My husband, Baby Ty, and I are all now in Spain, staying in Torre del Mar. So far we have only been here for one week and we are almost over the jet lag. I have just gotten in after Baby Ty met his Aunty Kami for the first time (my sister), plus his cousins, Charli and Leoni – we went for tapas and then to play in the park on the beach. We have more family to meet for the first time soon, plus Ty’s new cousin, Baby Albie, who is three months younger than him. We are looking forward to staying here in Torre for two whole months, returning to the USA in mid January. It’s kind of strange to be back as Spain will always feel like my home from home, having lived here for about ten years. And what an eventful ten years that was! I developed The Sentinella, licensed it to different areas of the country, wrote and published my first three books, started a book editing company, and amidst all that there were lots of other highs and lows on the way. All that feels like a whole lifetime ago! Now my reality is very different, living in Ojai, CA, on the other side of the world, and being a wife to T and a mummy to little Ty. I intuitively feel that one chapter is coming to a close and a whole new chapter is only just beginning…

In that time my life has changed quite dramatically, and all for the better. Seeing and being with Ty every day has infused more Love into my daily existence... and

Unicorn, anyone? For two days last month, Londoners had the opportunity to swap the vagaries of the Tube for a more scenic, magical journey. A free, rainbow-coloured carriage drawn by ‘unicorns’ picked commuters up from various hotspots across London, including Monument, Bank, Southwark and Canary Wharf stations. The ‘Unicabs’ then took people to their offices, and were big enough to seat four colleagues. Inside each was the new ZTE Blade V7 phone, so passengers could snap the sights that they usually missed on the overcrowded underground. The venture was part of a MagicTogether campaign set up by the mobile network Three and ZTE. Michelle Clarke from Shoreditch, London, said: ‘I usually get the tube to work but this morning I hopped on a unicorn parked outside my usual tube station, Bank – it was definitely an experience I won’t forget in a hurry, even if I did get a few strange looks from passers-by!’

Captured A suspected drug dealer from Liverpool has handed himself in, complaining that the ‘pressure of being on the run had got too much for him’ after he was named in a Most Wanted list of on-the-run criminals. Robert Gerrard, 53, met National Crime Agency (NCA) officers at Central Park Police Station in Manchester. He was arrested and charged with conspiracy to import cocaine in a £60 million drugs plot. Gerrard is the third ‘Most Wanted’ fugitive arrested in less than a week after suspected paedophile Matthew Sammon and convicted rapist, Mohammed Alam, 33, were both captured in Spain recently. Gerrard’s mugshot featured in Operation Captura, a campaign to capture Britain’s most wanted criminals – many of them on the Costa Del Sol – and he was highlighted in another campaign, Operation Return in the Netherlands.

Christmas Tree Fun Facts All about Christmas...... The use of evergreen trees to celebrate the winter season occurred before the birth of Christ. The first decorated Christmas tree was in Riga, Latvia in 1510. The first printed reference to Christmas trees appeared in Germany in 1531. Besides evergreens, other types of trees such as cherry and hawthorns were used as Christmas trees in the past. Using small candles to light a Christmas tree dates back to the middle of the 17th century. Thomas Edison's assistant, Edward Johnson, came up with the idea of electric lights for Christmas trees in 1882. Christmas tree lights were first mass-produced in 1890. In 1900, large stores started to erect big illuminated Christmas trees.

The tradition of an official Chicago Christmas tree was initiated in 1913 when one was first lit by Mayor Carter H. Harrison in Grant Park. The official Christmas tree tradition at Rockefeller Center began in 1933. Since 2004 the tree has been topped with a 550-pound Swarovski Crystal star. And since 2007, the tree has been lit with 30,000 energy-efficient LED's which are powered by solar panels. Every year since 1947, the people of Oslo, Norway have given a Christmas tree to the city of Westminster, England. The gift is an expression of good will and gratitude for Britain's help to Norway during World War II. Since 1971, the Province of Nova Scotia has presented the Boston Christmas tree to the people of Boston, in gratitude for the relief supplies received from the citizens of Boston after a ship exploded in 1917 following a collision in the Halifax, Nova Scotia Harbor. Part of the city was leveled, killing and injuring thousands.

De Cotta - Legal Consultations Legal Consultations At De Cotta Law we believe that the preliminary legal consultation is the most important moment in building the framework for success with your legal matter. This is when the initial understanding of your need, dispute or conflict must be fully understood to assure you of the best possible advice. Documentation is often the key to a proper and valuable consultation, and in some cases we prefer to study the documents after this initial consultation and provide a reasoned opinion in writing after the meeting. For example, you may have a dispute with a neighbour about the boundaries of your land. In some of these cases the catastral or rateable area from the Catastro might be substantially different from the surface area of the plot as described in your deeds. Therefore, the lawyer will need to review both documents and any local planning rules to see if the situation can be resolved. In monetary and debt claims we also need to review the paperwork. Unfortunately, in some cases pursing a debt can be costly and not effective if the debtor has no funds or assets in Spain. We act for a number of English law firms and Trustees in bankruptcy and always advise commencing a matter with a property and company search, as it is not advisable to commence a debt action against a “man of straw. The same will apply to your small business debt or a personal debt where the person or company who owes the money has no capacity to repay.

