First of all, welcome to summer time! Here in Florida that means many rainy days and blistering heat. We will have a ton bike nights and events planned and of course they are all weather permitting. Our first big ride over the summer time is right around the corner. The 21st Annual Soaked and Sore Ass Poker Run. This year we are starting at New Port Richey Harley-Davidson and ending at Space Coast Harley-Davidson in Palm Bay. Our route this year takes us down by Lake Okeechobee and up the East Coast. It is just over 350 miles on way and is always a great ride! We even have a $5 coupon (that they very rarely give out) to visit the Kennedy Space Center the day after the ride. Everyone is more than welcome to join the Full Throttle Crew as we will be checking out the Kennedy Space Center on July 1st, the day after the run! We hope to see you there, remember you can only get a Soaked and Sore Ass Poker Run shirt if you go on the ride. It’s a badge of honor to have one and always a great story at the end! Our BIG ANNOUNCEMENT this month is that we have announced a NEW VENUE for the 21st Annual Florida Motorcycle Expo and Bike Builder Invitational that we host in February every year. The New Venue is the Future home of Bert’s Barracuda Harley-Davidson directly across the street from the Lube, where the event has been hosted for the past 8 years! The New location has 10 acres of property for us to host the event on, which is about 7 acres more that what we have had. There will be NATIONAL ACTS that will be announced in the upcoming months and on our Facebook page, tons of space for parking, vendors and entertainment! We are very excited to be working with Bert and his crew and the new property before they get their new building, and everything built. We will also be giving away a motorcycle during the Expo this year for FREE!!!! If you are a vendor or have been one in

8

the past, call us today to get your space now. Our number is 727-935-4875 and ask for JC, he will be handling all the vendors for the Expo. The Expo will remain a FREE EVENT with FREE PARKING! We will have a VIP section as we did last year for $150 per person which will include free food and beer all weekend long and possible meet and greats with the bands. You can also go to our website or Facebook for more info on the Expo and to buy VIP tickets! If you are interested in sponsoring the Expo feel free to call us at any time! All sponsorships also come with 12 months of advertising with Full Throttle Monthly and on our Facebook page where we have over 144,000 likes and about the same amount in followers! It’s well worth the investment! The Bike Builder Invitational part of the Expo will also be inside the large building in the middle of the property, not in a tent as it has been in the past, so all the custom motorcycles will be safe from the elements! We are looking forward to the 2019 Expo, that’s for sure! Be on the lookout for much more information to come soon! We re looking for Sales reps and distribution help around the state of Florida. We are based in the Tampa Bay Area, so we have this covered, but we need help in other cities like Jacksonville, The East Coast including Daytona Beach, South Florida including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Cape Coral and Naples and in Tallahassee. If you would like to sell ads and be part of the motorcycle community, contact us today. You will get Full Throttle apparel including hats, shirts and business cards and make commission on all ad sales and get paid for distributing the magazines in your area! You will also get to write and article in each month’s magazine talking about events happing in your area and your customers. On that note we would like to welcome BUDDY & CHRISTY COPPER, our newest reps in the Florida Keys and Key West! Welcome to the family! I would like to wish my Big Brother, Paulie, a very special Happy 40th Birthday! I enjoy having you by my side every day here at Full Throttle Magazine! Overcoming Your Fears & Gaining Confidence on Your Motorcycle

Spring is finally here. It’s time to get out and ride, and a great time to get some exercise. With that in mind, I’ve got a way for you to improve your riding skills, get some physical exercise and to overcome your fears, all at the same time. I’m assuming you already have a motorcycle, so, all you’ll need is a bicycle. Any kind of bicycle will do. By now you must be thinking, “bicycle, overcoming your fears, what the hell is this guy talking about?” Alright, here’s the story. I’ve noticed in my riders’ skills classes that many of the students have a fear of leaning their motorcycles, especially when it comes to leaning quickly in one direction and transitioning quickly to the other direction; in other words, a left to right or right to left transition. That quick transition is exactly what you’ll need when you have to avoid a vehicle that suddenly pulls out in front of you. The reason people fear this maneuver is because they’re afraid of dropping their motorcycle. So, to avoid that drop, the student’s slow way down, lean as little as possible, and then attempt to steer the bike as slowly as possible from complete left to complete right. Since they barely have any forward momentum, they wind up putting a foot down and having to abort the maneuver. While training in a parking lot under controlled conditions, this is no big deal. However, out on the road, aborting the maneuver can get you killed. In the course, after three or four tries, most riders realize that a little speed is all that’s needed and that the motorcycle will not fall over as long as you have some forward momentum. It even feels good physically when it’s done properly.

