Incredible SATURDAY
HISTORY HAS COME ALIVE! P E O P L E O F T O M O R ROW,
For those with their eye on Tomorrow, a goodbye is never truly a goodbye; for everything that happens is remembered, and may be relived in future times. And that, friends, is exactly what took place yesterday, amidst a spectacle of smoke and sounds, when the Book of Wisdom revealed itself to the People of Tomorrow once more. It was a warm and loving reunion, a renewed encounter with a past populated by familiar faces and the dearest of friends. Selected tales of the Tomorrowland saga resounded across the Mainstage valley, introducing some of you to those hallowed histories for the first time,
even as others revelled in recognition. Now that the Book is opened, however, what you knew already no longer matters. All that matters now is that you open the vaults of your mind to all you see before you, and transform the words of the Book into reality. For a word is not just a word, a book is not just a book, and the past is always, already, the future: what has been will be again, as soon as you decide to make it so. Today, you will make Tomorrow’s stories your own.
THE SECOND STANZA Day two. You know your way around now, so there’s no more excuses to miss your very favourite artists and DJs today. There’s a lot of them to choose from, though – let’s see what we can do to make the line-up an open book for you. So what’s on the program today across the Mainstage and the other magical centres of action? None other than Maceo Plex, DJ Snake, Nina Kraviz, Netsky, Young Thug, Zonderling, Gianluca Vacchi, Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo, Yves Deruyter, Afro Bros, Robag Whrume, Claude Vonstroke, Da Tweekaz, Brennan Heart… see p. 28 for more!

A WHIFF OF YESTERYEAR
ight, left, another left, up the ladder to the balcony, a squeeze between the tightly packed shelves… I carefully work my way through the library, following an appealing smell. Between the endless stacks of books, I come upon a tome overgrown with leaves. Could this be it? I reach out, take the book from its shelf, and to my surprise, it responds immediately. It folds itself open and I feel something funny crawling across my hand – roots,
with which it is holding me as much as I am holding it. There’s no going back now, and so I start leafing through the old, but lively pages. There are diagrams, intricate instructions; here, drawings of leaves, herbs and roots, then on the next page, a contraption with which to weigh them, and a cauldron. I realise that this book is a recipe, a manual for the manufacture of a very specific potion. On the center pages, I finally find it: The Elixir of Life. Leafing on, I learn the details of its story: it was made to distill the very essence of life into a single potion. It was drawn from the green of the trees, from the flight of the birds, the majesty of the lions, the song of the whales… All of it, each of Earth’s millions of creatures, lent
something to the Elixir, which was brewed in a ceremony attended by hundreds of thousands of people. And what a celebration it was! With singing, dancing, flag-waving, friendship-making and frolicking, these visionaries lent their own vital energy to the Elixir. When all was said and done, every living thing on Earth was united in that single, aromatic mixture. Satisfied that I have learnt its lesson, the book loosens its hold on me. Careful not to hurt it, I replace it on the shelf. Still, I feel a residual tingle, and I wonder… will the Elixir be with me for the rest of my days?

DREAMVILLE MORNING RITUALS AT
All dreams can come true; the only thing you have to do is wake up. And what a wake-up it was at DreamVille! Whether you were still recovering from The Gathering on Thursday, reminiscing about that juicy burger at the Farmhouse, or on a walk of shame back to your tent, there were a lot of stories to tell. While some were still trying to open their eyes and realise where they were (or where they should be), others were already good to start their day on this pleasant Friday morning, making their way to the showers, the hairdresser's, or to the Marketplace for an early morning latte run. Therefore, we asked the People of Tomorrow to share their stories: what will the first chapter of their day look like?
Bente from the Netherlands went straight for a latte run after she woke up. “I’m such a fan of yoghurt bowls, so this is the ideal combination. Oh, and it wouldn’t be complete without a newspaper!”
Hudson from the United States started this day wondering, “I just want to wear something unique on my first day at DreamVille. What do you think, would this outfit work for the rest of the weekend?”

An odd breakfast for Alex from Malaga. “I just needed something other than my usual ham and olives. I don’t know if my parents would approve, tough!”

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who has the best eyebrows of them all? Geraldine from Belgium could not wait to get ready for a new day. “You can’t write history with bad make-up,” she giggles.
“It’s the old battle,” Alida from Canada explains. “There will always be a disagreement between those who brush their teeth before breakfast, and the ones who do it after. I usually do it twice!”

Mahmoud from Egypt dives right in as the enters the showers. “I figured I had to be here early, so I could enjoy a longer shower.”
“I always try to start my day with a smoothie and a workout”, John from the United States chuckles “I was actually the first one at the Recovery Area this morning, they had to open it up especially for me.”
HUSTLE FOR THAT MUSCLE In desperate need of a good workout? Work that body at the Recovery Area, next to the Marketplace. Fitness coaches will guide you through the process of a good individual work-out or motivate you in the group sessions. Burpee away!