A comprehensive consultation is essential if you are to be successful and often a mediated settlement can be reached without the need to take a matter to court. For example, a neighbour dispute can be settled with the parties agreeing to voluntarily sign new deeds that accurately reflect their ownership. Also a debtor can agree staged payments, perhaps with a charge against property that prevents costly litigation for both parties. Consultations can be in person or in writing. For more information, contact us on info@decottalaw.net or telephone 952 527014 to arrange a meeting at any one of our offices in Mijas-Costa, Nerja or CoĂn.

Top Ten Christmas Songs It’s still all about Christmas..... 10. ‘Merry Christmas Baby’ – Ike and Tina Turner Tina howls and growls her way through Christmas, R&B style, and tops it all off with a spirited freestyle nod to ‘Jingle Bells’. 9. ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ – Band Aid Bob Geldof and Midge Ure’s 1984 reaction to the Ethiopian famine, with contributions from Phil Collins, Sting, Macca and Bono, was a publicity machine of epic proportions. It worked: ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ stayed at the top spot for five weeks, and was the biggest UK chart success of the decade. 8. ‘Christmas Rappin'’ – Kurtis Blow At the beginning of this somewhat unlikely 1979 Christmas smash, you can hear the moment at which hip hop arrived. Interrupting a starchy recital of ’A Visit from St Nicholas’, Kurtis Blow launches into his own inner city yarn about Santa showing up to a Harlem Christmas party, producing a Yuletide classic – and rap’s first major label hit. 7. ‘Christmas Wrapping’ – The Waitresses As we get older Christmas begins to feel like little more than an inconvenience, but this bouncy new wave gem reminds us to resist the impulse to scream ‘bah, humbug’ and simply go with it. If this song’s stomping disco rhythm section doesn’t pep you up, nothing will. 6. ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)’ – John Lennon & Yoko Ono Euphoric and scathing, as hopeful as it is resigned, John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s definitive festive peace-on-earth song has transcended its original anti-Vietnam War purpose to become a Christmas stalwart. 5. ‘White Christmas’ – Bing Crosby It can be easy to forget the true meaning of Christmas. But, when you’re nogged out of your mind this year, try and picture a stable, with animals, Santa, Cliff Richard. Look, here’s Jimmy Stewart from ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’, Twiggy from the M&S adverts and, er… Mr Blobby. The truth is the power of Christmas nostalgia itself is greater than the real memories. Hence, all of us can hark back with Bing on this Irving Berlinpenned ’40s number to a white Christmas just like the ones we used to know, even if our true past is full of crushing disappointments. 4. ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’ – Darlene Love This song is cursed. It entered the world in 1963 (as part of ‘A Christmas Gift for You’) the same day that President Kennedy left it, and was withdrawn soon after. Years later, its producer Phil Spector was convicted of murder. Still feeling festive?

3. ‘Fairytale of New York’ – The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl When was the last time you properly listened to Kirsty MacColl and The Pogues’ epic Big Apple-set fable? Shut your eyes and give it a go, and if you aren’t a nervous wreck by the fade-out, your heart (like that jumper from your nan) is two sizes too small. ‘Fairytale…’ is a perfect four-minute narrative of hope, despair and heartbreak – and, despite the profanity, it ends with love. 2. ‘Last Christmas’ – Wham! There are so many winning elements to Wham!’s 1984 smash that its status as a solid gold Christmas staple. What sets ‘Last Christmas’ apart is George Michael’s heart-on-sleeve delivery: his genuine heartbreak horror (‘My God! I thought you were someone to rely on’) and wistful, sexy whispers. 1. ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ – Mariah Carey It’s not the best-selling Christmas anthem (that’s Bing at number five) it didn’t even make it to Number One in the UK, but Mariah tops our list of the greatest ever festive songs for one good reason – it’s catchier than a Christmas cold. Originally released in 1994.

Interesting Facts Kuwait gained independence from Great Britain in 1961. Two years later British military intervention forced Iraq to abandon its territorial claims and recognize Kuwait's independence. Kuwait was the first Arab country in the Gulf to establish an elected parliament. Kuwait is the only country in the world with no natural water supply from lakes or reservoirs, but it did open its first grass golf course in 2005. In 2006, Kuwait became the first country to introduce the sport of camel racing, with remote controlled robot jockeys. There are no words in the national anthem of Kuwait, it consists solely of melody. There are 150 males for every 100 females in the country. Kuwait is one of the hottest countries in the world and rainfall averages just 2 days a year.

The History Of Christmas Crackers Christmas crackers are a traditional Christmas favorite in the UK. They were first made in about 1845-1850 by a London sweet maker called Tom Smith. He had seen the French 'bon bon' sweets (almonds wrapped in pretty paper). He came back to London and tried selling sweets like that in England and also included a small motto or riddle in with the sweet. But they didn't sell well.

