Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing well through these tough times. Here at Full Throttle the Covid situation has hit us hard but we are making our way through and will come out on the other end bigger and better than ever! It is great seeing the state opening back up. We are ready to put this pandemic behind us and start having events, bike nights, concerts, Amusement Parks, and everything else happening and open again. We are in the process of getting ready to help all the bike nights that will be starting back up get the word out about their events. REMEMBER – we are running discounted ad rates for the next few months (Rates are half price now until October, they will return to normal rates) Right now our Full Page ad rate is $300 – Half Page ad rate is $150 – Quarter Page ad rate is $75 and a Business Card is only $40. We are here to help the community get the word out about events and that your business is open. Feel free to call us with any questions or help you may need 727-935-4875 June 13th is the day of our 23rd Annual Soaked and Sore Ass Poker Run. This year we are starting in Clearwater at Quaker Steak and Lube, who will be serving breakfast, and ending in Islamorada (The Fl Keys). The Keys have been shut down completely since March 15th and need help! They survive on tourism and they have not seen any tourists in quite some time. The stops include Rossiter’s Harley-Davidson, Black Widow Harley-Davidson, Rockstar
8
Harley-Davidson, Island Café in Everglade City, a RaceTrac gas station in Florida City (one of the only tings open there) and we end at Islamorada brewing and distillery. The cost is $40 for a single rider and $70 for riders two up on a bike. Each rider will get one poker sheet with three poker hands. At the end stop they will receive their patch, t-shirt, and competition certificate. That is what’s great about this ride, you have to earn your patch and t-shirt, it’s not just given to you at the beginning. We hope to see a huge turn out on this great ride this year. If you have any questions please go to the Facebook event page or you can email or call me at 727-919-1743 or tonyc@ floridafullthrottle.com Be sure to watch Good Morning Clearwater every morning, Monday thru Friday 8am till 10am, live on Facebook, but especially on Tuesdays when I am the special guest. The hosts of the morning radio show are Paul and Tracy Allen, of course some of you may know, my dad and stepmom. This is a fun and funny morning radio show talking about all the latest news topics and the motorcycle community. Looking for sponsors for TONY TUESDAYS! We can run commercials and you can sponsor that day on the show and call in and promote your business. Good Morning Clearwater can also be heard on 106.1fm in the Pinellas County area, and some of Pasco. See their ads in this issue in Full Throttle Magazine. I would like to wish all the dads out there a special Happy Father’s Day and two special birthdays in the month of June, My big Brother Paul, who is kicking ass working at Freedom Boat Club and him and his family have just recently purchased a new home here in Florida, congrats bro, love ya! Motorman’s Tips, Tricks, and Techniques – Riding with a Passenger Sometimes what seems to me to be a very easy thing, others find to be the exact opposite and that’s only because some people overthink such things and believe it can’t be that simple. I’m talking about riding a motorcycle with a passenger. You wouldn’t believe all the questions I get on this subject. I’m going to lay it out right here in the easiest way possible. Let’s start with how the passenger should mount the bike. The simplest way I find is for the passenger to get on the bike first. Here’s how it works. The passenger mounts from the high side, while the bike is on the kickstand. The passenger puts their right foot on the floorboard, swings the left leg over the tour pack and first sits on the rider’s seat. Then, simply scoots up onto the passenger seat. The rider mounts the same way. Once both the rider and the passenger are seated on the bike, the passenger leans forward, close to the rider. The rider then turns the handlebars full lock right, and pushes the bike straight up and puts the kickstand up. I use this method at my class as I often put students on their own bike and ride them through an exercise to show them what the bike feels like as it leans through the turns. Most of these riders are men in their 50's and 60's and not very flexible. This method works perfect for me, try it. I also get a lot of questions about what a passenger should and shouldn’t do while on the bike. Again, I’ll simplify it. When making tight, low speed turns, the passenger should scoot up close to the rider. This puts most of the weight in the center of the bike and makes maneuvering much easier. This also works well on winding roads even at higher speeds. The passenger should NOT lean in the opposite direction of the rider. It’s also a good idea for the passenger to inform the rider if they must adjust their position on the seat. (No sudden moves). On the same subject for the rider, if you buy a new heavyweight touring bike like an HD Ultra, you may be tempted to put the wife on the back and take her for a ride as soon as you get home from the dealer. DON’T do it. Get used to the new bike on your own. Pull into a parking lot and practice your low speed skills before allowing a passenger on the bike. Practice your braking, then swerving and leaning and U-turns for at least an hour on your new ride. If you can’t do any of these maneuvers by yourself, putting a passenger on the bike will only make things worse. A little common sense goes a long way. Till next month, get out there and practice your skills. Motorman www.ridelikeapro.com Copyright 2020 Jerry "Motorman" Palladino