We found these two gentlemen playing a game of cards and enjoying this beautiful summer morning. Sergio and Ivan, will you be our kings of hearts?
BREAKFAST GOALS All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast, and guess what? Breakfast is served at DreamVille. A morning meal can be had throughout the campsite, with multiple hotspots under one roof at the Farmhouse, the Marketplace and the ChillOut Area. Whether it’s for fresh fruits, topped yoghurt, eggs and mushrooms or a healthy breakfast burger (yep, it’s a thing), the People of Tomorrow love to assemble for the most important meal of the day. “I needed something healthy after my long flight from Montréal, that’s why I chose this pineapple bowl. I had the intention of sharing it with my friends, but I’m not so sure anymore”, Olivier giggles. “There’s no ‘we’ in food, right?” Laura from Germany is also enjoying her healthy start of the day. “A fruity salad always works well for me.”
When in doubt, chill out. Lisa and Michelle from the Netherlands are taking their moment of rest from the tent to the hammock. When asked what the doubt was about, Michelle giggles. “We’re not sure what to have for breakfast yet.”

Nuno is calling homebound. “My one and only priority in the morning will always be my thirteen-year-old daughter. Although she’s a little jealous of her father being here,” he laughs.

TOMORROW’S TREASURE Every year, Tomorrowland sees a temporary city arise and offer a home to tens of thousands of people. But what happens to their houses here when they go back to their regular home? Unfortunately, many tents are abandoned every year, even though these treasured palaces are still fine to use for many nights to come. That is why Love Tomorrow has begun the CAMP2CAMP initiative, which collects all of the camping gear left behind and gives it a new lease of life.
In front of two tents, we find Jaromir, Zdenka, Klára and Dominika from the Czech Republic enjoying their morning. Dominika explains their reasoning: “For us, it was just very convenient as four friends coming here together. But it’s also great that you can do good for the world, without even noticing a difference.”
CAMP2CAMP offers several camping options at DreamVille, all of which feature tents that were sold at previous editions of Tomorrowland, but were orphaned by owners who were unable to take them home. Over the past year, these tents were thoroughly cleaned at social workshops, in an initiative to help unemployed people get work. All cleaned up and ready for round two, the tents are pre-pitched at a separate DreamVille zone, welcoming campers who have travelled from far and wide to come here. There’s even an option – only available with booking up front – to rent refurbished camping gear as well, down to sleeping bags and folding chairs to sit on. That way, CAMP2CAMP visitors only need to bring their shining smiles and a change of clothes!

Everything gets carefully cleaned and repaired
Sharon and Angela travelled a long way to get here. “We had a really long flight with a lot of layovers,” Sharon explains. “The CAMP2CAMP tents are so convenient, since you don’t have to bring anything yourself. It’s cool that you are supporting a sustainability project as well, just by camping in these tents.”
Preventing waste Why go through all the effort of collecting, cleaning and redistributing the gear, you might wonder, if you could just toss the old stuff and buy new tents? The answer is that the production of new camping gear uses enormous amounts of resources and costs a lot of energy. Cleaning might be labourintensive, but it doesn’t cost thousands of litres of water, and nor does it require us to extract new plastics and other materials from Mother Earth. Unline new production, the proces also creates fair jobs for local people.
7
Spreading the love Besides the advantages already mentioned, CAMP2CAMP spreads benefits in the local community at a wider scale. For one, the concept and camping gear supply are shared with other festivals. This way, the gear sees even more use, preventing additional unnecessary production of stuff. Furthermore, when not in use at festivals, tents are rented out to local people who are on a tight budget, so that they can still enjoy a camping holiday even if they can’t afford a full kit. Yesterday’s trash truly becomes tomorrow’s treasure!