The company built up a big range of 'themed' crackers. There were ones for bachelors and spinsters, where the gifts were things like false teeth and wedding rings! There were also crackers for Suffragettes (women who campaigned to get women the vote), war heroes and even Charlie Chaplain! Crackers were also made for special occasions like Coronations. The British Royal Family still has special crackers made for them today!

However, one night, while he was sitting in front of his log fire, he became very interested by the sparks and cracks coming from the fire. Suddenly, he thought what a fun idea it would be, if his sweets and toys could be opened with a crack when their fancy wrappers were pulled in half. Crackers were originally called 'cosaques' and were thought to be named after the 'Cossack' soldiers who had a reputation for riding on their horses and firing guns into the air!

Very expensive crackers were made such as the 'Millionaire's Crackers' which contained a solid silver box with a piece of gold and silver jewerly inside it!

When Tom died, his expanding cracker business was taken over by his three sons, Tom, Walter and Henry. Walter introduced the hats into crackers and he also travelled around the world looking for new ideas for gifts to put in the crackers.

The world's longest Christmas cracker measured 63.1m (207ft) long and 4m (13ft) in diameter and was made by the parents of children at Ley Hill School and Pre-School, Chesham, Buckinghamshire, UK on 20 December 2001. Now that would be one big bang! The biggest Christmas cracker pull was done by 1,478 people in Tochigi, Japan, on 18 October 2009. Now that would be a lot of bangs!

Only Women Will Understand This If my body was a car, I would be trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps, dents, scratches & my headlights are out of focus. My gearbox is seizing up & it takes me hours to reach maximum speed. I overheat for no reason and every time I sneeze, cough or laugh either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!

Linea Directa OEM PARTS EXCLUSIVELY USED IN NATIONAL REPAIR NETWORK OEM PARTS OEM parts are Original Equipment Manufactured parts as made by your car’s manufacturer. They are brand new, usually more expensive and sometimes take longer to order. But they are a no brainer. Body shops love them because they fit perfectly and install easy. LÍNEA DIRECTA ONLY USES OEM PARTS Línea Directa is the only insurance company that guarantees the use of OEM parts in their repairer network. Thanks to an exclusive purchasing and distribution agreement with the major manufacturers, when you repair your vehicle through its exclusive network of body shops and repairers, they guarantee the use of OEM parts. After vehicle repairs are complete, they send a list of the OEM parts used for you to keep in your log book. It’s one less thing to worry about. DO ALL INSURANCE COMPANIES USE OEM PARTS? At the time of publishing this article, no other insurance company in Spain guarantees the exclusive use of OEM parts in their repairer network. Some insurance companies rely on after market parts and used parts to keep the repair costs to a minimum, only paying for

OEM parts if no other parts are available. After-market parts are parts made by a company other than your vehicle’s manufacturer. They are new and the spec should be very close to the original specs. However, some minor fitting adjustments maybe required by the body shop. Used parts come from the scrap yard. Cars involved in accidents, engine trouble or age, means that scrapped cars will have some working parts, which can be resold. The used parts are usually OEM parts. NATIONAL NETWORK OF BODY SHOP REPAIRERS Using the Línea Directa network to repair your car means more than just OEM parts. The whole repair service is handled from start to finish. Your vehicle is collected at the agreed time and place. The repairs are carried out swiftly, efficiently and according to original manufacturer specs. You can request a replacement vehicle for the duration of the repair. They will keep you updated on progress and after completion; your vehicle will be delivered at the agreed time and place. We hope the information provided in this article is of interest. If you would like to contact Línea Directa please call 902 123 165 More information on Línea Directa online at www.lineadirecta.com

Tommy Cooper Random Jokes :) Went to the paper shop - it had blown away. I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day but I couldn't find any. I bought some HP sauce the other day. It's costing me 6p a month for the next 2 years. A woman told her doctor, 'I've got a bad back. 'The doctor said, 'It's old age.' The woman said, 'I want a second opinion. 'The doctor says, 'OK. you're ugly as well.' A man walked into the doctor's, The doctor said 'I haven't seen you in a long time' The man replied, 'I know I've been ill'. A man walked into the doctor's, he said 'I've hurt my arm in several places'. The doctor said 'well don't go there any more'. So I knocked on the door at this bed & breakfast and a lady stuck her head out of the window and said: 'What do you want', I said, 'I want to stay here'. She said, 'Well stay there' and shut the window.

Anthony (Sorry I just had to use this one) Sexy, cute and all round smooth talker. Anthony has been mentioned as one hunk of a Sex God. Due to this increasingly used term for anyone being good in bed, it has made its self known within the streets! Apple The alternative to the orange! Alt-tabbin' An act of quickly switching the current application to something work-appropriate when the boss walks in. Amazonukkah When Christmas really lasts 8 days because the presents take longer to deliver from Amazon.com than anticipated by the purchaser. This is often caused by the reckless use of Super Saver Shipping on items which were bought on Christmas Eve. As a result, the presents are received in small amounts each day over an 8 day period, similar to Hanukkah. Airplane mode When someone cuts themselves off from the world by not logging on to Facebook or checking their cell phones. Usually occurs after a breakup or a rough work week. Askhole Someone who asks many stupid, pointless, obnoxious questions. Airport vultures Passengers waiting to board a plane who stalk around near and clog up the boarding gate before a flight, regardless of where their seat is or when boarding actually is.

