Welcome to 2010 !! Wow that sure sounds funny ... twenty-ten. I sure hope this year is better than last year as the economy really beat everybody up! I hope that things start to get better so we can all start saving, spending, taking vacations and purchasing ads like we all did two years ago! I sincerely want to thank every advertiser that spent money with Full Throttle last year. Without you, there would be no magazine. My entire staff works extremely hard to put out the best motorcycle publication possible. People like editor Tony, columnist NightTrain and event coordinator Reverand Jim always go that extra mile to make sure things are done right. Salespeople like: Dew, Phil, Wayne, Keel, Owen, Missy, Tracey and Gary, Pee Wee, Tom and Patty, Donta and Bubba do a fantastic job in a very difficult economy. One thing that remains constant is our readers. You continue to pick up our magazine everywhere we leave them. We have continued to keep our print runs constant and we know you are reading the mag every month. Our website continues to grow and our e-mail list is expanding daily. I look forward to 2010 and I do see things improving! I want to remind everybody about our Annual Florida Motorcycle Expo that will take place on January 3031 at the Harborview Center in downtown Clearwater. This is the biggest event we do all year and if you attended last year, you know it is fantastic! Live music on two stages, food and drinks, tattoo contests, ride-in bike show, the always crazy Miss Full Throttle Pageant, $100 raffle every hour, hundreds of vendors and the Bike Builder Invitational! Please circle your calendar and we’ll see you at the Harborview Center! Have a safe month and ride responsibly!

Facebook

Welcome 2010!!!!! I think 2010 is going to be a great year for Full Throttle Magazine and the entire motorcycle community. We have a lot of great interviews set up with some really exciting builders and celebrities in the motorcycle community. That’s all I am going to say or else Night train will strangle me! Congrats to Night Train and Robert DeMoss on 1 year of writing great articles for us each and every month. These two have both become great friends of mine and Full Throttle Magazine and have brought us some great editorial that we desperately needed. We look forward to their articles each and every month, Thanks guys! Here we are again, it’s EXPO and BUILD OFF time!!! If you want a booth or have a bike you built and would like to enter it in the show for the possibility of winning $5,000.00, call our offices and we will take care of you. Booths are discounted from last year to make sure in this GREAT economy; it is affordable for everyone who would like to show up. Motorcycle entries are FREE for the Invitational also, just call Rev. Jim and set up a time for him to come view your bike and see if it is the caliber we are looking for to enter Invitational. WE ARE LOOKING FOR THE BEST!!!! We are selling Sponsors again for Bike Week 2010 in Daytona Beach. We will be set up at Ironhorse Saloon, Beach Street across from Harley and in front of JP cycles. Sponsorships are only $750.00 and we will hand out your info at all 3 of our booths to the people walking by. You will also get your logo and info on a full page ad with all of the other sponsors in the March and April issues. We will be printing thousands of extra magazines to hand out to all the bikers who show up to Bike Week this year! All Sponsors will also get a free web banner on our home page and will be listed on our weekly e-mail that has over 5,000 e-mails. Deadline for this will be February 15th, 2010. I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! Please be safe out there and don’t drink and ride or drive. If you are a facebooker please become a fan of our fan page, just search “Florida Full Throttle Magazine” we have over 900 fans at press time and I am constantly posting new photos, questions and comments, and events that are upcoming that you should be attending. I am looking to get 1000 by January 15th!!! Let’s try and make it happen. Be safe, be smart and live life Full Throttle!!!

Each week I receive several calls from people that are the subject of a criminal investigation with various questions about what they should do. After talking with some of these people, it becomes quite apparent that some of them do not even realize that they are the subject of a potential criminal prosecution. So exactly what should one do? The first and obvious thing is to hire an attorney. Once you have retained a criminal attorney and the police are made aware of this through a letter and a telephone call from the attorney, the police are no longer permitted to contact you without the attorney’s permission. I never let my clients go down to the station unrepresented. In fact, in 99% of my cases I don’t allow the police to talk to my client at all. Of course, there are very few minor exceptions where I have set up a meeting with the authorities along with my client, as it was readily apparent that they were targeting the wrong person. I have been posed the question thousands of times “Why don’t you let your client talk with the police if they have nothing to hide?” The answer is simple. If a client who is the target of a criminal investigation speaks with the police, anything they say can be used against them in their prosecution. Most people do not handle a police interview as well as they do talking to friends and family members. They might say something that appears to incriminate them when they really didn’t mean it to come out that way. And more importantly is the fact that some law enforcement have convicted you well before a jury has an opportunity to hear your case and possibly acquit you of the charges. Take for instance a recent case of mine in Federal Court in the Middle District of Florida dealing with cocaine trafficking. The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) along with Tampa Police Department (TPD) arrested and interviewed my client well before I was hired to represent him. After the interview he was taken to jail where he sat for a very long time before being released on bond. As I become involved deeper into the case I realized that my clients “alleged” statements that were obviously incriminating were going to be a problem for

