People of Tomorrow,

THE WORLD’S GREATEST KINGDOM LIES IN WAIT What is more delightful than the magic of a melody? To hear the alternation of the notes, to see the space between them fill with tender harmony. To paint a once still barren world with colours, directions and heights before unheard. All those things are what you do when you write a piece of music. And as you know, dear friends, this year’s chapter in the tale of Tomorrow will be an exquisitely musical one. The secret song of your music box has led you to the very gates of Melodia; soon, it will be time to enter. A King awaits inside, a King who sings and plays and hums and dances and in so doing symphoniously

Campers & ravers,

READY, SET, GO!

Be sure to get your TML experience rolling smoothly from the start. Pitch your tent, make friends and eat well. This weekend will be legendary. And exhausting. So start it right away!

rules his subjects. He welcomes you, welcomes you amidst the people, the plants and animals of Melodia. And all of these inhabitants have one thing in common: they make music. Over the course of this weekend, you are asked to join them. Dance, jump and sing, and flood the skies with cheerful tones. Go ahead and listen to Melodia’s melodies, exchange chants and tunes with its inhabitants. The King will surely notice all you do, keeping track of all the hearts you touch, the songs you sing. And thus, under his harmonious supervision, we write the first chapter of the Kingdom – in music.

IT’S TIME FOR A NEW ADVENTURE The past year has arguably been the most eventful one in the history of Tomorrow. It started with a double Belgian edition: two weekends of madness, two weekends of The Key to Happiness. Not long after, it was time for TomorrowWorld again: a second chapter was added to The Arising of Life. Then, a few months ago, The Book of Wisdom received a soulful addition in Brazil, where Tomorrowland landed for the first time ever. Even after such a momentous year, Tomorrowland will not sit still. Time to start the story of The Secret Kingdom of Melodia!

A KINGDOM UNITED

There are few places on the globe where people from all over come together peacefully and respectfully. But what if there were a land, carefully kept from the unrest and turmoil, the politics and power-play of the world out there? Could it be that there, with music to unite them and nothing to divide them, people could breathe, live and play in harmony? Luckily, a place like that has recently revealed itself. In the Secret Kingdom of Melodia, over two hundred different nationalities are expected to come together and unite as one. The People of Tomorrow, the Melodians, have come from far and wide in order to populate their Kingdom. Under

the auspices of the Global Journey programme, 18,934 travel packages have been arranged. In an astonishing 165 flights and 31 train rides, travellers are taken from 71 different pickup locations to Melodia. Trains full of citizens-to-be arrive from London, Paris, Düsseldorf, Köln (Cologne) and Amsterdam. Airplanes, some of them equipped with a DJ and soundsystem, come in from places too numerous to sum up. Of course, once Melodia’s multicultural population arrives, they need a place to stay. Those unable to make it to DreamVille are placed in one of 50 hotels booked through Global Journey in the AntwerpBrussels area. Some 700 Global

Journeyers are even luckier than the others; they’ve booked a Discover Europe package, which includes all of the Global Journey amenities plus an exclusive Tomorrowland-themed trip through Europe’s greatest cities. Meanwhile, today in Brussels, Global as well as Belgian Melodians get together for a day full of bonding activities. Among other things, the flags of the attendees’ home countries will be sown together into one big Unity Flag. Once all is said and done, and everyone’s settled at either DreamVille or their hotel, tomorrow, the gates of Melodia will open – and we’ll all be a single nation.

TAKE IT TO THE BRIDGE Belgium

Last year, to honour the 10-year anniversary of Tomorrowland, Belgian artistWitness Arne Quinze created the ‘One World, by the People MAGICAL FRIDAY of Tomorrow’ art installation at De Schorre. of Tomorrowland in 2014, and has been put into operation as a wonderful bike and foot path for visitors of De Schorre throughout the year. However, if you thought that the bridge was finished last year, you’ll be surprised to see the immense statue that Arne Quinze has built in its centre this year. It’s a massive 25-meter installation, inspired by the image of the Nikè of Samotraché. Representing freedom and victory, Nikè is a proper guardian to the People of Tomorrow.

WHAT’S APPENING? To help you navigate the web of DJs and stages, Tomorrowland has yet again developed a handy app for your smartphone. Check out the latest news, use the map to flutter between stages, stay in contact with your friends and take some cool Tomorrowland-styled pics. The app will keep you updated about all that’s happening on and around the festival site and the DreamVille camping. It’s the ultimate guide to get you through the festival and also works as a useful tool to unlock the many fun secrets Tomorrowland has to offer. Download the app through the Tomorrowland website or in the Play or App store.

Did you know that Duvel is the Flemish word for ‘devil’? Or that Brugse Zot means ‘moron from Bruges’ in English? Both are brands of Belgian beer. When thinking of Belgium, people abroad often have the tendency to mention waffles, fries and Tomorrowland. But make no mistake: the first and foremost delicacy that Belgians are proud of is their huge range of beers! Having been around for centuries, some of them are truly among the world’s finest. A carefully handpicked selection of the beers we are so proud of will be offered at the Belgian Beer Café. This pub with exclusive Belgian beers can be found by the foodcourts on top of the Mainstage hill. And this year you’re not only able to taste Belgican speciality beers, but you can also taste an assortment of Belgian cheese, selected by cheese chef Michel van Tricht. The chef himself will be at the Café everyday from 4 pm to 6 pm to showcase his selection of at least 8 Belgian cheeses for you.

FIVE COURSES FOR CHARITY For the third time in a row, critically acclaimed Dutch chef Sergio Herman will open up his hidden restaurant somewhere in the archways of the Mainstage. Twelve lucky gourmands will be offered a five-course all-star menu with matching wines, served in the most unique Tomorrowland setting imaginable. All profits collected by these exclusive tables will be given away to one of many charities. Tomorrowland provides the restaurant’s production, tucking it away in the enormous Mainstage, plus the costs of the food, while the chefs waive their fees and cook voluntarily. Last year festivalgoers contributed to charities like Sustainable Lab, Bridges for Music, Belgica, Pulderbos and more, and collected an astonishing total of 266,000 euros! This year Sergio Herman has invited other renowned colleagues like Peter Goossens, Quique Dacosta and Kobe Desramaults to help him put together the finest dishes ever cooked on the festival grounds. We sure hope you’re hungry!

