Not just any kind of love, mind you, but a particular, thrilling, all-encompassing feeling; a connection not just between you and those around you, but between you and all of the tens of thousands of souls come together to celebrate Tomorrow once again. It is up to you, now, to reflect

all that – the magic felt at the Gathering, the presence of all of those like-minded humans, your deep affection for your friends – into a first day of Tomorrowland never to forget. Where will it take you, beyond the eternal spectacle of the Mainstage? Will you reunite with the watchful dragon of the Rose Garden? Go down the rabbit hole in the forests of CORE? Enjoy a well-deserved rest at the Freedom waterfalls, maybe? In the end, perhaps it doesn’t even matter so much, friends. What matters is you’re here, and today we finally begin. Welcome home.

Welcome to your first proper day at Tomorrowland 2022. The Holy Grounds have awaited your arrival, and its soil will quickly warm up to your dancing feet during what is set to be another sunny weekend.

Start with stage-hoping for an hour or three, to get a general feel of the vastness of it all and to get in tune with your own musical instinct. Report back at the Mainstage for the Opening Ceremony at 17h30 sharp.

Don’t forget to check out the Library stage for a day-long showcase by Martin Garrix’ STMPD RCRDS. Looking for a somewhat rougher sound? Squeeze in a bit of Boris Brejcha, who plays some of the most driving beats right now, or go see house legend Gerd Janson at CORE before moving onto something more hammering: the illustrious Rødhåd. Last but not least, the legendary rebel Hardwell’s return is not to be missed.

OPENING HOURS The gates of Tomorrowland open at 12 p.m. midday, and from then on it’s non-stop dancing and fun until the gates shut at 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 12 a.m. on Sunday. Check-in is possible every day until 10 p.m. (Friday and Saturday) and 9 p.m. (Sunday). Entering the festival grounds more than once is not allowed. DreamVille re-entries are allowed, but only after 5 p.m.

Medical emergency? Look for the yellow flag with the black cross to find First Aid points. There is always a doctor with every team. To bring medication onto the grounds you will need a doctor’s certificate.

FLY LIKE AN EAGLE TAKE-OFF TO DESTINATION: TOMORROWLAND Your Tomorrowland experience starts as soon as you leave home and the journey, alone or with friends, is always fun and exciting. But there is one particular way to make your trip to Tomorrowland truly unforgettable, and that’s by taking an official Partyflight, all geared up with DJs, glowsticks and extraordinarily festive vibes for party peeps just like yourself. This year, for the first time in three years, Brussels Airlines transformed flights from all over Europe into official, exclusive Tomorrowland Partyflights. Some of these are carried out by the amazing Amare, an airplane unlike any other: it resembles a mythical bird and symbolises some of Tomorrowland’s most important values, such as love, friendship, and unity. Last weekend, Amare arrived in Brussels from Oslo, with an incredible pre-party on board. Want to know more? Keep reading!

Raving in a departure lounge? Sounds mad, but it’s exactly the way a Partyflight to the Holy Grounds starts when Amare is your preferred choice of travel. Picture ultra-energetic vibes with dancers who haven’t slept much due to their excitement for what’s awaiting them. They move to a selection of house and tech house, played by a DJ looking somewhat bewildered at what on Earth is happening around him.

Drinks are served, and so is food, for anyone who can find the time to eat in between moving their dancing feet. Then, slowly, the partyhopping experience enters a new phase as everyone moves toward Brussels Airlines’ most extravagantly decorated Airbus A320.

Once inside, the mostly Norwegian music heads start singing their favourite songs as they receive their exclusive and limited Tomorrowland Partyflight glowsticks, while they wait for some 4

official magical announcements to be made. They don’t have to wait long, as the fancy-looking cabin crew enters the stage with some choreographed ‘safety instructions’ which officially set off the Partyflight. Will the official Tomorrowland dance, as shown by the cabin crew, end up going viral? If you come across groups of people putting their fists forward and upward before they make heart figures with both hands, then you’ll know the answer…

Amare’s out-of-the-ordinary soundtrack, meanwhile, is provided

by British production duo The Goodboys, the people behind last week’s Track of the Day: a banging track called ‘Jack Flip’. The two are the perfect fit for this flight, as a big part of the reason they started collaborating is them watching Tomorrowland aftermovies together in their younger years. Their set is a combination of their own

productions with some true Tomorrowland classics everyone on the plane can relate to.

