Welcome to the month of February! The weather usually starts to get better, there are events happening almost every weekend and Bike Week is right around the corner! This year the city of Daytona opens its streets to the world March 4th thru March 13th. You know Full Throttle will be there in numerous locations and if you would like us to hand out your information at our booths, give Tony a call and he can set you up! At the time of this writing, we are just days away from the Motorcycle Expo and Bike Builder Invitational that will be held at Quaker Steak & Lube. Hopefully we had nice weather and you all attended and had a great time! We will have a complete recap in our March issue showing all build-off winners. The Super Bowl will take place on Sunday February 6 and it will have the sound and feel of good, old fashion football with two legendary teams the Green Bay Packers (winners of the first ever Super Bowl) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (winners of more Super Bowls than any other team) playing for the Lombardi Trophy. My predictions haven’t been that great but here I go again .... I am picking the Steelers to win it by the score of 24-21. The Packers are playing great but the Steeler defense will do the job! Make sure you take care of your significant other on February 14 ... yes, Valentine’s Day is here! Make sure you buy those flowers, candy and possibly lingerie for your wife and/or girlfriend! If you’re a female, don’t be afraid to get your husband/boyfriend something as well ... this Valentine’s Day thing works both ways! I also want to wish my wife a very happy birthday this month ... love ya Tracy! Have a great February and we will see you out and about!

I always like the month of February. The weather is what it is, nice during the day and cold as hell at night with that occasional sea fog, thunder storm and the occasional frost on the bike in the morning hours. But one of the other reasons I like February is that BIKE WEEK is right around the corner. Bike week for us here at Full Throttle is a lot of work but is also a lot of fun! We work all day in our booths and taking pictures of the events, then we cut loose at night and have a good time. I am bringing someone with me this year that has NEVER been to Daytona for Bike Week before. Tonya will have a great time going all over the place from Destination Daytona, to Main Street to the Speedway! Speaking of Bike Week, We have a few sponsorships left to sell for Daytona this year. We have 5 sold at press time and we are only selling 8 in total which leaves 3 sponsorships left. This year we have a great offer! For only $800 you will get 5000 4X6 postcard flyers, a half page ad in the March 2011 issue, a 3X5 foot banner and your name listed on our website as our bike week sponsors with links to your website! Now that’s a pretty good deal! And the banner is yours to have after Bike Week. Call me today at 727-9191743 as there are only 3 spot left! Guess what!? You will now be able to purchase our Full Throttle Magazine and Full Throttle ARMY merchandise online starting in February. We are setting up a page where you can see all of our shirts, hats, patches and anything else we have to sell for you to purchase. We are building the site now and it should be up within the first week of February. Let us know what you think. I have had a lot of Soaked & Sore Ass Run questions in the past few weeks. I am working on this great run that happens every year. It looks as if we are going North this year to St. Augustine or Jacksonville, but I am going to throw a little twist in the run also. I may make a special prize for a scavenger hunt and have you answer questions along the way to see if you are paying attention. Sounds like fun to me. I also have an idea to have you go a special route that takes you on a ferry over a little river, I hear you can take your bike right on the ferry and it crosses the river then you get off on the other side. Like I said before, I am going to make this ride this year a lot of fun! Look for more info to come in the following issues. I would like to say happy birthday to Tracy and to my Mom “Mary Cianci” up in the frozen tundra of Ohio. I would also like to wish my two daughters a Happy Valentine’s day and a special “Strawberries” Happy Valentine’s Day to my girlfriend Tonya, you all know her from Quaker Steak and Lube, She’s kind of a big deal. Please ride safe and sober and make sure you watch out for those cages.