Welcome home!

getting to know the world without the hassle that travel can be. DreamVille houses people from all over the world, meaning you will have neighbours from Australia to Argentina, from Iceland to Indonesia and from South Africa to Slovenia. So after you’ve set up camp, why not invite your neighbours over for a drink to share some international DreamVille love?

THIS IS YOUR WAKE UP CALL!

Waking up is probably one of the most wellknown internationally shared struggles. Whether it’s because you partied a little too hard the night before, whether you were right in the middle of dreaming about your devilishly handsome neighbour or whether you just really, really love your bed; we know it’s not easy.

fetch you coffee. You will need the caffeine to kickstart the day. The sun is shining, so after a shower, you dress up in your summer’s best and get your shine on. You greet your neighbours, who were kind enough to bring you a croissant from the bakery. You chat for a while before you open up the Tomorrowland Today and decide on the acts you want to see today. Oh yes, life is good.

So what does a perfect morning consist of? It all starts with sleeping soundly, preferably snuggled up with someone worth dreaming of – as well as waking up next to. Then, as you roll over, a single good morning kiss is enough to signal your tent buddy to venture out and

Does this all sound too good to be true? Let’s face it; you’re now waking up on DreamVille grounds, which means a Kingdom of music, food, beautiful people and summer loving awaits. Now waking up doesn’t sound like such a bad idea anymore, does it?

And once you’ve made new friends, DreamVille has all the facilities you would expect from a camping, and then some. From a fresh bakery to actual BBQ areas, there are plenty of opportunities to make you feel right at home. After a good night of sleep, all you need to do is find someone who will bring you and your teddy bear a fresh cup of coffee in the morning – only to let the magic of DreamVille further enrapture you.

YOUR BREAKFAST IN THIS SPACE?

A good breakfast is the best way to start your day. Do you feast on a luxurious (homemade) breakfast every morning and do you want to share your specialties with the rest of the world? Shoot us a message at today@tomorrowland.com and invite our reporters over for breakfast tomorrow morning. We’ll gladly join, and you can tell us all about your breakfast and your weekend in general – and end up in the paper!

PITCH IT PROPERLY

Even though the nights are long at Tomorrowland, you won’t rest easily before you’ve set up your tent. Here are tips on how to pitch your canvas palace and handle other DreamVille matters, so that every time you crawl into your sleeping bag it feels just like home. 1. Set up your tent immediately! Don’t wait, because soon you’ll be high in the sky enjoying everything Tomorrowland has to offer. And pitching a tent is a lot harder with your head in the clouds. 2. Bring flags, inflatable swimming pools, sombreros, party tents and other attributes to build the most gorgeous little village within all of DreamVille.

3. Be safe, and lock your castle with padlocks. This keeps out the evil elves who sometimes roam around the area, looking for valuables to take. In addition, store your most precious belongings in a locker. 4. In case of budding love, pay attention to your neighbours and yourself. If you’re not planning on making a Melodia baby, use protection! As for your neighbours, some of them might want to get some rest during the night. 5. Be prepared for a water fight. When everyone is hot and sweaty, there’s no better possible relief than that. 6. And don’t forget to simply enjoy the camping life!

9

DreamVille is open from Thursday 23 July until Monday 27 July. Check-in hours are as follows: Thursday 11h00 - 00h00, Friday 00h00 - 22h00, Saturday 10h00 - 15h00. Check-in is not possible on Sunday. Check-out is possible at all times until Monday 27th of July at 14h00. Everyone must leave DreamVille before 14h00. No exceptions! For the opening hours of Tomorrowland, see the timetables on pages 34-38.

Lost and Found

Items found on DreamVille are taken to the regular Lost & Found stand on the festival. It can be found at the info stand with the big globe on top, between day entrance and Opera stage.

Remember your spot

Before you leave, remember your camping colour! You’ll be able to find your Kingdom back that much more easily.

A HAPPY PLANET Belgium

Tomorrow is a mystery – but to keep the surprise a happy one, it is our responsibility to take care. A healthy planet nurtures happy people, and isn’t that what we’re here for?

Witness Tomorrowland takes great pride in MAGICAL FRIDAY being as planet-friendly as it can be, because together, we can make The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Near the Marketplace, the Love Tomorrow Recycle Club is where you want to turn in your recycled materials. In return, you receive stamps, and after completion of your stamp card you are eligible for some great prizes. These include – wait for it – the first official tickets to Tomorrowland 2016! Now if that doesn’t make you want to take care of a healthier, happier tomorrow, we don’t know what will.

RULE THE BBQ Want to be the gourmet chef everyone talks about at DreamVille? Take your barbecue skills to the next level with these delicious (and easy) recipes and make your DreamVille neighbours drool with jealousy. Or be the generous person we know you are, and share your mouth-watering creations with those around you. The professional barbecues set up at the campsite make it almost too easy.

RECIPE 1: BADASS BURGER

Nothing better than a delicious, juicy burger to sink your teeth into. Even more so if you upgrade your burger to one of the badass variants below! Guacamole. Forget ketchup and mayonnaise and surprise yourself with a big scoop of the green gold. Be sure to spice your guacamole with some jalapeño peppers to really make it pop. Chorizo. A burger with meat on top of meat, isn’t that sweet? Cover your burger in a couple slices of chorizo to give it more bite and richer flavours. It doesn’t add any difficulty to the grilling, either. Just put the chorizo on your burger when it’s almost finished and enjoy! Nachos. Who doesn’t love nachos? Tell you what: they’re even more delicious on top of a burger. Top your burger with crushed nacho chips, cheese sauce, jalapeño’s and salsa. Close your eyes and enjoy the crispy bite.

RECIPE 2: BANANA BOAT

A good barbecue needs a dessert. This extremely easy and delicious recipe has three important things: vitamins from the bananas, and marshmallows and chocolate because they’re delicious. • Cut each banana lengthwise but not all the way through. • Leave the skin on (do not peel). • Put 1-2 tsp each of marshmallows and chocolate chips in the slit. • Sprinkle lightly with brown sugar. • Wrap tightly in foil, making sure to seal the ends. • Place the whole on grill, over campfire or coals, slit side up. • After about 7 minutes, your banana boat is done!