not only my client, but more importantly for the agents involved in the case. The agents failed to tape record my client’s statement, failed to video record my client’s statement, and they failed to give my client the opportunity to write out a statement regarding his actions. Why do you think they did that? The reason may not be so obvious to a layperson, but to a criminal lawyer it is obvious: Law enforcement prefers for it to be your word against theirs. They believe that 99 out of 100 times a jury will believe the badge over the accused. And to a certain extent they are right, because the majority of the public refuses to believe that those that are there to serve and protect you would be willing to lie under oath. Now I am not saying every person in law enforcement is dishonest, but the small percentage that are can ruin a person’s life in a matter of seconds. They all have the capability to tape record, or even video record interviews. In fact, they can do it without you knowing and that is legal in Florida (by the way, it is illegal for you to tape record someone else’s conversation with you without their permission and knowledge in Florida). But many of them continuously choose not to utilize the simple technology made available for there interviewing purposes. For 39 cents (the cost of an audio tape) the truth could be played in open court. Furthermore, if a person who is the target of a criminal investigation refuses to speak to law enforcement, this fact can never be brought up or used against them in a court of law. Some people believe that by giving law enforcement their side of the story, the law enforcement will help them out in the long run. This is simply not true. They often want you to talk because they do not have enough to arrest you with, and are waiting for you to slip up. If they threaten to take you to jail, then so be it, let them take you, as nothing you will say will change their mind. Be careful of the good cop bad cop routine. This is just an act by them trying to gain your confidence. They both are in on the charade. The best advice I can ever give my clients is that if law enforcement ever wants to interview them, JUST SAY NO!

STEAMSHIPS , FIGHTER PLANES AND MOTORCYCLES

A friend up the street stopped in to my bike barn the other day, now he’s not a motor cycling nut such as me. Although he does have a very cool 1971 Mercedes 280SL Roadster (which I consider to be a piece of automotive history ) so he does have an appreciation for “moving art”. He said matter of factly that my newer 2000 Ducati 750SS , that while being a great looking bike, it wasn’t as classic a beauty as my 1976 BMW R100 Sport was. And I thought for a bit and said “you my friend are absolutely right”. I commented its a far better machine, but not as handsome as the old boxer twin. While the Ducati is a fuel injected, carbon fiber and abs plastic wonder, red-red with fairings and wind tunnel engineered lines and that on paper its a far superior bike. But I thought to myself how can you beat the two 40 mm polished bing carburetors , the finned aluminum heads and rough cast aluminum? Even when each part is admired individually ,they are each small pieces of artwork with a design and beauty of their own.Isn’t that what makes a car , a boat, a building classic? The sum of its parts admired collectively.I am truly a fan of the late 60’s to mid 70’s motorcycles. In the 60’s the the Brit bike companies began to die off, Triumph, Norton, Velocette, the list goes on , but by the mid 60’s their best was behind them. But coming into the glorious 70’s , you had the BMW R90/S , R100/s , the bevel drive Ducati 900SS , the Harley XLCR, Guzzi Eldorado 850 and the Kawasaki Z-1R , This is truly an amazing group of bikes arriving at one point in history , and in the 70”s you could find them at their respective dealerships pick one out and go. My collection has many mid 70’s bikes that make up some of my favorites , my 1975 XS 650 , 1975 BMW R90/6 and my R100/S , Moto Guzzi 850 and 74 Titan 500.Fast , reliable , great brakes and handling marked this period of bike building , and unlike their 60’s predecessors they didn’t mark their spot when parked. These bikes have a mechanical, almost industrial purpose , an absence of plastic and over engineered do-dads that the later bikes recieved because no big engineering break throughs were left to discover. They had the look of function , real beauty and class . I truly believe my R100/S is one of the most beautiful bikes BMW has ever built or will build , it’s their Shelby Cobra. But this is a bike that the sum of every individual part makes a bike that stops most everyone in their tracks. I’m sure many old Triumph people feel the same about some models of their marquee. The old bonnevilles are the E-type Jag of that Brit bike brand to many of them. I do not think BMW ,The big four of Japan or Ducati will ever re-create the late 60’s to the mid 70’s character, class and looks and a combo of form and function. Yes, the new bikes work better , go faster and may last longer but are they classics to the eye ? Do they have the personality and the spirit of that period of time ? I think not. Many mechanical things had their “Great Age” a period where engineering and beauty met and co-existed.Steamships had the 30”s50”s,Airplanes had the 40”s-60”s and motorcycles had the late 60”s to 70”s period. I have a real passion for old things that float. Steamships had a “Golden Age” and their story parallels motorcycles. Can you compare the old ocean liners , the Queen Mary , the Normandie , the United States to the huge boxes of today? The old girls had lines , form , and function. They had a character and class. But they also had speed and advanced engineering. The United States still holds its 1952 speed record for crossing the atlantic, all 990 ft and 245,000 horsepower of her. But todays ships are safer, more efficient , bigger and again the sum of their parts made them what they were and are today . Pull out an aviation book and look at a P51 Mustang , a Spitfire

