set to look forward to!
Southampton-based producer Biscits travelled the world extensively in 2019 to give the global club and festival scene a little taste of his infectious and hyperenergetic house sound. The following years were obviously dedicated to the studio rather than the floor, and Biscits made the most of it with key releases on Toolroom Records, Solotoko, Black Book and Diplo’s Higher Ground. No wonder all of these labels were after Biscits, as his music really is something else; while his beats and basslines lock you into a groove, there’s always a twisted melody line just around the corner. His fast and exciting development led Tomorrowland to select Biscits for their Future 4 program in 2021, and how good is it to now have him finally play the festival? THE REFLECTION OF LOVE

REFLECT THE MUSIC TECHNO The Reflection of Love is all about unity – a unity of loving souls, but also a gathering of widely disparate music styles. For those that like to brush up on their musical knowledge, or explore a set of sounds they’ve not danced to before, we take a deep dive into the history of one genre found at Tomorrowland. Taking it back to the bare essence, we zoom in on dance music’s most minimalist of styles – techno.

KARA SAVI | 18H15
THE LIBRARY | 22H00
Coming from psytrance epicentre Israel, Matan Kadosh and Aviram Saharai have introduced many ravers to their mind-elevating genre. With psytrance reaching wider and wider audiences of late, none other than Armin van Buuren started noticing the duo a few years back, which resulted in an incredible collaborative track: ‘Great Spirit’. Matan and Aviram, who started making music together as Sesto Sento over twenty years ago, have since released tracks with some of the biggest names in the industry including Timmy Trumpet and Steve Aoki. If you think you can’t do without a taste of psytrance this weekend, make sure to head to Kara Savi, where Vini Vici will play alongside other heroes of the genre, including Infected Mushroom and Liquid Soul.
Timmy Trumpet, born and raised in Sydney, is one of the few conventional musicians to have ever entered the EDM scene. After a formal education at the Conservatory of Music, Timmy managed to become the leading solo trumpeter in what was called the Australian All-Star Stage Band. Playing alongside DJ duo The Stafford Brothers turned out to be a turning point in Timmy’s career, as that’s where he realised the power of combining the conventional with the unconventional. Unlike many of his DJ colleagues, Timmy Trumpet is a natural-born performer who knows how to hype up his crowds like hardly anyone can. And that’s exactly why we think that anyone who loves a bit of showmanship should try to catch a glimpse of this unusual artist, today at the Library stage.
LISTEN TO T H E LOV E LY S OU N D S In the mid-‘80s, Detroit was at its most impoverished. The car industry had collapsed and turned the city into a dystopian wasteland of abandoned factories and little job opportunities. It was this grim environment that would birth house music’s angry sibling. Pioneered by the Bellville Three – Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson (who played a mesmerizing TML set during Weekend 1) – techno was heavily inspired by German electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk, American funk music and sci-fi imagery. It was in Black American culture, however, that it turned into the sound we know today. During the ‘90s, techno spread across the globe, creating new techno hubs in European cities like Berlin, Amsterdam, Ghent and Stockholm. The original Detroit sound was embraced by many during the ‘00s, with big events like I Love Techno, Awakenings and Timewarp adding to a more widespread appeal. In 2022, this captivating genre has become a worldwide phenomenon. From the Swedish stamina of Adam Beyer and the Dutch debauchery of Reinier Zonneveld to the German grit of Ben Klock – techno is here to stay. This weekend, the Atmosphere stage is techno central at Tomorrowland. This Friday, Amelie Lens’ EXHALE is featuring a number of no-holds-barred DJs including Kobosil, Ben Kock and Pan-Pot. On Saturday, they give the floor to Charlotte de Witte’s KNTXT, while on Sunday, it’s all about techno titans Drumcode. Time to get dancing!

LOST FREQUENCIES LIVE
COONE
MAINSTAGE | 20H40
YOUPHORIA | 18H00
Felix de Laet aka Lost Frequencies has slowly but surely become one of the world’s key producers at the crossroads of dance music and pop music. A master of all sorts of instruments, he provided the perfect musical backbone for Calum Scott to sing his heartfelt ‘Where Are You Now’, which became one of 2021’s big hits for everyone to sing along to. De Laet’s status as a mature musician now means that he’s got more control over the process of working with others. He gets to record directly with artists in the studio, whereas in the past he’d only get stems sent over to play around with. That’s great news for all of the Lost Frequencies fans, who will see their hero perform live on stage today.
This DJ wrote history back in 2018 as the very first hardstyle DJ to ever play the big and glorious Mainstage of Tomorrowland Belgium. It was obviously a huge milestone for Coone, who had been one of the leading acts in the hardstyle scene for years by then; the first time he appeared in the DJ Mag top 100 was already back in 2011. Besides being a producer, Coone is also head honcho at his very own Dirty Workz label, which is where he released his 5th studio album ‘Loyalty is Everything’ in 2020. Get ready for some hardstyle action and join Coone at the Da Tweekaz hosted Youphoria stage, where he’ll play among many other artists specialised in jackhammer-tempo beats.