TOMORROWLAND TODAY Wake up with your daily dose of news, interviews and info delivered right to your doorstep! Our TML Today mailmen (and women) hand out copies every morning on Dreamville. MAGICAL FRIDAY

The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN! The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.

So you’re all settled in your tent and you’ve met your DreamVille neighbours. Like back in the day when camping was something you did with classmates, you need some games to break the ice and have a little fun. Here are some ideas for playtime. Who am I? How it works: Everyone thinks of a person (a celeb, or if the people you’re playing the game with are all friends of yours, you could choose someone else you all know) and writes his/her name on a piece of paper. Everyone blindly sticks a name to their own forehead. Now, the guessing game can begin: you take turns asking questions. You’re only allowed to ask questions that can be answered with ‘yes’ or ‘no’. The first to correctly guess their own identity is obviously the winner, but the game is not completed until everyone’s figured out who they are. Draw it First, make a written collection of objects to draw from. In pairs, one picks a slip with the drawing assignment while the other one guesses. You get a set amount of time (i.e. max 3 minutes) per game, and then it’s the next team’s turn. The quicker you guess, the more cards you can draw in the set time frame. 20 Questions In ‘twenty questions’, you think of a thing and write it down on a piece of paper – just don’t show it to anyone. You can play this in teams, pairs or individually. Either your teammates or the group as a whole then takes turns asking questions that can be answered with ‘yes’ or ‘no’, such as ‘is it bigger than ...’, ‘can you carry it’, ‘is it edible’, etc. After twenty questions, you have to guess the object that the person had written down. You are, of course, allowed to guess earlier on, but if you guess wrong, you’re expelled from the game. If your guess at twenty is incorrect, the answerer has won the game. Pantyhose game You’ll you need pantyhose for every team, a tennis ball, and bottles or cans. Put the tennis ball in the foot of the pantyhose and put the crotch part over your head as if you’re a failure of a bank robber. Yes, you feel ridiculous, and to be fair, you look ridiculous as well. The ball has to be up high enough to dangle at about knee-height. Now, put a row

11

of empty – or filled for some more fun – bottles or cans on the ground. Your mission is to topple the bottles with the ball, using the pantyhose attached to your face – but you can’t touch it with your hands or knees! Time the players in every team, the fastest team wins. (And don’t forget to send us the pictures at today@tomorrowland.com!) Hide and seek Admit it, you can never grow too old for this game. Just try not to fall over any tent lines or pegs, and remember to knock before using someone else’s tent to hide in. Two truths, one lie This is a great introduction game when you’re trying to break the ice with new friends and neighbours, as well as a good test to see how well you know your friends. ‘Two truths, one lie’ is exactly that: everybody thinks of two things that are true about themselves and one thing that isn’t. The crazier, the better. It is then up to the rest of the group to guess which one is the lie. Example: I saved a life once, I’ve been arrested twice and my first job was abroad. Only one of them isn’t true…. I have never A game commonly played as an icebreaker in summer camps, this one is also known as a drinking game. One person tells the group something they have never done (‘I have never…’). The rest of the group takes a sip when, unlike the ‘player’, they have in fact done the mentioned thing before. Then the next person takes their turn in sharing something they’ve never done before. Are your friends as adventurous as you thought? Truth or dare Another great game to play with both new as well as old friends, ‘truth or dare’ gives you the option to answer a question in truth, or go on a dare. You can make this game as edgy, intimate or as funny as you want, and use it to find out all of your camping buddies’ dirty secrets.

Cashless the simple way to pay Follow these easy steps to buy anything you want This year, for the first time ever, Tomorrowland is completely cashless. The only thing you’ll need is your bracelet. Curious to find out how to obtain food and drinks, for example, without tokens or cash? Just follow these easy steps to your first drink or meal.

1

Put your bracelet on your right arm. The bracelet isn’t only crucial to enter the festival venue; from this moment on you’ll need it to pay for everything on Tomorrowland and DreamVille. There’s no need to stress about losing your tokens anymore.

2

If you haven’t already upgraded your bracelet from home, the Top Up stands are where you have to be. You can find them on DreamVille as well as Tomorrowland. You can pay cash, or with the magic moneycard in your wallet. The minimum amount is E20,-.

3 4

Follow your nose to the food and drink stands. Pick something you like, order, and scan your bracelet. Your Pearls will disappear, but they’ll get you burgers and beer! Still have Pearls left at the end of Tomorrowland? No worries, you can change them back to the currency of your choice. If you’ve used your credit card to buy Pearls online beforehand, you’ll get your money back automatically. If you paid cash, with your debit card, or with a credit card at the festival itself, simply fill out the online form which will be available after the festivities.

19

Pearls the Tomorrowland currency At Tomorrowland, ‘Pearls’ are the official currency. The exchange rate for Pearls is: 13 Pearls for E20,-.

Now the festival has become something like a mini-UN, or maybe an edition of the Olympic games where everyone wins a gold medal. It’s surreal to see all those people show up to Boom now.” According to the brothers, the One World bridge which was built to commemorate the festival’s tenth anniversary last year is meant to symbolize the Tomorrowland generation. “It’s a strong and positive signal,” Michiel Beers thinks. “The most outstanding thing about the festival is, after all, the people themselves.”

“Tomorrowland demonstrates that it is possible to live and experience a weekend together, with tens of thousands of people, in a peaceful way and with respect for each other.”

With a ceremony in the festival’s signature style, the panel with the UN’s message was unveiled. “An little angel’s come down from heaven!” Ban Kimoon can only barely suppress a jump of joy when a Tomorrowland fairy shows up to do the honours. “I think this is the best he’s amused himself during any assignment over the past few years,” one of his employees can be heard saying towards the end of the proceedings.

SHARE THE LOVE BY LIVESTREAM Is it really possible to tell your friends at home about the experience of rocking your brains out front row at the Opera stage? Or what a mystical feeling the decorations on the Tomorrowland venue can give? They’re really hard to explain, right? Well, there is a solution! Tell your friends at home about Tomorrowland TV and they can be as close as possible to the festivities, watching on their own screens. They can tune in at the Tomorrowland Youtube channel to get live coverage of the biggest acts and craziest moments, and they can see for themselves why they should come along next year.