Auto erect When text is auto-corrected into something sexual. Adulting Adulting (v): to do grown up things and hold responsibilities such as, a 9-5 job, a mortgage, rent, car payment, anything else that makes one think of grown ups. Assclown One, who, through the fault of his parents conception, is a skid mark in society's collective underwear. Affirmative action Getting into a job/college because you are not white. Anchor baby What your girlfriend hopes to achieve by "forgetting" to take her pill, thus guaranteeing that you'll have to spend the rest of your now ruined life with her... or that you'll have to run from the law forever to avoid child support. Awkward arm That arm that has nowhere to go when cuddling, spooning or sleeping next to someone else. It usually leads to wishing arms could be pulled off and then put back on afterwards. Abercrombie and Fitch Overpriced clothing, no different from any other cotton shirt or denim jeans. A company that is trying to sell a pathetic image while brainwashing teens into slapping down 60â‚Ź for a shirt. Arctic fever When you are attracted to white girls only. ATM At the moment. Awkward turtle The animal mascot of the awkward moment. When you're in an awkward moment, place your hands on top of each other, and spin your thumbs forward. Thus creating the creature know as awkward turtle.

al i t n e s s E Oils ergamot B

Relaxant & Sedative: The flavonoids present in Bergamot oil are very good relaxants. They soothe nerves and reduce nervous tension, anxiety, and stress, all of which can help cure or treat ailments associated with stress such as sleeplessness, high blood pressure, insomnia, and depression.

Bergamot is a citrus fruit whose rind is used for extracting the Bergamot Essential Oil. The scientific name of bergamot is Citrus Aurantium var. or Citrus Bergamia. It is a tropical plant, but thrives in Europe as well. Its powerful aroma makes it a popular component in many perfumes, and it is often used as the all-important “top note."

Deodorant: Bergamot's refreshing aroma and disinfectant properties, which inhibit growth of germs causing bodyodor, make it an effective and attractive delivery system as a deodorant.

Antidepressant & Stimulant: The components of Bergamot Oil create a feeling of freshness, joy and energy in cases of sadness and depression by improving the circulation of the blood.

Getting Older? Golden oldies... I was standing at the bar one night minding my own business. This fat ugly chick came up behind me, grabbed my behind and said, “You’re kind’a cute. You gotta phone number?” I said, “Yeah, you gotta pen?” She said, “Yeah, I got a pen”. I said, “You better get back in it before the farmer misses you.” Cost me 6 stitches…but, when you’re over seventy... who cares? ------------------------------------------------------------Cowboy: “Give me 3 packets of condoms, please.” Lady Cashier: “Do you need a paper bag with that, sir?” Cowboy: “Nah… She’s purty good lookin’..” When you’re over seventy... who cares? ------------------------------------------------------------I was talking to a young woman in the bar last night. She said, “If you lost a few pounds, had a shave and got your hair cut, you’d look all right.” I said, “If I did that, I’d be talking to your friends over there instead of you.” Cost me a fat lip, but… When you’re over sev-

enty... who cares? I was telling a woman in the pub about my ability to guess what day a woman was born just by feeling her breasts. “Really” she said, “Go on then… try.” After about thirty seconds of fondling she began to lose patience and said, “Come on, what day was I born?” I said, “Yesterday.” Cost me a kick in the nuts, but… When you’re over seventy... who cares? ------------------------------------------------------------I got caught taking a pee in the swimming pool today. The lifeguard shouted at me so loud, I nearly fell in. Cost me a bloody nose, but…When you’re over seventy... who cares? ------------------------------------------------------------I went to the pub last night and saw a big woman dancing on a table. I said, “Good legs.” The girl giggled and said, “Do you really think so?” I said, “Definitely! Most tables would have collapsed by now.” Cost me 6 more stitches, but… When you’re over seventy... who cares?

The Meaning Of December December is the 12th month of the year and is most famous in the United Kingdom for celebrating Christmas Day on the 25th 1. December is known around the world as a family time of celebration honoring cultures, religions and traditions that have been with humanity for hundreds of years. 2. An almanac prediction states that if snow falls on Christmas Day, Easter will be warm, green and sunny. 3. The name December comes from the Latin decem for “ten”, as it was the 10th month in the Roman Calendar. 4. The term Yuletide comes from a Norse tradition of cutting and burning a tree to bring in the Winter Solstice. This was to last through 12 days – later known as the 12 days of Christmas. 5. December 12th is Poinsettia Day. 6. Saint Nickolas, who would eventually be

called Santa Claus, was originally the patron saint of children, thieves and pawnbrokers! 7. December 28th is considered by some to be the unluckiest day of the year. 8. The first artificial Christmas tree was made in Germany, fashioned out of goose feathers that are dyed green! 9. Spiders and spider webs are considered good luck on Christmas. 10. Common decorations on a Christmas tree each have their specific meanings. Candles – the light of the world, the Star at the top is a reminder of the first Christmas night and Candy canes are to represent the Shepherd’s cane. 11. “Jingle bells” was composed in 1857, and not for Christmas – it was meant to be a Thanksgiving song! 12. An ancient legend states that forest animals can speak in human language on Christmas Eve!

