Spring is here and it’s great to live in Florida! I hope everybody had a wonderful time at Bike Week last month. Full Throttle had booths at The Iron Horse and Boothill Main Street as well as hosting the Boardwalk Bike Show and sponsoring The Rat’s Hole Show. It was cool watching the live feed from Main Street on FullThrottleVision and it looked pretty damn busy every time I watched! It was crazy having the entire crew away from the office for eleven days and I’m kinda glad things are back to normal! April is one “crazy-busy” month with multiple events happening every single weekend! It starts with Bike Day at the Bay Area Renaissance Festival. This is a great event as we get dressed up and have a riot walking around the fairground area. Jousting, giant turkey legs, sword fights and hundreds of vendors make this one fun afternoon! On Saturday Night April 14, Full Throttle Magazine (in conjunction with NightMoves Magazine) will host the “Tuck-A-Buck” Poker Run. It will start at The Brass Flamingo in Port Richey and travel to Emperors in Holiday, Bare Assets in Holiday, Silks in Palm Harbor and conclude at Oasis Gentlemen’s Club in Clearwater. This run isn’t for everybody but I can guarantee you that the people who attend will have one hell of a good time! You don’t want to forget one of Florida’s biggest events that takes place at the end of this month. Leesburg Bike Fest has grown into a fantastic three day festival and you will want to circle the 27-29 on your calendar. Of course, Full Throttle will be there so stop by our booth and say hello! I want to wish two of my favorite people in the world happy birthday this month. My beautiful granddaughter Krysie celebrates #13 on 4/2 and it’s hard to believe she’s a real, honest-to-goodness teenager! On the other side of the coin, my Dad turns 84 on 4/18 and nobody believes he’s that “young”. Pop comes to work everyday, balances my checkbooks, deals with insurance salesmen and still kicks my ass on the golf course! I am the luckiest guy in the world to have him as my father! Happy Birthday Krysie and Pop I love you both very much! Have a great month and I want to wish the Tampa Bay Rays good luck this season. Let’s crush those Yankees, Red Sox and Blue Jays!!!

Hopefully there are no “April Shower’s” this year because there are a ton of events coming up that need beautiful clear sunny skies! April has a ton of great events to look forward to! On April 14th Full Throttle is doing our Annual TUCK-A-BUCK poker run that visits the local adult establishments in Pasco and Pinellas Counties! This is an adult only poker run that is a lot of fun and usually has a great pay out! Then on April 22nd there is the Credit Union Cruise for Kids that happens at Quaker Steak and Lube where someone is going to have the chance to win a $10,000 Visa gift card donated by Attorney Fran M. Haasch. This is a great charity that always raises thousands of dollars for local charities. I believe everyone knows about one of the biggest and best events that happens in the state of Florida, Leesburg Bike Fest April 27th-29th. Thousands of bikers from all over the state engulf the small town of Leesburg for a weekend of fun, music and great parties! This year the headlining bands are Firehouse on Friday night and Seven Mary Three on Saturday night. Full Throttle Will also be throwing a party at the Rats hole Bar on Saturday from 4pm-9pm. We will have great give-a-ways, 50/50, prizes and much, much more! This is a party you will not want to miss, I promise you! Bike Week was a lot of fun this year. This was the first time I was able to be there the entire time. The first weekend was horrible with lots of rain and wind. But from Monday till Sunday the weather was amazing! I think the crowds were down a little bit from years past. I have heard the reason for this is that everyone is skipping bike week for Leesburg Bike Fest. That just means that Leesburg will be bigger than ever before, and we here at Full Throttle are very excited about that! We had a great turn out at the Boardwalk bike show with over 130 bikes entered. The best in show was Sic Chops out of Arizona with some amazing machines. One of the fun things we did was stream out live internet show LIVE from Boothill Saloon on Main Street every day! Charlie Humphries was the man interviewing everyone and having a great time. Watch for it again during Leesburg and Biketoberfest. I would like to take this time and talk to everyone about the future growth of Full Throttle Magazine & MultiMedia. We are becoming a multi-media outlet for advertising in not just print but social media and e-mail blasts. We have over 7,200 fans on our Facebook page that we can get info out to daily, over 7,500 e-mails we send out weekly and the best motorcycle magazine in the state that comes out Monthly! How can you beat that!? FOR $600 YOU GET THEM ALL!!! For $600 you get a full page ad, multiple posts on our Facebook page and your full page ad on our weekly e-mail blast. If you break it down, you are paying $200 for each service. Full Throttle Multi-Media is the one stop shop for advertising your events in the state of Florida! I would like to wish a few Happy Birthdays in the Month of April. My oldest daughter Krysie turns into a teenage on April 2nd, Happy Birthday Pumpkin, I love you! My beautiful Fiance Tonya turns the big “30” on April 5th! Happy birthday my love, STRAWBERRIES! And my Grandfather “Pops” turns 84 this month also and works every day and is still, strong like bull! I hope everyone has a Happy Easter and you spend it with your loved ones. Don’t drink and ride and I will see you soon.

