people of tomorrow,

ONE MORE DAY OF BLISS AWAITS! It’s nigh unbelievable, but it seems you did it. You’ve mastered every trick in the books and became performers yourselves. You came to Boom to witness a show unlike anything else in the world, but as it turns out, the weekend could not have gone through without you. The dancers, the deejays, the four leading figures of the Amicorum circus; all of these merely served to show you the way. You picked things up quickly and began to perform your own act. Yours is a display of love and unity, a parade of happiness and joy; the

perfect counterpoint to the assault on the senses formed by the Amicorum Spectaculum. And to think we are only two thirds into the journey… Today, one more day of bliss awaits. You’ll continue your dazzling, frolicking journey into the lands of Tomorrow, and leave all the world inspired by the way you came together. Off you are now, off to revel in the beauty of the Holy Grounds and to join the Amicorum family of artists.belgium Off you are – after this weekend, you’ll be part of the People of Tomorrow forever.

Figurine Friends, Are you tired yet? Are you seeing double yet? Good, good! Because the real show is going to begin right now. Triboulet’s bag of tricks is full, his hands are on the

Little lambs of Harmony, delightful dancing dollies, it seems to Triboulet that you have mastered the terrain. By now you know every nook and cranny, every hidey-hole for naughty critters. And my friends have taught you more. Ekatarina instructed you at dancing, Raya told your future, Ernesto made music with you. You know all the funny customs of Tomorrow now. And you know the way the diddlydeejays play their tunes. So let’s take all of that and turn it inside out, shall we? Let’s turn into puppet players that make life jump at the flick of a finger.

strings; all that’s left is you, little friends. Time to get crazy.

Triboulet wants you to claim Tomorrow as your own today, funny friends. Laugh – ha-ha-ha – in the face of your hangover! Skip and bumble – tat-tat-tat – from your tent into the showers! Now, you’re Triboulet’s fresh friends, and you can dance – hop-hop-hop – your way onto the Mainstage. Having fun? Feeling good? Then talk! Bla-bla-bla, grab a stranger by the shoulder, tell them stories and a joke. Mayhap you’ll be rewarded with a kiss, and if not, strut away towards the next stage. At every turn you’ll find some wonder, a person to play with or a creature to see. Attach your strings everywhere, and take them to hand! It’s the last chance you’ll get before Tomorrowland’s end. Make the festival yours, my friends!

Capriciously yours,

EARLY BITES

DREAMVILLE IS HAVING BREAKFAST When the first rays of sun shine through the branches of the DreamVille trees, its inhabitants slowly ascend out of their temporary homes. Like a butterfly spreading her wings for the first time, we see the People of Tomorrow stretch out towards the sky and breathe in the morning air. As the sun rises higher into the sky, music starts to play. We see a girl joyfully start her first dance passes of the day. Suddenly, a breeze of air carries the most delicious scents over the camping area. We venture deep into DreamVille to discover the source of these scents, and have a look around to see what the campers are having for breakfast. Markus from Offenborg, Germany is wielding a special drinking device at his camp. “We call this The Motivator, because even if you don’t want to drink, it will motivate you to continue. In mornings like this, when you really need to be motivated, we throw in half a litre at a time!’’

CAMP 2 CAMP amicorum spectaculum We find Dominic from Munich with a Tomorrowland Today in one hand and an enormous can of beer in the other. “This is an infamous Danish beer, available at every petrol station in Germany. You get 1 litre of 10% alcohol; my perfect breakfast!”

4

With your stay at Dreamville coming to an end, please think about the value of the items you brought with you. Bring your tents and camping gear back home, and leave the site the same way it was when you arrived. Mother Nature and Love Tomorrow will thank you a million times for it. If, for some belgium reason, you are unable to take your gear back home, don’t forget to leave it at the Re-use Drop Off Points. That way, it won’t get wasted. There’s a Drop Off Point at every District House!

Jarrid, Yannick, Niels, and Yoni are a group of Belgian friends, touring no less than 12 festivals this summer. They proudly show us their Blokhut Rave (‘log cabin rave’) sign, a souvenir from one of the other festivals. Last night they put it out and had a great afterparty, singing along to ‘All I Need For Christmas’ until late.

Lying back in his chair with his sunglasses on, we find Cars from Holland gulping down a shaker filled with an unidentifiable beverage. “This is a protein shake with Brinta oats and hazelnut powder. I drink this stuff throughout the day, because it’s easy and nutritious. That’s why I packed a load for these early mornings!”

STUMBLING & BUMBLING Saturday morning had a surprise in store as we bumped into the second biggest inflatable castle of the world, spread out on the wooden floor in front of the Gathering Stage as a gift from Tomorrowland to its visitors. The inner child of the festivalgoers was unleashed, and suddenly People of Tomorrow jumped, fell and flipped all over the 272-meter-long obstacle course, built up from 32 different parts. Running along the course we find people bumping into plastic rugby balls, sliding down mountains, and jumping through holes. At the end of the course, as a final challenge, an ominously dressed Viking tackles the visitors who’ve managed to managed to stay standing until now. Laughing and out of breath at the same time, people fall over the finish line. “I feel so full of energy now! Although I’m exhausted at the same time. It was way more difficult than I thought but super fun too,” says Macerana from Chili after finishing the ordeal. “The most insane thing I’ve seen today is someone front flipping off the final hill,” Ann, one of the organisers, tells us. Waving her finish flag to and fro, she goes on: “It’s beautiful to see these people enjoy themselves so youthfully. Everyone does that on Tomorrowland!”

“This is the breakfast of champions,” Bryce from Perth tells us, while he proudly shows us a bag of Sweet Chili Doritos, lying amicorum spectaculum lazily in his tent. “Combined with a jug of orange juice and a sip of Vodka this will get me ready for the day!”

In the middle of a field of grass we find Emily from England lying peacefully next to the most bizarre breakfast we’vebelgium seen so far: a slice of pizza and an ice cream. “This is my Tomorrowland special! But it isn’t really helping me wake up. Maybe I’ll try a waffle later on,’’ she says with a magical smile.