Tomorrowland takes pride in uniting people for life, and that’s exactly what’s already happening on board Amare. Some people on the flight have never met before, but they’ve already decided to camp together at DreamVille, or to meet up again during the festival at the very least.

by Netsky, and the never-seen-before Reflection of Love Mainstage.

Clearly, the Partyflight reflects the love that the People of Tomorrow instinctively share!

GLOBAL JOURNEY PACKAGES Global Journey offers a lot of different options to choose from, with a way of travelling suited to everyone’s taste. Here are some of the packages available. Which will you choose next year?

Torkel & Eddie Torkel from Trondheim and Eddie from Oslo feel like Hobbits going on one big adventure. Funny thing is, 2022’s theme, The Reflection of Love, seems to be right up their alley, as the two used to be a married couple until just a few years ago. “We called each other when we heard about the theme,” says Eddie. “We haven’t seen each other for one and a half years, but Torkel has been stalking me a little online.

It’s OK, our take on love is going to be friendship, starting from today!’’

Daniel, Kristoffer, Ola and Ludwig This group first travelled to Oslo from their village in the frosty far north of Norway. Daniel and Ludwig have known each other forever – they’re brothers, after all – and they met the others about ten years back through their shared passion for electronic music. The four have dreamt about going to Tomorrowlad since middle school and always knew they’d travel there with the incredible bird-plane Amare. They’re most excited to check out every single stage and to see Alesso, Martin Garrix and Paul Kalkbrenner this weekend. “Everyone else should see them too,” says Ludwig.

WHERE LONG-AWAITED DREAMS COME TRUE For the intrepid campers among us, the Tomorrowland experience starts on DreamVille.

Packed with heavy bags, surrounded by old and new friends alike, and with their hearts filled with excitement, they enter the campgrounds. For some, the journey to get here has been long and arduous, others had a short and sweet trip; they’ve taken trains, busses, cars and airplanes to finally reunite here and share love, energy, and memories. For all of them, arrival at DreamVille means the next chapter of their experience finally begins. While looking for the perfect spot to set up their temporary homes, they meet their new neighbours - each with their own story and background, but all coming together on the rolling hills of DreamVille.

Dimitri from South Africa Even though he arrived with lots of luggage from South Africa, this friendly face still forgot to bring a lot of things. “I forgot my sleeping bag and I had to steal a pillow from the plane. Maybe I have to be a bit more flirty to find a comfy place to sleep tonight.” He might still need a wingman, though!

Almar and Siggi from Iceland “Together, we’ve been here more than 10 times – so we’re kind of like Tomorrowland-veterans. We know all the tricks,” the two shamelessly brag. “This year, we came very well-prepared. We decided we’re gonna come up with the follow-up to the Icelandic Viking Clap.” These friends are ready to go viral.

Shauny and Tanner and their self-proclaimed clique (USA and Canada) This high-energy group of friends met at Tomorrowland 2019, as a result of Shauny and Tanner’s unlikely friendship. The two met when Shauny was about to buy tickets to Tomorrowland at an online marketplace. “Tanner send me a message saying that he thought the tickets were fake.

Obviously, we became friends right away and we’ve been going to Tomorrowland together ever since.”

Gio and Mavi from Paraguay “Our flight here was super long, over 16 hours, but now we feel so free! It’s just liberating to be here; we can’t stop smiling and jumping around.” Gio shares that a friend of theirs gave them the flags, and already wore them during the first weekend. Paraguay knows where it’s at!

Fabian from France “I’ll be sleeping in my brother’s tent, and somehow, there are a lot of signatures on it. I have no idea where they’re from.” Fabian tips his hat to a lady walking past. “But he goes to a lot of festivals, so maybe someone walking by will recognise their signature and tell me more about it.”

Shawn from Jordan Shawn is lazing around his tent, making the most of his stay at DreamVille. “This is the last stop of my trip through Europe, where I visited a lot of festivals. I slept in hotels for all of them, but I just had to experience DreamVille for myself.” Happy to see he’s doing it in style!

Lucas and Yasmin from Brasil “We didn’t bring a lot of stuff, but you don’t need much here anyway” says Lucas. Yasmin adds: “Our advice to everybody would be to pack light and rather stock up on memories with all the people around you. Like those two over there!”

Marin and Agatha from Germany “I’ve been here many times, so I am her Tomorrowland-guide” Marin giggles. Agatha shares that her friend had just told her they mustn’t miss the Lotus stage and the Rave Cave. “But her best advice so far was to drink something healthy first, and then maybe a few beers too many after.”

