Well at the time of writing this, it is still OK for me to say a very warm welcome to the November edition — let’s hope I haven’t jinxed anything. I cannot remember an October that has been quite so hot. I got a Facebook memory the other day from four years ago and it mentioned one of the worst storms we have ever had — it happened on that very day! Fingers crossed we have an extra-warm winter to save on those rising electricity bills, but we must remember we do need enough water to refill Lake Vinuela; I drove past it the other week and it was looking scarily low. I hope you all had a brilliant Halloween; we can of course now start thinking about the next major festivity — ‘Christmas’. I just can’t believe where this year has gone — time really needs to slow down, but perhaps it’s my age starting to play a part in that?
November 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the Remembrance Poppy. The poppy is a symbol for all soldiers who have given up their lives, and we also remember and thank their families who suffered so that others around the world can actually enjoy freedom and all the other privileges that go with living in peace. We have dedicated our front cover to them to show our respect for all involved.
At The Sentinella we have been busy this past year developing our new website www.thesentinella.com It is a very unique site and we have yet to find one quite like it. This site allows you to log in and ‘add your own listing’ but not only add it, you can manage it too: hourly, daily, weekly, monthly — you decide, 365 days per year!
Once you have constructed your listing, choosing from a wide selection of great features, you can then easily share it on many social media sites for maximum exposure and it will be guaranteed to hit an even bigger audience. Business Directory websites are

Weird welcome A North Yorkshire farmer got ready for both Halloween and the pumpkin picking season last month with the creation of a giant creepy crawlie to welcome visitors. William Alderson, 28, grew up to 10,000 pumpkins on his Hambleton farm in preparation for October 31. And to add some Halloween thrills to the pumpkin-picking experience, he created a giant spider sculpture to delight — or terrify — visitors. “We had about four and a half acres of pumpkins,” said Mr Alderson, who started the venture five years ago. “People travel from all over the North-East to pick their own. “When families arrive, they are given a wheelbarrow and they enter the pumpkin patch to go and pick what they want. "It’s good for children to learn about growing things, and to get out in a field and get some fresh air and exercise.” Ploughed proposal Each and every proposal story has its own unique set of highlights - from the location to the method of asking. They can be a stressful affair - as many tend to overthink the nerve-wracking situation where they ask the love of their life to marry them. One farmer went viral after ploughing the words 'will you marry me?' into a field before flying his girlfriend over the top in a hot air balloon. Romantic Sam Tucker, 24, ploughed the words into the ground at his dairy farm in Wellington, Somerset. It took him two hours to make the message which stretches over 100 metres - using a machine of just three metres wide. "It was a beautiful day too, which was lucky,” he said. “October wasn't the best month for British weather to do it, but it was a really perfect morning.

Strange News (Continued)
Sprinkle strike A fuming bakery owner's rant went viral after a customer reported his 'illegal sprinkles' to the Trading Standards office. Leeds-based Rich Myers slammed the unknown customer who reported him to Trading Standards over the best-selling cake topping - and claimed the British-made ones taste like "crap." The baker said officers from Trading Standards officer visited his bakery recently before ruling that the US-imported sprinkles that he uses are banned. The colourful sprinkles contain E127, which is 'not permitted' for use in sprinkles in the UK. The 32-year-old branded the whole ordeal 'ridiculous' and went viral after the bakery recorded the ordeal online. In one post, he wrote: "To whoever reported us to Trading Standards, all I have to say is, dear lord, what a sad little life you have. My daughter, who is now seven months, has to live with the fact that daddy can't take her to Disneyland, because I’m not allowed to sell any ******* cookies."
Mushroom porridge? Most of us likely don't stray far from raisins and berries when it comes to sprucing up our porridge, but a savoury dish containing mushrooms and white wine has won this year's World Porridge Making Championship. Other ingredients in the oat arancini, made by Dutch food blogger Miriam Groot, 25, included vegetable stock, lemon zest and pepper. Arancini are stuffed Italian rice balls that are coated in breadcrumbs and deep-fried. In hers, Ms Groot used pinhead oatmeal instead of rice. Judges assessing the various dishes decided Ms Groot's was the one they most wanted to try. The competition usually takes place in Carrbridge in the Scottish Highlands but went online because of the coronavirus pandemic. Those making up the top 10 included two Americans, two Australians, one cook from Germany, two from England and one from Scotland. Her blog, for anyone interested in her recipe, is called the Veggie Reporter.

