Glorious
JULY 27TH 2014
SUNDAY
People of Tomorrow,
THIS WILL NEVER END! The past few days have gone to prove that even after a decade, Tomorrowland’s magic is as strong as ever. Where else can you encounter a three metre-tall magic mushroom one minute, and hug a tree in a knitted sweater the next? Where else is the choice of where to point your eyes – the stage lighting, the beautiful face besides you, the flag proudly waving overhead – so hard? And where does the coloured smoke rise as high, where do the sub-bass frequencies reach as low? Impossible questions, all of them. For as long as we’re here, there is nowhere else. There is only Tomorrowland and the happiness within. Yesterday, it could be found anywhere. Kozzmozz drew a large and loyal crowd, B2B went ballistic in the mirror tent, and it all led up a to fireworks frenzy over the mainstage pit. Today, under the guidance of the instrument in the valley, you will spread beauty all over again. And even afterwards, tomorrow, the love and joy will remain, as you take your memories home forever. You have one day left to create them – make it count.
SUNDAY’S MUSICAL SPECTACLE Let’s make the last part of the journey the best! Saying goodbye never is easy. Sometimes it’s forever, sometimes just for a little while, but somehow it’s a tad sad every time. Today you all say goodbye to Tomorrowland, and take the happiness you’ve found with you. Instead of feeling down, let’s take on today with a big smile! AN21 & Max Vangeli open up the mainstage with a Daybreak Session. Later on David Guetta, Steve Angello and Nicky Romero will fill the valley strictly with bangers. At
the beautiful Opera stage Dave Clarke & Friends provide a more underground vibe, with Seth Troxler, Green Velvet and Paul Kalkbrenner live. Looking for some sunny sounds? The happy-golucky Bakermat is bringing along Alle Farben, Wankelmut and himself to fill the mirror tent next to the Opera stage. Or go grind your (g)ears at Daily Dubstep with bone breaking bass blown at you by Rusko, Emalkay, Distance and others. If
you never take yourself too seriously, and just want to go nuts on some fast-pumping kicks, Pussy Lounge is the place for you! They got Mental Theo, Korsakoff, Paul Elstak and the dancers to match. And check out Smash the House in the Garden of Madness: Martin Garrix, Fedde Le Grand and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are there to rave with you. Get ready for the most beautiful goodbye you’ll ever experience!
Misplaced Something?
LOST & FOUND
Lost & Found at the info point near stage 1 has already collected over a thousand items found all over the festival. If you’ve lost something important, head on over!
People of Tomorrow,
MAKE IT LEGENDARY! The inevitable last day has come. Only
A day in the life of Yves V
one day of magic, madness and the best music left. But there’s no time for sorrow. Today, you can finally dance like there’s no Tomorrow.

SIGHTS OF TOMORROW
Besides its music, décor and beautiful people, Tomorrowland has a lot more to offer. In this daily travel column, we guide you through the little secrets that lie beyond every corner. It’s magic all the way!
On this day, 1 year ago…
If you’ve read Tomorrowland Today closely so far, it should come as no surprise that famous Dutch chef Sergio Herman is hosting an exclusive restaurant again, somewhere on a secret location on the festival site. So why don’t we get ourselves into a good old-fashioned game of treasure hunting? Here’s the challenge: spot Sergio! We’ll help you get started. We know a guy who knows a guy who heard through the grapevine that word on the street was that Sergio’s restaurant is hidden somewhere inside the mainstage.
True or false? Who’s to say. It’s all yours to find out! If you’re looking for something more laidback to do, there is something to your tastes as well. This weekend is all about your mind, your body and your soul. Your mind, you ask? Yes, of course! Put it to the test in a game of plain old poker on the hill across the Mainstage, or read a book from the Tomorrowland Book Shop, in order to keep the brain cells twinkling ‘n twirling inside that pretty little head of yours. Mens sana in corpore sano, right? And last but definitely not least, our final
travel tip for today is as simple as it is impressive. Here’s what we want you to do. Head over to the mainstage, climb all the way up the hill, pick yourself a nice little spot and sit down. Just sit there for a minute, relax and oversee the madness happening in front of you. Let it sink in for a bit. Take in the striking panorama, feed on the energy that rises from the crowd, feel your heart pounding in sync with the beat. Amazing, isn’t it? Well, you’ve got yourself to thank for a fair amount of all that magic. Now get up and resume the party!
Tomorrowland won its third ‘Best Festival’ IDMA! The History of Tomorrow continues on page 29.

