Happy Birthday to us!!! Yes, this month marks Full Throttle’s 13th year in business and we are throwing a monster party on Sunday 11/22 at The Round Up in Oldsmar. We will fill the entire parking lot with motorcycles and vendors and live music will be provided by the Dive Bar Stalkers. The Round Up will be open along with their full liquor bar and all NFL games will be available on the premises as well. We will also have food & drink vendors, our annual slow race championships and a smokin’ bikini contest! Vendor space is still available but, like the past three years, will be at a premium .... please call the office for prices and availability. Biketoberfest was busier than I expected .... and that’s a good thing! The streets, bars, restaurants and bike shops all were packed with people and hopefully that’s a sign that things are getting better. Let’s hope so because this economy has really sucked the past 12 months! I’m looking forward to Palm Harbor Bike Fest that takes place the Saturday before our Anniversary Party. If Mother Nature cooperates, this will be one fantastic weekend to be a biker! I’m also looking forward to all the toy runs and food drives that start taking place in November. It always amazes me how much our biking community does year in and year out. We are always there to help the needy and sick. If there is a reason to raise money or help children .... you can ALWAYS count on our community to be there. Maybe that’s one of the reason’s I am so proud to be the publisher of Full Throttle Magazine. Our readers are the best ... thank you all !!! I want to wish a happy birthday to my grandson Jakey and to Lexi Swetay. I am also remembering my mother who passed away one year ago this month (11/13/08). I think of Momma every day and I miss her dearly, as does my entire family. RIP Mom .... we love you! Please have a great November, don’t drink ad ride and take it easy at the dinner table on Thanksgiving!

Thank God that November is finally here! We can look forward to less rain, cooler conditions (at least we hope so) and great riding weather. November also brings on the start of the Holiday Season which always includes some great toy runs, food drives and other charity rides usually geared towards the children or veterans. Try and make your way to as many of these events as possible and that your pocket book allows. Everyone is struggling, but kids seem to feel it the worse this time of the season! There are some great events coming up in November! First I would like to talk about the Leigh Nolan Memorial Poker Run on November 1st. We helped start this event many years ago and we are very much involved in it again this year! Second, is the Kahuna’s Fall Bike Bash, see more info on this on page 40. Third is the Palm Harbor Bike Fest. This is always a huge one day event in Downtown Palm Harbor right near the Fran Haasch Offices! Last and certainly not least is, of course, our LUCKY 13 ANNIVERSARY PARTY. This will be at the Round-Up on the Corner of Hillsborough Ave. and Race Track Road in Oldsmar, FL. We will have so much going on like our annual slow race, custom t-shirts, bikini contest, vendors, drinks, food, the Dive Bar Stalkers and much more! We have some great raffle prizes lined up this year also! We have helmets, TV’s, gift certificates, Harley-Davidson items and other great prizes! All you have to do is buy some raffle tickets of which a portion of the proceeds are going to the St. Joeseph’s Children’s Hospital. Just to remind you, our Full Throttle Teddy Bear run is going to be December 19th, the day before the Annual Suncoast Brotherhood Toy Run in Dunedin. See you there! I would like to take this time to wish my nephew, Jakey, a happy birthday and we are looking forward to meeting Isabelle this month also! Good luck Chris and Paulie, I hope everything goes well and we will be down there the minute you tell us to come running! Remember, don't drink and ride and I will see you soon!

The new BBQ Bar is now open behind Brandon Harley-Davidson! Last month at the Harley Bike Night (on the second Thursday of every month) we had the chance to sit down and eat some great BBQ. They brought out everything for us to try from the ribs to the okra and even something I have never had before, but Rev. Jim and I can’t wait to get back for, the fried green beans. Yes, fried green beans, that means it tastes good and is good for you….well, not really but at least you think you are eating something healthy. The BBQ Bar opened on September 17th and I would suggest everyone should come out and enjoy their great food. Besides the meats, I had a great fried potato salad, baked beans and some excellent french fries! Another great service is the unique 6 varieties of sauces they offer. If you like a mustard sauce, they have it, if you like a spicy BBQ sauce, they got it! The six varieties of BBQ sauces they offer are: Softail Pineapple BBQ, Street Bob’s Spicy Ginger, Dyna’s South Carolina Sauce, Jimmy’s Fat Boy BBQ, St. Louis Crossbones and Night Rod’s Kansas City Sauce. Thanks for the great food BBQ Bar! We are looking forward to the second Thursday of every month at Brandon Harley-Davidson for a great meal before an awesome bike night!

