people of tomorrow,

THIS IS WHAT TOMORROW LOOKS LIKE!

Well – this is it. The Spectaculum Amicorum came together, performed and partied for three days. We wrote history. This was the greatest show on Earth, the most marvelous extravaganza ever to grace the Holy Grounds of De Schorre. Even before the curtain rose, the Gathering turned into a joint statement of intent. ‘This weekend will be bizarre beyond belief ’ is what you told the world, before a long and restless DreamVille night. On the next day, the carnivalesque Mainstage was revealed. At first, the spectacle was overwhelming. All manner of circus acts, musicians, decorators, dancers, acrobats, speakers, magicians, and

creatures; they’d travelled far and wide to Boom to build a world of entertainment. But soon enough the spectators – you – began to merge with them. You became artists, too, and you painted a picture of Tomorrow. And what a beautiful picture it was. A picture wherein people unite as one, regardless of colour or creed. A future wherein worldly concerns are disregarded in favour of artisty and revelry. A future only the People of Tomorrow could imagine. Thank you, one and all, for your unbeatable contribution to the Amicorum Spectaculum’s cause, and for your dedication to Tomorrowland. And who knows… see you at the next Spectaculum?

safe travellers,

SPECTACLES & REVELATIONS This year’s Amicorum Spectaculum brought us countless

BON VOYAGE!

unforgettable moments. We kicked off the week with a dark Global Hardcore Nation take-over with legends like Angerfist, while on the other side of the festival Elrow opened the brand-new Organ of Harmony stage with a ridiculous amount of confetti, blow-up dolls, and music by Mark Maya and Joris Voorn, among others. Saturday was a milestone for Tomorrowland’s techno history, when the Belville Three, a collective of the three founders of Detrioit Techno, played an epic three-hour-long set for I Love Techno at the Wind Stage. But the climax of this weekend occurred when Belgium’s greatest artists took over: for the first time on Tomorrowland, the electropop band, Oscar & The Wolf, broke boundaries by playing a live show. They amicorum were followed spectaculum up by Flanders’ finest, Lost Frequencies and Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike. Once and forever, Tomorrowland put Belgium on the map of EDM pioneers!

Tomorrowland’s care for you doesn’t end when you’ve closed the doors of the festival behind you. We’ve prayed to the gods of dance music for your safe homecoming. So as we say in Belgium: “Voorzichtig op de baan eh!”

writers of history,

YOURS IS THE MEMORY! We’re hoping from the bottom of our hearts that you’ve made just as many new, fresh and great memories this weekend as we did – or maybe even more. Cherish those, don’t take them for granted. A good memory will last forever.

Memorable Friends, Time slipped through your fingers, didn’t it? Only three days we got to spend

belgium

As you know, the Amicorum Spectaculum only gathers when it has been written in the stars and when the planets have aligned. But merely the acquiescence of the Universe is not enough for us to come together; conjointly, it is your blessing that we need. And blessed you’ve made us feel. In the real world, some might think of us as outré or eccentric at best. But here, in this magical temporary world, extraordinary People unite as the embodiment of love. Such things don’t happen all by chance. Our somewhat farcical Triboulet pulled his strings and yours to leave nothing to fate. Cupid has nothing on a puppet master of his calibre!

together, but the line between artists and audience faded as we bonded over the enchanting compositions of Tomorrow. Which of Ernesto’s tunes will echo on in your heart until we unite again?

We watched as he connected the stories of your souls; Ekaterina guided your confidence in dancing to the sounds of the future; we witnessed you discovering your own gifts. And that’s what makes an artist – sowing the seeds that you were given and reaping the fruits of your talents. Developing those talents requires vigorous dedication. Though our coterie of virtuosi is established through lineage, we have all spent our lives working on the dream of performing together. Raya told us it would happen, but it was because of you that our dream came true. The prospect of being able to do this once more in a week’s time is wilder than anything our elders prepared us for, but ready we are. Ready to make more spellbindingly beautiful memories. And in our memories you will stay forever and always; this once-in-a-lifetime weekend is now embedded in our intertwined tale. With peace, love, and unity, Ernesto, Raya, Ekaterina, and Triboulet THE AMICORUM SPECTACULUM

- highlights -

Alas, the festival has ended, so the weather gods are crying! The rain will be accompanying us the whole day. But don’t worry: you will be spending most of your day in a car, bus, train or airplane. See you next year!

DREAMVILLE

FROM DREAM TO REALITY There’s no feeling like waking up disoriented, zipping your tent open, and gazing straight out over the grounds of DreamVille, knowing there’s another day of Tomorrowland madness on the horizon. Do you remember those crazy karate sessions with Laidback Luke or that time when you and your friends chased each other bare-footed over the obstacle course? Out of breath you laid down in a hammock at the Chillout, entertained by a Dynomagene street artist. An unknown Japanese guy shared his barbecue with you when you were out of food. At night you strolled back to DreamVille, your heart bursting with the most splendid impressions and unexpected encounters, to fall asleep fulfilled. This was your home, and it always will be. For one year it will disappear from reality and live on in your dreams. But within one year, it will come back to life. And you will be welcome once again.

