Afraid of Dropping your 950-lb. Motorcycle? Well, you should be. Especially if you can’t pick it up and you happen to drop your bike where there’s no one around to help you pick it back up. The good news, it’s rare that a person drops their bike on some deserted road. The drop generally happens when trying to maneuver through a crowded parking lot on a bike night or when attempting to make a U-turn on a side street. If you drop the bike at bike night, a half dozen people will run over to help you get it back up. Of course, you’ll be very embarrassed, as you should be, but that’s the worst that will happen. If you drop your bike on a side street, eventually, someone will stop and help you. But, there’s something you should know. First, if your 950 lb. Harley Ultra tips over, 99% of the time, the bike will not be damaged in any way as the crash bars will do their job and protect the bike. The 1% where the bike can get some minor damage is if the bike turtles all the way over to where the grip touches the ground. This happens if the drop occurs on an incline. In that case, you may wind up with a scratch on the top of the saddlebags or the tip of the fairing. If your bike has front and rear crash-bars, this kind of damage usually won’t happen. If your bike doesn’t have rear crash-bars as on the very popular Street Glide, get yourself a set. The real question is, why did

16

the tip over happen? Well, rider error, plain and simple. The error could be that you hit the front brake with the handlebars turned. That’s almost a guarantee drop; or, you don’t quite know how to coordinate the clutch and throttle well enough to use the friction zone. The friction zone is the gray area between where releasing the clutch and the bike starts to move, and, fully engaged, where you’ve let the clutch out all the way. Getting familiar and comfortable with the friction zone will prevent you from ever dropping your motorcycle. How can you tell if your proficient at using the friction zone? That’s easy. Try riding in a straight line at a slow walking pace. Have someone walk along side you very slowly. If you must put one or both feet down while trying this, you have NOT mastered the friction zone and you’re a drop looking for a place to happen. The only way to get the hang of this is to practice over and over until you can ride at a slow walking pace without putting a foot down. Keep your head and eyes UP! NEVER look down. Keep your rpm’s at between 1500 and 1800. Idle is not enough. If you try this just using idle, you will either stall the bike or let the clutch out too far, thereby, you’ll be going too fast. Once you’re pretty good at riding at a slow walking pace using the friction zone, try bringing the revs up a bit and dragging the rear brake. Dragging the rear brake means putting a little pressure on the rear brake while in the friction zone. You should then realize you can go even slower with complete control. Once you feel you’re in complete control, try making a 30’ circle at a slow walking pace. At that slow a pace, you won’t be able to lean the bike. But, if you can make that circle at that speed with confidence, you have a good handle on the friction zone and your chances of dropping the bike just went down and your confidence way up. Your fear of dropping your 950-lb. bike is all but eliminated and this should take about an hour’s worth of practice. Till next month, get out there and practice! What a great month we had here at Full Throttle Magazine. Our 20th Annual Motorcycle Expo was an amazing party! I hope you had a chance to make it out during at least one of the three days, the weather was awesome, the music was rockin’ and the custom bikes were jaw dropping to say the least. Following that weekend we were down in the Florida Keys fior the 2nd Annual Coral Head Music Fest, we got to spend a few more days in the sun, donated $800.00 (special Thank You to Bob DeMoss “el Diablo” who helped raise donation funds with his display of antique war bikes at the EXPO) to the “Rebuilding the Keys” charity, sponsored by the American Legion Riders, and got to spend some time with our families and good friends Buddy and Christy down in Key West. Now we prepare for the insanity that is Daytona Beach Bike Week! We’re doing a half dozen Bike Shows all over the area, including our “world famous” Boardwalk Bike Show, Daytona International Speedway, Grandview Live’s nighttime shows, and Insance Cycles and Muscle Cars (with special DYNA Class) to name a few. Check the mag for a complete list of dates and locations. Want to wish a special Happy Birthday to my dad, Paul Allen, founding father of Full

Throttle Magazine, John Kavanagh, and last but not least, Mitch Rutkin! (even though I think his birthday is in February) In other news, March marks my 1-year Anniversary here at Full Throttle Magazine. The very first event I was a part of was Daytona Beach Bike Week, I was retired from the Navy for a FULL three days when I made a phone call to Tony to see what he had planned. Things haven’t slowed down since. I get to work side-by-side with my brother/best friend, work with a talented and challenging staff of professionals, see exotic parking lots across the state , take last minute trips that require very little sleep, and meet the people/fans of the magazine everywhere we go. Thank you ALL! Here’s to the next few years!!! The Veterans Crisis Line connects Veterans in crisis and their families and friends with qualified, caring Department of Veterans Affairs responders through a confidential toll-free hotline, online chat, or text. Veterans and their loved ones can call 1-800-273-8255 and Press 1, chat online, or send a text message to 838255 to receive confidential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