Welcome to
John (USA) “My girlfriend is over there doing yoga. I’m way too exhausted to exercise! We’ve traveled all around Europe, Tomorrowland is our last destination of this journey.”
Sleeping Beauty Don’t worry. Our reporter checked if she was still breathing before the photographer shot the picture. But we didn’t dare to wake her up, she might need those extra minutes…
Tomorrow has arrived The sky looked a little cloudy yesterday morning, but the sun was stronger! Some tent-dwellers didn’t seem to care and just kept on sleeping, others couldn’t stand the heat in their homes and searched for cooler places to catch some extra rest. Anywhere was fine, as long as there was enough shadow and a slight breeze. DreamVille’s early risers were even smarter, using the morning sun to recharge the energy they lost the night before. To

them, the best option was morning exercise. Amur from Ukraine is one of those morning people, and invites every single one of you to join his yoga session this morning. Feel tempted? Make sure you’re at the oxygen bar on DreamVille at 10 o’clock. And for those not blessed with the knack of getting up early: don’t worry, you’ve rested plenty to make the most out of your final day!

Arne (The Netherlands) “I’m afraid this place will be packed tomorrow morning. The shadow makes it much easier to sleep a few hours extra. And to process last night, it was just amazing!”
ALL THE WAY FROM ISRAEL “We were photographed for the newspaper yesterday, but unfortunately we didn’t make it. We woke up extra early to make sure we got our copy, but it was a little disappointing. We came all the way from Israel and we are very proud to be here, so we really hope to be luckier today. But we’ll have an unforgettable weekend anyway!” Well girls, you got lucky now. You should work on your aim a little though!
Lionel (Belgium) “Those who don’t exercise stay thin or grow rounder each day, haha. Just kidding. I need my daily work-out to stay in shape and to awaken the energy inside me.”
Beard (Chin) “I urgently need to shave myself! It won’t take long before my owner walks down the Main Avenue to enter another day of Tomorrowland, I need to look my best for that.”

FLOWER OF LOVE
Tiffany and Sven met fourteen years ago in high school. They were head over heels with each other back then, but a serious relationship was no option. Tiffany: “We were libertines, hard on the way to our wildest years.” Years later, they rekindled their friendship and before they knew it, sparks were flying again. Now, they own a house together and are the proud parents of a 2 year-old. They’re still happily together after all this, and that’s why they are today’s winners of Floor’s Tomorrowland Day Pass. During a colourful Flower Ceremony, they were crowned as Flower Couple of the day, and joined together forever in the name of Tomorrow.

Njamma Mia! Peppe’s Pizza & Pasta This year Tomorrowland literally brought Italy to the festival. L’arte della cucina, that is, the art of the kitchen. And Sicilian chef Peppe Giacomazza has the art of cooking in his hands, his heart and his genes. He was taught his craft by his father Vincenzo, who came to Belgium on his honeymoon and never did manage to go back to Sicily. 30 years ago, Vincenzo opened restaurant La Botte in Genk and some years ago his son took his place behind the stoves. Together with his friends Marc and Peppe Duo, Peppe brings oven-fresh pizzas and delicious pastas to Tomorrowland. Do great music and good food mix well together?
“Absolutely! To be honest I wasn’t really that big a fan of electronic music, but through my good friend and A.A. Ghent football player Bernd Thijs, I kind of rolled into it. Yesterday we stood on the platform in front of the mainstage with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and it was great fun. Friday I also took part in B-EAT – a headlining DJ and a chef playing and cooking together – for the first time and it was absolutely amazing. Next to all that I do have some spare time here and there, to enjoy all the festival has to offer. But I can only do so when I’m absolutely sure that all our food is perfect, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to relax (laughs).” All the biggest and best chefs are present at the festival. Is there a certain ambiance between all of you?
“Yes, there’s a great atmosphere between all of us. After we’re finished we start sending each other messages to see if we can meet somewhere. Roger van Damme and Sergio Herman texted me yesterday to have a drink together. We’re all good friends!” You’re making food for thousands of people. Doesn’t that make it hard to maintain a high level of quality?
“No, not at all. The organizers asked me if it would be possible to bake pizzas for so many people without losing the quality of baking in wood ovens. Of course we can, I said! 20 of those wood ovens were even made exclusively for Tomorrowland. We didn’t want to use the cheapest tomato sauce, the cheapest mozzarella, and so on. It’s only top quality products. And we get better and increase the quality year after year, we improve ourselves

every time again. We always want to do better and want do deliver nothing less than a top class Italian meal. You know, by seeing all these chefs here and all the other great food there is at the festival, you can just tell that the organization values and knows the importance of great food. They share a love for music and food and they succeed in bringing the very best of both worlds together. And hard work, that’s also something we share together (laughs).” Dare we ask: what’s the secret behind your secret special sauce?
“It’s easy actually: fresh products! Basically, Italian cuisine isn’t all that difficult, the difference is often made by just how fresh your ingredients are or what their quality is. And even here at the festival we work on our dishes every day, they improve every day and get better by the hour.” We heard that a lot of famous football players already paid a visit here?
“Yes, we’ve had Dries Mertens, Jan Vertonghen, Tom de Mul, Thibaut Courtois, Jelle Vossen and Bernd Thijs over here. I’ve got a connection with those football players and they can appreciate great food as well. Dries Mertens and Jan Vertonghen were also with me at the B-EAT session and that was great fun. Food, festival, football!” Have you felt the magic in the air that is such a famous aspect of Tomorrowland?
“I think you don’t even need to say that out loud to be absolutely convinced that it’s beyond everybody’s imagination. What a party! Tomorrowland really is the greatest country in the world! “

