I’ve been having great fun back here in Spain, with lots of adventures and days out. Recently we drove into the Alpujarra mountain range and spent a day looking around Lanjaron and then we took the steep windy drive up to O Sel Ling, which translates as ‘Place of the Clear Light.’ It’s a beautiful Tibetan Buddhist Stupa and temple, visited and blessed by His Holiness, the Dalai Lama in 1982. Surrounded by Tibetan prayer flags blowing in the wind, a trip up to O Sel Ling is definitely worth the journey. Your time there will be a period of introspection and self-reflection, chanting inwardly as you walk, and meditating as you sit in various elements of nature, including around a very peaceful, calming pond. You will return from O Sel Ling brimming with blessings and feeling lighter all over… I’ve got a little bit of BIG news to report in this edition of The Sentinella… I’m pregnant! Yes, you read that correctly… in about 6 months we’ll be welcoming a new soul into the world. Although the baby was unplanned my husband and I are seeing it as a massive blessing, sent straight from God. We have a favourite saying that goes like this: “All planning is a defense against God.”

Stop watch Early adopters of the new Apple Watch have found that the device malfunctions when worn by people with wrist tattoos. The issue was first pointed out on Reddit by a tattooed user who complained that his watch would regularly lose connection, and report inaccurate heart rate results. Scores of other users then reported similar issues. Apple Watch requests a security PIN immediately after detecting that it has left an owner's wrist, meaning that those affected are forced to repeatedly enter their code. Darker tattoos appear to cause more problems for the device than light inkings. Apple has not yet commented. Deep Freeze A brazen thief stole a bulky ice cream freezer at a Florida petrol station under the nose of a sleeping cashier. Video of the incident shows the suspect taking almost 15 minutes to heave the cooler away in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Oakland Park. He struck at 4.09am after walking up to the Chevron convenience store to find the clerk snoozing on the other side of the window. Footage shows him looking closely at the employee for a minute and then into the camera before making an obscene gesture. The sneaky thief examines the cooler from various angles before slowly dragging it away from the wall, so as not to rouse the sleeping cashier. He was later arrested.

Inheritance News From De Cotta Law Intestacy – dying without a valid will By De Cotta Law Valid wills The Spanish notarial system provides more security for those who make a valid will. This is because there is a Central Wills Registry where each notarial will is registered by the notary. The original will is always kept on the Protocol (archive) of the notary where you sign the will. The information at the Central Wills Registry will be the date and place where you made the will; your full name and date of birth and the names of your parents will assist with identifying you. A valid English will must be witnessed by two witnesses who are physically present when you sign. These witnesses should not stand to benefit from your will or be family members. However although wills can be registered in England there is no obligation to do so and most wills are kept at home or with the local solicitor in England who prepared them for you. Leaving Spanish assets in a will It is always advisable to execute a valid Spanish will before a notary if you own Spanish assets. The reason this is important is that property does not generally pass to your surviving spouse automatically in Spain. In the UK you can generally notify the Land Registry, the banks etc to transfer property into your sole name and in some cases where the estate is not of a high value no other formalities are required. If they are an application can be made for Letters of administration on intestacy. This is very different in Spain as the property passes independently to your appointed heirs and there is a procedure required to prove who should receive. Spanish law applies the law of your nationality to your estate. Therefore if you die leaving Spanish assets and have not made a valid will in either country your heirs need to prove firstly the law that should be applied on intestacy and secondly that they are entitled to
inherit. This applies to your spouse even though you may be joint owners of the assets. For some time we have been advising British nationals in Spain that it is wise to state the law you wish to be applied to your estate. While it would be difficult to overturn the application of your national law to your estate in wills made with this clause there will be added certainty in 2015. This is when the European legislation changes to state that you can elect the law to be applied to your succession and that this will be binding. The important thing to remember is that prevention is not only better than cure in this situation it is also less costly than cure. Beach Fun Things to do on the beach for free this summer! Go on a scavenger hunt and collect rocks, shells, seaweed, sea glass and sand. Put together a memory jar. Pretend you’re a pirate and hunt for buried treasure. This could be shells, beach glass, or trinkets and treasures left behind by other beach bums. Get some exercise, Mum and Dad! Gingers to get their own festival - and there'll even be carrot cake!! Flame-haired and freckled they may be, but now redheads are going to have their very own festival to celebrate their distinctive colouring. The event, being held on June 6 and 7 in Highwood, Chicago, is being dubbed Redheads Day Chicago on its Facebook page. It's affiliated to a festival which takes place in the Netherlands called Roodharigendag, and organiser Jim Stoecker, a redhead himself, is saying it's the first American celebration of its kind. He visited Roodharigendag in Breda in the Netherlands in 2012 and was so taken with the festival that when they put a call out for international hosts last year, he jumped at the chance. The festival is set to feature ginger-themed food and drinks, a carrot cake contest and a potential record-breaking photo. "We're going to ask all the redheads to get in-
side for a photo shoot and if it's a beautiful day, who know, maybe we'll beat the world record!" Jim told the Chicago Tribune. He is keen to point out that non-redheads are welcome, and says it's not about showcasing an "oppressed minority group", although only 1-2% of the world's population is ginger. "In Breda, the main show was just us looking at each other. You get a whole lot of redheads in a group and it's like, look at all those shapes and sizes and colours and ages. "It's just creating a place for us to gather and laugh and have a good time." Two redhead events have been held in London dubbed Redhead Days London pubmeets. Make note Bamber!

