Happy Halloween and welcome to the Holiday Season! I hope you had a great Summer and, like us, I am sure you are looking forward to cooler days, less rain and better riding weather! There are so many great events coming up, be sure to stay informed by reading the magazine every month and checking out our Facebook page every day. Find us on Facebook by searching FLORIDA FULL THROTTLE and clicking the like button or find us on Instagram the same way! We tried starting a new Wed. bike night at Buffalo Wild Wings but permitting issues by the city got in the way and put a halt on everything. So, we decided, why not make a MYSTERY POKER RUN every Wed. Night instead of having everyone sitting in a parking lot. We will be starting at a new place each month, then traveling to different locations from there. It will be $5 per poker hand and winner will take all each week. Let’s get out there and ride and visit new places each week! If you are interested in being one of our stops, please feel free to call our office at 727-935-4875. Full Throttle will be out at Cotee River Bike Fest this month in Downtown New Port Richey. We will have a booth there so come by and pick up your new issue of Full Throttle. We will also be hosting a bike show at bootleggers on Satur-

8

day Oct 13th. There will be CUSTOM METAL TROPHIES made by J Sizzle concepts and Misfit Metal Works. Check out the ad in this month’s magazine for more info. Full Throttle will be all over Daytona Beach for Biketoberfest. You will be able to find our booth at the Daytona International Speedway. On Friday Oct. 19th we host the Boardwalk Bike Show on the Daytona Beach Boardwalk. It is always one of the largest bike shows during Biketoberfest. There is discounted registration from 8am till 10am with awards at 4pm. Then Friday night we head over to Grandview Live for an evening bike show and sound competition. Saturday Oct. 20th we will be at the Daytona International Speedway doing our 10-class bike show sponsored by Geico. There is also a sound competition sponsored by Low Life Industries for $500 cash prizes! Then we will be back at Grandview Live for another evening bike show. Sunday Oct. 21st we are heading over to Orlando Harley-Davidson for a bike show at their Hogtoberfest event. All the information can be found in this month’s issue and on our Facebook page. We hope to see you all in Daytona Beach! There are some great events in November coming up quickly. On Friday November 2nd Attorney Fran Haasch has her 10th annual food drive at their offices in Palm Harbor! This is a great cause that feeds a lot of needy families in Pinellas County. Then the weekend before Thanksgiving is Bert’s Barracuda Harley-Davidson St. Pete Beach Bike Week. They have great bands playing like Travis Tritt, Sister Hazel and 38 Special! Be sure to mark your calendars for all these great events. Ride safe, ride smart, don’t drink and ride and I will see you soon! Happy Halloween to everyone!

The Timid Rider: This month, I’m going to talk to you about the timid rider. Everyone knows at least one timid rider and in fact, you may even be one and not know it. You may even think as all timid riders do, that you’re just being cautious. There is however a big difference between cautious and timid. In order for you to understand the difference, let me introduce you to “Timid Tony”. Tony is someone I actually know, but of course, I’ve changed his name, even though I’m sure he wouldn’t recognize himself in this article. Tony’s been riding for more than 30 years, but in all that time, he’s lucky to have traveled twenty thousand miles. Tony is a real short guy, maybe 5’2", and feels that he absolutely has to have both feet firmly planted on the ground on whatever bike he rides, and of course, he has to ride a big heavy Harley cruiser. That means he has to lower the bike considerably, so he has the bike lowered 3 inches in the back. That means he now has severely limited the ground clearance and has virtually no suspension travel on his bike. In short, (no pun intended), he can’t lean the bike now since it will rub the frame on the ground and lever a tire. That’s ok, because Tony is scared to death of leaning his motorcycle anyway and it gives him a great excuse as to why he has to slow down to a walking pace to make a turn. This causes a major problem for the group riders behind Timid Tony and like most timid riders, Tony loves group riding. It’s also very annoying to the riders in front of him because they all have to