TOO MANY BATTERIES

A neighbor of mine John came over to my “bike barn” the other day, contained in the barn of history is part of my motorcycle collection arranged in neat rows, looking like fighter planes ready for a dawn reconnaissance , nose out waiting on orders. The usual comment I get from first time visitors is “wow you have a lot of bikes!”. But John being a bit of a self described inventor, R/C hobbyist and shade tree mechanic said “wow you have a lot of batteries !”. And upon further review of the barn it was an accurate statement. To one side was rows of bikes, but to the other was 2 long shelfs filled with motorcycle batteries. Long ones, short ones, tall ones, sealed ones, some 6 volt, some 12 volt, new and old, a truly amazing collection of lead and acid that made much more of an impact on my industrial minded friend than did the decades of old BMW’s, Moto Guzzis, Gileras did. As we spoke of how vintage motorcycles are hard on batteries due to the vibration and heat, he noticed my six battery tenders with their different lights showing green, red or flashing orange, with leads snaking around seats and over handlebars, looking like the ICU at Tampa General, the industrial exhaust fan keeping sulphuric fumes at bay .You know I have gained a huge respect for acid over the years, many painted surfaces and my favorite t-shirts and jeans have been lost to this sulphuric demon. The battery as we now know it was invented in 1800 by Italian physicist Alessandro Volta and in the beginning were called Voltaic piles . The term “battery” was coined by Benjamin Franklin for an arrangement of multiple Leyden jars (an early type of capacitor ) after a battery of cannon. A battery is truly a collection of 2 cells, but in modern usage “battery” often refers to a single electric cell (think “AA” or “C”). I mentioned to John that of the two bikes I consider to be the most reliable, nether requires one of Mr. Voltas inventions to make it go. My 1966 Gilera uses a kickstart and magneto, but it makes nighttime use rather dicey as the lights increase and decrease with RPMs, while my 1946 Moto Guzzi has the same set up but also a 6 volt generator and battery for its lighting circuit, but I do belive 3 candles and a bic lighter may be better for a ride through a dark forest. It was at that point I told a story to John. A couple winters ago we had a record low , one of those 40 degree days in warm and sunny Florida that test the health of any battery.I had left my vehicle at the boat and got dropped off at the bike barn, well my mothers car there wouldn’t start, no problem pull the old battery out and take it on a bike up to Advance Auto and repeat. After putting on the appropriate nanook of the North outfit to venture out onto the “icy” florida roads, I went to the barn. The BMW R100S will carry a battery, press the easy button and click.....click.....click so much for sealed gel technology. Well the Moto Guzzi Eldorado will work, a few slow turns followed by clicks so I hook it up to the battery tender. Well off to the old Suzuki GS, turn the key nothing, no lights, camera or action. So I pull off the side cover and wonder why the manufacturer would ever bury a battery so deep in the heart of a bike, no way to clip onto it or probe it with a voltmeter. Well that lead me to my 1946 Moto Guzzi ,roll it down the ramp, bungee cord the car battery on the rack, turn the fuel tap on and prime the carb 10 times, find top dead center and with one kick it lights off in 500cc’s of single cylinder joy!Off I ride the 5 miles down to Advance Auto. It must have been a site, me and that 63 year old bike looking like a steam powered locomotive on that cold Feb. morning. It reminded me of when someone asked me what bike would I bet $1000.00 on that it would start? I answered “the one that doesn’t need a battery”.Its amazing the only bike I have that starts and runs at any time is a kickstarter with 63 year old electrics and a 6 volt battery. While brakes and fuel delivery systems, tire technology and lighting have made great leaps in the history of motorcy-

cling, the motorcycle battery has not. In its most modern form it is a throwback to an earlier era the one piece of motorcycling that has not shown much improvement still leaving us in odd predicaments and cold dark places. So much for new and improved technology, didn’t we walk on the moon and we now talk on cell phones the size of credit cards? Battery failure is the third certainty after death and taxes. And by the way my friends the term “Volt” of which we use in daily life and motorcycling is named in honor of our Italian friend who invented the Voltaic Pile, which is probably our first chemical battery, thanks Mr. Volta. I told John while dis-connecting a couple battery tenders from my bikes that were next up for “flight ops” that I am a bit over my self imposed limit of 24 bikes and was thinking of getting rid of a couple, make a little more elbow room in the “bike barn”. Maybe I said “I have too many bikes?” Nonsense said my disbelieving neighbor, he said “you just have too many batteries!”.Made sense to me, you can’t have too many bikes. Guess i have some more bikes to look for as long as their kickstart magneto only machines. Robert “you cant have too many” De Moss MR 400 welcomes comments, ideas and pictures. WHATS NEW WITH MR. 400!

On Oct. 14th. I won my 400th Trophy at Big Shots. A few highlights right before this milestone were a “few” Best of Shows at Jims Harley.A Sat. night Bike of the night at Biffs (I had 9 Wed. nights!) And winning a Best of Show(#401) from Jim and Roberto at Kahunas, who 400 Trophies ago gave me # 1, And Best of Shows at Largo Rocks,The American Victory ship and Oldsmar Days it has been so very cool ! Thanks to all of you who like my old relics!

MR 400 ALL CLASSIC TEAM PAUL “RINGO STARR” ALLEN

Well what can you say? This cool cat rivals PT Barnum, as he truly is a showman that puts on “The Greatest Show On Earth” he basically puts on a 3 ring circus for different audiences at multiple locations. Between Nightmoves, Full Throttle and Tampa Bay Downs, you have shows that involve motorcycles and danger, dancers and bikinis and horses and gambling ! not to mention he plays the drums like a Starr (Ringo is my favorite Beatle) The time and effort it takes for Paul and the entire staff to put on an event is like watching the circus come to town, both amazing and exhausting. The advertising, the setup, the event, the breakdown and when PT Barnum was in his heyday, you couldn’t wait for the circus to come to town. Thanks for putting on “The Greatest Shows in Florida”. Your a great ringmaster and as PT said”’theres a silver lining in every crowd” Heres to you Paul for being # 11 on Mr. 400’s All Classic Team

"The entire Full Throttle Staff and local motorcycle community wanted to let Vince "Batman" Campbell know ..... There are still some Trophies to be won! See you at the shows bro!"

Hi All … I’m just getting back and getting my you know what together and taking some time to relax from October. Boy we were busy. I ran in to some friends at Biketoberfest in Daytona, Curl and Randy … (This was Randy’s 1st time to Daytona and she said when she goes she will ride her own and she did that this year.) It was nice to see you both.

Ok, if you need your bike worked on in the Lutz area, I have found a bike shop you need to check out. It’s Reinhardt’s Motorcycles LLC. Reinhardt is a 3rd generation auto and motorcycle mechanic. He grew up in a small town in Germany, his grandfather and father owned their own shops. Reinhardt has worked at Cahill Yamaha for 2 yrs. and went to Fletcher’s Harley-Davidson for 14yrs. He has been working at Gulf Coast Harley-Davidson for the last 2 ½ yr. Reinhardt has opened his own shop at 1635 N. Dale Mabry Hwy Suite 1 Lutz 813-244-9858 or www. reinhardtsmotorcycles.com His shop is an old school shop, the kind where the customer knows the person working on your bike cause it’s the owner. Well gear up for turkey day and get ready for the Christmas runs, rest now cuz we are going to be busy. Happy Thanksgiving to your family!