With all our fundraising activities and selling raffle tickets for Full Throttle Biker Build off, our Director Robin Williams, promised the group that March was going to be designated as a “fun month”. First we wanted to thank the biker community for always stepping up to help our causes with Channel 10 Cereal for Summer, Pajama Drives for A Kids Place, Food drives for the Kind Mouse, and we were able to also sponsor a family at Kids With Cancer Holiday Party. Last year we helped many charity organizations because of all you guys. Next, we would like to thank Bill Church for allowing us to setup our tent at Quaker Steak and Lube which allows us the opportunity to help Charity organizations. Lastly, Thanks to Fran Haasch for all you do for the community, you and Rhett really ROCKED the Biker Build Off. Spring has sprung and it is riding season, First thing that comes to mind is Motorcycle

Safety… check and tighten your bolts, belts, levers and perform all your safety inspections before you get out on that long journey and ride (TCLOCK)…. When riding in a group or solo, do you have an emergency plan? Even if your bike is ready to roll, with new tires, and everything is perfect and checks out, does not mean you are trouble free. Sitting on the side of the road broken down, is not the time to ‘reflect’ on items missing from your emergency road kit. If you have AAA, you can add Road Side Assistance “motorcycle towing” for a very small annual fee and have total “peace of mind”. The Tampa Bay Chapter meets every 2nd Tuesday, 7:00pm at Quaker Steak & Lube in Clearwater (5:30-7 social meet & greet). Check http://tampabaydivaangels.com to view our chapter news. We welcome all guests to attend our rides, but only ladies are allowed to be members. Come Ride with Us!

FROM WALL STREET TO MAIN STREET WALL STREET RIDES, LLC/ MICHELLE OSBORNE 754-MONEY-AM In today’s environment it’s not how much money you earn; it’s how much you keep that is also just as important. As we have all worked too hard to earn every dollar we have made. You might think the money is safe in your personal bank account or under the mattress, this will cost you dearly. Don’t let this be you because the average rate of inflation is approximately 3% over many years. We all remember what we paid for our first house and what it is worth today. I paid $25,000 for my first house and today it would sell for $275,000. Everyone needs to pay close attention not only to their affairs but their aging parents affairs as well. It can be unsettling for investors when their portfolios and the markets start heading into the red. Here are six investing basics to keep in mind during volatile times. 1. Periods of volatility are normal - All markets move in cycles, and periods of steep contraction are completely normal. While the length of market downturns varies, periods of growth and expansion are usually waiting on the other side. Since 1973, stocks have fallen more than 10 percent and subsequently rebounded eight times.

2. Don’t panic - Letting emotions dictate your investing strategy is a risk you shouldn’t take. Shortterm decisions can have long-term consequences on your portfolio. Being patient can pay dividends. 3. Know your portfolio – Understand your investments and how specific assets represent and outcomes. Keep in mind your risk tolerance and investment timeline, and if either has changed, consider talking to us about what works for you. 4. Stay the course - Remember your financial plan and long-term goals and stick to them. A disciplined approach is the best strategy for handling market downturns and will likely enable you to participate when the markets rebound. 5. Consider opportunities - Working with your financial advisor, determine whether periods of volatility are a good time to take advantage of investment opportunities in line with your long-term plan. 6. You’re not alone - I am here and available to help you when you need it. I can guide you through difficult markets and be the independent voice that helps you stay focused on your long-term goals. Give us a call as we take a holistic approach and look at everything you have that affects yours, your family’s or your business’s financial future. Most people don’t realize the importance of reviewing their overall financial health, which can include your family, your aging parents, your business affairs until it’s too late. That’s when we usually get the call, too late. We are here to help you through the COMPLETE PROCESS. Spring has arrived and so has the beautiful weather (not that it's ever bad here) Lots and lots of bikes are on the road lately. But I am also seeing lots of disturbing things such as shorts, flip flops, high heels, and all this is being worn on a bike. Now we all know that it gets warm here in Florida, and girls we do like to look comfy and stylish while riding. But is it worth risking a foot, or a leg just for the sake of looking good? Can we wear proper gear and still look good? ABSOLUTELY!! Now I could add a few pics of some mangled feet, legs, or some chewed up skin, but you can google that, trust me it's not pretty. However on a daily basis I do see many people wearing foot wear that should only be worn to the beach or in your backyard. Florida is warm and we do like to stay cool and comfortable, and we all know high heels on a bike are sexy, but stitches cast and crutches are not.. Now I am not saying you should dress like the abomindable snowman but

