Well, here we are putting together the 2014 Bike Week issue and someone reminded me that this month is my 1 year anniversary of owning the magazine. I cannot believe that it has already been 1 year that I have taken over! Time seems to be flying by. I can honestly say that we have a great group of people working with the magazine that have really busted their butts. We have a new addition to the team as well, Shelly Haldeman, who we met at the Expo and has come into the company and is a great fit. If you see her out and about at events, make sure you say hi! We are always looking for new sales reps. who can bring energy and excitement to our team! If you are interested in working for Full Throttle, please contact me at our office number 727-935-4875. Full Throttle has a ton going on at Bike Week this year! We have numerous set ups all over Daytona and Ormond Beach. You can find us at Main Street Station on Main Street, Destination Daytona under the Coke Pavilion, The Cabbage Patch, the Boardwalk Bike Show and at the Rats Hole Show. We will be handing out magazines and our sponsors flyers and information at our booths as well as stickers and other great items. We also have a new bike show this year. We are hosting a Kickoff Party and Ride In Bike Show at the Coke Pavilion at Destination Daytona Harley-Davidson on Saturday March 8th (The first weekend) This will be a 10 class ride in bike show sponsored by Attorney Fran M. Haasch, Destination Daytona and Full Throttle Magazine. We have trophies for 1st and 2nd place and a 4 foot trophy for Full Throttle Choice and a 6 foot trophy for best in show. Registration is from 9am till 12noon and is $10 per class entered with awards around 3pm. This is a first time event and we hope to see a ton of bikes in the show! If you need more information about it please feel free to give us a call at our offices. We hope to see you there! We will also be at the Boardwalk Bike Show on Friday March 14th. This is a huge show that usually gets around 150 - 200 bikes in the show and has a $500 prize for Best In Show! This is also sponsored by Full Throttle and Attorney Fran M. Haasch. We hope to see you all there in Daytona! Full Throttle has just joined up with a great National Company that is also local to the area. Be sure to check out Freight Center on page 5 or like their facebook page! We are in discussions on a great deal for getting your bike to Sturgis if you are interested in going this year. There will be much more information to come in the following months. We would like to welcome them to the Full Throttle Family and they are here to help you with all of your shipping needs! www. freightcenter.com or (844) 855-BIKE. We would also like to welcome 7eye to the Full Throttle Family! They make great sunglasses for the motorcyclist! They are also the new exclusive eye wear of the Full Throttle staff! They sent us a few pairs to try on and we all love them! Check them out on page 2 of this month's magazine or visit www.7eye.com for more information on their brand and company. There are a ton of birthday's in the month of March that I would like to acknowledge... First is my Dad's (Paul Cianci) birthday on March 3rd! Happy Birthday Dad, Love ya! Welcome a very special back. I had a very special guess join me in the back. Great White Keyboardist Michael Lardie. Michael joined me to promote the big up coming Great White concert at Destination Daytona, but to take a trip down memory lane back to when Great White began all the way up to what the band is up to now. I ask Michael when did Great White start. M.L. Well Great White started in 1982. Great White released it 1st album, Out of the Night in 1983. C.H. Well Michael I remember seeing Great White back in 1983 as you opened for Judas Priest in New Orleans, LA. M.L.Wow that had to be at UNO arena back then. That is the great thing we love about Great White fans is stories we here from when they heard Great White or their favorite song we preformed. C.H. I,m sure you have had a song where fans have told I became a man to that song. M.L. Oh yes, That would be the song Rock Me.. C.H. Great White has sold over 8 million albums of the years. M.L. Yes we have been very blessed and fortunate and of course we have the greatest fans in the world. C.H. Then the album Twice Shy was released and that album with the hit song "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" really took you into the MTV mainstream. M.L. It really was a big hit for us, But we still remanded true our bluesy background that we loved. The only other bands in that era that was in that style was Tesla and Cinderella. C.H. Wow that that is a triple bill I would love to see together. M.L. Man we would love that also. It would be an amazing show. C.H. The opening guitar cords in Once Bitten was one that kids just learning the guitar just had to learn. I go all the way back to Beep

40

Purples Smoke On The Water to remember a song opening with that style. M.L. Oh my yes, It wasn't until 52 seconds into the song before the song launches. Now days that song wouldn't work due to kids now if song is launched in the first 10 seconds. C.H. At the show will we see new material mixed in with the classics. M.L. Oh yes.. I could not imagine doing a show and not doing our fans Great White favorite,s. One thing we do work as a band is changing our show up so when you see us again and again our will be different each time. We want to keep it classic song in out line up, But our fans never come away and say this was say Great White show we saw 2 years ago. C.H. Michael thank you so much for your time, Is there anything you want to say to Great White fans out there. M.L. To our fans THANK YOU for 30 years for your support. I can say I,v enjoyed this so much It,s like I,v never had to work a day in my life. Great White love connecting with our fans and we can not wait to see all our Central Florida fans in Daytona. You can find Great White tour information at www.greatwhiterocks.com. For the first time ever Vixen and Great White will be in concert together. Vixen hits the stage at 6pm and then Great White will hit the stage right after that. This is a free show. Sow date is March 15th at the Coca-cola Pavilion at Rossmeyer Harley Davidson, Destination Daytona. Be sure and visit the Full Throttle Tent while you are there. Ride safe bikers. See you in Daytona.