Next to the barbecues a couple of Dutchmen are baking fresh eggs. Sebastian tells us, “This is typically Dutch, saving money and eating together around the table. We brought 80 eggs and 100 sausages which we have to finish before the end of the festival!” Well, at the rate you’re going, we’re sure you will succeed, Sebastian!

We find a group of Japanese barbecue boys grilling an early meal together. “We had a great night of sleep, but it was a little cold. So today we warmed up with a hot meal together. Do you want one? We share our dishes with everyone!” Well, that’s the Tomorrowland spirit, Yasuhiro!

SUNDAY SCHEDULE This is the schedule for the DreamVille gym. A training lasts 45 min. with a break of 15 min.

Yasmin moves graciously around the campsite. “I’m a pole dancer, I run and I do athletics. I’m also a physiotherapist and I run marathons. Sporting calms me down and keeps me healthy. It’s what keeps me going during festivals like this. Training your triceps makes amicorum spectaculum you able to keep your hands up for hours in front of the Mainstage!”

HERE’S TO YOU! Merideth Campbell (25), USA: “Here’s to my two best friends, Austin and Shauna. They passed away years ago, otherwise they’d be here right now. So I’m celebrating on their behalf as well.”

Francis Paulussen (49), Belgium: “Cheers to my beautiful wife, my saving grace!’

The word ‘cheers’ means to wish each other well and has become a universal sign of celebration over the centuries. And what better drink to toast with than a cold beer? The other’s well-being and happiness are at stake, after all. In the ideal scenario, that little canister of joy doesn’t just taste good, but looks amazing as well. Luckily, the ideal scenario is becoming a reality this weekend. So let’s raise that unique Tomorrowland Jupiler bottle up high and say cheers to whatever is precious to you! Christina Morgner (25), Germany: “Cheers? ‘Prost’, you mean! Prost to my great hometown, prost to you, to me and to Tomorrowland!”

Diego Reis (29), Brazil: “Back home we say ‘pleu!’. It means to have good vibes, an amazing time.”

Calum Gillies (24), Scotland: Calum allowed just enough time for us to take a picture before focusing once again on his companion. Go get her, tiger.

HEALTHY BREAKFAST On the borderline between DreamVille and the festival grounds you can find one of the most popular breakfast stands of all Tomorrowland. In between wooden benches, tall plants and white cloth, Alpro has built their food oasis. Inside, you’ll be served some delicious pancakes, a bowl of granola, pancakes with bananas, a Coconut Cappuchino and a Magic Smoothie. Tim the cook, busily flipping pancakes, tells us that all dishes include an Alpro product. These are alternatives to dairy in different forms and tastes. "For people who are vegan or lactose-intolerant, this is a safe option for a nutritious breakfast – but most of our visitors just come here for the amazing taste!”

TODAY’S NEWS BOYS

Who are those true heroes of the festival, cycling around the site on their cargo bike, keeping the whole festival well-informed and entertained? Of course we’re talking about our own News Boys! Whenever you’re in need of a Tomorrowland Today, these young men will come racing towards you and hand you one of the freshest prints. This is not an easy task, Jef, Branco and Mathias explain: “We have to endure the weather and the risk paper cuts for hours on end. But it’s totally worth it. So far we only got positive reactions, the people love the newspaper! Sometimes people hop onto our bicycle or start helping us spontaneously. And yesterday, we got offered 20 beers to take two belgium guys to the festival area on our bikes. But we will not be temped, we’ve got one task and one task only: to distribute the Tomorrowland Today!”

While we’re feasting on the fresh ingredients of this royal breakfast, we meet a group of famous Belgian Instagrammers invited by Alpro. Annabel, whose channel @annabelpetant has over a hundred thousand followers, tells us “it’s healthy, delicious and affordable. On a amicorum festival like spectaculum this it’s important to eat something healthy too!’’ She takes a photo of her breakfast, which she shares with her followers while we leave the Alpro stand stuffed and satisfied.

visions of visions of tomorrow tomorrow

An indispensable part of any circus is the fortune teller. The Amicorum Spectaculum has its own Raya, but do the People of Tomorrow themselves possess supernatural powers, too? Can they look into the future of their closest friends?

mc Stretch & Henri pfr “You did it! Oh man, this guy is talented, only 21 years old when he plays Mainstage as one of the youngest artists on Tomorrowland. Actually, one of the youngest artists was just performing with one of the oldest ones, me,” Stretch says while waiting for the crystal ball to tell him what to do. “Oh wait, I think I feel something here. After today’s performance, the only way for Henri is up. It’s a tough path to take and a hard life to live if you constantly need to stay original. I feel that if Henri keeps his feet on the ground and stays with the Tomorrowland family, we will witness the birth of a real amicorum spectaculum legend once again. The only way for Henri is up, and I hope that he makes it all the way there. He even has hair, look at him!”

“There it comes now,” Henri expectantly says as the crystal starts to glow. “I feel something! I feel that your hair will grow back soon, Stretch. No, ha-ha, just kidding. MC Stretch has always been a great master of ceremonies. In fact, the ball is telling me to tell you that he’s of my personal heroes and a solid MC. The message I’m getting is that MC Stretch will remain being awesome for a lot of years from now on. The scene needs a figure like Stretch to keep the order; to fill in the gaps a DJ might leave and guide the crowd through the night. The all-controlling power of wisdom confirms the belgium fact that he’s an awesome MC, the scene needs a man like Martin.”

Amin: “I see a stormy future ahead for you, darling. Somewhere in the near future you’ll be known and feared as the best pirate of all the seven seas. People will shiver when they hear your name: ‘Jane Sparrow’.”

Axelle: “Dear Amin, for you I see that there only is one path you can take. You’ve impressed the director of the Amicorum Spectaculum so much with your charades and your jokes, that he has decided to give you a fulltime job at his circus! It is your life goal to entertain, and make everyone as happy as the best clown there ever was. And your stage name shall be… ‘Amin van Buuren’!”