Making Friends At Work
I’m really easy to get along with once you people learn to see it my way.
I’ll try being nicer if you’ll try being smarter.
It sounds like English, but I can’t understand a damn word you’re saying. I like you. You remind me of myself when I was young and stupid.
I’m already visualising the duct tape over your mouth. I will always cherish the initial misconceptions I had about you. I’m not being rude. You’re just insignificant.
11
Do I look like a people person?
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left.
If I throw a stick, will you leave?
Errors have been made. Others will be blamed.
I’m trying to imagine you with a personality. Nice perfume. Must you marinate in it?
Chaos, panic and disorder. My work here is done. How do I set a laser printer to stun?
Too many freaks, not enough circuses.

What we learn from films
In A Film’s World
All hotel beds have special L-shaped cover sheets which reach up to the armpit level on a woman, but only to waist level on the man lying beside her. All grocery shopping bags contain at least one loaf of French bread. It’s easy for someone to land a plane providing there is someone in the control tower to talk you down.
The ventilation system of any building is the perfect hiding place. No one will ever think of looking for you in there and you can travel to any part of the building you want without difficulty. The Eiffel Tower can be seen from any window in Paris.
Medieval peasants had perfect teeth.
Any person waking from a nightmare will sit bolt upright and pant.
Any lock can be picked by a credit card or a paper clip in seconds – unless it’s the door to a burning building with a child trapped inside.
A man will show no pain while taking the most ferocious beating, but will wince when a woman tries to clean his wounds. All bombs are fitted with electronic timing devices with large red readouts so you know exactly when they are going to go off. A detective can only solve a case once he has been suspended from duty.
If you need to reload your gun, you will always have more ammunition, even if you haven’t been carrying any before now.

Vanilla Pudding Robbery
Excerpted from an article which appeared in The Dublin Times about a bank robbery.
‘Once inside the bank shortly after midnight, their efforts at disabling the security system got underway immediately. The robbers, who expected to find one or two large safes filled with cash & valuables, were surprised to see hundreds of smaller safes throughout the bank. The robbers cracked the first safe's combination, and inside they found only a small bowl of vanilla pudding. As recorded on the bank's audio tape system, one robber said, 'At least we'll have a bit to eat.' The robbers opened up a second safe, and it also contained nothing but vanilla pudding. The process continued until all safes were opened.
They did not find one pound sterling, a diamond, or an ounce of gold. Instead, all the safes contained covered little bowls of pudding. Disappointed, the robbers made a quiet exit, each leaving with nothing more than a queasy, uncomfortably full stomach. The newspaper headline read: ‘Ireland’s largest Sperm Bank robbed early this morning’ I don’t know about you but I feel a bit queasy just reading it!!

Roaming Charges In Spain With UK SIMs
Lobster, the only mobile network in Spain to offer a service completely in English, has always recommended getting a local SIM in Spain for British living or spending time in Spain. With Lobster you can be in Spain for as long as you like and use your tariff plan as much as you like, and never have to worry about any surprise expensive mobile roaming charges.
Brexit brought with it a lot of uncertainty for British living in Spain, but one thing for certain is that Lobster customers continue to enjoy a great mobile service in Spain with no changes. The same cannot be said for British in Spain using their UK SIMs. One of the changes since Brexit that we are now seeing is that a lot of the UK mobile networks are introducing, or about to introduce, mobile charges when roaming in Spain. These mobile roaming charges can be very expensive and lead to bill shocks. Avoid any worries or bill shocks when in Spain by getting a local SIM with Lobster. Lobster is the only mobile operator in Spain to offer a service completely in English.
Everything is in English, the Lobster website, the app, the advertising, and most importantly the Lobster Customer Contact Centre agents are all native English speakers. They look after customers with its best-in-class Customer Contact Centre. There are no automated answering machines. Lobster answers all calls with real people, always. Customers can choose from 3 simple and competitive tariff plans. They are tailor-made for British so you can keep in touch with loved ones and friends back home. They all come with unlimited calls and texts in Spain, to the UK and other countries, and big data deals, and start from just 12€ per month VAT included. And what's more Lobster has a promotion currently running where you get 50% more data in all tariff plans until the end of 2021! With Lobster there are no commitments, lock-ins or hidden surprises. Lobster wants its customers to stay because they're happy with the service! See main advert opposite