Morgane and João from Brazil “We bought our tickets in 2020, so it’s been a long time coming. But actually, I’ve dreamed of coming here for 11 years already!” João smiles from ear to ear. Morgane chimes in and describes how she always wanted to go, but never found someone to join her – until she met João. Now if that isn’t true love, what is?

Sarah and Sebastian from Germany SPLASH! A small stream of water shoots through a seemingly endless rows of tents. These two certainly know how to aim, because people left and right are getting hit with a refreshing but very local shower.

“So far, nobody has been angry with us – so we’ll just keep on splashing people.” Sarah claims. “Actually, most people thank us for the refreshment.”

Something for your mind, your body and your soul Younghoon and Moeuv from South Korea “Finally! This is basically our breakfast.” Indeed, the two seem to really enjoy their bag of cherries. “We’re just really jet-lagged and were in a hurry, so we didn’t have time to eat yet,” says Younghoon. Then his girlfriend stops him with a request: “When we’re back in Korea, please don’t stop feeding me cherries.

We dove in deeper and asked him to tell his story.

“The Solo Vida vineyards are a sacred place an hour from Barcelona, far away from people’s daily lives. Nature has embraced these beautiful vineyards in the mountains for centuries, and a mysterious tenth-century castle full of old stories oversees the growth of the grapes year after year. A NEW TRACK TO SAVE YOU Croatian-German DJ & producer Topic just revealed his brandnew dance weapon ‘Saving Me’, exclusively released through Amazon Music. Known for his emotional yet exhilarating dance sound, the internationally renowned and hotly in-demand artist has now created an uplifting rework of his global smash hit ‘Breaking Me’, specially made for his performances at Tomorrowland this summer.

‘Saving Me’ is an entirely new song with a new message and lyrics, fusing Topic’s unique trademark sound with vocals by American singer-songwriter Sasha Alex Sloan.

There’s always a way to hear, see and feel what’s going on at the Holy Grounds, even when for some reason you can’t move yourself and your tired dancing feet from DreamVille to Tomorrowland. If you ever find yourself in this situation, simply flick on the livestream. You can also tune in to it between the three Tomorrowland weekends, when it is the go-to place to review the performances of the previous weekend, and to preview those scheduled for the upcoming four days of magical madness. Tomorrowland is known for a diverse selection of music, but its culinary offerings range at least as wide. Food from cuisines all around the world are represented in settings from simple stands to top-class restaurants with an appetising view. To help you along with your choice, here are some of the offerings – but beware, the map below is by no means exhaustive, as the selection would be big enough to fill an entire newspaper with.

3 TOMORROWLAND KITCHEN In the Tomorrowland Kitchen you can enjoy and savour delicious street food with typical flavors from all corners of the world. Chef Xavier Van Hecke serves crushi: your favorite sushi rolls, but deep-fried. Of course, you can order a classic California roll with surimi crab. Or try the crushi salmon supreme!

1 LOBSTERS At Lobsters you can watch your meal being prepared for you. The shellfish are freshly grilled in Big Green Eggs on wooden skewers. It may be hard to choose from the available options, though, which include Asian lobster with noodles and lobster à l’armoricaine with butter. You can definitely taste that lobsters and champagne are part of Chef Glen’s DNA.

2 MESA BITES Next to the infamous MESA restaurant, you’ll find the perfect spot for a quick bite – which is not to say fast food, because the quality of the food here is on par with the plates served next door. Chef Thomas Van der Flaas could not choose which finger food for the People of Tomorrow, so he went with glazed pork cheek, slow-cooked for 10 hours, and baked langoustine in one dish. Judging from the clean plates, it seems to be a winner!

4 SOLO VIDA At Tomorrowland, everything is simply better, including the wine. At the MESA Garden, you can enjoy the fresh and fruity taste of Solo Vida Reserva at the Fountainbar. You can tell this wine is extraordinary just by looking at the detailed design on the bottle. Need one more reason to go? The sparkling wine is poured in proper wine glasses!

Want to immerse yourself in fine magical flavours during a top-class meal with a magnificent view of the Mainstage? Look no further, then, as you can find all of this at the Tomorrowland Restaurant!

The chef ’s table consists of a selection of different appetizers, followed by a main course (meat/fish/ veggie) and a top-notch dessert.

