FRIDAY
MUSIC-MADE MADNESS
As you are about to experience, perfume – the Elixir of Life – has the power to guide you to other places. But music, our other companion for the weekend, has the power to make you lose yourself completely. From the Rave Cave’s intimate Winterclubbing vibes to the enormous buildups & drops at the Mainstage, from Ørjan Nilsen’s high-energy trance at TranceAddict to two hours of heavy, throbbing techno with Pig&Dan at mau5trap vs. Pryda, Tomorrowland offers just about any style you can imagine. Before you go to the festival today, take a moment to study the line-up and choose what sets you best – and remember, it is the music that makes the madness.
Festival-Goers,
TRAVEL LIGHT!
Please leave backpacks and large bags at DreamVille if you can. There wil be separate queues and security checks for people with backpacks, which means you’ll get into the festival faster without them.

Avoiders of Insects,
USE REPELLANT!
It’s not just the Elixir that smells delicious; you do, too. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes have caught wind of that as well. Use mosquito repellant (available at the Camping Store) and make way for the exterminator teams!
PEOPLE oF TOMORROW,
STEP INTO THE MARVELOUS MAZE! You have proven to be worthy, friends. A whole day long, you begged to be let in; a whole day long, you reveled and you clamoured. Now, the time has come to congratulate yourselves. You are about to enter the place where Life is distilled, where the scent that brought you here is brewed. Inside, you will find many wonders. There is a factory, for instance, where the wind is made, birthed from still air into sky. The wind (in other words, the wings of fragrance) will soon bring to you a myriad of music, drifting from stages spread far and wide.

In one corner of the labyrinth of Life, a Rose Garden is to be found. An old friend and warden of Tomorrowland has breached the surface of the waters there. Will you be there to meet it? Or would you rather venture straight for the heart of Tomorrow, at the foothills of the famous pit? Which path will you choose to go down first, and wherever shall it take you? There is but one way to discover, dear children. You stand outside the maze that hides away the Elixir from the world; now, the time has come to conquer it.

THE FIRST DAY OF DREAMS Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Yesterday Tomorrowland’s notorious camp site, DreamVille, opened up its gates. 35,000 festivalgoers from all over the world came together to kick off their weekend of ‘Full Madness’. We were on-site to witness the events – and boy, did mad things happen. Tomorrowland hasn’t competely discarded the concept of camping, but to say that it has at least redefined the notion is an understatement of massive proportions. What’s more: those who chose to spend their nights on the green grounds of Boom didn’t find themselves staying on any ordinary campsite. It’s all
This here This is our story This is the journey of our lives
in the name: if Tomorrowland is a country, then DreamVille is its capital. “This weekend we’ve got just as many inhabitants as your average Belgian village,” a Tomorrowland spokesperson underlined the point. We saw people lining up, hauling backpacks and tons of camping material, while waiting patiently to enter the campsite. The sun sure fueled the fire little pearls of sweat being exchanged from body to body as the crowd moved its way in. Nevertheless the DreamVille villagers never let that get in the way of a great atmosphere. Au contraire: people relieving themselves of their clothes until only the bare minimum
remained gave the air a beautiful electric charge of attraction. There was a moment when things got a bit chaotic when a very rare Pokémon appeared in the fountains on the Main Square of DreamVille, hundreds of inhabitants gathering ‘round to examinate and catch it. The commotion ended when the stewards announced that there’ll be similarly magical, but real, creatures appearing during the weekend. There’s even some hidden inside the Mainstage, they said. And the people of DreamVille got on with their business – ready for the weekend that was yet in store for them.