Axelle & Amin, Canada Jalil: “Megan, what I see in this mysterious ball is nothing but brightness and joy. It all starts right now, here at Tomorrowland, where you’ll have a surprise meet & greet with your idol Armin van Buuren. After that meeting you’ll float for weeks and continue to live a happy and prosperous life. You’ll have no regrets.”

Megan: “Quite honestly, Jalil, I’m shocked with what I see in this magic ball. It doesn’t say anything about your life, nor about your deepest thoughts and wishes, and it says nothing about me! I only see you cuddling with a nest full of young Corgi puppies. I’m confused.”

Jalil & Megan, Australia Florian: “After this experience we’re having here, you will start a career pretty soon. And you’ll be good at the work you do. It involves a lot of travelling, you will see some of the most beautiful parts of the planet. But every year you will come back to Tomorrowland to see your idol Martin Garrix. With me, hopefully.”

Linda: “About your future I have absolutely no doubts. Actually, I could see it way before I even looked into this ball. This is the last time you’re at Tomorrowland as a visitor. Starting next year, you’ll be a DJ here! On the Mainstage, of course.

martin garrix

Everybody loves him. He’s kind, energetic and handsome; he’d be the cute one if he was in a boyband. But all those things aside: he’s astoundingly good at what he does. And what he does is making music and playing that music live in front of thousands upon thousands of people. He’s worked with Tiësto as well as with R&B superstar Usher, he is best friends with Justin Bieber, but above all he enjoys being at home in Amsterdam, hanging out with his family, and producing tracks at his studio for nights on end. Last night he hosted and headlined his own stage at Tomorrowland and even did a second disco-themed set under the pseudonym Ytram. People of Tomorrow, it is our great honour to introduce you to the number one DJ in the world: Martin Garrix.

First of all: congratulations on your welldeserved first place in the DJ Mag Top 100! From whom did you receive the message after you’ve won? “The first message… good question. My phone nearly exploded so it’s pretty hard to tell who was first. Anyway, I did get a tremendous amount of congratulations from my family, friends and even from my colleagues. On the evening when I first heard about it, I was together with my parents, my friends and my whole team. We celebrated, of course.” One day you’re Martin Garrix and the next day you wake up as the number one DJ in the world. How did that affect you? “It feels really weird, but at the same time things haven’t changed all that much. I’m still the same guy who just enjoys making cool music and releasing it. It just really makes me happy to see people enjoy my music. And let’s be honest: it doesn’t matter that much whether you’re the #1 DJ in the world or not. In the end it’s just a list.”

might rather be caused by me having grown as an artist as opposed to having climbed up some list. I gathered more experience, and have grown as a person as well. I think I’ve learned a lot about what I want and how I want it. So yeah, there is a difference between now and then, but I think that’s a very healthy change.” You’ve been working together with some of the biggest names in today’s music. Has your recently upgraded superstar status had the effect that some of those greats offered themselves to you for a collaboration? “I work together with the artists I love and then it doesn’t matter how big or famous they are. All I want is to make a connection in the studio, because that’s the one and only crucial ingredient for the coolest of tracks. But if I had the chance to choose one artist to work with, dead or alive, it would be Pharell Williams, without a doubt. He’s the bossest of ‘em all.”

Do you feel as though either you or your career changed because of your win? “I did take a moment to reflect upon it, of course, but there has been so much going on in my career last year. Anyways, I would never put myself above, let’s say, Tiësto in a list like that. I would never see myself as being a better DJ than he is. The most important thing is that I still do what I love so much. I still work together with the same team, working hard to try and put on the best possible show and to share my music with the world.”

You’ve always been very close to your family. As a musician, what exactly did you learn from your parents? Were they a big influence on your development as an artist? “My parents were always a big influence on everything and have been super-supportive and helpful in everything I did. And they still are, without them none of this would’ve been possible. After seeing Tiësto’s set at the Olympics in 2004 the feeling got to me. At that exact point my love for electronic music was born. As a kid I started out as DJ Marty, and back then, it was my parents who helped me getting things done.”

Have things changed in the way that people look at you now compared to when you were still elsewhere in the top 10? “Yeah, there definitely is some difference, but I think that

Are they the ones that keep you on track? Because compared to some of your colleagues, regardless of age, you’ve had quite a clean record concerning excessive debauchery.

“It’s my parents, my little sister, my friends, and my team who keep me firmly planted on the ground with both feet. I’m just a really normal boy who happens to reside in a bit of crazy world now and then.” You did see a bigger and crazier part of the world compared to other people of the same age. Do you sometimes feel as though you had to miss out on a normal childhood? “It’s true that I didn’t quite have the same standard childhood every kid has and yes, maybe I did miss some very normal things. But there are so many amazing experiences to keep the balance. Nowadays I often bring my best friends with me on tour, sharing all my experiences with them, and that’s the best feeling there is.” In real life you’re more of quiet guy, whereas on the stage you’re pretty explosive, to say the least. Are those two sides your yin and yang? “I can be very explosive in real life as well though, haha! But there is a difference, yes. When going on stage I’m bursting with energy. Every time I perform I get that immense adrenaline rush – it’s hard to describe the actual feeling. And I do try to keep all of it in balance by taking a break when I need to. It’s a good thing that I have the ability to sleep anywhere at any time.” You hosted your own STMPD RCRDS Stage yesterday, what was that like for you? “We had some really great artists like Cassius, CMC$, Don Diablo, Dyro, Estaw, Justin Mylo, Steve Angello… and even some more. I was really, really happy with our line-up, it was a great mix of artists. And my own set – or should I say sets? – were overflowing with energy!”