16

slow down to allow Tony and the riders behind him to catch up. This causes another problem. Tony and the poor bastards behind him now have to accelerate rather quickly to catch up since the riders in front had to slow, you now have the classic accordion effect. Timid Tony has no faith in his brakes or his braking ability and almost never uses his front brake because he believes it will put him over the handlebars. He starts braking slowly, the riders behind do likewise and before anybody realizes what’s happening, Tony now jams on the rear brake and starts to slide sideways. The riders behind are now put into a panic braking situation for no reason. Maybe he lucks out and via dumb luck, avoids a crash. The problem is, Timid Tony is now scared even more than he normally is and slows down even more than usual. Since he’s now obstructing traffic, cars start to pull around him and wind up splitting the group ride even further. All this occurs because Timid Tony is afraid of his motorcycle and has no confidence in his ability to control his bike. Let me add, Timid Tony has taken an experienced riders course. He listened intently as the instructors told him what he was doing wrong, but stubbornly, he refused to use any of the techniques they instructed him to apply. In other words, the course was a waste of time for Tony. So, what should you do if Timid Tony reminds you of yourself? First, don’t lower your bike more than one inch. Instead, have the seat cut down 2 or 3 inches, that way, you won’t severely limit your lean angle. You can also buy a lighter weight bike. Maybe a Standard would be better for you. Their seat heights are higher, a Standard or naked bike as they’re called, now can weigh 1/2 of what a cruiser does and can be balanced easily on one foot. Their shorter wheelbase also makes them a lot easier to maneuver at low speeds. The next thing to do is to retake the MSF Beginners Course, then a few thousand miles later, take the Experienced Riders Course. As you gain confidence, you might even try one of the track day courses. If none of these work, find another sport, quit riding and save yourself and everyone around you a lot of grief. Remember, riding a motorcycle takes skill and confidence. If you have neither, you should not be riding. Remember, all it takes is a little practice. Good Luck! Is it really October already? Las Vegas, Biketoberfest, Marathon Key, Thunder Beach and the Cotee River Bike Fest all on the schedule for the month. Gonna be a busy one! I know that I am personally looking forward to a little bit of cooler weather, less humidity and less rain in the forecast. Also, looking forward to getting my baby out on her bike this month! I know that she has been anxiously awaiting getting her bike back, and Salty Dogs is doing a great job getting her in shape!

DID YOU KNOW: (In the spirit of the newly pinned CPO’s running amok across the fleet): What the Chief Petty Officer’s Anchors Symbolize?

Congrats to NAS Oceana Class 125. Navy Chief, Navy Pride!

The fouled anchor has long been the symbol of the Chief Petty Officer. In terms of the Chief, the fouled anchor symbolizes the trials and tribulations that every Chief Petty Officer must endure on a daily basis. The "USN" stands for Unity, Service and Navigation, sym-

With the markets at an all-time high and going in to a volatile quarter, it is more important than ever to make sure you lock in gains as well as cover any possible downside. Make sure your situation is protected from every angle. Just like when you ride In this month’s article we are going to talk about a few options that may help you derive meaningful income from your hard-earned dollars while reducing risk, including ways to effectively position your money and optimize your interaction with Uncle Sam. I know a lot of people that love to ride, and most of the time, riders that have successful journeys make sure they have gas in their tank, provisions in their bags, and an understanding of the roads they are about to travel down. With retirement nearing for many in our biking community, it is increasingly vital that you carefully examine your financial gas tank, investment provisions bag, and your map for the financial road ahead. This means, understanding the income level you will need, how long you may need that income to last, and what challenging tax implications you could be fac-