or a P38 Lightning all amazingly perfect for their time and deadly in use , but compare them to todays F16 or F-117 stealth fighter the highest tech planes ever. But then think which ones picture would you hang over your fireplace or in your office ? No , I think you would know a classic anything when you see it,you don’t have to be a pilot to love that Spitfire , or a Captain to marvel at the lines of the SS United States or a motorcyclist to love a Ducati bevel drive. When you see something you study it , its parts , its lines , how it flows. You have no doubt , you need no one elses opinion. Something comes on in that “classics” part of you brain. The 70’s had alot against it , the Vietnam war , cars got worse looking , the fuel crisis ,hostages in Iran and Nixon . But a couple things the seventies gave us may never be repeated again. One was great motorcycles and the other was some pretty great Rock and Roll. Music and motorcycles and me being stuck in that decade with both, well maybe its and age thing or maybe I just know what I like when i see it ,or hear it.............. “AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT” On a bitterly cold winters day,up in one of the cold states of the usa,a Highway Patrol officer on patrol came across a motorcyclist, who was covered in protective clothing and helmet, stalled by the roadside.” Whats the matter?” asked the officer.”Carburetors frozen” was the terse reply.”Pee on it.That will thaw it out”................”Cant”..........” OK,watch me and I will show you”.The officer lubricated the carburetor,as promised. The bike started and the rider drove off, waving.A few days later, the Cheif recieved a note of thanks from the father of the motorcyclist...... It began:”On behalf of my daughter, who was recently stranded............”

Full Throttle Magazine Hi all, and Happy New Year to all of you and a wonderful 2010 to all our friends and family. The Full Throttle Expo and Biker Build-Off is coming in January. That would be January 30 and 31st. I am looking back at pictures from the last year and all things we've done and the fun we've had. We had a great turn out for all the Toys Runs and Parades and we thank all of you for attending no matter how the weather was. Some parades took longer to complete than others (you have to make sure there is gas in the fire truck). Looking forwarding to all that 2010 has in store for us and Happy 21st Birthday to Chef Bacon aka my son Mitchell.

Jim’s Toy Run was a huge success like it is every year! It was a little chilly on the morning of December 6th but everyone seemed to find their leathers and show up for a great cause. Jamie, Greenie, Jeremy and the whole crew at Jim’s HarleyDavidson did a great job this year! There were 1,249 motorcycles on the run this year, 1,861 people and $18,000.00 was raised! Congrats to everyone who went on the toy run. See you again next year!

Drunken Clam Bike Night As Peter on the "Family Guy" says "I'm going down to the Clam". And you don't have to ride to Quahog to get to their great bike night! It's on the 3rd. Tuesday of each month and the past three I have been to were super. The band Rebel Pride has been playing there and they have great looking bartenders serving great food and liquor, (try the shrimp). A "panel" of judges pick one bike at 8:00pm for stardom and a trophy , and they always (usually!) get it right! St. Pete. Beach is a very biker friendly town. They have a great motor unit of their own. You will find the "Drunken Clam" which, by the way, has the best $10 bike night shirt ever!, at 46 46th. Avenue in St. Pete. Beach 727-3601800 -Bob DeMoss

It’s that time again. January 2 Webster, Jan.12-17 Gibsonton Bike Fest, and our own Full Throttle Expo Jan. 30-31. Three of my favorites in one month. Starts the New Year out right. I have attended every one of our birthday parties and expos since the magazine started. I have seen some of the best bikes built last year. Ed Tooley’s Egyptian bike won the best at the Rat’s Hole in Daytona. It was shown at our show first! Also we had the most beautiful girls in our beauty contest. You all know I liked that! See you there. The Gibsonton Bike Fest gets an “A” rating from me. They have free camping. Vendors in the inside can come in Tuesday the 12 at 3pm all other areas Thursday the 14 at 3pm. AMERICA’S YOUTH

“ Too young to drink but not too young for Capital Punishment “

Seventeen year old. Christopher Simmons murdered Shirley Cook in 1993, when he was 17 years old. After a robbery attempt, he bound and gagged the woman, and pushed her off a railroad trestle, causing her death. Prior to the robbery, he told his accomplice that they could get away with murder because they were juveniles. He was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death.” He argued that execution for a murder that he committed at the age of 17 would be cruel and unusual punishment, In the United States laws vary from state to state as to what age a juvenile convicted of a serious crime may be sentenced to death. In 1988 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional to impose the death penalty on a person who had committed the offense when aged fifteen or younger. According to statistics, between 1990 and 1995, 36 persons who were under the age of 18 were sentenced to death, the majority of them being from the state of Texas (Hood 89). “In the last 30 years, 22 people have been executed for murders they committed as juveniles. All were 17 when they killed except one, who was 16. Sentencing rates also have fallen, from 18 juveniles condemned in 1994 to two so far this year.” (Victor Streib, a law professor at Ohio Northern University) Moreover, even where such executions are legal, most states simply aren’t executing the juvenile killers on their Death Rows. Alabama has not done it since 1961, Florida since 1954 and Mississippi since 1950. “Texas is continuing the practice most regularly,” Streib said. “Of the 22 juvenile killers executed in the past three decades, 13 were put to death in Texas.” During the last several years, Florida has emerged as the toughest state on juvenile crime, a perception that is now backed up with hard statistics from the Office of Juvenile