Is it April already?? Wow, how time flies, but The Diva Angels Tampa Bay Chapter are riding our hearts out not only for charity but for the fun of riding with an elite group of ladies and having F-U-N. We worked the First Annual Rotary Club Children’s Benefit Poker Run on February 18th at Quaker Steak & Lube. This event was spearheaded by Denise Dowling of Dowling Graphics. She is an amazing lady who gives so much to the community and we were honored to assist her with this event. We also made sure we helped work the “Love Fest To Rock Cj’s World” event to help a friend of the Diva’s as she recovers from a horrendous motorcycle accident. Get well soon Cj! Also, through a lot of hard work and fundraising on Bike Nights, we were able to present CASA with a check for $300.00, and we will present a check to Alpha House soon! We have many events we will participate in but what is equally close to our hearts is getting together for the love of riding. We normally have weekend rides to just about everywhere and when we are not riding we have our infamous Girls Night Out, which is a wonderful way to let off steam from any crazy work week. All in all, we LOVE

Classic Bike Ramblings OVERLOOKED.......OVERSHADOWED.... And UNDERRATED Well, my 17 loyal readers an epic anniversary is upon us. On April 15th 1912 at 2:20 am it will have been 100 years since the most famous ship sinking of all times I speak of the RMS Titanic (although the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald with its haunting song must be a close second). Hundreds of thousands of pages have been written of her, thousands of books about her and many movies such as "A Night to Remember"(1958) and the epic blockbuster "Titanic" (1997). And I'm a huge fan of this ship as it was on Sept. 1st 1985 at around 1:00 am that we would find her, you see my pals, I was a part of the Woods Hole team who found the doomed ship, but this story my readers is left for my soon to be printed book I am toiling over. So no I'm not going to bore you with a retelling of this Victorian tale. Suffice to say that like the epic Costa Concordia disaster of recent fame, Captain Edward John Smith and his crew through human error and limited heroics would cause the loss of 1,517 souls and even to this day almost everyone knows of her sad tale. No my interested voyagers I am going to write of a great warship and her brave crew and of a Captain that was "sold down the river". An incident that has only recently got its due and the men their deserved recognition, for her sinking has been overshadowed and overlooked and her crew and Captain underrated for far to long. In this first story of my trilogy I give you "The Captain and His Ship." Her keel would be laid down in a time of peace in America on March 31, 1930 in Camden, NJ. She was a Portland class cruiser of 10,000 tons with an overall length of 610 feet. Her steam turbine engines produced 107,000 shaft horse power and gave her a speed of 32.7 knots (37.6 mph) In the mid thirties she would be President Roosevelt's only choice for his "Good Will" tours to foreign countries and remain his flagship for her entire peace time career. The great cruiser CA-35 (Cruiser/Armoured) would see her first wartime action in the South Pacific beginning in 1942 operating deep in Japanese waters near Rabaul and then New Guinea, and then onto dangerous convoy escort work getting cargo transports to Australia. She would then become a part of the task force to remove Japanese troops who had invaded the Alaska Territories, Aluetian Islands chain but her work there would be done by August 1943. She would then move to Hawaii and become the flagship of Vice Admiral Raymond A. Spruance commander of the reknowned U.S. 5th Fleet. From this base she would see hard battles at the Invasion of the Gilbert Islands, the battle of Makin and Tarawa Atoll and then over see the victory at the Marshall Islands. In 1944 she would prove no ordinary ship and still remain the flagship of the U.S. 5th Fleet with battles of Kwajalein Atoll, the Western Carolinas, Mariana Islands and Saipan, she would then take part in the downing of over 426 Japanese planes at the Battle of the Phillipine Sea. With no rest or refit CA-35 would then go onto the Battle of Tinian. It would be in 1945 my patriotic friends that she would be part of the task force that would launch an attack on Tokyo (the first sea attack on Tokyo since the Doolittle Raid) and then race to Iwo Jima to support the landings there. The battle hardend ship and crew would now go to Okinawa where she would spend 7 days hurling 8 inch shells into the Japanese Beach defenses. But it would be on March 31,1945 that a bomb would pierce her decks and hull and put two massive holes in her stern. She would settle aft and take a list to port. CA-35 would effect open water emergency repairs and make the