Till next month…….DEW

Penny and her crew did a great job, like they always do raising money for a very worthy cause! I wanted to fit as many pictures in here I could. Congrats on a great run, and yes, that is a guy dressed like a woman nurse! Only Penny could convince someone to do that!

Every event seems to promise the same thing – fantastic attendance, loads of unique activities and plenty of vendors. These days it’s seldom that events keep their promises. On October 3rd I headed to the Historic district of Sebring, Fl. to attend the Run to the Heartland event. The previous two days I had clocked about 800-miles delivering about 25,000 issues of Full Throttle Magazine. After all that driving I was tired and, to be honest, had some reservations about attending this event, afraid that it would be like all the other bike shows, over promised and under delivered but to my surprise this event was as laid back as it gets and in one word, AWESOME! I don’t mean awesome because it had a Daytona Bike Week attendance or appeal but awesome in the sense of organization and the hands on feel for bikers and what they want in an event. There were bikes in the

streets, plenty of convient parking for bikes, vendors down side streets, a bike show around the park circle and live music in Central Park. With all this going on, the day flew by! Hats off to the city, law enforcement and organizers of this event. Everyone involved should be very proud. This event is already on my 2010 list of “must attent”events. It goes to show that some bike events do keep their promise and offer up the good party that you’re looking for. See ya next year at downtown Sebring’s, Run to the Heartland 2010. The crowd was HUGE!!!

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then we will need a lot of pictures to describe the Southside Choppers Appreciation Party that was held on Oct 25th. I would sum it up like this, events like this are what started the motorcycle lifestyle. They sustain it and continue to drive it. This event IS how is should be done. Great job Mike and crew, we all look foward to your next huge party. Please make sure to go online to www.floridafullthrottle.com and view more pictures from this great event.

If you love great BBQ, Harley-Davidson's and a nice ride you should visit Old Town Harley's bike night on the second Thursday of every month. This bike night has it all, Radical Randy as the MC, live bands, great food, beer, great parking and lots of vendors. The BBQ Bar has also re-opened so now you can get there early, sit down relax and enjoy all the great food they have to offer. Come out and hang out with Rev. Jim and Tony at the Full Throttle tent on Nov. 12th and mention this for your FREE gift while supplies last!

Spooks and Scoots was a lot of fun for everyone like always. Georgia Boy met a new friend. She was a vendor there. I got a picture of them and will tell you more next month. She was selling do-rags. This was the 29th year and next year will be the big 3-0. I saw the vice president of Florida ABATE. No rain so Doc Fish was like a fish out of water, maybe next year. I’m sorry if you missed this great event it’s one big biker reunion every year. No cops telling you not to walk around with a drink in your hand! The girls can go topless after 10:00 pm if they like, playground for the children, lots of vendors, they even had an ATM this year. The campgrounds are beautiful with tree shaded lights and water in many of them. They also have a primitive area for camping. I don’t think they spray for mosquitoes in that area; it’s why they call it primitive. Maybe I will see you next year for the big 3-0. I guess the cities, states, counties need money because I have seen more radar speed traps this year than ever in my life plus the prices for tags, transfers, etc have doubled. Fines for driving offenses also if they need money we have to pay. We need to look at our elected officials. They don’t care if we have the money. If we don’t pay, we lose our licenses. My personal opinion it is not fair. Someone said “change is coming” I guess this is part of it. See you soon Amber

Full Throttle Magazine It is not only Wayne’s World it is your world too

I was raised that it was taboo to openly discuss or express personal views and/or options on religion and/or politics. If you dare to venture there, you will have a pissing match with some total stranger telling you how much better their religion and political party is then yours. The damedeist thing is that you won’t remember the topic of conversation you started with. Take for instance “ If I may be so blunt “, the political / bureaucratic hypocrisy going on behind closed doors nationally and internationally that we know nothing about until it’s to late, people, we as in We The People have to wake up and smell the coffee. There are so many amendments to our constitution; it is not the same piece of paper we die for everyday defending. The sad thing about it is that we only have ourselves to blame. After all, it is you and I who voted these outstanding law-biding citizens to office. My two favorite stirrers are Rush Limbaugh and Lyndon Larouche. Here is a piece of news that may have slipped by you. On September 3, 2009 (LPAC) Lyndon LaRouche today forcefully warned that any effort to cover up the crimes committed by the Federal Reserve Bank, during the Bush and Obama administrations, would be “tantamount to treason.” LaRouche was responding to reports from reliable sources close to the Obama White House, that the top

leadership of the Democratic Party is “desperate” to block any disclosures of the Fed’s role in the preferential bailout of certain key American banks, during the period since the August 2007 blowout of the financial system. As reported in the Washington Post on Aug. 28, 2009, as the result of the actions of the Fed and the U.S. Treasury Department, under the Bush and Obama presidencies, four big U.S. banks—JP Morgan Chase, Citibank, Bank of America and Wells Fargo—along with Goldman Sachs, have consolidated almost total control over the entire U.S. banking system, managing one-third of all deposits, one-half of all mortgages, and two-thirds of all credit card debt. In Senate testimony in July, the Special Inspector General of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), Neil Barofsky, had warned that the total cost of the bailout, to date, was a staggering $23.7 trillion—counting funds already spent and funds already allocated. Yet, a record number of regional banks have been allowed to go bankrupt, and the most recent report by the Federal Depositors Insurance Corporation (FDIC) cited more than 400 additional banks on the verge of collapse. Wall Street-allied Democrats are reportedly frantic to sabotage Congressional passage of H.R. 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009, which would mandate a Government Accountability Office (GAO) audit of the Fed’s lending practices, its relations with foreign central banks and other foreign financial institutions. H.R. 1207, introduced by Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.), has been co-sponsored by more than 300 members of the House of Representatives, thus assuring its passage, and mandating that it be brought to a floor vote. A parallel Senate bill, the Federal

Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009, has been introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and has 23 co-sponsors so far. There is also panic at the White House, the Fed and on Wall Street, over the Aug. 24, 2009 ruling by Chief Judge Loretta Preska, of the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York, ordering the Federal Reserve to disclose documentation of its expanded lending and other interventions in 2007 and 2008, particularly around the sale of Bear Stearns to JP Morgan Chase. The order came in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, brought by Bloomberg LP against the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, after two Bloomberg News reporters were denied access to Fed documents on the governmentsubsidized takeover. LaRouche minced no words in warning about the consequences of a successful cover-up, including the sabotage of the Fed audit bills now before Congress. “The issue is: The system will be blown out if this information is concealed. You cannot bury this under a rug. The American people have both the right, and the urgent need to know what has been done with their tax dollars. Only by unburying the evidence can you save the U.S.A.” LaRouche continued, “You cannot conceal the truth. Whatever the price, the full disclosure must be brought to the public. The American people must know the full extent of the folly of the Bush and Obama presidencies. If they kill the Paul and Sanders bills behind closed doors, such suppression of the information will be tantamount to treason.”

Well, The Fucati project continues and is becoming very exciting. While Full Throttle was in Daytona for Biketoberfest we stopped by Wyotech to check on the progress of the engine that we purchased from eBay and take a few pictures. The original engine was in bad shape so we decided to replace it. Now the machine is in the hands of some of the best mechanics and students anyone could ask for! These students are very excited for this project! We are contemplating a lot of modifications to this machine to really make it a “wow when it is finally unveiled (hopefully at the Florida Motorcycle Expo and Bike Builders Invitational, January 29-31, 2010). Reverand Jim, Bob Demoss and Tony Cianci have had many meeting on this bike and some things seem simpler to do than others. We would like to take this opportunity to thank anyone and everyone who has helped in this project already and has signed on to be a part of this build. Our Plan is to build this unique machine with the help of Full Throttle advertisers, friends and anyone else who would like to lend a hand on making this a great show piece and a fun machine to ride. This bike will not just a show piece either. We plan on riding this to many events and bike nights so everyone can enjoy it. If you have any interest in helping in any way shape or form, feel free to contact Full Throttle Magazine at 813-814-1424 or Rev. Jim at 727-504-3138. By Paul Allen

ring a bell?DIfoesit does J. & P. Cycles (www.jpcycles.com) (and it should) then you should

at least know of the man behind it all. And as the saying goes: “behind every great man there is always a great woman”, in John’s case, her name is Jill. These two icons in the industry have built a business from scratch to a $75 million multinational. A true success story I assure you. It has been said that they “grew a cow palace into the world’s largest aftermarket motorcycle retailer”. Contrary to some common beliefs out there, absolutely nothing has come easily for John and Jill. John went eight years with no salary, depending on Jill’s paycheck. They almost went bankrupt in 1985. They started from scratch, built a little momentum, lost everything in a fire as I recall. That did not stop them. These two exemplify what a successful marriage and business should at least look like. Results? A successful business yes, but most importantly, proud parents of their son Zach who was born in 1984 as well as grand parents. If you speak to anyone in the industry who has established good credibility with a solid reputation and you mention the name “John Parham”, compliments with the highest regards will be shared about him as a person and as a businessman. People speak of John with deep convictions, affection and respect. Now don’t get me wrong, like all of us John will admit not being perfect and I am certain some individuals will agree with that but I would be extremely surprised to find several of them. A close friend of mine recently shared the story about some dude. This dude once paid a substantial amount of money for a shiny bike and a substantial amount of money to be able to park at a popular regular local bike event right where everyone could see him and his bike. Now if this dude was a builder then I could see the point of doing this in order to get some business. Or perhaps to give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe this dude wanted to make sure his bike was safe and secure at all times and he was willing to pay? From what I hear, this gentleman thought he was deserving of all the attention whenever he would grace people with his presence. If I knew this “gentleman” closely when he did that and expected this kind of attention, I swear I would’ve had a red carpet tailor made with the inscription “I am great and I have money” to put on his stupid parking spot! By contrast, John is nothing at all remotely close to being like our “red carpet friend”. When I met with John I met what appeared to be a true gentle man, calm, composed, confident, focused, approachable yet private and humble. I could go on but if I do, people will start to think I am expected to only write nice things or that I may be getting perks or goodies from JP Cycles. John was born in 1954 in a small town of 4,500 people in western Iowa, USA. John says he pretty much had a good childhood. Dad was a teacher and then went on to working for the power company. Mom had a preschool business and passed about four years ago. Both parents were

keeping all the kids disciplined and well behaved. John strongly believes parents these days would be well advised to do the same. I don’t think John’s parents relied on the government to tell them what was good or bad on how to raise their kids. (Speaking of government, John does not qualify the current government’s decisions and directions as “good” that is for sure.) John and Jill continued the tradition of keeping a close watch on each other including Zach of course. “Zach turned out to be a good grown-up young man” John proudly says. Being involved, be it in sports or at school or simply being there whenever possible made the difference. John was an average student and was offered an athletic football scholarship in several Iowa schools. John turned the opportunities down. He was bored in school. As far as John remembers, he took a sales business course and really enjoyed it. I guess he preferred a hands-on approach rather than getting involved in a quagmire of academic studies. Zach however has a couple of degrees and is well equipped to take the helm when the time comes. Both Jill as well as John graduated in the early 70s. John says they got married shortly after that on his 20th birthday so that he would not forget their anniversary (chuckles). The story has it that John was from a small town called Anamosa and Jill was from another small town by the name of Monticello. Both towns were about 10 miles apart. Naturally, there was a rivalry between the boys of each town. People from one town rarely dated those from the other. This did not stop John from pursuing Jill a single bit. He was known to be cocky and quite confident. John even learned the consequences of pursuing Jill aggressively when he found himself on the receiving end of a punch in the face coming from one of the boys from Monticello. Eventually John did what he had to do to earn the respect of