48

let's at least make an attempt at some Sneakers aren't bad but boots are the preferred foot wear for safety.. Shorts make me cringe, especially after seeing road rash first hand. Not pretty, it hurts, takes forever to heal, and the bills are way to much. And on another note, it's tourist season, the roads are very congested, even the night time driving has become bad. Reflective gear, LED lights will definitely help to make us more visible on the road. Let's take every precaution we can to keep ourselves, family and friends safe on the roads. Dress for the slide not the ride people!!!! Stay safe see you on the road!!! Connie - 727-935-4875 LIVIN LIFE FULL THROTTLE

So, another month has passed through the handlebars leaving one of greatest & loudest 3 Day Expo/parties in the rearview mirrors. Because DAYTONA is BACK!! That's right, Bike Week has returned to the beautiful Shores off A1A Avenue here in the FL. I can smell it now, Hot rubber, gasoline and sunblock as fellow bikers from around the world come flowing in for bike shows, concerts, cold beer and good times with old friends. So, if you find yourself there among the masses, which I know you will. Make sure to stop by Grandview live March 12th and Thursday the 15th for our Full Throttle bike shows and dance contest #makeitrain, then shoot over to Daytona Beach Boardwalk Bike Show on March 16th $500 cash for Best in Show. The International speedway is on March 17th for our 10-class bike show where Best in Show received $1,000 and a 6ft trophy, judges Choice $500 and a 4-foot trophy. There's just too much to list so please make sure while you're in Daytona or before to pick up a March issue so you'll have the

52

events addresses & times because I don't want you to miss out. Ok, here on a local note I have some bike nights you'll be seeing me at during the month of March starting on the 2nd at the American Legion Post 186 off Cortez Blvd. From 5pm to 9pm with 50/50 raffles, fish fry and bike show. Hope to see u there. Real quick before I leave y'all alone please plz plz watch out for motorcycles! I don't know if it's just texting anymore or eating a hamburger or just not caring but people must start paying more attention while driving and my fellow brothers and sisters that ride we need to pay more attention to the drivers. I bring this up because the amount of motorcycle accidents that's happened here this last past month in Hernando, Citrus and Pasco Counties is ridiculous. Being that I was rear-ended the day after Valentine's Day on my scooter is eye opening. You can definitely Place me in the category of one of the Lucky Ones being that I was able to ride off from the accident a little sore and shooken up. So, please take care of yourself ride safe and always enjoy the open road. JC out!

“DON’T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB JUST YET” Hey fellow Anglers, have you ever thought “I want to ditch this job and make my living fishing”? Want to earn a big paycheck catchin fish? Well, I am not sure you should quit your day job just yet but there are a few Tournaments coming up soon where you can put a little jingle in your pocket. You better start prepping now for the 7th Annual Jimmy Johnson Billfish Tournament Key Largo, FL March 7th – 10th, 2018. Oh, did I forget to mention that there is a 1.5 Million dollar payout guaranteed by the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, the first Tournament ever to have a guaranteed purse of 1 Million. “Being the Best” is the mantra of this tournament and its celebrity host Coach Jimmy Johnson. Every team in this tournament trying to earn their spot in the Ring of Honor and not to mention Diamond studded Marlin Rings for each team member. While you are there fishing get ready to rub elbows with the likes of star athletes like Russell Marland, Zach Thomas, Dan Stubbs, Desmond Howard on and on. This Tournament has a big heart and not just for Bill fishing, they give over $75,000 in donations to chosen charities each year. It looks like 7 is our lucky number again because we are also fishing the 7th Annual “Ding” Darling & Doc Ford’s