Julia & Tobias
The power of love Ghandi once said: “where there is love, there is life.” Love is the main reason for all of you to be here, at this very moment, in this very place. Love for the music, for each other, for the simple but meaningful feeling of being part of a whole. This feeling you express through dancing, laughing, being happy, and maybe even with that special someone you just met, or are hoping to meet this weekend. Who is your lover? It’s lunchtime at the food court in front of the Opera stage, where Tom Swoon is rocking Super You&Me. Bruno and his friends are all dressed in police hats, and are enjoying their food. “You’ve come to the right guy!” Bruno’s friend immediately says. Bruno has a lot of golden rings on his finger, which he gives to girls he likes. Bruno’s a bit of a romantic. As are his buddies, who all met girls on their own. Bruno: “I met two pretty girls so far, one from Australia and one from Belgium. The last one stuck with me. She had beautiful blue eyes, blond hair and a slim posture. It was somewhere by the mainstage, she was speaking French. We chatted for a while and she taught me some words and sentences. In case she reads this, please tell her I want to meet up again! I’ll be at the mainstage again, during Tiësto &
Hardwell’s set, waiting for her!” Well, if you’re that pretty blonde from Belgium, Bruno’s looking for you. You know who you are! A few feet further on, a bunch of Australian babes are enjoying some time off from all the mayhem. None of them have met that special person yet. One of them, Laura, does have a very, very clear view of what Prince Charming must look like. “The love of my life has the body of a football player. His hair has to be long. No wait, dreads! He has to be funny, and a few tattoos wouldn’t hurt either. He doesn’t have to be rich or something. It’s a surf dude, a bit of a hippy.” With such high standards it must be difficult to find a suitable candidate. “Well, we’ve seen some this weekend who came close. But I’m waiting for the right one.” Don’t be shy if you fit the description, guys. The first
move has to be yours, according to Laura. On the bridge, love comes from every direction. Through the messages imprinted in the boardwalk, through hostesses giving everyone a little piece of paper with a positive thought on it. And through Tobias and Julia from Germany, who are walking the bridge like two teens in love for the first time. “We met in the train on our way to Tomorrowland this morning. It was love at first sight. We don’t even remember what we first said to each other, it just felt right.” Tobias likes Julia’s smile and the flowers in her hair. “And I like his shirt,” Julia gleefully mumbles before heading over to some friends, loyally followed by Tobias. There’s a special place at Tomorrowland for lovers like Julia and Tobias. On the top of the hill leading to the mainstage,
Laura (bottom right) and her friends
two nuns welcome lovers to ‘Chapelle Jarretelle’. Inside there’s a bed, Tomorrowland condoms and everything else you need for 20 steamy minutes with your significant other. “It starts out a bit slow, but later in the day we’ve got to open the doors quite a few times,” one of the Sisters states. Together with her blue counterpart she lures people with a bright smile and a naughty look in her eyes. “Our motto today is ‘Make love, not war!’ Most people who enter are out in time. But sometimes we have to, how to put it delicately, ‘interrupt’.” It’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it. Looking at all the people holding hands while walking about the site, one can only conclude that love is everywhere. Ghandi’s smiling upon all of you for sure.

Tomorrowland TV A window to the world Millions of people are watching you as this weekend. Not directly, of course, but trough Tomorrowland TV. Those who couldn’t make it are part of the madness nonetheless, from the comfort of their own homes. Once again a very dedicated and creative crew is making it possible for everyone to see and hear the beautiful things happening in Boom, Belgium. Smile when you see a camera pointed at you, and your happy face will be aired for everyone to see. That way, yours is a smile for the whole world, for all the People of Tomorrow!
Lots of vodka red bull yesterday, so my wings where long and full of life... Beautiful people, why can we not live our everyday lives like we do here? Probably because the partying would kill us but seriously, why? Is it because we listen to too much nonsense on the television and worship Hollywood, or is it because we have to pay the tax man too much money? It’s all of that and more! So as we go into to Sunday, eating, sleeping, raving, repeating... Think about repeating. When Monday comes, take this experience and make the changes you need to make to improve humanity. That’s deep, I know, but try it. When you make someone happy, is that not way more gratifying than making them unhappy? I confess to you all reading this, I’m posessed, controlled by a higher something or other. I hear the words left by Marting Luther King Jr., Bob Marley and Malcolm X continuously. My wife says I’m going mad and she could well be right, but know this, Sunday is the original day to party. People say God rested, which is not true; he came down from heaven and jumped around with the rest of us. So be nice today, because you just might be in the presence of love itself! Thank you, as always, to the bestest, most gorgeous party people in the world. You need to know how important you are to the movement that is our culture. More power to you! Whatever you do, do it safely but do it right. And for the sake all of the stories to take home, do it good, because bad leads to dark places and we don’t need any more darkness in our world. Now I’m going to find some Rizla and do what I do best... Mum, where’s the Rizla at!?