THINGS TO DO BEFORE

TOMORROW DEAR PEOPLE OF TOMORROW, WE’D LIKE YOU TO TAKE A SECOND OF SILENCE, HAVE A LOOK AT YOURSELVES IN THE MIRROR AND ASK: HAVE I TAKEN EVERYTHING THERE IS TO TAKE OUT OF THIS WEEKEND OF MADNESS? YOU HAVEN’T, HAVE YOU? NO WORRIES, HERE’S SOME EXTRA TIPS AND TRICKS TO DRAIN EVERY LAST BIT OF MAGIC DUST OUT OF TOMORROWLAND.

GROW YOUR OWN Don’t spend too much time fumbling with razors. Just let nature do its work and let it all grow nice and slowly, like the beautiful person in the picture did. Don’t be scared to show yourself the way you truly are. Because like the great philosopher Christina Aguilera once said: you are beautiful, in every single way.

STARSHIP TO THE MILKY WAY

Some of you might be leaving on an airplane, not knowing when you’ll be back again. We know you hate to go but alas, that’s reality. If reality itself is too twisted, though, why not escape this whole real world thing for good by transcending into the twilight zone of love and happiness that is Tomorrowland? If you’re up for a little trip through the milky way, sailing to those evergreen fields in the sky, we advise you to board the Zeppelin starship that has laid anchor right above the info stand. And it’s an actual star-sailing ship, none of that Star Wars cubist modern art stuff!

FIERY FISH It speaks for itself that we wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to you. (Well, except for getting blown away and torn to pieces by an excruciating warm flood of joy in its purest form, of course.) The Tomorrowland grounds are located on the fields of the city of Boom, surrounded by forests and dotted with lakes and swamps. And while in these forests the wildlife is king of the jungle, the little lakes you’ll find on the festival grounds are swarming amicorum spectaculum with Jaws-like sharks the size of buses! In order to scare them away Tomorrowland’s fire-breathing fish guard the LEAF stage day and night. You can go warm yourself to their flaming breath in the evening hours.

amicorum spectaculum

WANG DANG DOODLE We’ve read on social media and in other newspapers that Tomorrowland is a DJ’s festival. Fake news! Sure, there’s a more than fair amount of electronic artistry displayed on the grounds of De Schorre, which may induce the impression that beats and glitches are all that is to be found here. Don’t get fooled by all these accusations, because even the jazz-cats and blues boys amongst you can easily get their backs scratched. Wave those jazzhands, tip your hats, snap your fingers and wang dang doodle with the banjos and horns of the marching band. If you can find them, that is!

CATCH A KISS If you get the chance, make sure to catch a kiss from one of Tomorrowland’s many flower girls. If you don’t need it right away, put it away safely for later use, because these kisses are like bandages for the soul. If you’re ever hurt or feeling down, just unwrap one of the flower amicorum spectaculum girls’ kisses and you’ll instantly get your mojo back.

BIRDS, BEES, AND CRICKETS Sit on the grass near the Organ of Harmony and let the birds and the bees do their work. If there’s one thing you can say about the grass near the Organ, it’s that there’s zero chance of it being greener on the other side. So set your butt down on the green, green grass of your home away from home and lay down to belgium rest for a bit. But make sure you don’t fall asleep, or you might get a little visit from the birds and the bees (and the crickets) - if you know what we mean…

STUDIO TIME

belgium Six radio stations are almost continuously making live radio from Tomorrowland. Brotherly located next to each other, they welcome all the DJs of Tomorrowland. We asked every

station how their weekend has been so far, and – in proper radio style – to announce their neighbor.

RADIO 538

WESSEL VAN DIEPEN “We’re having lots of fun here at Tomorrowland. I personally liked the interview I just did with the Nervo girls a lot. I interviewed them for an hour straight once. It’s always fun to speak to them again since I know them quite well since that time. Next up are our neighbours of Radio Contact. I haven’t met them yet but the grass is always greener on the other side, if you provide it with enough water. Let’s see how our Belgian neighbours are doing!”

STUDIO BRUSSEL

JEROEN DELODDER & BERT VANSTEENBERGHE

DANCE FM DANNY CEE, KATIE OVERY, RIMA ISKANDARANI, JOE OSDEN “It’s our first time at Tomorrowland and that just means we haven’t got enough eyes to see all the spectacular stuff that’s going on. Right the other day we had Steve Aoki in our studio at the same time as one of the magicians that walk around the festival, and before we knew it they were doing some sort of photo shoot right here in our studio. As rookies, we’re very lucky to be located next to the ‘veterans’ of Studio Brussel, because they let us borrow everything we forgot!”

“In contrast to Dance FM, for us a weekend at Tomorrowland feels like coming home. Some DJs have become friends to us over the years, like Martin Solveig. He promised to bring us cake for the tenth anniversary of Studio Brussel at Tomorrowland. And Nina Kraviz, who we interviewed for twelve minutes last time, is visiting again. About our neighbours of ‘538’ we can say one simple thing. We like them because they’re the most quiet Dutch neighbours we ever had!”

RADIO CONTACT

MADEMOISELLE LUNA “Did 538 say something nice about us? For us it has been incredibly hard work, but absolutely a lot of fun too. We even had the Belgian King and Queen in our studio and gave them a gift! A long story short, we made a special sauce that we sent into space, and gave King Filip a jar. He actually tasted it and liked it! Our neighbours are Fun Radio. A cool bunch of people who make nice dancefloor music for a youthful audience.”

“Making radio at Tomorrowland is a very intense experience. Mentally it gives you so much energy that you almost forget to notice that your body is exhausted after 16 hours of live radio. We didn’t have the King over, like our neighbours, but we did have some pretty cool guests. Afrojack announced in our studio that there’s a new collab with David Guetta coming up and Kungs told us that he has a belgium new record coming up too! I can’t say that I’ve heard of Big FM before, but maybe I should tune in some time!”

“It’s a dream come true to be here. I mean, it’s Tomorrowland! Everybody is here, we had Armin van Buuren in the studio, and Afrojack, whom I sat on a plane with a couple of weeks ago. It’s just unreal how much is going on here at any moment of the day. Everybody is hyped up. Me as well, I’m just working so hard right now. amicorum That’s whyspectaculum I haven’t talked to my next-door neighbours of Dance FM yet, which is a shame because I always listen to them from Germany!”

