Hello everybody and welcome to August ... yes it will be hot, muggy, rainy and uncomfortable! We can all live with these little problems .... heck we knew August would be this way when we moved to the Sunshine State! As long as Mother Nature keeps those damn hurricanes away from us we will be ok! Have you caught FullThrottleVision? This is a live, hour-long internet web show that is on every Thursday evening from 7pm till 8pm. Hosted by Tony Cianci, The Scottster and myself, FullThrottleVision is an hour of fun, laughs and information pertaining to the motorcycle world in Central Florida. Mr. 500 (Bob DeMoss) does a great segment and we are always doing our best to have a female or two on the show - after all the four of us need all the eye candy we can get! We have been "on the road" doing webcasts and last month did programs at Hot Ticket (Clearwater), The Yard (St.Pete) and Mike’s Smokehouse (Brandon). Of course, we are always looking for sponsors and show locations. If you are interested, give Tony a call at 813-8141424. You can always go to our website (www.FloridaFullThrottle.com) and watch old episodes. We had a great time last month doing bike shows in Dunedin at Blue Jay Stadium and in Clearwater at Bright House Field. It was great seeing the motorcycles riding on the field and there’s nothing more exciting than a good, old fashion, minor league baseball game! We also had a very successful Christmas In July Toy Run and I want to thank everybody who participated as well as our sponsor Fran Haasch, St. Joes Hospital, Tampa Harley-Davidson and The Brick House Tavern. Have a great month of August and remember that it will be sunny, hot and you want to stay hydrated. Be prepared for sudden rainstorms and please don’t drink and ride! Birthday wishes go out to Brett Man and Norma!

August is one of the HOTTEST months of the year and in the state of Florida and in the motorcycle community, there usually isn’t a lot going on. Of course there is always Quaker Steak and Lube and Biff Burgers on Wednesday nights and the occasional bike night and poker run here and there but with the heat and the rain, it’s hard to do anything! So if you are out there riding this time of the year make sure you have your rain gear handy and drink plenty of water while you are riding. Full Throttle would like to welcome some new advertisers to the magazine this month also. First I would like to say hello to Ken and the whole crew at FUN BIKE CENTER. Here’s a secret….that is where the Full Throttle 15th Anniversary Party is going to be in November! I would also like to welcome The Beer Shed, The Rock Legends Cruise “this cruise looks like a ton of fun”, Thunder in The Streets and Healing Heroes. Thanks to all of our new advertisers for choosing Full Throttle as your media outlet to the motorcycle community! Full Throttle Magazine and Tampa, Brandon and Gulf Coast Harley-Davidson have joined forces again to bring you the best 9-11 Mega Poker Run for the 10th anniversary of remembering those who lost their lives 10 years ago. There will be live music, cold beer, great food, silent auction and a remembrance service. All the info is on the page to the right! Please come out and show your support! For more info go to www.tampaharley.com Full Throttle is looking for some new sales reps! We have a wonderful staff now and our sales team is doing great! We are looking for one or two new sales people to hit the streets and sell ads! There is a possibility for a salary position to someone who can come in and kick butt right from the get go! So if you are in the motorcycle community and feel that you can sell advertising on the biggest and best motorcycle magazine in the state of Florida then we are looking for you! You start at 15% commission and after 3 months of solid sales you move up to 20%. We are looking for a full time sales person who wants to make a lot of great friends, help charities, promote events and make a few bucks along the way! If you are interested please call me at 727-919-1743 and send me a resume to tonyc@floridafullthrottle.com Last, but not least, is of course FULL THROTTLEVISION. This is our new TV WEBSHOW that airs every Thursday night on our website LIVE from 7pm till 8pm. We talk about all the things happening in the motorcycle community as well as current events and interview interesting people. Location shoots are available for $300 per show. That means we will come out to your place and do our live show at your location. We will promote it on Facebook, in the magazine and on our e-mail blasts! We will interview the owner of the place, the bartenders or anyone that you want us to talk to! It’s a ton of fun and you get your name out there in a whole new media!!! Remember to ride safe and be careful when you are out there. Don’t drink and ride and I’ll see you soon!