What’s more fun than travelling to Tomorrowland? Right, travelling to Tomorrowland together with fellow citizens of Tomorrow! That’s what the people who were lucky enough to catch a spot on board of the Global Journey flights and railroad trips thought. They hopped on planes and trains all over the world, from Bejing to London, to be submerged into the Tomorrowland vibe from the moment they boarded. But of course there are always people that take it a little bit further: the lucky few that can cross an item off of their (and everyone else’s) bucket list, because they went on a Eurotrip! And what better way to combine the trip of a lifetime than with the festival of a lifetime? Over one hundred exhilarated people boarded flights from their home country to visit Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Paris, Ibiza and Budapest. But not everyone had to fly so far to Discover Europe!
Diego and Christina
Belgian couple Mathieu and Elien are living not too far from Boom, and they’re on their second honeymoon. The happy couple got married two weeks ago and spent their first honeymoon at the Belgian beach, a low-key way to spend some time together. Mathieu got hold of tickets to Tomorrowland after, but didn’t manage to grab one for Elien, so she planned to work this weekend. Not a very romantic way to spend your second weekend as husband and wife, of course. When radio station Studio Brussel found out about this, they decided to grant the newlyweds a ticket to Discover Europe Ibiza! An unexpected gift, catapulting them into their Summer of Love. Going to Tomorrowland together is extra special for the two lovebirds,

Naturally, the proposal was the absolute highlight of the trip so far since one of their first ‘dates’ was a day at Tomorrowland together, and it’s where their love really sparked. But Mathieu and Elien aren’t the only ones madly in love on this journey. Festival fanatic Yamin from Puerto Rico got the surprise of her life when boyfriend Cortes got down on one knee underneath the Eiffel Tower and proposed to his energetic wife-to-be. “Secretly I was kind of expecting him to propose to me, I mean if not now, when was he going to do it?” Yamin says. “Especially because Tomorrowland is one of the first things we talked about when we met, and it has been a dream of us both to be part of this amazing festival for a long time. Covertly I want to persuade Adam Beyer to play at our wedding. That would be so cool!” Naturally, the proposal was the absolute highlight of the trip so far, but the overall atmosphere in the group of travelers is another awesome aspect of the trip. “Now we have so many more friends to invite to our wedding!” says Cortes. Two people that will definitely endorse Cortes’ statement about the amazing bond among the discoverers are brother and sister Christina and Diego. “I lost my suitcase early on, which was obviously a bummer,” says Christina. “But I immediately got help from the rest from the group, offering me clothes and helping us out with other stuff we lost. So in the end, I’m almost glad I lost my suitcase, because it showed us what a wonderful group of people this is.” The two were born on the small island of Aruba, and grew up fantasizing about Tomorrowland. “Everyone at Aruba talks about Tomorrowland, and it’s unbelievable that we’re experiencing this right now.

The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.
At the beginning of the trip we had expectations, but every time we arrived at a new place, we were blown away by what was waiting for us. Even on the last flight from Ibiza to Tomorrowland we got a surprise. The captain asked us to close the blinds, and we had a live DJ set on board! It’s these things that make Tomorrowland so special. This will probably be no different when we finally arrive at Tomorrowland, so we are not expecting anything anymore. But it would be really great if we could see Yellow Claw, Lost Frequencies, and Green Velvet, because first and foremost we are music lovers.”
We’ve been watching videos on YouTube for five years... When the gates of the festival open, two of the most eager visitors to enter the maze of madness are fellow music devotees Sebastian and Natalie. For this American couple, it’s their first time in Europe and they are loving every second of it. “We’ve been watching videos on YouTube for five years and already wanted to come last year, but we couldn’t get tickets. That’s why we are taking the full Discover Europe experience now. Amsterdam and Paris were wonderful, but Ibiza was absolutely amazing. The combination of the music, the people and the beaches is unrivalled by any place we’ve ever been.” So far the trip has been one big party, and the main event is still to come! But Sebastian and Natalie aren’t afraid they’ll be too tired to party once they finally arrive on at the long longed-for festival grounds. “We never really get tired when we’re at a festival, and definitely won’t get tired at Tomorrowland. The music and the energy from the people around you keeps you going. Remember, this is what we live for!”
A BELGIAN
CELEBRATION To celebrate everyone’s safe arrival in Belgium, Tomorrowland showed Brussels what a day in the world of Tomorrow looks like. On Thursday, after a day of typically Belgian sightseeing, a Belgian pre-party was thrown on the Grote Markt in Brussels, and a massive crowd gathered. It was a great sight to see a typical Tomorrowland crowd go wild with the same energy in the middle of Belgium’s capital! All the attendees got the opportunity to take a group picture and print it on a postcard, so that they can share this moment with a special someone that’s waiting for them to return home.

