Hello and welcome to the shortest month of the year ... February! This is such a crazy, action packed, busy month it needs to add an additional two days not have two less! Bike Week starts on February 26th and goes till March 7th. Yes, you read that right ... Bike week starts on February 26th! If you haven’t booked your campgrounds or hotels, you better not wait much longer! Look for the Full Throttle crew at JP Cycles, Iron Horse and on Beach Street. We will be handing out stuff, taking photos and having a good old time as usual! Hopefully you have all seen the BIG NEWS ..... Full Throttle is now available at 7-11 Stores in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando, Sarasota, Manatee, Polk and Volusia Counties. That is a total of 193 stores and covers all of Central Florida! No other free motorcycle magazine in the Sunshine State can make that statement! Now you can pick up Florida’s #1 motorcycle publication in motorcycle dealerships throughout the state, multiple tattoo parlors, bike shops, repair centers, bars, restaurants and now 193 7-11 stores! If you are not advertising your business in Full Throttle .... what are you waiting for???? If you’re reading this column and reading this magazine so are your potential customers! Nobody gets your name and product in front of more people than we do. If you are spending your money in other motorcycle mags or websites, it’s time to wake up and compare apple to apples! Get the full “Bang For Your Buck” and give us a call today! I want to wish my beautiful wife Tracy a very Happy Birthday! I also want to send B-day wishes out to Mary Cianci, Tommy Peak, Val Sweaty and Erica Thomas. Don’t forget about Valentine’s Day on February 14 and we’ll see you in Daytona for Bike Week 2010 !!!
Wow, it’s only February and so many great things are starting to happen here in 2010, it’s hard to believe. #1 on the list of course is the increased amount of printed magazines each month and 7-Eleven® being our new distribution outlets in 8 counties and 193 locations! If things go well with this then I could see many more counties joining the mix. Number 2 on the good news list is Full Throttle is reaching out to new areas across the state including Jacksonville and Tallahassee. If you know someone who would like to help us in those areas, we are looking for a great “Regional Editor” for each colored section in the magazine. BIKE WEEK 2010 is here starting this month on the 26th. Full Throttle is doing their sponsorship packages like we have for the past few years. For $750 we will hand out and information, promotional items and products at out 3 booth locations. The locations are Ironhorse Saloon, JP Cycles and Beach Street across from Daytona Harley-Davidson where you can also find Corporate Harley this year rather than at the Ocean Center. We will be handing out magazines and our sponsor’s info at all 3 locations during all 10 days of bike week. You will also get your name, logo and contact info on a full page with all the Full Throttle Bike Week Sponsors in the March and April issues. Full Throttle Magazine will also be able to be found in a better location this year at Leesburg Bike Fest. You will be able to find us in front of the Library on Main Street very close to the Budweiser Stage. We will be doing the same deal handing out magazines and sponsors items at our booth. This promotion will be a little cheaper as it is only a weekend event. For $250 we will hand out your flyers, info or promotional items from our booth in Leesburg. If you are interested in either the Bike Week Sponsorship or the Leesburg Bike Fest Sponsorship please call me at 813-814-1424 or e-mail me at tonyc@floridafullthrottle.com If you are looking to advertise your business, start a bike night or host a motorcycle event, we are the magazine to contact. We have an e-mail blast list of 5,000+ that is growing every day, our Face Book Fan Page has 1,200+ fans and that is growing everyday also. Besides that we also have our website, cruising calendar and myspace page, where we can help spread the word to thousands of bikers. I would like to wish my Mom Mary, and Tracy Happy Birthday’s this month. I would also like to let everyone know how important this month’s deadline for ads, articles and everything else for the magazine is. Bike Week starts on February 26th so we need to have the magazines back in our hands from the printer on the 25th. THAT MEANS THE DEADLINE OF THE 15TH IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!! Make sure you ride safe, be smart, don’t drink and ride and we will see you in Daytona!!!! Facebook

December is always a hectic month trying to get everything done for the holidays: shopping for gifts, decorations to hang, food to prepare, and social events! The Diva Angels still took the time to participate in events for the good of others in our community. We helped with the Suncoast Brotherhood Toys for Tots Parade which was amazing! Cheers to the Brotherhood for putting on a truly awesome event. We also ‘relaxed’ to have our annual Diva Angel Holiday party. Our Director Helene once again opened her beautiful home for the party. There was delicious food, a bonfire in the backyard, lots of laughter and great camaraderie. The gift exchange was a blast as usual too! The Diva Angles kicked off the first day of the New Year with our annual brunch and ride to see the manatees at the TECO Power Plant. Our ride is normally a beautiful one over the Skyway but after a very wet, cold and crazy ride to Diva Sally's we decided it would be best to postpone our trip to TECO. Sally & Stan prepared a feast shrimp and grits, casseroles, and all kinds of yummy food. We topped it off with Mimosas, Bloody Mary's and Irish coffee. A fantastic time was had by all and we can't think of a better way to spend the first day of 2010 then with our Diva sisters. The Divas also rode to the Gibtown Bikefest and it was a beautiful ride. Diva Teresa donated her beautiful long hair for the Locks of Love event and ride on January 10th. She had 10 inches of her
hair cut-off for this very worthwhile cause and the Diva sisters were there to cheer her on! One of our very special events was held on January 30th, The Bakas Equestrian Center Horses for the Handicapped Motorcycle Rally. The center program offers a therapeutic riding experience to physically and mentally challenged children and adults to enable them to experience the joy, excitement and challenge of horseback riding. The program provides exercise, socialization and competition for participants. Look for us and our booth on the Third Wednesday of each month (weather permitting). The Tampa Bay Chapter meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 6:30 at Quaker Steak and Lube. For more information about the Tampa Bay Diva Angels and our calendar of events, please go www.tampadivaangels.com. Come ride with us!