Full Throttle 60 the Monticello boys and see Jill freely. Today if you bring up Jill in a conversation with John, John will light up and smile. John says that all in all Jill let him pursue his dreams and supported him in that. John got hooked on riding when he borrowed one of his friends’ Honda 305. Back then this was a pretty big bike. He currently rides a 2008 Ultra Harley-Davidson but started riding with a Honda 65cc, then he got a Kawasaki 250cc, a customized 1971 BSA 650cc and, a Honda 750cc. Jill rides too but she prefers being a passenger. They both rode to Biketoberfest 2008 in the occasion of the grand opening of JP Cycles store in Daytona. John’s favorite spots to ride are mainly out West like Colorado, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon etc. As a father, John has fond memories of him and Zach riding to Sturgis. In fact, I believe Zach and John do a significant adventure ride once a year. Every father and son would be well advised to go on an adventure together alone once a year as well. When John rides he says his mind clears up and it becomes much easier for him to think and relax while watching the scenery. If John could, he would make much more time for riding (John, I most respectfully recommend you do that). One of the funniest riding experiences John can remember from his earlier years was back home when he went off-roading with a friend on a Yamaha 250cc. John set himself up to jump over an 8 foot gap of water which he easily did. The thing both he and his friend forgot to check into was what was he going to land on once he would go over that 8 foot gap! When John landed he found himself and the bike almost completely buried in wet mud. The bike was so deep in mud that John had to walk back into town and bring four of his friends to pull it out! As suspected, John is a busy guy. Besides running his business, he is also President of the National Motorcycle Museum (www.nationalmcmuseum.org). John loves old motorcycles. He is evidently passionate about their history and the history of those who rode them.

Speaking of history, John’s desire is to be remembered as the guy behind the company that provides good services, good products and good prices to support the sport of motorcycling. What seems to excite John is to deal with the small guys who come up with products and ideas, help them develop those products and ideas and put them on the market. In other words, if you think you have a great product and you want to put it on the market, JP Cycles can help you reach the mass that few could help you reach. As far as what the future holds for all of us as current or prospect clients of JP Cycles, there are three things John and Jill told me we can look forward to: an expansion of products, aggressive pricing adjustments, and their 31st open house in Iowa which they expect will bring anywhere between 25,000 - 30,000 people as well as 80 vendors. Mark your calendars for a free lunch on JP Cycles both June 25 and June 26 of 2010. Yes, I did say “free lunch on JP Cycles, both days”. John’s most important values in life, not surprisingly, include; honesty, integrity and treating others the way you want to be treated. One of the values John also mentions in the book entitled “Keeping the World on 2 Wheels” by Ed Youngblood is to respect your elders. As a side note, I wonder what would happen if this topic was in school curriculums? A “Respect for Elders” course instead of sexual education which really should be the parents’ job. Or a “Respect for Elders” course instead of teaching young minds to sing praises about politicians who accomplish little or nothing and who by the way keep increasing these same children’s debt load by the trillions. But that is all beside the point you will say? Well yes of course but that is also my column. So what is next for John? John shared with me that every year he makes a point of sitting down and evaluating what he has accomplished, where he is at and what is next. That is professionally as well as personally. With a good chuckle, John says he does that in a “Bucket List” style. John says he would like to do more traveling with his close ones and even do a Safari, ride his bike to Alaska or, simply ride 3000 to 5000 miles with his son with no agenda. All I can say is that Zach has been blessed beyond belief to have a dad who not only desires to do that with him but who can actually do it. Go for it guys! What was essentially supposed to be an interview to scratch the surface of things as best as I could, evolved into a more open conversation. John and I felt comfortable with each other. It felt as if we trusted each other. We spoke about a variety of things including the value of life, death, fears, politics, religion and on and on. I am deeply grateful to be on the receiving end of John’s trust. As sappy as this may sound to many of you who will read this column, when John and I shared about family, values life and death, the discussion between two grown men became so intensely profound....

Full Throttle 61

that my eyes welled up with tears and I believe John’s eyes did too. Life is so extremely precious and fragile. We all like to entertain and distract ourselves but meanwhile the most important people and things in life pass by. By the time somebody realizes that, time becomes extremely valuable and you just can’t get enough of life and those you love. John believes in God. John even says he has been reading the Bible and praying a lot lately. John loves his wife dearly. As mentioned, he says Jill supported his dreams. He feels in marriage that it is important to make time for each other and listen to each other. As a father, John feels it has been fun and it continues to be fun to see his kid grow up, to share in his dreams and be there with him and for him. John was going through a tough time at one point and even went to the extent of selling a prized vintage bike in order to be able to see

his son play football. I asked John if he could change anything about the past what would it be? He replied: “I would have more kids”. If you think carefully about this answer, it will reveal to you what a gift John’s family is to him and what a beautiful experience it continues to be for him. Beyond the family, John wholeheartedly states “We have been privileged to have wonderful people working for us. They work hard and we are grateful.” Since John believes in the God of the Bible I asked him to comment on the following verse from the Gospel of John 3:27; “a man can only receive what Heaven has given to him.” John smiled and replied “I have been blessed in my wife and in my family”. I would add John that your family has been blessed in you and that all of us are benefitting from the ripple effects of these blessings. Keep your rubbers on the road.