PROTECT YOUR HEARING Music is one of the most wonderful things in the worl, especially when there’s as much of it around as in Melodia. In order to keep enjoying music later, ear protection is an absolute necessity. Tomorrowland has prolonged its succesful collaboration with BLOX, and their Tomorrowland-themed music earplugs are available at the day entrance info stand as well as in the Fashion shops. Prices range from as little as 3 to 20 euros - money well spent for a lifetime of enjoying music.

HANG OUT IN THE CLOUDS WITH YOUR MATES! Make your way to the back of the Opera Stage and get ready for the ride of your life when you take a spin on the 55-metre tall Brussels Airlines Cloud Rider. We promise you that the view from the top is absolutely incredible!

GLOBETROTTING STATUETTES Thousand years from now, archaeologists might dig up a collection of strange ceramic statues in Ghent (Belgium) and break their heads over the questions ‘What is this, who made them and... why?’ When they get to the bottom of the internet archives, they might find some answers. Traces of the mysterious artist who made these statues, for instance: Art for Thought (AFt), a man who lives in Ghent. His everyday job has nothing to do with art, but it did inspire the artist to leave a trace in cities all over the world.

AFt works with ugly little statues that usually swarm the houses of old people. They are so kitschy it hurts to look at them. AFt finds them on flea markets or receives

23

them from people who want to get rid of their hideous creatures. At home he cuts pieces out of the statues, adds some accessories, paints them, slaps on a few wise words... And when they are finished, he gives them back their freedom. They are put in the streets where they go their own way. Over the years they have been found in Ghent, Paris, Berlin, Birmingham, Perpignan, Compiègne, Ronse, Bangkok, Glasgow, Dublin, Nantes and elsewhere. Some have travelled all the way to South Africa or the United States. They are everywhere... and in Tomorrowland! Street art can bring you to new places, that is for sure. AFt’s little statues like to dance at the world’s best music festival where they surprise the visitors. So go find them and act surprised!

A BRAZILIAN ADVENTURE

TO BELGIAN PEOPLE, IT’S AN ADULT EFTELING. TO THE AMERICANS, A DANCE-FUELED DISNEYLAND. AND TO BRAZILIANS? CARNIVAL! T

omorrowland’s yearly excursion to Atlanta has by now become a well-known phenomenon. For the second time last year, the Chattahoochee Hills overflowed with magic and joy. It was time to continue growing, and last May, the story of Tomorrow spread to a whole new continent with Tomorrowland Brasil. 180,000 visitors made clear just how popular the festival is in that faraway land. Over 200 artists manned seven stages as a team of 400 Belgian people and 500 Brazilians brought The Book of Wisdom to São Paolo. After four days of exuberant celebration, a second edition was immediately announced: 21, 22, and 23 April 2016 is the date.

At Maeda Park, Itu, where Tomorrowland Brasil was held this spring, it looks like a party-

bomb has been dropped. Whereas the original Tomorrowland in Boom took quite a few years to grow to full stature, and the American edition had to do with some slight growing pains at first, their Brazilian counterpart was an instant hit. And it was mostly thanks to the Brazilians themselves, who made for an absolutely loony atmosphere and warmly embraced Tomorrowland.

Everyone in Maeda Park thought themselves king or queen of the carnival. With the

afternoon temperatures approaching 30 degrees (about 85º F), the dancefloor shook and trembled under the Brazilian public’s smoothly executed moves. They formed a surging sea of dancers all the way up to the Mainstage, where the iconic Book of Wisdom told the third chapter of its wonderful history. There’s no stage in the world that’s traveled as many miles by sea as this one.

BELGIAN FRIES IN ITU Just like back ‘home’, Tomorrowland Brasil served more than only exquisite beats. It was also a feast for the tongue. Visitors not only got a taste of Belgian fries, but also of a dessert developed by Callebaut chef Bertrand Busquet. Called ‘Planeta Amazonia’, it was a cream of uvaia (a tropical citrus fruit) and Callebaut Single Origin Brazil chocolate – with a twist. And speaking of liquor: it’s a myth that Brazilians only drink caipirinhas. They’ll take them as an appetizer for their BBQ (called ‘churrascaria’ over there), but they drink mostly beer otherwise: 200,000 litres of it were consumed. One half of Wolfpack, Antwerp-based Ruben Khaza, tells us about his Brazilian debut at the festival. “During that set I had goosebumps from start to end. I’ve never experienced that before. Every record we played was responded to as if it were a top hit.” The smallest piece of firework lighting up got the crowd cheering wildly, just like they do at the shows in Boom. But organizing a festival just by putting up some stages and setting off some sparklers wouldn’t be very impressive; the relocation of a whole world of ideas, a way of life even, to another culture is another story entirely. That’s why every new location for Tomorrowland is researched extensively. Finding the right location is key to longtime success when you want to recreate and cultivate this festival.

HOME MATCH São Paolo was also a bit of a guaranteed success, however. If there’s anything that’ll excite anyone from Brazil, it’s the miraculous fairytale world of Tomorrow. It’s a modern carnival. By the immediate announcement of next year’s edition, the organizing parties made clear that Tomorrowland is in Brazil to stay. In the long run, the Brazilian team will take over more and more from the Belgians, organizing and producing the festival locally. With that fact in mind, an enormous storehouse has been bought near Itu, so all of the decorations and stages will have a place to stay. For us, the festival came to an end in a conversation with a Brazilian guy not so lucky as ourselves. It was our hotel receptionist, who hadn’t been able to get tickets for Tomorrowland. “Of course I hope to be there next year,” he tells us. “But most of all I would love to go to Boom. That’s where the roots are. It’s so much more than a Brazilian festival – in Boom, the whole world comes together.” And then, in a somewhat trembling voice: “It is there that I once want to exchange thoughts and ideas, to dance and have fun with young people from other cultures.” Clearly, the grass is greener on the far side of the hill (or pond, in this case) – but one thing’s for certain: Tomorrowland Brasil was more than worthy of its name.

Bites Sometimes, you are just hungry and in need of a quick bite. Roll up to these food joints and order a snack; it’ll provide you with enough energy for the next couple of hours of jumping around.