long trip across the Pacific to California for repairs under her own power. Truly an amazing ship with a crew of iron men. But my 33 loyal readers it would be her next and final cruise that would put her in the history books. Her sinking on July 30, 1945 would be the greatest single loss of life at sea for the U.S. Navy and be swept under the table for so very long. The overshadowed and overlooked ship I speak of, my wondering friends, is the USS Indianapolis (CA-35) and this is the account of her, the brave crew, gallant Captain and of the great battlewagons that lasted two weeks above the water. After her major repairs from the bomb damage she would steam under the Golden Gate Bridge on July 16, 1945 and arrive at Pearl Harbor three days later. The Indianapolis would then race to Tinian Islands (near Saipan) with no escort or cover. On July 26, 1945, CA-35 would unload her top secret cargo, the major parts and the enriched uranium (at the time it represented 1/2 of all that was available in the world) for the Atomic Bomb "Little Boy" which would be dropped on Hiroshima eleven days later at 8:15 am on August 6,1945. This event my friends, would effectively be the beginning of the end of World War II. After dropping off her Atomic Bomb cargo she would steam over to Guam and disembark a number of her crew, a crew who had helped earn the Indianapolis her 10 combat Battlestars, men who had completed their tours of duty and were bound for home as the war was winding down. The cruiser would then head to Leyte unescorted even though her Captain Jim McVay had asked for an escort destroyer for this route (no ships without anti-submarine gear had ever made this crossing unescorted) and his superiors had failed to inform him that Japanese submarines had recently been sighted and sunk ships in these areas only days earlier. His only orders were to zig zag at his discretion according to weather and visibility. But my good readers it would be at fourteen minutes past midnight that the mighty Indianapolis's luck would run out and she would be struck by two of the six torpedos that the Commander Mochitsura Hashimoto of the Japanese submarine I-58 would fire at the great American Battlewagon. The heroic ship would suffer massive damage with one hit blowing off forty feet of her bow the other striking amidships and hitting the powder magazine and within 12 minutes the 610 foot ship would roll over and point her bow towards the bottom, her stern to the sky and of the 1,196 men aboard she would take 300 brave sailors with her. 900 men would now go into the Phillipine Sea at a half past midnight. They would go into the sea with very few liferafts and far too many without lifejackets. But surely a ship of her reputation, a flagship of the 5th fleet who fought continously for three long years, a ship and captain entrusted with the device that would literally end the war, well this great fighting machine could not be overlooked? She would be "missed" immediately, right? The shark attacks would begin around sunrise of the first day and would continue till the last man was hoisted out of the sea almost 5 days later. It would be an accident that the men of the Indianapolis were even found my friends. It would be Lt. (jg) Wilbur Gwinn on a routine anti submarine patrol who around 10:25 am would locate what he reported to his base as "many men in the water". The base at Peleiu would send out a PBY seaplane under the command of Lt. R. Adrian Marks who would on the way to the men fly over the destroyer USS Cecil Doyle (DD-368) and report help was needed, the Captain on his own authority and not waiting on "orders" would divert his ship to the men. Lt Marks and his PBY crew would get to the survivors in the water many hours before the destroyer