LOUD VALVES SAVE LIVES
I was at a recent bike show, Thunder By The Bay, nice show, good crowd. There was one particular shirt I saw a rider wearing. It said "Loud Pipes Save Lives" and I thought to myself do they really? So it got me to thinking, my insurance company gives me a discount for being accident free, a safe driver and a multi-bike owner, but they have yet to offer me a "loud pipe discount.” It would seem to me the safety and statistic friendly insurance lobby and the lizard that runs the one insurance company would jump on this life saving invention. For the few times that loud pipes do let a driver know of your whereabouts, say in a passing situation, that 9 times out of 10 the loud noise just causes the unaware driver to be spooked into an erratic wheel movement or inadvertent swerve. It would seem the argument for louder pipes is that because you can't avoid all the idiots out there, you are better off making a really loud noise to make them notice you. It's interesting that the bikes with the loudest pipes have the worst handle bars and seating positions for avoiding any road dangers, a lack of general or simple suspension and the poorest acceleration and brakes, I guess with all that working against you, you gotta believe in something. Hey I still believe in Santa and the Easter Bunny! It’s really amazing that bike manufacturers spend millions in research to quiet valve trains, eliminate piston noise through complex fairings and water-cooling and design expensive carbon fiber exhausts and baffle design, only to have the owner immediately pull out the baffles or go to a mis-matched after market exhaust that often makes starting harder and results in a loss of performance, so the argument of the big horsepower gain is not realistic. Today’s bikes have so much available horsepower and require a certain (factory) exhaust back pressure that the small gain would only be noticed at the strip or track on a bike setup by professionals. I then read the Hurt Report and while Professor Hurt's work is dated (there has not been a comprehensive study of motorcycle accidents and causes in the USA since his 1981 study was published) It is still held as valid by many in the industry. Hurt argues that his study is still accurate in its core findings, although he does think they should update to the current state of motorcycle safety. He was quoted as saying "the more times go by, the less things look different. Riders today have the same sort of accidents as riders in the 1970's, except they crash much more expensive bikes". His study determined that 77% of motorcycle hazards come from in front of the rider, while only 3% approach from the rear. Now here lies the physics lesson of sound properties, motorcycle pipes direct almost their entire sound cone backwards and where no danger exists, so in essence for loud pipes to generate a code of safety and not just make the unwary driver feel like they just got mugged, they would need to point forward. Loud pipes create low frequency sounds directed behind the bike. Most bikers want that lower bass rumble, sometimes spending thousands to get it. Low frequency sounds are hard to pinpoint in both direction and distances and do not penetrate into cars, that usually have closed windows, stereos on or other distractions to driving. Sounds that do attract attention according to many studies are high frequency directed forward (IE:police and emergency sirens) Police bikes while equipped with sirens generally have quiet exhausts. Now I have found a few instances where animals are concerned. A few of my Northern friends have reported a drop in biker incidents involving moose due to higher decibels, but then our moose problem in the Tampa Bay area has never worried me.
What loud pipes do is get the general public to write letters to newspapers, the home owners associations and local government. And sooner or later they are going to want all bikes to be as quiet as cars, we won't hear them at all. My Ducati and my Triumph have a very pleasant and resonating tone, and if I keep it a gear up in my "hood" only the lightest sleeping hounds bark on occasion. Now don't take this as a bash on your freedom of noise, after market pipes, or self expression if you like loud. That’s your choice and you're right (within lawful decibel levels) but don't try to justify it as a safety feature, It’s not! The insurance industry doesn't support it, the studies in the USA and Europe don't show it. I have yet too see a statement by either saying "all riders under 18 must have very loud pipes or be accompanied by an adult". If you like deep vibrating exhaust notes or it gives you pleasure, then by all means go for it. If you think it makes you safer, well if you put yourself in a position where this is the best safety device you have, you are already screwed my friend. I saw another shirt later in the day, it said, "If loud pipes save lives, imagine what learning to ride that thing could do" I asked that guy where I could buy one.. WHATS NEW WITH MR. 400! Well, I came up with a 1979 kz650 off of Craigslist that was a little south of original, so it's my new "cafe racer on the cheap project", a fun rat bike. Look for it in February putting a 4th bike into the Biffs Bike of the Year contest in March. Taking home a trophy at Thunder by the Bay was super cool. It was a cold day but a great show. Getting back in the winners circle at Kahunas Thursday bike night and getting number 423 was also very special! Thanks, Bob D.