What to do after the Accident (cont...) Seek immediate medical attention if you think you have been injured in the slightest way. Many times injuries don’t appear until several hours or several days after the accident. The only way to protect yourself from further damage is to get checked by a medical professional. After being treated, or at the earliest opportunity, be sure to call your motorcycle insurance company and report the accident. If you are unable to call them, have your spouse or friend call on your behalf. Your contract with your insurance company requires that you make a prompt (often within 24 hours) and truthful reporting of the accident. If you fail to do this your insurance company might try to make it difficult for you to recover any benefits you may be entitled to. The at-fault driver’s insurance company will usually try to call you. Do not speak to them and do not allow them to take a recorded statement. Be sure to get legal advice before filing out insurance company documents or giving your own insurance company a statement. The insurance companies will not protect your rights; rather they will look to cut their losses. After all, they are in the business of making money, not to lose money. There are lots of ways to select a doctor. But the bottom line is that you need to be treated by a competent doctor who is genuinely interested in your physical and emotional recovery. One of the best places to start is your doctor that has taken care of you in the past. That doctor is normally very familiar with your health

prior to the accident and it will be easier for him/her to recognize and understand the nature and extent of the injuries you received from the accident. Your local doctor can easily refer you to a specialist for various problems such as bone and nerve issues (orthopedists and neurologists). You can also consider the recommendation of the emergency room physician who was the first to treat you. They often work with many of the specialists and can give you a fair assessment about them. Your friends, neighbors and relatives can also give you excellent opinions about doctors. The main priority after an accident is to protect you and your rights. If you have any questions after an accident, immediately pick up the phone and call an attorney that has experience with motorcycle accidents. Be sure that the attorney will also help you with your property damage claim (damaged bike) at no additional charge. Too often I see insurance companies trying to shortchange bikers on the value of their motorcycle. They just don’t know the value of a Harley today and they don’t deal with them on a regular basis. You deserve the best representation and do not settle for less. Ride Smart, Be Educated, and Trust No One, Jerry T. If you have any question, or would like a certain topic covered, feel free to contact Jerry T. at 727-945-1112 or 1-866-BIKER-FL. Email is theolaw@yahoo.com

Another Grand Opening in the Nature Coast Area

18th Annual Old Time Swap Meet

The old name was Goodfellaz. The new name is “Crazy Lori’s Bar”. Looks like the Goodfellas are gone and the Bad Girls are in. That’s bad in a real good way. All they want to do is have fun, and bikers love to have fun. So make it to 6205 Ridge Road in Port Richey on Nov 14th for the grand opening. They are going to raffle off the owner Lori. Or I should say, a Bikini Bike wash done by Lori. games, music, bikini bike wash, free food and more. The old sign may still be up, so look for the event on the north side of Ridge Road.

If you’re an old biker in the Nature Coast area, you know where the Boat Club is and know about the swap meet. For the rest of you. On Saturday Nov. 28th. the swap meet is an all day event with live music, free hog roast and stuff you will not find in your local Harley dealership. Hope to see you there. Here are some pictures from years past. Till next time Ride Safe and look out for the bad drivers The Big “O”

Bubba, you’re a jerk. Your column about cell phones was so far off it was stupid. Don’t you know anything about technology advancement? I bet you still drink and drive and steal dimes out of pay phones. M.A.D.D. Sue Dear Sue, You can still put dimes in pay phones? Draft beer in plastic cups, Give me a break! I don’t know what you ride, if you wear a helmet., believe in God or like farm animals. Just don’t put good beer in plastic cups. Every time I go to a biker event, even if the place normally serves its beer in ice cold in

a frostee mug, when the bikers show up out comes the plastic, now I’m MADD. I’m sorry I got off track. I was talking about cell phones with MADD Sue and she mentioned beer and my mind is not what it used to be. (the 60’s were great) So back to cell phones. A cop pulls out of Dunkin Donuts on the cell phone with his wife “Yes dear I got a dozen for home. Oh damn I got to hang up I just hit a motorcycle. Boy those things are dangerous!” Next month I’m going to meet up with my experts on how dangerous the roads really are? Good night bag lady where ever you are. Bubba

On Oct. 9-11th I was in New Port Richey For the Cotee River bike Fest. The feeling of change was in the air, as it should be now that you can now enjoy an adult beverage everywhere at the event. Also added this year was Friday night. Yes Sir, this is now a three day event! The Daisy Dukes contest started off Firday evening along with live bands on the two stages. Saturday had plenty of action, including an antique bike show for the first time. This show is one I hope grows each year as I really enjoy the old bikes, and the stories that go along with them and their owners. The Karl Reef also hosted a great Bikini Contest on Sunday afternoon that packed the people in and was not let down for the crowd. Sunday's ride in bike show filled every available space, with the best bikes from all over Florida. A special attaboy goes out to the brothers powdercoating crew. Mike and Steve put up cash to sponsor the event and provided the very popular brothers powdercoating trophies that are only given out at select events, thanks again Mike, Steve and crew! Next year should be even better, with even more changes to come. Full Throttle Magazine and myself would like to thank the City and Dan Sullivan for lettiing us be part of this terrific West Coast Event. Ride safe (Simon: Keep your rubber on the road, not rubbers) Rev. Jim

Whew, October was such a busy month. With the Unity Fest, Ride to the Heartland, Wounded Warriors Pre Biketoberfest, West Coast Bike Rally, Cotee River, Daytona and may other events behind us, we hope everyone had fun, was safe and didn’t eat too much Halloween candy. First I would like to thank everyone who came out to support The Unity Fest. This was the 1st poker run we had organized, the turnout was a little on the low side but we understand there was a lot going on that weekend. Want to congratulate the Winner of the $1000.00 giveaway, Joe Burchell of North Port and what a lucky day for the Burchell family because Joe’s wife Sherry won the Poker Run. We would like to thank Jen Haberchak the winner of the 50/50 raffle for donating her ½ back to the Unity Mission Recovery House. All of the bands that played throughout the day did an outstanding job considering it was hotter than heck out. The following weekend was jammed packed with several festivals, benefits and rallies. Friday night was the kickoff party for the West Coast Bike Rally, on Main Street in Lakewood Ranch. There were over 20,000 people there to see The Greg Billings Band and to eat drink and party at the local bars and restaurants. Saturday we headed up to New Port Richey to check out the Cotee River Fest. It was the 1st time we had attended and had a great time. The American Legion Post had a great turn out for their pre-biketoberfest hog roast which benefited the Wounded Warriors. Sunday we drug ourselves out of bed and headed for the West Coast Bike Rally poker run. It was a beautiful day, but the turn out for this was really poor as well. Not sure if this is a state wide issue or if our area just has too much going on all at the same time. Never the less, we all need to try and get out and support as many of these benefits as possible, there are so many people in our area that are in need, so if