2011 here we come, lets watch the Diva Angels as we continue to roll!!! We closed the 2010 year with a fabulous Holiday Party with the Diva Angel’s and their guests final big social event of the year….. Now we are “off” and running to start this wonderful New Year. First thing on our agenda was the annual New Year’s Day ride over the Skyway Bridge to grab a bite and head to Big Ben power plant to see the manatees. The Diva Angels Tampa Bay Chapter and their guests (including seven Skyway virgins) rode over the bridge with it’s splendorous view and our perfect weather, to the designated restaurant Firkin Fox in Bradenton. John at the Firkin was a gracious host, reserved half the parking lot for our motorcycles, put out the Diva welcome marquee, provided us with a raffle, and then the fabulous food. After lunch, we hopped on our bikes, and headed north to the power plant to see 100’s of manatee’s basking in the warm waters of Big Ben water jets. Chapter Officers quickly had their first quarterly meeting of the year to kick it off the planning of the ‘pay-it-forward’ & social events. We have so much in store for 2011 with the Local Com-

23

munity as well as our fun social calendar. Tampa Bay Chapter is proud to say, we have the largest Chapter of the Diva Angel’s organization with over 50 wonderful friendships building, and our membership grows daily. The Tampa Bay Chapter meets every 2nd Tuesday, 6:30pm at Ker’s Wing House in Pinellas Park. Check www.tampadivaangels.com to view our calendar, chapter news, and pictures. Guests are welcome to attend many of our events. Come see for yourself what our next Diva adventure is going to be: could be a mystery or lunch ride to some rustic remote location; beer truck; or a pajama party….. What do you have to lose, come check us out and join our fun….

Come Ride with Us!

Hope you all are off to a great start with the New Year 2011! There is an opportunity to outreach to returning war wounded and their families. In this, Operation American Pride and Thunder Rolls are introducing Hearts and Heroes 2011 to recognize family members and care givers who’ve made a significant sacrifice to care for a returning veteran with life altering wounds. They are seeking support for those family members or caregivers who are making significant sacrifice for their returning warrior and family member. In many cases, this person has given up their personal life activities to care for the warrior…to do the things that the institutional government programs just can’t provide. These moms, dads, spouses or friends don’t need a monetary donation. They need support and outreach that says we care. Hearts and Heroes would like to say we care with gifts that show our support with assistance and in-kind donations. For individuals or groups, you may consider a collection of gift cards for shopping or restaurants. Companies and business may offer inkind gifts….maybe a small shopping spree, a beauty and hair appointment, a dinner for the family. Some of

these people may need help filling out a government form. Please let’s see who is available to offer services or skills, donations or contributions. Hearts and Heroes kicks off this year on Valentine’s Day. We would like to collect gifts over the next few weeks and deliver them the week-end before Valentine’s with an escort of area motorcycle clubs. Thanks to all of you as you continue to support our returning military daughters and sons. If you’re interested in Hearts for Heroes, contact Operation American Pride, Mike or Debbie Whitt at (941) 803-8039, or Robert Holmes at (727) 366-1436. Hearts and Heroes will permit us to continue that support to say thanks to folks who quietly sacrifice their quality of life to care for a wounded warrior. Until Next time...

GET REAL BEHIND THE WHEEL Safe Teen Driver Teaches Teens and Saves Lives

In November 1998, Bruce Murakami lost his wife and daughter in a fiery car crash caused by a teen driver who was street racing. The teen, Justin Cabezas, confessed and faced a 30-year sentence for killing Bruce’s family. But instead of pushing to send Justin to prison for three decades, Bruce made an amazing decision. He forgave the teenager and asked the judge to sentence him to house arrest and community service in a new nonprofit that

Bruce was developing—Safe Teen Driver. Today, as part of Safe Teen Driver, Bruce and Justin give lifechanging presentations to young drivers throughout the country— presentations that show the devastating consequences of a single, bad choice on the road. To date, Safe Teen Driver has reached tens of thousands of teenagers with their message of responsibility behind the wheel of a car and in life. To learn more about Safe Teen Driver, make a donation or for a Safe