For those who thought that shower after a festival day couldn’t get any better: you were wrong. Showering at Tomorrowland feels like standing in the middle of a field full of flowers after a sunny day, with refreshing raindrops falling on your head.
DON’T WASTE
YOUR EARS!
Maybe you’ve heard of it, maybe you’ve even heard it at some point: tinnitus, that ‘ringing’ in your ears. Exposure to loud music for prolonged periods of time can cause serious hearing damage, with tinnitus – possibly permanent – as a result. This is why Belgian campaign ‘Amai ‘t Piept’ was begun: to warn festivalgoers against the dangers of loud sound, and to have them use protection for their hearing. If you don’t have hearing protection yet, there are several types available at the Fashion stores and dedicated earplugs shop. Remember, to enjoy the magic of music forever, you need to be careful with those ears!
A HEALTHY START Festivals can be tough sometimes, so a good start is very important to make it through the weekend. To help you with this, Alpro has joined Tomorrowland again to serve you fresh breakfast bowls, smoothies and good coffee! Perfect for those who prefer a healthy breakfast, made of plant-based alternatives to yogurt, made complete with granola and other toppings.
THE CASHLESS WAY TO PAY
By now, it’s nothing new anymore: Pearls, the cashless currency of Tomorrowland. With this system, the only thing you need to pay for anything you want is your bracelet. Go to one of the Top Up points to fill it up with Pearls. Once your bracelet’s topped up, you only need to tap it to the counter to close the deal on those delicious drinks (and remember to do so twice – once to order and once to pay)! Should you have leftover Pearls after the weekend, refunds are possible. At tomorrowland.com/refunds, you can find all the information you need.
This year’s new recipe is based on a plant-based alternative for quark with mixed nuts. The stand is decorated with a fairytale-like tree, seats for a relaxing start of the day and a fast lane with quick service for coffee and Alpro GO ON. Professional barista Merijn Gijsbers will make sure you get a decent cup of coffee with your breakfast, so there’s no excuse not to grab that wake-up call. The stand is located at the Marketplace on DreamVille – right on your way to the festival grounds.

The glaring sun is reflected in the glasses on the faces of the fresh arrivals. After dragging heavy backpacks, bright tents and over-packed suitcases to their preferred spot, relieved visitors construct their camps in mere minutes. DreamVille is soon coloured by an infinite variety of flags, representing the international vibe Tomorrowland is renowned for. A joyful spirit can be sensed in random encounters. A girl with flower-braided hair, struggling with her sleeping mat, is helped out by a friendly neighbor, while a group of new pals start a game of beer pong. But although all party people pass the time in their own way, everyone is preparing for the big opening at the Gathering tonight, ready to take a sip of the Elixir of Life and dive into another world!

Where do they come from? What drives and inspires them? In any case, the statuettes of Art for Thought (AFt) have been a colourful addition to the grounds for years. Here, the region’s children, who often do not have the fortune to enjoy proper education, are taught artistic and creative abilities that will serve them both personally and professionally throughout their lives. And the flags? All profits from those go directly to the Love Tomorrow foundation, so that it can support this project as well as others in the future. YOU’LL NEVER FORGET YOUR FIRST... Once a year, the woods around De Schorre in Boom become inhabited by no less than 30,000 DreamVille campers from over 75 different countries. But what could possibly bring these dance-hungry Homines sapientes to this idyllic little town in Belgium, you ask? The conducive force behind this massive congregation of men and women is an unprecedented fairytale festival based around the ever-so-blossoming electronic music and dance culture - you all know it as Tomorrowland. Yet over the years, The Gathering on DreamVille became almost as legendary as the festival itself! Never call The Gathering ‘just a pre-party’, for yesterday you all proved once again that that’s way too little credit for an event that is so magnificent in every possible way. The Gathering is the ying to Tomorrowland’s yang, the mayonnaise to its fries, the Mike to its Dimitri.
GATHERING After laying down your bags, finishing tent preparations and inflating mattresses and plastic swimming pools, the party was a go. DreamVille proved to be a self-fulfilling prophecy as all you happy campers were lured deeper into a dream world, deeper into Alice’s Wonderland, drawn to the very heart of the canvas city: The Gathering. Local bigshots like Prinz and Double Pleasure lead you towards the sunset; roaring names like Jetfire and Romeo Blanco kicked off the night and warmed up the stage for those two long-awaited surprise acts. Afrojack smashed you right out of your flip-flops, but it was none other than Tiësto that came raging over the site, guns a-blazing and armed with two massive beer trucks, only to leave your little heads still spinning on your necks hours after the last note of his set had faded away. If the pre-party was this epic, we bet you can't wait to experience Tomorrowland in all of its glory.