Hi all just sat down to write about a few things. Just in case if you missed the Cobras’ MC Chili Cook-off you missed some good chili, lots of raffle prices and a good time. Yes the weather wasn't the best but the chili warmed you up, the people were great, the party was good and I won the Hottest Chili!! So, if you missed out on my chili - which really isn't that hot - come out to the Pinellas County Suncoast Brotherhood chili cook-off at the American Legion Post in Dunedin on Sunday, April 6th - Mark your calendar now!! If you missed the Pasco Music Festival you missed lots of good music from some of the local band’s that played all day, with Marshall Tucker band at the end. If you are heading over to Daytona for Bikeweek you can find us at several places! The Main Street Station , Destination Daytona H-D , Cabbage Patch, Boardwalk Bike Show, and Rats Hole Show, so come by and say Hi …tell next time (Live Life to the Fullest and party you’re a$$ off ) DEW

I am sitting here looking at a newspaper I saved from March 5 2002, the Daytona Beach News Journal reads Bike week promoter Karl Big Daddy Rat Smith dies - final edition. As long as I can remember, Daddy Ray probably had more to do with bike week and bike toberfest than anyone I have known of. He had the most prestigious shows and if you won at his show, you really won something, believe me. He also promoted shows in sweden holland germany and sturgis south dakota, the scene of another large bike gathering. 'According to his step son Tiny, which also died in 2002, Daddy Rat died of a massive heart attack, not sure what he died of, maybe overweight.' His son and daughter run the shows as well as in Leesburg and Daddy Rat had so much to do with Daytona that people do not know about. At one time, they wanted to put in hurricane curbs on main street which were 7 inches high - Daddy Rat fought the law and won - the curbs were 4 inches so bikers could back their bikes into the curb. That was the headlines on March 5, 2002, quite a few years later he has not been forgotten, I remember one time someone asked him how he got involved in bike week - he

44

said he opened up a gift shop and then another one and another one and eventually one in Daytona. The gift shops put him over the hump - business was good but he did not know how good until the IRS showed up and wanted their share of monies they say he owed. They told him he was worth over a million, he said, I had no idea. He got all that straightened out. The last couple of years he had been ill like me with heart problems like me and a big one got him. He hasnt been forgotten by me or a lot of others that knew him. Somebody asked me if I was going to go to his funeral - I told them no, because he wasnt coming to mine. I like to remember people how they were, not laying in a box. I have been in the hospital and I would like to thank everyone that helped me get back out. While I was sick, Big Al told me everyday to call 911 and go to the hospital and when I got in he called me everyday to tell them to let me out. I guess he cant make up his mind. There was one person who I thought was the most professional and went beyond what she was supposed to take care of me. I was in the Oak Hill Hospital and they took really good care of me. And especially you, Analyn, thank you very much for your concern and also my friend Beth was a big help checking on me everyday, she works there now. See you soon Analyn....

Hello Florida bikers! March is here, it's getting warmer and it's time for our annual pilgrimage to Daytona for Bike Week. Time to get on that bad motor scooter and ride! Just keep it safe and get back home to your loved ones in one piece. While your in Daytona stop by one of our Full Throttle locations and say howdy. You can find us on Main Street at the Main Street Station, the Boardwalk bike show, and Destination Daytona and the Cabbage Patch. Changing gears a little bit, last month at Venom 2 on the second Sunday of the month we had a hell of a good time. If you didn't make it you missed out on a good day. Black Sun was there playing some awesome tunes. Bikers were shopping the swap meet. And the beautiful Jailbait girls were strutting their stuff and polishing bikes. The sun was shining and lots of cold beer and food was recycled the biker way. Later in the day the Jailbait girls were wrestling in the snake pit covered in chocolate pudding. Just ask Minh the owner of Venom Custom Cycles. It seems he kind of found himself being thrown in the snake pit with all that chocolate pudding and good looking ladies. He actually tried to make it look like he was resisting but some of us aren't buying it. The way he was smiling I don't think he minded much at all. The Show Down in the Snake Pit has been postponed until next month so you can go to Daytona Bike week. We're gonna do it all again on April 13th ,the second Sunday in April. Also don't forget to be at Venom 2 on the weekend of April 4th to witness the World Record Attempt by Black Suns guitar player Rusty. He will be playing all weekend so come on down and join the fun and help raise some money for Florida bikers helping Florida bikers. Red Ryder