Classic Bike Ramblings Equality..............Divas and the Worlds Fastest Woman I did a photo shoot the other day involving one of my old B.M.W.'s My stable of old vintage bikes has done pretty well in the beautiful woman and pin-up department, often up staging the custom one off choppers and un-rideable art pieces sitting a row or two down. Seems nothing causes a stare or stops us bikers of any sex in our tracks like a woman striking a pose on an interesting bike, be it vintage or flavor of the month custom. It has through the history of motor cycling and its nothing new or ground breaking this art of woman and bike. Motor cycling has typically been dominated by men, many sports and hobbies in the world are for a variety of reasons. But you know my friends even though I love those pin-up shots that so dot my facebook and web pages , what really makes me Mr. 499 stop, look and take notice is a woman that rides a motorcycle, one of us. We all experience the same rain, same wind and same hazards out there and "left turners" don’t discriminate. There is simply no reason a woman can't ride these days if she has the desire to, the reliability is there, suspensions can be lowered and bikes handle better and many are lighter and better mannered than in the past. Over the past 70 years as motorcycles evolved so did women’s attitudes towards what they could do, what they would try and master. Motorcycles are the great equalizer, men or women, big or tall ,overweight and small, even the handicapped have access to today’s sport of motor cycling. But as with all break throughs that women have made, it started long ago in the past. Women like Amelia Earhart, Annie Oakley,, Susan B. Anthony and Babe Zaharias, all ground breaking , history making women in their chosen fields and all known for paving the way for the women of today. But you see in my epic quest to become "Mr. 500" King of the vintage bikes, I have come to know a local women's motor cycling group "The Diva Angels" (Tampa

Chapter). I have interacted with many of them at bike nights, on facebook, and at charity events they put on or have helped out with. A few have become my biggest fans in my chase for the plastic demon. Involved in event set up, break down or group riding or Mr. 499 sometimes just plain having fun. They can do anything the "guys" can do event wise or for that matter motorcycling wise. But it was a few trail blazers "back in the day" that brought women, to this point in time and one such lady was Linda Dugeau (1913-2000) inducted into the predominantly male AMA Hall of Fame in 2004. She was a pioneering motorcyclist who founded the Motor Maids in 1940, which is the oldest motorcycling organization for woman in North America. Linda was born in Cape Cod, Mass. where her future husband would teach her to ride his old Harley Davidson JD when she was 19. In the 1930's there were very few woman riders and Dugeau started writing other female riders she would read about in magazines One rider, Carol DuPont, told Linda of a group of women aviators who formed an organization called the Ninety Nine Club. Linda thought there should be a club such as that for women motorcycle riders. She wrote dealerships, the AMA and other women riders all over the land to try and see if there was an interest in this idea. In the late 30ties she got together with Dot Robinson a well known competition rider and together the two went out trying to find members. It took three years to locate 50 female riders so they could form the Motor Maids .Founded in 1940 with 51 members it would receive its charter from the AMA in 1941. The idea of the Motor Maids was to unite women riders and their interests in motorcycling. The Motor Maids grew rapidly and became known to the public when the AMA asked them to parade at various AMA National Races in the 1940's. They became known not only for their skills but for their riding outfits that always featured white gloves. Much like the Diva Angels of today’s world who’s story and club mission and goals trace there roots back to these clubs of the past and of the great women that made it so. Then, my interested readers, there was Margaret Wilson, who was inducted into the prestigious AMA Hall of Fame seven years ago. This amazing woman has put over 550,000 miles on a variety of motorcycles. Known as the "Golden Gal" when she was awarded a golden

lifetime membership in the Motor Maids for her tireless dedication in the cause to further women’s involvement in motorcycling. Born in Wisconsin in 1920.She began her love of motorcycles in 1946 when her husband returned from World War II and bought her a new 45ci Harley Davidson, after several hundred miles of her husband behind her on the passenger seat helping her steady the bike at stops and giving her instructions, she took off on her first solo ride and never looked back. In 1950 and for the next 25 years the husband and wife team ran Wilson’s Motorcycle Sales at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She had become a member of the Motor Maids in 1951 and soon after formed the Corn State Riders Motorcycle Club. Known for putting safety first her and husband Mike were some of the earliest riders to wear helmets and protective clothing and to try and instill this thought of safety first to all other riders of their era. A great moment for Margaret was in the spring of 1959 when she was voted Americas most popular and typical girl rider for 1958 by the clubs in the AMA. She has logged over a half of million miles on bikes. In one year alone she traveled all 48 contiguous states and visited nine Canadian Provinces. She has been to the northern tip of Newfoundland and back. Robert Ruser the then president of the AMA stated "There may be no better role model for women, whether or not they ride motorcycles than Margaret Wilson”. My friends I have focused first and foremost on the great women of the past who paved the way and made women motorcyclists mainstream, made them accepted and who made it possible for the Diva Angels and other women’s organizations to do what they do today and to carry the message on to newer generations of female riders. The Diva Angels were founded late in 2004 by Marsha Wolak and with Susan Goslin and Sandy Brandt helping to get the fledgling organization going, they now have 5 active chapters in Florida and one international charter club. With over 150 members in this short time you can honestly say "You've come along way baby”. And they are truly continuing the tradition of the trailblazing women from over six decades ago as I have researched them more I truly believe Linda