y t i r eb l e C ews N Bigger figure Katie Price has hit back at pregnancy claims, maintaining her rounded stomach – an image captured by a photographer and shared widely on the internet – was due to nothing more than a big meal. The 38-year-old former glamour model and now mother-of-five was holidaying in Barbados with husband number three, Kieran Hayler, when speculation began. She was quick to lash out, filming an Instagram video while lying in bed eating noodles. Katie and Kieran jetted to the Caribbean – where they were married in 2013 – to enjoy some time alone to work on their recent relationship difficulties. Katie’s kids were left at home. Kieran had embarked on affairs with her best friends Jane Pountney and Chrissy Thomas while Katie was pregnant with their second child together - an issue she discusses in her new book, Reborn. No magic family Grieving widow Debbie McGee has claimed Paul Daniels' eldest son threatened to hit her as their bitter family row took a dangerous lurch. Magician's assistant turned radio presenter Debbie has opened up about the Daniels family row which engulfed husband Paul's life in his later years. Speaking on Loose Women, Debbie rubbished claims she was a money-grabbing witch and said: "What actually happened is we closed the shop [where Paul Jr worked] because it’s losing thousands of pounds a year and to keep it open is costing a lot of money.” An emotional Debbie revealed that even though she was advised to pay him two months’ worth of salary, she gave Paul Jr much more than that to honour his nine years spent at the shop. She continued: "His dad said he wouldn't hand him cash because it would all go on beer. Speaking about her relationship with Paul Jr, Debbie admitted that he's always been an issue.

"He's been a problem child for years. He wasn't loving to his own mother and he's not in contact with anyone else in the family.” Cheryl wedding? It looks like Cheryl FernandezVersini could be set for marriage number three. The former X Factor judge only had her divorce from ex-husband Jean-Bernard finalised recently - but plans for her next wedding are apparently well underway. Even though the star was still technically married at the time, it's claimed that 1D singer Liam Payne headed out to buy a ring for Chezza. A source told Now Magazine: "He bought the rings weeks ago. He's old fashioned and wants any baby to have a mum and a dad who are married." While Liam recently returned to Los Angeles to record his debut solo album, the source claims that Cheryl is already in "full bridezilla" mode as she searches for the perfect venue. "She's determined to make a statement this time around and has her heart set on a beach wedding or a private island," said the insider.

Oakland Furniture Now Open In San Pedro Oak Land Furniture have opened In San Pedro near Marbella, next door to the Maxi Dia supermarket, just across the road from the Audi dealership Those of you who may have visited the UK at some stage may have seen the 74 stores or seen the oak furniture advertising on the British TV Channels, for those of you who have not, Oak Land Furniture are the market leaders in real solid oak furniture. The company oak land furniture have now opened in Spain due to the huge demand for their quality solid oak products that are built to last a lifetime. Oak Land Furniture offer over 20 different collections of bedroom, dining and occasional furniture as well a large choice of both leather and fabric sofas too, which are all manufactured with hard wood frames. The reclining sofas are all manufactured with top quality German motors! We called to the store today to interview Managing Director Steve Day who now himself resides in Spain. All the products are produced in 100% solid oak, including all the drawer bases and backs to all the units as well as all the drawers being fully dovetail jointed too. Steve explained that materials such as plywood or veneer are ever used at anytime and only produced from 100% North American white oak. We asked Steve why Spain? Steve informed us that a lot of customers were going into the British stores and asking for delivery to Spain, as the UK Company doesn't deliver to Spain, customers were ordering and shipping themselves to Spain at a heavy cost, so clearly there was a market for 100% solid oak furniture in Spain and also noticable was the lack of quality furniture. It was all decided Spain was a good base to reach both France and Portugal too, to which they also deliver. Oak Land Furniture through it's website (www.oaklandfurniturespain.com) covers the whole of 3 countries with it's delivery network service. Steve took us for a full tour around the store explaining all the different designs from very

traditional country designs to very modern designs and explaining all the different finishes from natural oak, rustic oak through to the lovely white washed french finish as well as the brushed oak finishes. The ranges and finishes are just beautiful and the quality is simply superb, and we were very impressed. On top of this, we discovered the company deliver all over Spain free of charge. Steve explained that he likes to design and build furniture that's basically built to last a lifetime and that comes fully ready assembled too, straight out the box ready for use! We asked Steve how business has been since opening and had he noticed any differences to the UK? Business has been brisk, already two 40 foot containers have been shipped with customers orders and another will be shipping next week from the Swindon warehouse where we keep the majority of furniture in stock. Yes it's been an education opening in Spain due to the relaxed lifestyle, trading patterns are totally different and something I must admit wasn't prepared for, In the UK customers for instance on a Saturday and Sunday pour through the doors, here we are lucky too see anyone on a Saturday before 12, and of course can't open on a Sunday! More business is done through the week and that's morning and late afternoons/evenings. A totally different trading pattern but I'm getting used to it! The store is now fully open 6 days a week and Steve and his Store Manager Nik look forward to seeing you soon. See main advert opposite