Justice and Delinquency Prevention. In 1995, Florida transferred 7,000 juveniles to the adult court system, 2,200 more juveniles than transferred to the adult court system nationwide (Klug 100). Juvenile arrests for violent crimes will more than double by the year 2010 if recent national trends continue; the number of youths arrested for murder is expected to increase by 145 percent by the year 2010. Much of the criticism surrounding sentencing juveniles to death row centers on the hypocrisy involved. For instance, juveniles under the age of 18 cannot vote, buy cigarettes, or join the armed services. Additionally, children under the age of eighteen cannot buy alcohol. According to the U.S. government, juveniles below this minimum age do not have the reasoning skills and the judgment necessary to make sound and responsible choices. This reasoning is conspicuously absent when governments decide at what age juveniles should be held accountable for the judgments they make when committing a serious crime (McCormick 15). Studies suggest juveniles cannot control impulses and are more susceptible to peer pressure than adults. “We’re not trying to remove responsibility from adolescents,” said Dr. Richard Ratner, past president of the American Society for Adolescent Psychiatry and a psychiatry professor at George Washington University. “We’re just trying to say that because adolescent brains are not fully mature, we ought to withhold the ultimate punishment of death for their crimes.” During the adolescent years, juveniles undergo cognitive and socieo-emotional processes. Between the ages of 12 to 18 adolescents begin to solve problems by way of deductive reasoning (Santrock 334). However, during the teen years cognitive development and reasoning skills are still developing, just as the adolescent is. For this reason, adolescents do not have the same fully developed reasoning abilities as adults. They are biologically incapable of reaching the same decisions an adult would in any given circumstance because their reasoning skills are still in the developmental stages (McCormick 15). In addition juveniles are

especially vulnerable to peer pressure. Since junior high and high schools are plagued with gang activity, the pressure to join in illegal activity is often more than many adolescents can withstand.” When a society starts killing its children, something is wrong, something is deadly wrong.” Joseph Green Brown, death row survivor, 1998. If we are to truly become the humanitarian society we claim to be, we must reevaluate the standards to which we condemn our youth, and then take proactive steps towards building a new system that takes into account their diminished decision and reasoning capacity. Individuals, who are too young to vote, buy alcohol or cigarettes, or serve in defense of the country, are surely too young to be sentenced to death. I do not agree to apply criminal law, whose main purpose is to punish juvenile offenders. If young murders are applied to criminal law and are cast in jail, they are punished and are insulated from society for a long time. It would be hard for them to be reintegrated into society. It is a shame to spoil the life what he/she did when he/ she was young. I believe education would be able to change young people. I believe they should be given a chance to make a recovery. Should my son ever be convicted and condemned to death, my viewpoint as a father is; I would rather visit my son in jail than visit my son’s grave. Works Cited Hood, R. I receive countless emails each month asking how I consistently get such extraordinary photos of beautiful people and motorcycles. This column was created for you the camera wielding biker, and will hopefully answer many questions about how to shoot images like a pro glamour photographer. In the months that follow I’ll provide easy to follow tips on how to increase your photographic expertise and “get the shot” when your favorite girl or guy poses with your cool ride. In this initial installment of what I’ll call “Biker Photo 101,” I’ll give you a few tips that should help you when shooting a hot girl with a not so hot bike or vice versa. Many times during biker events I see guys (and girls) asking people to pose with their scoots for a quick photo. While this is often a great idea, often times the results are disappointing. One of the first rules of glamour photography is to pick your subject, background and wardrobe carefully. Lets address the first two items only, since “grab” shots do not usually have the benefit of wardrobe selection. You’ve found the perfect “10” walking down the street and she (or he) agreed to pose with your bike… now what? If your bike is a “2” and your model is a “10” concentrate and compose the image primarily of the model, not the bike. I’ve included examples of model Mia Mckinley posing with a great looking bike, but these images were shot with emphasis on the model… not on the bike. You see bike elements in this example, but even if the bike were ugly, the model isn’t, and the photo would still work. Here’s the first of many tips to come: TIP #1 – Emphasize (make prominent) the best-looking element in a photo of a bike and a model. Not all models are “10’s” or are all bikes award winners. Remember the purpose of glamour photography is to produce a glamorous photo. Think of it as a ratio between the model and the bike. The more glamorous the model the more prominent her image should be as you frame the shot. The more fine the ride will require you to make it appear more prominently in the shot, but never more than the model, unless your trying for a product shot (selling the motorcycle, for example.) Until next time… Stay in Focus, Jack Watson – Celebrity/Glamour Photographer Email: jackwatsonphotography@hotmail.com