16

The reason it feels good is because they now are maneuvering the bike the way it was designed to be maneuvered. With that said, here’s where the bicycle comes into play. Since the bicycle has two wheels, one in front of the other, it reacts exactly like a motorcycle. Since the bicycle is so light, you don’t have to worry about dropping it. In other words, with the bicycle, your fear factor should be zero. Having no fear will allow you to try all kinds of maneuvers you wouldn’t try on your motorcycle. Plus, the sensations you’ll get as you lean, turn and swerve the bicycle will be exactly the same as on your motorcycle. When you realize that nothing terrible will happen to you when you turn those handlebars from side to side quickly, and it actually feels good to dip into the turns, you will be able to duplicate the maneuvers on your motorcycle. You’ll then be a better, safer, and more confident rider. You’ll also understand exactly how it should feel when you get it right and through muscle memory, everything will start to fall into place on the motorcycle. While you can set up specific exercises, (you can download a practice guide free at www.ridelikeapro.com) to start with, just get out on a straight road and start weaving back and forth. Get as aggressive as possible with the weave. Keep you head and eyes up and look straight ahead as you row the handlebars back and forth. That motion will teach you the dip. Next, try a few U-turns to the left. Aggressively dip the bike to the right side of the road and snap your head and eyes all the way to the left. You can even put a little pressure on the rear brake as you pedal through the U-turn. That’s the same thing you should be doing on your motorcycle. A little pressure on the rear brake while applying power to the rear wheel with the pedal stabilizes the bicycle and the motorcycle. Lean aggressively as you make the U-turn. Next, try the quick left to right transitions. Think of it as a quick U-turn to the left in half the lane, then a quick transition to the right in the other half of the lane. Again, do it quickly and aggressively. The more you lean in each direction, the better. In 30 minutes you’ll have a much better understanding of the dynamics of a two wheeled vehicle and you’ll be getting some aerobic exercise at the same time. When you transition to your motorcycle, you should be able to repeat the same maneuvers and little by little get more aggressive on the motorcycle—-while at the same time, gain confidence in your abilities and lose your fears. Till next month, get out there and practice! “Motorman” Jerry “Motorman” Palladino Copyright 2018 www.ridelikeapro.com

Well, here we are in the summer months down here in Florida. Will it rain? Will it be sunny? What about bike night? Rest assured that we will do everything that we can to get everyone as much information as we can regarding each event. Just give us a follow-on Facebook or Instagram. With that being said, we do have some great events lined up for June: Webster, Irish Kelly’s, Sonic, Laconia, Best Bet Jacksonville and the Soaked and Sore Ass Poker Run just to name a few. I know that JC (Sizzle) and I are planning to make the ride from here to Jacksonville for their Poker Tournament and I am very much looking forward to that, want to join us? Give us a call here at the office and we will see what we can put together. In other news… Congratulations to the newly “frocked” Petty Officers running around the deckplates in the US Navy. Seeing young Sailors advance was always my favorite part of the job, BRAVO ZULU Shipmates (especially my band of misfits in the VFA-106 AV/ARM Division).

FROM WALL STREET TO MAIN STREET Michelle Osborne Wall Street Rides Fromwallstreettomainstreet.com 754-MONEY-AM or 727-290-2762 As many of you know, I am an investment consultant with over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. I am also an avid supporter of the biking community here in Florida and you may recognize me from my attendance at and sponsorship of numerous bike events, magazines, and charities. A little over four years ago I purchased my bikes. As I was learning to ride, I met a lot of wonderful people in the biking community, many of whom were planning for a retirement, selling businesses, and going through many other life transitions, I knew my financial expertise could help so many in our community. So, I decided to partner with our friends at Full-Throttle Magazine to help more members of our community pursue financial freedom and a long, successful retirement. My interest in the financial markets began at the University of North Carolina, when studying business administration and economics. My interest turned into passion while teaching banking law classes at Buncombe College in Ashville, NC. So shortly after, I cranked the ignition and started my career in financial services. My first position was as an intern for one of the country’s largest brokerage houses. Shortly after starting with this prestigious firm, I was met with the statement, “You’re too young, too cute, and too blonde; you’ll never