PERFORMANCE ART Is it a man? Is it a toy? Is it a mime? No, this is the Dynamogene! This artist rolls all around the festival in search of a handshake. In the middle of a crowd the Dynamogene pleads for the People of Tomorrow to grab his hand and pull him backwards. When a girl hesitantly takes the initiative the Dynamogene starts rocking every which way, with a mysterious smile on his face, leaving the audience confused and entertained. Tumbling around and interacting with the audience this street artist is guaranteed to be in the centre of attention wherever he’s performing. The Dynamogene was just one out of the many acts and creatures to be found on Tomorrowland this weekend; clearly, the Amicorum invitation did not fall upon deaf ears among performance artists!

It’s the fourth year Moa and Erika are travelling all the way from Japan to Boom. Yet even veterans can run into unforeseen amicorum struggles. Likespectaculum when you have a brand-new tent and it’s fighting you every step of the manual. Good luck, girls!

Juan (Colombia): “I’ve been planning to come here for seven years now, so I’m excited, to say the least. I can’t even belgium describe how it feels to be here! I made my personal line-up and have around 30 minutes per DJ, so a tight schedule.”

4

amicorum spectaculum

Thomas, Patrick, Julia, Alex (Austria): “We had such a huge party yesterday, we went a little too hard to be honest, so we decided to just sit here and read the newspaper. We’re really overwhelmed with the programme for this weekend!”

Tara & Cathy (Ireland): “In Ireland we’ve visited basically every festival possible, but there are not so many festivals programming DJs. Tomorrowland is like heaven for us, but we need to refresh now and get going fast. Bye!”

IN THE END IT ALL WORKED OUT Or should we say: in the end YOU all worked out? And by working out, we don’t just mean the tireless dancing you’ve been doing. Tomorrowland had a pretty rough schedule ready for you at DreamVille to put your body’s physical limits to the tests. Some of the offerings were Bodycombat, Sh’bam, FunXtion and even a Kung Fu class lead by Laidback Luke. While the music’s there for your mind and your soul, the maintenance of your body was something you had to take care of yourselves. And so you did! All workout classes were a massive success and needless to say, you looked healthier and fitter than ever!

amicorum spectaculum

In the middle of a field of grass we find Emily from England lying peacefully next to the most bizarre breakfast we’vebelgium seen so far: a slice of pizza and an ice cream. “This is my Tomorrowland special! But it isn’t really helping me wake up. Maybe I’ll try a waffle later on,” she says with a magical smile.

5

Next to the barbecues a couple of Dutchmen are baking fresh eggs. Sebastian tells us, “This is typically Dutch, saving money and eating together around the table. We brought 80 eggs and 100 sausages which we have to finish before the end of the festival!” Well, at the rate you’re going, we’re sure you will succeed, Sebastian!

CAREFREE TRAVELS Are you a bit worn out by all the madness? Are you just too tired to pack your bags and carry your stuff all the way back to the bus and to your terminal? Brussels Airlines to the rescue! Tomorrowland’s Global Journey partner has got your back as they’ll carry your luggage from DreamVille to your final destination - for free. If you’re traveling with Brussels Airlines to a European destination (without a connecting flight), staying at DreamVille and if your flight is leaving after 4 p.m., then you are in for a real treat. Your careless weekend is about to get stretched as carrying your bags is no longer necessary. How does it work? Easy: when you’ve packed your bags, take them the remote drop-off venue at DreamVille entrance 1, in front of the big rainbow. Come in between half past 8 a.m. and noon, and keep your boarding pass ready. You can then drop off your bags. So say goodbye to your luggage, enjoy a carefree journey, and you’ll see your bags back at the reclaiming belt of your final destination.

Massimo, Alicia, Gabriel (Brussels): “We are from Brussels, but today we come from Tomorrowland. We are here with a group belgium of around ten friends to meet new people, enjoy the party and forget about all the stress in life.”

ROYAL RAVE As you might know by now, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are the uncrowned kings of Tomorrowland. But even they had to get off their throne for a while when the actual King and Queen of Belgium paid us all a visit on Friday. On Belgium’s national holiday, King Filip and Queen Mathilde came down to the grounds of De Schorre, had a little chat with the people of Studio Brussel and Radio Contact, and then went straight off to the Mainstage for a royal rave. They met some Global Journey travellers and had their picture taken with Netsky, Charlotte de Witte and Henri PFR, who all got the royal seal of approval.

REFUNDING YOUR SPARE PEARLS Chances are your Bracelet is still filled with treasure-loads of Pearls you didn’t manage to spend on this year’s festival. However, there is a way to refund your precious real-world cash, be it euros, dollars, yen, kroner or any other currency! There are two different procedures to make sure you retrieve the money. Below we describe the basics; for detailed info look up tomorrowland. com/en/festival/mybracelet/cashless-refund. Automatic online refunds If you’ve topped up your bracelet online through any of the following means - Credit Card (VISA, Mastercard), Bancontact or iDeal - your Pearls will be refunded automatically, minus any Bonus Pearls and a 2 Pearl refund fee.