and would begin dropping supplies, water and rubber liferafts from a low attitude but while doing so they observed the men being attacked by sharks. Marks would disregard the standing order not to land in open sea and would proceed to pick up the men at the edges, solo swimmers and men at the greatest risk of shark attack. It would now be pitch black dark and with his planes fuselage filled to capacity with men, Lt. Marks and his crew would tie survivors to the wings of the PBY (the plane would be so damaged by this rescue it would be sunk there). They had 56 men of the Indianapolis aboard. The Cecil Doyle would home in on the over loaded seaplane inching her way in to avoid running over or further injuring swimmers. Disregarding the safety of his ship and with the threat of submarine attack still present, the Doyle's captain would point his most powerful searchlights into the sea and into the sky to look for more men and to serve as a beacon to the other rescue ships racing to the area. It would also be the first sign to the men who had spent 5 long days in the sea that help had finally arrived. After 5 days of hunger, thirst, exposure and yes shark attacks, the brave men of CA-35 were being rescued. Numerous ships would comb 100 miles and search till August 8, 1945 and of the 900 men that went into the sea, only 317 remained alive. The Discovery Channel stated in their "Shark Week" series "that the Indianapolis sinking resulted in the most shark attacks on humans in history" and would further say that most men died of exposure, salt poisoning and thirst, with the dead being dragged off by sharks. So why did the mighty Indianapolis go unnoticed and her crew languish in the shark infested seas dying of thirst, exposure and hunger? Well one reason is that ships as large as the Indianapolis were not "plotted" or followed as it was "assumed" they would reach their destinations unless reported otherwise. The Indianapolis was erroneously reported as "arrived at Leyte" by the officer tasked with incoming ships. The Indianapolis would send out three distress calls before she went down but they would be ignored as a Japanese "ruse" or trick. At the time of the attack around midnight the sea state was moderate and the visibility low to poor, she had just stopped her zig zag pattern steaming at 17 knots as this was usual naval procedure given the conditions. Captain Charles Mc Vay III who had commanded the cruiser since November of 1944 survived the sinking with injuries and although over 700 ships would be lost in combat in World War II, he would be the only Captain to be court martialed. The trial said to be carried out as the Navy needed a scape goat or fall guy for what was an embarrassing loss for them. Mashito Masimoto Captain of the submarine I-58 would be brought to the U.S. and actually state at the trial "I would have been able to launch a successful torpedo attack against his ship whether it had been zig zagging or not". American submarine experts and Captains would testify that "zig zagging was a technique of negligible value in eluding enemy submarines". Even with the testimony of many of his men that he had been in the water with, he would be convicted of "hazarding his ship by failure to zig zag" effectively ending his naval career. In 1946 Admiral Nimitz who had supported Mc Vay's innocence all along would commute the Captain's sentence. He would serve his remaining years at the New Orleans Naval District only being promoted at his retirement in 1949 to Rear Admiral. But his grief and the black mark of this incident coupled with scathing letters from some of the families that lost men on the Indianapolis would be too much my friends. On November 6, 1968 Captain Mc Vay would commit suicide shooting himself with his Naval service revolver and holding in his hand a toy sailor given to him by his father (Admiral Charles Mc Vay II). No note was left. In October of 2000 the US Congress would pass a resolution that would exonerate him for the loss of the USS Indianapolis CA-35

and in 2001 after years of his crew, his son and a high school boy's school project he would be cleared of all wrong doing of the loss of his epic ship that helped end World War II. The Indianapolis story has really been overlooked, only really coming to light the past decade or so although Captain Quint's famous soliloquy in "Jaws"(1975) did spark some interest in her story. A great ship lost and a brave Captain wrongly accused and a crew largely forgotten, overshadowed by the dropping of the Atomic Bomb, by the end of the war and a Government eager to cover up a horrible series of mistakes. Indeed my friends they say "timing is everything". And my next story is of an actress of my era who's talent was overlooked early on, who is still underrated and who was overshadowed the day she died and was someone who truly truly didn't get her due. I give you an important part of my High School and College years in a story I will call "The Talented Pin-Up." Farrah Leni Fawcett born February 2 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her father was an oil field contractor and her mother a graphic artist. She would be voted "most beautiful" in 1965 by her high school. Farrah would then attend the University of Texas and become a sister at the Delta Delta Delta sorority house and during her sophomore year appear in "Cashbox Magazine's" photo spread of the "Ten Most Beautiful Co-ed's". An agent in Hollywood saw it and after a year of coaxing and trying get Fawcett to move to Los Angeles, she did. She would then appear in countless commercials in the 60's and early 70's becoming the "Breck" girl, "Noxzema" girl and of course with that smile of hers the "Ultra Brite" spokesmodel. Her first try at TV would be in the 69 -70 season of " I Dream of Jeannie" with other guest spots on "The Partridge Family, The Dating Game , Harry-O" and in 1974 with future husband Lee Majors on the "Six Million Dollar Man". But my 58 loyal and dedicated readers, 1976 would be "Farrah's" break out year first she would appear in the well received sci-fi film "Logans Run" with Michael York. Fawcett would then work with Pro Arts Inc. an Ohio based poster company on a project that would set the standard for "pinup". Yes my interested people "that" poster of "Farrah" in that damp red one piece suit. The poster would sell an astounding 12 million copies and make the 29 year old beauty part of modern history. Pro Arts wanted to shoot Farrah in a bikini but she chose the one piece to hide a childhood scar on her stomach. The photos were shot at the Bel Air home of her and then husband Lee Majors. The famous suit along with other Farrah memorabilia was recently donated to the Smithsonian Institution for display. Fawcett styled her own hair , did her own make up and is said to have high lighted her hair on the spot with lemon juice. This would be shot just before her breakout TV show "Charlie's Angels" would debut. Yes, this poster would be credited as the first USA released poster to show such a visible nipple. From 40 rolls of film Farrah herself narrowed it down to that one, and being a shrewd business woman she retained ownership of the image and made millions on the sales of this poster. But my 43 loyal and devoted readers, 1976 wasn't over for our Texas hottie, it would be on March 21, 1976 that she would make her first appearance as Jill Monroe when "Charlie's Angels" was aired as Movie of the Week. It would have huge Nielson ratings and be aired a second time. The series would premier on September 22, 1976 and would also star Kate Jackson (Sabrina Duncan) and Jaclyn Smith (Kelly Garrett) of the three, Farrah would win the "People's Choice Award" for favorite new performer that year. Fawcett being savvy and a realist would say in an interview in 1977 "When the show was number three in the ratings, I thought it was our acting. When it got to be number one, I