How Many Zeros In A Billion
This is too true to be funny
The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money. A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of it's releases. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet. A billion pounds ago was only 13 hours and 12 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it. Building Permit Tax, Cigarette Tax, Corporate Income Tax, Income Tax, Vat Tax, Unemployment Tax, Fishing License Tax, Food Licence Tax, Fuel Permit Tax, Petrol/Diesel Tax, Hunting Licence Tax, Inheritance Tax, Inventory Tax, (tax on top of tax), Liquor Tax, Luxury Tax, Marriage
License Tax, Property Tax, Real Estate Tax, Service Charge Taxes, Social Security Tax, Road Usage Tax, Local Tax, Vehicle License Registration Tax, Vehicle Sales Tax and Workers Compensation Tax. Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago and our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt... We had the largest middle class in the world... And Mum stayed home to raise the kids. What happened?

Property Issues : Flat Roofs & Roof Terraces
Problems Associated With Flat Roofs and Roofs Terraces
You will often inherit a flat roof and roof terraces when purchasing a property, as they are a common design feature here in Spain.
Upper terraces are often structurally sound, it is unusual for them to be built as an afterthought. Although I have come across instances where this is the case, where they are separating from the main building. However, flat roof and terraces can still be a cause for concern and costly to put the faults right.
The main problem associated with flat roofs and terraces is water ingress. The main structure of Spanish properties is reinforced concrete. The builder will often skip the very important phase of preparation, which involves sealing the concrete from water penetration, by simply laying the tiles onto the concrete.
Due to the extreme variations in temperature the tiles will expand and contract with the result that the grouting after a few years will start to degrade and water will find it’s way below. The concrete will absorb the water and travel along the beams into the living space below, causing the ceiling plaster to blow, separate and crack.
Invariably, drainage is poorly thought through. The very heavy downpours, experienced here in Spain, will cause damage as the water cannot escape fast enough due to vegetation blocking drains or the water pooling as the runoff is insufficient. Often, there is no drip ledge on the terrace tiles so the water runs down the walls and is absorbed by the plaster as it cascades down the sides of the property, causing moss to grow on the outer walls, scaring the building.
25
The terracotta bricks, that all Spanish houses are constructed of are extremely porous and so, over the winter months, they will hold the water causing fungus to form on the interior of the properties. SOLUTIONS Simply tiling over the old tiles will not resolve these issues. The only longterm solution is to remove the old tiles, screed the flat roof or roof terrace and seal the concrete, using a roof membrane. The correct laying of the impermeable membrane is crucial to the longterm life of the terrace or flat roof. The tiles can then be laid in the safe knowledge that the roof will be impermeable to water ingress.
A thorough understanding of a proper drainage system prior to the laying of the tiles is needed. Contact us at LT Construction for all of your roof terrace and flat roof concerns and issues, contact the experts at LT Construction. See main advert opposite

Interesting Facts... Before the visitor influx, banana exports sustained St Lucia, especially
after 1964 when it stopped producing sugar cane.
Most St Lucians are the descendants of African slaves, brought in by the British in the 19th century to work on sugar plantations. In 1834, Slavery was abolished in St. Lucia.
Despite the abolishment of slavery, St. Lucia continued to cultivate sugarcane until 1964 when the sugarcane fields were swapped out for banana trees. Today, bananas are the most bountiful crop on the island. Other crops grown in St. Lucia include coconuts, cacao, mango, avocado, cassava and yams. Although St Lucia is a former British colony, the French settled in the 17th century. Their influence lives on in the patois spoken in the country. In 1979, Saint Lucia established a sovereignty of its own, gaining independence from Britain. Saint Lucia is the only country in the world to be named after a woman.
English is the official language of Saint Lucia, although 95% of the population speak Saint Lucian French or Patois.

