Wow! A lot has happened in just one month! October has been jam packed with events and great things going on for Full Throttle Magazine and the motorcycle community. First, I would like to thank the City of Tarpon Springs for everything they do. Full Throttle Magazine was recognized as the Medium Size Business of the Year from the Tarpon Springs Chamber of Commerce. This is truly a proud moment for me, my wife and kids and my entire staff and sales people. I am truly blessed to have great people around me who support my crazy ideas, build me up when I get down and work hard at making Full Throttle who we are today, the #1 motorcycle magazine in the state of Florida. I was also voted on to the Tarpon Springs Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors this past month as well! I am throwing my hat in the political ring, I want to help my community in every way I can. Who knows…. one day I may just run for Mayor of Tarpon Springs….. Cotee River Bike Fest was, to say the least, a huge success! Thousands of people showed up each day. Friday was windy as Hurricane Matthew was passing by on the East Coast but it made for beautiful weather for us! All the bands rocked the stage each day, we had bike shows, motorman Jerry Paladino and Bryan Marino did their shows, ACW Wrestling was awesome and everyone had a great time! The streets were packed with bikes every day. Congrats to everyone involved in making this great event happen, there are way too many to list but the committee, the city, our volunteers and our sponsors are a good place to start when saying thank you! This event is growing each and every year and keeps taking up more and more of Downtown New Port Richey. I love hearing people say if feels like Leesburg, that’s a great compliment, and I heard that saying a ton! Full Throttle has a new venture coming in March for Bike Week 2017 in Daytona Beach….. We will be running the OCEAN CENTER CONVENTION HALL for the Full Throttle Vendor Showcase! YES – the only inside venue for vendors and bikers at Bike Week, 1 block away from Main Street Daytona Beach. Vendors spaces are starting at $500 for a 10 x 10 for 8 days of bike week, Sat March 11th thru Sat March 18th . Inside vendor spaces are secure from the weather, overnight security, food and beverages available, live music, dJ’s, bikini contests, bike shows, free raffle prizes each day, FREE BEER EACH DAY AT 1PM and much more. And the best part yet… vendors will not need to get the extra permit that the city makes you get ($600) if you set up outside. So we are saving you money on that and our vendor prices are very affordable ($62.50 a day for a 10x10). If you are a vendor and you would like to be set up 1 black away from Main street… call us today at 727-935-4875 and get your space now. The Florida Motorcycle Expo and Bike Builder Invitational is right around the corner Feb 17th – 19th 2017. This year we are featuring two new items to our great event. First will be the Thill Show and Wall Of Death at the Expo. You have seen it in Daytona Beach and at all the huge rallys, now we will have it at the Expo! Also on Saturday night we are bringing in QUIET RIOT for a free concert! No tickets needed! We have bands all weekend long, tons of vendors, $1,000 miss Full Throttle Bikini Contests, $100 an hour cash givea-way, ride in bike show on Sunday and cold beer and great food! It’s one of the biggest and best events in the Tampa Bay Area! For more info visit our website at www.floridafullthrottle.com or call us at 727-9354875. I would like to say happy thanksgiving to all of our biker friends and family. Be thankful for what and who you have around you. Eat lots of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and watch football with your family! I know I will be. Happy birthday to everyone with a birthday in Nov. and ride safe, ride smart and don’t drink and ride and I’ll see you soon. STRAWBERRIES XOXO

Motorman’s Tips, Tricks and Techniques Back to the Basics:

The first thing you must master is head and eyes. What this means exactly, is that wherever you look, that’s where the bike will go. The reason the phrase head and eyes is used is that if you turn your head to the right, but your eyes look straight ahead, the technique WILL NOT work. Both your head and eyes must turn in the direction you want the bike to go. Never look down unless you want to go down. Head and eyes does take practice to become second nature. The good news is that you can practice this technique every time you are on your motorcycle. Simply pulling out of your driveway, for instance, if you are turning to the right, turn your head and eyes to the right, look down the road where you want the motorcycle to go and you’ll immediately notice you will be making a much tighter turn than normal. When you stop at a stop sign and are about to make a left hand turn, turn your head and eyes to the left, avoid looking at the curb or the center line of the road and focus on where you want the bike to end up and you will find you will never drift towards the curb or the center line of the road. You can even practice this technique on a bicycle by making U-turns on the street in front of your own home. The second technique you must learn is how to use the friction zone. The friction zone is the area on the clutch between fully open and fully closed. In other words, as you let the clutch out and the bike starts to move, you’re entering the friction zone. An easy way to become accustomed to riding the bike in the friction zone is to practice the slow race. That is simply going as slow as you possibly can without releasing the clutch completely The third technique is the proper use of the rear or controlling brake. With the motorcycle in the friction zone, keep your foot on the rear brake and apply light pressure to it as the bike starts to move. By doing this you are making the motorcycle think it’s going faster than it is. When you apply power and keep your foot on the rear brake, it keeps the motorcycle from falling over at low speeds which is where most people have a problem. I’ve never heard of anyone having problems balancing their motorcycle at 50 or 60mph. If you don’t use these techniques at 5 or 10mph the motorcycle feels clumsy and wants to fall over on it’s side. AVOID using the front brake at all costs when riding at parking lot speeds, as applying the front brake at 5 or 10mph with the handle bars turned even slightly, will pull you to the ground like a magnet. Of course, once above parking lot speeds, you must use the front brake as well as the rear brake, as 70% of your braking power comes from the front brake. Avoid dragging your feet along the ground as this tends to upset the balance of the motorcycle, and of course, if your feet are dragging on the ground you cannot have your foot on the brake. As soon as you start to move your bike from a complete stop, both feet should automatically come up to the floor boards or pegs and your right foot should be applying light pressure to the rear brake. Once you master these three simple techniques, you will be amazed at the tight maneuvers your bike can perform. You’ll know you’ve gotten it right when you can make full lock turns in both directions at 5mph with the pegs or boards scraping a perfect circle in the pavement. Remember, all it takes is a little practice. Good Luck! For more tips, tricks and techniques, lot onto my website, www.ridelikeapro.com Till next month, get out there and practice! From Wall Street to Main Street By Michelle Osborne 754-MONEYAM Are you ready to retire? Are you sure? Think about it before you say, “Yes!” Most of us really look forward to the idea of well-deserved, unstructured free time. A time to do exactly what we please when we please – travel, spend time with family, pursue hobbies, volunteer. Until we get there. A Health and Retirement Study in 2012 found that half of retirees (51.4%) reported being somewhat or not at all satisfied with their retirement. Some retiree’s underestimate how long it takes to adjust to what may be a radically different lifestyle; others miss their friends from work; still others find themselves with too much free time on their hands between grand adventures and visits with the grandkids. Like all major life events, transitioning to a retirement lifestyle can be a major adjustment, and come with a few hiccups along the way. One day, you may go from your seat at the top as a powerful executive to a lounge chair in your living room with the TV or Fido for company. The point is, without your career to define you, what will? Finding the answer takes a lot of preparation – emotionally, physically and financially – and a lot of thought. While the financial component is critical to a sustainable retirement, so is your quality of life. Too few people consider the psychological factors, which include losing your career identity, expanding social networks and spending more unscheduled time with your spouse, as well as the need to find new and engaging ways to stay active. It’s crucial that would-be retirees invest in their social, physical and psychological needs as well as their financial ones. And that takes planning. Here’s what we me All or Nothing? It turns out you don’t have to go all-in on retirement. You can transition into it, while still working. In the years before you plan to retire: Practice. Try out different aspects of your proposed retirement and see if they are as fulfilling as you imagined. Doing so, while you still have a job, can help with your eventual satisfaction in retirement. You may find you prefer a sort of hybrid retirement that perfectly blends work and leisure into the ideal mix for you. There are several benefits of continuing to work, in any capacity, while you try on retirement for size. The additional income can help you: •Avoid drawing down your retirement savings, allowing time for