you can please show your support. After an exhausting 1st ½ of the month we decided to take a weekend to catch up around the house. So we painted, and painted and painted the same wall over and over, just couldn’t get the color right (and still haven’t). Football season has been a bit of a surprise, with our Lakewood Ranch HS, Mustangs tied for 1st place in their district after finishing 1-9 last season. GO MUSTANGS! And how about them Gators. I am slowly being transformed into a Gator fan (never in a million years thought this would happen), but with our oldest son Drew, in Gainesville getting ready to transfer to UF its becoming a little easier to cheer them on. The Christmas season is here, and as you’re out doing your holiday shopping please remember to use as many of FULL THROTTLE ADVERTISING partners as possible. They are the reason it is possible for us to publish a free magazine for you! Happy Thanksgiving and as you are celebrating, please remember to keep our troops overseas in your hearts and prayers, because they are truly something to be thankful for! So until next month have fun and be safe. Tracey and Gary

When Beethoven passed away, he was buried in a churchyard. A couple days later, the town drunk was walking through the cemetery and heard some strange noise coming from the area where Beethoven was buried. Terrified, the drunk ran and got the priest to come and listen to it. The priest bent close to the grave and heard some faint, unrecognizable music coming from the grave. Frightened, the priest ran and got the town magistrate. When the magistrate arrived, he bent his ear to the grave, listened for a moment, and said, “Ah, yes, that’s Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, being played backwards.” He listened a while longer, and said, “There’s the Eighth Symphony, and it’s backwards, too. Most puzzling.” So the magistrate kept listening; “There’s the Seventh... the Sixth... the Fifth...” Suddenly the realization of what was happening dawned on the magistrate; he stood up and announced to the crowd that had gathered in the cemetery, “My fellow citizens, there’s nothing to worry about. It’s just Beethoven decomposing.” *************************************** PONDERISMS 1. If a pig loses it’s voice is it disgruntled? 2. Do employees of Lipton’s Tea get coffee breaks? 3. Or I’ll kick the crap out of all of you!’ St. Peter was impressed, ‘When did this happen?’ The cowboy says, ‘Just a couple of minutes ago’

********************************************* While shopping in a food store, two nuns happened to pass by the beer, wine, and liquor section. One asked the other if she would like a beer. The second nun answered that, indeed, it would be very nice to have one,but that she would feel uncomfortable about purchasing it. The first nun replied that she would handle that without a problem. She picked up a six-pack and took it to the cashier. The cashier had a surprised look, so the nun said, ‘This is for washing our hair.’ Without blinking an eye, the cashier reached under the counter and put a package of pretzel sticks in the bag with the beer. ‘The curlers are on me.’ ********************************************* REAL BUSINESS TYPO”S: Restaurant Menu in Lakeland – “Mom’s Home made Meat Load just 8.95. can I get a flopachino? Stars gone bad .... Hollywood is full of crazy people and crazy stories and here are just a few: a judge in Beverly Hills gave Lindsay Lohan an extra year probation added to her three-year sentence after she failed to attend alcohol education classes. After two DUI cases she should know better .... Nicolas Cage is suing his manager for $20-million. He is in big financial trouble and owes Uncle Sam $6.2-million in back taxes. How does this happen to a guy who made $40-million last year? .... If we hadn’t heard enough about Jon & Kate Gosselin, TLC is suing Jon for breach of You can never believe a boxer, football player or contract. Come on people nobody cares about these music entertainer when they say they have decided to two losers .... Last but not least, Singer Carly Simon retire. The latest proof of that fact is country music filed a suit against Starbucks over poor sales of her 2008 album megastar Garth Brooks who has decided to end his “This Kind of Love” which was nearly decade-long retirement and start doing shows signed to the coffee chain’s label. in Las Vegas at the Wynn Encore Resort. The first Hey Carly maybe the album just shows are scheduled for December 11-13 and Janusucked! ary 1-3. Shows will then continue for 15 weeks in 2010. Tickets will start at $125 each should sell out fast!

That’s it..I’m Retiring!!

what isle is the beer in?

Equality..for most? Nikole Churchill is a tall, thin, beautiful woman with long dark hair. Last month she was named homecoming queen at Hampton University and that fact managed to piss off many students .... you see Churchill is white and Hampton is a historically black school. I know when a black girl wins a beauty pageant or is named homecoming queen at predominately white school it’s no big deal shouldn’t that be the case at Hampton as well? Equality needs to be equal for all parties and that is the only way our country can move beyond judging people solely by skin color. Churchill posted an open, on-line letter to President Obama asking him to make an appearance at Hampton to help soothe things over .... no news if he accepted the invitation!

Skyway...Bye Way Since the Sunshine Skyway opened in 1987 there have been at least 130 people who have died after plunging into Tampa Bay. The 192-foot-high structure connects Pinellas County with Manatee County and is know as a symbol of our area. The original bridge was built in 1954 and was replaced in 1980 after a phosphate freighter rammed into the southbound span. The new bridge took seven years to complete at a cost of $240-million. The span ranks fourth nationwide for suicides behind the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco who ranks first.