It saddens me to tell you Barbara passed away. She and her husband have run the bike and car show at Webster’s since the beginning. She will be missed by all! The Gibsonton Bike Fest just closed as I am leaving now, really tired but had a great time, seen lots of friends, met new ones. They had a Wall of Death this year. That is the thing that hooked me on bikes. Don’t know how old I was, probably 6 or 7, but when other kids wanted to ride the merrygo-round I wanted to stand in the crowd and watch and hear the motorcycles rev it up on the rollers. When I finally got to go in, what a thrill it was. I met Ben, the owner of this one, I guess he is hooked also. He built his own Wall Of Death and hired Kerry CC Hall, Mike Crippin, and Tampa’s own Jonny Long. Check them out at americanhellriders.com. They also had a highwire act which is a thrill to watch. I did not see anyone volunteering to go up there. Adam Holbrook also showed us his skills. I think he rode over his Dad. You can see him at Disney World when he is not at this event. They also had bands, a great bike show and wrestling, what a tough sport, I bet those guys were sore the next day. Tim and
Ronda cooked fish. What a great time!! Thanks for your help Smokey and everyone else. See you next year. By the time you see this, the Full Throttle Motorcycle Expo will be over, we hope you attended. It looks like cameras are coming up at many busy intersections. They say, to catch red light runners and it has created havoc. Rear end crashes are on the incline and that means lots more money going to the agencies and the camera operators and less in our pockets. 7 states have outlawed them, we need to look at our elected officials. Getting rear ended on a bike is hell, your head could be turned into a hood ornament. See you soon Suzie

“Paul Cox is arguably the most talented fabricator in the motorcycle industry. Paul is the real thing. He is original, creative and fearless in his style. There are so many layers to Paul’s skills and creativity, many of which we have yet to see. He is on the level of genius. His talent is intimidating.” - Billy Lane of www.choppersinc.com December 16th 2009 was the last interview I did for the year. I could not have crowned the year better than to do it by meeting with Paul Cox of www. paulcoxindustries.com . I found in my research that Paul was not only a mere builder but a well versed, thoughtful and reflective young man so I went in with all guns blazing. You see, Paul is unlike any other custom builder out there. He is one of the privileged few who has been mentored by one of the most legendary and respected builders in the world; the late Indian Larry. That’s right. To those of us who realize without bike builders there would be no scooters to ride on, Paul Cox needs no introduction. The heart of this man is layered by a multitude of talents. Just Google his name or check his web site and also www. lichterstock.com and search his name in there. You will “see the light”! Simply put, this guy breaks the barriers of bike building creativity at every level. His skills and abilities set the tone and the rest can only hope to compare. If in my mind as mentioned in the past “Billy Lane is our modern Salvador Dali” then Paul reminds me of a modern Picasso. Back in the early 1990s, Paul connected with the bike shop “Psycho Cycles”. One of the guys in the shop was none other than Indian Larry (RIP) who died suddenly back in 2004 doing what he loved doing: riding. Back then Indian Larry immediately picked up on Paul’s amazing multitude of talents and said “We gotta keep this guy around”. Paul was more often than not found in the shadow of Indian Larry and if not then very close by. The two became best friends and, along with partners Frank and Steg, went on to create a hard-core, NYC style
that would become a trademark for years to come. After Larry passed away, Paul continued to build under the Indian Larry Legacy umbrella for several more years. In 2008, Paul switched gears again, expanding his company to Paul Cox Industries (www. paulcoxindustries.com). Paul’s new shop offers a more intimate look into the life of a true artist and inventor. No limits, no boundaries, with functionality and balance continuing to be the foundation for all his creations. The day was a cold day for my Floridian blood in the middle of a Brooklyn New York street as I walked to a steel door and knocked. I don’t get impressed very easily. In my professional life I have had to meet with high-ranking politicians, multimillion dollar company owners, CEOs, CFOs and celebrities of all sorts so after a while you get use to it. Because of that I was very calm during all the time leading to my meeting with Paul. That is, until I opened the door to his shop and entered into what I came to consider a hidden Mecca for motorcycle builders. Whoa! This is not your common motorcycle shop with parts of common motorcycles hanging on the walls or laying around. This is a master artist shop with masterpieces of motorcycle parts hanging everywhere on the four walls as well as the ceiling, and motorcycle masterpieces parked on the ground. Brad Pitt’s own custom bike was being serviced right there before my eyes. Looking closer I discovered Brad has a thing for carved or engraved parts all over his bike. Among other things I could see original unpublished pictures of other celebrity builders, leather work, knives, hot rods etc… Do I need to tell you I became excited like a little boy who had just entered Batman and Robin’s cave? Paul gave me a quick tour and I have one single very deep regret: I did not plan for more time. I would have loved to just sit there like a fly on a wall and silently observe everything that was going on. I could have spent days there but then again I think Paul would have eventually kicked me out!

Paul is a seasoned motorcycle builder, leather craftsman, metal smith and inventor. Paul was born in Richmond, Virginia back in 1964. He grew up between the city environment of Richmond and the rural countryside of Colonial Beach. Paul had the chance to create two, three and four wheeled contraptions to ride along the dirt roads and wooden trails. Bicycles and soap box cars soon gave way to mini-bikes, go-carts, dirt bikes, and eventually motorcycles. At a young age he even built a hang glider out of pieces of bamboo with bed sheets which he used his grandma to launch him with from the edge of a cliff!!! (Grandmas out there now don’t go and try this at home!) Often inspired by whatever materials he could find, Paul experimented with boats as well. Paul’s dad was a motorhead too. He brought Paul to custom car shows in the 60s and 70s and that contributed to fueling the fire burning inside Paul for horse power, mechanical and art design.