TasteS of the WorlD At Tomorrowland, the DJs aren’t the only world class performers ready to rock your world. Across the whole festival, chefs from all over the world are working their own magic. It doesn’t take much to experience the gastronomical diversity of Tomorrowland. Sit down at one of the pleasant food stands and fuel your day with a salad, a steak, or anything in between.

Health Your body is a temple! Nurture it with fresh, healthy food and supershakes. Take some time to relax, close your eyes and cleanse your system with these healthy meals.

Craving a combination of vitamins, energy and liquids? Run over to the Fresh Fruit and Smoothies stand to give yourself a quick and well-deserved energy boost. Pick your own fruits and create your own delicious drink. The smile it’ll put on your face is on the house. Green is good! Walk into the Salad Bar, a haven for vegetarians and people who want to stay in shape. Grab a plate and taste the variety of vegetables, pastas and other specialties. Sweet, sexy, strawberry! Treat yourself to homegrown Belgian strawberries, prepared by famous dessert chef Roger Vandamme. These red berries are to die for, especially when they’ve been dipped in chocolate or whipped cream.

26

Be careful if you run into Belgian TV chef Wim Ballieu, because he just might start talking about his delicious (meat)balls. He stuffs them with all sorts of ingredients, even with truffles! Check out Wim and his curious passion at his Balls & Glory stand. Don’t skip dessert, it’s the most important meal of the day! Well, that might not be entirely true, but it sure is the most delicious one. You will find ice cream and waffle vendors selling special Tomorrowland ice cream at several locations on the venue. Traditionally, you can find the best burgers in town at the Burgerij. If you’re not sure where to look, it’s the stand that usually has a lot of people in front of it, waiting to receive their juicy burger from the sizzling hot grills.

Fresh Belgian fries from Swa & Marieke are world famous, in Belgium. After their big test last year, the official Tomorrowland Belgian Fries creators are back! Especially for visitors from abroad, Swa and Marieke’s fries are a must-try.

You don’t have to travel the world to experience the finest foods from all over the globe. Tomorrowland unites food as well as people. Let yourself go and don’t be afraid to try something new.

Luxury Whoever says you can’t enjoy a lavish meal at a festival, has never been to Tomorrowland. World famous chefs, top of the bill dishes and outlandish settings await you.

They say you eat with all your senses, and chef Peppe Giacomazza took that saying to the next level. His pasta paintings on a plate are not only a delicious mouthful, but look extraordinary as well. For the Italian food lovers, this is stand is an absolute must. If you really want the extra special Tomorrowland dining experience, book a table at the Secret Resto. Enjoy a surprising meal, created by a team of world famous chefs, inside the Mainstage! If you book a table, you automatically support the Love Tomorrow foundation and one other charity program that you can pick yourself. If you really want to submerge yourself into the traditional Belgian food culture, book a table at the Belgian Steak House. Take a seat and a deep breath, then enjoy a fresh Grimbergen beer alongside your steak and escape from the ongoing party into a Belgian meat oasis.

Gloriously healthy Asian food, that’s Umami in a nutshell. Based in Antwerp, this Japanese restaurant is famous for its healthy dishes and salads. It’s a tad luxurious, so take your time and really enjoy the distinctive Japanese flavours. Because of Tomorrowland Brasil’s enormous success, it was decided to bring Brazil to Tomorrowland. For the first time ever, it’s possible to feast on a Brazilian BBQ. Expect chef Kyku to feed you sizeable chunks of meat grilled to perfection. Every year, thousands of British party animals cross the English Channel to celebrate Tomorrowland. This year, they’re not alone. Their Fish and Chips have made it as well! Don’t hesitate to try this appetizing snack, made of fresh cod, fresh Belgian fries and tartar sauce which is made on-site.

MINUS

A WORD FROM

DVBBS

EDM veteran Richie Hawtin is here, and he’s bringing us a totally new mix of minimal techno at Belgium the Minus stage on Sunday. This Ontario-based THE-REPORTERS Witness electronic musician has been a leading proponent of MAGICAL FRIDAY minimal techno for nearly 20 years. He co-founded and launched both Plus 8 Records (1990) and The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. Check out this stage once and you’re a The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. lover forever. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the minimal present.

What’s up guys, this is Chris and Alex from DVBBS and we’re about to let you in on our personal Tomorrowland experience. We’ve got a really sick touring schedule through Europe at the moment and Tomorrowland is obviously a huge highlight. We’re playing in Italy, Ibiza and another festival in Spain the week before, so those will be some perfect opportunities to field check the latest tracks we’re excited about. Creating a tracklist that is appropriate for the Tomorrowland Mainstage is going to be tough, though, because this is THE moment that we really want to impress everyone. We want the perfect mixture of our own festival bangers as well as some tracks by other artists that we’re digging at the moment. Everyone in the game will be there, and it is no time for slacking. Ever since we started to DJ on this level, Tomorrowland has been at the top of the list of festivals that we wanted to play and when we got booked last year, that was insane. But this year it’s gonna be the Mainstage and that’ll probably exceed all of our expectations. Even though the slot we’re playing is in the afternoon, there’s always such a sick crowd at Tomorrowland and we’re going to give it our absolute all over there. Actually, because we like the Tomorrowland crowd so much, we’ve decided that we’re going to handpick one of you to come backstage with us for the gig and film everything with a GoPro. We’re all about showing our fans our gratitude and we couldn’t think of a better way to thank you! All in all guys, it’s going to be a show that we’ll definitely never forget, and if you’re there we’re pretty sure you’re not going to either. Get excited everyone, because Sunday is gonna be off the hook!

SMASH THE HOUSE Those who wish to truly understand the love relationship between Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Tomorrowland need to check out the stage of the Smash the House label, headed by the duo. It’s EDM at its very loudest: explosive, grand, pop, loaded with special effects. Be sure to mind the moshpits and excessive dancing this Sunday. And also mind the artists, including Benny Benassi, Fox Stevenson and Ummet Ozcan, with their wellknown discographies and loyal fans.

There’s no better way to encompass Q-dance’s notorious reputation than with their slogan “representing the harder styles in dance music.” Founded in 1999 by a few friends in the suburbs of Amsterdam, they’ve become the home of the genre known as hardstyle. Their expertise at delivering the dirtier, darker sides of EDM is well known and on Saturday they bring an outstanding line-up including Frontliner, Wildstylez, Psyko Punkz, Brennan Heart, Ran-D and Evil Activities.