Camp Sturgis (Fort Meade) day’s amazing information highway. No I wanted was originally established in August of 1876 as to see what interesting history lay in and around a temporary “peacekeeping" post for the US 7th. this motorcycle Mecca in the west. The town of Calvary shortly after the Battle of Little Big Horn Sturgis South Dakota was named by a military (235 miles away). The Fort has endured for over

a century and transformed itself to survive time and time again and is now used as a Veterans Hospital and training center for the South Dakota National Guard. Originally called Camp Sturgis it was named in honor of Lieutenant J.G. "Jack" Sturgis who fought and fell with General Custer on the hills overlooking the Little Big Horn in 1876. The town has kept the name that his father gave it. The Secretary of War designated the now permanent post "Fort Meade" in honor of George G. Meade of Civil War fame. Its first Commander would be Col. Samuel D. Sturgis, of the 7th. Calvary whos son Jack had fallen in Custers last stand and whos names are honored by Sturgis S.D. In a very interesting note my friends of history; it was here that the Star Spangled Banner first became the official music for the Military Retreat Ceremony (When the flag is lowered at days end on a base), long before it became the National Anthem. You see in 1892 the post Commander Col. Caleb H. Carlton, of the 8th. Calvary began the custom of playing the Star Spangled Banner at Military Ceremonies and requested that all people rise and pay it proper respect, long before our nation adopted it; it was playing through the land Sturgis, S.D. would occupy. It was also here to Fort Meade a mile outside what we now know as Sturgis that one of the most famous horses of all history would be brought to. On June 25th, 1876 captain Myles Keogh of the 7th. Calvary was riding this 15 hand mixed mustang/morgan, a horse he had named "Comanche". And on that fateful day in June, at Little Big Horn, General Custers entire detachment would be killed by a combined force of the Lakota’s, Cheyenne’s and Arapaho Indians, and it would be two days later that Comanche would be found badly wounded hiding in a ravine. He was 21 years old at this time and would have seven severe bullet and arrow wounds, four in his back, one through the hoof and one on either hind leg. He would be nursed back to health and in 1879 Comanchee was brought

to Fort Meade, home of the 7th Cavalry where he was treated like a prince before being moved to Fort Riley, Kansas in 1888 when the 7th Calvary moved there. What I found amazing though was this following order, General order number 7, issued by Col. Samuel D. Sturgis, it is as follows (1) The horse known as "Comanche" being the only representative of the bloody tragedy of the Little Big Horn, June 25th. 1876, his kind treatment and comfort shall be a matter of special pride and solicitude on the part of every member of the 7th. Calvary to the end that his life be preserved to the utmost limit. Wounded and scarred as he is his very existence speaks in terms more eloquent than words, of the desperate struggle against overwhelming numbers of the hopeless conflict and the heroic manner in which all went down on that fatal day. (2) The Commanding officer of company one will see that a special and comfortable stable is fitted up for him and he will not be ridden by any person whatsoever, under any circumstances, nor will he be put to any kind of work. (3) Hereafter, upon all occasions of ceremony of mounted regimental formations, saddled, bridled and draped in mourning and led by a Mounted Trooper of company one, will be paraded with the regiment. This ordered by Command of Col. Sturgis, 7th. Calvary. One interesting thing about Comanche other then his fondness for beer that he picked up at Ft Meade, was that in 1890 at the time of his death he would be one of only two horses in US history to be buried with full military honors. Sitting 30 miles or so below Sturgis is another more modern military installation called Ellsworth Air Force Base, home of the 28th. Bomb Wing and one of the two bases in the USA that have B-1B Lancers (35 total). The 28th's mission is to deliver decisive combat power for a global response. The Air Force Base was built in 1941 and known as Rapid City Army Base. It was a training field for the B-17 bomber units going to Europe fighting for Americas freedom in WW II. It would be July 15th. 1945 that the installation would be placed on standby status. The base went