26

potential future growth. •Start enjoying the retirement lifestyle that will be most fulfilling for you.•Stretch your retirement savings. Even a part-time salary will reduce the amount you’ll need to withdraw. For example, making $10,000 a year is enough to replace a 4% annual withdrawal from a $250,000 portfolio. •Delay taking Social Security, until age 70. Each year you wait adds 8% to your monthly benefits. •Reduce out-of-pocket healthcare costs since you’ll still be covered under employer-subsidized insurance. To get into the right mindset, first figure out if you really want to retire and what that may look like. Imagine how you’ll spend your days. Volunteering? Starting a business? Gardening? Traveling? Visiting friends and family? What excites you? What brings you joy? You’re looking for fulfilling activities that also fill up your time in meaningful ways. Having an emotional connection, a purpose, to your activities helps motivate you and creates a sense of contentment. So it’s important to really give some thought to what makes you happy. Allow yourself the luxury of introspection and give yourself permission to enjoy your 60s, 70s and beyond using the money you’ve saved specifically for this purpose. Once you have a good idea of what makes life more meaningful for you, take the time to experiment, explore and reflect on both your leisure and work options (e.g., part-time, consulting, moving to a new industry) to find the right balance of time, money, work and play that will become your retirement lifestyle. This work-and-play approach works best for those near traditional retirement age who are willing and able to work longer in exchange for getting a good read on their retirement readiness. A Change of Pace Of course, everyone’s vision for retirement will be different, and any decisions about this important phase of life should be based on your financial situation and comfort level. If continuing to work while dipping your toe into the retirement waters appeals to you, run the idea past your financial advisor to determine if the idea is feasible. He or she can help you determine if a more gradual approach could help you adjust emotionally and financially, so you can achieve the ultimate reward: a happy, fulfilling new life. Well, October is always a whirlwind with Biketoberfest, and too many other events to list and of course my Birthday! This year I asked for a new Battery for my Bike…apparently you need to ride it more, which having dyslexia for me means a complete state of calm ,peace ,clear mind so I will stop reversing the clutch and Throttle. Having four kids…that is not the easiest state of mind to obtain! I am getting it! The goal is to “ride mine” to Daytona. My Family in Daytona survived hurricane Mathew and I was amazed how fast that town put itself back together…at least the parts most Bikers saw. I wrote last month about all these great hidden gems, sorry every last one of them was closed due to damage. Save that thought for Bike week! Main street/Beach St/ Destination Daytona all were a blast and Daytona really pulled it off. Thank you to Full Throttle Saloon owner Michael Ballard for your encouragement and help to my family. I loved that you read my column! The next few months are packed with Biker events and a special opportunity from Bucs, Bulls and Raymond James Stadium to volunteer at all the home NFL and College games. Look for the Full throttle staff out there helping “TIFF” as our time there equals funds for this important Charity. In honor of Veterans Day any Veterans group who would like the same opportunity to earn for your 501C…please contact me lauriefullthrottle@gmail.com or my own FB page “Lauriejofullthrottle” or 941-448-5624 to be involved. You get to watch all the games as an usher and any group who volunteers with me gets a special discount on your fundraiser/charity rides event ads in full Throttle and a great way to pay for them. Every person who volunteers earns $10 an hour towards their charity. Total

win /win and I would love to help you place/create your ads and do some write ups here. November marks the 1 year passing of my beautiful Mother Linda , So remember…life is short, waste no time, take nothing for granted and do not wait for another day, tomorrow is still promised to no one. And thank you Tony C for giving me a job that has distracted me from all that used to be and an extended work family I adore. You guys keep me laughing! Congratulations on 20 years of success and integrity Full throttle Magazine!