Hey Hey, first with everyone being cooped up, working from home, getting two wheeled therapy is good for the mind, body and soul. Diva Angels Tampa Chapter has managed some Safe Distancing Rides in April and May to help keep our sanity with travel restrictions and closures. Diva Teresa has been volunteering delivering food for networktoendhunger.org with other Pinellas County bus drivers to feed hungry children. Florida spring came with cooler temperatures which makes for pleasant one tank trips. First we hit the back roads from Pinellas to Lake Lindsey Deli for their yummy pressed cubans, enjoying the outside fresh air, and taking the long scenic way home thru Aripeka. Another wonderful day, we headed out early on the 40th Anniversary of the Skyway ‘accident’ we paid tribute at the Rest Area, then continued onwards to the ‘Tail of the Gecko’ in Parrish northwards to Riverview. We hit River’s Edge and they were closed (sad face), we went onwards to Plan B and rode to Ybor Gaspar Grotto for lunch and searched for Ybor’s chicken mural.
Prayers and condolences to the Phil & Jenny Jacoby, Jenny’s Mother and Diva Angel Sandy Brown passed away in May (not virus related). We have missed getting out and socializing with everyone so we found other options! Diva "Girls Night Out" via Zoom, and it was a huge success and so much fun. We have also done a couple of our monthly meetings via Zoom. However... JUNE 9th our Meeting will be back at Quaker Steak and Lube, but we are going to spread out in the parking lot to keep safe distance (please bring a chair) If you are interested in learning more about the Diva Angels, Tampa Chapter meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at Quaker Steak Lube in Clearwater (6:00-7 social meet & greet). Please check out our website http://www.divaangels.org/ to find a chapter near you or visit us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/DIVAANGELSTAMPABAYCHAPTER/ (Pinellas County area) You can send a message on FB if you have any questions. Guardian ad Litem Bloody Screams for Advocacy - Dedicated to Judge Mike Andrews By Florida Night Train Screams of fear from my mom and brutal glass shattering noise was what woke me in the middle of a cold night. Walking half asleep into the kitchen, walls covered with my mom’s blood, I saw my mother crouched in a corner. Dad hovering over her tiny frame was about to strike again. That is when I launched my little 7-year-old body with all my might in her defense screaming at my dad challenging him to stop. His then ice-cold gaze in my direction seized me with absolute terror. In the end, I went to bed pretty bruised-up that night, but mom was left alone. On another occasion, I was reading quietly in the back seat of the family car one Sunday afternoon on our weekly family drive. The noise from their constant arguing kept escalating in volume but that did not bother me. It was pretty common for them to get loud. That is until blood suddenly splattered in my face and all over my comic book from a single blow to my mom courtesy of a man who I was supposed to call dad. She was bleeding profusely with a broken nose. As a volunteer Guardian Ad Litem, I can tell you these two incidents while difficult to relive are a glimpse into some of the things that happen day in and day out in the communities we serve. About five years ago sitting quietly with guests at my house around the fire pit while my three children slept, these memories were triggered again with screams of terror from a nearby neighbor. That is when I decided following a previous discussion with a dear friend that I would never sit idle again not doing my part to help. Just like I did for my mom back then. In Florida, there are more than 19,000 children in out-of-home placements as of Jan. 15, 2020. Such numbers make finding good homes for at-risk children a challenge. That's part of why we at the Guardian ad Litem Program – who advocate in court for abused, abandoned, and neglected children – need your support. It’s in every citizen's interest to step up, and here’s why: There are more than 400,000 American children in foster care. Their average length of stay is 25.3 months, according to the Ackerman Institute for the Family – and they have rates of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) similar to veterans of war. What's more, children who age out of foster care without a family are four times likelier to enter the criminal justice system as adults and 17 times likelier to be homeless by the age of 21. One way to help is volunteering as a Guardian ad Litem. Children with an advocate are twice as likely to be adopted as those without – and they stay in foster care for shorter periods of time. You can also donate to non-profits that support children in foster care with everything from school supplies to scholarships. We have non-profit partners in each judicial circuit, helping local children served by the Guardian ad Litem Program. • To learn more about Guardian ad Litem or to volunteer, visit www.GuardianadLitem.org or call 1-866-341-1GAL. • Explore adoption: A joint effort by the Governor’s Office of Adoption and Child Welfare and the Florida Department of Children and Families at www. adoptflorida.org. • For adoption support within the state of Florida, contact the Florida Foster and Adoptive Parent Association at www.FloridaFAPA.org. • The North American Council on Adoptable Children at www.nacac.org offers a free webinar on adoption benefits assistance.