30

The relatively small stage you stumble upon when you cruise down the bridge past the Rave Cave and the bamboo-decorated stage is called Radio Ultra Modern. The atmosphere and the energy created by their vibes are so unique you simply have to go and experience them yourself. RUM probably offers the most varied range of music of all of Tomorrowland’s stages. They’re there all weekend, so put on your happy pants and drop by when you can!

A CLASSIC CROSSOVER

PLAYLIST PREVIEW Hymn (Full) Energy 52 & Another Love Adagio for Strings (Unabridged) Children Lovers on the Sun Tremor

The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.

THIS YEAR ON SUNDAY, A TRULY REMARKABLE EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE AT TOMORROWLAND. AT THE OPERA STAGE, THE NATIONAL ORCHESTRA OF BELGIUM WILL PERFORM THEIR VERSION OF SOME OF THE BIGGEST HITS IN ELECTRONIC MUSIC. WE SPOKE WITH CONDUCTOR STEFAN BLUNIER ABOUT THIS PRESTIGIOUS PROJECT. How does the process of turning a dance hit into a classical music symphony start? “Well, first of all we made a mother track, which we used as a basis for the symphonic versions of the songs. After we did that we needed a ‘translator’, someone who could put the music on paper. Our musicians play from a music score after all. So someone needed to write down the notes for every song. Kevin Houben did that fantastically.” What was the most difficult about this project? “Dance tracks are musically not very complicated, but what makes them special is the buildup. The tension that’s in all of them is very interesting. To translate this onto paper and to create the same intensity as a DJ does was our biggest challenge.” Did this project change the way you look at electronic music? “Absolutely. Personally I’m more of a rock & roll guy, but of course I studied electronic music while I was preparing for this project. A lot of people say that making electronic music is simple, but I challenge them to try it once. It’s a lot like contemporary art. A lot of people say, “Oh I can do that as well.” I would like to see them try. It takes mastership. Try to create something that makes everybody goes crazy. There are only a few people who can do that and I admire them a lot.” What are the similarities, and differences, between a classical concert and a dance concert? What can the two learn from each other? “I have to admit that I’ve never been to a dance event, let alone a festival. I think the greatest similarity is that in both cases, people come together to experience the moment together. Whether you dance at a festival, or enjoy classical music sitting in silence, the way the audience experiences the music is the same everywhere.

The classical music scene can absolutely learn something from the outgoingness of the dance scene. The freedom of mind to invite us to perform here, at a dance festival, is incredible. The other way around, I invite everyone to listen to a complete classical symphony. Nowadays everything has to be quick, but try to really enjoy a complete concert. Reading a novel also takes more time than reading a comic book. I’m not judging anyone, but these are two different things.” How do you hope the audience will react? “The audience will react enthusiastically. I don’t hope they will, I trust they will. The musicians and myself will try our utmost best to transmit all the energy that’s in the music to the crowd. I’m positive that the people will even dance. We hope this will be one of the highlights of Tomorrowland.” Did you have any contact with the DJs about this project? How did they respond? “No, I did not have any contact with DJs. I hope some of them have the time to come and watch. I think that they, more than anyone else, will appreciate what we’ve done with their creations. I’m also looking forward to their feedback. Maybe they have some suggestions, things we’ve overlooked ourselves.” Do you think it would be positive if these genres would merge more often? Do you personally hope to do something similar more often? “Definitely. We could even go a lot further! Why not let a DJ perform live with a symphonic orchestra. We could integrate light projections or video-art. Why don’t we bring a piece of Tomorrowland to the music halls and do it the other way around? This is a positive story for both scenes. I often see music as a beautiful diamond. Every time you look at it from a different angle, it shines differently. That’s why I love the motto ‘music will unite us’. Music is one big collection of different genres and it unites artists,

These are only a few of the tracks the orchestra will play. Come and listen what else is in store!

whether they play the trumpet or are behind the turntables. Who knows what the future will bring, the sky is the limit.” What is your favourite song out of the ones you’ll be performing? “Tremor, by Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike and Martin Garrix.” This year, the National Orchestra of Belgium isn’t the only institute from the classical music scene that crosses over to Tomorrowland. Radio station Klara is coming to Tomorrowland as well! In the week prior to the festival, the classical music station has aired five shows and tried to find connections between classical and electronic music. In interviews with famous DJs and producers, Klara tries to build bridges between the old and the new. Tune in at 92.0 FM!

ROMEO BLANCO FOCUS ON THE GATHERING 22h00 - 23h00

Born and raised in a small village in the Flemish Kempen area, Nick Peeters has managed to make a career out of his passion. He’s played Tomorrowland and TomorrowWorld on three different continents and his career as a producer is about to take a turn skyward. Meet Romeo Blanco, who told us all about himself! First of all, tell us a bit about yourself. How did you first get acquainted with electronic music? “For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a passion for music. No one in my environment did anything with electronic music, though. Like many producers these days, my first contact with electronica was through the internet. When I first got online, I was suddenly able to delve into genres I’d never heard before. The very first electronic artist I got into was Daft Punk, accompanied by Frankie Knuckles’ early house records and Carl Cox’ rhythmic tracks. Through Chuckie and Hardwell’s early stuff I ended up at Axwell, Ingrosso, Steve Angello and Laidback Luke. When the former three joined forces as Swedish House Mafia and produced Leave the World Behind, I was sold. It was the first time listening to music gave me goosebumps. I’d started producing myself a year before, but this track gave me new insights, it has really coloured my production career. Ever since then I’ve made music with an emotional mindset and an addictive vibe meant to keep you listening. Recently I’ve also started making pop/rock/indie tracks for others as well as film and game soundtracks – I’ll be able to tell you more about that in the future.” A lot of your track titles, tour themes and of course the name Romeo are all about love. Why so? “My friends used to call me ‘White Romeo’, because I used to be very blond. And because a large portion of my days at school was spent chasing girls who’d stolen my

heart, haha. The overarching theme isn’t so much ‘love’ as it is ‘passion’, though. Passion drives us to do things no matter what others think, to fight for someone and to do the very best we can. My passion for music has driven me to push on no matter the setbacks. In short: what is life, and what is love, without passion!?” Your new track We’ll Be United is the first we’ve heard from you in a while. How did it come to be, and why the wait? “There have been some problems with a management whose primary concern was themselves in the past. Luckily, I’ve been able to find a management that’s on the same page as me, and I am able to use my creativity and make the music I like to hear again. With We’ll Be United, the first release since then, I primarily wanted to transfer the feeling you feel at Tomorrowland to the listener. The feeling of togetherness, no matter your skin colour, sexual preference or heritage.” In that case, we can probably expect a lot more from you in the future? “Yes! There’s loads of music coming up. I have at least five tracks ready to be released. There are tracks with emotional vocals as well as harder club tracks, and also collaborations with Amersy, Tom Swoon and StadiumX. Ultimately, though, release dates are set by the labels – which is making me consider starting my own label, so that I’ll be able to manage the release process more fluently.”