Paul went to Virginia Commonwealth University to study painting, sculpture, and illustration. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1989, he moved to New York City in search of inspiration, experience and an outlet for his creativity. After working briefly in the advertising world, Paul realized that it wasn’t for him and started restoring antiques on the street, painting and creating odd and surreal objects from any materials he could put his hands on. He began showing his paintings and other creations in some downtown galleries and art spaces. Motorcycles had a strong presence into these early years in New York City and Paul rode and built Yamahas, Triumphs and Harleys. Working from his apartment, on the Lower East Side, he built choppers, made parts and created custom leather saddles for other bikers in the city. One thing is for sure now, in the past several years Paul feels time has slipped through his fingers, and now he feels like his creativity is about to explode. “I am inspired like never before. I am going full steam ahead.” As a matter of fact, his builds will continue to be his classic style. Paul will continue to cater to the real needs of his clients. Paul will however venture, experiment and expand into more artistically surrealist fine art pieces. We can look forward to a new signature frame, a parts line, new Girder front end parts, forward controls, taillights, and handle parts. As if this was not enough, Paul will also diversify into a limited amount of leather work and very high end custom knives (I want one! I want one!). I asked Paul if he had a hobby of some sort. That was a silly question to ask! The man is passionate and loves what he does so obviously he does not need a hobby. Paul has been happily married to Anne for 11 years. Marriage has helped him to realize “it’s not all about me” (can some of us PLEASE make notes!!). In fact he has a great admiration for Anne’s strengths and willpower. The way she conducts herself in adverse situations, with dignity and style, puts her in a class of her own. Paul is also a proud
over the last many years through his trial. “Billy was an inspiration to Larry as well” Paul confided with eyes welled up still. What do you think is going to become of Billy? I asked Paul. “It is frustrating to see him have to leave but he will figure a way to come out of it stronger than ever” Paul replied. Knowing Billy, I happen to agree with Paul. Paul feels that the youth of today are brighter than they sometimes live up to it. A lot of them, he says, are starting to get more interested in old craftsmanship and it is really picking up. Do you think mandatory military service would be good I asked? Paul feels this is too archaic of a recruiting method. “We have people who are genuinely interested and passionate to fight for this country already.” Do you believe art can influence someone for good or for evil? “Absolutely! Art is a highly influential and manipulative tool. What defines the good or the evil is what it will do to a person’s soul.” What about death penalty? Paul has mixed feelings about this one. “Who are we to decide? It has its place but I don’t want to be the one making the decision. Some however should have never been born.” What about guns? Do you like guns or gun control? “It’s difficult here in NY but I like guns! Gun control is just not effective. Up here in New York, you can get one at the drop of a hat. I guess if a criminal wants to do something illegal with a gun, gun control or not, if he needs a gun he will find a gun and do his deed.” What about assisted suicide? In short, Paul would support that so long as you have a state of mind that is deemed healthy and competent to make that decision. Paul however feels that self-inflicted death due to emotional, financial or other reasons than being on your deathbed is simply a Photo By Bryan Helm coward and selfish act. There is a clear distinction between “suicide” and “assisted suicide”. father. “Dylan” is his little girl’s name. She is 4 years old and I will tell you her dad is one heck of a proud What about abortion? Is it a choice or a life? In Paul’s mind, it is a choice but he doesn’t know dad. He is more passionate about doing the right where the cutoff line is and certainly would not thing and building into his daughter than any of want to be the one facing that decision. the bikes he has ever built. Paul’s desire is to affect people in a good way and inspire others. Paul’s code of conduct includes “honesty and purity in his work”. Paul admires those who stick to what they believe in and are true to themselves. Among them of course would be Indian Larry. As Paul spoke about his late friend, his eyes became visibly teary. In good or bad times, Indian Larry was a “genuine hard working human and drank everything life has to offer”. Billy Lane was and continues to be a tremendous inspiration to Paul. Paul admires how Billy has handled himself
Paul I said, in all my interviews so far or at least the majority of them I ask my interviewees to comment on a text that I read to them. The text I chose for you is from the author CS Lewis in his book “The Four Loves”; “There is no safe investment. To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round
with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket - safe, dark, motionless, airless - it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable and irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell.” Paul: “This rings true to me. I can relate to that personally. I hold my cards close to my chest and that applies personally as well as publicly. It is a personal battle for me to open up to others and it is something one should continue to try and overcome. I shut down emotionally. I guess that’s a defense mechanism. When I let it out it’s all or nothing. At the end of the day I think the risks of love are worth it all.” Your relationship with Indian Larry must have had an impact on you. Can you comment on that? Paul is still evidently emotional about the loss of his friend. “He made me open my mind. We were together at such a pivotal time of each other’s growth. I learned so much from Larry on craftsmanship. He even found spirituality in the realm of craftsmanship. To him, only God could produce a perfect thing and so when I would come to him with a part I had made and felt it was not perfect, Larry would embrace it all and approve. Larry was in constant active search mode on a spiritual level. He was always reading one or two books anywhere he would go. In fact Larry’s question mark symbol in his logo is intentionally representative of Larry’s constant spiritual quest. My grandfather was a Baptist minister. Personally I am not actively involved in organized religion, but I do continue to search for enlightenment and spirituality in life and I am in a constant state of awareness that there is something or someone bigger than me.” Is there life after death? “I hope so!” “I believe that the most lawless and inordinate loves are less contrary to God’s will than a self-invited and self-protective lovelessness… We shall draw nearer to
God, not by trying to avoid the sufferings inherent in all loves, but by accepting them and offering them to Him; throwing away all defensive armor. If our hearts need to be broken, and if He chooses this as a way in which they should break, so be it.” - CS Lewis “The Four Loves” So, what are we to think? As Paul continues to paint the canvas of his life. As he embraces the risks love offers. As he continues to invest in his marriage. Pouring affection in the fabric of Dylan’s little heart. Giving himself completely and totally into what he is passionate about and does best. Aware, open and respectful of someone/something bigger than any of us mere mortals. What paint brush and what colors will we use to paint the canvas of our lives and who will we let in as our inspiration? Love or hate? (Love cannot hate) Courage or fear? (Love does not fear) Forgiveness or bitterness? (Love bears all things) Hope or despair? (Love hopes in all things) Truth or lies? (Love is transparent) Learn to love ourselves before we can pretend to love others? Learn what/who love actually is? It takes more strength, courage, determination and honesty to love and accept love than any other sports, craft, skill or concept any human can ever face. Let love burn the boundaries of our human limitations and see what happens! To reach Night Train: floridanighttrain@verizon.net or Florida Full Throttle Facebook page. “We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”

