Here’s a cool scientific experiment you can try at home kids. The next time you’re out cruising around on your motorcycle, find an empty parking lot or deserted road. Place a plastic cone, empty soda can, etc., on the ground. Get about 100 yards away from the can or marker while getting up to 20 or 30 mph, look right at the marker and try to hit it. You should find that you can hit it every time, regardless of your speed, if you keep looking at the marker. Why? Because your hands naturally follow your eyes and your hands will steer you right into whatever you’re looking at. This will work on your motorcycle, car, skateboard, ski’s, etc. This phenomenon is both good and bad news. The bad news, if you’re on your motorcycle coming around a curve and you look at the double yellow line, you’re going to run across that double yellow line. The good news about this phenomenon is if you look where you want to go, which in this case is towards the end of the curve, you will go there. The problem, your instincts tell you to look at the very thing you don’t want to hit. The only way to correct your instinct is repetition. You must practice turning your head and eyes to look ONLY where you want to go. The easiest way to do this on your motorcycle is to find an empty parking lot and begin turning big 100’ circles
16
in both directions. Do not use any markers and make sure there is nothing to hit such as concrete parking space markers or potholes. A good way to do this is to circle around a light pole. Two big circles to the left then two big circles to the right. As you get comfortable, start tightening up the circles. When you get down to about 30’ circles, move away from the pole and just keep turning your head and eyes over your left shoulder, then your right shoulder. In essence, you’re looking behind yourself like an Owl throughout the circle. I’ve heard people say this is difficult because “I feel like I’m not looking where I’m going”. That sensation occurs because as I stated, your instincts are wrong. If you’re turning a circle to the left and your head and eyes are looking over your shoulder to the left, you are looking where you’re going. It’s your brain that’s telling you to look straight. Since there’s no straight part to a circle, obeying your brain will cause you to turn your head and eyes straight ahead and since the hands will follow the eyes, you will wind up pulling out of the circle and going straight ahead. As looking over your shoulder gets easier, draw an X on the ground with chalk or duct tape. The idea is to start making big figure 8’s. You want to run over the X. Every time you run it over turn your head and eyes and try to find that X again. It doesn’t matter how big your figure 8 is, the point is to train yourself to look at where you want to go. In this case, where you want to go is right over the X you drew on the ground. The sooner you find that X, the tighter your figure 8 will become. You will also get very good at transitioning quickly from left to right and right to left. With an hour of this type of practice, you’ll get darn good at looking only where you want to go. Soon, technique will overcome instinct. Till next month, get out there and practice. Jerry “Motorman” Palladino www.ridelikeapro.com copyright 2017 Jerry "Motorman" Palladino

Here we are in the month of October! It’s that time of year when the Florida temperatures start to be favorable for the motorcycle community, and to the community of “snowbirds” that are starting to flock to the Sunshine State. We have a lot of great things happening around the area this month: The Full Throttle Fall Fest, Biketoberfest, Quaker Steak and Lube, Brandon HD, Thunder Beach and the rescheduled Full Throttle 5 Bridge Poker Run. Tallahassee H-D also served lunch to all of the first responders after Irma knocked out power and knocked down trees here in Tallahassee. Thank you, first responders. The road runners will be having their annual angel run on the 14th of October starting a Tallahassee H-D and ending at shucker’s oyster bar on Lake Jackson here in Tallahassee, Fl. Lots of fun food and prizes. So, if you are looking for something to do and somewhere to go, come on up to Tallahassee and check it out. Until next month, remember to ride safe no matter what you ride. Keelhauler

PA. VS FL.
Recently I took a trip back to my hometown in Pennsylvania to visit family. During that trip I was taking a lot of pics and while shooting some of these pics, I found myself comparing roads, Pa. vs. Fl. We spent many years riding the back roads, side roads, and dirt roads and although I do love a nice ride in the country, I have found myself appreciating riding next to the ocean and being able to see sites I have never before seen. We took a ride one day with our good friend, Farrel Bernstein, a fantastic jewelry designer who is what I would
48
call "The epitome of Ole Skool". He led the ride for us and we gladly followed. I saw so many different species of animals, so many different landscapes, and I could not put the camera down while enjoying my ride on the back of the bike. Now mind you, Pa has some fabulous roads to ride on but I realized that everything here is so new and different that I found myself falling in love with Florida. Farrel led us through Aropeka and into Weeki Wachee some very bare roads with almost no traffic and we ended up at a restaurant on the water and it was beautiful. These roads were definitely off the beaten path and we would never have found them if it weren't for Farrel. So with that said, I do love my home state of Pa. But I am quickly falling in love with my new home state of Florida. Ride safe everyone!!!!!!! Connie