ing in retirement? Have you ever wondered how your investments could generate income for life? Well, there are several investment vehicles that can provide you with income for life, but you may need a vehicle that also has the opportunity to grow your principal. Many of my clients are enjoying the benefits of increased income while still retaining the opportunity for principal growth. Speaking of retirement, some of my clients have decided that they are now ready to sell their business and/or real estate assets (rental homes, apartment complexes, commercial buildings, etc.) In some cases, selling your real estate investment holdings could cost you as much as 35% in taxes. I have been helping my clients with situations like this throughout my career. So, when it comes to selling your real estate or your business, contact us PRIOR TO the sale so we can explain your options and explore the possibility of never paying a dime in capital gains tax. So, whether you are rolling over your retirement assets, selling your business, selling your real estate investments, or receiving a settlement from an accident, I will use my expertise to work diligently and make your principal work hard for you; as hard for you as you worked for it. I take a helicopter approach to investing that includes every aspect of your financial house including your income, tax situation, and family legacy. With so many options out there, it is hard to determine how to get the most from your money without specialized advice. I can help. (754-MONEYAM/1-754-666-3926) mobile 727-459-4875 HAPPY RIDING! Well, let me tell you, I call my article Tolliver's travels for a reason. We have been all over the east coast up through the Midwest out to Sturgis. Between Ocean City, Laconia, Milwaukee, and Sturgis we have logged some miles. Traveling around the country doing bike shows and enjoying the biker community has been a dream come true. We have met so many interesting people along the way it really shows you just how strong the biker community is. Next up is Las Vegas bike week and the AIM expo before settling down and getting ready for our season here in Florida. Yes, that’s right, Fall is finally here. It hasn't really cooled off yet but when you see the colors of the license plates start to change you no cool weather is on the way and we can't wait. We have so many up and coming events for everyone this winter. Not to mention EXPO is in the air. Stay tuned for all the announcements in the mag and on our social media. Before

I change gears here like always be safe and ride free. While up in Milwaukee walking around vendor village I came across a product that really caught my attention. The funny thing about this is I thought of this a few years ago but never pursued it. A back-rest organizer for the passenger. If your girlfriend of wife or whoever is on the back needs a place to put stuff this was the ultimate prize. What a great product. I have one on my back rest for my wife and she loves it. She can store all her stuff. Phone, sun screen wallet, and even something to drink right at her finger tips. It is the perfect organizer for long rides. You must check them out for yourself. BONE MOUNTAIN MOTOR GEAR their website is BONEMOUNTAIN.com if you’re going to Biketoberfest look for them. Not sure where they will be, but no they will be there. I personally want to thank the Biker Community YOU GUYS & GALS ROCK. Big thanks for coming out and supporting Full Throttle events. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming events. Don't forget to check out Full Throttle Magazine and all of our social media and email blast for new Bike Nights and Events happening in the Tampa Bay Area. Here we go Once again, another busy and exciting month has passed. As we transition from summer to fall be very mindful of the influx of northern s coming into the area, another words “WATCH OF FOR THE SNOWBIRDS because we know they don't see Biker's. I know I have said this before, BUT I think this should be reiterated more and more as we (the biker community) lose way to many biker's as it is. On the same note Biker's (you know who you are) should also slow down and ride like you have some sense. If you are in that big of a hurry cager's and biker's, simple solution:

I can't believe it's been four years since my Little Boy Eason (not so little anymore) aka Lil Fluff started his career as an athlete and oh what a ride it's been to watch him mature into the athlete he's becoming. Going from teaching him to play multiple positions on the offense & defensive line from his very first year in youth league to taking him to Colleges Ave Maria, FSU, Florida Tech and watching him mature there, to going out and playing 1st Base in Baseball on his High School Varsity Teams. Going to enjoy this ride for sure. That’s right a $100.00 bill to the winner. After

46

the 3-day event at Cottee we'll be back at JT'S Roadhouse the 16th and man do I love this place. 50.cent wings, pulled pork plate for $4. and ice-cold beer. There will also be a wet T-shirt contest with $100.00 cash prize and a ride in bike show from 6-10. So, make sure you come out and enjoy these awesome bike nights with us before we leave for Daytona. That’s right This guy is heading to the east coast with the rest of the Full Throttle Family for Biketoberfest. This will be the 1st time I've been so I hope the guys take it easy on me (not going to happen). I'm really looking forward to trip and seeing all the hard work people put in to their rides. If you find yourself going to any of our great bike nights or Daytona please ride safe and look out for each other. I'm over seeing and hearing about bikers being down or killed on our road ways due to people not paying attention. So please be careful out there. One more thing, the most important thing. I want to give a very special Happy b-day shout out to the woman that brought me into this world and has done everything for my family and all without wanting anything in return. My beautiful mother Sudie Staten. I love you so much and thank you for everything my little riding buddy. Alright everyone, enjoy this October and have a Happy Halloween. Sizzle out!

