This immersive cabaret night provides the perfect opportunity to don your best ‘morbid glam’ outfits and celebrate everything spooky! We are also delighted to present our 2019 #TOMtech Season (p5-6), our annual programme of technology powered art. This year, highlights include the return of the always popular VRLAB (p5) and a UK premiere of a piece that was originally conceived during a #TOMtech Lab, FATHERLAND (p6). Other highlights include swashbuckling adventures for the family with THE PIRATE CRUNCHER (p17), theatre from GECKO and MIND THE GAP in A LITTLE SPACE (p23), comedy from musical activists JONNY & THE BAPTISTS (p12) and some of the best new films screening as part of the OSKA BRIGHT FILM FESTIVAL (p14). He works at Walgreen’s, lives alone with his incapacitated father and wants to fire Esperanza, their Mexican carer. 1927
ROOTS A BRAND NEW SHOW FROM THE AWARD-WINNING COMPANY BEHIND GOLEM AND THE ANIMALS & CHILDREN TOOK TO THE STREETS. “In the night, a thick tangled root had grown from the boys navel, and a tough fleshy root had grown from the girls navel, and these roots were connected to their mothers navel, rooting the three of them together. They tried to cut the roots, but they could not...” Sitting on a shelf in the British library is an unassuming red book. “The Aarne Index” has categorised thousands of folktales, offering a glimpse into the imaginations of pre-industrialised people. 1927’s Roots is a medley of these rarely told stories. Tales of tyrannical ogres, magic bird’s hearts and very, very fat cats will be brought to life with 1927’s signature fusion of handcrafted animation and storytelling, with a live score involving Peruvian prayer boxes, donkeys jaws, violins and musical saws.
“Music, animation, narration, performance all comes together to forge a unique theatrical experience” Post & Courier