decided it could only be because none of us wears a bra". The show boosted sales of her poster to record levels, with Fawcett making more on its royalties than from her salary for Charlie's Angels. She left after only one season (The show would run a total of 5 seasons) being replaced by Cheryl Ladd (Kris Monroe). Farrah was always looked at as a sex symbol, a hottie and just fluff not as a true actress practicing her craft and would always be accused of making it on her looks rather then on her ability. Boys use to line up at her Texas U. dorm room just to date her and she was idolized by millions of teenage boys and men through her posters and "Angels" roll but no one thought of her first as an actress, except Farrah herself. She would have the number one rated show after one season of 22 shows (she would do six guest appearances in seasons 3&4). But she did not want be type cast as Hollywood was so good at doing and the money minded Farrah had proved her business sense by retaining all her image rights and launching her own brands. She was doing her best to distance herself from her increasing "blonde bimbo image" and answer the question could she really act and take on meaningful roles. She would fill her "contract obligated" guest spots on Charlie's Angels from 1978-1980 and do some minor big screen movies such as Sunburn, Saturn 3 and Cannonball Run. She would also separate from her husband Lee Majors in 1979 and divorce him in 1982. She would then begin her more "on" then "off" relationship with actor Ryan O Neal who was with her till the end and would father her only child born in 1985. But Fawcett's time off , her divorce and her idea to reinvent herself and show the world that she was a true talent would pay off. In 1983 she won critical praise when she would replace Susan Sarandon in the controversial off Broadway play "Extremities" about a would-be rape victim who goes on the offense against her attacker. The next year she would tackle a role that would earn her the first of her four Emmy Award Nominations. A fact based story about a battered wife called "The Burning Bed" and in 1986 she would be nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her acting in the movie version of "Extremities". She took on dramatic roles of famous women and she would excel my friends, earning critical praise and Golden Globe Nominations for her roles in "Nazi Hunter : The Beute Klursfield Story" and "Poor little Rich Girl: The Barbara Hutton Story". Over the next few years she would win Cable Ace Awards, numerous Emmy and Golden Globe Nominations and public and proffesional praise, but it would be her portrayel of convicted murderer Diane Downs in a mini series called "Small Sacrifices " that would earn her the coveted Peabody Award for "Excellence in Television" from which she would receive this acclaim. "Ms. Fawcett brings a sense of realism rarely seen in a Television mini series to a drama of unusual power". She would play Robert Duvall's wife in the highly praised movie "The Apostle" (1997). She would then work with director Robert Altman and play opposite Richard Gere in "Dr T & the Women" (2000). She would appear in "Spin City", "Ally Mc Beal" and "The Guardian" (Emmy nomination) untill just before her death. She did not totally abandon her stunning looks and sexuality. She had resisted appearing nude or seminude on film or in magazines through the 70's and 80's. But with her 50th birthday looming she would pose