MAGICAL FRIDAY
Sometimes, you almost forget to eat at Tomorrowland. There’s just too much fun stuff distracting you from your basic needs! But it would be a shame if you missed the foodtruck area straight across from the Gathering stage. These colourful restaurants on wheels all have their own specialty. Tomorrowland Today took a tour around this peaceful area to see (and taste!) its treats.
The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.
Directly to the right of the entrance is the one foodtruck that’s impossible to miss. The nine meter-long barbecue isTheaclock truly impressive sight. The is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. bearded ‘tough guys’ handling this monster claim this Today is a that gift. That's why good it is calledidea the present. is the result of a bad night of drinking, and they seem to be telling the truth. Something else they are definitely not joking about is their food. They serve delicious hamburgers, pulled pork and chicken skewer. Their neighbours across the field have three things in common with the owners of the biggest barbecue you’ll ever see, and it’s not the beards. Firstly, all the employees are really good friends, and secondly they serve wonderful food. It’s almost as joyful to watch the staff of Wood Pizza make you a fresh wood oven pizza as it is to eat one. Oh, the third thing these guys have in common with the barbecue brothers? They are burning up from the heat coming out of the pizza oven, which can become as hot as 350 degrees Celsius. The extremely friendly staff at the Vietnamese Oishii stand will welcome you with open arms, and it’s impossible to walk away from them and their traditional Vietnamese street food with an empty stomach. Their fresh spring rolls and vegetables are a bliss on a hot and sunny day, and if you close your eyes you can easily imagine yourself eating at a lovely little street cart in Ho Chi Minh City. But they are not the only ones selling street food; the next-door (or should we say, next-truck) La Boucherie has everything you need for a quick bite, too. Try their lamb pita or the luscious Italian burger. If you’re more into fish, check out the delightful truck La Boucherie shares their cozy corner on the left of the field with: Les Filles du Bord de Mer. French-speaking readers will already know, but just to be clear for everyone else: they sell seafood. Treat yourself to some fish tapas, or to their homemade shrimp croquette. Most notably, their oysters are a big hit when people return to DreamVille after a day of partying. It’s not a surprise that this aphrodisiac is being eaten just before bedtime...
It’s no surprise either that the Java Coffee car is most crowded when those same individuals emerge from their tents and are trying to wake up. A large variety of coffees is available, and the skillful barista’s will even write ‘TML’ in your coffee cream if you ask them nicely. How Instagram-worthy is that!? With that world-class coffee for breakfast, you would definitely enjoy a world-class croque monsieur from L’Herbe. Owner of these two(!) trucks is Bart de Pooter, the Gault&Millau Chef of the Year 2012, whose restaurant has been awarded two Michelin stars. His chefs cook up exquisite soups and pulled pork/beef burgers. The last stop left in this gastronomical spectacle is the bright pink eye catcher in the left corner. Brandt & Levie serves hotdogs, made from pigs. But not just any pigs. These animals are nurtured, well fed, and given the chance to live a little before they turn into amazing hotdogs! There is no need to feel guilty for eating one of these luscious sandwiches. And don’t forget to ask for a napkin, because the staff is not thrifty with sauce.