Full of vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre and with the potential to lower cholesterol and help manage weight, aubergines are a great choice for salads, stews and beyond. The most popular variety of aubergine looks like a large, pear-shaped egg, hence the American name ‘eggplant.’ The modern aubergine owes its origin to the wild version that is native to South East Asia. Prior to the Middle Ages, it was introduced in Africa before spreading throughout Europe and the Middle East. For centuries aubergines were enjoyed more as a decorative garden plant than as a food due to their bitter taste. They are also a good source of vitamins B1 and B6 and potassium. In addition they are

high in the minerals copper, magnesium and manganese. A 100g serving of raw aubergine provides: 25kcal; 1g protein; 0.2g fat; 6g carbohydrate; 3.4g fibre. Aubergines are rich in antioxidants, specifically nasunin found in aubergine skin which gives it its purple colour. A potent antioxidant and free radical scavenger, nasunin has been found to protect the lipids (fats) in brain cell membranes. Cell membranes are almost entirely composed of lipids and are responsible for protecting the cell and helping it to function. The lipid layer is crucial for letting nutrients in, wastes out and receiving instructions from messenger molecules that tell the cell what to do. The aubergine is not only a potent antioxidant, protecting the fatty acids essential for healthy brain function, but it also helps move excess iron out of the body. Although iron is an essential nutrient, necessary for transporting oxygen in the blood, immune support and collagen synthesis, too much iron is not recommended.

Kestrel Counselling

Taxi

Life at times can be tough and regularly throws us a curve ball. Most times we can handle these blips, with the support of family and friends. However, sometimes these blips in the road seem overwhelming. According to the Mind website 1 in 4 people in the UK will suffer from depression each year.

3 drunks get in a cab. The taxi driver saw them coming so when they got into the taxi, turned his engine on then 10 seconds turned it back off again. He said “We’re here!” The first drunk paid the driver and the 2nd guy said thank you. The third drunk slapped the driver round the face. The driver thought he had been caught out but asked “What was that for?” The drunk replied “Next time go a little slower, you nearly killed us!!”

I personally do not believe that anti-depressants are helpful in the long run. They remove the symptoms but not the underlying causes. For me it is like treating a broken leg with pain killers – it takes away the pain, but does not actually heal the broken bone. In order to recover from depression I believe it is important to examine what is causing the depression. For many people it can be hard to admit that they have a problem. They feel they should ‘get over it’ or ‘pull themselves together’. The reality is that many people need help at some time in their lives, and having the courage to ask for it is a first huge step. This can be even harder for a parent to ask for help on behalf of their children. Nearly 80,000 children in the UK suffer from depression and 1 in 4 young people have had suicidal thoughts. Counsellors offer a safe, confidential space for clients to explore their feelings, helping clients to find ways to make changes that feel comfortable to the client. We do not give advice, as we do not have to live with the consequences of a decision made. It is for the client to decide what is right for them. I have worked with clients of every age group from 5 years old, teenagers and young people and adults, to help them explore their feelings. I work in different ways including play therapy, art therapy etc, working with the client to make changes in their lives. For further information please see main advert opposite

Candlelit Concerts In December Candlelit concerts in Andalusia by one of the UK´s most active and inventive concert players

to his songs, you can also see all the professional 'Squares' of art made by International artists.

English Singer-songwriter Keith James comes to Spain in December to give three intimate acoustic concerts in the pueblos of Canillas de Albaida, Competa and Cajiz. For people who like the music of Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake this is one not to miss and Keith will make his own tribute to Cohen.

Sunday the 18th of December Keith will continue his journey heading to an old mill in the typical Andalusian village of Cajiz near VelezMalaga. The mill was carefully restored in 2015 and is now a perfect place for concerts and exhibitions. The owner, Cornelia Lenzin, a professional pianist from Switzerland, has organised an art exhibition in the mill, which can be enjoyed at the same time.