Dugeau would approve and ride with them on any day. But there were so many women in so many different facets of motorcycling in its beginning and ultimate explosion onto the scene. From sales and repair to racing, stunt riding and yes something right up my alley writing and publishing women have been a part of motorcycling history and one such women who "got the words" out was Christine Sommers- Simmons co-founder of Harley Women Magazine and like your purveyor of history here she was author of countless magazine articles and wrote an award winning children’s book on motorcycling. Harley Women was considered by so many to be a ground breaking magazine. It was the very first widely distributed magazine for women motorcycle riders by women and for women only. Cris was born and raised in Chicago and as a child she rode on the back of her stepfathers Honda 750. But at 15 she got her own bike and even though it was a street bike Cris wouldn’t be "Taking it to the Streets"(you will see the Doobie Brothers connection later), she would take it "to the dirt" and was the only girl to be riding, racing and running with the boys off road in her area. She thought it was very ironic that since she had 5 brothers, that so many thought it was them who got Cris into riding motorcycles, but as she points out "I taught four of them to ride!" She got her first Harley Davidson, a 1977 Sportster at the age of 19. And in 1983 she would help organize the second chapter of Women in the Wind, a women’s riding club. She and a friend (Jo Giovannon) began doing a small newsletter for the club, and it was these humble beginnings that led to the idea to start a women’s magazine. Harley Davidson liked the idea and in an effort to "link" women riders together, they would also find a new emerging market to sell bikes to so they helped back and launch the magazine Harley Women in 1985. In the beginning the magazine was composed, printed, photographed and even stapled by Cris and Jo Giovannon,

her longtime friend, former Harley mechanic and cofounder of Harley Women. But she had a great paying job as a postal carrier and this helped immensely in the launching and distribution of the new ground breaking magazine. Not only for start up income but for the people who dotted her route. She had made many contacts on her route that became invaluable to the start up magazine, accountants, attorney's, everyone that could help get the little start up magazine to the next level. As Cris stated "The mail route really helped us get the magazine going". She left her post office gig and dove into the magazine full time. As they traveled to bike rallies' from Daytona to Sturgis they would sell subscriptions and T-shirts out of their car. While this was immensely fun her life would soon change. She would get a divorce and then meet Patrick Simmons an original founder of the "Doobie Brothers" and an accomplished motorcyclist and antique bike collector in his own right. She moved to California and sold her interest in Harley Women. She would then go on to freelance write for many American and overseas magazines. Also, for twelve years she would write for the Japanese magazine Hot Bike. Cris would also continue to use radio and television to "get the word" out to the growing number of women who were buying, riding and yes working on their own bikes. She would even write an acclaimed children’s book about motorcycling called "Patrick wants to ride”. With numerous awards, inductions and cable shows to her credit she would be inducted into the AMA hall of fame in 2003. An interesting note to me, being the avid antique bike collector I am, was the fact that Cris was one of two women entered in this years "Cannonball Run" riding her "Doobie Brothers" husbands 1915 Harley-Davidson twin 3 speed. She had it flown from their home in Maui to the start at Kitty Hawk,N.C. And yes old #89 (the year her and Simmons met) finished the race in Santa Monica, Calif a 3200 mile trek. I really must tell you, my loyal history buffs, that what really got me interested in writing this story "women of motorcycling history" has been my interaction with Ruthie, Robin and Teresa of the Divas. The Tampa Bay chapter is the largest of the organization at 55 members of which 8 are from the founding of the group in 05.The Tampa Bay