Exploring the epicenter of Tomorrowland TV, the temporary office from where the enormous operation is directed, one things stands out about the crew. It’s a family, and what’s more, nobody wants to take credit for anything. ‘Don’t show the magic,’ a warning sign says at the office. Tomorrowland TV isn’t about the way it’s produced, or about numbers and facts. It’s about you, the crowd. It’s the window into the fairytale, taking viewers along on the search to happiness. “This year, more than ever, we focus on the people as they walk about the festival. What do they feel, think, say? How do they experience Tomorrowland? Our goal is to translate that feeling to the viewers. We don’t just broadcast the music with some nice shots. We deliver the entire experience, tell the entire story behind the concept. We want to give the viewer the same feeling as the people here. The feeling of happiness, madness, beauty,” the editor-in-chief states. Last year almost 18 million people tuned in over the course of the festival. How do you beat that? Is there a next level to achieve? “As the festival itself is pushed to new heights every year, we keep searching for the next level as well. This year we use things like bullet-time and stop-motion,
making items about the visitors, with the visitors. We’ve got Liz, our host, interviewing the biggest artists in the DJ hangout. We’re zooming in more on the many details and the people having a blast. An important aspect is our voice-over. It tells the story in a way that supports the whole steampunk theme. In combination with custom made visuals it connects the different items and broadcasts in a way suited to Tomorrowland.” During the festival strategically placed cameras capture the huge mainstage and the so-called Opera stage. Everyday a third stage is chosen, differing each day. “At this moment it’s the Q-dance stage, yesterday we were at the Garden of Madness, the big floating stage. These registrations are aired between the livebroadcasts. When we’re not live, they are put into three loops, so that every time zone on earth can watch everything on primetime.” Tomorrowland TV is much more than just a live-stream of the shows and music. Thanks to them, the search for the Key to Happiness isn’t just for the people who got a ticket. It is a search the whole world participates in, whether you’re at Boom or at home.
Today’s Treasure
Tomorrowland is a magical land full of surprises, as you have discovered over the past few days. During the weekend, there’ll be a little piece of treasure hidden somewhere for you to find every day. See it as a little quest of your own. It will take some effort to find the envelope containing the key to the prize, but there’s a clue for you to figure it out too. Think fast, as there are probably a lot of others looking for the treasure as well – but once you find the envelope, you’ll know what to do. Happy hunting! TREASURE HUNT HINT: “Flower power at the beach!”

SUNDAY
JULY 27TH 2014
We pick up Yves at the artist’s village on the edge of Tomorrowland. He’s got sunglasses on and a friendly smile on his face. Everything about him is relaxed and you can tell Yves is at home. He gets stopped by friends and fellow artists for a quick chat, and in the case of Chuckie, a selfie. “Man, it’s busy. I’ve been giving interviews all day and played at B-EAT. It’s been just a crazy day,” he laughs.
These few weeks have been hectic for Yves. He didn’t even get to see the mainstage in all its glory before playing on it. “I got driven straight to the backstage. After finishing up my set I took the time to walk around the hill to take a look.” The moment he looked down upon the mainstage, he thought, ‘wow, I just played here.’ It speaks for the young superstar, that sense of modesty. “I think it’s of the utmost importance to keep your feet on the ground. Why should I be different, just because I’m Yves? I’m still nervous before playing. That’s important as well, being nervous. It gets you focused, makes you want to do something special every time you’re on stage. I fear the day that those nerves will disappear, if they do at all.” The taxi has arrived.
There’s no grand entourage, just Yves, his backpack and the sun shining down on him. In the car to the Garden of Madness, the area where his V-Sessions has joined forces with Doorn Records, he happily chats away. As the driver takes the car past the Opera stage, he tells us about the first time he played at Tomorrowland, eight years ago. “I remember I was still playing with vinyl. It was a windy day and the needles kept skipping on the records. The MC had to work hard, so I could switch channels without too many people noticing. Back then, the girlfriend I had could just sit besides me on stage while playing.” Just like Tomorrowland
itself, Yves has come a long way since that first time. “One of the major differences between Tomorrowland and any other festival is that elsewhere, a manager will think ‘wouldn’t this or that be so cool to have on our party?’ and then doesn’t do anything with it. The guys over here think ‘wouldn’t it be so cool to do this or that’ and just do it. Every single detail has been thought about. Everything just breathes the fairytale they’re trying to tell. This particular mainstage is one of my favorites, because it totally fits the whole story of Tomorrowland. But also, take the Opera stage. The whole ‘360 degrees’ thing, with the balustrades surrounding the dancefloor and the giant Ferris wheel behind it. That’s the next level if you ask me.”
As we’re walking to the boat that’ll take Yves to the Garden of Madness, Brasil is the subject of the conversation. “I’ve seen so many Brasilian flags at Tomorrowland this time, it’s amazing. I play in Brasil often. For those people this festival is like Disneyland, a true land of dreams. They don’t have 20-something years of house history. The scene over there, and many other countries, is just a few years old. It makes the crowd so damn enthusiastic, whomever is standing behind the turntables.” In 2015 Tomorrowland is heading over to Brasil, and judging by the Yves’ experience, it’ll be a wild edition.