LET THE MUSIC PLAY Once you’re driving or flying home, make sure to spice up your journey up by picking up the most magical release of the year: the official Tomorrowland compilation, ‘Amicorum Spectaculum’. This year the compilation is a three-CD package wrapped in stylish fabrics and featuring mixes and collabs by Armin van Buuren, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Martin Garrix, and Lost Frequencies. ‘Amicorum Spectaculum’ is a compilation for children of all ages and is now available on 3CD and on iTunes.

Manual refund for on-site Top-Ups If you topped up your bracelet on the festival site with cash, credit card or debit card, there’s a different procedure to get your money back. You will have to fill in the online refund form, which will be available after Tomorrowland at tomorrowland.com/en/festival/mybracelet/cashless-refund. A 2 Pearl refund fee will be applied and Bonus Pearls are not refundable.

TASTES OF

THE WEEKEND

Yummy, yummy, yummy, we got some stars into our tummy! Michelin stars, that is, in the same top quality league as the stew of beats cooked up over the course of the weekend. Enormous effort was put into all the food you were able to feast your taste buds on. Whether it was authentic Belgian fries, 100% vegetarian kebabs or a six-course meal with matching wines prepared by a top chef: the amount of gastronomical possibilities was endless. We had the kitchen wildlings of Jong Keukengeweld going Machete with their knives in the Tastes of the World Restaurant, and Hans van Wolde of two-star restaurant Beluga in Maastricht hosted the amicorum spectaculum Tomorrowland Resto. If you wanted your food and beats mixed on the spot, B-EAT was your place to be as DJs like Afrojack provided the tunes to the cooking of star chefs. Bon appétit!

LOVE TOMORROW, LIGHT UP THE WORLD amicorum spectaculum

belgium

Let’s take a little moment of reflection to focus on your happiness and luck. Not only the happiness and luck you’ve experienced throughout the weekend, but in life in general. You were here this weekend while other people weren’t. Some people may not even have the means or possibilities to get here, for any number of reasons. Because Tomorrowland holds the ideal of a better world for everyone, the Love Tomorrow Foundation was established. In collaboration with Cunina, the foundation is building its first Love Tomorrow Music & Arts School in Sekha, Nepal. In this region, high in the mountains, most kids don’t

8

have the opportunity to get education, and if they do they may have to walk for up to three hours to get to school. This weekend, you’ve all contributed to the better world Tomorrowland envisions. For every Tomorrowland flag sold, €€5.00 was donated to the Foundation, and large amounts of donations were also made to their mobile teams and in the Fashion stores. On behalf of the children of Nepal, here’s a big thank you for your donations. They’ll help the Love Tomorrow Foundation support this belgium important cause, as well as many others in the future!

THE WEDDING OF YOUR DREAMS “A dream you live together is called reality!” The People of Tomorrow are slowly waking up in their Cabanas, it’s a peaceful Sunday morning and everybody is trying to cure their hangover when they suddenly come upon the Montagoe. Their faces look confused. What are all those flower decorations for, and what are all these people waiting for? Then, suddenly, the ‘Wedding March’ starts playing and Yamin Rivera and Nelson Cor surprise the onlookers with a twist that should have been obvious all along. It’s a DreamVille wedding!

he hands the microphone to the bride: “Rule number one! You must leave all your problems at this point. Rule number two! Let the vibe, the music and your love take control. Finally, the most important and third rule: Live Today, Love Tomorrow, Unite Forever!” The couple gets the chance to say some nice words to the guests before the most important part of the ceremony starts, thanking everybody for being present at “this beautiful wedding at the most beautiful festival in the world.” The rings, custom-made Tomorrowland examples, are presented in a beautiful Tomorrowland case. After the couple puts them on, it’s time for the official wedding. The director urges the couple to give each other “the biggest kiss you ever gave each other” and releases hundreds of white butterflies.

Tomorrowland is a place where connections are stronger than anywhere else. Lifelong friendships are made and hundreds of people meet ‘the one’ during the festival. But to the innocent DreamVillers’ surprise, couples also engage here and nowadays marriages are a yearly returning tradition on Tomorrowland. The couple marrying today has an extra special story, since they engaged in Paris during Unite last year. Nelson decided to dedicate their whole marriage to their shared love: EDM. Their love story sounds like it came straight from a fairytale, as evidenced by their wedding videos: “Dear Nelson, I met you in the most unexpected way that night at the bowling alley. Who would have known that I would be here today, writing you a love letter describing your meaning and significance in my life?” Goosebumps appear on the arms of those around the couple as they leave the cosmetics studio to walk the aisle. They look each other in the eyes next to the big pond on their way to the bed covered in flowers.