Straight off a plane from India, Belgium Tej (half Indian, half Canadian) took a Global Journey flight to Tomorrowland. He came alone, THE-REPORTERS Witness because his friends kept postponing. “Another year, another year… MAGICAL FRIDAY I couldn’t wait any longer, I needed to come now!” Even though he’s only been here for a couple of hours, he’s already made new The clock is running. “We’re not together!” is the first thing Cyrill (33) and Jana (36) tell us when we approach. “I’m actually his brother’s girlfriend, he’s just my personal body guard,” Jana jokes. They have two more friends from Switzerland joining them later, but the boyfriend isn’t one of them. “He doesn’t like big crowds.” It’s their first time here, and so far, they’ve already fallen in love with their Dream Lodge. “It has real beds; so comfortable! But we’re too excited about the festival to spend too much time in them. We can’t wait to see the mainstage!”
Rose (23) likes everything as bright as possible. And she loves festivals too, as she’s doing them back-to-back this summer. “I predict a lot of caffeine to keep me going.” Normally, she works a desk job in London, but now she and her colleague are here instead. Rose is especially looking forward to meeting Dutch guys. “I serial-date them,” she confides. “We play this game called ‘Spot the Dutch’. Their tall frame, broad shoulders and good sense of humour gives it away. But I’m not telling you more, because I don’t want that in print!”

SCENTS OF DE SCHORRE You have entered the Holy Grounds of Tomorrowland, where all your senses Belgium awaken. Throughout the year, however, this place is known as De Schorre, THE-REPORTERS Witness a green oasis between Antwerp and Brussels that offers a tranquil space for MAGICAL FRIDAY plants and flowers to grow. Their fragrances have the power to bring back memories of times foregone, but can The clockthey is running. Make also the most oftransport today. Time waits foryou no man.to the future. In Yesterday a is history. is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why the it is called the present. the coming days, you have newTomorrow world to explore, and blooming lands of Boom present the perfect pastures to create your own Elixir of Life. Here are some of the ingredients that you may find. The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.
The essences of fragrances can be found in nature, and many plants carry the traces of history. A journey through time commences when you tune in to the flora around you. Take, for example, the willow trees lining the waters of De Schorre. In swampy soil, mushrooms ripen amidst the willows. The weeping willow is the recluse of the forest: a loyal companion to dampen anyone’s sadness. When mushrooms ripen in the willow’s forlorn presence, they each release a particular gas, and when these gases meet, they combust. Little fairylike lights emerge in the process. It was once believed that these mysterious lights, deep in the forest, were the spirits of lost children.
Now that you’ve found the willow, an ingredient to enhance magic and smother sorrow, it is time to add love to your magic potion. Well-known to symbolise love is the rose (3), but the rosebay willowherb carries a saga of its own. Once upon a time, a fairy was born in a rose garden and a gnome was born in a forest of willows. The two fell in love upon meeting, but the fairy’s mother opposed, because fairies are not supposed to marry gnomes. Love knows no boundaries, however, and together fairy and gnome turned into a flower, its magenta petals her wings and the reddish pistils the gnome’s hat.
6
Buddleia davidii: commonly known as the ‘butterfly bush’, its flowers’ indigo colour attracts butterflies. Butterflies symbolise the freedom to fly beyond the boundaries of the here and now. They are also responsible for the fluttery feeling in your tummy when your spirits are high and your heart is full.
7
Phalaenopsis orchidaea: the orchid’s scent is said to enhance arousal, and is often used in perfumes. It is said, and has been pictured in the movies, that the touch of an orchid can, under the right circumstances, bring about what the French call ‘la petite mort. ‘
8
Cirsium palustre: the thistle stands for strength and alertness. Upon embarking from the Scottish shore after their invasion there, the Normen took off their shoes so as to not alarm the sleeping Scotsmen. They did not, however, realise the land was scattered with thistles. Barefoot, a Norman stepped on the thistles and shrieked in pain, waking the Scotsmen.
To create the ultimate perfume, we need to follow our senses deeper into the unknown lands. The velvety purple chocolate cosmos flower (1) has a sweet vanilla and chocolate scent. Combine this with watermint, which can be found along the creeks, its little lilac flowers livening up the overwhelmingly green banks. Why does it smell so fresh, you ask? According to Greek mythology, Minthe was a water nymph who fell in love with the Greek god Hades, the God of the underworld. His wife was not impressed with the added admiration for her husband, and turned poor Minthe into a mint plant. Her invigorating presence is encapsulated in the plant’s refreshing qualities. Add rosemary to your mint and cosmos mixture, and the energising element of your elixir is complete.
23
Now close your eyes and let the mesmerising scents of your bottled Garden of Eden guide you to the future. What is the abundance you crave most in life? A base of magic, hints of love and energy, and a deeper layer of companionship have already been mixed into your life’s concoction. Do you long for more passion (7)? Do you desire freedom (6) instead? Or do you want to boost your health (2)? All these stimulating ingredients can be found in nature’s Paradise, the lands of De Schorre that you are chosen to traverse. We could not have written this without the boundless knowledge of Jan, our forest expert from the Schorre. Thank you for sharing your stories!