The question I have been asking the last few months to our elected officials currently in Tallahassee and those seeking a seat at the Local, State and National level is, why does the State of Florida care more about the lives of automobile operators and passengers than it does the lives of motorcyclist and our passengers? Of course, the first answer I always get in not so many words is your insane we don’t. I am here to call BS and to tell you, they don’t! I then begin my tale of motorcycle safety and education Vs automobile training in the State of Florida or more importantly the lack there of. I explain to them the reality of how it works to get a motorcycle endorsement in Florida. I pay someone between $200 and $250 whose business it is to a teach a class so you can obtain your motorcycle endorsement. Now this businesses goal is to make money, train riders, and certify you can operate a motorcycle safely in ALL circumstances. Now I fully admit that growing up in a Suburb of Milwaukee where Harley Davidson had an assembly plant, endorsements were not necessarily a necessity of life. Having a criminal Justice back ground I knew exactly what the law was and what was needed to get an endorsement including a practical road test on the bike I wanted to ride on the streets and highways of Wisconsin. I did not get an official motorcycle endorsement until almost 30 years after I began riding when I moved to the State of Florida. This is my own experience on getting that endorsement. On Saturday and Sunday mornings I had class room time where we discussed motorcycles and a safety. In the afternoon we went out to a parking lot and rode little 250cc motorcycle that had very little practicality to the 1600 cc Vulcan Motorcycle I owned. If I passed the written portion of the exam and didn’t crash during the practical exam portion I was golden. Come Wednesday I went to the DMV and got my endorsement, no road test nothing more required. I ask the candidates and elected officials how in the world is this like what is needed to get an endorsement to operate a motor vehicle? No lengthy class room or behind the wheel experience, no probationary period to practice and hone your driving skill before you must take your practical road test. I then talk about the guy who takes one of these quickie courses over the weekend, goes out and buys a 1100 cc road racing bike while waiting for his endorsement paper work to go thru (oh yeah without an endorsement to ride a bike because the State of Florida does not require one to purchase a motorcycle). Now Wednesday afternoon comes along and he jumps on his new bike to go to the DMV to get his new license with his motorcycle endorsement. Now even though he has no real practical experience in riding except for the little 250cc minibike during the course, he picks up his girlfriend to go to a bike night somewhere except they both die that evening on the way there because he has no skill handling the rocket between his legs much less with his girlfriend hanging on for dear life on the back of it. The usual reaction is wow has that really happened? You tell me? That is the kick in the pants I use to get them to listen to us. Boom in your face here we are; Suncoast Brotherhood is trying to lead the way into the new era of motorcycle safety and training in the State of Florida in a very serious effort to stop the killing of our fellow riders. We have been searching for folks in and out of office we believe will help us make Florida’s road ways safer for not only motorcyclists but the public in general. SCBH leadership had very real conversations with the folks who can help us make this a reality. We have had frank discussions with folks seeking seats in both the Florida State House of Representatives and well as the State Senate. We have existing relationships with Pinellas County officials, Law Enforcement Officers and members of various branches of the Pinellas and Pasco County judicial system. We want to see once and for all distracted drivers, i.e. cell phone abusers, move from a secondary offense to a primary offense. We need this to save lives across the state. We need to see better education and training of new people seeking motorcycle endorsements. To accomplish this, we at Suncoast Brotherhood we are teaming up with a few people to help us accomplish these tasks. One of our primary folks is former State Representative Ed Hooper of Clearwater, Ed is running for the 16th Senate District of Florida which covers Pinellas County from