The boat arrives to pick up Yves. Destination: his very own stage. As the small but fast-looking speedboat heads our way, we wrap up the interview that didn’t feel like an interview at all, but rather like a friendly conversation. “Keep an eye on Loopers” he goes on. “They opened our stage today and they’re friends of mine, and I’m sure they are the next big thing. They are incredibly talented.” As he’s boarding his ride, he gives us a parting remark. “I’ve always believed that you should help out talented friends in every way you can. I’ve been where they are, and I’ll never ever forget where I came from. My roots, Tomorrowland.”

To Dylan, Thanks for carrying me around TML! It was really nice to meet someone from my university! If you accept my Facebook request we can party on in Leuven? Or perhaps tonight at the mainstage? I will carry the Belgian flag near the toilets! I’ll be waiting. Xoxo, Sara Mae
To the boy with the red baseball hat, I first saw you at the airport on your way to the DreamVille shuttle bus. I was the girl waving the Belgian flag. I saw you noticed me! Meet me at the Bonzai stage at 23:58 (before you change back into a pumpkin).
To the most beautiful blonde of Tomorrowland, I first saw you at the Main Stage where you took my Desperados ring. I would like it back. Perhaps tonight at the same spot? From the boy with the blue t-shirt SMR07-001_smirnoff_house_ad_FINAL_27.pdf

Let Spa refresh you It has been a hot and sweaty weekend so far. If the sun’s becoming a bit too much for you, you could take a seat in the shadows to cool off, or splash some water in your face at the refreshment points. But at DreamVille, Spa provides some much needed relief from the heat in a more creative way. Once you’ve entered the Spa Splash Bar, it’s up to you to fulfill a task that’s not too difficult at first sight. Push the right buttons at the right time. If you mess up, a water balloon shoots out of a cannon and hits you right in the face! A challenge for the mind and a unique way to get a revitalizing dose of water on those sunburns. The face you make seconds before and after the hit can be shared online for your friends to laugh at. Are you up for the challenge?
Cheers! Here’s to the 10th anniversary of Tomorrowland. As you probably expected, the stages are looking stunning again this year. But the view’s way better from above, of course. In the middle of the arena before the mainstage, there’s ‘Bubbles with a view’, the exclusive VIP deck by Vallformorsa. In this special establishment, the possibility to toast to Tomorrowland is offered. The glasses are filled with Vallformorsa’s unique and luxurious cava, a sparkling cider. The winery also supports charity. Every bottle has one of six special caps, designed with the logos of foundations who focus on battling cancer. That’s why Vallformorsas motto is ‘Sip beautifully, act responsibly’.
Who’s the grillest of them all?
This year Lidl was looking for masterchefs. Not in the kitchen, but behind the barbecue. You could win a ride in a helicopter, flying above Tomorrowland. All you had to do was to take a picture of yourself at the special BBQ area, with your favorite cooking tools and ‘cue on fire. If you shared it with #Grillmeister, that ride could have been yours! “Well, bring it on!” @el_inho from Twitter must have thought. An enthusiastic picture earned him and his friend yesterday’s title. And guess what? They will be boarding the helicopter this afternoon, alongside the winners of yesterday and Friday. To all the winning Grillmeisters: please come to the main entrance at 3pm – that’s near the info point with the books on top.

MUSICAL MADNESS The official 10 years of Tomorrowland compilation
The most constant force behind Tomorrowland is music. Music in all its forms, shapes, genres and emotions. The People of Tomorrow, together with all the excellent artists and passionate crew, give off a musical signal to the world. ‘This is our passion. This is what unites us. We are one. We are music.’ This dedication to music shown over the past decades is now captured on the official Tomorrowland compilation, to be released this summer. Three CDs full of the most powerful sounds the world has ever heard, created by legends Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, Hardwell, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Steve Aoki and Yves V. The DJ mixes by these headliners are of the highest quality. That goes for sound and mixing,
as well as containing the magic found at Tomorrowland. Over the past weeks you, the People of Tomorrow, could submit the track that reminds you of the madness the most via the world wide web. And you did, in huge numbers! The 20 submissions that received the most support have been put together on disc 3 of the Tomorrowland compilation. A CD for you, by you. The deluxe edition, as shown on the picture, will be sent over to ten lucky voters. It not only contains three CDs, but also a beautifully printed overview of the past ten years of madness. Radio Ultra Modern
Forma.T
This techno producer from England is also known as ‘the Baron of Techno’. From the start of his career onwards, he has always amazed crowds and colleagues with his feeling for rhythm and unique DJ skills. He has his own radio show on one of Holland’s biggest radio stations and did an unprecedented collaboration with a symphony orchestra. Enough reasons to let him decide what’s happening on the second biggest stage today. And his plans are promising. He invited Green Velvet, Paul Kalkbrenner will be doing a live performance, and Dave himself closes the area. See you at the Opera stage, number 1 on the map!
The relatively small stage in the large lake, marked ‘Grand Theatre’, is called Radio Ultra Modern. It’s pretty hard to explain what genres they play. Nothing is off-limits for this open-air stage, nothing! The atmosphere and energy they create is so unique that in order to understand it, you have experience it yourself. Their sound is groovy and infectious. Make sure to wear your happy pants and dancing shoes when you pay them a visit, as standing still is no option. This stage probably offers the most varied array of music and entertainment of all of Tomorrowland. Prepare to go crazy at area 5!