Divas tend to assist charity events and groups close to their hearts many times focusing on women and children in need. They have put their name on such charities as Faces of Courage, Blooming Place and BRA Bikers to name just a few. And I know Florida Full Throttle gives them a huge thank you for the helping hand they have given their large events. From selling tickets to directing traffic they can always count on these women rain or shine. I think its important to say you only have to have an interest in motorcycles, the lifestyle and to help others not all ride or have a bike but every great organization needs support to make the big picture work. There is one thing though, you do have to be a female! I also think a mention of Diane Pearson fits well here she’s very well known to us all as its her efforts that result in so many vehicles that remind us with there purple bumper stickers that "Motorcycles are everywhere" Well, my 99 loyal readers, we have seen how the women’s riding clubs and organizations have come about and learned about a great one in our own state that continues what the ones of history started. And we all saw how a national motorcycle magazine was started by two girls that had an idea born out of a simple club news letter. But my readers of epic tales of the past, women riders can also go fast, I mean really fast and with that preface I would like to introduce to you the current woman’s land speed record holder, "The Worlds Fastest Women" Leslie Porterfield. She was born in Dallas Texas and at age 16 she would buy an old motorcycle in a box for 200 dollars. She would fix it, rebuild the carbs and learn to ride it. Mostly because everyone said she couldn't do it and would never learn to master it. They my friends would be proven very, very wrong. She started working for a Yamaha Shop and in no time would own part of the business and would go on to open a second one. After selling these she went into homebuilding, but soon missed the motorcycle business, and in 2005 she opened up High Five Cycle in Dallas. But she always felt the need for speed and had always wanted to set a record at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Leslie bought a used Hayabusa made some "speed mods" to it and took it to the epic lake of speed in August of 2007. Bonneville is tough on first timers, its mushy surface, and its lack of traction. The learning curve is brutal and sometimes deadly.

Porterfield would crash at around 110MPH in her first attempt at a world record and as the medichopper would take her to a Utah hospital with 7 broken ribs, a punctured lung and a concussion. I'm pretty certain there were doubts on the Salty Lake Bed about her returning. But our female speed racer was determined to make a world record hers and she went back to Bonneville in 2008 and she did it. Leslie set her first record on a naked (unfaired) motorcycle at 209 MPH. This would also get her the coveted "Red Hat" and make her the very first woman in the Bonneville 200MPH club on a conventional motorcycle in its 61 year history. She then set the fastest speed of any woman on a motorcycle at 234.197MPH which in March of 2010 would be ratified by the Guinness Book of World records. At the same event Leslie would set the 1000cc production class record on a CBR1000rr at 192.9 MPH. She has "burnt" down tires, crashed and lost clutch levers at 200 mph. She has thrown rods through cases and learned to "ride the salt" but most importantly I think more than the records themselves she has gained the respect of being a formidable and competitive rider by all whether male or female. Going back to Utah in 2009 she would accomplish an amazing feat of speed by winning the coveted Top Speed of The Meet Award (male or female) on a motorcycle of 240.382MPH. The first time in Salt Flat history a woman would take this honor home. Leslie Porterfield holds or has held motorcycle land speed records in 4 classes and all this while being a national spokesperson for the charity "Stand up for kids". She has attained a top speed of 246.6MPH on a motorcycle which to me is an amazing feat of skill, determination and daring. She prides herself on her motto about speed and records "If it was easy everyone would do it’. Not just a Bonneville lady Leslie is working on assembling an all girl team for the grueling and world famous Baja 1000 off road race. When asked what other goals the New Year would bring she said simply “To go faster". This wasn’t what

I was going to write about this month my friends. I usually write about subjects and bikes and history that I have a great knowledge or interest in. But this was different and I must say I learned a lot as I put this article together and I did enjoy it. I have ridden with many local women riders Marilyn Menendez, Shirl Hannigan, Donna Krauser and have been told of the abilities of many others including the Divas. And do not think I have ignored local females Fran Haasch or Jamie Rosenkrans I see an in depth spot in future articles for both. The number of women riders in America is growing an estimated 9.6 percent of motorcycle owners in 2003 were women now the number is close to 15 percent. Today’s modern female riders owe a debt to the women who came before them and showed that motorcycling was indeed for everyone. These pioneering women of the past did some impressive riding and racked up incredible miles considering the road systems were no more than civilized horse trails and maps and gas stations were not what they are today. Having ridden with and been associated with our local women riders I believe they are every bit as good or sometimes better than I am. And if you meet someone who disagrees take this advice from MR 499, never argue with an idiot, they will only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. And my globe conscious friends I bet you thought there would be no way to get a "German" reference in here and yeah I thought that too until I asked Sandra Brandt where the international chapter of the Diva Angels was located, yep you guessed it in Germany! "Auf wiedersehen" MR 499