TASTING THE STARS Tired of the beers and strong booze? Have a glass of Vallformosa cava. Bubbles never tasted so good, and Tomorrowland never felt so bubbly! Let the fizz caress your taste buds and let the glow warm your insides, then sit back and watch the people pass by for a while. You can find the Vallformosa cava bars all over the terrain, so a glass of sparkly love is never far away. Enjoy, be responsible and may the flush on your cheeks stay for the rest of the weekend.

HEALTHY BOOZE “It’s not as bitter as I’m used to!” A surprised Marissa takes an intense look at the big glass of gin-tonic she just sipped. She’s chilling out with her friend Iris at the patio next to the lovely LEAF stage. The wonderful concoction in her hand was carefully put together by the bartender at the Origins Fever Tree bar just a minute ago. It’s a sublime mix of Beefeater gin and Indian Fever Dream tonic, so she judges. Marissa clearly knows her gins. Back home, she works at a restaurant and often sneak in a peak at the bartenders to pick up the tricks of the trade. She starts confidently listing how many varieties of the drink there are, despite its seemingly simple recipe. “It’s a drink you actually need to take your time for to enjoy. Want to get drunk? Stick to wine. This is for that nice lounge vibe. Even though gin-tonic has little calories and the hangover is very small in comparison. As far as it’s possible, it’s a healthy booze!” You heard it – Origins is where you need to be able to get out of bed tomorrow!

A MESSAGE FOR MUM

Everyone’s mum is the best, of course – and though Tomorrowland is the perfect place not to think about their parents for many, these party-animals had a special message to their mums back home.

MAGICAL FRIDAY

The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow a mystery.music Today is as a gift. That's why it is called the present. Anika’s mum is not like any other mum. She’s into isdance well! And they share a fascination for one DJ in particular. “I would tell my mum that I saw Tiësto! She’s a massive fan of his music, so The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. she’s jealous of me for being able to be here and Today to see him. But is a gift. That's why If it isit’s called the present. any consolation, I thought of her the whole time!”

Caroline is enjoying every moment of Tomorrowland. It’s even a bit too much sometimes, but she will never tell her mum that. “My mum was a bit worried that I went to Tomorrowland, so I would tell her that I’m still alive and kicking! The beer would probably be the only thing she would like here.”

Confronted with the question what they want to say to their mum, Teun and Sander immediately point to their friend Dennis. “You should ask Dennis this question!” Dennis, however, has no idea what to say. “Uuhhhh... I would, I would... I have no idea!” Sander chimes in, as he knows exactly what to say to Dennis’ mum: amicorum spectaculum “Bea, if you want to come to Tomorrowland, you can sleep in my tent!” Friendship is a beautiful thing, indeed.

Pontus from Sweden has something more in mind than just sending mum some snail mail. “My mum would love this, I hope. She definitely needs to come out here once to experience what a wonderful event this is.”

Strolling around the fountain, enjoying their delicious ice-cream, these friends are enjoying Tomorrowland a lot, maybe even a little too much to want to talk to their mums. “If my mum called me right now, I would tell her that I love her but that this isn’t a very good time to talk.belgium I’d tell her I’d call her back tomorrow,” Marie laughs.

FALAFEL BY FINJAN This is the true vegetarian festival classic! There are few vegetarians who have never eaten a falafel. And the ones made by Finjan are as delicious as they come. These fried snacks are filled with chick peas, broad beans, and spices such as coriander. They come in a freshly baked pita with hummus. Pitas are easy to take with you, so you can run on back to your favourite DJ while enjoying this nutritious snack.

LOVE TOMORROW, GO VEGGIE! RISOTTO BALLS BY BALLS & GLORY

For everyone who wants to enjoy a healthy dinner without eating meat, there’s a plentitude of vegetarian food stands at the festival site. From Vietnamese to Italian, a vast number of chefs offer meat-free dishes. On top of that, there are also possibilities for people who prefer their meals vegan or gluten-free. And don’t hesitate to ask the kitchen for different options, since most of the time the cooks of Tomorrowland are prepared to adjust their meals to your personal wishes, even when they’re not shown on the menu.

Balls & Glory are famous Belgian caterers. Starting out in Gent, they conquered the whole country with their culinary versions of the national meatball dish. But the modern chefs also came up with a vegetarian variant: Risotto balls with spinach and mozzarella. These Italian-style fried balls can be ordered with a hotpot of potatoes and different spices and vegetables, or with a refreshing salad.

Even if you are an avid meat lover, changing your choice for a steak or a burger to a vegetarian alternative is never a bad idea. The environmental impact of eating meat is enormous, and to make sure tomorrow’s People of Tomorrow can continue to enjoy their future, it will be necessary to lower our collective greenhouse gas emissions. Then again, positive environmental impact aside, vegetarian food is often very healthy, well spiced and plain delicious. The veggie options will introduce you to a whole new universe of tastes and textures. To get you started, we selected some of the most exquisite vegetarian dishes on Tomorrowland!

With these labels you can easily spot which of our chefs prepare vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free food. If you’re lactose intolerant, follow the vegan label. So pick your color, and choose your dinner!

Vegetarian Vegan Gluten-free

THE SALAD BAR BY THE FOOD MAKERS If you want a huge choice in tastes the Salad Bar is the place to be. This is a self-service restaurant where you can pay an amount of Pearls for a small or big plate and fill it with whatever you like. Choose from anything from lentils to yellow belgium carrots and combine things to your heart’s desire! Of course, with freedom of choice comes the option of going fully vegan, or even gluten-free – and it’ll still be delicious.

If you want to see the full spectrum of vegetarian and meat dishes, visit https://www.tastesoftheworld.com/ where you’ll amicorum spectaculum find an overview of the meals and stands on the festival site!