66

Belleair Road north into Pasco County to State Road 52. Ed Hooper has the kind of leadership we have been looking for in the motorcycle community. We believe Ed's credentials speak for themselves; he was a Clearwater Fire Fighter for 24 years, a member of the Clearwater City Commission from 1996 - 2000; Vice Mayor of Clearwater from 1999 – 2000, was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2006, and subsequently reelected until 2014 when he left due to term limits. Its funny in the climate of politics as we now have, I have read political adds describing Ed as a “Failed Politician”, wouldn’t that be someone who failed to get elected, not someone who was elected so many times as a State Representative they he could not run for that office any more due to term limits? Another candidate we are looking to for help in this endeavor is Ray Blacklidge, Ray is running for State Representative of Florida in the 69th District. Ray is a local attorney and businessman who cares about the live lost on Florida’s highways, our community and its future. Ray has many years of experience serving in significant roles of public policy development, legislative drafting, advocacy, lobbying, regulatory compliance, litigation, public affairs, insurance transaction drafting and execution. Like Ed Hooper we believe Ray Blacklidge is someone who we at Suncoast Brotherhood believe shares not only our concerns, but the importance of making changes to existing laws and regulation that will make riding motorcycles riding on Florida’s highways safer. In addition to our two candidates for State office SCBH would also be endorsing for Pinellas County Commissioner Dave Eggers. Thankfully Commissioner Eggers is running unopposed in his race for Pinellas County Commissioner. If Dave had an opponent would tell you about all the wonderful things Dave Eggers has done as a Pinellas County Commissioner as well as his tenure as the Mayor of Dunedin. Instead I will just tell the folks of Pinellas County how fortunate we are to have Dave representing us in local government. While serving Dunedin as it Mayor Dave Eggers worked closely with Suncoast Brotherhood and our efforts to support foster and adoptive care in both Pinellas and Pasco Counties. We at SCBH would if he was running be proud to endorse Dave, we are equally proud to call him a friend and advocate of SCBH. As the last Presidential election has shown us, members of the motorcycle community have become a recognized large block of voters and it is now time that we start exercising that political clout. Now is the time for MROs like Suncoast Brotherhood to stop being a group of riders that only react to proposed legislation and existing laws concerning motorcycle issues but become a Motorcycle Rights Organization that seeks to protect and educate current, new, and most importantly future riders, and to seek ways to decrease this alarming trend of riders becoming seriously injured or killed on roadways in the State of Florida. In closing I want to reemphasize what I said at the top of the article. I ride, I vote. We need you to make sure you get out and vote also, our lives literally are at stake. John Makal SCBH Legislative Trustee

Hey everyone and welcome to October in The Florida Keys! We had some fun in September down here at the bottom. Christy and I drove up to Key Largo on the 15th and as always stopped by Gilberts Last Resort. There was a buzz in the air, and a lot of riders there for the Peterson’s Poker Run. We heard some great live music, met some great people, and then headed on down US-1. So many bikes up and down the highway on that beautiful sunny day. Later that night we ended up at The Peterson’s After Party at Sand Bar where we threw down with riders from out of town and locals alike. Passed out some swag, watched a little football and promoted our upcoming Full Throttle Keys Poker Run. Mad thanks to Joe and the staff and crew at Sand Bar for inviting us out and taking great care of us! We had an absolutely amazing time! Let’s talk about October now and all the amazing things that are happening in The Keys. It is a tranquil time down here this time of year. The weather begins to cool down and is usually glorious. And when it comes to Florida Keys events in October is there really anything to talk about other than the Goombay Festival and Fantasy Fest? Friday the 19th kicks everything off with Goombay, and exuberant street party that showcases island arts, crafts, music and food. And my goodness the food! It takes place in the heart of Key