They always welcome amazing artists to the electronic scene and in the past, they have displayed an uncanny ability to discover future stars. This weekend they’ll do this at their own stage at Tomorrowland. Forma.T can be found at area 10.

A fresh start with AN21 & Max Vangeli For those who like to focus on the music deeply, this year, each day of the festival will begin with a daybreak session. One (or two) artists with three hours to fill at the Mainstage: that’s the recipe for a musical start of the day. Today you will be welcomed by none other than AN21 & Max Vangeli.
JULY 27TH 2014
From Moldova to Miami, the world is now the stage that has been set for Max Vangeli’s momentous musical footsteps. Described by MTV as ‘one of the most promising artists for 2011’, he has exceeded all expectations in his ascension to the high end of international house music, playing the finest venues across the globe. His and his partner AN21’s 2012 debut album, featuring collaborations with the likes of Steve Angello and Tiësto, is enough to indicate that with so much momentum already behind them, there is little stopping these masters of emotive house anthems. On the same page, AN21 can boast of an extended line of
brotherhood to the formidable Size Records clan, and has invariably let passion lead the way for his musical legacy. Balancing the realms of hunting for talents and producing & playing visionary house himself, a remarkable array of melodic peak time anthems have helped establish this immaculate Swedish musician as an outstanding leader of the global house explosion. AN21 & Max Vangeli have been proving the principle that one plus one is more than two for years, and if anyone is able to take Tomorrowland on a diverse musical journey, it’s them!

Seth Troxler FOCUS ON GLORIOUS SUNDAY Dave Clarke 15:30 - 17:30 are just grabbing onto the feeling of the ‘90s, which is cool for sure! But again, do people who say PLUR all the time really live up to the meaning of the term?”
There are quite a few things Seth Troxler is known for. He’s one of the founders of the Visionquest empire, a great musical engineer who does not shy away from giving his views on the music business. Next to all of that, he owns a restaurant in London and is a distinguished chef himself, having won the DJ cook-off at the Amsterdam Dance Event multiple times in a row. Let’s see what Seth’s cooking up for Tomorrowland!
Seth’s a busy guy. Next to touring the globe spreading his unique take on what house should sound like, he can be found in the kitchen quite often. The fact that he has won the ADE DJ Cook-off a few times in a row isn’t really surprising. He owns his own restaurant in London, called Smokey Tails. Guests can choose from a wide variety of food inspired by the American style BBQ. “My fascination with food isn’t that complicated to explain really. I just very much like to eat. I’ve always been a fan of the American style BBQ.” As far as his famous imprint Visionquest goes, Seth’s concentrating on his own project now. “The other guys have taken the label to new heights, made it even better than it already was. I’m still connected, but my involvement is down to a minimum.”
Seth has been in the news quite a lot lately. With his cooking skills at the Amsterdam Dance Event, and recently as criticaster of the modern festivals and rave culture. Still, he’ll be rocking on Tomorrowland this weekend. Apparently a contradiction, but Seth has his reasons. “The thing I don’t like about EDM is that’s it’s full of people in it for the money nowadays. Even though I’ve been critical of so-called EDM, I like the guys of ID&T, of Tomorrowland. Why? They put the money they earn with the festival back into the festival itself, so that the experience is better next year. That’s something I can respect. They’re not in it to get rich, like some major players in the States. They program a huge variety in music. It’s not just a stage on a parking lot, it’s a complete experience.”
“Tomorrowland puts back the money they earn, to make the festival even better next year.”
The main difference between the scene in the States and the scene in Europe comes down to the legacy, Seth says. “As far as dance culture goes, in Europe it’s really an integrated part of the culture of an area or a country. In the States it’s all new, all mainstream. It just doesn’t have the history yet of England, Holland or Belgium for that matter.” Playing at Tomorrowland, he tries to explain the magic of the festival. “It mainly comes down to the gargantuan production itself. It’s by far the best-produced dance festival in the world. I mean, just look at the mainstage they put together every year again!” Today, let’s show Seth together that the People of Tomorrow know what PLUR really means!
The concept of PLUR is another thing Seth has given his opinion about lately. “There’s absolutely nothing wrong with PLUR itself, really. But you could wonder if people nowadays actually follow the original principles of peace, love, unity and respect. My fans do love PLUR, and that’s awesome. It just seems that something that should be common sense now has become a ‘thing’. It’s nothing new really, it has been around for ages. The kandi kids

to take Europe by storm, as they did in America. With Krewella, the electronic genres have gained extra momentum amongst the younger generations. Thanks to the amazing trio from the famous city of Chicago, a voice with a positive message has been added to dance music at large. They