Where To Be With Me Most of the time I write about where I have been. This time I want to tell you where I want to be. First, I hope to see everybody at our 12th annual Florida Motorcycle Expo. Sorry, by the time you read this, you just missed the last event held at the Harborview Center in Clearwater. I hope you made it to the show. It’s a great time with things you can’t find everywhere. Hot bikes in the parking lot and in the bike show. Hotter women walking around and in the Miss Full Throttle Contest. $100 given away ever hour of the expo. Live music and entertainment. Raffles, tons of give-a-ways and vendors with everything bikers want. Wait till you see where we will be next year. Now something new coming up February 13th at Craig Park in Tarpon Springs. The American Autism Foundation, Inc. is having a benefit free concert featuring; Bo Santos, Las Vegas Review, and Cross Eyed Larry. A Bike Show with awards Sponsored by Venom Custom Choppers Bike Shop Bar and Grill, in New Port Richey. And Family stuff like a big 4X4 Truck by Altitude Adjustments Off Road and Performance thanks to owner Rick Merrill. This is to bring families and the community together to make new friends and help the ones that help others. 12 things to consider when purchasing a custom bike. 1. References, not your friends advice, but (satisfied customers). A reputable shop will have references. 2. Check with insurance company on how much a policy would be and if they in fact will insure. 3. Does shop have insurance. 4. Check with the Better Business Bureau and consumer affairs on the shop. 5. Are they a distributor for major supply houses. What brands are they going to use. 6. What is the labor rate or is it a flat rate with no extra expenses. 7. Are they a registered repair shop with the state. 8. You want an itemized printed bill/estimate on shops letterhead. 9. Never pay in full up front, rule of thumb, 1/3 + 1/3 +1/3 or 1/2 +1/2. 10. Will completed bike pass all D.O.T. standards for any state, this way you are not confined to ride where bike was built.
11. You want a completion date with a two week leeway and what the penalty is for non compliance on the contract (discount, money back). 12. What is the warranty on the bike - engine, frame, including labor? Never buy without a warranty. You are about to spend a lot of money on an after market bike! That costs more in most cases than a major factory built bike, which are all proven and tested and built by engineers, and government supervised and approved with stringent quality controls. You cannot get a manual or parts book as you can with major brands. You are now at the mercy of that builder for all repairs and their labor rates. Most regular repair shops will not work on these bikes because there are no specs or service guidelines to maintain dependable, quality bike for rider enjoyment. They look pretty and different but you want a builder that stands behind his work in an expedient manner and not forgotten once it leaves their shop. Let the buyer beware! Thank You Rose from Willy T's. Good night Mia, wherever you are?

MILWAUKEE (January 22, 2010) – The new Harley-Davidson FortyEight motorcycle is a factory custom in the legendary tradition of the hot rod Sportster line with the raw, elemental appeal of the Dark Custom™ bikes. Riding low with a slammed suspension and featuring the classic 2.1-gallon “peanut” fuel tank, the Forty-Eight backs up its bulldog appearance with the performance of its blacked out and polished rubber-mounted Evolution® 1200 cc V-Twin engine. The low solo seat, under-mounted mirrors, side mount license plate, clean rear fender and tall and fat front tire emphasize the Forty Eight’s focus on chiseled customization. And while the Forty-Eight model may break bad when it comes to radical attitude and straight-on style, it won’t break the bank starting at just $10,499 MSRP in Vivid Black. “With its classic bulldog shoulders stance, the Forty-Eight strikes a distinctive look and low profile that could only come from Harley-Davidson,” said Ray Drea, Harley-Davidson Senior Director of Styling. “The Forty-Eight model has a collective past life experience and broken-in look that is raw and authentic.” As a Harley-Davidson Dark Custom motorcycle, the Forty-Eight is ready to ride as a radical custom and also primed to take on its rider’s character and personality. Dark Custom accomplices of the Forty-Eight include the Nightster®, Iron 883™, Cross Bones®, Fat Bob® and Street Bob®. Check out more on Dark Custom motorcycles at www.harley-davidson.com/darkcustom. Harley-Davidson Sportster models like the Forty-Eight have retained an aura of rebellion since their introduction in 1957, when the foundation of custom culture was being formed by hot rod gear heads hanging out on city street corners, in gritty garages or at dusty dragstrips. Sportster motorcycles became an iron canvas for many legendary choppers of that hot rod era and beyond. Lying low from tire-to-tire, the Forty-Eight model showcases more of its black 1200 Evolution V-Twin engine with polished accents and other components with a clean look highlighted by the traditional peanut fuel tank, small solo seat and lightening holes in the backbone mounting bracket. The Forty-Eight has more than just custom cool styling with the smooth ride on new front fork sliders, a tall and fat front tire and slammed rear suspension. With Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) and performance tuning with a broad torque curve, the Forty-Eight motorcycle delivers a powerfully responsive ride with smooth clutch effort. The pipes on the chrome, shorty dual exhaust pound out the distinctive Harley-Davidson American V-Twin sound. The Forty-Eight embraces the street up front with forward foot controls, low profile custom handlebar, under-mounted mirrors, fork-mounted turn signals, slammed speedometer mounting bracket and fork brace with lightening holes. A unique dual texture solo seat with a height of 26 inches fits the lone rider, while a passenger pillion, footpegs and backrest are some of the many accessories that can be added. The black chopped rear fender with combination stop/ turn/tail lights and a side mounted license plate help show-off the 150 mm rear tire and 16-inch Black Steel Laced wheels. The front tire also rides on a wide black wheel. The Forty-Eight model comes in Vivid Black, Brilliant Silver and Mirage Orange Pearl colors and will be available soon at Harley-Davidson dealers.