The ceremony is breathtaking and nothing like your average wedding. Yamin and Nelson’s shared love for electronic dance music helped give this relationship a strong foundation for eternal love. After their engagement at Unite Paris and their wedding at Tomorrowland 2017, it’s clear that Tomorrowland once more helped people find the true meaning of life and love. Tomorrowland wishes the happily married couple a beautiful, happy and healthy future. Live Today, Love Tomorrow, Unite Forever!

“A dream you live together is called reality,” Koen van der Sande, the Tomorrowland wedding director, says in the introduction to his ceremony. Combining love stories, a little humour and beautiful words into a smooth speech, he leaves the visitors of the wedding speechless for minutes. Both the married couple amicorum spectaculum and the People of Tomorrow get one final word of advice before

Shoreside Stories It’s late in the afternoon and the Amicorum Spectaculum is in full swing. While the dragon at the Rose Garden keeps a watchful eye on her flock, the grassy shores of her lake provide a little moment of respite for the weary travellers of Tomorrowland. The waterfront’s turning out to be a preferred spot for many; they take a moment to lay down their heads and take a breather from the mayhem going on all around. Enjoying the view and the faraway sounds, we met some of these people to hear their shoreside stories.

As the sun beats down on the lake, The Rose Garden is filling up fast. The voice of Chuck Roberts bellows from the dragon’s peninsula. “In the beginning there was Jack, and Jack had a groove”. The crowd goes wild. The DJ goes wild. Today is a good day. Just outside the dancefloor, Yahav and Heli sit down in the shade. They hail all the way from Israel. “I like guys, and I come from a country that isn’t the most popular in the world right now,” Yahav says. “I’m always on guard, kind of scared, when I walk down the street somewhere. There’s a lot of judgement and hate out there. But here, I can be myself. I can express my feelings without having to watch my back.” He smiles and gets up. Time to get back to the party, Heli says. Friends are waiting, and there’s memories to be made. A little further down the shore, there’s a Captain hopping around. Geert’s here with his partner Suzy. It’s the one weekend in the year they leave the dogs with a sitter. They live right around the corner in Hulshout, about 45 miles from Boom. It’s Geert’s fiftieth birthday today. “We’ve been raving for a couple of decades now. And let me tell you, if somebody says that everything was better ‘in the old days’, they’re full of it.” Things have changed for sure, Suzy says, but for the better. “It may not always be my cup of tea, all the new kinds of music, but I love watching all these youngsters losing their mind to these new DJs. You know, the fashion may have changed and the festival has grown beyond imagination, yet the passion for music’s still the same as back then. Different package, same dedication.” Meanwhile Geert’s back on his feet again. “I’m sorry man, I just can’t stay still for a second when I’m here.” At the food court in front of the Freedom stage, Chris, Jon and Ernest are enjoying a well-deserved snack. Chris lives in Toronto, Canada, Jon is from Glasgow, and Ernest’s staying in Ulm, Germany. Jon and Ernest grew up in Singapore and came to Europe to study. Chris met them on the train to the festival. Jon: “I was looking for the train I needed. Didn’t know what was going on, ‘till I overheard him asking the same thing to folks around us. And I thought by myself, ‘if we get lost, at least we’ll get lost together’. It’s their first time at the festival. “I’ve been walking all day and haven’t been in the same place twice. The vastness of it all, I still haven’t processed it,” Jon continues. Yet in that vastness they’ve made friends like Chris, who literally lives on the other side of the globe. Now that right there, that’s what we call an Amicorum Spectaculum. A little sprinkling starts to come down from the heavens, turning the calm patch of trees into a hide-out for all without poncho. Even though there’s toes being trampled and every square inch is taken, the mood of the crowd is only heightened. In a matter of minutes, taking shelter from the rain has turned into a spontaneous dance-off between the different tree-tribes. It may never be known who won, but hey – it’s one belgium fabulous Macarena, that late afternoon at the shores of Tomorrowland!

CAMP 2 CAMP Today is the day you will leave the grounds of DreamVille. You will be packing your gear, together with all the beautiful memories you made during Tomorrowland 2017. Please be considerate while doing that, and take as much as you can home with you. By bringing back your gear, you will prolong the life of those valuable materials, and they’ll rejoin you to wherever your magnificent journey will go. If you can’t take it all with you, though, pack it up and bring it to the Camp 2 Camp Reuse Drop-off Point at your District House. Your gear will be given a new destination. Do something good today, that Tomorrow will thank you for!

THE RECYCLE CLUB

The People of Tomorrow, with some help from the Recycle Team and the DreamVille crew, have sorted more than one ton of clean PMD between Thursday and Saturday! That should be enough plastic to 3D-print a whole castle. Maybe a child-sized one, but still… Good job! The final amount should be even higher, for sure. Yesterday’s prize winners: Melissa Goeminne, Kim Friedrich, Ludovic Gratoir, Decremer Amandine, Joyce Fruithof, Thomas Demarre, Robin Deltrez, Keshia Holman, Rick Roos, Jasyn Canny, Jonathan Romo Marin, Aleksandr Kuznetsov, Thania Rias Ramirez, Mortelman Dieter, Centea Ana, Emilia Cofalik, Anthony Robles, Anna-Lena Bock, Amanda Fahey, Robin Niechotz, Thomas Anke, Florian Gschossman, Damien van Kollenburg, Jelke van Nerom, David Mueller, Judith Eulerich, Katrin Allgaeuer, Andreas Wessel, Stefanie Enter & Julien Fersch