through many changes and upgrades including a few name changes. But in 1950 the base was adapted to use the new Convair B-36 "Peacemaker" Strategic Nuclear Bomber, but then in 1953 they would lose an entire crew of 23 men returning from a training mission in Europe and the base would be renamed in honor of Brig. General Richard E. Ellsworth Commander of the 28th. Strategic Reconnaissance Wing who lost his life in this peacetime B-36 crash in Newfoundland. In 1958 all the bases B-36 Bombers would be replaced by the new B-52 Stratofortress which to this day is still a formidable bomb delivery vehicle but dated by its years. Ellsworth would also become a huge player in the Cold War and in America’s missile and nuclear defense triad. Originally 50 Nike/Ajax surface to air missiles and their underground silos were built to defend America from incoming Soviet nukes and to protect our long range bombers from a nuclear first strike, but it would be in 1960 that Ellsworth would enter the space age and the missile silos would become "offensive" in their delivery. The Titan ICBM's would arrive, and then my 102 loyal readers came the Minutemen missiles and Ellsworth would become known as the "Show Place of the Strategic Air Command” and this would continue for decades as the nuclear race would escalate. But the 80's and 90's brought huge changes to Ellsworth as the aging B-52 fleet would be phased out and the B-1 Bomber would blast onto the scene and become Americas go to bomber for SAC. In the late 80's the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Unions demise would lead to the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty and between 1992 and 1994 all ICBM's would be pulled from their silos around Ellsworth AFB. It's an interesting note my patriotic pals that one silo (designated L5) that held a LGM 30B Minuteman II missile and its 1.2 megaton nuclear warhead was located 3.5 miles from Sturgis's Main Street . Two silo sites have been turned over to the National Park Service to be used as a point of national interest display It would be June 1999 that B-1B's from Ellsworth would fly over 100 combat missions to Kosovo dropping over 1260

tons of ordinance. And after Sept. 11th. 2001 the Ellsworth group would be deployed to Diego Garcia, and while stationed there they dropped 39 percent of the total tonnage of bombs in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Well my fans of the great west this short story would not be complete if I did not include one amazing site very near this little town of history. Laying 50 miles below Sturgis, S.D. is a site that has been parodied, used in movies and been the subject of much controversy and I am speaking of Mount Rushmore, so named for a prominent New York lawyer who in 1885 was in the Blackhills of S.D. to check the titles for a mining company client. One day he was returning to the mine company’s headquarters with four of its executives, as they neared the large granite mountains soon to bear his name, Rushmore asked one of the passengers what its name was? And the man replied jestingly "Never had any, but it has now, we'll call the thing Rushmore" and that my wonderful readers is part of history The year would be 1923 when South Dakota historian Doane Robinson would think up

Mount Rushmore to promote tourism in the Black Hills Region of S.D. A year later Robinson convinced sculptor Gutzon Borglum to travel there to make certain it could be done. Borglum would abandon the Confederate Memorial at Stone Mountain, Georgia to begin work on the four presidents. The 60 foot heads of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln would be carved into the Granite Mountain so chosen because of its rock quality composed of smooth fine grained granite which only erodes one inch per 10,000 years, and the fact that it faced the Southeast and enjoyed maximum sun exposure both to aid in construction and for it to be seen by all near and far. Between Oct. 4th. 1927 and Oct. 31st 1941 Borglum and more than 400 workers sculpted the massive granite presidential heads. Situated on the highest peak in the region at 5,725 feet the looming memorial park covers 1,278 acres. Thomas Jefferson was originally to appear to Washington’s right but the rock became unstable and was dynamited clear and was then sculpted to Washington’s left. On July 4th. 1934 Washington’s face was dedicated, then Jefferson’s in 1936 and Abe Lincolns on Sept. 17 1937. In the same year a Congressional bill was introduced to add Susan B. Anthony as a fifth sculpting but hit a funding snag. In 1939 the face of Theodore Roosevelt was dedicated. Gutzon Borglum died from an embolism in March