Beware Scam
Please, please, please - make yourself aware of where this is happening AND tell your friends!
Over the last month I became a victim of a clever 'Eastern European' scam while out shopping. Simply dropping into Mercadona in Torre del Mar for a bit of shopping has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends. Here's how the scam works: Two seriously good-looking young men with foreign accents come over to your car and help pack your shopping into the boot. They then both start cleaning your windscreen. Their firm young bodies bulging out of their skimpy vest tops. It's impossible not to look. When you thank them and offer them a tip, they'll say 'No' and instead ask you for a lift to another store, in my case, Aldi in Caleta de Velez. You agree and they both get in the backseat. On the way, they start undressing, and both get completely naked. Then, when
you pull over to remonstrate, one of them climbs over into the front seat and starts kissing you, touching you intimately, and thrusting himself against you, while the other one steals your purse!
I had my purse stolen September 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, 24th, and 29th. Also October 1st, 4th, twice on the 6th, three times last Saturday and very likely again this coming weekend. So Be Warned! P.S. Lidl have purses on sale for 1.99€ each, Aldi's are only 1.75€ and look much nicer :)

Out And About In Torrox
Torrox is the name of a collection of locations situated east of Torre Del Mar. This is a popular spot to live and holiday for both Spanish and other European nations with one big factor being it has the best climate in Europe. Each of these places have much to offer in their own right and collectively, they form a lovely area to live, work and relax. Torrox Costa is located just 15km from Torre Del Mar. Torrox Costa has a totally different character and personality to its near neighbour. Like much of this coast, there’s an impressive promenade that sweeps the length of the beaches here. At its eastern end, just past the lighthouse, the beach is dog friendly and is a great spot to let your furry friend run along the shoreline. Torrox Pueblo is situated at the foothills of the Alpujarra mountains, a couple of miles inland from Torrox Costa. This is traditional white-washed village set in a green valley. There’s a traditional Spanish feel to this small village, despite it being the home to many people from other parts of the world. Located between Torrox Costa and Pueblo, Torrox Park is a large collection of urbanisations that are popular relocation spots with those who decide to make this area of Axarquía their home. There’s property to suit every budget and style: spacious villas, townhouses and apartments along with a large and well equipped mobile home park that allows all year living. Whilst, in itself, Torrox Park, doesn’t offer much for day trippers, many visitors stay here as homes are frequently listed for holiday rental. It does provide all the services required for a smooth stay or relocation: bars, restaurants, supermarkets as well as doctors, chemists, hairdressers etc. The combination of Torrox Costa, Pueblo and Park is a winning one. Each has their own distinct character but each are connected to form an excellent place to stay, explore and maybe even to live.

Get Up & Get Going... Making All The Right Decisions
A friend of mine was once asked why she was mad enough to get up at 6am every morning to go and exercise. Her answer was so on point and true; that have I tried to live every day by it. “If you make a good decision first thing in the morning then you tend to make good decisions throughout the rest of your day”
This can mean so many different things to so many different people. To me, if I have exercised, then when it comes to eating I tend to want to eat goodness to compliment the fact that I have done something physically positive for my body. I also want to drink more water and cut back on alcohol because I don´t want to negate my efforts with the exercise and food. By making a positive step first thing, I find my mood for the rest of the day is better, not only am I proud of myself but also the endorphins from the exercise and goodness from the food makes me energised and ready to face stress with alot clearer head and outlook. Each positive decision I make leads to another and life becomes a joy
and not a task.
Bodyworks’ ethic is exactly this and, as a centre, we strive to provide whatever service is needed for our clients to be in their optimum physical condition and be able to live everyday physically and mentally positive. Through the remedial massage and physical therapy, we help those who struggle with muscle injury, immobilisation, surgery recovery and just general aches and pains. No one should ever live with pain and should never accept it is “an age thing!”. Once back on their feet the Bodyworks’ team offer an array of exercise classes designed to suit all ages, levels and abilities. We provide expert advice on nutrition, hydration, occupational therapy and home exercising. Our aim, as a Centre of Physical Fitness, is to equip our clients with all of the tools and physicality to be able to make that first decision a positive one everyday. See main advert below