60

Tarpon Tournament Friday, May 11 in Ft. Meyers, FL. This Tournament is special not only because we are raising money for the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge but it is held at historic Doc Ford’s in Ft. Meyer’s. The unique thing about this Tournament is it is 100% pay back to the anglers and there is only a max of 50 teams so the reward can be huge. Last year the #1 Team YAM won over $16,000 and we also raised $80,000 to donate to the Ding Darlin Wildlife Refuge-Win-Win. Even if you don’t fish it you should come and be a part of the party and you can donate year round to the Refuge. In 1924 & 1942, Jay Norwood Darling “Ding” was honored with a Pulitzer Prize for a cartoon that espoused hard work and nature. Mr. Darling became alarmed at the loss of wildlife habitat and the possible extinction of many species and became and early pioneer for conservation to influence a nation hence the namesake. Last Year team “Let’s Take it Outside” came in 15th in our first go around, we are looking to move up the board this year in May. Misty Wells Host of “Let’s Take It Outside” TV show & National Radio show, Outdoor Pro –Writer & Adventure Guide for Fishing & Hunting trips. Hello everyone!! Hope all of you had a great last month like we did. We were at Quaker State for the huge ... I really mean HUGE event for Florida Full Throttle’s 20th Annual Expo. A big thank you again to Tony and all the staff that helped put it together and made us part of an epic event! Keith was definitely putting his VIP status in effect. lol he was front row and center as a judge for the Miss Full Throttle bikini contest! Hopefully Fluffy and Les don’t remember I promised I would participate in the bikini contest next year ...shhhhh!!! A lot can happen in a year!! Let’s not forget the legendary Lita Ford!! Keith was able to shine once again and get to go back stage and get his picture taken with her and stay up at center stage to get some great videos and pictures of her in concert. And if that wasn’t epic enough, we had the chance to spend some time with David Ankin from the show Toymakerz... just an amazing guy! I’m still trying to get Keith down from his pedestal he was put on for that weekend! Geez!! Just kidding Babe!! I did get to shine over you a little winning First place with my new bike in the ride in contest while your bike placed second. Seriously though we made a lot of great new friends that we will be seeing more of. With all that fun still comes work. Keith has put in long days and nights again getting customers bikes done 82

and meeting all his deadlines. Before Bike week seems to always dictate just how much time he spends in the shop. He has been so busy that I had to remind him no working on bike Sunday the 25th, it’s our wedding!! As much planning and stressing out I was doing the wedding was amazing and the day couldn’t have been better. I will share pictures next month as soon as I get them! Remember BIK does anything you need from small to large builds, mild to wild, minor repairs and insurance work. We have our own painter on staff, Reggie Stone; Stone Customs and our seat guy Tommy Taylor; Seats by Tommy. We now have our own tire machine that we can install up to 30” tires. Hope to see you all up at Bike week! Keith has another fun filled week planned up there! Come say hello if you see us! And remember we are your Reps for the east coast and we can be reached at Keith 321-4828074 or Heidi 321-961-7265

Hey everyone! Another great event month! Took sum' nice rides because the weather has been beautiful for that! Rode up to Guanabana's in Jupiter. What a cool place - opened by Jupiter surfers as a sandwich shop in 2004, Guanabana's has grown to become an institution in Northern Palm beach county for these reasons, the lush tropical setting, great cuisine & cocktails & live music both from natl.' & local hot bands in south Fl.! Guanabana’s is 100% openair waterfront restaurant & bar with woven tiki huts and banyan trees towering over head, and hand chiseled coquina stone pathways underfoot. The team maintains a laid-back island atmosphere where everyone feels welcome. They also feature the Guanabana beach report, beach cam & photos of the day, it’s a cool place to ride to they have everything so go check it out if in the area! The Everglades seafood festival was another great ride with Lots of bikes - bands- vendors and tasty seafood, which included stone crabs, shrimp, and variety of fresh fish, it is by the way an old fishing village! This small town needed this 'shot in the arm' to boost the local economy due to Irma’s devastating crush to this quaint village. Thanks to all who showed up to support that community! Great Festival!

84

Next ride was to PBIR (Palm Beach International Raceway) to check out the 'Bike Bash - Single Elimination Tournament' which included a bike show, motorcycle stunt competition, burnout contest where you can win a set of new motorcycle tires! You could learn to 'wheelie' with Shawn Graves Wheelie Machine. Our good friend- Seth Buccieri- raced in this show, he has a remarkable riding - racing history - was hauled the #1 National BMX rider in the country, won numerous drag races, and is now racing his Suzuki Hayabusa, which has won him several track titles. The Suzuki Hayabusa's winning acclaim as the world’s fastest motorcycle with top speeds of 303 to 312 km/h or 188 to 192 mph. * FAST!! Go get em' Seth!! The classes at this race also included street, super street, 8 outlaw 'Run what you brung’, Gamblers bracket race- 'Run what you brung' race. Great time being a part of this fast day - check out the next big PBIR event if in the area! That's it for now - more from KJs Korner next month! Lets enjoy the ride & keep the rubber on the road! *** If you would like to advertise- Please contact me @ KJ.FullThrottleMag@gmail.comSouth Fl & Miami