WELCOME 2010!!! December 2009 was an awesome month for us. I have to admit it that it always makes me feel proud to see so many people coming together to help others. Most often the spirit of the holidays always shines through regardless of the issues that any of our Diva’s might be handling in their personal lives. We have had fund raising events, poker runs, Sertoma Speech and Hearing fund raiser, Diva Hope Poker Run, toys rides, Old Palm Harbor, bike nights, Christmas parade, Chasco Parade, adopted a needy family and assisted an elementary school with supplies and I’m sure I have missed something. Basically, our ladies are always willing to give back to our community and assist wherever needed. This year we look forward to new and exciting adventures for our group. I personally would like to thank of our past officers for a great year and welcome the 2010 Pasco Diva Officers. We welcome you to contact us at pascodivaangels@ yahoo.com for additional information and details about our meetings and rides. As always, ride safe.

November 24, 2009 was an extremely important day to me. It was as if I was born again. Not in the religious sense. It was sort of my own declaration of independence. That is the day I was summoned to come in and be sworn in as an American citizen. Prior to my swearing-in ceremony, I reflected upon the words I was about to pronounce as my allegiance to the flag and to the country. In this process I decided to review the history and the people behind the United States of America. The more I learned the more I became overwhelmed with the sense that becoming an American citizen for me was not “earned” because I worked hard at it but because it was a “privilege”. As I stood there in one of the Tampa Convention Center halls prior to becoming part of the “winning team”, I observed what was said and done around me in a sea of prospect US citizens. In a crowd of over 1,000 people, there were 400 individuals who were being sworn in of which approximately 40 were from Cuba plus another 40 from Mexico. Other countries averaged about 20 people per country for a total of 80+ countries. The master of ceremony went on calling each country one by one. People had to stand up as he would be calling their countries of origins. Everyone who was called for the most part looked happy and waved their little American flag in their hands. I even saw people jumping and dancing out of joy at the privilege of becoming part of the “winning team”. Sadly, in a conversation held with another individual about to be sworn in, the individual boldly made the comment “no big deal”. To my shocking surprise, I found that based on “beliefs” or other exceptional circumstances, a prospect US citizen could be sworn in even by stating a partial oath of allegiance. As I proudly and happily stood there pronouncing every single word of the oath of allegiance with the majority of people around me, I observed a few individuals with their lips shut. My point here is that if you are intending to become part of a team, become part of the team 100%! 100% commitment, 100% loyalty and 100% hard work from every single member of a team is what I believe makes a winning team. No exceptions. No partial commitments. Pure drive and passion towards a common goal.

The Lightning Rod Motorcycles Inc. team (www.lightningrodmotorcycles.com) is exactly that. Four very distinct individuals with a variety of unique backgrounds, talents and skills at the core of the engine revving beneath Lightning Rod Motorcycles Inc. 100% commitment. 100% loyalty. 100% hard work. 100% pure creativity. 100% unrestrained passion. An explosive combination of essential and critical ingredients that earned this small rising force not one (1) but five (5) of the 2009 Panama City Beach, Fall Rally, “Best of the Beach” awards for their “Retro-Racer” model which was judged by the International Master Bike Builders Association (www.masterbikebuilders.com)! (Look out Mr. 400+!) One of the most prominent figures in the circuit, Mr. Cyril Huze once said about these guys that “They build simple custom bikes but fancy enough to look like factory concept motorcycles with a reasonable price. The ones you really want in your garage just after buying one from the Harley Davidson dealer show floor.” They are now charging back by entering our own 12th Annual Florida Motorcycle Expo “2010 Bike Builder Invitational” held in Clearwater, FL. on January 30th and 31st. When all is said and done and if I look at the history and products of Lightning Rod Motorcycles Inc., it was just a matter of time before I was going to write about them. In fact, I sheepishly wonder why Full Throttle is so late doing it. So many other world renown reputable publications have already paid their tributes one way or another. Should we be surprised? Every single build has been in national and international magazines. The “Bone Shaker” (their first bobber model) was also featured on National Television (SPEED Channel – American Thunder). As I write this, a confirmation has come my way that Lightning Rod will be featured in an Oriental, a European and two North American magazines (including Florida Full Throttle) within the next few months. These four wrenches are incorporated. They also have a good standing manufacturer’s license issued by the State of Florida. There are good reasons for that. It appears a number of individuals observed and caught-on, realizing the Lightning Rod rides will soon be prized possessions if not “collection items”. Orders for the Retro-Racer “Knuckle Dragger” front end of the bike were coming in within a month after the bike was completed and they are still coming! As a result of the increased demand and despite economic climate they are also launching a production bike called “Rayo 1” modeled after their famous “Oro Fundido” model. The model according to Stephen, will be better built and with pure raw horse power. The “Rayo 1” model will be available as of January 2010 at a sticker price of $15,995.00 through our own Greg’s Custom Cycles (www.gregscycles.com) out of Clearwater, Fl and who is also an accomplished custom builder. The bike will carry a yet to be determined warranty and financing will be available through Greg’s Customs Cycles too!! From what Greg is telling me, depending on credit scores, a 5 year 100% financing deal will turn out to be only a few dollars per day to get your own “Rayo 1”. What I appreciate about the Lightning Rod team is that they have already gained global recognition in the professional elite custom building community and they are right here in Florida among all of