make it in this industry.” Well, after becoming a top-performer at my prestigious first firm and three investment firms thereafter, I had developed expertise in a broad array of investment strategies and advanced planning techniques. So, about 18 years ago I decided to start my own independent firm. Here are a few of my areas of expertise:

• Personal and Corporate Financial Planning • Retirement Income Planning • Estate Planning • Charitable Planning • Traditional and Alternative Investment Strategies • Real Estate Investment Strategies • Business Exit Strategies • Insurance Settlement Structuring

I have had the privilege to learn from and work side-by-side with top brokers on Wallstreet. I have been through 5 severe market corrections. I have been a Guest Television Business Reporter and News columnist in North Carolina and Florida. And Served on Fidelity Advisors Council, The Economic Development Council, and several Endowment Boards. It is hard to list highlights from over 30 years in an article, but I wanted to at least share this with my readers, so you can know that my experience is truly vast. My mission here is to help individuals and companies understand the financial tools available to address their specific situation so that together we can enhance the financial future of the people in our biking community. I do this by utilizing my experience to simplify complex financial situations for my clients through common language and clear communication. I, like many riders, have a passion for taking on challenges. It is one of my core beliefs that every challenge has an effective solution. However, when sifting through the nearly endless options available, it helps to have a professional with the experience and discipline necessary to evaluate possible solutions with you. So when you think about planning for retirement, selling a business or real estate, receiving a settlement, or simply pursuing growth in your investments, know that I am ready to put my 30+ years of experience to work for you. Happy Riding, Michelle

What Happens When It Rains:

A Big Hello to everyone. I usually wright about things coming up or all of our great events. This month I thought I would change it up a little bit. Yes it is that time a year once again when it seems to rain every day. This article is something I had found and thought it was very interesting read.