WATERVILLE

amicorum spectaculum

Love Tomorrow has directed a lot of attention at The Recycle Club and the Camp 2 Camp concept, but that’s not the only thing that has been going on to help Mother Nature. WaterVille is a project to lower the water usage at DreamVille. After a Tomorrowland edition where the water usage was monitored to gather data, last year the water network was redesigned to make it more compact. It allowed DreamVille to save an immense amount of water during the rinsing of the water pipes. Based on the measurements made last year, this year the network could become even more compact.

12

A new addition this year was the behavioural research at the showers of the Red District at DreamVille. At 20 shower in total, the amount of water used per minute was monitored live. Showers were equipped with different combinations of features like interactive lights and communication about personal and average water usage. The coolest feature was a visual of a fish in bowl you had to save. Showering a lot longer than average would kill the unfortunate (but fortunately, digital) fish. The users of the featured showers were asked to fill in a short survey about their experience. By doing this experiment, a lot will be learned about combining a comfortable shower experience with belgium saving water. Love Tomorrow and the WaterVille team are looking forward to analyseingthe results.

ACCESS ALL AREAS AT ONE OF THESE STAGES YOU WERE LOST IN TRANCE, LIGHTS FLICKERING IN YOUR FACE, WHILE AT ANOTHER YOU REGAINED YOUR ENERGY, HAVING A BEER, NODDING CONTENTLY AT THE DJ. THESE ARE THE PLACES WHERE YOU MOVED YOUR BODY RHYTHMICALLY, SPREADING YOUR HANDS ABOVE YOUR HEADS, FLOATING ACROSS THE DANCEFLOOR, ILLUMINATED BY VISUALS OR OBSERVED BY A DRAGON. UNFORTUNATELY, YOU COULDN’T BE EVERYWHERE AT ONCE. HERE, WE GIVE YOU ACCESS TO ALL THE AREAS - EVEN THE ONES YOU HAVEN’T SEEN!

FREEDOM BY BUDWEISER TRANCE ENERGY / REFUNE / SMASH THE HOUSE For years, the Opera stage was colloquially known as ‘the second mainstage’. It was a huge opera-like arena covered by the clear blue sky. It took some time to come up with a worthy replacement, but Tomorrowland has outdone itself once again. The outside of the new indoor venue, called Freedom, did not betray one bit of what you were about to see inside. It felt like you walking into the perfect indoor party venue, a black box with 360° LED-screen support showing a great variety of colourful and mind-bending visuals. The screens curving around the artist gave you the feeling of walking into one big musical group hug.

THE ROSE GARDEN MONSTERCAT / BONZAI / ROBIN SCHULZ & FRIENDS To dance with dragons is to really feel alive. The serpent of the Tomorrowland sea presided over a musical treasure like no other. From the neck-breaking drops provided by Monstercat to the intense kickdrums blasted by the beloved Bonzai Records crew, the stage was as furious as its guardian. After Bonzai’s birthday party – they turned 25 this year! – the last day was covered by Robin Schulz and friends, topping off one hell of a weekend. The Rose Garden once again proved to be a deeply cherished gem, forever holding a place in the hearts of the People of Tomorrow.

THE HARBOUR HOUSE RADIO ULTRA MODERN The Harbour House hosted a wide array of joking jesters, musical mayhem and dancing disconauts these past days. Whereas the bigger shows of the Amicorum Spectaculum drew crowds with major artists and mind-blowing visuals, Radio Ultra Modern relied on pure charm to keep your undivided attention. The Retronettes and their wonderful troupe of dancers & DJs dedicated to their craft invited you to join in once again. Dance and sing along, The Harbour House is as much a joyful experience as you make it. It’s a miracle that it’s still standing after y’all rocked it like you did. And that only goes to show that a party isn’t a real party without the People of Tomorrow.

THE ARCH SUPER YOU&ME / Q-DANCE / DAVE CLARKE PRESENTS An ancient Roman structure with a temporary slithering twist! From house to techno, and from hardstyle to electro, The Arch represented the full spectrum of dance music. It was a monstrous structure of stone, overgrown with moss, ladybugs, fountains, and pyrotechnics. Combined with a backdrop of engaging visuals, this ancient Atlantian remnant provided a scenery that kept the dancefloor full for the entire weekend, regardless of the music played that day. On Friday, Laidback Luke took over the decks with his Super You&Me troupe. Saturday Q-dance payed a hardstyle homage to the masses as their venomous reptile scaled the ancient temple, and on Sunday, Dave Clarke and his army of techno greats closed out the ancient ruin in a gripping finale.