us involved in many different ways within our communities! There is not an ounce of pretension in any one of the players. I can witness to that. These guys can roll with the punches. When I showed up with my faithful and loyal photographer friend Tom Tobin of www.dreamweaverphotography. com, we unexpectedly requested their cooperation in doing a shoot at a different location. This meant a ride somewhere else to and fro and an additional couple hours to what was planned. These soldiers went beyond the call of duty to help and accommodate. They treated us as if we were one of them and made us feel welcomed. Had they been of a celebrity mindset I can assure you from experience that we could not have changed the schedule last minute. Often times they ride their roaring beasts right here among us to different events. No posers here! Just riders at heart. Their motorcycles are not trailer queens, they are made one by one to be ridden hard and long. At the forefront of the team, Stephen Carr and Rick Bonin are the originators of Lightning Rod Motorcycles Inc. Stephen, son of Carlton and Sue Ann was born in 1963. Dad is a retired US Army helicopter pilot who went to Vietnam. Mom, who died of cancer in 1995 still to this day plays a huge role in Stephen’s heart. Stephen moved to Florida from Enterprise, Alabama back in 1983 where our sister

He attended trade school for electronics while working at a “rice burner” (non American made motorcycles) dealership in Tampa for two years. Stephen built his first custom bike in his garage in 2005. Stephen was once married in 1990 and divorced in 2006. Stephen admits today one of the hardest experiences he has ever had was his divorce. He shared with me that the best way to deal with a situation like that for him was “not to argue and to keep a cool level head”. To me this says that when Stephen is put to test, he probably is pretty well anchored in the midst of chaos. A character trait much needed at the helm of any business. (Hoping my day job boss will read this!) Today Stephen is now happily engaged to his best friend, Vicki. As for Rick, despite my many attempts at cracking the code to get through to him, he remains a mystery to me and many others. That is, except for his long time and loyal buddy “Mickey” the kitty cat to whom he serves freshly picked-up food from the market every single day. Now calm down ladies. Rick was never married, “never wished it” and still does not sound like he does. Rick was born in California in 1960. Rick started to tinker with mechanics at age 15 and built his first turbocharger then. Rick always had a fixation with speed. Dad worked in a shipyard and was in charge of inspecting ships before delivery and mom was at home. One thing you can be assured of if you spend some time with him is a good chuckle. Every single paint job or forms the Lightning Rod bikes have were born in Rick’s mind. Rick is a seasoned and accomplished artist designer with a portfolio of clients which would make the envy of many. He has not had a car since 1995. If it rains, he simply does not go out. Among the four players of this force not to be reckoned with, Rick is by stature a giant but after a while you start to figure he really is a good guy who would not hurt a fly. The last two pillars of the team are Vicki Griswold and Robert Hitch. Vicki was born in Winter Park, Florida. Vicki is in charge of administration, promotion, marketing etc. She is a strong driving force behind the machine and is sold out to Lightning Rod. There is a real sweet human side to her especially when her dad (Victor) becomes part of the conversation. First born out of two children, “I was dad’s favorite son” she says laughing. the forefront of my house. As crazy as it sounds, when I raised that flag I gave it a salute. Literally. I am now a proud team member and citizen of the United States of America. 100% committed. 100% loyal. 100% excited. You’re stuck with me folks! My allegiance is not partial. By definition a lightning rod is a metal rod or conductor mounted on top of a building and electrically connected to the ground through a wire, to protect the building in the event of lightning. If lightning strikes the building it will preferentially strike the rod, and be conducted harmlessly to ground through the wire, instead of passing through the building, where it could start a fire or cause electrocution. A lightning rod is a single component in a lightning protection system. The Lightning Rod crew is on our home team. They are committed 100%. No partial fluff here! When you will be out there riding or even driving and seeing fire in the sky, remember the all American made Lightening Rod Motorcycles Inc. The thought may be farfetched but I believe the Lightening Rod crew has what it takes to significantly contribute to preserving and protecting the amazing legacy of the custom bike building industry. I can’t wait to see what’s coming for them. They are right there at the forefront of the trend setting movement and at the rate things are going, my guess is prospect buyers will soon find themselves on a waiting list. Thank You 2009