semi-nude for the July 1997 Playboy with an accompanying video where Farrah uses her body to put paint on a canvas. Farrah Fawcett would be diagnosed with a rare form of cancer (anal/intestine) and undergo surgery and chemotherapy in 2006. She would then explore experimental, holistic and alternitive treatments world wide in her battle with her disease. She would document her fight in "Farrah's Story" which would air on May 15, 2009 to 9 million viewers for which she would receive an Emmy nomination posthumously. She formed the Farrah Fawcett Foundation which supports alternative cancer therapy before she passed. Fawcett died at 9:28 am on June 25, 2009 with Ryan O Neil and her son by her side. But my 79 loyal readers she would be overlooked and overshadowed, she would not get her due in death just as she did not in the beginning of her career, no televised mourning, no 24-7 coverage of her well lived life that she deserved, even the 82nd Academy Awards would snub her in there "In Memoriam" segment. No my friends our true actress, pin-up extraordinaire and courageous cancer battler, well she had the misfortune of passing away the same day as the odditie called "The King of Pop" Michael Jackson. Farrah really shone through as an actress both to critical and public acclaim, playing strong women, rape/abuse victims and felons no lightweight roles there. She still balanced comedy, sexuality and gave to many chairities and causes and was an example of what you could become with a little planning. So much about her was unknown to the public, like the fact that she went back to college and got a degree in Microbiology, not to bad for an Angel and a pin-up.That now brings us to our third story, his group would be overshadowed by a band called the Beatles and overlooked by many after his TV show would end its epic run. And my 38 loyal readers he was very underrated as a singer, as an actor and as a performer but mostly as just being a good guy. I now give you what I am calling "The Monkee who wanted to be a Jockey". The Monkees were a musical acting group "assembled" in America for a television series that aired from 1966 - 1968 the group was made up of American's Mickey Dolenz, Micheal Nesmith, Peter Tork, and an Englishman named Davy Jones. Their first music producer was the legendary Don Kirshner. They became known as the "Pre-Fab Four" as they were originally thought of as the "American Beatles" but with a little more pop and humor and much more merchandising and commercial potential. The four actors originally were just vocals but eventually would perform as a live band and gain control of their music and tours. Along the way they all became musicians and showmen and actually had Jimi Hendrix opening for them on tour! The show would be canceled in 1968 but the band would tour into 1971. Their hits were amazing from the shows theme song, "The Monkees" to "Last Train to Clarksville, I'm a Believer, Pleasant Valley Sunday and Daydream Believer". They have sold over 65 million albums to date and in two short years they would have four number one albums and 3 number one singles. The group would produce 10 top twenty hit singles and their TV show would win two Emmy's. A Hollywood Walk of Fame Star would honor The Monkees on July, 10 1989, not to bad for our very underrated pop stars and teen idols. But one member was truly overlooked and underrated. David Thomas "Davy" Jones born on December 30, 1945 in Manchester, England. David Bowie (born David Robert Jones) would change his

name due to this conflict as their careers unfolded. He would act in his first play "Tom Sawyer" at age 9 and star in British soap operas at age 11. His mother's passing in 1960 would send him in a new direction and he left home to become a horse jockey. While working as an apprentice jockey, his mentor and horse trainer would tell him that being an entertainer was his calling not being a jockey. He would get set up with an agent and play the "Artful Dodger" on Broadway and then be nominated for a Tony Award, at age 16 for his role. It would be in 1964 that Davy would appear on "The Ed Sullivan Show" the same one the Beatles would be on and Jones would say "I want a piece of this" as he watched the Fab Four perform. Jones released his first solo album in 1965 and then would be the first actor/musician selected to become "one of the Monkee's". Davy would record as a solo artist, act in plays and appear in movies and write books after leaving the epic band. He would reunite and tour with various forms of the Monkee's line up for the next forty years, his aura as a teen idol would not fade and as Davy himself said "Once you're in you're in, its like the Mafia.....once a Monkee... always a Monkee" He would marry 3 times, have 4 daughters and become a grandfather three times. But Davy Jones never forgot his true passion and the man who became a second father to him and set him on his road to pop stardom. Davy was repaying the horse trainer who gave him a taste of what has become his passion, the man who gave him his first apprentice jockeyship in Newburg so very long ago, but who sent him off to be "a Monkee". Mr. Basil Foster is being looked after in his old age by Davy Jones who is repaying the debt he says he owes. The Newburg horse trainer is now 85 and in a care facility in Palm City Florida not far from where Davy lived and he has all his financial needs met by our former teen idol. Jones visited him often when not on tour or on book signings. Mr. Foster said "I treat Davy like a son" as he elaborates, "He is just like a son to me. He's looked after me for a long time and I'm very grateful to him" But Jones said he feels indebted to him for if it wasn't for this horse trainer he may never have become the baby faced musician of the "Pre Fab Four" and "Daydream Believer" may have never been sung. Jones would still take his mentor out to see the horses at his stables nearby whenever he could, Jones would say "He's still showing me how to long rein horses, still telling me what to do". Davy Jones would meet Basil Foster 50 years ago when his father would tell Davy due to his size he should try racing. But Davy's acting talent was showing at the same time but he really wanted to be a jockey, a star on the turf. He would apprentice for 6 months but as Basil would say, "He was always a good rider and there is no question he would have made a good jockey", but he added "I didn't think he would have the same success that he would in show business because he was so talented so I pushed him that way and I'm proud of what he has