HANS VAN WOLDE THE BELUGA CHEF Tomorrowland has a tradition of putting very high quality food very high on its list of priorities. And traditionally, the Tomorrowland Restaurant will be the battlefield for a Michelinstar chef to go all-out on your taste buds, your nose, and your eyes. In the past the Resto, with its terrace looking out over the Mainstage, was a means for world-renowned chefs like Wout Bru, Viki Geunes and Seppe Nobels to introduce the People of Tomorrow to the apex of culinary achievement. This year, the knives were passed on to chef Hans van Wolde of the Beluga restaurant in Maastricht, The Netherlands. Serving thousands of couverts over the weekend, you could say the Resto is quite the festival kitchen indeed.

Hans van Wolde received no less than two Michelin stars for his persistent striving for top quality food. He’s the kind of chef that keeps pushing the boundaries and challenging his colleagues. Make no mistake: the Beluga restaurant in Maastricht is one of Europe’s top players in the champion’s league of high-standard culinary revelry. As a little boy, Van Wolde wanted to become either a drummer, a fireworks specialist, or a cook. He went down the latter career path, but at Tomorrowland, he gets the chance to combine music, food and extraordinary fireworks all together. “It’s the fourth time I’ve visited the festival and there’s no need to explain how overwhelming the atmosphere and the warmth of the audience aretime after time.” The Dutch master chef sees this as an extra accolade to his already impressive record of prizes and praise. “Just like Tomorrowland is a landmark for DJs, something every passionate and eager young DJ has on top of their bucket list, it’s quite similar for chefs. Having the opportunity to get behind the stove on this festival means getting recognition. And my main goal now is to provide some added value to the festival by cooking top food.” Does a man who’s pocketed two Michelin stars still need recognition? “Well, getting a Michelin star is an unbelievable honour, and I’ve got two! But hosting a restaurant at Tomorrowland is like a golden seal on top of those stars.” Top

chefs on music festivals: it’s still a pretty recent phenomenon. So when did a nice greasy portion of Belgian fries with mayonnaise become passé? “It never did! Belgian fries are part of the festivals just as much as hamburgers and hot dogs. The difference is that the execution of those dishes just improved. The festivalgoers became a whole lot more critical. They’re more aware of good food, quality ingredients, and how and on what they want to spend their money. They want the products to be more fresh and the menu to be healthier too.” Van Wolde intends to try and make your visit to his Tomorrowland Restaurant as close to the real thing as possible: “Having dinner should be a moment of relaxation, a moment to reflect on the madness going on around you, while being served in style.” It’s no easy task, given that he’s got 700 mouths to feed each day. “It’ll be quite a wild ride, but that’s just the way we like it!” His life has always been intertwined with music in one way or another, so our chef always has music playing inside the kitchen. “Only this time the music will come from the Tomorrowland Mainstage! What an injection of energy this is: the music and the bass of the Mainstage, the buzzing of the crowd and crew and all those colourful people. This really inspires me even in my cooking.”

FOCUS ON THE MUSIC

CUBANISTO

VERSUZ

ANTS

Yo ho ho, and a bottle of mighty good rum in a cocktail mixed up out of various techno, tech-house and house styles. Indeed, today the Circus stage is your house! Why? Well, for one, the one and only Renaat Vandepapeliere is coming over! Renaat (along with his wife Sabine) is the founder of supreme techno label R&S Records and should get an actual gold medal for being the best talent scout in techno music - and his DJ skills aren’t all that bad either. Furthermore, he has Ten Walls, Notoir, Goldfox and Vision Machine bringing the ruckus to the circus.

You might want to rub the unbelief out of your eyes when glimpsing upon the seminal all-star line up that Versuz is about to unleash on all your senses today at the Organ of Harmony stage. There’s the electro pioneer, keytar-warrior and sensei to David Guetta, Joachim Garraud, bringing out his famous alien masks; there’s Belgians Sem Thomasson, Dave Lambert, Peter Luts, and Delafino. But in come the cannons when the rest of the roster, consisting of John Dahlbäck, Fedde Le Grand and mister Love Generation himself, Bob Sinclar, will tear you apart with some sweaty house music. Get a little taste of those fountains!

ANTS stands for an underground movement originating from Ibiza, started by German techno wizard Kölsch. “When in 2010 the ‘ketamine house’ wave came through town and everybody was doing really boring stuff at 118 BPM, I wanted some melodic techno to put the energy back in the scene,” says Kölsch. “People need that energy to express themselves and go crazy for a bit.” Helping hands will be provided today by ANTS regulars like Andrea Oliva as well as household techno names like Matthias Tanzmann and – surprise, surprise – the chef of restaurant The Jane, Nick Bril! You’ll get your portion of re-defined techno right here.

MORE MADNESS EVERY TIME ‘never change a winning team’ is a rule that counts for football

teams as well as festival line-ups. tomorrowland’s favorite dj

brothers, dimitri vegas & like mike, are at it again this weekend. they turned the mainstage upside down last night and they’re host-

ing their own smash the house stage today. next december, they’ll be taking their bringing the madness shows to antwerp for the fifth time. read all they have to say about it right here.

If there’s one DJ duo who live and breathe Tomorrowland, then it would have to be our beloved Belgian brothers, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. Ever since they made their very first appearance at this festival in 2009, the brothers have conquered the first place in DJ Mag’s Top 100, sold out shows for thousands of people and performed at festivals all over the world. The two were born and bred at a stone’s throw away from the grounds of De Schorre in Boom, and their career pretty much took a parallel path to the growth of Tomorrowland. Just like Tomorrowland, they learned everything the hard way but persisted, keeping a close eye on the balance between hard work and quality. In the end all of it paid off. Their tip-top shape was evidenced again yesterday when they smashed the Mainstage, and today it’s time to host and headline the Smash the House line-up at the Momentum stage. The boys have invited guests and friends like Oscar & The Wolf, W&W, Nicky Romero, and even Dimitri’s girlfriend, MATTN. You could definitely say that things are going great for the two with the fifth consecutive edition of their Bringing the Madness shows at the Sportpaleis in Antwerp in the works. There’s no less than four dates on the agenda, and looking back at last year you’d better catch up fast, because those four shows – 85,000 tickets – sold out in no time. “You know, when we started this Bringing the Madness thing five years ago we were crossing our fingers hoping to sell out just one date,” Dimitri says. “When eighty-five thousand people showed up for four nights last year, we had to pinch ourselves in the arm. It’s really heartwarming to have so ridiculously many people show up for our Sportpaleis shows. People from all ages and all origins, no less. It has become so big that it’s almost a winter edition of Tomorrowland.” Bringing the Madness has indeed become a standard for winter clubbing in Belgium and the brothers tend to stay closely connected to the production process of those massive shows. “Every year we want it to be more exuberant, bigger, bolder and with more LED video and a more overpowering lights