Saint Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14 by many people throughout the world. The holiday is named after two early Christian martyrs named Valentine. The day became associated with romantic love in the Middle Ages when the tradition of "courtly love" flourished. Numerous early Christian martyrs were named Valentine. The two that are credited with the February 14 date are Valentine of Rome and Valentine of Terni. Both are buried on the Via Flaminia and both have no direct link to the romantic overtones of today’s holiday. In the 1969 revision of the Roman Catholic Calendar of Saints, the feast day of Saint Valentine on February 14 was removed from the General Roman Calendar because, "Nothing is known of Saint Valentine except that he was buried on the Via Flaminia on February 14". According to the Early Medieval Legenda Aurea, St.Valentine was persecuted as a Christian by Roman Emperor Claudius II. The Emperor was so impressed by Valentine, that he attempted to get him to convert to Roman paganism in order to save his life. Valentine refused and tried to convert Claudius II to Christianity. That was the ultimate reason for his execution. It is said that the night before his death, he wrote a valentine to a young girl that he identified as his beloved. That girl was the jailer’s blind daughter whom he befriended and healed. The note was signed .... "From Your Valentine". The first recorded association of Valentine’s Day with romantic love is in Parlment of Foules (circa 1382) by Geoffrey Chaucer who wrote a poem to honor the first anniversary of the engagement of King Richard II of England and Anne of Bohemia. In the year 1400, the "High Court of Love" was established in Paris on Valentine’s Day. The court dealt with love contracts, betrayals and violence against women. Valentine’s Day is also mentioned by Ophelia in Hamlet (circa 1600-1601). Paper Valentines became popular in England in the early 1800’s and the reinvention of St.Valentine’s Day holiday started in the 1840’s by Leigh Eric Schmidt who was a writer for Graham’s American Monthly. Today the U.S.Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately one-billion valentines are sent each year worldwide, making it the second largest card-sending day behind Christmas. Across the world, Valentine’s Day is celebrated. In Mexico, Guatemala and El Savador, Valentine’s Day is known as "Dia del Amor y la Amistad" .... Day of Love and Friendship. Although it is similar to the United States’ version, it is common to see people do "acts of appreciation" for their friends. In South Korea, women give chocolate to men on February 14 and men give non-chocolate candy to women on March 14. On April 14, those who did not receive anything on either day go to a Chinese restaurant to eat black noodles to "mourn" their single life. In Saudi Arabia, in 2002 and 2008, religious police banned the sale of all Valentine’s Day items, telling shop workers to remove any red items as the day is considered a nonIslamic holiday. The same anti-Valentine’s Day feelings are found in India, Iraq and Iran. Valentine’s Day is a wonderful holiday that gives people the chance to say, "I love you" and you can say it in many ways. So go out buy your chocolates, flowers, teddy bears and lingerie ... make dinner reservations and spend time with your loved ones! Happy Valentine’s Day! by Paul Allen

Aloha everyone! Guess it’s time to get back to reality. We had an absolute wonderful time in Hawaii. What a beautiful place. We were there for two weeks and fortunate enough to experience all 4 of the main islands. In Oahu we rented a Harley for the week and rode every scenic road on the island. If you’ve never been, we highly recommend it as one of those places you add to your list of must-dos before you die! We are so glad we missed that ridiculously cold weather. I hate riding in the cold; I’d rather ride in 100 degree heat than anything below 70! From what we have heard the cold weather really hurt the turn out for the Thunder by the Bay Festival, which stinks because it is for such a good cause in helping our area children. We hope that the weather is good for Daytona; We will be heading over the 1st weekend for what always is a fun and exciting time. Hope to see you there! Until next month have fun and be safe! Tracey and Gary

A guy walks into a post office one day to see a middle-aged, balding man standing at the counter methodically placing “Love” stamps on bright pink envelopes with hearts all over them. He then takes out a perfume bottle and starts spraying scent all over them. His curiosity getting the better of him, he goes up to the balding man and asks him what he is doing. The man says “I’m sending out 1,000 Valentine cards signed, ‘Guess who?’” “But why?” asks the man. “I’m a divorce lawyer,” the man replies.