Riding In The Rain

Scared of riding in the wet stuff? There’s no need; with a little know-how and a little preparation, riding in the rain can be just as safe and just as fun as riding on a nice, sunny day. Here’s how to ride a motorcycle in the rain. The heavens have opened and it’s pouring. You can’t see very far down the road thanks to the spray coming off other vehicles. Your visor is misting up and you’re not entirely sure how you and your bike are going to handle the rain. Slow down a bit. Relax. Pay attention. After all, it’s only water. The Right Equipment Riding in the rain for a long period of time? You’re going to get wet. It doesn’t matter how much money you spend on rain gear or what exaggerated claims the manufacturer makes, it’s just going to happen. Period. But, there are steps you can take to stay comfortable, warm, mostly dry and, most importantly, safe. The thing is, that when it rains, you’re going to get cold. And getting cold will decrease your ability to concentrate and your ability to control the motorcycle. So, riding in the rain shouldn’t simply be an effort at gritting your teeth and sticking with it, you need to prepare. The first thing to consider is likely visor fogging. With moisture in the air, every helmet we’ve ever tested has fogged up. Well, with the exception of Icon helmets, which are designed in rainy Portland and somehow gifted with magical anti-fog properties. Your more expensive helmet can be, too, simply by fitting a Pin lock, Fog City or similar insert. These really do work perfectly so, even though it’s dry today, go ahead and order one and install it in your clear visor. You’ll thank us when you’re caught in a storm. Also on the subject of vision: ditch the dark visor for a clear one, and if you’re regularly riding in the wet, consider a yellow (clear yellow, not gold iridium) shield. These increase contrast and therefore vision in bad conditions. Endurance racers swear by them. Every helmet maker ever will tell you not to apply Rain-X or something similar to your visor. However, we’ve been doing it for years with no ill effects. It causes water to quickly bead up and run off, aiding vision. It’s said to reduce the effective life of your shield, but we’re replacing our clear visors once a year anyway due to scratches and whatnot. So it’s definitely worth considering if you’re regularly riding in wet road conditions. The next thing to consider is your hands. They are the first things to get cold, and you need their fine control to delicately operate the controls. If your hands go numb, you aren’t able to ride safely. Period. So keep them warm and dry. Look for a pair of gloves with a name brand waterproof membrane like Gore-Tex or eVent. Because you want to retain control, gloves get bonus points for laminating that membrane to the outer shell, thereby eliminating one layer of stuff moving around between you and the levers. Gore-Tex X-TRAFIT has just such a lamination process and is used on the latest waterproof gloves from Alpinestars and Dainese. Now you want to consider your bike’s riding position. If your arms sit level on the bars (such as on an ADV or Standard bike) or sit higher (as on a Cruiser) you’ll want gauntlets that go over your jacket, then cinch tight. If you’re riding a Sport Bike, Sport Tourer or performance Naked and your arms slope down, you’ll want gloves that fit under your jacket, so rain running down your sleeves doesn’t enter your gloves. In a pinch, a pair of nitrile shop gloves or those cheesy plastic mitts gas stations give out at the Diesel pumps will help keep you dry and warm. Heck, even Marigolds have been known to help; that’s what Barry Sheene would wear under his leather race gauntlets. That same name-brand waterproof membrane advice goes for your jacket and pants or suit. Make sure zippers come with rain flaps so moisture doesn’t pass right through and look for a neck and cluffs that cinch tightly to keep out the water. One-piece suits like the Aerostich Roadcrafter do a better job of keeping you dry than two-pieces, simply because the rain can’t sneak in around your lower back. A regular application of NikWax or Scotch Guard can help keep out the water, too. Then there’s the tricky subject of boots. For some reason, manufacturers have yet to find a way to make a decent pair of waterproof motorcycle boots that also provide good feel and safety. Part of the reason is probably that boots sit in the spray coming off the front tire, so are essentially being powerwashed the entire time you’re riding. Look for boots that include a waterproof gusset in the entry flap that goes nearly as high as the boot itself, keep that name brand membrane in mind and regularly apply a silicone boot spray or similar around the sole/body stitching and any other hardware and you might get away with only damp feet. Wear wool socks, they’ll keep you warm even when they get wet. And they will get wet. Which brings us to the subject of what you wear under all that. Because rain is, absolutely, no argument, going to get inside your outer layer, your inner layer(s) also need to work to keep your warm and dry. A good ol’ fleece jacket works well at that, as do wool sweaters. You’ll also want a balaclava or scarf that doesn’t soak up water to protect your neck. Seal Skinz socks do a great job of keeping your feet dry, even in ventilated race boots. And, on top of all that, consider the reduced vision everyone on the road is sharing. Wear bright, reflective items to help drivers see you through the spray.

Water falls out of the sky. Duh. But that water also does some unexpected stuff. Road surfaces are porous. In the dry, those pores soak up oil and other substances, which are then lifted to the surface by rainwater. The most dangerous time to ride is in the first hour of a heavy rainstorm, when all that junk has been lifted to the surface of the road, but not yet washed away. Road accessories seemingly designed for safety also become positively treacherous. The paint marking lanes and other such stuff becomes icy-slick when it gets wet. So stay off of it. The same goes for manhole covers, tar snakes and those idiotic steel plates major American cities place all over roadways when they’re under maintenance. Those things are just death in the rain. Look ahead, plan ahead and ride smoothly. Never allow yourself to be caught riding over this stuff then suddenly find the need to panic brake. It simply won’t happen. Water sitting on the road surface gets between your tires and the road, reducing grip. That’s why there’s all that tread on your tires; its only job is to remove water from between tire and road. The rule of thumb is that the more tread there is, the more effectively water will be removed. Over cars, motorcycles benefit from narrower tires that slice through puddles. So, hydroplaning is rare. But it can happen. Anything that looks like it might be deeper than half an inch should, if possible, be avoided. Or, if you have to ride through it, take it through at steady throttle while bolt upright. Stay off the brakes. As the recent flooding in Colorado sadly illustrated, fast moving water should be avoided at all costs. If a stream has broken its banks and is flowing across the road, alter your route to avoid it. Attempting to ride through it could kill you.