of 1941, His son Lincoln Borglum finished up the project. It had been intended that the Mount Rushmore presidents would be carved head to waist but lack of funding also ended that idea. The entire project cost $989,992.00 and for such a massive undertaking of stone chiseling, working at heights and with over 450,000 tons of rock dynamited away, no workers died during the carving. Controversy swirled around the heads of our four presidents from the beginning. Native Americans looked poorly on it as the four presidents depicted had all been a big part in annexing Indian Land (including Mount Rushmore). Borglum himself is at the forefront of much controversy as he was an active member of the Ku Klux Klan. Over two million visitors a year, many from the Sturgis bike rally have made Doane Robinson’s idea the number one tourist attraction in South Dakota. So there you have it my iron horse riding buddies, an amazing amount of our great nations history lays within hours of what has become the world’s most foremost gathering of people and motorcycles. Have I been? No, but I assure you I will be there one day and it wont have to coincide with that epic first week in the "Dog Days" of August. I’m pretty sure I won’t be bored.........and there should be some very interesting "Ghosts" to have a cocktail with in this uber cool little-big town in the west. Robert "Stumblin In" De Moss

Hi there! I sat down with Dana from Gotta Havit to ask her some questions. I asked how she got started in the insurance biz and how long she had been in the fi eld? She started in the insurance fi eld 21 years ago working for someone else. About 7 ½ years ago, Dana decided to open her own insurance agency. It was a little stressful trying to come up with a good name at fi rst. Insurance is something very important to have; some times you don’t want it, but you gotta have it. That’s how she came up with the name of the agency, Gotta Havit Auto Insurance, Inc. An independent insurance agency and they have over 25 companies they write with, including Progressive, Dairyland, GMAC, Titan and many more. They gather as much information as they can from the clients so they can get the best coverage at an aff ordable price. Dana's husband Mark, a friend Michelle and Dana’s son George work there also. Dana off ers Auto, Commercial Auto, Boat, Jet Ski, General Liability, Renters, Homeowner and of course Motorcycle insurance. Gotta Havit has been advertising with Full Throttle since she opened and has enjoyed working with them on a business and personal level. They say that the experience with everyone at Full Throttle has been wonderful for their advertising needs. Gotta Havit especially enjoyed being part of the sponsorship for Tony’s fi rst trip to Sturgis, even though Dana’s husband was very jealous that he didn’t get to go. Dana tries to go to as many events as possible to help people in our community. If you see her out, please go up and say hello, she won’t bore you with insurance talk, but she will answer any questions you may have. From her years of being in the biker community, she has noticed that many people do not carry insurance on one of the most important things in their life, their ride. Dana thinks this is because people know they are not required to carry insurance in Florida or they think they can’t aff ord it. She is here to tell you that it can be very aff ordable; all it takes is a phone call. To call her at Gotta Havit 727-446-7735 …Be Safe, Be Covered! Tell next time Live life to the fullest and party you’re a** off ...Dew

It’s that time again so many people told me to remind them about it next year.. Well it’s that time the 500 Mile Yard Sale starts August 4th in Alabama. Gadson, Alabama to Hudson, Michigan. It’s supposed to last about 4 days, but some people don’t know when to quit. You can go on the computer and look it up. It will give you the routes and other info. Some people plan their vacation around it. You meet so many people and see so many things as well as the great countryside, starting with Lookout Mountain. If you start at the beginning from the south but you can jump in anywhere along the way but go to the computer and get the routes!! I told you last month about getting old and weak.. Let me tell you about thinking I was getting old timers maybe, I forget how to spell it, but I figured out maybe I don’t because I know everything I own I just don’t know where it is. I usually remember or I get a friend to help me find it.. THANKS GARY!!

Does anyone remember this guy on the left with Paul and me? His name was Daddy Rat the Original Daddy Rat from the Rat’s Hole Bike Shows. I was going through some old pictures and found this one. Who know I may have one of you in my collection? See you soon Kim

Full Throttle 52 The Christmas In July Toy Run turned out great this year! Believe it or not, this was the first time in 3 years that is did not rain on us! Everyone showed up at Tampa Harley and our kickstands went up at 12noon. We rolled into St. Joseph's Children's Hospital and there were kids waiting for us outside. We were able to hand the kids toys and see the smiles on their faces. In December this will be a police escorted ride and we are going to try and fill the Full Throttle Firetruck up with toys! Look for the firetruck at Quaker Steak and Lube on Wednesday nights in November!! The run ended at Brickhouse Tavern with lots of great give-a-ways and good food and drinks! Look for a future bike night at their location.