Hi Everyone! What a month! Our Event Calendar hit a Kabosh due to hurricane Irma - our hearts go out to all that were impacted! Our dear neighbors in the Keys have lost so much but over time will rebuild & be bigger & better! Most of our venues in & around Ft. Lauderdale are up & running despite a week or two of power outages, so let’s support our community by attending our local businesses after their hurricane hiatus! Felt lucky to be able to squeeze in a few events & rides around town. Attended an American Legion ride - Patriot guard riders were in great attendance at a local fair with approx. 80+ bikes - all flying flags! So patriotic & a beautiful sight to behold! All the branches of armed services were present. The Legion pastor opened & closed the ceremony thanking all those who served-a very moving tribute! There was a lot of gratitude & interest by everyone including congressmen & politicians who served, but also by the younger crowd - very impressive! The Legion's biggest turnout ever! Rode up to Jupiter FL to a long standing eatery 'Harry & the Natives' in Hobe Sound where many bikers have retired from Ft. Lauderdale & Miami. Met up with Goldflake Herb & his buddies, a group of bikers who meet there every Wed. showing off their new or upgraded bikes. There are always a lot of great stories
50
shared. They have the best down-home cooking & unique atmosphere, such a cool, hip, funky place featuring live music & frequent BBQ's. They are known for their pig roasts that are grilled in the engine area of an old Ford pickup, Hilariously different! If you’re up there check out their specials, like Jumpin' Monkey French toast or the Apple-pear gorgonzola burger! I also attended one of our local Hot spots, Dania Beach Bar & Grill- "Best kept secret on the Beach"! Good food & great live music! JP Soars and the Red Hots were playing - not the typical blues guitarist. He has a diverse musical background that encompasses a multitude of influences. But his specialty is playing his homemade cigar box guitars which surprisingly sounds amazing, definitely a show to check out!! * Remember it’s not the strength of the gale but the set of the sail that determines your direction. That's it for now - more from KJ's Korner next month! Let’s enjoy the ride & keep the rubber on the road! ** If you would like to advertise Please contact me at 518-928-7900- South Florida & Miami

Keys to Snook Fishing
Snook season is open and many anglers are trying to figure out how to land that “big one” or land one at all. There are a few things you need to think about when you are going after that allusive fish, they are smart. First of all know your slot size, in Florida it is between 28 – 32 inches measured from the Chin to the Tip of the Tail. In Florida you are allowed to keep 1 legal Snook per day until December 15th midnight, if you don’t take the right steps it might take you that long to land a keeper. There are some essentials you have to pay attention to when trying to land that prize “linesider” Location, Equipment, Bait Hatch and Moon and Tide. Location is important as Snook are ambush predators they lay in wait in the perfect spot to catch their prey by surprise. Some of their favorite places to hang out are Docks, Bridges and Piers where they can hide along the shadows and wait to bait to swim by without being seen. Mangroves are another great place for them to ambush their prey, you need to look for the edges of the Mangroves where there are some deep pockets of water with sandy bottom, grass and Mangroves along the edges with good water flow. Equipment and Bait are very important, I recommend a light saltwater spinning or bait casting setup. 30 lbs. of braid should cover most situations with a fluorocarbon leader between 15-40 lbs. depending the water clarity. Snook are often caught by pitching lures or live baits near docks and other inshore structure that we discussed. This technique also works very well for the fishing along the Mangroves and allowing your live bait to swim with the current along the edges like they would naturally.
Moon and Tide are very important if you want to be successful you really need to pay attention to this. Snook like most fish are very sensitive to the tides and the changing of tides for feeding. Most times if the tides are not moving Snook just won’t feed but as soon as that tide changes it is like someone turned on the switch and they start feeding like crazy. On the wrong tide they are impossible to catch, on the right tide it is impossible not to catch them. Bait like in life is very important to get what you want. Depending on where you live it may vary but most of the time live Shrimp, live Pilchards and live Sardines work great. It is important to pay attention to what bait is swimming in your area and to be sure to match what is natural. Snook have a hard time turning down a fresh live bait, remember to change your live bait often. If you are more of a lure type person then I suggest throwing Jerk Shads, DOA Shrimp, Bucktail jigs and the occasional Topwater Plug. Snook also love to feed at night especially under the docks lights, and it is much cooler time to fish. Tight Lines and be sure to send in your questions and pictures to Florida Full Throttle Facebook page, we want to see you “Fishing Full Throttle”. What a month. Should I talk about the storm? I don't think so! We all know it happened and what it did. I will leave it at that. What a fantastic month we had. Should I say road trip. Full Throttle Magazine went on a big road trip and got out of the office. The big AIMExpo was up in Ohio at the Columbus Convention Center. If you have never been to this before you really should go. The convention is all about new innovation in the motorcycle industry. So many new products come out every year. While we were there, I started thinking about how close to Virginia we were. That's where Belmont Farm’s Distillery is and the home of Climax Moonshine. Tim Smith and Climax just launched a big advertising campaign with us and thought we should go visit the distillery. I gave Tim a call and he invited us down for a meet and greet with Him and Tickle from the Moonshiners show. They were filming the new season and all the Discovery Channel directors were there. What a fun time. We got to see the whole operation and how everything was made. After seeing this, it really gives you appreciation for the product he makes. So much goes into it. If
you haven't tried Climax Moonshine you don't know what you are missing. We were getting to leave when we met Chuck from the show. He is Tim's partner at the distillery. We talked a little bit when I mentioned a 2 or 3-day bike fest at the distillery. Let me tell you. he jumped at the chance. So, look for up and coming updates on this. Maybe around May or June 2018. This will be one hell of a good time. To change the subject a little bit. we know you all have been asking for more pretty girls to read the Magazine and to do the Facebook LIVE lunch breaks. We listened and put some things in place. I would like to introduce Marie Robertson our new Full Throttle girl. Look for her on Facebook. We are moving into that time of year. The snow birds come back and we get real busy. The bike nights really amp up and we go wide open. So just be careful out there and ride safe. See you at all the awesome bike events that are on the way. Stop and say hello. Les Tolliver - Sales Manager and Event Organizer 727-534-4447 Les.FullThrottleMagazine@gmail.com