Full Throttle Magazine Hi there! I just sat down to write about all the things that went on last month. I attended the Gibtown Bike Fest and had a good time. They have quite the facility out there in Gibsonton and filled it with vendors, displays and acts! I also entered my chili in Jim’s Harley-Davidson’s chili cook-off and had a super time. My chili didn’t win this time (yes, I have won cook-offs before) but it was a lot of fun. At press time we are gearing up for the Full Throttle Expo and you know that’s always a fantastic event! If you see me at one of the events and said hi to me and I didn’t say hi back ... I’m sorry! I am usually running around and crazy-busy so please accept my apologies! Here are a few pictures and something different .... I need to see if you are paying attention where you ride! The first person that e-mails me at dewfullthrottle2@ yahoo.com and can tell me the “exact” locations of the two “men” in these photos will win a Full Throttle t-shirt! Good luck !!! Till next time, live life to the fullest and party your a** off !!!!

By the time you get this magazine our build off and expo will be over, so I can not tell you about it. I hope you came and enjoyed it. We have to get our stories in by the 15th-20th so what I do after that has to be in the following months. Like Christmas and New Year. I usually go to see Xmas lights and displays with a friend of mine and her children. It is more fun seeing the kid's excitement and it makes more fun for me. I heard of a display of lights at a place called Tampa Palms in Tampa on Bruce B. Downs and you can believe me it was quite a display along with a place called The Reserve. Believe me it is worth the trip next year! Well it is time for Bike Week again. I probably won’t go to Main Street but will do the swap meets. I think everyone knows it’s my favorite thing to do! I told a story that I heard years ago, but I will tell it again. Somewhere out west they had a swap meet advertised as the largest. I heard that a large bus motor home painted black and orange.

Pulled up they saw hundreds of canopies, vans. Motorhomes, bike, etc. As they got out of the seats you could see they were orange and black with HarleyDavidson emblems on the backs as they opened the door they were heard saying “where are the other couples we thought this was a swap meet”! I just left the Gibsonton Bike Fest. It was a good time as always. The Galaxy Girl was back this year. You should see her up on that pole swaying back and forth. She must have nerves of steel. It scares me just watching. See you soon Christina p.s. Christina is the girl who is the artist who did Tampa Palms lights.