6 WILDN & PLANTN Tel Aviv’s Roasted Cauliflower is helping to catapult Israeli cuisine from small street food stands in Tel Aviv to international fame. You can find the popular vegetable in many shapes and forms at Wildn & Plantn; for example, as a whole to share and in a pita. A must-try, especially if you’ve always thought this versatile vegetable to be boring!

7 BRASA Massive flames and a mouth-watering scent attract visitors and passersby to the restaurant at Brasa, a large, spacious and bohemian affair where the setting is as attractive as the food itself.

Chef Frank keeps the flames under control while serving 150 people every hour. Try the juicy Tomahawk steak, grilled eggplant, the perfectly baked salmon or the VIP menu.

8 TOMORROWLAND BURGER This burger was a big hit at Tomorrowland Winter, and it just had to make its reappearance here in Boom. Chef Wim has worked for Tomorrowland for 8 years now, and is proud that he has turned his burger 100% vegan! It’s a surprise for many, as you can hardly tell the difference from meat. It’s served on a bun with lettuce, roasted bell pepper, red onion and truffle mayonnaise.

9 FROZEN YOGHURT At different locations throughout the Holy Grounds, you will find booths serving fabulous frozen yoghurt. You can choose between various refreshing options, such as ‘Summer Sense’ (with strawberries, watermelon & grapes), ‘Exotique’ (pineapple, kiwi, banana & cereals), ‘Go Nuts’ (nuts, raisins, banana & chocolate) – or remix your yoghurt like your favourite DJ with the various pick & mix options.

HYDRATION RULES THE NATION Going mental to a sick beat… That’s what dance music is all about, right? But what if you or your friend actually goes ‘mental’ or become seriously ill? No worries, there’s a team of doctors on the festival grounds and in surrounding hospitals to ensure your safety. We spoke to Chanelle De Winter, emergency doctor at AZ Rivierenland. She gave us her 4 golden survival tips for a healthy Tomorrowland:

1. HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE Chanelle: “Tomorrowland is huge, and the weather forecast for this weekend is warm. Even if you try to stay in the shade all day, you’ll never succeed. With these high temperatures, you’re at risk of a heatstroke or heat exhaustion. So in between all the pints, don’t forget to drink enough water.”

2. DON’T DO DRUGS “I know it’s an illusion to think no one will do any drugs at Tomorrowland. But as a doctor, I must advise everyone not to. Most drugs increase the chances of things like heatstroke exponentionally, because they increase the core temperature of your body as well.”

3. IF YOU DO: HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE! “But if you do take drugs, you should be even more careful about your hydration levels and your body temperature. Besides drinking, you could also sprinkle yourself with water to cool down. The duration of an increased risk depends on the type of drug. Cocaine has a relatively short effect, but the effects of ketamine can last up to 12 hours.”

4. IN CASE OF DOUBT, VISIT FIRST AID “One of the symptoms of heatstroke is a state of confusion. This can obviously be enhanced by certain substances. If you’re feeling confused or you have a friend who is acting confused, don’t hesitate to bring them to First Aid. They can take their temperature and put your mind at ease. Never just put them in the shade somewhere to sleep it off, it’s too dangerous. Be smart, be safe, and don’t forget to have fun!”

Upon arrival at the Moose Bar, you won’t need to get rid of your skis and snowboard due to the typical seasonal conditions of the Belgian summer. Instead, you just enter the wooden ski lodge in your shiny festive wear. If you were to zoom out, things might look out of place. Luckily, the Moose never judges and welcomes all. WHEN TWO OF THE WORLD’S GREATEST LABELS BECOME ONE BIG FAMILY

Tomorrowland is where music fans from all over the world become friends for life. Not only that, it is the a place where artists love to play more than anywhere else. The Holy Grounds are a place of soaring creativity, where collaborations come about, styles are blended and long lasting joint projects find their early beginnings. Martin Garrix’ STMPD RCRDS

Uniting people through music has always been at the forefront of everything Tomorrowland does and it is this very approach that Tomorrowland Music and STMPD have in common. Any STMPD artist will happily confirm that the record label functions as one big family, where diversity and deviating from the norm is highly appreciated. “What makes STMPD so unique and much-loved among artists is the freedom they give you to create exactly the kind of music you envision,” says Khazar aka Loopers, who made the track Rave Alert for the EP, together with fellow producer NUZB. “On top of that, they also give you carte blanche in creating your own individual identity. It is honestly one of the nicest labels around.”

