Welcome to 2020 and happy new year! This is going to be a great year with tons of exciting motorcycle events all over the state of Florida and beyond. This year starts off with a great ride set up by David Moss going around the Bay area on January 4th called Twinkie’s Around the bay poker run! Then we have the most entertaining bike event in Florida at Gibtown Bike Fest. This is held at the Showman’s Association in Gibsonton. There are always a ton of vendors, great bands and lot of stuff to see and do at Gibtown. Be sure to pick up your mug there also, it will have the Expo logo on one side and Gibtown Bike Fest Logo on the other, this will get you discounted draft beers at both their event and at the Expo in February! Speaking of the Florida Motorcycle Expo, this year the dates are February 5th – 9th at Bert’s Barracuda Harley-Davidson. We have really stepped our game up and have a ton of great vendors, bikes competing for $30,000 in cash and prizes in the Bike Builder Invitational and some amazing bands playing! Bike parking will be at Bert’s and at Quaker Steak and Lube and car parking will be at the lot on 110th and US 19 and at the Calvary Chapel St. Pete Church on US 19 with free trams. We kick off the event on Wednesday Feb 5th with a great band, Reverend Barry and the Funk! Then we have national bands and local bands on Thursday

with Jasmine Cain and Buckecherry! Friday, we have Jeff Vitolo and the Quarter Mile Rebels, The Bearded Brothers and ending the night with UNCLE KRACKER!!!! Saturday, we have three great bands, Fade to Grace, Bobby FRISS and our headline act will be DAUGHTRY from American Idol and the Masked Singer! Sunday, we have our ride in bike show and the Bike Builder Invitational awards with 22N and The Greg Billings Band ending the event!!! This is our biggest band line up we have ever put together. YSE, there is a charge this year to see the bands! We have been asked numerous times to bring in bigger and more current bands by the motorcycle community. The only issue is that they are much more expensive! So, there is a $20 per day ticket fee to see the bands or you can get to see them all three days for $45. We also have VIP that includes free beer and food for the three days (Thrus. – Sat) for $200. This also includes up front seating for the concerts. YOU’VE GOT TO LEAN THAT BIKE! You may think that stating “you’ve got to lean that bike in order to turn” is common sense. However, common sense isn’t so common, and neither is leaning a motorcycle enough to avoid running right off the road. I say this because failure to negotiate a curve is still the number one motorcycle crash that involves just the motorcycle and the rider. Here in Florida, where curves are few and far between, failure to negotiate the curve is number one. In this state, that failure mostly happens on interstate off ramps. Many of which are decreasing radius curves. Possibly the most common place where this happens is on the I-95 off ramp at Ormond Beach that takes you to US 1 at Destination Daytona. Not only is that a pretty severe curve, it’s also a decreasing radius and an exit that you generally must come to a stop at the sharpest part of the curve. Worse yet, for an unskilled rider, you must slow quickly from 75 or 80 mph as you get off the interstate and onto the exit. Having spent many bike week rallies at Destination Daytona performing my rider’s skills show and having a great view of that exit from their parking lot, I’ve seen quite a few crashes and near crashes at the location. I have seen every mistake a rider can possibly make at that very spot. I’ll list them here.
1. Entering the turn too fast. 2. Not looking far enough ahead of the rider’s path of travel. 3. Attempting to perform maximum braking with the bike in a lean. 4. Not leaning enough to make the curve. 5. All of the above.
You may think that these are amateur mistakes, I’ve seen so called experienced riders do the exact same thing. In my Ride Like a Pro course, 95% of my students have been riding for many years. Yet, most of them are initially very afraid to lean their bikes any further than it leans while on its kickstand. That slight lean is only enough to allow the bike to make a huge sweeping curve at 50 mph or above. By the end of my class, I get 90% of the students close to their bike’s maximum lean limits. So, what can you do if you’re afraid to lean your bike? First, get to an empty parking lot and start making big circles at 20 mph or so. Circle both to the left and to the right. Next, keep your speed at 20 mph and start making big figure 8’s. Little by little, tighten up the circles and lower your speeds. Doing this will get you at ease with leaning at both high and low speeds, that’s exactly what you need. Happy New Year’s form the Back Yard. I do hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and one hell of a New Year’s party to kick off 2020. WOW 2020 already, just seems like 20 years ago we were never going to make it through W2K but I’ll be dog gone here we are. Oh, wait it was 20 years age, Holy Smoke how time flies when you are having a good time. And speaking of good time 2020 will be just that. Full Throttle has so many events planned for the year, you just got to subscribe to the magazine to make sure you don’t miss a single one. Gibtown bike fest starts off the year in January, we always enjoy being out there, Then it’s the big one folks, The 2020 Full Throttle Florida Expo at Bert’s Barracuda Harley-Davidson in February. Ladies and gentlemen we have made it through another year. While many people start the road to recovering from the holiday financial woes, and others start preparing for the tax season, let us not forget those who are still away from their families. More often than not, we lose sight of those who are stationed away from home, or even more the ones that are stationed in a hostile war zone once the holidays are over. Let us not do that this year. Together we can continue the support of our troops home and abroad. I challenge each and every one of you to continue your support each and every day. Maybe it is as simple as keeping them in your thoughts and prayers, maybe it is “thanking a veteran/service member”, or maybe it is donating your precious time and resources to the troops. There are many different charities, and organizations that offer assistance to our service men and women, as well as veterans. If each one of us can lend a hand where available, we can all ensure that our service members/veterans too can have a great year. Your donations do not need to be monetary, sometimes the greatest donation is simply time. Spend time

talking to a veteran and/or service member, this is very much appreciated. Some feel forgotten, some suffer from horrific psychological conditions, and some just need a friend. If you can do whatever best fits your time and/or financial situation please do so. I would like to highlight a very good cause, that cause is the Debbie's Dialysis Fund, The Debbie's Dialysis fund raises money to pay for bikers or their immediate family or friends that are suffering from kidney failure to not only get them the dialysis they need, but to also have fun while doing it. The Debbie's Dialysis fund selects up to 14 dialysis patients to go on The High Seas Rally cruise free of charge. This includes a FREE balcony cabin, FREE airfare, FREE on-ship dialysis treatments and up to $500 to spend during the cruise. The High Seas Rally is the world’s only biker rally on a cruise ship, What better choice could I have chosen for my very first cruise experience. There is absolutely nothing like escaping from reality for a whole week, to not only see the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets from the middle of the sea, but too also have so much fun, We enjoyed lots of great entertainment not

only at each stop, but even on the ship. Not only do they have great music and games, they also have parties. For example, I got to experience my first hillbilly/redneck party which was pretty hilarious, they also have contests like the best beard contest, the belly flop contest which looked pretty painful at the end. As if all the parties and music weren't enough, they had Pirate Biker Bingo, lots of raffles, and even free giveaways. I had a lot of fun on the high seas cruise I would also like to remind everyone February 5th - 9th, 2020, is our Florida Motorcycle Expo and Bike Builder Invitational.