But while not everyone can take in a child – or be a Guardian ad Litem representing one in court – everyone can help reduce the number of underserved and often neglected children without families. • Thanks to social media, groups all over Florida support foster parents. The statewide Foster Florida is at www. fosterflorida.org, and they post families' specific needs. • Make dinner for a foster family, buy them a gift card, or baby-sit to give caregiver(s) a break. • Bikers Against Child Abuse, Florida Chapter, at https://florida.bacaworld.org. Here are some of Guardian ad Litem Program's Major Accomplishments for Fiscal Year 2018- 2019: • 38,997 total children represented • 10,000+ citizens who volunteered as GALs • 508 pro bono attorneys donated legal services • GAL’s “Defending Best Interests Project” collected more than 4,600 hours of donated legal services to defend the best interests of children -- $1.3 million worth. • A partnership with the Florida Association of Women Lawyers, “FAWL in Love with GAL,” connects teenage girls with lawyers who mentor them and provide positive role models. Our new “Total Engagement” program establishes a onestop shop for law firms and attorneys to find pro bono projects to support the children and families we represent. • The Program has public-private partnerships donating critical resources to the children we represent, including the National Court Appointed Special Advocates Association, Sunshine Health and the Akerman Law Firm. • In addition to consistent assistance from county governments, the Program is supported by 20 not-for-profits, one in each judicial circuit. They provide resources from meeting the needs of individual children (e.g., school clothes, MRIs, camps), to funding positions, organizing GAL volunteer recognition events and helping recruit foster parents. GAL works to improve the quality of representation for children, including: • Creating a certification program for our Child Advocate Managers in collaboration with the Florida Certification Board to enhance representation with professional credentialing. • Facilitating Board Certification with The Florida Bar for our attorneys, who represent over 10% of all Florida attorneys who are Board Certified in Juvenile Law. • Our training curriculum, the “I am for the Child Academy,” is web-based and publicized to everyone in the dependency community at no cost. The Academy has thousands of registered users and offers not only basic dependency training, but webinars on more complex child welfare issues and free CLE trainings for lawyers. • At the direction of Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis, GAL Executive Director Alan Abramowitz is chairing a subcommittee of the Children and Youth Cabinet aimed at reducing youth suicide, with a focus on mentoring as a key strategy. • Since volunteers are such a critical part of our advocacy, we also are partnering with Volunteer Florida to reach more people who want to help abused and neglected children. Mariela Ollsen who like us all is an avid motorcycle enthusiast has been the Circuit Director for the Sixth Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program for three years. Previously, she worked for the program as a Child's Best Interest Attorney. Mariela says the issues faced by children and youth are very close to her heart. "These kids are going to be the future, but kids in the child welfare system often lose hope. But I think the consistency and encouragement provided by our volunteers can restore that hope." As the Circuit Director, Mariela oversees four Guardian ad Litem offices in Pasco and Pinellas counties, with more than 900 certified volunteers. The Sixth Circuit GAL program faces many challenges, with 3,344 children in the dependency system as of November 2019; of these, our volunteers were appointed to represent roughly 1,848 children. We love our volunteers and need more. That said I must say after ~5 years volunteering as a Guardian, it has not been easy but the rewards of knowing I am helping to make a child and possibly a parent safer by far surpass anything I can think of. I believe the sentiment is true and one we should all stand by and that is simply to leave no child behind. Please consider this my invitation to join me to protect children. Isaiah 1:17 17 Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.