In a tranquil oasis right next to the festival grounds, two girls are chatting with each other on their lounge chairs. Luckily for them, they don’t need to break a sweat to their tent: everything has been done for them already. They are settled in the EasyTents Area, an exclusive Lotto (Belgium’s national lottery)-sponsored experience. And though nobody here seems overworked, more relaxation is right at hand. What about a Jacuzzi and a sauna to dive into! The tickets that got these two specimens inside were won by the father of one of the girls. Both young ladies are extremely grateful for the chance to change into their bikinis and to jump into the hot tub, which for this rather hot day is filled with cold water instead. MAU5TRAP VS. PRYDA
Once again British DJ and producer Jamie Jones brings his world-renowned event series Paradise to Tomorrowland. Jones is widely regarded as the leader of the new sound of house and is often applauded for his pioneering role in making house music shift and mutate towards a cross-genre beast that thrives on the rhythm of the heartbeat. In less than a decade he has catapulted himself to stardom with his playful little ways of producing, breaking out of the confines of minimal techno. Paradise is one of Ibiza’s finest party concepts and has proven to be just as effective on the Tomorrowland grounds. This year Jamie Jones invites his faithful colleagues Richy Ahmed and Patrick Topping, alongside the notorious Bronx-born garage bad bros The Martinez Brothers ans Minus soldier Matador, who will be performing live. Let this wild bunch of house trailblazers lead you into Paradise!
Call ‘em the X-Men of dance music, or The Avengers of house, if you will, because it’s more than fair to say that Laidback Luke’s Super You&Me parties make every villain poop their pants. Luke calls on all crime fighters, shape-shifters and teleporters to join forces for his great cause. His plea is all about saving civilization from mediocrity through music and pioneering ‘YOUnique’ merrymaking mayhem around the globe. Super You&Me is known for its quality line-ups, and quality is exactly what you can expect right here! From his Super You&Me Ibiza residency at Amnesia to events at Pacha in New York, Luke is relentlessly keeping it fresh ‘n’ free-flowing. All performing DJs hoist themselves in a taut set of colourful superhero tights, combining their superpowers into one big wall of music that washes away all that is evil. At Tomorrowland, Dyro, Blasterjaxx, Sander van Doorn, Timmy Trumpet, Matisse & Sadko, and more are ready to save the day!
Wow, a stage hosted by Swedish master Eric Prydz (Pryda) as well as Canadian hot shot deadmau5! What started in 2014 at HARD Day of the Dead Festival has gone on to be one of dance music’s most anticipated label collabs, even if it wasn’t the spectacle that the artists originally intended. The two biggest labels, the leading legends in progressive house will be joining forces to curate this very special mau5trap vs. Pryda stage. They’ll provide the audience with a show together and give the floor to several artists of their revered labels. The platform will also feature newly married techno couple Adam Beyer and Ida Engberg spinning together, followed by the likes of mau5trap favorites ATTLAS and Rez, trance legend Sasha, and appearances from Pig&Dan and Gregor Tresher. This will surely be one for the books.