33

At Tomorrowland you’ve played The Gathering as well as the Mainstage. How do they compare? “The Tomorrowland crowd is without a doubt the greatest crowd in the world. The Gathering has its own charm. It’s the first party of the weekend and everyone is still fresh and sober and ready to go. Which is not to say that it’s better than the Mainstage; my first set there was the best experience of my life. The crowd took everything to the next level, it touched my heart every time they sang along. I have nothing but love for the People of Tomorrow.” And those aren’t the only places you’ve performed, obviously. Where else have you been? “Recently, Tomorrowland Brasil was an unforgettable experience. I’ve played at some of the prettiest places in the world before, though. Once I went to an island where there was only a club – no houses, no shops, nothing else. And you could only get there by boat, so it was surrounded by yachts. I’ve also had an unforgettable gig in Rio, on a starlit beach for ten thousand people. Just as I played my last track the sun came up. A magical moment! As for the future, I’m looking forward to tours in America, Asia and Indonesia. But TomorrowWorld is also an important yearly highlight!”

W&W FOCUS ON MAGICAL FRIDAY MAINSTAGE | 18h30 - 19h30

Dutch DJ duo W&W is a regular name at Tomorrowland. This year, the two will rock the Mainstage. We spoke to them about their shift in music style and playing at a big stage like Tomorrowland. While you are very popular worldwide, and perform on the biggest stages, you aren’t that well-known in the Netherlands. How did that happen? And do you have plans to become a household name in the Netherlands as well? “Well it was never a choice to become famous abroad first. It just happened, actually. Of course we would love to became a big household name in the Netherlands as well, but that’s really hard to accomplish since we’re playing everywhere around the world. We would have to focus completely on the Netherlands in order to become as popular there as we are in the rest of the world, and that’s not exactly the optimal thing to do.” Is a home match (well, almost) like Tomorrowland a special occasion for you? “Tomorrowland is always a special occasion, for every DJ, whether it’s close to home or not. It’s seen as one of the biggest festivals of the world and to be a headliner at such a stage is a huge honour for us. “ In the meantime, you’ve experienced quite a few Tomorrowlands already. What do you think of the festival and the way it has developed? “Incredible. If you look back at the editions in ’04, ‘05

and ’06 and you compare them to the aftermovie of last year, it’s mind-blowing to see how Tomorrowland has exploded. Besides that, Tomorrowland is miles ahead of the rest of the world in terms of creativity and they keep proving that with their stages and shows.” Where do you get the inspiration to deliver such energetic tracks time and again? Where does the ‘drive’ in your music come from? “With every track, we try to make as much impact as possible. We try to make a ‘big’ track every time. This sound works at big stages, like the Mainstage of Tomorrowland or Ultra Miami. About our drive, well that’s just there! And performing on big stages helps us to keep our fire burning of course.” With what kind of music did you grow up? And what kind of music do you like to listen to now, besides the music you make and play? “When we started buying and listening to music, I (Ward) bought a lot of CDs with collections of pop music. There were dance tracks on those CDs as well and that’s how I got interested in electronic music. We still listen to electronic music a lot, because it’s what we work with. But to be honest, if it comes to music, you can let us listen to almost every genre. There’s almost never something we really hate.”

35

Your music used to be a bit more tranceoriented than it is now. How or why did you make this transition? “We get this question a lot, and we see a lot of other DJs (like Tiësto) getting the same question as well, but the answer is actually really simple. We make music we like ourselves. The one moment we’re into trance, the next moment we dig bigroom a lot more. We make music with passion and love, and that’s the only way to make great tracks. If we make tracks because people expect it from us, all the fun disappears. And that’s what it’s all about.” What do you think of the current subgenres of mainstage house? Which direction will the scene go? “EDM is at an incredible peak at the moment, but as a sub-genre, bigroom house isn’t as big as it used to be. A lot of DJs are moving to more progressive music, and sometimes go way deeper. Take what DVBBS did with ‘Always’ as an example. All in all, we think the bigroom scene is still going strong. Guys like Blasterjaxx, Hardwell, DVBBS and others keep proving that time after time.”

FERRY CORSTEN FOCUS ON INCREDIBLE SATURDAY FULL ON | 22h30 - 23h45

Ferry Corsten is back at Tomorrowland for the third time with his own Full On Ferry stage. We spoke to the Dutch master of trance about Tomorrowland, his new EPs and the way his tracks come to exist. You’re hosting the Full On Ferry stage at Tomorrowland for the third time now. How did the collaboration start and how do you keep it interesting year after year? “After I played on the Main Stage for the first time in 2005, I often returned on different stages. In 2013 I got the offer for my own stage. I think the Full On concept fits perfectly at Tomorrowland, since it combines a lot of different genres, just like the festival as a whole. This way I keep it exciting. And to keep it really surprising, do a back-to-back set with each of my DJs.” Can you explain to us what the philosophy behind Full On is? Why the b2b sets, how do you pick your colleagues? “The idea for Full On came to me in 2007. I wanted to do something else than the usual long solo set or a lot of separate DJs. Together with my team we thought of the idea of doing b2b sets with different performers. The idea was to create a melting pot of genres. The result is really unique when I play together with someone who does house or ‘EDM’. They have to move towards my music a little bit, and I have to move a little bit towards their music. This creates a really cool vibe of different styles. And the dynamic atmosphere between the DJs is something the crowd takes over. “ What can you tell about you ‘Hello World’ EPseries? Why multiple EPs and no album? And why the title – does it symbolize a rebirth? “The Hello World EPs are born from the idea to do everything just a little bit differently. So instead of busting my ass off an entire year to make an album, I