The Dunedin BlueJays put on one great bike day! They had one of the biggest cash prize bike shows that has happend in quite a long time! All the best bikes in the Tampa Bay Area showed up and they were all amazing. Thanks to everyone who showed up. It is summer time so it did rain towards the end of the game and there was a slight delay, but they still finished the game and had a great fireworks display. Congrats to Janette and her whole staff on puting on a wonderful evening at the ballpark for the bikers! By the way...Editor Tony C. threw out the first pitch and it was a perfect strike! Take that Paul and Donny!

Uncle Mike's Smokehouse has a bike night the third Thursday of every month and it is rockin'! Last month Full Throttle Magazine and Full ThrottleVision were there and we had a blast! There was a Daisy Duke contest that was one of the best I have ever seen. In fact they are doing it again for the month of August and let me tell you, you won't want to miss it! There were about 10 girls and every one was beautiful. Full ThrottleVision hosted our show from the Smokehouse and the food was very good! Uncle Mike and Auntie Simone are two awesomly amazing people and they know how to make you feel welcomed. They are also talking about doing a truck night and on Friday Nights they have line dancing outside under the stars...how cool is that!? If you get a chance be sure to make it out to Uncle Mike's Smokehouse Bike Night this month on August 18th, you'll be happy you did!

The Clearwater Threshers had an amazing bike night on July 23rd! There were over 200 bikes that showed up and almost every one went onto the field for the National Anthem. K&K Customs supplied the trophies and Full Throttle helped pick the bikes of the night. Of course it rained half way through the game but it was a quick shower and they finished up the game with fireworks! Congrats Dan and Cory on another great bike night with the Threshers!

Full ThrottleVision is taking off and we have a great viewership growing! You can see the show every Thursday on our website as we are a LIVE streaming WEBSHOW from 7pm till 8pm every Thursday night! In fact, we will come out and shoot our show LIVE at your location for a small fee and food for the staff! It's a lot of fun and we draw a pretty good crowd! We will interview you and your waitstaff or bartenders. If you are interested in having us do our show at your location call 813-814-1424 for more info.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Killer of Four Motorcyclists Going to Prison… For Life and Then Some Sumter County, FL, July 7, 2011 – On March 13, 2010 Paul Sermons got drunk, got into his truck, and decided to drive down County Road 476 in Sumter County, FL. The traffic in front of him going slower than Sermons wanted, he began passing other vehicles. The two motorcycles coming in the other direction had no chance. Sermons hit both bikes ejecting all four riders; with one rider being launched into the windshield of the truck Sermons was passing. All the motorcyclists were killed. On June 10, 2011, Sermons was found guilty of four counts of DUI Manslaughter and one count of driving on a suspended driver’s license. A few weeks later on July 6, 2011, the Honorable Judge Hallman had Sermons in his courtroom for the last time. By the time this final hearing was over, it was decided; Paul Sermons would never again walk as a free man. Not only did Judge Hallman sentence Sermons to life in prison, he sentenced Sermons to one life sentence for each of the four people he killed as well as pulling his driver’s license for life and many fines and fees. ABATE of Florida members from many chapters were at every hearing throughout this case. Our members were there to offer support to the victims’ families from the beginning to the end of the hearings and trial. The Court recognized our presence from our members being in the courtroom to asking potential jurors if they were ABATE members. Although justice was finally served in this case, all must understand that in the end, there were no winners. ---ABATE of Florida, Inc. is Florida’s largest Motorcyclists’ Rights Organization, and one of the top four largest nationwide. ABATE of Florida members come from all walks of life and include many elected officials. Our missions are to educate the public about motorcycle awareness and continuing to fight in Tallahassee for the rights of every motorcyclist and the public in general. To aid in these ends, we have an exclusive lobbyist and have founded the Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Program, both with the intentions to help make the roads safer for everyone.