What You Need To Watch Out For:

Even on a nice, clean, level road surface, grip levels are going to decrease. You won’t be able to brake or accelerate or turn with nearly as much speed or force. This applies to everyone else on the road too, but car and truck drivers tend to be a little less aware than bikers. You’re already riding defensively, in the wet you need to be even more careful around other vehicles. Their vision is reduced, their braking distances are increased and the odds of someone spinning across the road into you or just generally doing something unpredictable and stupid grow enormously. That same spray also reduces your own vision, making it harder for you to see ahead, plan ahead and take evasive action in plenty of time.

Riding In The Rain

40

What You Can Do:

Slow down. Seriously, just slow down. Not only does doing so ask less of your tires and grip levels, but it will give you more time to look ahead, identify hazards and come up with a plan for avoiding them. It’ll give you more time to read road signs and decrease your braking distances too. You also need to focus on riding more smoothly. Harsh, abrupt application of power, brakes or steering can exacerbate the limited grip on offer, causing premature loss of traction. Loosen up, too. A white knuckle grip on the bars exaggerates reactions and prevents your bike from working out problems itself. You don’t need to react to every little loss of traction or bar wiggle, let the bike handle those things for you. It can do so if you’re not clinging to the bars with a death grip, arms locked. When using the brakes, the same method as riding in the dry applies: slowly squeeze the lever to load the front tire and compress the suspension, then gradually increase force until you achieve the desired degree of deceleration. You can brake quite hard in the wet, you just need to do so smoothly and progressively. Actually, that applies to all your controls. Be careful of the back brake, decreased grip can result in locking it up even sooner and doing so in a corner might wipe you out. Same thing with the throttle. Accelerate a little more gently, a little later and just try to be smoother. Should a slide occur due to acceleration, don’t slam the throttle shut, just hold it still, look where you want to go and the bike should do the rest. Ron Haslam once told me his trick for wet racing was to counter intuitively by using a lower gear to keep revs higher. Higher revs equals more power, which may sound like a recipe for a slide, but more power also equals less throttle applied for a given amount of acceleration. Because of that, the rear tire is less prone to dramatically spinning up should traction be lost, allowing you to more easily correct the situation. The rules to remember: High gear, low revs, big throttle and a big slide. Low gear, high revs, little throttle and a little slide. When it comes to other vehicles, simply give them as much room as possible. And keep your eyes on the prize: getting to your destination safely. This isn’t time to try and start a fight with someone because they’re tailgating you, just move aside and let them pass; you’d rather have an unsafe driver in front of you, where you can control your distance from him, than behind you, where he’s in charge. As you slow for a traffic light, start braking even earlier than you need to for the altered road conditions. This helps to control traffic behind you, bringing it to a controlled stop rather than surprising them with anything unexpected. It’s sort of like herding sheep. At traffic lights, if it’s safe to do so, stop ahead of or between other traffic, using it as a free crumple zone. If you have to stop at a red light all by yourself, sit between rather than square in the middle of the lane and flash your brake light to draw the attention of distracted drivers. Late at night, in a rare Los Angeles rain storm, I once had a driver plow through a red light at 50+ mph with all four of his (completely bald) tires locked, missing me and my bike by maybe half an inch. Because I was sitting on the lane marker rather than in my lane, I lived to write this article. Last but not least: ABS and Traction Control. These work and should top the list of features you want on your next motorcycle. All the above safety advice still applies, just with a nice helping hand there to make you a little bit safer. The time is now for motorcyclist in Florida to start taking action for not only our own lives but also for the lives of those riding with us as well as our family members who look after us if something bad happens. The State of Florida is trying but failing us as motorcyclists. We ourselves the motorcycle community have not done much better at helping to protect ourselves. As a Motorcycle Rights Organization Sun Coast Brother Hood has been thought of over the last few years as a bunch of nice folks who ride from place to place, have a few drinks along the way and put on a great annual Christmas Parade and fund