82

West’s Bahama Village and is a family friendly event that you have to see. Then on Sunday October 21st come down and rise from the dead by joining the Zombie Bike Ride! Don your best zombie attire and join the hundreds of undead in a colorful cruise from Fort East Martello Tower and ending on Duval Street. And of course, FANTASY FEST. This year’s theme is “Oh The Games We Play’, so get creative with your costumes and come down and see us for a week of themed parties, parades, and spooky good times. And for all your costume needs shop local and go to Imagination Station in Key West! Christy works there with Donna and will make sure you find what you need. I will be joining the crew in Daytona for Biketoberfest! So you can catch me up there instead of the festivities down here. But if you find yourself headed down, be safe and have great time! I want to leave you with a little history, as always. In October of 1968 Honda released the CB750/four. This gave the Japanese a strong grip on superior full size motorcycles. Not to be outdone, or dissolved, shortly thereafter a merger was worked out between AMF and Harley Davidson. Later that winter Easy Rider was released. All of these events tied into the revolutionizing of motorcycles and the creation of the modern cruiser. Everyone take care until next month! If you want to advertise with us email me at buddyleeftmag@gmail.com or call 305-509-0961.

Hi, Everyone! It was another great event month in South Florida! So much going on as far as- events, bands and rides! We took an awesome ride with the American Legion Riders post 194 Upstate! It was a great turnout of approx. 170 riders and logging 150 + miles through cool little towns and making 4 stops on the Poker run to benefit the Vets! Thanks to everyone for making the effort to go & support our Vets!! Great time - great food -great riding! On to Alligator Alley HD in Sunrise for their Luau party unveiling the new 2019 Bikes - very hot looking new machines! The store was all decked out in Hawaiian theme decor and they even had a few Beautiful Hawaiian dressed gals dancing around the store and teaching any willing participant how to dance the Hula- festive day to breakout the new Bikes! Took a ride down to a new place, for a few of us anyway - lol - Kelly Brothers Irish Pub and met Paul Kelly one of the owners. If there ever was a bartender that can handle the bar/club crowds as 80-100 customers suddenly arrive b-4 a show event, while multitasking at the highest level & acknowledging everyone with a smile, Paul is the superstar Bartender! They offer live music every weekend & a couple week days and support the Blues Society bands as well! "Rockin' Jake" band just performed his wildly fun show jamming with his signature harmonica! Go check out this pub that has plenty of good Bike parking and say "Hi" to Paul! Some other well-known local Bands we all got to checkout this past month; Beach Dogs, Richie and the Springfield band, Hollywood Violinists, Sam Whedon band (-KJ who plays a mean sax!) Big Rock

84

Band, MNG (Mr Nice Guy), Krazy Train and Monster. We rode out to Cafe' 27 a couple weekends where there's always a great local band playing! Two recent bands performing that always brings a crowd- Hangar 5 and Big Rock band. Hangar 5 is a premium rock n' roll cover band with 5 members from Miami with influences from ACDC, Pearl Jam,Ozzy, U2, Led Zep, Foo fighters, Linkin Park, & more. Their name was derived from their practice days which took place in a warehouse at Miami International Airport with the original 5 members! Kool! Also had the pleasure of seeing The Big Rock Band which an eight-piece rock cover band from South Fl. They really 'wow' the crowd with their 70's- 90's "Frock (rock and Funk music) Alex Lecina - lead vocals is amazing blending the rock and groove which gives them their distinct high energy performance! Awesome Band!! Don't forget to support the ABATE 38th Motorcycle Event Oct 14th at Mickey's Tiki in Pomano beach. Johnny Rose(Pres.of ABATE Sth. Fl ) needs us all there to stand up and fight for biker rights and safety. Help them make a difference, now and for the future!! There will be Live Music - great food, vendors & door prizes! So, come on out and support the cause! See you there! That's all for now- more from KJ's Korner next month! Let’s enjoy the ride and keep the rubber on the road! **** If you would like to advertise please contact me at KJFullThrottleMag@gmail.com