- founded in 2016 - has proven to be a mainstay here in Boom, always pushing the boundaries of music into unknown directions with exclusive never-seen-before B2B sets. It may have been these duo sets that got Tomorrowland thinking: why not release a hot new EP through STPMD and the newly founded Tomorrowland Music imprint at once. It is at Tomorrowland 2022 that everything comes full circle: many of the DJs playing the STMPD stage not only play cutting edge B2B sets with each other, they also collaboratively release tracks on the brand new STMPD x Tomorrowland Music EP.

WORKING TOGETHER It is that feeling of love and respect that is central to what Tomorrowland Music does, too. No wonder then, that the STMPD x Tomorrowland Music EP is part of a series of exclusive festival releases by Tomorrowland Music under this year’s festival theme ‘The Reflection of Love’. For most of the artists on the EP, releasing on both labels at the same is like a dream come true. “For me personally, to play Tomorrowland and to release on the label is just insane,” says Vluarr. “It’s the one festival everyone has always looked up to.”

Whilst the B2B sets form the backbone of the EP, the way the artists were asked to be part of the stage hosting varies. NUZB was first approached to make a track with Loopers and then got asked to come over to play a set with him, “a first-ever overseas DJ’ing opportunity for me.” For some other musical projects, it worked the other way around. Vluarr and Seth Hills were already booked to play the STMPD stage when they were approached to release a collaborative track to boot. “We’d already done a track together called Call Out back in 2020, which led us to become good friends during the following year, spending ample time in the studio. As this was going to be the follow-up to a tune we’re really proud of, we wanted to make sure to get it right with this one. And we’re super happy with it, it’s melodic and mysterious, with a dark and energetic vibe to it. We also wrote the lyrics ourselves.”

BORDERLESS MUSIC

“Even though we’ve made a banger of a track together, we’d never even seen each other. It is things like this that make being an electronic music artist so incredibly special.”

When it comes to collaborations, the way Netherlands-based producer Loopers and NUZB from the remote city of Belo Horizonte in Brazil produced their track Rave Alert is a great example of how electronic music and ibidem communications can make magic happen in today’s day and age. “I started with a tech house feel and then it went back and forth to Loopers a few times,” says NUZB about the track created on two different sides of the Atlantic. In the end, the breaks are mostly the result of what I did, while Loopers took care of the insane drops.”

Most collaborating artists on the compilations know each other through and through, though. Take DubVison, the duo behind 2022’s Tomorrowland Winter anthem, for whom playing together is common affair. “We created a very emotional, uplifting and energetic anthem that we’ll definitely play towards the end of our set today.” The preparation for one of the other anticipated sets, the one with Loopers and NUZB, couldn’t be more different: “We’re preparing it as we speak,” says NUZB. “Even though we made a banger of a track together, we’d never actually met face to face until today. It is things like this that make being an electronic music artist so incredibly special.”

STMPD RCRDS STAGE It is hard to imagine that it was only in 2016 that Martin Garrix started his very STMPD RCRDS. Six years into its existence, it has become a hotbed of musical innovations, focusing on quality over quantity with productions full of new sonic ideas that always sound fresh, funky and crisp. Welcome to the first Daybreak Session of the weekend. Anyone who’s been to Tomorrowland before knows the purpose of the concept; it’s a rave warm-up, where gentle beats and melodies find a way to wake up your dancing feet, as it were. Every Daybreak is different though, and today’s edition will definitely set itself apart from any other one you’ve witnessed before. On this Friday morning, the golden-faced German boy that goes by the name of Claptone will serve as your alarm clock.

One of the most gifted deep house DJs on the planet, there’s a lot of mystery surrounding this wunderkind, who once had his own productions wonderfully described by Mixmag as “crisply produced and effortlessly infectious.” One of the biggest questions around the artist is, well… whether we’re talking about one or two people.

The confusion arose a few years back when Claptone performed at two different locations at exactly the same time. Say what? Yes, you’ve heard it right. The man (or men) hides behind a fully face-covering golden-beaked mask, so will we ever know the answer? Is his identity all that important, though, when the music he plays is among some of the best danceable house music to be heard on global dance floors right now?

SUB ZERO PROJECT 17H30 Meet Thomas Velderman and Nigel Coppen, collectively known as Sub Zero Project, who seemingly came out of nowhere in 2017 when they first destroyed the hardstyle charts with their smash hit ‘The Project’. Five years down the line, they’ve reinvented themselves with their new album The Renaissance of Rave, an incredible record their most faithful fans know by heart already. Let’s find out more.