chose to release a new EP three times a year, with four to six new tracks and mixes. My fans get a lot of Ferry Corsten music every four or five months, instead of once a year. So this way they don’t have to wait such a long time for the next load of music. Besides that, there’s a lot of diversity in my productions. Trance is the biggest chunk, of course, but once in a while I really enjoy taking a sidestep to electro or house. Nowadays, a lot of people label my single Punk as a trance record, but in my opinion it’s a 100% electro record and that’s the way it was meant to be when I released it. Basically, the EPs show multiple sides of me, and that’s exactly what I wanted. The EPs say, ‘Hello world, this is Ferry Corsten!’” How does your creative process work when you make these tracks, are you the quick ‘n dirty type or a perfectionist? Where do you get your inspiration and energy? “That differs for every track. On my new EP there’s a track called Homeward, which is based on the feeling I have when I return home after I’ve been travelling for a long time, when I get to see my family again. On the other hand, for Reborn I just felt like making a festival hit and it’s exactly with that mindset that I dove into the studio. Sometimes an idea comes to me in the studio, other times it’s on a plane or while I’m performing. The first 90% of a track are usually finished pretty fast. Then I can test it in clubs, but the last 10% usually takes a lot more time. Sometimes I’m lucky and it’s finished in a week or two, but there are times when it takes a lot longer. In that way you could definitely say that I’m a perfectionist.”

What do you think of the trance scene in the contemporary ‘EDM’ world? How do you think the scene will develop in the next few years? “The dance world is always spinning around. At the beginning, house was very popular, then (happy) hardcore became popular and after that trance was very big. For the past couple of years ‘bigroom’ has been incredibly popular and now we’re going back to house, while you can feel that trance is making a comeback as well. The younger festival attendants, especially in the USA, are discovering that there’s more than bigroom and constant climaxes. They’re starting to appreciate nice melodies as well. So, undoubtedly, trance will become the biggest thing in dance again. And after trance, another thing will take over just like it did in the past. I really hope, actually, that all genre distinctions will disappear and that the people who stick to one genre realize that every genre has its own charm. I can personally really enjoy good indie or deep house, even though I will hardly ever play that stuff out. But that’s because it doesn’t fit my style, not because I don’t like it.” A simple question; DJ’ing or producing – and why? “That’s actually a really hard question! I have to choose producing. After my DJ carreer I want to go into the studio fulltime and help young DJ talents, but bands as well.” Do you have new material you’ll be playing at Tomorrowland? “For sure! Hello World EP 3 is already in the making, so I’ll definitely test one or two new tracks at the Full On stage!”

BAKERMAT FOCUS ON GLORIOUS SUNDAY BAKERMAT & FRIENDS | 21h00 - 22h30

For the second year in a row, Dutch prodigy Bakermat is hosting his own stage. The young DJ joined us to talk about his album that’s coming soon, playing with a live band and what it’s like to host your own stage at Tomorrowland. 2015 is the second year that you’re hosting your own stage at Tomorrowland. How did this collaboration start? “I was looking for an international platform for this new movement in dance music. Ever since 2012 I’ve been trying to get melodic/tropical/future/deep house, or whatever you want to call it, to become more mainstream. After I played at Tomorrowland in 2013 I got in touch with the organization of the festival and that’s how this very pleasant collaboration started.” Is it a lot of work for you? How does the hosting compare to a ‘normal’ set? “To be honest, it’s not that much more work for me. To me, the line-up is the most important, so that’s what I’m really involved with. I talk to a lot of colleagues and check if they’re interested in playing at my stage. If they want to play, my manager takes care of the contracts and the technical aspects. The biggest difference between a normal set and hosting my own stage is that I usually arrive an hour before I have to play. Now I’m at the stage the whole day to welcome my guests and to listen to all the sets.” Who do you consider DJ’s or producers who are very good or who will become very popular in the near future? “My big hero in the electronic music scene at the moment is Flume. He is innovative, plays terrific music and knows how to reach a big audience, which

is very hard and I can only praise him for that. As an upcoming producer from whom we will hear a lot more in the future, I would say Dante Klein will become a big hit. He’s on my stage as well and he has a very distinctive sound.” Are you performing with your live band at Tomorrowland? What’s the story behind the band, anyway? “Unfortunately I’m not playing with the band at Tomorrowland. We toured together for a while, because I wanted to prove that electronic music, and my music in particular, can be performed excellently by a band. Besides that, I’m sensing that people want more traditional instruments on stage again. People want to see chemistry between artists and improvisation. I hope me and the band can perform together in the future, but for now I’m focusing on DJ sets!” We understood that there’s an album coming! What can you tell us about that? “The release of the album is somewhere in September and at that point I’ll have worked on it for a full year. To me, it was the ultimate way to show a different side of me. Basically it’s a collection of tracks and sounds that vary a lot and that I really like, and that have brought me where I am now.”

39

At which point in the process of making a new track do the jazz/soul and house influences meet? Where do you get your inspiration? “A lot of my inspiration comes from old music, but also from movies. I watch a lot of unconventional (arthouse) movies, where they focus more on music selection, light and camera angles. Through these films I discover a lot of tracks and artists that I’ve never heard of before. Listening to new music inspires me tremendously, as it widens my musical vision.” What do you think of the sudden popularity of deep/tropical house and the big amount of releases lately? How do you think the future will be for your genre? “On the one hand, it’s very good that the genre has taken such a huge flight. On the other hand, I think a lot of creativity is lost in the process. When I made ‘Vandaag’, I wanted to make a completely unique song that no one had ever heard before. It was never my goal to get airtime on the radio. Nowadays, if I see a producer who makes a song with a guitar, vocal, saxophone, exactly like all the other deep/tropical hits, I find it kind of boring. With Teach Me I tried to break free from the conventional path again, mixing gospel and disco. Luckily I see that it has made some impact on some guys. If deep/tropical house wants to keep growing, there needs to be more diversity.”