THE ORGAN OF HARMONY ELROW / STMPD / VERSUZ This was by the most impressive addition to this year’s Tomorrowland by far. Last year there was nothing in this place except a bunch of bushes. The growing demand and urge to keep expanding triggered Tomorrowland to literally look beyond its own limits and expand its borders. A beautiful valley – it almost looked made for this purpose? – created a dancefloor where every visitor had a great view on both the entire stage and the whole crowd. A few trees in the middle revealed how much Tomorrowland has merged with its surroundings. The stage – an organ filled with water spraying up and down – combined with all its plants, flowers, and other décor, was a testament to the Amicorum Spectaculum’s mastery of architecture.

THE RAVE CAVE WINTERCLUBBING / CRYSTAL / FEESTGEDRUIS Wandering around the festival grounds, asking yourself if all of this is dream or reality, you may have been be lucky enough to stumble upon one of the smallest, yet most special, intense and intimate stages of Tomorrowland. The Rave Cave is a secret basement buried deep into one of the hills of the Holy Grounds, a very intimate place where only the absolute best members of partners Winterclubbing, Crystal, and Feestgedruis get a chance to perform in this exclusive party bunker. A beloved place for all return visitors, this cavern has been wreaking havoc deep within the ground since the birth of the most adored festival known to man.

CAGE THE SOUND OF BELGIUM / FORMA.T INVITES HUNGRY MUSIC / FOOTWORXX Next to the other micro stage on Tomorrowland – the Rave Cave – Tomorrowland was home to another little secret. In the middle of the festival grounds, in the climbing tower next to the road to the One World Bridge, stairs lead you into a hidden black box full of loud noise. The entrance to this literally underground stage was hidden on top of the central hill on the festival grounds, next to the road to the One World Bridge. Inside, the atmosphere was unlike anything else on the grounds. The word ‘cage’ might suggest that visitors were trapped, but the Cage actually represented the ultimate feeling of freedom – dancing ‘till you belgium dropped. The Sound of Belgium, Forma.T inv. Hungry Music, and Footworxx locked up the People of Tomorrow with on purpose only: to finish their musical sentence.

SOUND OF TOMORROW SOUND OF TOMORROW BY MAZDA The new and fresh talents of Tomorrow finally found a well-deserved podium in the Sound of Tomorrow stage. Built on an island put together from rafts, the stage looked like an enormous sound system comprised of countless speakers and megaphones. The long bridge heading towards it was decorated with thematic lights and fog sprays, making it feel like a walk though heaven. Upon arrival, it became clear that all those speakers weren’t there just for show – they brought forth the most enthralling of sounds. This was what Tomorrow will sound like, so you’d better remember the names of the DJs that played here. You’ll definitely hear from them again.

TULIP STAGE TOOLROOM LIVE, FUTURE SOUNDS OF EGYPT, CAFEINA The Tulip stage could be found right in the beating heart of the festival. Here, it was up to you: bare your feet in the sand or plant your dancing shoes firmly on the wooden floor. Dancing under the blue skies in front of the tulip, its leaves spread out from the DJ booth, you were pulled in more and more towards its dark centre. This stage is the only one to simultaneously feel like a beach party and a forest rave, and it was full of more interesting paradoxes. Such as the music, since the Tulip Stage hosted acts ranging from Toolroom’s innovative house to the trance of Future Sound of Egypt. On Sunday, it was taken over by Flanders’ own deephouse concept, Cafeina. This is where your expectations were surmounted and new musical experiences blossomed!

LEAF

BY APEROL SPRITZ

The LEAF area: a floating labyrinth of bridges connecting several rafts into one hybrid multi-purpose meeting point. The whole construction was covered in roaches, leaves, and plants, overgrown and merged with nature over the course of the years. The smaller islands – five in total – had lounge areas built on them to enjoy a drink and catch your breath. The main island consisted of two floors, housing a big bar below, and a terrace on the top floor. A terrace with a royal view, that is. On one side, the One World bridge rose up with its intimidating centrepiece; on the other, the forest rose up right from the water’s edge, providing some shelter from the madness. It was like owning your own floating penthouse on Tomorrowland.

THE HOUSE OF BOOKS V SESSIONS / JACKED / CAFE D’ANVERS INVITES COCOON

This house guards the wisdoms of years of Tomorrowland’s history of madness, stocked away in the books upon its shelves. Rumour has it that only the DJs on the stage are allowed to consult this Holy Grail of knowledge, adding to the legacy the House of Books has been shaping over the years. In between the walls of this small literary castle, we found raging visuals which reached as far a the stretched-out tarp over the back of the crowd and as close as the DJ booth. This varied stage hosted Tomorrowland legends like Yves V with his V Sessions as well as the headstrong techno of Cocoon, invited by Café d’Anvèrs. One thing’s for belgium sure, there’s no silence in this library!