UNITING THE FLAVOURS
Your cooking will be even more good-looking from now on! So many People of Tomorrow are known for their exquisite taste, and now they can remind themselves of the journey they’ve made this weekend every time they stir up their own tastes of the world. At Staub’s stand behind the Mainstage, you can invest in your cooking with one of their cast-iron cocottes. Staub’s classic pots, also known as casseroles, have long been a favourite of many chefs want to give their flavours all the time in the world to flourish. If you buy one here, you can even get the knob engraved with a personal message. A name or a special date, perhaps? Whatever you choose, Staub will take care of delivery to your home, so that you can continue your journey without any hassle.
HELP OUT THE PLANET
All across the Holy Grounds, Love Tomorrow aims to reclaim materials for re-use. Why? It’s the planet, silly! If we are to more towards a sustainable Tomorrow – that means a Tomorrow wherein we can enjoy Tomorrowland yearly, forever – we need to seriously cut down on our use of new materials such as plastics. Therefore, you are kindly asked to help recycle. It’s as simple as throwing your rubbish into the right bin! These are the categories:
HOUSE PARTY
‘Mi casa es su casa’ is something you can take quite literally in Corona's case. They're inviting all of their friends – which of course includes all of the People of Tomorrow – to join them at their house party. Located right across from the Day Entrance, Casa Corona is an inviting affair indeed: with views over the lake, sofas to chill on with your friends and a line-up hosted by We Play House on Friday, Contrair on Saturday and So You Think You Can Funk on Sunday, there really is no reason not to drop by. If, however, you need some more convincing: picture that ice-cold Corona with a fresh slice of lime on a sweltering Belgian summer's day, or tempt your tastebuds with a special Corona cocktail. Then make your way to play couch potato with your mates by the waterside, or head straight to the dance floor to add the house to their 'house' party! Check out Casa Corona daily from 14h30 to 22h00.
LIGHT UP LIKE THE SUN Want to impress the cutie you locked eyes with during one of the shows? There’s a little something that will do just the trick, and it’s available at all the drinks bars you’ll see as you twirl around from show to show. Dancing will make you thirsty, after all, and Red Bull has been quenching people’s thirst from the very first edition of Tomorrowland. Their energy drink, combined with some Absolut Vodka, makes for a beverage that’s been a favourite for as long as anyone can remember – but now it comes with just the twist the seducer in you needed. All new, uniquely designed LED cups are available with this drink, and they light up like the sun as soon as the gorgeous liquids are poured in. You’ll have to see it to believe it! These magic chalices can be purchased with your Absolut Vodka – Red Bull drink for 1 Pearl extra.
Michelle (26) from Belgium: “It lights up as soon as the drink is poured, it’s bedazzling! I’m definitely taking this cup home with me so I can show my friends this little cup of magic.” 9
THE ECO RIDER
Bye Bye Plastic by Cellini
Belgian talent Cellini has come on strong on the local scene with his characteristic atmospheric techno, making it to Dave Clarke’s stage on Friday through Cycle Four, the nightlife platform he set up together with famous nightclub FUSE. Should there have been an award for the most green and eco-conscious DJ at Tomorrowland, it would’ve been for Cellini to take home. “During the IMS at Ibiza I took part in a beach cleanup, and that opened my eyes and inspired me to take action,” he explains. “I support the concept ‘The Eco Rider’, an initiative to make artist riders plasticfree, and invited some colleagues to get on board. Where possible, we avoid using plastic straws, bottles and cups. At Tomorrowland this year, we even chose some second-hand Persian carpets and recycled materials to decorate the stage. I live in Brussels, so I took part in the climate strikes and was inspired by them, but my main goal is to make people think about sustainability, talk about it and keep it on top of the agenda. We’re not going to change the world by having DJs not use plastic cups, but if we can keep the conversation going, we’re one step closer to a better, cleaner and greener world.”

ARTISTS FIRST, ALWAYS The music industry is a notorious one. Many stories from behind the scenes resemble the Wild West tales of yore, and not always in a good way. So what do you do when you’ve had enough? You take total control and start your own record label. The world’s number one DJ, Martin Garrix, launched STMPD – named after his father’s stamp auction company – back in 2016. The company has achieved a lot since: a recording studio came into being, their curated stage at Tomorrowland now has a great reputation, and last but not least, they’ve fostered a close-knit family of like-minded producers which has become a force to be reckoned with. No less than seven of the label’s prodigies huddled down together on a sofa to explain exactly what it is they’re doing – and where the impetus came from. “I discovered first-hand what it’s like to be signed to a label where your demos end up on the shelf and people tell you what do creatively,” says Martijn Garritsen (Martin Garrix’s given name). “What you want foremost as an artist is the freedom to be able to create what you want. You want a team behind you that supports you no matter which direction you take.” Big plans became even bigger for Martijn when he noticed the high level of dedication and competency of the emerging team around himself. “I wanted to use all of these assets for my own work
at first, but then I thought about how amazing it would be if like-minded artists could also use these facilities. I’m talking studios and A&R people, but also designers who deliver artwork for releases, and anything else you can think of.” Bart van der Meer aka Bart B More – an artist Martijn was already listening to when he’d never even tried his hand at music production himself – confirms the supportive atmosphere that surrounds STMPD Records: “We brainstorm a lot together. It 0 110
One of the youngest talents in the Dutch electronic scene, Todd Helder played Minecraft so often, the game’s soundtrack is now an influence in many of his tracks – they’re full of otherworldly bleeps and glitches that will sound familiar if you’re a gamer yourself. Todd’s incredible paranoia-themed recent single ‘Talking About Me’ reveals a wide range of further references, going from ambient to southern US-style hiphop and onto mind-boggling future bass, all within one track.
can be a chaotic process, we’re all creatives, after all. But then the STMPD people join the conversation – designers, A&R people, anyone – and they’ll pick out the best things we brought up in the discussion. They’ll say, ‘this is something we can take to the next level’. The vibe is amazing, you even feel the passion from people like studio technicians. Unlike some other labels, STMPD really feels like a second home.”
TOMORROWLAND TODAY
THE BOOK OF WISDOM THE RETURN
One of electronic music’s most trusted trademarks Unlike many competitors in the industry, STMPD openly invites producers out there to send demos to the label. The approach is considered unorthodox within today’s industry, but it makes sense considering Martijn’s career path as he – hard as it may be to imagine today – had trouble finding an audience for his productions as a talented teenager. “I sent hundreds of demos to record labels and never heard anything back. It’s just so incredibly frustrating, it brings you down, it’s discouraging, exactly the opposite of what you
BELGIUM 2019

need as a young artist. I disliked this mechanism in the music industry, which is why I decided to take on a much more open and transparent way of finding new talents.” Even with their open approach to finding new music, most artists get signed to STMPD through personal connections. The TV Noise boys, for example, have been friends of Martijn since his early teens. “I made one of my first tracks ever with them when we were just twelve or thirteen