January 2011 – 2011 has seen a tragic beginning to the new year. On January 5th a Davenport couple was killed when 19-year old Shawn Douglas Crosswell “lost control of his car” and crossed into the oncoming traffic lane with his car, killing 61-year old Edward Ira Sparks and 52-year old Judith Ann Sparks. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) has not stated if any charges were filed, or if even a „failure to yield‟ or „violation of the right-of-way‟ citation was issued. Miles away on the same day Dennis J. Bedard, 42, was killed while riding when he was involved in a crash with a Chevrolet Suburban on Estero Boulevard in Bonita Springs, FL. FHP stated that the crash is still being investigated, and have not yet stated if anyone is going to be cited. The driver of the Suburban was not injured and has not been named as of yet. Although we hate to hear of these fatal crashes, we must not lose sight that if the crash is the result of negligent operation of a car, truck, or other motor vehicle, the offending driver SHOULD BE CHARGED. Without severe penalties for this reckless and/or negligent operation that is costing motorcyclists‟ their lives, a majority of the drivers will have no motivation to watch for the motorcycles sharing the same roadways. By the time you‟re reading this, there will have been another hearing come and gone in the Seminole County case where Ruth Perez hit and killed “Diamond” Dave Mackish, as well as the Sumter County case in which Paul th Sermons hit two bikes killing four motorcyclists. Coming up on Feb. 24 there will be another hearing in the Lee County case where Arjuny Jani turned in front of Phillip Baker, casing a crash that killed Baker. Members from ABATE of Florida, Inc.‟s Estero River Chapter will be present at this hearing; contact Chapter President Tammy “Patches” Brennan at 239-289-2647 for more information on this situation. ABATE of Florida, Inc. has been trying for years to get the penalties to negligent or reckless drivers convicted of hitting motorcyclists not only enforced, but more severe. We will be filing our 2011 Stiffer Penalties Bill shortly in the Florida Legislature. Please make sure to check out our website‟s Legislative Information Center and contact your elected representatives to ask them for their support in this efforts. Even with all this work to be done, all of us need to let loose every now and then. Daytona Bike Week fills this need perfectly. And better yet, ABATE of Florida offers motorcyclists attending Bike Week an option that saves them hundreds of dollars when they decide to stay overnight during the event. We have our annual campground about 20 minutes from downtown Daytona Beach with tent camping only $15 (plus FL tax) per night; full 20/30/50 th amp RV hookups are also available for a different rate. Our gates open up at Noon on March 4 , close at Noon th March 13 . We have everything you‟ll need on site; 24-hour security, hot showers, food, beverages, vendors, ATM, and tons of bikers partying! All this and you‟ll also be helping fund our ability to continue to fight for the rights of motorcyclists in Florida. Make sure to visit www.abateflorida.com for more information! Hope to see you all at ABATE of Florida‟s Bike Week Campground! Dave “Lockdown” Rich State Public Relations Trustee, ABATE of Florida, Inc. Gibtown Bike Fest is always a great time with fun stuff to watch and do. If you have never been to Gibtown Bike Fest you are missing out on an event with some very amusing entertainment. Of course there was a live band and a bike show and tons of vendors to walk around and visit, but every year they have a ball of death where they get three guys riding bikes in the metal sphere and they look like they are going to crash and they go upside down and it is a exciting show to watch. This year they also had Galaxy Girl who would climb to the top of this tall contraption and dangle off a little trapeze and stand up using no hands, AND NO NET OR SAFTEY GEAR. She was pretty amazing and drew a crowd every time she put on a show. Gibtown had a nice turn out and was much bigger than the past few years. Make plans to show up next year as it is always a great time with lots to see and do! Tony C.

A big manufacturing company, feeling it was time for a shakeup, hired a new CEO. The new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers. On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning against a wall. The room was full of workers doing their job and he wanted to let them know that he meant business. He asked the guy, “How much money do you make a week?” A little surprised, the young man looked at him and said, “I make $400 a week. Why?” The CEO said, “Wait right here.” He went back to his office, came back in two minutes, and handed the guy $1,600 in cash and said, “Here’s four weeks’ pay. Now GET OUT and don’t come back you’re fired.” Feeling pretty good about himself, the CEO looked around the room and asked, “Does anyone want to tell me what that goof-ball did here?” From across the room a voice said, “He’s the pizza delivery guy from Domino’s.”

Susan opened the morning newspaper and was dumbfounded and shocked to read in the obituary column that he had died. She quickly phoned her best friend Sally, a not to swift blonde. ‘Sally this is Susan, did you see the paper this morning?’ She asked her friend. ‘They say I died!!’ ‘Yes, I saw it!’ replied Sally. ‘Where are you calling from?’

Two priests died at the same time and met Saint Peter at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter said, “I’d like to get you guys in now, but our computer’s down. You will have to go back to earth for about a week, but you can’t go back as priests. What’ll it be?” The first priest says, “I’ve always wanted to be an eagle, soaring above the Rocky Mountains.” “So be it,” says St. Peter, and off flies the first priest. The second priest mulls this over for a moment and asks, “Will any of this week ‘count’ St. Peter?” He asked. “No I told you the computer’s down, There’s no way we can keep track of what you are doing.” “In that case,” says the second priest, “I’ve always wanted to be a stud” “So be it” says St. Peter, and the second priest disappears. A week goes by, the computer is fixed, and the Lord tells St. Peter to recall the two priest. “Will you have any trouble locating them? he asks. “The first one should be easy,” says St. Peter, “He’s somewhere over the Rockies, flying with the eagles. But the second one could prove to be more difficult.” “Why?” asks the Lord. “He’s on a snow tire, somewhere in Montana.”

