TOM’S FILM CLUB

TOM’S FILM CLUB

ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL JAPANESE FILMS OF ALL TIME. A LOVE STORY THAT DEFIES BOTH TIME AND PLACE, DIRECTED BY MAKOTO SHINKAI.

A STRIKING ANIMATED FIRST FEATURE FROM IRANIANBORN WRITER-DIRECTOR ALI SOOZANDEH, GIVING A RARE GLIMPSE INTO IRAN’S STRATIFIED SOCIETY.

Two high-schoolers yearn for a different life from their own, but when they find themselves linked in a bizarre way and forming a connection, will distance be the only thing to keep them apart?

The film follows the interweaving stories of three women and a male musician, using an unusual combination of rotoscoping, motion capture and hand-drawn animation to give the film’s aesthetic a unique and compelling feel. Lively and captivating while also exposing the double sexual and gender standards of traditional Iranian public life, this is an innovative and thought-provoking animation.