Benamargosa is located in the river valley of the same name some 15 kilometres inland from Velez-Málaga on the costa del Sol and about a half an hour´s drive by motorway from Málaga. The valley is practically evergreen and almost like an oasis in summertime, due to the plantations of avocado and citrus fruits lining the river. The village centre is 90 metres above sea level and the hills rising up along the side of the river reach 550 metres. Thanks to the warm climate of the area, it is possible to achieve more than one harvest. Traditional vineyards are to be found in the hills surrounding the village, growing the famous Málaga grapes used to make the well known sweet wines of the region. The traditional cultivation of olives, almonds and carob is gradually being replaced by the mango.

Colmenar, the capital of the Montes de Málaga, lies in the most westerly point of the Axarquía, 30 kilometres from Málaga and the coast and 44 klms from VélezMálaga. It is 703 metres above sea level and is part of the Ruta del Aceite y los Montes. Although populated since the Neolithical period Colmenar is one of the younger pueblos as it wasn´t until after the Christian King´s conquest that it was established in the 15th Century and didn´t become an independent township until 1777. Today around 4,000 people live in the village. The name comes from Colmena (Spanish for beehive) after a local honey producing Estate of the same name. Today there is a honey museum in the centre of the town where you can buy delicious honey (my favourite is the orange blossom) and the town’s coat of arms features a haycock with 7 bees buzzing around it. At the top of the village on a hill overlooking the whole area is the magnicent hermitage of La Santisima Virgen de la Candelaria. Built in the 17th century it is consecrated to the patron saint of Colmenar and became a historical local monument on July 4th 1982. Legend has

Lower down in the centre of the town is the 16th century parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción with its Moorish-style architecture, three naves separated by semicircular arches on square pillars. The town’s festive calendar starts on February 2nd with the festival in honour of the town´s patron saint, the Virgen de la Candaleria but one of the most popular festivals is the Dia de la Pipa which takes place on May 3rd when all the townsfolk head to the countryside to eat bread rolls filled with hard boiled eggs and of course to drink and be merry! The easiest way to get to Colmenar from Málaga is to take the autovia towards Sevilla/Granada and turn off at Casabermeja where one of the few remaining Osborne Bulls stands majestic on the hill in front of you. However, the most attractive route is via the Montes de Málaga on the Carretera de Colmenar, through the pine forests with the road winding higher and higher and over itself via 2 tunnels. There are a few Venta´s on route where you can stop to admire the view, take in the smell of the pines and generally have a good, relaxing time.