So what do we have to look for in 2011? Daytona is in March this year. We have a NEW BIKER BAR in New Port Richey on Hwy 54, just east of US Hwy 19. The Thunder Tavern is having their Grand Opening Party Feb. 19. Mel Carver X-Bucs NFL player will be cooking some great stuff. You need to come by on bike or in cage. Big Party with Biker Fun. I heard Wicked Chopper, on US 19 in Port Richey, had such fun at their grand opening party, which they want to thank everyone. So what better way than to have another party March 19th. Mark your calendar. Skinnys Bar and Grill on US 19 in Hudson has Mon. Bike Nights the 1st and 3rd of the month. Great food all the time. Also, Stop by DNA Cycles in Port Richey on Leo Kidd and check out their bigger and better show room. Getting Better All The Time. I would like to wish, along with DJ Patti, Happy Birthday to her son Chris. So till next time. Ride Safe and look out for the bad drivers. The Big “O

FL NEW “FAKE POT” LAWS The State of Florida is starting to crack down and if they get their way there will be no more K2, 420 Incense, Barely Legal or Spice. If you don’t know what these are, you are not as hip as you think! These are brand names for “fake pot” or synthetic marijuana which is sold by the gram in head shops and convenience stores across the state. The manufactured funny-smelling stuff not only creates a “high” it also causes vertigo, nausea, vomiting and severe headaches. Look for new laws regarding these “drugs” this year.

CES ATTENDANCE UP THIS YEAR The CES (Consumer Electronics Show) that took place in Las Vegas last month had it’s largest attendance since 2006 with an estimated 140,000 people. This show features all of the latest and newest electronic gadgets, new telephone technology, big screen televisions, audio systems, computers and almost anything else you can think of!

YUM BRANDS SELLING! Yum Brands is selling their Long John Silver and A&W Restaurant chains so it can focus on their other fast food empires. Yum also owns Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken. Wow ... I wonder if the chairman is overweight or has a cholesterol problem?

ARE THEY TOO BIG? Just how big is big? The Justice Department and the Federal Communications Commission gave Comcast the go-head to purchase General Electric (who also owns NBC Universal) for a whopping $6.5-billion. The conglomerate will not only be a power in broadcast and cable, but also own Telemundo, USA Network, CNBC, Bravo and Universal Studios. Advocates say that Comcast will use its power to choke competition in television and new on-line ventures and keep prices high.

NEED AN APP TO BUY COFFEE? You can now purchase your Starbucks coffee by using your smart phone. Customers can pay for their purchase using available apps on their iphones and blackberrys. The apps are downloaded and funded via credit cards. Look for an Android version in the near future. Starbucks Vice President Brady Brewer said, “Your wallet or purse isn’t always with you, but your mobile phone is always by your side”.

NEW FANTASYLAND! Finally Disney will update Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom ... Snow White’s ride is out and Little Mermaid is in! There will also be a new Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train and a new Beauty and the Beast themed restaurant. Toontown is receiving a make-over and the entire area will be refurbished. The area will now be called “New Fantasyland” and open in fall 2012.

REVAMPED AMERICAN IDOL... CASINO-STYLE GAMBLING LEGAL? The State of Florida under new Governor Rick Scott, is taking a serious look at legalizing casinostyle gambling including blackjack, roulette, baccarat, craps and slot machines. The talk of building four or five casino-resorts (at least 75 miles apart from each other) is moving forward. The state says the resorts could be great revenue streams for the state. They would include retail stores, restaurants, movie theaters and convention halls and not just gambling centers.

I gotta say that the new American Idol judging panel is pretty damn good! I thought that Jennifer Lopez not only looked smoking hot, she did a solid job. I also thought that Randy Jackson seemed to be more assertive, forceful and talkative than in years before. My biggest surprise was how much I enjoyed Steven Tyler! Hell, I even forgot about mean, old, Simon What’s-hisname after watching the Aerosmith frontman! The show needed a look and I think Lopez and Tyler will do the show proud in 2011!