Wisconsin black bears must be really smart! Last month a 125-pound black bear wandered into a grocery store and headed right towards the beer cooler. The bear walked through the automatic doors and calmly climbed twelve feet onto a shelf in the beer cooler and sat there for about an hour as employees evacuated store customers. Finally, wildlife officials tranquilized the animal and took it back into the woods. Store officials said the bear didn’t bother any customers, never touch any beer and was content just to relax inside the cooler!

ink me up! I’m all for a nice tattoo but enough is enough! Two men in California are accused of tattooing a gang sign on a 7-year-old boy. A 27-year-old father held his son down while his 21-year-old friend tattooed the quarter-sized insignia on the boy’s hip. Both men are members of the Fresno Bulldogs, a street gang in Fresno. If convicted on charges of aggravated mayhem, the men could face life in prison.

Missy's Misdemeanors By Missy Prégeant

In today’s economic climate there was a bit of relief - October 9th Harley Davidson Ft. Myers & Naples got together and held their ONE BUCK Bike Night at their Ft. Myers Store. The beer was only a $1 each and hot dog/chips/water OR soda was available for a donation to Bikers For Babies. A great cause – so please join the March of Dimes 9th Annual Bikers for Babies for 3 Party Packed Days/Oct 30th, 31st AND 11/1 at the Harley Davidson in Ft. Myers. The One Buck Bike Night’s band was awesome playing a variety of music. The music entertained everyone from the two little beauties in matching dresses dancing with their Mama and whooping it up on the dance floor…to the older generation that was also whooping it up on the dance floor. Make sure you come out for the next Bike Night at Harley Davidson Naples on November 13th (FRIDAY, of course). I also got to enjoy Biketoberfest although I only went for one day and night – it was a quick trip, but I was glad I at least got there for Saturday as the event was drawing to a close. Main Street was packed on Saturday night – with LOTS to see. I heard lots of great music (both live and DJ inspired), dancing, drinking and pure craziness – but I have to say that watching the bikes running down the street was my favorite as long as I had a cold beer in hand! And, OMG – a shout out to my friends Vicki and Stevo with Lightning Rod Motorcycles (Tampa Bay Area) for all those wonderful trophies they won at Panama City’s Thunder Beach Motorcycle Rally AND Biketoberfest!!! Congrats you guys – keep it up!!!

A few months ago, I was sitting in my office when my cell rang. It was an associate calling from out of state with a magazine publisher on the line. The publisher asked “Hey, what ever happened to last year’s (2008) Florida HB 137, you know, that Vertical Tag law?” I gave him the Cliff Notes version, and continued with my work. About two weeks ago, I was chatting with Scribe, ABATE of Florida, Inc.’s Legislative Trustee, when he told me a friend of his had just been pulled over in Naples for riding his bike that had its license plate mounted vertically. The biker had to have his bike towed and now has to appear in court. I keep hearing about people calling their friends down here in the Sunshine State asking the same questions; “Can I ride in Florida with my chopper and its vertical tag?, If I can’t then I’m not coming to Bike Week!” With all these stories in mind, lets take a few minutes and break down what the final result is from the 2008-2009 Florida Legislative Session’s HB 137. This bill was introduced by Republican Representative Carlos Lopez-Cantera of Miami during last year’s FL Legislative Session. Representative Lopez-Cantera’s original bill would inflict specific penalties on motorcycle riders, specifically sport bike riders, including a third time offender of reckless driving or speeding in excess of 30 MPH above the posted speed limit, would suspended the rider’s license for TEN YEARS and require the person to FORFEIT THEIR MOTORCYCLE. In addition, this bill ONLY APPLIED TO MOTORCYCLES. I know some don’t like the way bikers look, but this would be legally endorsed discrimination! After looking deeper into the language of this bill, it included many penalties for different things, including having a tag (license plate) affixed to a motorcycle in any manner other than perfectly horizontal. ABATE of Florida Inc’s Delegation gave marching orders to its President & Lobbyist, James “Doc” Reichenbach, who proceeded to fight vigorously against this bill at the State Capitol. Many of ABATE of Florida, Inc’s almost 8,000 members notified their legislators explaining the obvious discrimination against motorcycle riders as well as the blatant potential government intrusion against individuals’ right to own a vehicle. After all was said and done, ABATE of Florida, Inc., although not happy with the bill at all, ended up getting it modified to applying only after 50 MPH over the posted speed limit is reached, no vehicle forfeiture at all, and it now applies to ALL MOTOR VEHICLES. What about the vertical/horizontal tag portion you ask. Well, we were told that it was supposed to have been taken care of. HOWEVER, in January 2009, ABATE of Florida, Inc. began hearing that local Sheriff’s Offices were going to levy a fine for a 2nd offense of the new State Statute 316.2085 (what HB 137 became) of $2,648 for not having a horizontally mounted tag! Over TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS! Not to worry. Doc Reichenbach made some phone calls and the committees that approved the bill admitted that the final language as it applies to motor vehicle tags was not what they intended. In the end, on June 19, 2009, Florida Governor Crist signed the amended bill into law, removing the “horizontal” portion. To sum this all up: YES,

YOU CAN RIDE IN FLORIDA WITH A VERTICAL TAG ONCE AGAIN!

Here’s the exact wording as it is printed in FL law: 316.2085 Section 4. Subsection (3) Riding on motorcycles or mopeds.— The license tag of a motorcycle or moped must be permanently affixed to the vehicle and may not be adjusted or capable of being flipped up. No device for or method of concealing or obscuring the legibility of the license tag of a motorcycle shall be installed or used.

The start of Biketoberfest always starts with The Boggy Creek signup and run. This year the signup at Destination Daytona was bigger than ever. Bikers from all over came, not just to signup but to pay tribute to the man who started it all 15 years ago, the late Bruce Rossmeyer. I know Bruce was looking over the run with that big smile of his and was proud of everyone that helped keep his dream going. With over 1200 riders and over a mile of bikes, it was a site to see. Next year the run will be called the Bruce Rossmeyer Run for children. This year there was over $105,000 dollars raised befor the registration was added to bring the total over $200,000. Man, what a great thing Bruce Rossmeyer started. I hope, for years to come, we can all help to keep his dream going.