Like most of his STMPD buddies, Bart B More masters an incredible variety of electronic styles, but retains his own identity throughout everything he releases. Hailing from Utrecht, the Netherlands, this producer is also a gifted DJ who can adjust his sets to wherever he’s being asked to play: from the world’s biggest festivals, such as Tomorrowland, to underground clubs such as Fabric in London, Womb in Tokyo and Razzmatazz in Barcelona. Bart is STMPD’s most experienced artist and has inspired Martin Garrix ever since the latter was a young child.

years old,” says Martijn. “We’ve always remained friends, kept sending each other tracks and I played a lot of their work in my sets around the world. It only felt natural to start releasing their work via STMPD.” Other signings came about in a more coincidental kind of way. “We signed Osrin after he did a remix of my track ‘So Far Away’ which he’d uploaded for free to his SoundCloud page,” says Martijn. We then received a message saying that someone had uploaded my work without permission. So we checked out the remix, and it was just so incredible that I started playing it out in my sets. One of our A&R guys, Steven, signed that remix to STMPD and lots of beautiful music by Osrin has come out on our label since. It’s amazing how things fall into place sometimes.” Contributing to the fact that each and every STMPD artist seems to be happy to be signed to the label is the family vibe that is felt between everyone, even on this red velvet sofa, backstage at Tomorrowland. “You sometimes return from the STMPD studio and you feel all energised,” says label signee Eauxmar. All others instantly agree. “The very best thing about sharing a studio is that it allows you to work in a very social and direct way,” says Martijn. “Back in the days, when I was working from home, I’d be alone in my bedroom, and I would sometimes really be stuck with an idea. It was writer’s block, really. Now, in our studio complex, everyone can just walk up to someone else. They’ll tell you, ‘this is amazing!’ and that’s just so encouraging. You can also count on the others to tell you whenever something sucks, but that’s only a good thing. The fact that we work in each other’s physical proximity means you don’t have to try and decipher a complicated email. This just works so much better.” One of the most impressive things about STMPD are the curated stages, something they’ve been doing for a few years now. “We all share a certain uniqueness and energy in our work,” says Yael Nahar, aka CMC$. “It’s likely that if someone likes one STMPD artist, they will also like the others. All of us produce energetic, sincere music, unlike much of the samey stuff that’s out there. It’s like a quality trademark, and our STMPD stage gives us the chance to present ourselves as a group. It’s also an opportunity for fans to see us all together and to properly discover new artists they like. 12

SWEET TOOTH TOMORROWLAND Unless you’ve lived under a rock for the past few months, you knew this already: Tomorrowland is turning fifteen this year. Tomorrowland’s adventures and achievements aren’t so bad for a teenager, so this milestone certainly deserves a celebration. World-renowned Belgian patissier Roger van Damme observed the honours: he baked a cake of magnanimous proportions, an artwork in and of itself, just to mark the fifteenth year of Tomorrow. Where to start with a creation of this size? Even for Roger, it’s not a simple task, as conditions are quite different from what he’s used to. “The heat requires the cake to be very sturdy, so I used marsipan as a coating, something I normally rarely do. But in this case, it’s very handy. The marsipan provides the cake with a strong framework and it certainly won’t collapse now, even if temperatures rise above 30 degrees Celsius. What’s inside that amazing-looking palace of a cake then? “There’s basically three steps to making a cake,” says Van Damme. “Naturally, I started with the base, which is made of biscuits and almonds. I then added several layers of cream, which contains butter and gives the cake body. At the end I added some final punch to the cake by plastering it with marsipan.” Surely, Van Damme’s creation stands the test of beauty. But what’s a cake if it can’t be eaten? Turn the page to see what happens when the People of Tomorrow join in the celebrations!