MIKE WILLIAMS FOCUS ON MAGICAL FRIDAY
MAZDA SOUND OF TOMORROW ISLAND | 19h00 – 20h30
From zero to protégé of Tiësto’s in half a year: that’s Mike Williams, one of the new prodigies of house music. Before going up on stage today, he told us all about himself and what he does. Mike, welcome to Tomorrowland! We heard you’ve never been here before. What do you expect? “Well, it’s my first time ever at Tomorrowland, I only know it from the videos that are out there. They look amazing every year; I think it’s amazing to have something so special, so close to home. What I hear from other DJ’s is that it’s a madhouse, haha! The amount of nationalities that comes together here is so cool. It’s what makes Tomorrowland special and turns it into one of the most unique events there are.” Are you planning on visiting other DJs’ sets, or touring the festival like a visitor for a little? “Of course I’d like to check out Tiësto’s show. Besides that, I have a very tight schedule, so there’s not a lot of time to walk around. But I’m definitely gonna check the festival out and see how some areas have been decorated – because that’s something I’ve also heard a lot about. I’m looking forward to finally seeing this magical place for real!” Speaking of which… You started producing at a very young age. Have you visited many events as a regular visitor, instead of as a performer? “Actually, none at all. I’m not a real festivalgoer, at first because I was too young, but after I reached a legal age, I was still much more into making music than into joining my friends at festivals. But now I’ve played quite some events already, and it feels amazing! So if I get some time off, you’ll definitely find me on the festival grounds.” At what age did you start producing, though, and how did you learn? “I was 14 years old when I started making music. At the same time I also started DJ’ing, but producing felt more natural because I already knew how to play the piano. And
I knew it was important for a DJ to make his own music, so really wanted to evolve with this and keep on making better tracks every day.” How exactly did you then get picked up by Spinnin’ and Tiësto? “Spinnin’ contacted me after hearing my remixes. Then I started working on my own sound even more, and sent over ‘Sweet & Sour’. It was exciting, as it was the first time I sent a track of mine to such a big label. But they loved it and so did Tiësto, who signed it for his label. From then on, the rollercoaster started.” And how did the collab with Tiësto come about – did he ask you? What was it like to work in the studio with Tiësto? Did he teach you much? “We met at ADE last year, and since then we’ve stayed in touch. For ‘I Want You’, our collab single that comes out on August 5th, we emailed back and forth until we came to a final version that completely represented the original idea. It was a very helpful session; during the weeks in which we were emailing each other with new updates, I could see the track progress and get better every time. This taught me not to give up, which I tended to do sometimes before that. Tiësto taught me that you should always keep going when you feel something is good. I sure am happy with a mentor like Tiësto!” Of course he hoisted you up on stage at Ultra, too. When you learned that that was going to happen, how did you feel? And what was it like when you were up there? “At first, I didn’t believe it. After that it felt like a dream come true. I didn’t have any idea what it would be like to be standing there, and it all went so quickly, it was simply
29
unreal! All those people shouting, partying to your music, that’s something you never get used to.” What are your dreams now, what goals are you working towards? “The most important thing is to keep on making music. Hopefully I’ll deliver some classics on the way, haha! And another wish is to host an event of my own, perhaps on Ibiza. But to have my own area at Tomorrowland one day would also be amazing. This way I could present my own sound even more, together with the artists I like.” Right now, though, not everyone at TML will be familiar with your sound yet. What does a typical Mike Williams DJ set sound like? What do you play, how do you prepare? “I’m all about energy. So I’ll always be playing quick, cutting fast, presenting lots of different sounds, so the audience will have heard a lot of stuff by the end of the hour. When it comes to preparing this, I just bring a lot of tracks on my USB sticks, try not to prepare too much, and simply let the people guide me.” A humble perspective on DJ’ing! Tell us, why should everyone come and guide you this Friday? “Well, the energy I mentioned before, it’s not only in my music, but also in my stage presence, so we’ll be sure to have a party. And besides that - I always combine the newest tracks with some familiar work, which makes it exciting for everybody!”