Paul KalkbrenneR
Alle Farben
Redfoo
As a boy, only twelve years old, Paul watched the fall of the infamous Berlin wall. East Berlin became a place where the youth, who had been oppressed for so long, could revel in their newfound freedom in sometimes anarchistic ways. Techno quickly became one of the major ways for them to express and lose themselves; it became a break from reality. A way to escape the world we live in, that’s what Paul can provide you with through his touching tunes. He’s not just a DJ, he’s an artist and an actor as well; his fame rose to great heights after his lead role in the 2008 film Berlin Calling. Behind the decks, he takes you on a journey through space, time and yourself by experimenting with all kinds of beats. And when he’s not busy making music, you can probably find him at Bayern Munich, watching the games.
Frans Zimmer gets even the most reserved people on the floor to move their hips, under his moniker Alle Farben (which means ‘all colours’ in German). Just like he crosses borders to play everywhere in the world, he musically crosses genres and has developed a style of his own. His Synesthesia album captures that musical diversity. Frans didn’t only use his laptop to produce this masterpiece, but also carefully selected live musicians to contribute. Vocals on Synesthesia were done by renowned singers like Graham Candy and Sway Clarke II. The album marked a milestone in the eight years Alle Farben has been around. Another was the memorable performance Frans gave at the former Tempelhof Airport in early 2013, with close to 35,000 people in front of him. Alle Farben is quickly becoming a bright new star within the realm of dance music, and Tomorrowland welcomes him with open arms.
He may say that he’s ‘sorry for party rocking’, but Redfoo isn’t sorry at all. Part of the infamous LMFAO, which you’ll probably know because of their worldwide hit I’m in Miami, B*tch!, Redfoo has an endless energy which especially flourishes on stage, together with you, his fellow party-rockers. When he’s not on stage blasting away, he can be found in his studio at home all the time. This tireless dedication to the music placed him in the spotlight of some major artists. He has already collaborated with David Guetta, the Black Eyed Peas, Lil’ John and Pitbull. In 2010, LMFAO’s debut album Party Rock was even nominated for a Grammy in the ‘Best Electronic/Dance Album’ category. Are you ready for Redfoo? He sure is ready for you, with a bunch of tequila shots, smashing tunes and bottles of premium vodka always at hand.

Smash the House 14:00 He recently got signed by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike at Smash the House Recordings, and it’s his fourth time playing at Tomorrowland. He has headlined Summer Festival, Daydream, Replay Festival, Super Sonic and more. With releases on Spinnin, Oxygen, Mixmash & OTW, and collaborations with Blasterjaxx and Ziggy, he takes his audience from the best big room house to the more underground progressive sounds of the early days, and back again. In the studio he’s always searching for a new shape or form

Fresh, no nonsense, full of energy, eager to entertain, confident in his musical abilities. If you weren’t keeping an eye out for him before, you should be from now on. Cause this one’s going to get big, bigger, biggest!
Wolfpack
Smash the House 23:00 Sometimes everything just falls into place. For the Belgian duo Wolfpack, that moment occurred during their debut at Tomorrowland in 2011. With a smashing set they swept Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike off their feet, leaving them wondering where the hell these two guys came from. It didn’t really matter, ‘cause as soon as they could, Dimitri & Mike signed up Wolfpack on their own imprint Smash the House. Two years later, and
Wolfpack is still going as strong as at that special first performance. They’ve released club hits like Rising Moon and Miracle, and even collaborated on the TomorrowWorld anthem Ocarina with their guardian angels Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. They’re most definitely here to stay, so why don’t you join the Wolfpack as well?

There are few words that are sufficient to describe Franky Jones. He has been around for over almost three decades, spreading his message of love through fast beats with relentless passion. His broad musical taste ranges from disco to new wave and new beat from the early ‘80s to house and techno. Getting his inspiration from artists like Prince, Depeche Mode, Run DMC and Kraftwerk, Jones guides you to the outer edges of the musical universe. Nicky Romero Mainstage 18:00
Alongside the likes of Armin, Tiësto and Hardwell, Nicky Romero is one of the finest examples of Dutch innovation, grandeur and musicality we’ve seen the last decade or so. If at all, his sound could be described as a sensual mix of progressive house with hints of electro and acid. With David Guetta as his mentor, Nicky has grown from spinning house and R&B in his early years to headlining the biggest stages in the world and producing some of the biggest hits the
world has ever heard. He now runs his very own Protocol label, lending his insights to Nilson and Tony Romera, among others. In an era where everybody can be a DJ, there can be only one Nicky Romero. With or without his famous Anonymous mask, Nicky has stolen our hearts. And eardrums. And feet. You can show Nicky what’s his at the mainstage this afternoon.