AN ISLAND OF MUSIC
Floating on water, surrounded by flowers, and immersed in beats coming from up, down, left and right, the LEAF stage is once again powered by JBL this year. Last year, the audio brand threw their watertight speakers into the pond surrounding them, but this time, you can keep your feet dry and still enjoy sounds coming from all over the place. With their brand new Partybox 1100 hidden in the floors and ceilings, covered in flowers and decoration, you’re in for a ride: this new portable speaker, rated at 1100 Watts, is enough to bring Tomorrowland to your own backyard and invite the whole neighborhood to party along. Guy Mantzur, Sebastien Leger, Hernan Cattaneo, Artbat and Mambo Brothers are but a few of the artists to try out the sound system at LEAF this weekend, and with those references, you can’t really go wrong, right? Head down to the island to sit down, have a listen and enjoy the scenery.
NEVER OUT OF JUICE
Sending a message of love, hearing a warm voice filled with joy at the other end of the line; going out for a while, knowing that you’ll be able to connect with your friends a bit later… and sharing the memories you’re making with the people you hold dear. Proximus don’t want anything standing in the way of that, and that is why you can visit them at the Marketplace to acquire a powerbank. 16 Pearls will get you a Tomorrowland-branded powerbank that you can exchange for a fully charged one as many times as you want to, for no extra fee. This way you will always have the power in your pocket to be as connected as you’d like. Upon return of this especially-designed source of energy, you will be credited 8 Pearls, meaning that 8 Pearls is all it takes to ease the worry of finding a power socket when needed. You are also more than welcome to keep the collector’s item, to hold a lasting memory for Tomorrow! 19
MAKING MEMORIES
Instagram is full of People of Tomorrow sharing their memories for all to see. But sometimes, holding those memories physically in your hands, as an addition to the digital version, can spark just a little extra joy. One wonders what could be made if they were collected and displayed as one united piece of art… right? Well, wonder no further. Navigate towards the Garden of Madness and discover the T-Room by Lipton Ice Tea, just a stone’s throw away. Here you have the opportunity to take breathtaking pictures in the gorgeous surroundings, and if you share them publicly on Instagram with the hashtag #everythingisbetterwhentogether, the picture will be printed out and placed on the Instagram wall proudly displayed for all to see. You will also get a copy to take home. And while you’re there, the cocktails that the handsome men and women behind the bar passionately shake together are very tasteful too. Which one will tickle your fancy – the Passion United, the Grasshopper, or the Mellow Yellow, perhaps? You have all weekend to decide…. or to try them all, of course!

Have an appetite for Korean food? Look no further, as you can find delicious dumplings, fresh spring rolls and tasty noodles right behind the Mainstage and at several other locations. You know you want those tasty, healthy treats!
Love Tomorrow Kebab is a veganfriendly alternative to that popular snack. Greenway’s chef, Paul Florizoone, explains that the wrap is a mix of a tortilla wrap, lettuce, cabbage, soy/wheat-based kebab and loads of different spices. “With our products, we want to show everyone that plant-based food can be just as good as eating meat. We really believe this is the future.”

M E SA
This year a new restaurant enters the Holy Grounds of Tomorrowland. Located in the tent next to the entrance to the Cage, restaurant MESA offers a beautiful view over the lake. Besides the airy location, though, this is the place to be for shared dining, state-of-the-art cocktails and listening to the music of resident DJs.
03
Guests had to make their reservations before they came to the festival and are seated randomly once they visit MESA. “Naturally, people that made their reservations together can sit together,” the host explains. “But for us, it is so beautiful to see how easily people connect once they are seated at a single table,” the host states. “We also have sort of a no phone policy, except for taking pictures and urgent matters, of course.”
04 04
“A one-off menu was created with the festival in mind by our creative chef Michiel de Bruyn and chef Laurens Sijssens,” a host says as he guides new guests to their places. “Our guests come from everywhere, and what we want to share is our unity. We had to translate that into our menu.” ‘Unity’ is also the key word for the entire experience. The chefs cook with ingredients that come from passionate growers, farmers, and producers who respect traditional methods of preparation.
Ho t do g s
Looking for fresh, home-made sausages? Here’s a good option that will satisfy your appetite. At the hotdog court, you can choose between a regular or an Italian hotdog, with an additional choice of toppings and dressings. They’ll wrap it extra tight for you in a delicious bun!

As the host return to his tables, a young lady is drinking a cocktail on the terrace outside. “I’m not entirely sure what it is,” she says, “I taste ginger and cilantro – it’s really refreshing.” A chuckle coming from behind the bar indicates chef Paul Morel’s approval. “I created these cocktails in order to match the menu we work with. We use similar herbs, in order to blend the cocktails in with the rest of the dishes perfectly. There’s a Mexican-inspired cocktail as well,” he adds. Truly, unity is what MESA preaches – and judging from people’s enthusiastic chatter as they leave, the plan is working.

ONE WORLD RADIO LOVE IS IN THE AIRWAVES Oliver Heldens squeezes in a quick chat with the radio hosts and a swift set on the Mainstage before taking off to Ibiza.
The American DJ phenomenon Steve Aoki came in to talk about his upcoming memoir ‘Blue: The Colour of Noise’. He discussed how much work he’s put into crafting all of his stories and experiences into one big wise book.
The initial idea was to celebrate 15 years of Tomorrowland with a temporary 24/7 radio station that would feature exclusive tracks, unique mixes, new releases and the most iconic live sets from the vaults of the festival. But as the concept grew over the course of the last year, and became hugely successful during Tomorrowland Winter, Tomorrowland – One World Radio will keep on going. Providing a new standard in live dance music radio, it has become the go-to place for People of Tomorrow to keep updated with what’s what and who’s who in today’s overall electronic music scene. Presenter Adam K explains: “Tomorrowland – One World Radio was officially launched here, on these very grounds. Exactly where the Mainstage is, none other than Steve Aoki dropped a DJ set. Steve just loved it, and that was it! We were in, up and going. The next thing we did was Tomorrowland Winter, where we built a big studio on top of the mountain, and what followed was one highlight after another. Other achievements include the Tomorrowland Top 1000 and the Ibiza 500, where we did a week’s worth of broadcasting from a boat. We had special DJ sets by Sunnery and Claptone there, it was fantastic. You can watch everything we do on YouTube as well. For this weekend, well… The whole thing our station was set up for was to celebrate 15 years of Tomorrowland, and that’s exactly what we’re doing right here, right now. We’re going live for two weekends, we’ll get in the mix with all of Tomorrowland’s stages, and we’ll have a chat with a whole bunch of artists. The idea was to bring the radio station to an end after these two weekends, and August was meant to be some free time for my colleagues and me, but that idea’s gone:
"Ever Since the launch in February we've been from one climax to the next"