Pies And Bienestar When is it time to give up? That is not an easy question to answer. A simple answer would be NEVER, but life is not as simple as that. It really depends on what you want to achieve. If you are only looking for being right no matter how wrong you are, then by all means don’t give up, even if it makes you completely stupid. It is very human to have problems. In theory we may need our problems in order to feel more important, to get more attention, sympathy or pity. We talk about our problems and make them worse than they really are. As much as we apparently love our problems, since we talk about them all the time, we love our solutions even more. The good thing about solutions is that it is more constructive to focus on solutions than on problems. Unfortunately our solutions are often uninspected and do not work. At one point or another we decide that we have a solution and than we stick to it year by year, even if it doesn’t work at all. Things
like I’m going to stop smoking if I get pregnant; one day they will invent a miracle pill so that I can loose weight; I have been eating junk food for twenty years and haven’t died yet so it must be good for me...etc. What it really means is that we have not yet come to a point where change is needed, and if there is no need for change, nothing will change. Are you in perfect health, physically, socially and mentally? Are you coping alright with everyday stress, shortcomings and fears? Don’t invite disaster. Don’t even invite the smallest pain or loss of energy. Something can usually be done about it and if you are ready for a change then there is a good chance that we can help you. People Who Come And Go - Deborah Cater I CAME, I WENT, I CAME BACK AGAIN This is Deborah’s second time living here!! She previously rented a house in Sedella for 3 years, then spent time in Italy, fell in love, out of love, and returned around 10 months ago. Now, finally, she feels at home and has just purchased the sweetest little house, walking distance from the beach and yet in the middle of the countryside, near Almayate. The house needs some work, but it has enormous potential, an Andalusían style patio and a completely flat garden, all for a great price! “We will be making our property as green as possible...chickens are planned for one of the outbuildings and a strip of the garden, also a comfortable home for the three dogs, with a good walk down to the sea for all of us in the cooler hours (well, not the chickens). And we have well water too, so plenty to get growing in the garden!” Deborah loves the relaxed atmosphere of Spain which is most prevalent in Andalucía. “But it can be a double-edged sword; the bureaucracy here is infuriating. My advice would
be to do all you need to do in one short(ish) burst of activity, then you won't feel that your new/second home is in fact the offices of the Guardia Civil.” As she is just a young thing, I asked Deborah what she does for a living." “I teach English at a school around 20 minutes from here, so I am very lucky. I will have the sex appeal of a tin of Andrews Liver Salts, as with most men of my age. I just leave it up to the wife to deck me out in any apparel that she thinks is suitable. This is because I can guarantee, what ever I choose is wrong. As you get older, they say that certain brain cells start to die. It may be like that with me, the part of the brain that used to tell me that I looked good in skin tight trousers and thick sold beetle crusher shoes has now died. Now I am not saying that this destructive brain cell has died completely.Every so often, when I am been dragged around the shops. But do you have to build your own room? Brick by brick it's been painstakingly built - and now the new Legoland Resort Hotel is just about ready for the public. But do you have to build your own room? Luckily no. The attraction, unveiled last month, at the Winter Haven in Florida, was profiled on Click Orlando and it's all been built with proper materials. The features bear a resemblance to the Legoland Resort Hotel in Windsor. Visitors first encounter a Lego green smoke-breathing dragon before heading to a Lego pit by the check-in desk - for both parents and kids. There are 5,000 Lego Mini figures lining the walls and kids have bunk beds in their own rooms. There's even a disco elevator for the holiday to start when you're on your way to your floor. Brittany Williams with Legoland Florida Resorts said that the average guest is booking rooms for two nights, with the first two nights already
being completely sold out. "It's been incredibly popular. We've had people making reservations for months." Room themes in the resort, which spans five storeys, include adventure, pirate, kingdom and Lego Friends. Taryn Pisaneschi, a blogger for family holidays, told Click Orlando it was well worth a visit for Lego fans. "The whole experience was surprisingly good. Recipe Of The Month Chicken Stir Fry with Mango Stir-fry dishes are always popular as they are so quick and versatile. Alter the vegetables according to what you have available. The mango in this stir-fry gives an exotic twist. Serves 4 2 tbsp oil 4 x skinless chicken breasts, cut into strips 1 clove garlic, thinly sliced 2 cm piece root ginger peeled and thinly sliced 200g pack egg noodles Juice of 1 lime 1 tbsp chilli sauce 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds 2 carrots sliced and cut on the diagonal 150g/6oz mange tout, cut into strips 1 red pepper, deseeded and cut into squares 1 mango, peeled stoned and sliced 2 spring onions, trimmed and sliced Few spears of asparagus (optional) Method: 1. Heat half the oil in a wok or large frying pan until pan very hot. Add the chicken and cook until tender, remove and set aside. 2. Add the remaining oil to the wok and fry the garlic and ginger for 30 seconds until lightly browned. 3. Meanwhile cook the noodles according to the packet instructions, drain and reserve some of the cooking liquid. 4. Mix together the lime juice, chilli sauce and sesame seeds. 5. Place the wok over a high heat add the carrots, mange tout, aparagus and red pepper together with 3 tablespoons of the noodle cooking liquid. Stir-fry for 3-5 minutes until the vegetables start to colour but retain their crunchiness. 6. Add the mango, return the chicken to the pan with the noodles and the sauce mix. Toss together with the vegetables and a further 2 tablespoons of the cooking liquid. Cook for a further 30 -40 seconds. Serve immediately.