achieved. He's a great lad". Jones would say "He insisted I go and I just cried. I wanted to be a jockey". But Basil would tell our future hit maker "You're going! Come back when you're famous". We should all thank Mr. Foster my 64 loyal readers, for I was a dedicated 9 year old fan of the Monkee's and Davy Jones, and I still am. Jones purchased Greenville Hall and built a 32 stall facility. He would then take out an amateur riding license and had his first ride at Newburg for trainer Tony Balding. Our teen heart throb would say "man it was exciting, I also had a few races over hurdles, but was racing against what I call professional amateurs". He would later break his hand in a fall in a 2.5 mile hurdle race so it wasn't easy for our singer, who's band in 1967 outsold the Beatles and the Rolling Stones combined. But for all the hits, the girls and the Emmy's he would achieve a lifelong ambition on Feb. 1, 1996. Mr Davy Jones riding a horse called Digpast and claiming 5lbs of weight would ride to victory in the One Mile Ontario Amateur Riders Handicap at Lingfield. Owned by his daughter Sarah, Jones would make a great ride in the saddle pushing the six year old to a two and a half length victory over "Four of Spades" on that special day. Davy would reminisce about it saying "It was my dream! I'd wanted to ride a winner since I was a kid and I was fortunate enough to realize that dream". He went on to say "the racing bug is never going to go away, I have a horse called "Bazfoster" named after Basil. I'd love to ship him to England box him up and run him at Newburg or Cheltham just so people can remember Basil Foster. That would be so great". Like all owners, Davy kept dreaming of that next win, that special horse that one big "hit", not on the music charts my friends but on the "tote" board. But with how he has taken care of his great friend Basil Foster, his family and so many chairities (he was a huge supporter of childrens education and MS) that he has worked with and for, well I don't think this guy should ever be overlooked or overshadowed and I hope history never looks at him as underrated. Davy Jones, a vegetarian and longtime runner would die on Feb. 29, 2012 of a massive heart attack, not onstage or in a hospital bed my good friends but at his stables outside of his home in Indiantown, FL. surrounded by his 13 beloved horses. No none of these people made huge errors in judgement, no none were drug addicts or abusers none were felons or had odd habits or were known as weird. They all did their duty, their jobs and lived decent lives and gave of themselves, to us and to chairities and all had fairly long and productive lives. But where was the front page news and a grateful Navy's thanks for the "Indy's" Captain and surviving crew? Where was the multi-mile funeral procession and star filled tribute for Farrah and Davy? Nope it wasn't there and only the Indianapolis group was worthy of a statewide flag at half staff and Ms. Fawcett and Mr. Jones would tell you that. This was a tale of three stories with no real connection other than I wanted to get the word out and set the record straight. You see my friends I think our media sucks, they aren't making the right people heroes, they are elevating druggies, felons and crackheads to superstar status in life and especially in death. Its sensationalisim and stories with little substance and if you don't agree, don't read my stuff ... it's a right all those folks who fought in too many wars gave ya. So do yourself a favor do a little research into what you read and what and who you "buy into". But you know there's one more "person" underrated today and it's you folks the motorcyclist and almost all of you stand for the rights and freedoms of this great land. I've seen you give your last dollar to a "Wounded Warrior" ride and your money and time to a multitude of causes and chairities. Yet you're still overshadowed for some reason? There is an amazing lack of coverage in print and film in our mainstream media. The big media still overlooks the motorcycling community and what they give, not just to bikers or vets but to children, the old and the hungry. Yes you my good readers are truly overlooked, underrated and too often overshadowed. God bless you all and keep it up.......... you've got one friend in the media.