“We’ll even be carrying on after the second weekend. Tomorrowland - One World Radio stays in the air!”
we’re carrying on! And we’re everywhere, we’re on the app, we’re on the Tomorrowland website, we’re actually in the FM airwaves on Ibiza, on DAB+ in Belgium... The job is a ton of fun to do, as we’ve got our own presenters Justin, Valerie, Camille and me, but also NERVO doing the regular chart show and Armin van Buuren doing the weekend kick-off. Besides that, Salvatore Ganacci’s always coming in on the phone - it’s like an extended family. This weekend, we hijacked the StuBru studio by The Gathering on Thursday, and then we moved to the festival in to broadcast live from deep down in the Madness. Justin and Valerie will be going live during the Daybreak Sessions, and then I’ll do three in the afternoon until one at night. So tune in and get in on the Madness!”
Julian Jordan voiced his love for back to back DJ-sets, and said that there’s no better feeling in the world than trying to play the best tracks while attempting to top one another.
Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano were invited for a quick game of ‘guess the remix’ and had to correctly guess as many remixes as possible - in time!

A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME
Can’t get enough of celebrating this anniversary? Then don't! Go to the TML by Tomorrowland Boutique and keep the spirit alive with the 15 Years Compilation. With this essential album, you can celebrate the magical anniversary of Tomorrowland with the biggest electronic anthems of the past 15 years, time and time again. There’s one full mix for each year, spread out across 5 CDs, which are packaged in their own little Book of Wisdom.
FROM CUBA WITH LOVE
The Cubans know a thing or two about exquisite rum, so when word spread that a special edition TML XV rum was available at Bar Mañana by Havana Club, things had to be investigated further. Havana Club’s Masters of Cuban Rum turn out to be the guardians of the well-kept secrets of the Cuban art of anejamiento, a distinctive ageing process exclusive to Cuban rums. The blend of the TML XV limited edition rum is a secret that will never be told, but forever be cherished. Asbel, the Master who created it, only wishes to disclose the spiritual ingredients – and some birthday wishes of his own. What does it mean to be a Havana Club Maestro del Ron Cubano? “The guild of Masters of Cuban Rum have been trained for at least 15 years before being appointed. Then, using our combined knowledge and passion, we carefully monitor every stage of the distillation and blending process. We respect the quality of our ingredients, learn the noblest traditions of our forefathers and generously leave our own creations to age, so that future generations can enjoy what we have created.” What inspired the taste you’ve created? Did you have the People of Tomorrow and the celebration of 15 years of Tomorrowland in mind while creating the special TML XV rum? “There is no greater ingredient than passion. In my exchanges with Tomorrowland’s creative team, we discussed what makes Tomorrowland so special, and we soon agreed that it was not that different from what makes Havana Club unique. We both believe in the power of energy, creativity and togetherness. I thus took my inspiration from what I know best: Cuba and the streets of Havana. TML XV is an exceptional rum that has been aged in Cuba for a minimum of 12 years, and I am exceptionally proud of the final blend we have created. I’d like to wish Tomorrowland and all the People of Tomorrow a very happy 15th anniversary!” 22 44

ATMOSPHERE
Defected Records-associated organisation Glitterbox has proven to be a very successful concept in Ibiza over the past five years, bringing nostalgic soulful house and disco back to the glamorous island. The brainchild of Defected boss Simon Dunmore, Glitterbox is returning to Tomorrowland for the second time after bringing excellent discotheque vibes to Belgium last year. Their hosting at Cage was and will be an ode to the original club culture of New York, all disco balls, glitters, and vibes, vibes, vibes. Undoubtedly spectacular performances will be given by Mr. Dunmore himself as a DJ, alongside The Shapeshifters, original NYC house don Roger Sanchez, and many more exquisite selectors of ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s club music, all pushing that driving beat.
One of the true ambassadors of underground, dirty techno, Russia’s Nina Kraviz’s ever-inspiring sets have spread around the world and contributed to a growing, fanatic fanbase. She’s invited some of the most exciting names in current techno to play her stage. There’s no veteran-style blasts from the past here, but current, relevant artists who are making big waves in the scene right now. From Hamburg hails Golden Pudel resident Helena Hauff, who shares Nina’s love for analogue, uncompromising electro and techno sounds. Another highlight, Britishborn Paula Temple, played the Organ of Harmony last year and tore the place down with her punishing techno sounds - she’s no doubt planning to do an even better job this year.
With invariably strong releases year on year, Berlin’s excellent Afterlife Records has grown to become one of the strongest and most respected imprints when it comes to melodic, mind-bending techno. It’s music that truly takes you to another level, makes your heart skip a beat, makes your stomach feel fluttery and takes you into a deep state of trance. Naturally, they’re bringing some of the strongest artists from their stunning roster to Tomorrowland, including Kevin de Vries, Axel Haube, Agents of Time (live), Stephan Bodzin (live) and, of course, Italy’s most famous techno duo, Tale of Us, one of the highestranking artists in the Resident Advisor Top 100 (that’s the one that ranks the planet’s best underground DJs).