raiser for the foster care programs in Pinellas County. We admit that was true of the past. We as an organization have until very recently not done anything substantial since we fought and won to get the motorcycle helmet law repealed in the State of Florida. It is now time for organizations like Sun Coast Brother Hood and the motorcycle community to demand more from our elected officials but from the State of Florida also. The motorcycling community needs to aggressively seek out individuals who share our concerns about motorcycle safety, real life education for new riders, education of the driving public with regards to motorcycle safety in general, and to help curb the alarming rise in motorcycle injuries and fatalities and equally as important to find and support individuals who can help us obtain our goals. These individuals may be currently serving as State Representatives, Senators, other elected officials or they may be folks who are running for office that we have yet to meet and need our support. As the last Presidential election has shown us members of the motorcycle community have become a recognized large block of voters and it is now time that we start exercising that political clout. Now is the time for MROs like Sun Coast Brother Hood to stop being a group of riders that only react to proposed legislation and existing laws concerning motorcycle issues but become a Motorcycle Rights Organization that seeks to protect and educate current, new, and most importantly future riders, and to seek ways to decrease this alarming trend of riders becoming seriously injured or killed on roadways in the State of Florida. During 2017 the Board of Directors of Sun Coast Brother Hood decided to focus its legislative efforts toward first identifying key safety concerns and rider education issues, then come up with a plan of action to combat these issues. Some of the issues at the forefront of the list were rider safety, distracted drivers, decreasing the increasing number of devastating injuries and death in the riding community, and as important as the rest of the list to find individuals who will help Sun Coast Brother Hood bring those plans to fruition. Based on input from our Board of Directors and our general membership we have begun to cultivate relationships within Law Enforcement, Judges, state Legislators, other elected officials along with anyone else we think may help us obtain our goals. We want to educate elected officials to the concerns and goals of groups like ours and how our knowledge of issues concerning the motorcycling community may be an untapped resource when it comes to trying to fix some of these major issues. Based on these conversations we at SCBH have come up with an agenda we are going to start presenting to our current legislators, but also to the individual or individuals we will be backing in the upcoming 2018 elections. We honestly believe we can have a real impact on saving motorcyclists lives and in some case lives of pedestrians and motor vehicle occupants as well. The number one issue on everyone’s list of safety concerns must be distracted drivers. More specifically texting while operating a motor vehicle. This kills all interested parties, motorcyclists, vehicle occupants, and pedestrians alike without prejudice. In the latest legislative session that just ended there was a bill in both the State House of Representatives and the State Senate aimed at moving texting and talking while operating a motor vehicle from a secondary offense to a primary offense. This means Law Enforcement can and will stop you if they observe you doing this. It passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 112 to 2. Unfortunately, due to several issues the vote did not make it into the Senate to be voted on in this session. We will be urging our current State Legislators and any one who is running for office to quickly pass legislation concerning this issue. In addition to the issue of distracted drivers we will be addressing several areas concerning motorcycle safety and motorcycle education which go hand in hand in helping to decrease motorcycle injuries and deaths state wide. One issue that continues to amaze me is that without any training, or motorcycle endorsement someone can walk into a dealership and purchase a motorcycle. How is this even possible in a state with one of the largest motorcycling communities in the nation? If I wanted to purchase a car or truck not only would I have to show a valid driver license, I also must show proof of insurance. To purchase a motorcycle, I must show neither. This must stop, we must start to show as much resolve to safely and legally operate a motorcycle as we do when someone wants to operate other motor vehicles. With regards to motorcycle safety and training we would like to see the State of Florida take a few lessons from states like Wisconsin, New York, New Jersey and a few others. We would like to see a probationary period for newly endorsed riders. Why