2012
how Tomorrow came to last a decade When the domains of de Schorre, Boom, Belgium first came to life with a flurry of festival stages and dance devotees, the event’s moniker was oddly prophetic: Tomorrowland. The future held more than one tomorrow for the newly born land, and has until now graced us with ten editions – ten years – of the world’s most magical festival. How did Tomorrowland come to be, and whence comes its allure? This weekend, the final pages of each TML Today are dedicated to our origins. Every day, a different period of Tomorrowland’s history will be chronicled. In this final installment the stories of 2012 and 2013 are told.
2012: Still THE BEST THERE was
2012
In the wake of the previous year’s aftermovie, which had been viewed tens of millions of times on Youtube, it turned out that Tomorrowland’s popularity hadn’t nearly reached its peak yet. There were signals that enthusiasm from abroad had skyrocketed, so an exclusively Belgian presale was launched. In doing so, a balanced mix of loyal locals and newcomers from far away was retained – even in the face of the wave of 2 million people who tried to order tickets worldwide. The unfortunate fate of the fans who were excluded, as well as the glowing reviews of 2011’s aftermovie, led to the inception of Tomorrowland TV. That way, the magic of Tomorrow would be able to flow from De Schorre to the remotest corners of the world – live through Youtube. With a little under two hundred thousand visitors and eight million viewers, Tomorrowland was quite possibly the best-visited festival in history. Those are just numbers, however. Taking home the ‘Best Festival’ IDMA had given everyone behind the screens a confidence boost, and the challenge was on to surpass last year’s performance.
29 TOMORROWLAND TODAY 2014
DE SCHORRE BOOM BELGIUM
Now that the People of Tomorrow were well and truly aware that it was they, themselves, that made the magic, it was time to give them single focus. Tomorrowland had always had a strong vision behind décor design, of course, but from 2012 onwards all would be captured in a single theme. The Book of Wisdom was this year’s moniker and of course, the mainstage reflected that. A bookshelf of unimaginable proportions supported the Book of Wisdom and also housed its keepers. Lusting for Tomorrow more than ever before, the DJs were as eager to perform as the crowd was to dance. The churning mass of people in the pit before the podium had, within a few short years, become a familiar sight. No longer amazed, although still delighted at that grand spectacle, the audience collectively decided to recreate it at other stages, too. One highlight was Richie Hawtin’s ENTER tunnel of LED effects – besides David Guetta’s two-hour mainstage extravaganza, of course. The Book of Wisdom proved that last year’s IDMA had been welldeserved – and so received the award again!

2013: THE MAGIC OF LIFE Life always finds a way. At Tomorrowland 2013, it was sown by a volcano whose ashes fertilized and infused De Schorre’s soil with happiness, and the festival’s ninth edition was aptly called The Arising of Life. In the mainstage lived the Spirit of the Mountain, who spoke benevolently to her people; elsewhere, an enormous butterfly spread its wings over fans of Carl Cox, Laidback Luke and Dave Clarke throughout the weekend. In its regular, somewhat secluded area, Q-dance had struck up camp with an exceptionally beautiful stage, a scorpion just as mean as the imprint’s hardstyle kicks. And of course, the People of Tomorrow had been looking lively from the DreamVille Gathering’s very beginning. When on Saturday night, a meteorological mishap doused the festival in heavy rains, the magic of Tomorrow went into full effect. The better part of the mainstage crowd simply refused to leave as Armin van Buuren was – not for the first time – playing a masterful closing set. Along with life itself, a completely new stage had arisen from the waters of one of the grounds’ many lakes. Brought to life not by a creature, but by thousands of plants and flowers, its lush greens created an intimate
setting, inviting thousands to party their brains out. Like previous years, a lot of those people came from abroad, but this time many had booked through the extensive Global Journey programme. They came in by partyflight, bus or train and together, they made sure not a single hotel room in Antwerp, Mechelen and Brussels remained available. DreamVille had grown larger than ever as well, overtaking the festival itself in physical size. Saturday’s heavy showers had turned it into a veritable mud bath, but here too, the magic would not falter. Campers whose tents had succumbed to the rain simply slept elsewhere, and it turned out that a swampy path, an airbed and a running jump made for an excellent mudslide. One year before its tenth anniversary, the denizens of Tomorrowland were more intent on staying than ever. In order for more people from across the world to share in that magic, that ecstatic feeling, the step across the Atlantic was taken, and in September, TomorrowWorld began. Meanwhile in Europe, the anniversary edition of Tomorrowland, the best festival in the world, was eagerly awaited.