You won’t be needing any wake-up calls about what to do with your life this weekend, as we’re pretty sure you’re on holiday. A relaxing wake-up call by one of the world’s most gifted DJs however… Who would say no to that? Get ready for a special one today, with Cuban-American techno and house producer Eric Estornel, aka Maceo Plex! With current and past residencies at Ibiza’s most famous clubs, including Pacha, Space and Amnesia, Maceo Plex is a force to be reckoned with. Not only does he know to get the hedonistic Balearic crowds jumping, he’s also got a large amount of fans among serious lovers of underground electronic music. Besides being a DJ and a musician, Estornel is also a business man, so he knows very well how to cater to his very diverse set of admirers - a quality that comes inhandy when doing a Daybreak Session. That is because Daybreak Sessions aren’t meant to be high-octane sets, but showcases of how far you can take it as a DJ; the slots are a challenge as well as an adventure for the people taking place behind the decks. For Maceo Plex in particular, this is likely to cause him to diverge a little from the dramatic, mesmerizing techno sound he’d play during a typical Ibiza set and go back to more minimal-sounding treats, potentially even with some dub influences. Get ready for a hazy, relaxing dance floor experience!

GIANLUCA VACCHI FOCUS ON INCREDIBLE SATURDAY YOUPHORIA | 18h40 – 21h00
Gianluca Vacchi, one of Italy’s most Instafamous entrepreneurs, got into DJing about three years ago. He soon began to combine his gigs with the promotion of a successful club night in Ibiza, starting last summer. This year, he’s taking his musical career to the next level with his very own curated stage at Tomorrowland. Time to introduce this Italian sensation to the world!
“I come from a musical family. The famous composer Fabio Vacchi is a cousin of mine and my Argentinian grandmother was a piano teacher. My passion for music has always been there, but I’ve only made it public recently. The Latin thing began to take shape when I started to put videos of myself dancing up on Instagram. The way I dance works best with Latin music and when artists like Becky G and J Balvin saw the footage, they asked me to also film myself dancing to their music.”
Gianluca, this is your first appearance on Tomorrowland. How do you feel about playing here? “It’s a big honour and I’m super-excited about bringing some new content to the festival.”
You took DJ lessons to improve your skills when you first started out. What was that like? “I’ve always been very curious about the trade. I often watched DJs at work in the booth, wondering what they did. When I started DJing I realised that being popular would help me to get started, but that to really build a career I would need skills. So I started to practice five, six hours a day under the supervision of Antonello Coghe, who’s worked with Little Louie Vega of the American production duo Masters At Work.”
What type of new content can we expect from you, then? “It will be more or less in line with what I’ve done last year in Ibiza. I’m generally a humble guy, but I think I can safely say that I changed the market in Ibiza. The new format that I brought to Amnesia is a mix between live Latin acts and DJs playing electronic music. You can’t simply play reggaeton all night, as people will get tired of it, but if you combine it with EDM it works. Pacha adopted the idea as well after it proved to be successful in Amnesia.” Can you say something about the origins of your passion for music?
Is there a specific trick that was an eye-opener for you? Something that you love to do again and again when you’re on stage? “At the end of the day, once you own the technical side, what you really need to be able to do is read the crowd. I generally propose three musical directions and then decide what works best by seeing how the crowd reacts. It’s like in business, really, when you don’t have 29
the courage to change your mind, you’re not going to be a great man.” How did you select the artists that will perform on your stage? Are they mostly part of your personal network? “Many of them are, yes. Others are artists I admire, like the Afro Bros, who will be closing the stage. For me, they are the best producers of new sounds, elements you don’t hear in other people’s music. Generally, I’ve invited people with whom I share a common energy.” If you had to name one act on your stage no one should miss, who would it be? “It would be an MC called Manuel Turizo. He’s behind the only Brazilian song recorded on a mobile phone app with more than one billion streams. He’s just nineteen years old, grew up in a favela and had no money to record in a studio, but he has one of the best voices in Latin music.”

LOST FREQUENCIES
Lost Frequencies & Friends (Lotus) | 21h15 – 22h25 Still very young, Felix de Laet aka Lost Frequencies can already pride himself on a fanatic global following. His is a diverse discography of ecstatic, melodic tracks with a tropical twang. His biggest hits ‘Are You With Me’ and ‘Reality’ are definitely the ones which skyrocketed his career, but he’s since worked with an impressive bunch of artists to build on these foundations. His collaborators include James Blunt, Netsky and Zonderling, and he’s done remixes for the biggest pop stars on the planet including Major Lazer and Justin Bieber. Lost Frequencies’ melodies are best enjoyed with friends; his own as well as yours, that is, for he is hosting the Lotus stage today.