72

is that we have a lengthy probationary period for new drivers to operate motor vehicles, yet the State of Florida does not seem to have the same concerns for Motorcyclists? Does their life and safety mean less to the State of Florida then operators of other motor vehicles? SCBH would like to see a new rider have not only a minimal six-month probationary period but be required to display a probationary plate on the motorcycle they are operating. This would be to help Law Enforcement identify newly endorsed riders. During this time, we would like to see new riders restricted from riding with a passenger on any motorcycle they may be riding. Have restricted hours of operation during the evening and overnight hours when it appears most of the significant accidents occur, and YES wear a motorcycle helmet. What? A helmet requirement from the MRO that successfully fought against the State of Florida to repeal the helmet law? Yes. For a newly endorsed rider we at Sun Coast Brother Hood would like to see a new rider live long enough to make an informed decision about wearing a helmet, thereby making an informed knowledgeable choice to wear a helmet or not only after they have become a more proficient rider. In addition, before the probationary period would end we would like to see a real-world road test administered on the roadways of the State of Florida and not just in some business parking lot to ensure proficiencies of safe riding has been acquired, just as is done to obtain a regular operator permit. In addition to a road test we would also like to see separate classifications on the displacement size a motorcycle engine has such as several states currently do. Some states have a class range of 50 to 699 cc as one class and a second one for 700 cc’s and beyond. If a newly endorsed rider takes their initial road test on a motorcycle in the 699-cc class or below. They would then have to retake a road test on a larger powered motorcycle thus proving they can handle a larger motorcycle safely. Failure to do so would result in fines or suspension of the privilege to operate a motorcycle. SCBH would also like to see aggressive enforcement of existing traffic laws aimed at riders who perform “stunts” while riding on state roadways endangering their own safety, the safety of their fellow riders, as well as those of the public at large. SCBH would like to see the State of Florida increase drastically the amount of motorcycle safety awareness into class rooms that teach driver education. In the realm of motorcycle safety and awareness we would like to see the State of Florida issue a vehicle vanity plate endorsing and promoting Motorcycle Safety and Awareness, something on the order of “Look Twice Save a life”. We understand that the ideas we are suggesting will cost money to the State of Florida, why not use funds from the vanity plates as well as the temporary motorcycle tags and temporary riders permit to help fund these ideas and programs? In addition, we would like to see the State DOT electronic bill board being used state wide to start posting motorcycle safety messages during peak motorcycle times such as Daytona Bike weeks, Biketober fest as well as regional posting when regional events are happening such as the Leesburg bike events, Thunder Beach in Panama City and such. Another major undertaking by our board is to begin to become more involved in the political climate not only on a regional area but state wide also. We have law makers attempting to pass legislation sometimes without what appears to be any input from the motorcycle community. They want to regulate our lives and impact them without asking what we the riding community would like to see changed. There are safety focus groups who look at skewed data and make recommendations on how our lives can be made safer without looking at real numbers. In the state of Florida when you look at motorcycle injuries and fatalities did you know that injuries for not only Motorcycles but ATV, Mopeds, Waterskies, Jet skis and other water craft are all lumped together? How is that a fair representation of our lives and safety concerns? That is why we need to become more involved as riders on not only what, but who is shaping policies that are affecting our lives. As one of the legislative trustees to the Sun Coast Brother Hood Board of Directors I, along with Andy Spenik, have been tasked with meeting and talking to our local legislators about our ideas and agenda. In addition, we have been searching for that someone to help us bring our issues to the forefront and begin making changes to save some lives. We have taken this issue seriously enough that we have gone out and found that someone we believe shares our concerns as riders, someone who is a former rider, and who has some staff members who are either former riders themselves or married to current riders. The person I am talking about is Representative Ed Hooper of Clearwater. Ed is running for the 16th Senate District of Florida which covers Pinellas County from Belleair Road north into Pasco County to State Road 52. Ed Hooper has the kind of leadership we have been looking for in the motorcycle community. For the first time in the History of Sun Coast Brother Hood we are backing a candidate physically as well have made a financial contribution to his campaign. We believe Ed's credentials speak for themselves; he was a Clearwater Fire Fighter for 24 years, a member of the Clearwater City Commission from 1996 - 2000; Vice Mayor of Clearwater from 1999 – 2000, was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2006, and subsequently reelected until 2014 when he left due to term limits. His list of accomplishments while holding elected office are numerous. We at Sun Coast Brother Hood believe that Ed not only will be an asset to the Motorcycle community at large but will also lead us to likeminded people who will be able to make the goals of a safer riding community a reality. Ed Hooper along with TJ Sutton, Sun Coast Brother Hood’s Home Chapter President, and Board Legislative Trustee John Makal