I said, “Well, why are you crying?” She said, “For dinner he makes me a gourmet meal with wine and my favorite dessert and then makes love to me until 2:00 a.m.” Once again I said, “Well, why in the world would you be crying?” She said, “I can’t remember where I live!” *****************************************

Jessica Fischer is the Marketing Coordinator at Harley-Davidson of Fort Myers and Naples HarleyDavidson. She was born and raised in Dublin, Ohio where she grew up around four wheelers and dirt bikes because of her father’s love for motorsports. From Harleys to dirt bikes, he rides them! However, she was more of the cheerleader girly-girl who didn’t think she could ride (if she only knew then what she knows now!). When Jessica was in high school and she would discuss careers and where she saw herself in ten years, she would have never in a million years guessed she would be planning and coordinating events for HarleyDavidson. When Jessica was approaching her graduation from Arizona State University in May of 2008, the big question that came to mind was; “What do I do now?” She started thinking about an offer given to her the previous summer about an internship with Scott Fischer Enterprises in Southwest Florida. One conversation led to an interview, which ultimately led to a drive across country. Jessica began her internship at WestCoast Motorsports, where she got her first taste of the motorcycle industry. Those first months were filled with new challenges, new people, and a totally new lifestyle. After spending the summer as an intern on the metric side of business, she was promoted to Harley-Davidson of Fort Myers to work as the marketing agent for the dealership. Jessica has found it truly inspiring to be on the inside of an industry that is the common ground for a community of people. She has never met more individuals and groups who are collectively willing to volunteer their time for the help of another, or drop what they are doing for a good cause. In 2009, during a time of an economic downfall, Scott Fischer Enterprises supported over 50 non profit events where their efforts helped raise over several hundred thousand dollars for dozens of charities, including March of Dimes, MDA, and Blessings in Backpacks. While Jessica helped coor-
dinate these events, she is amazed how much money the bikers raise for these worthwhile charities. Jessica says, "I came to Fort Myers thinking Harley-Davidson was just a bike. Now I know that Harley-Davidson is about helping a friend in need, it’s taking someone under your wing, it’s empowering yourself, it’s riding for a purpose (or no purpose at all), it’s about camaraderie, dedication to what you believe in, and it’s about being an American and being free. I am reminded of this everyday by the diversity of the people who walk through our doors: blue collar, no collar, dog collars, artists, doctors, priests, coaches, teachers, and the list goes on. It’s comforting to know that through all of our differences we are connected by one symbol - the bar & shield, and we're in this together. I’m very much looking forward to 2010 and everything it holds for us!"

I was only able to make it to Cyclepalooza for Saturday, but it was amagazing. I am not much into racing but when you see a bike go 226mph, it is quite excelerating! Top Fuel Bikes are AWESOME!!! We also met up with Southern Bike Nights TV and their new travel trailer! It looks great and we look forward to what they are doing in the future. The Dangerous Curves girls were also there showing off and taking pictures for the crowd. Thanks to the guys who put on this great event and we look forward to it next year! Tony Cianci

An Editorial By Paul Allen
Wow ... it’s been a long time since I have written one of these little goodies! Over the past few months, there have been a few things that piss me off including .... People are jumping off the Obama bandwagon in record numbers. Come on everybody, the man took over an office in a terrible time. The previous administration left with a huge budget deficit and the economic depression was all ready upon us. The country was all ready in war and we had zero health care. I’m not saying he is perfect, but he does deserve a break .... Have you tried getting a second mortgage on your house lately? You have a better chance of hitting the lottery! I’m trying to say this in a nice way but it’s impossible so here goes - banks suck! They have money to lend but you better have a 780+ credit score, owe nothing on your credit cards and have tons of equity in your home. Forget it completely if you are trying to refinance a commercial piece of property, it’s just not going to happen .... Talk about credit cards, they are worse than banks. I had a credit card company cut my credit line in half because my total bank card balances are too high. I was NEVER late on a payment and had $5,000 of available credit on their card. Yet, they still cut my available credit amount unbelievable! .... I’m pissed at our country for staying at war in the Middle East. We have been there for years and enough is enough! Let’s have our troops help countries in need like Haiti or better yet, let’s rebuild our own Gulf Coast. We don’t need to be in Iran, Iraq or Afghanistan. Let them fight their own wars and if they feel like attacking us again like they did on 9/11, then let’s go over and crush them completely instead of playing the “we bomb you then rebuild your
country” silly game .... I’m also pissed off at the way our country is so damn politically correct on everything. Did you know that America’s Nazi Party was able to adopt a 1-mile section of a highway in Colorado via the Adopt-A-Highway program? They are responsible for keeping it clean. Their name is on the road sign and everything, right next to hospitals, Elks Club and schools! Lawyers said the state could be in violation of the group’s free speech if they issued a denial. Wait a minute, the Nazi’s waged war on the USA and killed thousands of Americans in WWII. What’s next a section of the highway for Osama bin Laden or Charles Manson? Enough of the political correctness stuff, let’s take a stand and do what is right .... Ok, one last item that gets under my skin. I’m sure this one is close to many people’s hearts with the current increase of sink holes in the central Florida area. Have you ever had to deal with an insurance company? Talk about some cold hearted bastards! They are always there to take your monthly payments (and scream if you are a day late) but when it comes time to pay out a claim, you need to hire a lawyer to make them write a check and it’s never the amount you thought it would be. It’s time our state gets involved and let these multi-million dollar insurance companies know that we Floridians aren’t gonna take it anymore. They all want to take the “easy money” like basic car insurance and simple life insurance policies, but they don’t want to insure our houses and property. Companies are pulling out of the house insurance business saying they can’t afford it due to hurricanes and sinkholes. All companies sell in multiple states across the USA. They all pay taxes on their total income not just what they make (or lose) in Florida. Base home owner’s insurances on a national basis, not regional basis. If they lose in Florida, they make up for it in Ohio. We should not be punished because we live in Florida .... Wow, that was a lot of fun. I got a lot off my chest and I can’t wait to do it again in the future! If you have any comments, send me an e-mail at PaulAllen@FloridaFullThrottle.com!