ARMIN VAN BUUREN
OF THE BOOK OF WISDOM
Mainstage | 21h50 – 22h50 DJs and producers changes styles all the time. It happens as genres come and go, and you can’t really blame them. Armin van Buuren, though, has always stuck to his favourite style - trance - and it’s caused him to become and remain one of the very biggest DJs in the world. And indeed, he continues to deliver on all levels. His label Armada is going as strong as ever, he keeps on doing his State of Trance show with as much love and passion as he did when he first started out in 2001, and his DJ sets continue to mesmerise fans from all over the globe. This ‘boy next door’ looks like he could be a hairdresser, a shop clerk, your personal trainer or your best friend, but wait until he snuggles up with his headphones on the Mainstage – he will not disappoint the raver in you. Expect a wide range of Armin’s own lofty and classic productions; trance as you know, it with a few flavours of EDM and harder dance styles thrown in. Whether you’re a trance veteran who’s seen him before or a Tomorrowland first timer, this performance is set to be one the highlights of your second festival day.
DA TWEEKAZ
ROGER SANCHEZ
Norway’s Da Tweekaz work very well as a team. While one of them mixes in the next tune, the other will have time to interact with one of the crazy dancers near the stage (their fans and groupies are something else, as you will see!). Within the hardstyle scene, the two are known to have fewer limits than anyone else: they’ll do tricks with liquor, play Disney songs, they may hand out shots to the crowd. Their songs are a little mad too - one is about Jägermeister, another about tequila and another still about vodka. Oh boy, if you’re looking for trouble, you know where to go!
In Roger Sanchez' eyes, music is cyclical. It's about drawing influences from the past and re-imagining it in a completely different way. Sanchez’ musical roots go all the way back to the mid-eighties, when the then teenage breakdancer started DJ’ing and became fascinated with the new style of house music that made its way from Chicago to his home in New York. A twenty-plus-year veteran of the electronic music game and a label owner, Sanchez’ musical output has gone back towards a slower, funkier style of dance music over the past years. And that's the essence of Sanchez: “I'm always moving forward, but never losing sight of where I've been.”

Netsky & Friends (Garden of Madness)
Mind Against is the project of Alessandro and Federico Fognini, Italian-born but based in Berlin. Those two geographical factors might give you an idea of how their sublime mixture of sound feels: etching a musical amalgam that draws from the combined roots of IDM, house and techno, they’ve managed to carve a well-earned place for themselves amidst like-minded musicians such as Tale of Us and Pan-Pot. The duo coax on psychedelic hooks of the 1980s and dance floor anthems bound traditionally to European soil. This backdrop makes for releases and performances that do well against any canvas, especially the one they’ll have at Tale of Us’ Afterlife hosting at the Atmosphere stage.
You blinked and it happened: over the course of just a few years, Netsky grew out to be one of the biggest names in drum & bass. One of the key strengths of the Belgian producer turned out to be his faith in his own productions. The title of his 2010 song ‘Memory Lane’ happened to be visionary; it is now one of the key hits of the genre, one that people keep on going back to when they wish to go on a trip down - yes memory lane! Netsky is hosting his own stage today, so if you like his sound, you’ll want to check out his friends’ sets as well.

Two years ago, Oscar and the Wolf were the very first live band to perform at Tomorrowland (leaving aside the National Orchestra of Belgium, who performed at the Opera Stage in 2015). They’ve been a more than welcome guest of the festival ever since. Oscar and the Wolf’s frontman Max Colombie has arguably been the biggest pop star in Belgium – an accolade given to him by no other than Elton John – for over half a decade now. The band manages to score on the international scene with what the highbrow music press might refer to as ‘überpop’ or even ‘metapop’. As behooves a Belgian act, Oscar and the Wolf can’t be placed in one box or category. With each single, EP or album come new shapes, forms, structures and feelings. Whether they’re putting on their best emo-Kanye impression with smooth and horny R&B, dancing barefoot in a downpour of glitter and glam, or getting their Roger Sanchez on with a disco-inspired track like ‘On Fire’: the beast has many heads. This wolf won’t bite – rather, it seduces you a little more every time it howls at the moon and arches its back into a swirl of terrifyingly sexy beats.
A former resident DJ at legendary Belgian clubs such as Globe, Barocci, Cherrymoon, Extreme, Carat and La Rocca, Yves Deruyter is potentially the most prominent of all veteran DJs from this country. Not only will his name be forever connected to these clubs; he’s also very much part of the Bonzai Records family, a chief outlet for some of the world’s biggest rave anthems throughout the nineties. Rave, trance and a little touch of early hardcore is what you’ll hear Deruyter play in his sets; it’s about time you closed your eyes and started raising your hands. 31
Nina Kraviz (l’Orangerie)
Helena Hauff started her career as a resident DJ for one of the dustiest, grittiest clubs on the planet: Golden Pudel in Hamburg. You’d be forgiven to think you were in a squat rather than a club upon entering this Northern German hotbed of underground electronic music. With such a background, it makes sense not to expect any cheesiness from this brilliant DJ/producer. What do her sets sound like, then? Think acid house, electronic body music, minimal wave and Dutch West Coast electro. It’ll make your face cringe, make your feet dance a little faster and hook your heart into high BPMs. Glorious.