It’s 2022 and Tomorrowland is finally happening again. How does it feel to be back?

Finally indeed! It feels great. Tomorrowland is always a very special festival to play at, and the last two weekends were so much fun. The vibe was insane and you can really see people are so happy to be back.

Luckily we have one more weekend to go!

You guys both went to the Herman Brood Academy, a music school in the Netherlands. Can you explain a little about the school?

We started at the Herman Brood Academy as teenagers because we knew we wanted to become professional musicians. We attended courses about sound design and music production, but also classes about marketing and things like that. Here, you don’t just learn by following the curriculum, but also from your classmates and just being surrounded by people with a similar mission. We can definitely recommend it to young people who aspire to be a DJ/producer one day.

Do you have any other tips for young artists who want to break into the scene?

It is important to create your own style, because it’s what will make you stand out from other artists. Besides that, it is important to have fun doing what you’re doing and to continue to learn new things.

We’ve always had so much fun making music, which to a large extent must explain where we stand today.

You were one of the first to incorporate psytrance beats in hardstyle tracks back in 2017. How do you look back at those experiments?

THE REFLECTION OF LOVE

We never thought incorporating psytrance influences into our track ‘The Project’ would ultimately lead to our careers kicking off the way they did. We think every music genre has something unique and something that you can combine with hardstyle, or any other genre.

Being creative and creating new and refreshing musical formulas is what we enjoy the most about making music.

How do you guys approach the production process from start to finish? Is there a system to it?

It’s different with every track. Sometimes we already have a vocal and we start from there, but sometimes we start with a melody and then we create the track around that. Most of the time, we develop a theme that serves as a starting point. We love to work with thematic tracks, because it gives us a lot of inspiration as well as a direction in the production process.

Can you explain a little about your album The Renaissance of Rave? How is it different from what you’ve done before?

The Renaissance of Rave is all about passion for the art of music. We had two awful years, but right now, we can finally enjoy the rebirth of our lifestyle again. We created the album and a new live show around this concept, for which we’re using insane visuals in full-on renaissance style

You’ll be playing two sets today, one just the two of you and a B2B with Rebelion. What can the People of Tomorrow expect from you during both sets?

Our solo set will contain all the tracks from our brand new album Renaissance of Rave, so make sure to be there to experience the madness in real life! We’ll also play our collab with Hardwell called ‘Judgement Day’. The B2B with Rebelion is also going to be insane.

We have such good chemistry with these guys and the crowd goes wild every time we play our new collab ‘Live Fast Die Young’. We’re definitely looking forward to both sets today.

What’s the sickest hardstyle track (not your own) that you always play in a set?

Haha, that question is just too hard to answer. There are so many great hardstyle productions, even tracks that we never play in our sets. Our scene has so many great producers!

How do you get a hardstyle crowd going?

Energy is everything. Hardstyle music represents energy, so you have to transmit this to the crowd during a set. Obviously, this goes handin-hand with just having fun. If you’re enjoying yourself on stage, the crowd will see this and they will party even harder!

One of the most raw and underground artists to perform on the Holy Grounds this year is 32-year-old producer Amelie Lens from Brussels.

Since her last Tomorrowland performance in 2019, her profile has grown even more solid than it was back then. With releases on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode, Pan-Pot’s Second State, Soma from Glasgow and of course her own label Lenske Records, Lens’ sound represents the banging fourto-the-floor nature of these record labels, although, do not be surprised to hear some dark, underground electro in her mixes as well. It’s hard not to instantaneously start bouncing to her bass-heavy, pounding techno sets. Amelie is one of the biggest sensations in the current techno scene - today you’ll have the chance to find out why!

Hello Carola! What was it like to find out you’d be playing at Tomorrowland?

It has always been a goal of mine. When I saw the aftermovie in 2012, I even posted on Facebook that I just had to find a way to play here – and today this dream will come true. How crazy is that?

I am enjoying the moment: I want to fully embrace every sensation this amazing opportunity gives me.

You’re from Brazil, a country with a lot of rising talents. How would you describe the Brazilian Dance Music scene and which elements will you bring to Tomorrowland?

Oh man, the Brazilian scene is wild! Everybody has such a great sense of rhythm, I guess it’s in our blood. This rhythm, the deep understanding of what a drum line does to your body, mind and soul. That’s what I’ll bring to my set today.