In this second installment of Biker Photo 101, I’d like to show you a few tricks that can easily make your Biker Photos more interesting. In the first installment of this column I addressed the need to balance out the glamour elements in your photo giving emphasis (size priority) to the best looking feature in the photo. Example: if the model is pretty and the bike not so hot, make the model the biggest element in the photo, and if the bikes hot and the model not… feature the bike… not the model. The next thing to consider after you’ve selected the model and bike is wardrobe and location selection. Think about these items carefully. Ask yourself… does the wardrobe go with the biker theme, and more importantly does it flatter your model. While a bikini might look great on a bike shoot, lingerie looks better in a bedroom than on a bike, as I will explain later. In the attached photo model “Karee” is wearing skimpy biker clothing on Daytona’s Main Street that obviously fits her well. Since this is an evening shoot a swimsuit probably wouldn’t look right, so her clothing selection is perfect for the time of day and background elements. You’ll notice several elements in the shot like the “NO BIKES ON SIDEWALK” sign in the background, and in particular the models pose which parallels the shape of the bike and provides a diagonal element to the photo. All background and foreground elements of a great photo work in harmony. If one element doesn’t fit it usually degrades the whole image. TIP #2 – Make sure your wardrobe fits the model and suits the background elements and especially time of day. Don’t shoot a swimsuit model and a bike at night if you have a choice… save the bikini for day shots. Lingerie may look OK on a bike shoot, but better to avoid it and save it for the honeymoon. Pick wardrobe that you might wear when on a bike parading down the avenue. I only shoot lingerie on a bike in a studio environment, never exterior locations. Biker clothing (like my example,) Swimsuits or even Nudes can look great in a bike photo. Take your time and think out your shoot. Your going to be judged by your worst photograph, not your best. Make each shot the best you can. Until next time… Stay in Focus Jack Watson – Celebrity/Glamour Photographer Email: jackwatsonphotography@hotmail.com

SHARING IS CARING? A married man in his late 40’s, living in Lancashire, England won an Irish Lottery Jackpot of $325,000. His winning numbers were 3-15-2938 and he is a Manchester United soccer fan. That’s all we know about him because he doesn’t want his family to know he won the money. He stated that he will not be telling his family of his newly acquired fortune and he plans to make numerous home improvements!
HOG PINS If you are looking for your Bike Week HOG pin this year, you will no longer get it at the Ocean Center. The pins will be handed out at the Daytona International Speedway where you can also take a demo ride on one of Harley’s 2010 models.
OUCH! OUCH! OUCH! Ouch ... Harley-Davidson’s 2009 financial records showed a $55.1-million loss for the year. The company shipped a total of 223,023 bikes in 2009 compared to 303,474 motorcycles in 2008. That’s a 26.5% drop.
MISSING
IT’S OVER Look for the Northwest Airlines name to disappear as Delta Airlines received permission from the Federal Aviation Administration to operate as a single carrier. Delta acquired Northwest for $2.8-billion in stock in October of 2008 to become the world’s biggest airline.
In November / December 2009, marine scientists counted more than 1,500 sea lions on San Francisco’s famous Pier 39 .... a record number that delighted tourists and locals. Thirty days later there are less than 100 of the loud, whiskered animals on the pier. Experts are saying it’s normal for a few sea lions to leave around this time as they head to breeding colonies in the Channel Islands, just off the Southern California coast, but they are shocked to see how many left. The executive director of the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito is not alarmed and stated the herd should start returning in the spring.
MICKEY HAS A CAPE Last month shareholders of Marvel Entertainment approved the company’s acquisition by the Walt Disney Company for a staggering $4.3-billion. The move brings Spider-Man, The Hulk, Iron Man and over 5,000 other comic book characters under the same roof as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Marvel shareholders will receive $30 per share in cash plus 0.745 Disney shares for every Marvel share they own. Personally, I can’t wait for Minnie Mouse to join the Fantastic Four and start fighting evil!
JUST ANOTHER DAY AT THE OFFICE Last year Mr. Ben Southall was named the winner of a contest that gave him the title “Best Job in the World”. Ben is the caretaker of an Australian island and seemed to live in paradise. Well, last month Benny was riding his personal watercraft just off the island and when he was dismounting, he was stung by a potentially lethal jellyfish. He was airlifted to an area hospital and is expected to make a full recovery .... so much for “The Best Job in the World” !!!
THE BLACK MOUSE IN THE FAMILY Earlier in this column you read about the Walt Disney Company purchasing Marvel Comics. Well, that’s the good news for Disney .... the bad news is Walt’s grandson Patrick is being held in lieu of $55,000 bail on 19 felony counts. The 42-year old was arrested last month at his home were police found 13 handguns, a rifle, an illegal assault rifle and various drugs. He is barred from owning guns or ammunition after a 2005 conviction on drug possession. Come on dude ... you are Walt Disney’s grandkid and you get into this much trouble????