WIND STAGE GLOBAL HARDCORE NATION / I LOVE TECHNO / PUSSY LOUNGE At the end of the big food court behind the mainstage, a big half-open tent suddenly popped up. With loud beats coming out, it confused and teased the people enjoying their delicious meal or drink at the tables close by. This stage worked like a magnet: people walking by literally ran into the crowd. Looking at the decoration of the stage and the tent, it might actually be magnetic. Horns, antiquated pumps, and a lot of other colossal elements together formed a machine that whipped up a storm that drew huge crowds every day. On Friday, the tent was filled with the party starters, the founders of hardcore: Global Hardcore Nation. Saturday the tempo went back down a little for I Love Techno, and on Sunday the Wind Stage welcomed Pussy Lounge to blast you outta Belgium.

CORE STAGE DRUMCODE / PARADISE / THE MASQUERADE BY CLAPTONE Hidden away far in the woods, only accessible through a bridge next to the Mainstage, the brand-new Core stage was located. Looking up, with your feet on the wooden floor, you could see only parts of the sky through the canopy, scarcely lit by lightbulbs shining down upon the thumping crowd. Some danced right in front of the DJ as he worked inside of his wooden throne, while others looked out over the madness, taking a rest in the shady hills at the back of the area. Here there were no big climaxes and drops; darker and deeper tones were dominant with hostings by Drumcode, Paradise and The Masquerade by Claptone. This secluded rough diamond was one of this year’s best kept secrets!

THE GARDEN OF MADNESS MY HOUSE, DIYNAMIC, ANTS

Welcome to the jungle, baby! Garden of Madness is a concept that finds its roots on Tomorrowland, but is rapidly growing into a respected brand upon itself with Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike as its main ambassadors. Located on an island next to the One World Bridge, the Garden had recently arisen from the lake. Looking like a Atlantian palace almost completely covered in plants and trees and lianas, The Garden of Madness sure did live up to its name. This was the place where some of Tomorrowland’s regulars - residents, if you will - got the chance to host their very own concept. On Friday Martin Solveig was back with My House, on Saturday Solomun presented Diynamic and on Sunday the Garden of Madness was invaded by a swarm of ANTS.

TOMORROWLAND MAINSTAGE This spectacular circus of madness was the crown of the Holy Grounds. In the sacred valley, the People of Tomorrow saw their wildest dreams materialise into reality. This year, the Mainstage turned into an enormous carnival tent, inhabited by artists, clowns and acrobats, all part of the Amicorum Spectaculum. All around the stage, dark corners were found hiding the entourage of the circus, including fortune tellers and popcorn stands. And in the centre of this madness was the DJ booth, surrounded by fountains and lasers, the throne of Tomorrowland monarchs such as Steve Aoki and Martin Garrix. Together with the Amicorum family, we worshipped these demigods and were rewarded with the greatest belgium spectacle in the history of mankind!

DINNER’S

ON US! Nihdi Mehta showed off her camping-cooked breakfast the other day by sending a picture to today@tomorrowland.com. So we bought her a lovely dinner at the Tastes of the World restaurant, where she didn’t only indulge in excellent bites, but even made some new friends along the way!

BULLS ON PARADE Have you seen them fluttering around, those mysterious Red Bull girls who spread their wings to deliver - true lifeguard style - cans full of energy to all of those in need of a power boost? You should have been able to catch them all over the premises. And even

if those cans of revitalisation didn’t kick in right away, we still saw you smiling when these angels paraded around you and took you under their wings. Even learning to fly is something that can happen to you at Tomorrowland!

RELIVE YOUR

EXPERIENCE

ON AIR

Tomorrowland has been a massive team effort from you and the DJs, but why should the experience have to stop when you get home? When you lay your tired self down on the couch a la casa, why not relive the past weekend on your laptop, smartphone or tablet? From the comfort of your very own home you can review all the madness for a second time through live.tomorrowland.com. There’s DJ sets there, as well as reports from the festival grounds, all wrapped up in that furry Tomorrowland coating that’ll fit together nicely with your cocoon made out of fleece blankets.

Radio 538 had the Nervo sisters over on Saturday. The girls came straight from the Mainstage, and were still in a good mood, despite their lack of sleep for the past 40 hours. But that was not a problem, according to the girls. “This is not uncommon for us, it’s probably part of the life of a DJ,” they say. “The longest we’ve gone without sleep is 2 full days. At that point, we get really cranky.”

But after a show like they just had, they can’t be grumpy. “When we came on stage, we saw so many familiar faces in the crowd right away. To see fans from all over the world that’ve travelled so far for us is amazing.” Talking about travelling, the end of summer is near, and that means less travelling and more productions! “September ‘till amicorum spectaculum January are our writing months. Those months we lock ourselves up and really dive into our music. Unfortunately we can’t just produce hits on the fly like Martin Garrix!”

AROUND THE WORLD IN 232

FLIGHTS

Dear People of Tomorrow, we sure did enjoy all your wonderful stories and smiling faces. On behalf of the whole Tomorrowland Today team as well as the festival photographers, here’s a massive thank you for sticking with us this weekend. See you next time!