You’ve just released a track on the STMPD RCRDS x Tomorrowland Music EP – tell us a bit about that!

It was super exciting! Me and KVSH got together on Discord after I had the idea for the track and we finished it in less than a week.

I am so happy to see that it’s out now and already getting a lot of support, even here at Tomorrowland!

The name of the song is “Welcome to the Future”. Do you have an important message regarding the future?

Ha, 100%! As I am from Brazil, the amazon rainforest is obviously very important to me, —but it should be important to everyone.

It serves as the lung of our planet, so we need to direct our energy towards protecting it.

One of the DJs taking centre stage at the Rampage-curated Rose Garden is British producer Fox Stevenson, who has been prolific for over a decade now. Having released his music on a wide range of labels including Liquicity, Disciple and Spinnin’, Fox keeps on bending and blending genres like house, liquid drum and bass, glitch hop, dubstep and whatnot. Stevenson does not accept musical borders, which is evidently one of his big strengths. He has even produced sing-along dance tunes, including 2020’s Like That. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Fox himself often sings along to whatever he’s playing on stage. The incredibly engaged entertainer knows how to hype up his audience, getting everyone ready for one of his many drops.

Hailing from the southwestern corner of Germany, Gerd Janson is one of those DJs who other DJs keep a close eye on. Reason is, Gerd is known to dig deeper than many, resulting in many pleasant surprises when you listen closely to his deep and stomping sets. Janson loves playing the best of not-so-well-known US house, but also less obvious genres such as disco and Italo disco. As one of the few selectors on the scene, he is capable of turning long-forgotten jams, such as I Don’t Wanna Lose You by obscure Canadian disco duo Lime, into newfound classics. Core is where you head today to discover gems from dance music’s hidden past, but be warned: Shazzam might not always work!

Versatility is the key to this Swedish techno producer’s resumé. While the futuristic robotic sound of Detroit is at the foundations of most of her work, Ida Engberg also ventured into projects with vocalists such as Icelandic icon Björk with whom she released her debut single Disco Volante back in 2007. Ida began her career when she was 18, and more recently, collaborated with house producers such as Roger Sanchez, Sebastian Ingrosso, and fellow Swedes Eric Prydz and John Dahlbäck. Naturally, you’ll hear a wide variety of sounds in her sets: expect anything from minimal to electro and from funky techno to tech house.

LISTEN TO T H E LOV E LY S OU N D S In the mid-‘80s, Detroit was at its most impoverished.

The car industry had collapsed and turned the city into a dystopian wasteland of abandoned factories and little job opportunities. It was this grim environment that would birth house music’s angry sibling. Pioneered by the Bellville Three – Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson (who played a mesmerising set during Tomorrowland Weekend 1) – techno was heavily inspired by German electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk, American funk music and sci-fi imagery. It was in Black American culture, however, that it turned into the sound we know today.

During the ‘90s, techno spread across the globe, creating new techno hubs in European cities like Berlin, Amsterdam, Ghent and Stockholm. The original Detroit sound was embraced by many during the ‘00s, with big events like I Love Techno, Awakenings and Timewarp adding to a more widespread appeal. In 2022, this captivating genre has become a worldwide phenomenon. From the Swedish stamina of Adam Beyer and the Dutch debauchery of Reinier Zonneveld to the German grit of Ben Klock – techno is here to stay.

This weekend, the Atmosphere stage is techno central at Tomorrowland. Today, Amelie Lens’ EXHALE is featuring a number of no-holds-barred DJs including Rødhåd, Farrago & Lens herself. On Saturday, they give the floor to Afterlife with, amongst others, Tale of Us, while on Sunday, it’s all about techno with the likes of Reinier Zonneveld Live and Monika Kruse. Time to get dancing!

This DJ wrote history back in 2018 as the very first hardstyle DJ to ever play the big and glorious Mainstage of Tomorrowland Belgium.

It was obviously a huge milestone for Coone, who had been one of the leading acts in the hardstyle scene for years by then; the first time he appeared in DJ Mag’s Top 100 was already back in 2011. Besides being a producer, Coone is also head honcho at his very own Dirty Workz label, which is where he released his 5th studio album Loyalty is Everything in 2020. Get ready for some hardstyle action and join Coone at the Sub Zero Project-hosted Youphoria stage, where he’ll play among many other artists specialised in jackhammer-tempo beats.