On December 15th Keith will perform in the Mercado Gallery in Canilllas de Albaida. The Mercado Gallery is a lovely former fish-market which is now used as a studio and gallery by Swedish artist Philippine von Krusenstierna. So while you enjoy Keith´s beautiful music you may also feast your eyes on paintings and sculptures. Saturday 17th of December Keith performs in the Gallery Luz de la Vida in Cómpeta. The evening will start at 6:30pm.Keith loves the acoustics in this Spanish room and you can look forward to hearing how his warm voice brings his tender songs to life. While listening

People Who Come And Go - Paperwork, Paperwork & More Paperwork! There is a word being ‘banded about’, for those looking for properties in the Andalusian countryside, and for those proud owners of houses in the countryside thinking of selling, and it is a word which is causing panic and concern, even fear in the heart of so many, the “DAFO”. The DAFO (Declaración de Asimilado a Fuera de Ordenación) is a type of categorisation of houses on rural land that have not gone through the complete process required by modern planning law, in which a house is built with a licence, and an end of works certificate produced by the architect to confirm completion of the house, and then a Licence of First Occupation from the town hall, at which point you can add your new build house to your land deeds and then register the whole lot on the property registry. But so many houses registered on the Property Registry do not have all those pieces of paper for many reasons. The new planning law passed in 2012 covering the regularisation of country houses, is only now, in true Spanish style, beginning to be implemented for real. Very soon, all houses in the

countryside will need to have a classification. If they are not the gleaming, squeaky clean brand new houses with all their documents in order, let’s call them First Class Citizens, then they need to have another classification, hence the DAFO. This certificate helps the town halls to fully legalise, recognise and classify those properties. To achieve this the owner engages an architect to carry out a study to ensure the house is fully habitable and meet town hall requirements for residential purposes. The amount of money it costs depends on what needs to be done to make the house meet the local law. Lawyers are advising now to make enquiries about meeting local town hall requirements, but ask before requesting a DAFO! And seek legal advice first. It is going to be something that is required more and more in the future, so good to be aware of it if you are thinking of selling and even if you are not, make some enquiries and check out your case with your legal representative or at the town hall. Compassion At Christmas As the Christmas Season descends upon us, don’t forget the homeless animals looking for their forever homes.

water. I soon fell asleep feeling this was the end. Sadly going through life never having a friend.

Axarquia Animal Rescue is run by volunteers and relies on donations to help abandoned animals. Please visit our website axarquiaanimalrescue.com and see our dogs and cats available for adoption and foster, or you can make a donation by clicking the “Donate” button. We would like to share with you a poem written by one our AAR’s volunteers who was moved by the plight of abandoned animals in our region at Christmas time.

When I woke I had thought, ‘She caught me, I’m trapped’, But no fight left in me whilst I lay on her lap. Then she gave me something that I’d never felt. She fed me and hugged me, my heart started to melt.

THE CHRISTMAS TAIL by Helen Davis I was sat in a garden and the weather was cold. People celebrate Christmas, or so I was told. I saw people decorate a big indoor tree, Having fun, seeing family, but they didn’t see me. I sometimes came round here looking for food. My energy low and also my mood. I used to have family, all led by my Mother. First she disappeared, then my sisters and brother.

She was talking to others, telling them of my hurt. They all dressed the same, AAR on their shirts. They made plans for my health, said I was skin and bone, And then they made plans to find me a home! So now here I am and a year has passed by. I am healthy and happy, loving family life. I think back to the day when I wished on the stars, And now enjoying my Christmas thanks to all at AAR!

As I waited for food being thrown out in scraps, I remember wishing, “Just maybe, perhaps, If the humans could see me they might take me on Give me love, give me warmth and a place to belong.” I reminded myself that this was a dream, That would never happen, especially to me. I walked on to find shelter, still no food and walked far, I decided I’d rest under somebody’s car. Christmas Eve morning I woke with a fright, A woman crouched by me, she was holding a light. She was trying to get me from under the car. I tried to run, but I couldn’t run far. I remember falling, I was feeling exhausted. I hadn’t eaten in days and I needed some

There are many ways that you can get involved and help the animals, and we are always open to suggestions and offers of help. When you join the team of AAR supporters you know you will be making a real difference to the lives of animals. You are sure to meet nice people and make new friends too! axarquia-rescue@hotmail.com www.facebook.com/axarquiaanimalrescue Avda. de Andalucia, 147, Torre del Mar

Asbestos - Have You Been In Contact?

In this edition, I thought I would look at a number of questions that often arise and that make people worried about the possibility of making a claim. My message is, if in doubt ask!

breathing difficulties can be attributed to asbestos. This is the point we have to prove in all respiratory disease cases, not just asbestos related but also, for example, silicosis – medical evidence is required to prove a link.

I CANNOT REMEMBER WHERE I WORKED OR THE COMPANY I WORKED FOR NO LONGER EXISTS. It is not unusual for companies that traded in the 1960’s, for example, to have long since stopped trading. With investigations I can trace insurers who provided cover for these companies and they are obliged to deal with the claims. Even if you are hazy about the exact name of a company or your period of employment with them, I can obtain your work history from HM Revenue & Customs and this provides confirmation of who you worked for all those years ago.

Claims for breathing problems caused by exposure to asbestos can be complex but the quicker the claim is started the quicker these issues can be dealt with. So, if you are concerned about your particular situation or have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch. I am happy to talk to you free of charge.