Jeff Vitolo & The Quarter Mile Rebels played the afternoon away and I was spinning tunes during their breaks and emceed the event. The best stunt show man in Florida - Bryan Marino showed his skills for 3 different sets throughout the day. I was the person in the middle of the lot who trusted his skills while he rode circles around me. I don't know if I did a great job talking about what he was doing - but he can tell you if you ask! If you are out in the Winter Haven stop by, look around at what McKibben Powersports Honda has to offer and tell Casey Hi. So now we are in November and there are a lot of food drives - make sure you get out there and help those families who are less fortunate. Come on out to Fran Haasch's food drive at her offices in Palm Harbor on the 4th - the Full Throttle staff will be there in force to help out all day! Don't forget the Full Throttle 20th Anniversary party on November 20th at New Port Richey Harley Davidson from Noon to Dusk - come out and have some fun with us ...Till next month Live Life to the Fullest and Party Your A&& Off.. Full Throttle Magazine participated in the Achieva Credit Union Box Car Rally this past month for our first time ever. Tom and David built an amazing car in very little time! We had great sponsors help us like Attorney Fran Haasch and Quaker Steak and Lube. In fact, you will be able to check this car out inside Quaker as they are going to hang it on the wall! We raced well for our first time ever competing. Our racers were Tonya, Tyler Ashlynn and Tom and everyone won at least 1 race! Special thanks to Rick from Moto-Tow (our offical tow company for Full Throttle). We were also given the BEST CORPORATE CAR Award! This is a great event and raised money for school grants for Pinellas County. We will definitely be back next year and will be bringing some hardware home! Congrats to our entire team and our sponsors for running a great race. Tony Cianci

ALL CONTRIBUTIONS GO TO LOCAL FAMILIES

On Tuesday, October 18th, commencement ceremonies for the 98th class of law enforcement graduates took place at Pasco Hernando State College in New Port Richey, Florida. Approximately 40 proud graduates received their diplomas and many of them received special recognition for their special achievements. Newly retired Chief of Police Rob Lovering of the New Port Richey Police Department and formerly with the Tampa Police Dept. was the keynote speaker. He gave an excellent speech in which he touched upon the subject of the dangers of police work in this day and age. On one of many positive notes, he also stressed the point that in their careers these graduates would have many chances to change lives in a positive manner. Other local police dignitaries spoke with pride of their

48

police careers and wished the new graduates much success in their future careers. It was interesting to see that many of the graduates come from families with many members in law enforcement. It was very inspiring to see that there are young men and women who are willing to risk their lives to "protect and serve" and join the "thin blue line", which is a phrase meaning that only the police are between us, the law abiding citizens of this country and the criminal element intent on harming us. Our friend's son, Donny, received the "class flag", a great honor, recognizing his commitment to his law enforcement education. His family beamed with pride (as did all the families). What a great day! Norma, Mrs. Big Al