“It’s heartwarming to have so many people show up for our shows.”

“After the show, people won’t know what hit them.”

show. That’s something Tomorrowland and us work on very closely together, the support of the festival is immense. We want to leave people at the end of a night with the feeling that they’ve just witnessed the best show on earth, overwhelmed by a feeling of... just ‘wow’, you know? They won’t know what just hit them.” Thanks to their own effort and the support of the festival, the Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike-brand hasn’t been doing all that bad either, because nowadays there’s the Garden of Madness (their weekly hosting at Ushuaïa in Ibiza), the Sound of Madness compilation and the Bringing the Madness shows. But what exactly is this Madness that they like to proclaim so much? “Well… it’s just madness, haha! The name says it all, really. The Madness stands for the state of mind we want people to be in when attending our shows. We want them to tear the place apart, go crazy, go apesh*t and just rip it!” A positive result of being successful and having been crowned DJ Mag’s #1 DJ in 2016 is that the eyes of the world were suddenly turned to these two brothers from picturesque little Belgium. And by eyes, we mean all eyes, including those of other superstars from genres way beyond EDM. “We love a good collab every now and then, but the thing they’ve all got in common is that they came into existence in a very organic way. There has to be a click, a connection between both parties.” Recently they found common ground with none other than David Guetta. “Our new single ‘Complicated’ is us with David and Ciara. It’ll also be our very first single on Sony Records, where we’ve just recently signed an artist deal - another major step for us.” The release of ‘Complicated’ is the next milestone in the duo’s ever so prosperous career, and it will be followed by the rest of their hosting sessions on Ibiza and, of course, the Bringing the Madness shows at the end of the year. “Our main goal for the future is to just keep doing what we do, but to get better and bigger along the way. With just a little bit more Madness every time.”

glorious music

This is not the last day; it’s the beginning of Tomorrow. And if that little piece of backfiring flower power wisdom doesn’t cheer you up, then the line-up of this Glorious Sunday definitely will. There’s plenty to go around, so get your butts out of those tents and straight to Markus Schulz’ Daybreak Session on the Mainstage - and don’t stop! ‘The hardest working man in trance music’ will help you break out of your tiredness with a 3-hour-long set. Following in his footsteps on that same grand stage are the likes of Oliver Heldens and Solomun, accompanied by two of the world’s greatest: David Guetta and the number one DJ in the world, Martin Garrix. If you feel like cooking up a bit of a goulash inside of your head we strongly suggest you hurry yourself up towards the Arch Stage where mister Dave Clarke, the Baron of Techno himself, will invite the genre’s fine fleur, including Len Faki, Ben Klock, Ken Ishii and Charlotte de Witte. Add to that Smash the House, Footworxx, Sven Väth’s Cocoon and Claptone’s The Masquerade, and everyone is sure to get their cup of tea. Seize that damn day, seize it!

DAVID GUETTA FOCUS ON GLORIOUS SUNDAY MAINSTAGE 20h00 - 21h00 Does this man require an introduction, really? He is, without a shadow of a doubt, the greatest of all the superstar DJs on our little planet. Even the top-selling upper class of world-famous pop stars would trade in both their feet for a featuring on one of monsieur Guetta’s tracks. Pop stars want to work with him, DJs want to be him and the ladies… Well, let’s say they can be found on the first row for his sets surprisingly often. Every track Guetta touches turns into gold or platinum, and you’d need a calculator the keep count of his hit singles. The top 5 of the charts is what he calls home. Even so, he is looking forward for some big revolutions within the music scene he’s dominated for so long. Before the madness, we got together with the man himself, who told us all about his vision on house music today. David, you’ve played nearly every edition of Tomorrowland. Does the festival actually still hold any surprises for you? “I must say I love playing Tomorrowland, it’s always a big honour. I performed here from the beginning when the festival just started. I saw it grow each year, year after year it got better and better. The festival has the perfect balance between production and branding while inviting the greatest DJs. I myself try to make it crazier each year and - to my surprise - that seems to work every time. The crowd never disappoints me.” Do you feel as if Tomorrowland changed the festival world? “I do! Tomorrowland is big. What I try do with my music, Tomorrowland does with concepts and the sheer production amicorum size of it all. spectaculum It’s really amazing. I honestly believe that Tomorrowland has set the bar really high for other festivals and keeps doing so.”