I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH AN ASBESTOS CONDITION BUT I DID NOT WORK WITH ASBESTOS. I always like to meet my clients and it is surprising how often, when you start talking about a persons work history, what they remember. Often, it turns out that even if a person did not actually work with asbestos, they worked alongside people who did and therefore came into contact with dust. Another possibility, and a particularly sad one in my experience, is a wife who comes into contact with asbestos from her husband’s work clothes. A RELATIVE HAS DIED FROM AN ASBESTOS RELATED CONDITION BEFORE MAKING A CLAIM It is not widely known that claims can be made even though the person affected has died (provided the claim is made within 3 years of death). The claim is made on behalf of the persons estate. DIAGNOSING AN ASBESTOS RELATED CONDITION There are a number of conditions that can be caused by exposure to asbestos, including lung cancer. The main issue is whether the

La Vaqueria - Benamargosa The Winter Solstice on the 21st of December is when our pre-Christianity predecessors celebrated and feasted. The Celtic Alban Arthuan Druid festival referred to the legend that King Arthur was born on this date. The wiccans and pagans also called it Yule, derived from the Anglo Saxon Yula which meant wheel of the year, marking the shortest day of the year and also celebrating the rebirth of the Sun. Trees were decorated with planetary signs and gifts for the souls of those departed during that year. When we think of medieval feasts it conjures up visions of great halls with tables pile high with meats and breads because we know more about our British history but Andalucia also had a medieval period... under the reign of the Moors. Whilst various religious sects were, for the most part left to get on with their own customs... some varied from those in the North, predominately the food. Our Northern nobles and aristocracy had access to spices but they were more expensive, having been imported.

Many andaluz dishes contained saffron, cinnamon, cloves, pepper and almonds in abundance in both sweet and savoury dishes. By the later middle ages vinegar was widely used making chutnies and pickles popular. For our Winter Solstice Banquet this year I am combing recipes from our native land and our adoptive land to create a sumptuous feast fit for kings! We have limited places so booking is advisable...dressing up not obligatory but fun... we have live entertainment from the Court Jester & his mummers (Los Nino de Ivan... raising money for the homeless in Velez Malaga) and some court dancing between the courses. If I don't see you then enjoy your own celebrations and we will be back open again on Febuary 1st. See main advert on page 107

Doctor Strange is a 2016 superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero Doctor Strange. It is the story of the world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange whose life changes forever after a horrific car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he is forced to look for healing, and hope, in an unlikely place - a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj. He quickly learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Before long Strange -

armed with newly acquired magical powers is forced to choose whether to return to his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence.Dr Strange’s former lover and co-worker Christine Palmer tries to help him move on, but the arrogant Strange instead wants to heal his injuries. After months trying experimental surgeries on his hands, and using all his resources, Strange seeks out Jonathan Pangborn, a paraplegic who mysteriously was able to walk again. Pangborn directs Strange to the secret compound Kamar-Taj, where he is taken in by another sorcerer under the Ancient One, Karl Mordo. The Ancient One shows Strange her power, revealing the Astral plane and other dimensions such as the Mirror Dimension. Strange begs her to teach him, and she eventually agrees despite his arrogance. There are some great hidden Truths and wisdom in this film. Star Rating: ****/*****

Worth Wines Croatia The continental climate of Croatia is to be found in the southern part of central Europe. Croatia has Zagreb as its Capital. The viticulture of Croatia dates from some 2,500 years ago. These days Croatian wines are receiving the backing that they justly deserve and with longterm investments now being made into their wine industry, these wines, including many award winners, can be located and enjoyed globally, including in the UK. The Bolfan winery utilises biodynamic processes. Having a 100% natural method of vine growing is all part of this process, to produce outstanding wines with natural bouquets

and an intoxicating freshness. The Bolfan range of wines appeals to me, with Rizling, Sauvignon and Pinot being amongst many choices of wonderful productions. A light, fruity bouquet drew me to the Pinot Noir, Bolfan Primus. This full-bodied red wine has softness, too, as a feature, which is, in part, the outcome of barrel-ageing. A powerful wine, this will pair with many dishes, including beef and tuna, etc. The Sauvignon Bolfan, I found aromatic, with tropical fruits being detected in the bouquet. Again, a full-flavoured wine, having an excellent balance and a most acceptable palate, with a superb finish. Another splendid wine, by this fine wine producer, which will match with many dishes. Impressive wines, from a multi award-winning, dedicated winery. www.bolfanvinskivrh.hr

Zdjelarević Classic Rajnski Rizling, I found to be both fruity and fresh, with a good bouquet. This Riesling wine is a very popular choice, for many. Zdjelarević Classic Graševina, has an elegant, easy-drinking mouthfeel. Again, a regular dry selection, having, particularly, a most pleasant palate sensation. These wines pair extremely well with numerous dishes, including fish, seafood and white meats. Vinarija Dingač Plavac (Plavac Mali), is an excellent red wine production. The enticing aroma leads to a palate which is both flavoursome and satisfying. For further details about these wines and many more: www.croatianfinewines.com Today, with viticulture far more developed, the winemaking industry of Croatia is enjoying increased sales volumes, including exports. High-quality Croatian wines can now be found in the UK supermarkets, independents, hotels, restaurants, etc and are available online, too.

As Always Enjoy!  By Trevor Langley