Most of Tomorrowland’s stages are hosted by MCs. The abbreviation stands for mic controller or, more appropriately, master of ceremonies. These are the ones who announce the artists, get the crowds going, and make sure everything on the stage and the dancefloor rolls along smoothly. Some of them were kind enough to write us a column, asking each other questions in turn. Today, we kick off with Super You&Me’s MC Haits.
The Martinez Brothers, born and bred in The Bronx, have held a firm grip on the underground techno and house scene ever since their big breakthrough in the early ‘10s. Their discovery and mentoring by Dennis Ferrer at a young age and a longstanding series of international residencies (from NY to Ibiza) have given this versatile duo the international platform their talent fits so well. In the past couple of years, they’ve been playing the biggest festivals in the world without ever losing sight of their primary objective: making good music while having a very good time. Because that’s simply what the Martinez Brothers are all about: sharing joy through music. It’s the very same ethos that their father has been teaching them since their childhood. If you’re in need of an eclectic range of good vibes, make sure to witness the set of the ubiquitously popular Martinez Brothers tonight.
Hi Tomorrowlanders, Today is the day I’ve looked forward to for many weeks, just like you! Today we unite, forget all that is going on in the world, we become one! No matter what you look like or where you are from, we dance, we laugh, we smile... I will wake up in Italy today and leave my holiday to follow my dream. Why? Because I know I will see people from all over the world dance and enjoy all that we as artists will give: our utmost best. I had a dream, followed that dream and I live my dream today hosting the Super You&Me stage. So today I will host the Super You&Me stage. Laidback Luke and his team created something unique with this concept. Artists dressed as super heroes, how cool is that? So I will wake up this morning and will surprise you with one of my favorite super heroes. Will it be Kick-Ass, Deadpool or something different? All of them crossed my mind, but I think I found the perfect suit for me. Come check it out! And thank you to Laidback Luke and the Super You&Me team for having me. We will blow your mind with our superpowers, especially with my friends Sander van Doorn and Tujamo, with whom I rock a lot of European shows. Tomorrow I’ll host the set of Lucas & Steve as well, these guys are skyrocketing and I’m very proud to work with them often. Now let’s make this one something to go down in your book of life. Keep on dreaming, and let’s rave. See ya at SYM! To MC Villian: What is your best Tomorrowland memory after so many years? Much respect my man!
ALESSO
R3HAB
Mainstage | 00h00 - 01h00
V Sessions | 22h30 - 00h00
Swedish superstar DJ and producer Alesso will be in charge of the closing set of the main stage on the first day of Tomorrowland 2016. His rise seems unstoppable and his highly impressive track record includes collaborations with artists such as David Guetta, Sebastian Ingrosso, Calvin Harris and Usher. The Grammy-nominated artist saw his career take off five years ago, at the age of 18. Alesso had started producing remixes and remakes of fellow artists’ songs from the comfort of his own bedroom. What followed was a discovery by Swedish House Mafia’s Sebastian Ingrosso, who quickly became the young Alesso’s mentor. Soon afer, MTV named him ‘EDM Artist to Watch’. His highly-anticipated fourth album has established Alesso’s name in the music scene as a serious force to be reckoned with. Needless to say, this is the closing act you do not want to miss out on!
After working on ‘Mrkrstft’ and ‘Blue Magic’ for Hardwell, and working with Afrojack on ‘Aces High (Prutata)’ in 2011, R3hab has been conquering a strong and solid hold on the global dace scene. His drive to explore new musical territories is undeniable and his career spans from producing remixes for artists such as Jennifer Lopez and Madonna to collaborations with Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki, and R&B superstar Ciara. R3hab, whose collaborations and shows have taken him all over the globe in the last decade, has developed himself into an artist who perfectly knows which music to bring to what dance floor - whether you’re experiencing him live, through his radio show or online. Ready to release all of your energy during a set full of electro, progressive, trap and big-room influences? 22:30 at the V Sessions stage is the only way to go!