You recently said that you’ve noticed how somehow a rather underground scene in Ibiza is now also reaching people who usually favour more commercial music. Is that a trend you also see on the festivals? “Well, everything did change a lot. Underground parties became trendy in the last couple of years. There always has been a very big and strong underground scene in Ibiza, but now it’s very interesting to see the, let’s say, VIP customers, the money-spenders, the models… they used to come over to my parties at Pacha, but now they’re also going to Solomun and to Circo Loco at DC10. There’s definitely a trend there, and I think it’s good for people to educate themselves with different kinds of music styles.” Do you feel as though the DJs are following the audience’s hunger to dare to experiment with music again? “That’s what dance music is meant to be, and that’s why I love it so much. When I started making house music, it was because I didn’t like the fact that pop music was so formatted. When EDM suddenly become more formulaic than pop, I thought: this is crazy!” So what you’re saying is that EDM should go on to the next era. What would that be like? “I don’t know yet, and that makes me very happy. In the last two years I’ve been getting tired of the same 128 BPM EDM. Everybody was playing it. But now, we’re on the verge of an amazing moment for music because it’s the end of a cycle, which also means the beginning of a new one. And what that will be doesn’t matter: I think we can all be experimental because people want new sounds and good music. That will never change.” You often work together with new or upcoming names in music. What are the qualities these

29

people need to have? What do you look for in the people you work with? “I think the technical aspect of music is very important, but what makes a record a hit is not only the execution – it’s the original creative idea. And of course it’s also about the vibe in the studio. Most people I work with already know what they’re doing, but what will make our song better is something that you can not define. It’s just the vibe that was there at that moment in the studio. And I always try to take people out of their comfort zone, because that’s when you can capture something really special from them.” You’ve recently released your new single ‘2U’. Is there an album in the works? And related to that: in the present music business climate, is there still a need to release a full album or do you see a new ‘singles’ trend rising? “Yes, there is an album in the works. I don’t care about the relevance ‘in terms of business’. Making an album is something I really want to do anyway. As an artist I can tour off of singles and people will create their own playlists. Nowadays it’s way easier for people to do that. But I still love the album as an artistic statement, as a way to tell a story. Making an album also allows me to release songs beyond the most obvious radio singles - songs I nevertheless love just as much. If I were only in it for the biggest hits, I might have never have released ‘Titanium’. Today that might be one of the biggest ones of my career, but back when we released it, it was single number five. We never thought it would do so well.” Thanks for your insights. We’re looking forward to your set on the Mainstage on Sunday; can we belgium expect something special? “Of course! my set will be full of surprises, but to find out what those are, you’ll just have to come and see!”

Although Felix de Laet will spend his summer touring together with international legends the Chainsmokers, Tomorrowland is still the apex of the year for him. Felix is an unusual success story. In 2014 he suddenly received more than 150 million streams of his summer hit ‘Are You With Me’, which made him the most-played Belgian artist in the history of Spotify. Quite impressive, if you take into account that this deep house superstar is only 23 years old. Ever since then De Laet has been playing on festivals all over the world, with the Ultra Japan mainstage as a standout highlight. But this year, he will surpass even that milestone with his debut at the one and only Mainstage on Tomorrowland. This year, De Laet is well equipped with a new pair of glasses and a fresh haircut, confident to play this home match. And while we might be used to his smooth summer hits, Felix may surprise the crowd with his more heavy brandnew hit Here With You, a collabaration with fellow Flemish artist Netsky. The only thing you can expect from Felix is the unexpected, so join us this Sunday amicorum spectaculum evening to experience his style together!

Footworxx – Cage | 17h00 – 18h15

Hi guys, it’s The Retronettes again! What a blast we had yesterday! Despite the rain we had a truly crazy time with DJ Rakesh aka Blackjack9000 - you can say that out loud as ‘Blackjacknegenduust’! He’s not only the hardest working man in Gent’s nightlife, but also the hardest working man at Tomorrowland. When the clock strikes twelve tonight he’ll have played no less than 13 hours and 20 minutes over the course of the weekend. But we had a blast with all the performers on stage. The crowd stayed with us throughout the day and all had mighty big smiles upon their faces.

Mainstage | 15h00 – 16h00

Racing to the top of uptempo hardcore music in is considered one of the main pioneers of this relatively new subgenre. He is known for his unique skull mask and his refreshing, high-quality and violent sound. He’s been raising the bar for other artists and continues to develop himself into the future king of uptempo. F.Noizes’ career took off with the first uptempo release in history: ‘Sentenced’, a collab with Andy the Core that was released on the first EP by Partyraiser Records. Not coincidentally, he also makes up the duo Scarphase with Partyraiser. Check him out on the Footworxx stage today at 17:00.

King Arthur is a DJ, a producer, a mechanical engineer and more importantly: a selfmanufactured EDM robot. His artist name is inspired on his first name Arturo and the day he was born: King’s Day in Puerto Rico. He started DJ’ing in 2000, built his robot suit nine years later, and finally started to produce after 10 years of being a DJ. An extremely fast mixer, his top speed is 48 songs an hour, with a BPM between 128 and 130 and influences like Melbourne, Electro, EDM and Complextro. With a battery life of around nine hours and only one hour to play, King Arthur will have to compress all that energy into one set at 15:00. Be there!

Flo, a.k.a. ‘Mama Retronette’, flew in today from Cannes in France and that really gave us the energy boost we needed. It was great seeing her shaking her booty backstage as she just glowed with pride over the Ultra Modern stage. Pierre Elitair also played yesterday. He’s the oldest DJ in Antwerp and has what is probably the biggest collection of 7” vinyls in Europe. He’s a soldier of the new beat generation and he always says that everything sounds well with a little mayonnaise on top, haha! Today we’ve got more of the same madness in store for you. We can’t wait to have DJ Rakka back on stage with us at 5 p.m., we are absolutely positive he’s gonna drive the crowd completely crazy again. And DJ Kisa our blonde bombshell from Spain – will also be playing today at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Expect a tornado at Radio Ultra Modern! Come say hi, and maybe we’ll even throw you a little kiss, Have a ball, darlings,

Claptone – Core | 18h00 – 19h30

The Claptone stage presents a special act today at 6 p.m.: Black Coffee. This South African record producer started his career in 1995. Perhaps the most renowned producer of all of Africa, he’s released five albums on his label Soulistic Music, sidestepping Afro-house clichés and stage-managed highs in favour of restrained sophistication. Black Coffee has a penchant for true Afropolitan house: home-brewed but fresh and future-focused. His sets are characterized by an almost sculptural balance and beauty, and will amuse the broadest range of dance fanatics possible. Tomorrowland is the perfect belgium festival for this jack-of-all-trades to demonstrate why Coffee should at al times be consumed Black.