I want to say thank you to so many people I don’t know where to start. I’ll start from the heart and say, thank you to my sister and brother for putting up with me all the years. I know it’s hard to believe but I have not always been the best brother in my past. Sometimes I didn’t make the best choice in my life, but my sister and brother never turned their back on me. I want to say thank you to Patti for the last two years. Now to the rest. I want to say a very big thank you to Earl of A + Trailers on St Rd 52 just east of 41. He has been with me from my start with Full Throttle. If you ever need a trailer to haul your bike or if you want to start a racecar team. He can get whatever you need. Check with A + Trailer for sales and service and service after the sale. They can take care of all your trailer needs. Pat’s Place in Zephyrhills is a biker friendly local bar right on 54 as you enter Zephyrhills. Main Street Zephyrhills has been in the magazine for years now and is doing a great job with their Music and Motorcycle Event. Drop in for the day and do some country riding around Zephyrhills. Prime Time on 19 has been around so long we did a TV

show there one time. Still good food and lots of TV’s to watch all sport events. Great place for a bike night or any bike event. Cotee River Lounge in Port Richey started in Full Throttle as Cotee River Saloon and now has an up and going Thursday night Bike Night with free food, DJ Patti MC music and games. Sunday they have a buffet breakfast for only $4.00 from 10am till Noon. Makes for a great place to meet at and start the Sunday ride. Thanks to Up The Creek Pub for a fun grand opening party. They’re at Grand and Trouble Creek in Elfers. The Boat Club in Tarpon Springs is what it is and what it will always be. A Biker Bar that welcomes everybody. It’s fun to see how some of the non-locals try to relate to the bikers. I saw somebody flash one time with their bra on. Wild women. It takes all types to make the world go round. I try to see A Work Of Art in everything. I also need to thank Paul, Tracy, Pops and to Tony for letting me check out all the bike events and telling things the way I see them. Anybody I missed? Please tell me about it and I’ll try to make it up to you. Invite me to your next party and we’ll talk to you about it. Until next time. Ride Safe and look out for the bad drivers. The Big “O”

MAKE 2010 A SAFE ONE AND A BETTER ONE

Bubba, my husband got a Harley last year and that was bad enough, but now he wants to get a tattoo. I see you have tattoos. Does having a bike make you stupid or what? Peggy Dear Peggy: My advice is for your husband to get the tattoo and get rid of you, it will cost him much less in the long run! Bubba, Is there anything you don’t bitch about?

That is a good question, so I asked my panel of experts and they reminded me that if it weren’t for complaints there would be no changes in our country such as the Boston Tea Party, the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Women’s Right to Vote, etc. etc. etc. But to answer your question, here goes, A waitress that keeps my coffee cup filled, cold beer in an ice cold mug, good sex, a good cigar, a good day fishing, chipped beef on toast, old time rock and roll, a rich middle aged widow about 18, ride my bike and not get stopped by a cop! But remember a man that has no enemies is no good. For one cannot move without producing friction. Good night Just Jeff where ever you are. Bubba

As we begin a new year, I thought we’d re-visit the question some bikers are being asked consistently: Why do you ride without wearing a helmet? I’m not going to try and tell you that not wearing a helmet while you ride offers the ultimate in safety. Wearing a helmet has its benefits. However, let’s talk about some mostly unknown points, and bring them to light. First, to simulate the impact a helmet experiences while your head is in it during a crash, the DOT requires helmet 1 manufacturers to drop the helmets on an anvil at 4.7 MPH to 13.4 MPH. Some of the research I’ve read even tries to sell the idea that if you’re traveling at 67 MPH and crash, your head with a helmet on will finally impact somewhere at the equivalent of 2 I think most of us are much more intelligent than that. Hell, I’m almost insulted at that hitting an anvil at 11 MPH! assumption! Since the government has spent years and so much money to convince us, the ones that actually ride, that helmets are the next best thing since sliced bread, consider this: helmets can offer a false sense of safety. Many will hate to admit it, but if they look deep inside, they’ll admit that when they’re riding with a helmet on, they possess a belief on some level that if they are involved in an accident, the helmet will keep them from harm. I know years ago when I laid my Kawasaki GPZ750 down at 55 MPH, I ended up with road rash. I was riding stupidly… I did have the feeling that the helmet would save the day. Yeah, I walked away from the accident. Not because the helmet saved my life… for a reason much simpler than that: my head never hit anything during the accident. This conveniently brings me to my next point. For years we keep hearing that the majority of fatal motorcycle accidents involve bikers not wearing helmets. They never seem to break down the type of fatality that caused the tragedy, just that it involved a motorcycle, involved a death, and did not involve a motorcycle helmet. Therefore, a majority of the pro-helmet people have been hanging their hats on these statistics. However, that ends now. In late 2008, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) reported that “58% of motorcyclists and their passengers killed WERE wearing helmets”. Specifically, the DHSMV further stated that of all the 2007 motorcycle-involved accidents in Florida, 57.39% of them resulted in an incapacitating injury in which the 3 riders/”drivers” were wearing a helmet. It appears the helmet wearers are now a MINORITY. Statistics no longer support the anti-helmet choice advocate’s claims. I don’t wish to preach doom and gloom about the helmet/no-helmet issue. Safety aside, one thing does remain true: we live and ride in the United States of America. As legal adults, as the individuals riding the motorcycles, and as some may say; the ones putting ourselves at risk, we should have the right to make our own choice if we wish to wear a helmet or not. Helmet laws are simply another way for the government to tell grown men and women what to do. Oh yeah, in case you’re asked; this is not an issue tied to the seatbelt laws; those in cars don’t have to pay extra for insurance to ride without a seatbelt. FL law requires us to hold a Personal Insurance Policy to ride without helmets. Helmet use is a choice.