Hello, Florida! Well, it’s June and Hurricane Season is here. Usually I don't pay much attention, but after last year’s storm, here are some hurricane tips for your making sure your Motorcycle is safe, too. If you’re taking your Bikes with you on a trailer or driving them elsewhere from home or keeping them in your garage, the first most important thing is INSURANCE! You are not required to carry insurance in Florida and many who do carry it have no idea what is covered. The scenarios are endless: if it floods, it’s one policy, if it washes away with a home, it’s another. >Make sure you know if it is covered by your homeowners if it is sitting in the garage. Don’t assume. > You cannot buy insurance when there is a storm past a certain latitude, and some policies have a 30 day wait to start. Some companies will not write a policy after June 1st. Call you agent now before she gets too busy or is not in office due to preparation of her own. > Know what's covered. If it's at your home, is it covered in garage by your homeowners and flood ? If it’s in a rented garage, is it covered by your storage insurance? Do you have

comprehensive coverage for hurricanes on it? If it happens to be in parts in the shop, is it covered fully by the shops insurance? The actual cash value or replacement value? It makes a big difference. If it's an expensive custom Bike, have it appraised yourself before the storm. It's worth it. >If you keep your Bike outside, and inside is not an option for you, before the storm park it against a concrete wall away from wind as much as possible on the highest ground you can and strap it down. > A piece of foam under your Bike cover will stop it from rubbing the paint off in wind, another piece of foam on top of that with a secured tarp offers more protection from debris. >If you can not get it to higher ground, cover air cleaners and exhaust to keep water from getting in. Remove windshield and all bags and accessories if you're storing it outside. Keep it full of gas, just in case. And I probably do not need to say this, but DO NOT RIDE DURING A HURRICANE! We all saw the videos last year. I bet your Bike’s never ran the same after 3 ½ feet of water. I don't know anyone who FEMA bought a new Motorcycle for last storm, so get insurance!! I pay $12.00 a month for the highest coverage and lowest deductible - and that's for a girl who gets caught speeding far too often. Happy Hurricane Season, Laurie Jo

Hi Everyone! It was another great event month in south Fl. although the festivities started off- north of Orlando in Leesburg and Full Throttle was was in full swing at the Bike rally! The 22nd Annual Leesburg Bike fest is the most popular 3 day bike event in the US. where over a quarter million bikers congregate for the world's largest motorcycle & music event. For over 20 years this event has grown due to its friendliness, accessibility, headlining entertainment, bike shows, demos, contests & over 200 vendors! Over 55 bands played and this years headlining entertainment featured Cinderella's Tom Keifer Creeds Scott Stapp , Colt Ford & Jasmine Cain! All music genres are represented, including Rock, Country, Blues, dueling pianos, solo artists and more. Beyond the music, enthusiasts will find a variety of exciting bike shows and demos. The worlds famous 'Rats Hole' held their custom bike show featuring hundreds of the coolest bikes around. Other events include Team Extreme, Bike Stunt Show, Ride like a Pro, Biker games, and the legendary Drome & wall of death where stunt guys ride their vintage motorcycles on the walls of the cylindrical tower. This year was an exceptional riding experience as many of us stayed in beautiful rental properties 30 miles outside of town so had extra riding time to & from town and also fit in rides around the local lakes ; Lake Harris has a kool venue- 'The Hideaway' always a ton of bikes & great music! Leesburg Bikefest promotes a great experience in and around town- always a great adventure! On the local scene the Fort Rock Music Fest had its first time event held at Markham Park in Weston. Originally held in Ft. Myers, this event required a larger space to promote its concerts and a Huge attendance showed up for this 2 day event which included 23 bands, 2 stages; featuring 12 bands

Fl. was the 12th Annual 'Concoues d' Elegance' a charity event presented by Auto Nation & MercedesBenz to benefit the Boys & Girls Club. This was held at the Boca Raton airport and many high profile folks attended. Tim Allen & Jay Leno were wandering through the crowd greeting everyone and chatting up their expertise on the many exotic cars & motorcycles - some being vintage dated. Guests could eat & taste from several different local restaurants while checking out the impressive collection of amazing cars and bikes. This event raised 10 million dollars for a great cause! wow- we definitely need more of these types of fund raisers!! Many thanks to my Local American Legion friends who continue to support, guide & help out - looking forward to some future legion Rider events & rides, So lets go Legion Riders to get more charity events on the road!!