LEATHER OR NOT This month I had the pleasure of interviewing the owner of LEATHER OR NOT, Ron Rinehart. Located at: 730 TAMIAMI TRAIL PORT CHARLOTTE, FL 33953 941-875-9380 E-mail: leatherornot@gmail.com www.leatherornotfl.com Ron Rinehart is an amazing man! He always has a smile on his face no matter what the circumstances. I’m very glad I got the chance to interview Ron otherwise I wouldn’t have known about his background (or that he just turned 60 two weeks ago!). He isn’t one to brag! I asked Ron these questions: Opened business when? FEBRUARY 13, 2009 They have expanded and grew every year since. Who inspires you the most? I used to work for 84 Lumber (20 yrs.!), so the owner (Joe Hardy) is my mentor. ”He is pretty intelligent!” Ron worked his way up to being the VP of 84 Lumber also! Best way to reach you? Phone 941-875-9380 Have you been in any other magazines? Born To Ride, BikerFL, Go For A Ride, and of course, FULL THROTTLE! What made you interested in motorcycles? Ron has been riding since the age of 12! Have any “famous” people been to this shop? No, not really…wait…the grandkids of the founder of AMZOIL. What do you offer? Ladies apparel, Ladies biker apparel, men’s biker apparel, helmets, parts, jewelry…I can order anything you may want for your bike that’s not DEALER-ONLY item. Tell me about your family? I have a lovely wife (Kathy), and we’re celebrating our 31 years together! 2 kids, Daughter (Dana) who is a school teacher in Punta Gorda; son (Joseph) who is studying to be a lawyer. How did you get the idea to open up THIS shop? I used to manage two different auto parts stores, so I envisioned opening up a bike place and ordering parts for people and supplying bike shops. From then it just grew and grew! What made you think of the name? My daughter (Dana) thought of it when she was 24. Background in building – Ron knows HOW to weld and can build a bike, BUT he doesn’t have any time! He’s always at LEATHER OR NOT with his smiling face and helpful ways. Who are the other employees? Ron says (smiling as always) “pretty much, ME!” But seriously, my wife helps out and Cindy works for me one day a week (fashion shows, etc.). Angel and Naomi work for themselves sewing on patches (Tuesday and Saturday). Where are you from? NJ (Southern NJ) He lost his accent a long time ago! In 20 years, Ron has moved 11 times! One time they were in an apartment for only 2 nights and then they moved again! It was kind of impossible to bring your tools with you when you’re “on the move”. Ron stopped trying when a mover broke his foot trying to move his tools! (LUCKILY for US, he found FLORIDA and has opened up this amazing shop!) What are your future plans? Pretty much expanding the parts and ladies apparel. Ron says in a joking voice, “I’m not leaving the business to my kids…I’ll work here til death!” What is your return policy? We do exchangeonly. Anything we sell that’s under warranty, we can take care of. Any electrical parts or special orders are non-refundable. Do you participate in any bike nights? We are going to do a few more this year. More fashion shows and more bike nights (Boomer’s – 2360 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte 941-766-16110 - a couple of Wednesday’s from now). You really have a different type business here than most. Explain why? A lot of people have started out trying to do just leather. The problem with that is when you live in FL, you buy

a leather jacket and you probably aren’t going to buy another one for 5-10 years… you’re limiting your market. Ron started out in the flea market (that was only open 3 days a week) selling novelty items and some basic parts. He then added women’s apparel. In 2.5 years, he outgrew the flea market and thus LEATHER OR NOT was “born”. Between parts and Women’s apparel, that is 90% of his line. Describe yourself in 3 words? Motivated, honest, friendly Three things you love? RIDING (when I can and when I’m not at the store!), family & friends, and travelling Three things you hate? Grumpy people, a lot of rainy weather, working here so much that I don’t get a chance to ride (Ron will even ride in the rain if that’s the only chance he gets to ride!) Why the motorcycle industry? I’ve always been a “motor-head”. I worked at GM for 3 years in Linden, NJ plant where they made all the BIG cars (Cadillac’s because they had all the quality ratings). That’s where he learned to weld (Ron is a Certified Welder also!). What is your greatest achievement? My kids! They are hard-working and honest. My daughter (Dana) wants to be an administrator in the school system. My son (Joseph) wants to be an attorney. They still live at home. His wife (Kathy) desires to be a grandmother before she dies. Ron jokes “he hopes the kids move out before he dies!” What is your biggest regret? Umm, I really can’t say I have one. I have been very lucky! What kind of bike do you have? I’ve had a Softail for years. Then in 2010, I bought a Road King so my wife would be more comfortable. What was your first bike? I have had many bikes…Dirt bikes, Street Bike Honda CV350, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki… when I was in my mid 20’s, I went to Harley’s. What is your overall favorite bike? 2008 Heritage Softail Anything else you’d like to say? “I just appreciate all the help you’ve been Nancy! My customers are wonderful! They spread the word to everybody; they give out cards all the time. They are amazing! That’s one of the best ways to advertise – have people refer you. I’d like to thank my loyal customers! I’ve been very fortunate!” I would personally want to thank RON RINEHART for sharing with me the OPEN HOUSE of TRAVIS TAYLOR THE SHOP OF ENGLEWOOD – 1670 Lantana Ave., #6, Englewood, FL 34244 that was held February 9, 2014. Without Ron, I never would have made it to this fabulous motorcycle shop in time! So, if you’re looking for somewhere to ride or just want to check out this amazing store (where you’re always greeted with a smile), come on out to LEATHER OR NOT and see what this store has to offer because they’re getting ready to GROW some more…as you’re reading this, ¬LEATHER OR NOT is expanding again and making room for their unique women’s fashions and parts!