This month I had the pleasure of interviewing DANIEL BERDEN, the owner of DAN’S MOBILE V-TWIN SERVICE, LLC 2001 Cattlemen Road, #100 Sarasota, FL 34232 941-806-8712 or just text Monday-Friday 9-5pm Saturday 9-3pm Closed Sunday E-mail: DANSMOBILEVTWINSERVICELLC@gmail.com www.DANSMOBILEVTWINSERVICE.COM Facebook: DANSMOBILEVTWINSERVICE HOWEVER, this is NOT the first time I’ve interviewed Dan. Way back in MAY, 2013 (my first interview!) was with Dan! I thought it would be so neat to see the OUTSTANDING SHOP and the progress he has made in a mere 3.5 years! Dan had first opened his MOBILE service in April, 2013. With the thought of COMING TO YOU (whether it be while you’re at work, home, or anywhere else), DAN’S MOBILE V-TWIN SERVICE had it covered! Dan has plenty of experience too graduating from MMI and being the service manager/ supervisor of Manatee River H-D and Rossiter’s H-D for 10+ years. Business was going well, and after a few months, he was overwhelmed with bikes and KNEW he had to do something. That something was to open up a shop to take care of the overflow (nothing too outrageous). After all, he didn’t want to be “seen”. Dan just wanted a place to work on the HARLEY’s and give them the attention they deserved. Dan stayed at THAT location and kept up with his MOBILE SERVICE meanwhile, he hired a mechanic to help him. Again, business was GREAT (thanks to the GOOD LORD, and Dan’s hard work and perseverance), so Dan had to move to ANOTHER bigger shop (still not wanting to be seen). Well, DAN’S MOBILE V-TWIN SERVICE did such a wonderful job working on your HARLEY, that Dan had to hire 2 more employees and move to where they are now 2001 Cattlemen Road, #100, Sarasota, FL 34232 941-806-8712 This time, HE WANTS TO BE SEEN!!! With all of the stateof-art equipment that DAN’S MOBILE UNIT has, it is reflected in his new shop also! Lenny Capuano (great shovelhead and all around wonderful mechanic), Louis (Louie) Juegensen (worked at the dealerships and all around great electrical guy) and Casper Michael all have the pleasure of working at DAN’s MOBILE V-TWIN SERVICE. The building has been reconstructed by Dan and his dedicated team with all brand new lifts and all the “goodies” to wrench on the Harley’s or Harley – like bikes. What makes the new shop so special is there’s a CUSTOMER LOUNGE / meeting room to hold your next meeting or just chill out and wait for your bike

56

to be ready. DAN’S MOBILE V-TWIN SERVICE’s waiting area has a TV, couch, and coffee and water. You can even buy your T-shirt and other items there as well. Dan also has his OWN bike there painted by John St. Clair of Metal Mafia Customs. Can you guess what it WAS? Dan has done a lot of modifications to it, and when he’s through building it, you won’t be able to catch him! *FYI: DAN’S MOBILE VTWIN SERVICE was on FULL THROTTLE-VISION back in 2013! Dan’s grandfather owned a Honda shop and he gave Dan his first dirt bike at the age of 4! Dan and wife, Vicky, have two sons - Brandt (4) and Tucker (6). Both have recently been introduced to their own dirt bikes (Dan wants to carry on the tradition!). Dan is a very familyoriented man also. Vicky is the office manager (and works at the school too (plus being a photographer)! His biggest inspiration is his grandfather who passed away in 2003, but I KNOW he would be proud of all that Dan has accomplished with the help and understanding of Vicky, Brandt, and Tucker. Dan loves his family, GOD, and our country. His greatest achievement in life is marrying Vicky and his family! He dislikes disorganization and controversy. What do you offer? “The MOBILE UNIT will come to you…” It’s mostly for tire changes now, and the bigger work that needs to be done will come back to the shop…”we are not looking to see you just once…we are looking for a long-term relationship…” You have spent mucho dinero on “your baby”, and I respect that. I’ll treat your Harley like it was own. That’s the kind of service you get when you bring it to my shop (or I come to you!). DAN’S MOBILE V-TWIN covers these areas: Palmetto, Bradenton, Sarasota, Osprey, and Venice. His rates are reasonable at $80/hour. Dan (originally from Michigan) is only 43, but wishes he would have gotten into wrenching on motorcycles sooner (started in 2002). “I was a construction guy for a long time…motorcycles are in my blood… if it has 2 wheels, I love it and want to make it go faster!” My grandfather started this love of all things with 2 wheels, and I ride bikes all the time (dirt bikes, sport bikes, Honda’s and Harley’s). His overall favorite bike is a 1980 Sturgis Harley-Davidson (AWESOME!)! That is what started his passion for Harley-Davidson too! Dan really likes the technology we’re seeing in the motorcycle industry. Like the blue-tooth, it’s just amazing! Besides normal maintenance (like changing tires, oil, and basic service on your Harley), DAN’s MOBILE V-TWIN SERVICE has some really cool bikes in their shop that they are currently working on: 2004 custom built Eddie Trotta Chopper – owner dropped it off and wanted it rehabbed 2015 Custom built by DAN’s MOBILE V-TWIN – owner wanted it changed from a turbo to Nitrous! (Yea, now that’s a speed bike indeed!) What’s the most common mistake new motorcycle shops make? “ATTITUDE! There’s no place for it here! Treat people like you want to be treated! I’m grateful every time a biker brings his bike in…if I do things right, maybe he’ll come back and tell his friends… WORD OF MOUTH. That’s the best advertising you can get!” If you were starting over right now, what would you do differently? “I would have started out with a MOBILE UNIT ALONG with the shop, but you’ve got to start somewhere, right?” In Dan’s own words, “A VERY HUGE THANKS to all of YOU who have helped and supported me in this endeavor. I am VERY blessed! Thank you, Nancy, for interviewing me when I first started and spreading the word in FULL THROTTLE. “ So, why don’t YOU stop by DAN’S MOBILE V-TWIN SERVICE, LLC just to say “HEY, DAN!” Just to see what all the fuss is about! You’re going to like what you see! 2001 Cattlemen Road, #100 Sarasota, FL 34232 941-806-8712 or just text **** Til next issue, Nancy p., Full Throttle rep. Ride Safe, and RIDE WHENEVER YOU CAN!