Let those who ride decide.

Until next month, keep the chrome side up,

Dave “Lockdown” Rich State PR/Communications Trustee, ABATE of Florida, Inc. statepr-comm@abateflorida.com www.abateflorida.com 1

Hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday. As many of you are reading this, Gary and I are in Hawaii on our honeymoon. We were married on Christmas day and it was wonderful. We are renting a Harley while in Hawaii and hope to get some awesome pictures to share in next month’s issue. We did find some time to ride this past month. We attended Jim Harley Davidson’s Toy run. “WOW” I have never been in such a well organized ride as this and what fun it was waving to the bystanders and singing Christmas carols as we rode through the streets of St Pete. We also made it out to Peggy’s Corral to see The Pitbull Toddlers perform they are the members of ‘The Cowhead Show” on 102.5 The Bone. It was a bit chilly for an outside event but

fun none the less. Check out the cruising calendar for some upcoming events and until next month be safe and have fun!

SMOKE BREAK, JAIL BREAK These guys really must have a nicotine problem .... Adam Garland and Michael Queener escaped from a minimum-security prison located in Clifton, Tennessee for one reason ... to steal cigarettes and other tobacco products. Not only was the movie THOUGHT U MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW Disney’s first hand-drawn animated film in years, it earned a Golden Globe nomination for Here are a few stats that I saw while reading the latest “Best Animated Film”. More than that, it was Playboy Magazine .... On average, US households watch great to see a full length cartoon featuring an 8 hours of television per day, twice as much as second all black cast. The movie is excellent and all place Greece .... There are 27 counties in the State of Texas children (no matter what nationality or race) without a registered doctor .... 95% of all Americans have will love it! sex before marriage .... In 2009, the US Air Force trained more joystick pilots to fly unmanned aircraft than fighter and bomber pilots that fly conventional airplanes .... Wild woman Amy Winehouse recently paid $58,000 to increase her 32B’s to 32D’s !!!

WOW!!

Speaking of movies, have you seen James Cameron’s “Avatar”? Wow .... I couldn’t tell the computer generated figures from real actors. I think the movie will win numerous awards in the sci-fi fantasy field as the 3D graphics are astounding! The 55-year-old Cameron has directed some of the most exciting movies ever made including: Aliens, Terminator 2: Judgement Day and that little movie about a big boat .... Titantic.

WHAT’S IN A NAME? I guess if you want to be a superstar you need to have a cool name! A few that catch my eye include: Flo-Rida, Beyonce’, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Ludacris, Pink, Ne-Yo and Eminem. But no group has names better than the Black Eyes Peas .... Taboo, apl.de.ap, will.i.am and the beautiful Fergie! Oh yeah, they also turn out some kick-ass music!

DANGER! DANGER! Research done by the University of Utah found that motorists who text while they are driving are 40% more likely to have a traffic accident than those who don’t. Come on people, it’s just common sense not to text and drive!

Missy's Misdemeanors by Missy Pregeant

I hope everyone enjoyed their Holiday Season and I wish everyone the BEST New Year Ever – Sorry I missed everyone in December. It was one of those really hectic, stressed out, etc. etc. etc. months. I wanted to let everyone know that I appreciate each of you for taking time out of your lives and giving of your hearts with all the toy runs and charity events that were attended in December. It is wonderful to see what a great and giving community we are all a part of. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for touching the lives of the many people that really needed it this year! And a special thanks to the Rough Riders in Tampa!!! Just some upcoming events that I wanted to touch on for January! The Downtown Ft. Myers Bike Night is back on 1/9/10 at 6pm – expect MORE than before at this event. Also on 1/9/10 is the HD Ft. Myers 2 Day West Coast Ride that includes an overnight in St. Pete. And on 1/23/10 Bike Jamboree 2010 NAPLES - Gator Alley ABATE and Harley Davidson of Naples – enjoy lots of games, food and activities. And for all you "slow race" champions, the gauntlet has been thrown down once again to see who will walk away the all time Slow Race Champion for 2010. For more information call Rick at 239825-2490. I had the pleasure of stopping by O’Brien’s NEW Bike Night in Brandon last Tuesday – I hear that the number of bikes is increasing with each week! Can you believe it? Here we are, 2010! Man, I just got used to writing 2009 on everything. I hope you all had a great year. I know if you made it through last year, things are going to be looking up this year. I got a feeling the good Lords got plans for me this year, and I hope my health will keep up and let me build up the Daytona side of Full Throttle Magazine. But to do this I need your help. You can do this by letting Full Throttle know what’s going on. I say it all the time, if I don’t know something’s going on, I can’t cover it, so let me know. You can call or e-mail 386-299-9364 or peewee@floridafullthrottle.com I want to here from you. Till Next Time RIDE SOBER AND SAFE