Just like Tomorrowland’s Global Journey dropped you off here a couple of days ago, it will now bring you right back to your own doorstep. We’ve had people flying in from all over the world via a whopping 232 chartered Tomorrowland flights, originating from no less than 96 cities. Global Journey also hijacked trains and buses to bring you directly into our arms. A final headcount resulted in 28,234 of the most beautiful people in the world divided over 121 nationalities – you can take belgium that ‘global’ part in Global Journey very literally. But remember: your voyage doesn’t stop here, there’s always Tomorrow.

THE GATHERING JULY 20TH 2017

The last stake gets hammered into the ground of Boom, meaning your tent is ready and you are all set to enjoy your little holiday house at DreamVille. Wandering around the campsite, looking at the quality of the showers, the highly advanced facilities, and the amazing quality of the food sold at the stands all over DreamVille, you have no choice but to wholeheartedly agree that you’ve just entered the best festival you’ve ever seen. And then you hear the sounds: the beginning of the preparty, the Gathering. It’s a jewel of a rave, spiced up with a surprise Afrojack set. After wrapping up the anniversary edition of his radio show with MC Ambush, this dance giant took the stage at the Gathering to kick off another legendary Tomorrowland chapter. By the looks of the surging crowd, all of DreamVille agreed that this Gathering was one for the books.

JULY 21ST 2017

What a grand opening we were able to witness on Friday! The circus is back in town, people! Such a great moment to stand there, all together, looking at the magic of the Mainstage unfold while pole dancers, acrobats and trapeze artists flew right above your heads. Magical Friday started out with Carl Cox’ Daybreak Session but ended in pure lunacy when Steve Aoki, Tiësto, and Eric Prydz got to work the ones and twos. We had Global Hardcore Nation’s comeback, Super You&Me’s superheroes, Drumcode’s prime techno and much, much more. What a way to dive right in on this very first day of Tomorrowland shenanigans!

JULY 22ND 2017

On your second day on the festival grounds you got right into the flow to let this incredible day surmount any expectations! Surprise still reigned at all the features this festival has to offer. Whether it’s the giant surprise obstacle course on DreamVille or a two-hour-long techno set by Charlotte de Witte at the Wind Stage, spiced up with acrobats on stilts juggling in front of the raving crowd, the weekend never ceased to amaze. What we will certainly never forget is the end of the evening on the Mainstage, featuring Belgian festival favourites Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and a perfect closing set by Alesso. Those lasers and fireworks were guaranteed to leave a lasting impression. The crowd returned to DreamVille amazed and overwhelmed, prepared for one final day of madness.

JULY 23RD 2017

One last day, one last chance to make a memory to last forever! On Sunday everyone went all-in gloriously, with every tiny bit of energy left pumping through their veins. One last time: getting lost in the Rave Cave, dancing along with Radio Ultra Modern at The Harbour House, or going totally crazy in between the trees at the Core stage. Looking deep into the eyes of the dragon guarding the Rose Garden, listening to the summery tunes of Robin Schulz, it was easy to flash back through all the memories gathered during the last three days. A feeling of euphoria and gratefulness was felt all around, as used-to-be strangers around you now felt like family. Together, most of Tomorrowland moved towards the Mainstage to see the circle be closed by the amazing Martin Garrix. This was Tomorrowland!

THE VOYAGE HOME Road tripping through the French hills, watching the German landscape shift by from the window of your train, dancing aboard the Amare partyflight while flying over the Spanish Pyrenees… These are merely a few examples of how you, Tomorrowland travellers, found your way to Boom. You’ve used pretty much all types of transportation possible. Some of you even chose to explore more of Europe during the Discover Europe Tour, or used Tomorrowland’s facilities to travel as one family in the Global Journey. But now, since Martin Garrix played his last track on Sunday, the gates of the Holy Grounds are closed. And unfortunately, it’s time to return home. As a last gift we offer you a bunch of tips and a schedule to make sure your journey back will be as smooth as possible. Make sure to take a Tomorrowland Today with you, so you have something to read on the ride home!

EVERLASTING MEMORIES

Travelling back, with enough free time ahead of you, it’s the best time to eternalise your memories. All the experiences of the Spectaculum Amicorum are still fresh in your mind, so be prepared to pin those down in as many ways as possible. Here’s how you can prevent yourself from ever forgetting anything about this year’s festival. 1) SOCIAL MEDIA OVERDOSE Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, Pinterest. Use all your social media to share your favourite Tomorrowland moments. Follow your favourite DJs, browse their Soundcloud, add their songs to Spotify. Empty the camera roll on your phone and show your envious friends back time what a magical time you had on the Holy Grounds! 2) THE DIARY OF DREAMS Scientists have found that the best way to perpetuate a memory is to write it down by hand. Grab a pencil, a fountain pen or a quill and scribble down your best memories. Make some top 10 lists of favourite DJ sets, craziest moments, and bizarre encounters. Don’t forget to take a photo of the list before you lose it. 3) STAY IN TOUCH The open, friendly family called the People of Tomorrow doesn’t disappear when you leave the festival site. Chances are that you’re travelling together with some other lost souls. Don’t hesitate to talk to one another, and share your experiences. Add your new friends on Facebook, so you can be sure to have an even wider circle of friends on the festival next year!