A Song For Spain Eight years ago Tricia Gabbitas left chilly Yorkshire to spend winter in Torre del Mar. As she walked along the Paseo Maritimo she found herself composing a song that she called “Espania”. Don't be daunted by artichokes. This fantastic vegetable is not only tasty, but comes armed with a barrage of potent, healthful and cancerfighting nutrients. The globe artichoke, cynara scolymus, is the immature flower of a thistle plant and one of the oldest cultivated vegetables in the world. It comes to fruition in summer and, though a little tricky to prepare, is a delight to eat and bursting with goodness. Most people's favourite part of the artichoke is the heart, but the leaves are actually the source of the vast majority of its health benefits. In clinical studies, artichoke leaf extract has been proven to have potent disease-fighting and anti-ageing properties. Artichokes are packed with phytonutrients such as quercetin, rutin, gallic acid and cynarin, which all help to protect against many health risks including cancer, heart disease, liver dysfunction, high cholesterol and diabetes. In 2004, the United States Department of Agriculture conducted a comprehensive study analysing the antioxidant content of the most commonly consumed foods. To the surprise of many, artichokes ranked in the top four vegetables and seventh overall. Artichokes are probably best known for their cholesterol reducing and liver protecting properties. The French have known this for years and often take artichoke extract during periods of indulgence, such as at Christmas, as it helps digest fatty foods and ease indigestion. We all know the dangers of high cholesterol and the increased risk of coronary heart disease and atherosclerosis. Cynarin in artichokes has been conclusively proven to reduce bad cholesterol dramatically. The high concentration of cynarin can also improve digestive health. Cynarin is known to stimulate the production of bile, which enables
us to digest fats and absorb vitamins from our food, making artichokes an excellent way to start any meal – especially if it is rich and high in fat. Artichoke leaf extract can be very helpful for people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and dyspepsia, or upset stomach. In a study at the University of Reading, 208 adults who suffered from IBS and dyspepsia were monitored over a two-month period of treatment with artichoke leaf extract. Results showed a 26.4 per cent reduction in IBS incidence among the participants at the end of the trial. Many subjects also reported a return to normal bowel function instead of the "alternating constipation/diarrhoea" typical of IBS. Dyspepsia symptoms also fell by 41 per cent after treatment and, in general, the participants noted a 20 per cent increase in quality of life after treatment.

In the 18th century, members of the European aristocracy would remove goldfish from their ponds and place them into decorative bowls for special occasions.
The female lays up to 500 eggs at a time. Once the eggs are released, the male fertilizes them. Goldfish will eat their own eggs. Contrary to popular belief, the goldfish memory span is far beyond three seconds. Goldfish have the capacity to learn and adopt patterns of behaviour. A school of goldfish is known as a "troubling." Goldfish do not blink because they have no eyelids.
There are hundreds of varieties of goldfish found around the world. Goldfish have teeth in their throat called pharyngeal teeth which are used to help them crush their food. Goldfish may grow as long as 23 inches and weigh nearly 7 pounds, although this is rare. Goldfish do not have stomachs. Different parts of their intestines do the job of breaking down food and absorbing nutrients. Goldfish can live up to 30 years—longer than most other aquarium fish. Goldfish cannot be reliably sexed until they are at least one year of age. It is easiest to identify the distinguishing features between male and female goldfish during the breeding season. At that time, males develop white, pimple-like spots on their gills. The females’ abdomen becomes enlarged. Goldfish courtship can create quite a splash in the aquarium! Once the female reaches sexual maturity, she begins to release pheromones. This triggers the male to begin his pursuit by chasing the female around and poking at her stomach. This behaviour is often confused with fighting and can become quite aggressive. The male is trying to get the female to release her eggs which are held in the abdomen.

Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar invite you and your friends to come to the Centre to listen to a power point talk by Raquel Mason, the Association Director of Akshy, which is a non-profit making Non Government Organization in India whose principal aim is to improve the living conditions and education of the poorest children the “untouchables” (or dalits). The talk will start with a general description of the aims of Akshy and will then continue with the history and news of the Kamal Children’s Centre, which is where the charitable work takes place that Lux Mundi donates too. The Centre is located in the village of Jaitiya and has two groups of 41 children studying pre-nursery education. You will be pleased to hear that due to the kind generosity of the friends of Lux Mundi, they were able to buy their first cabinet to store the school books and stationery. Secondly the most important purchase was a sewing machine which then enabled nice blue school uniforms to be made. The children are very proud of these new uniforms and they learn to care for them and always keep them clean. After the talk there will be a curry lunch and drink. Mon 8th – Quiz Night. The doctor set the pain transfer to 10%, for starters, explaining that even 10% was probably more pain the father had ever experienced before. However, as the labour progressed, the husband felt fine and asked the doctor to go ahead and "kick it up a notch." The doctor then adjusted the machine to 20% pain transfer. The husband still feeling fine. The doctor checked the husbands blood pressure and was amazed at how well he was doing at this point, they decided to try for 50%, the husband continued to feel quite well. Since the pain transfer was obviously helping out the wife considerably, the husband encouraged the doctor to transfer ALL the pain to him. The wife delivered a healthy baby boy with virtually no pain. She and her husband were ecstatic. When they got home, the milkman was dead on the porch!