42 Hi All, We just got back from Daytona Bike Week. Can you say wet, wet, and wet? The first 3 days the rain came down but we may it thru. The next week it was hot and beautiful, but the nights got down to 57. We were camping out at the A.B.A.T.E. Camp Ground in a tent. We walked around and meet some new people there like the GUNNERS LEMC. If you meet the GUNNERS you will like them to. Ok, up and coming this month in April … The Tuck-a-Buck is back on the 14th we will be up in Pasco to start it and end in Clearwater. Next is Leesburg Bike Fest on the 27th – 29th. I will be camping at the Leesburg ABATE Mainstreet Campground at 2770 East Richey Road, Leesburg. It's 2.5 miles to downtown Leesburg. You can put up tents or RV's and trailers. The International Antique Motorcycle Association held their first annual swap/bike show at the Eustis Fairgrounds in Eustis Florida. They hosted Full Throttle Magazine and me and I met some really nice people one of them was one of the promoters of the show. Charles is from Jacksonville Florida and he was a really nice guy and treated everybody well. I made some new friends as usual. A couple set up next to me from Virginia. They were really nice people and I enjoyed their company. I bought a turbo charged Yamaha motorcycle which is kind of a rare bike and sold quite a few things. All in all it was a good meet and I am looking forward to next year. Traveling around Florida I found a little auction in a place called Floral City Florida. I have been going up there on Saturday ladies...don't loan your bike afternoons and have bought quite a few things. I do not like driving at night so I have a new friend of mine bidding on things for me named Mike. He picked me up a real nice semi automatic 22 rifle. I have not had one for several years. The last one I lost in the house that burned. The guy who owns it is Billy Malone. He calls it the 5 Star Auctioneers on highway 41 in Floral City Florida. Before coming here he had an aftermarket motorcycle business in Washington State. He is a really nice guy and if you are in the neighborhood, stop by. Everybody knows about the Leesburg Bikefest. FRONT ROW IS THE SPLASH ZONE After two years of struggles, Sea World Orlando had a record year in 2011. Attendance rose 5.3 percent last year and per-guest spending rose by 4 percent. Good good Shamu! …. On the other side of the coin, ski resorts around the country had a crappy season due to a crazy-warm winter! The New England area has been especially hard hit with temperatures soaring into the 70’s and 80’ s in the usual cold months of February and March.

COVER YOUR PRIVATE PARTS The Meriden School Board of Education in Connecticut issued a new policy that prohibits kids from wearing jeans that are too form fitting because they distract other students! ROYALE WITH CHEESE McDonald’s CEO Jim Skinner will retire on June 30 of this year. Skinner, 67, has been the number one guy at Mac’s since 2004 and with the company for 41 years. Here’s an interesting tidbit, did you know that Europe is McDonald’s largest market by revenue?

CAN I GET A BOOK OF STAMPS The US Postal Service is in big trouble. The agency has been losing $35.7-million per day and 85 percent of its 32,000 offices do not make enough to cover their own expenses! The service is looking to close numerous branches and let retailers sell postage and provide basic mailing services. They are looking to save $200-million annually.

WHERE’S THE BEEF? In more food news, fast food chain Wendy’s took over the second spot behind McDonald’s pushing Burger King to third place in hambuger sales in the USA. The Golden Arches had $34.2-billion in sales, Wendy’s had $8.5-billion and Burger King $8.4-billion for the year 2011.

CHICK-FIL-A NOT ON SUNDAY Chick-fil-A stores are only open six days a week (they refuse to open on Sundays) but did an industry leading $2.7-million per store in sales and that is $300,000 more than the average McDonalds! I will say I like their waffle fries better than McDonald’s fries and that’s a huge statement!

CHEEPSKATE TOOTH FAIRY Here’s a sign that the economy isn’t what it used to be. A poll conducted by The Delta Dental Plans Association stated that kids are finding an average of $2.10 under their pillow after losing a tooth. That number is down from the $2.52 average they were finding in 2010. Wow, even the Tooth Fairy is reducing payroll costs!

PLAY BALL! Major League Baseball starts this month and the Tampa Bay Rays will try to make their way into the playoffs again. The AL East is still the best division in baseball and the Rays need 1B returnee Carlos Pena, newcomer Luke Scott, 3B Evan Longoria and outfielder BJ Upton to have big seasons. The team has great starting pitching and a solid bullpen but they need to score runs. This year MLB added a second wild card team in both leagues and that could a huge help to the Rays! The Yankees, Red Sox and Blue Jays will all be very competitive and a second wild card slot can’t hurt!

Full Throttle and the whole crew had a great time at Bike Week 2012. The Boardwalk Bike Show is Full Throttle's big show during Bike Week and Biketoberfest. This year we had over 130 bikes entered to make it one of the biggest shows we have ever done. Bill Chafin, his crew and the boardwalk merchants hosted one of the best FREE bike shows ever. There are many great pictures on our Full Throttle Facebook page from Bike Week this year including all the winners from the Boardwalk bike Show, The Rats Hole Show and many other events we were able to attend. We stopped by and saw Paul Sr. from OCC and even went and watched Paul Jr. unveil his........CAR.......at the Ocean Center. All in all it was a great time! We are already looking forward to Biketoberfest in October! See you all there! TONY C.