A Greek and an Irishman were sitting in a Starbuck’s cafe one day discussing who had the superior culture. Over triple lattes the Greek guy says, ‘Well, we Greeks built the Parthenon,’ arching his eyebrows. The Irishman then replies, ‘Well... it was the Irish that discovered the Summer and Winter Solstices.’ The Greek retorts, ‘We Greeks gave birth to advanced mathematics.’ The Irishman, nodding in agreement, says, ‘Irish were the ones who built the first timepieces and calendars.’ And so on until the Greek comes up with what he thinks will end the discussion. With a flourish of finality he says, ‘The Greeks were the ones who invented sex!’ The Irishman replies, ‘Indeed, that is true, but it was we Irish who introduced it to women.’

************************** After 35 years of marriage, a husband and wife came for counseling. When asked what the problem was, the wife went into a tirade listing every problem they had ever had in the years they had been married. On and on and on: neglect, lack of intimacy, emptiness, loneliness, feeling unloved and unlovable an entire laundry list of unmet needs she had endured. Finally, after allowing this for a sufficient length of time, the therapist got up, walked around the desk and after asking the wife to stand, he embraced and kissed her long and passionately as her husband watched, with a raised eyebrow. The woman shut up and quietly sat down in a daze. The therapist turned to the husband and said, “This is what your wife needs at least 3 times a week. Can you do this?” “Well, I can drop her off here on Mondays and Wednesdays, but on Fridays I fish.” ********************* Always love a woman for her personality. After all they have like 10 different ones, so you can choose........

Biketoberfest fest was a great time like it always is but it was definitely effected by the hurricane. I have heard that the attendance was less than half of what was expected for Daytona Beach Biketoberfest this year from numerous sources. A lot of the hotels on A1A were not even open due to damage from hurricane Matthew. Full Throttle usually stays at the El Caribe and we were moved down to the Best Western Aku Tiki, a great place by the way! We still hosted our two bike shows sponsored by Attorney Fran Haasch (www.lawfran.com or 866-LAWFRAN) The Boardwalk Bike Show and The Speedway Bike Show. Both shows were judged by an pro-builder and Master Judge for the IMBBA, Steve Galvin. We had decent turn outs for both shows. We would like to thank everyone who entered their bikes in our shows in Daytona Beach this year and we are looking forward to Bike Week in March! See you in Daytona for BIKE WEEK 2017!