Mother’s Job Description
Need a Job? Look no further!
Job Description: Long term team players needed for challenging permanent work in an often chaotic environment. Candidates must possess excellent communication and organisational skills, be willing to work variable hours which will include evenings and weekends, and frequent 24 hour shifts on call. Some overnight travel required including trips to primitive camping sites on rainy weekends and endless sports tournaments in far away cities. Travel expenses not reimbursed. Extensive courier duties also required.
Responsibilities: The candidate must be willing to be hated, at least temporarily, until someone needs €5. Must be willing to bite tongue repeatedly. Must possess the physical stamina of a pack mule and be able to go from zero to 60 mph in three seconds flat in case the screams from the backyard are not someone just crying wolf. Must be willing to face stimulating technical challenges such as small gadget repair, mysteriously sluggish toilets, and stuck zips. Must screen phone calls, maintain calendars, and coordinate production of multiple homework projects. Must have ability to plan and organise social gatherings for clients of all ages and mental outlooks. Must be willing to be indispensable one minute and an embarrassment the next. Must handle assembly and product safety testing of a half million cheap, plastic toys and battery operated devices. Must always hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst. Must assume final, complete accountability for the quality of the end product. Responsibilities also include floor maintenance and janitorial work throughout the facility. Possibility for advancement and promotion:
Virtually none. Your job is to remain in the same position for years, without complaining, constantly retraining and updating your skills so that those in your charge(s) can ultimately surpass you. Previous Experience: None required. On-the-job training offered on a continually exhausting basis.
Wages and Compensation: Get this! You pay them! Offering frequent raises and bonuses. A balloon payment is due when the offspring turn 18 because of the assumption that college will help them become financially independent. When you die, you give your children whatever is left. The oddest thing about this reverse-salary scheme is that you actually enjoy it and wish you could only do more.
Benefits: While there are no health insurance, no dental insurance, no pension, no tuition reimbursement, no paid holidays, and no stock options offered, this job supplies limitless opportunities for growth. The jobs yours!!

Customer Review For Plumbing By Chris
Through the 23 years of living here, I have had many problems with the water system. Not being financially well off and being mechanically minded I was able to overcome them. Until recently! After failed attempts, I had to call in the water boiler engineer and he told me the pressure was far too high and I needed a reducing valve, which was not his line of work. After attempting and failing to get the village plumber to do the job I saw an advert in The Sentinella magazine for Plumbing By Chris. I called Chris up and the next day, Friday, he arrived exactly on time, looked at and photographed the job (the wonders of modern times), and said he would let me know on Monday. He rang me Monday night and told me that beause of his previous work commitments, it had not been possible for him to get the equipment he needed, for which he apologised but he would do it the next day. This wasn’t possible as it was a Spanish holiday. We rearranged the job for Friday at 08.30am. The small space that Chris had to work in meant it had to be an elaborate piece of work. Even though, through no fault of his own, being one small yet important piece short which he had to go off to purchase, the job only took a couple of hours and his bill was more than worth it. The job looks like a functional work of art worthy of any art muesum. Chris is a jovial person and a professional in his work and I would recommend his services a million times over. Pedro Groves, Iznate

The Poison Fruit
Apples and Wine
Women are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. Most men don’t want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they sometimes take the apples from the ground that aren’t as good, but easy. The apples at the top think something is wrong with them, when in reality, they’re amazing. They just have to wait for the right man to come along, the one who is brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree.
Now men… men are like a fine wine. They begin as grapes, and it’s up to women to stomp the s*** out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.

Play On Words
A nice selection of rather clever words...
An invisible man married an invisible woman. The kids were nothing to look at.
Mr & Mrs Invisible’s wedding
I didn't think the chiropractor would improve my posture. But I stand corrected.
I took my new girlfriend out on our first date to the ice rink, and entry was half price. She called me a cheapskate. Studies show cows produce more milk when the farmer talks to them. It's a case of in one ear and out the udder.
I used to date a girl with one leg who worked at a brewery. She was in charge of the hops.
My cross-eyed wife and I just got a divorce. I found out she was seeing someone on the side. My wife claims I'm the cheapest person she's ever met. I'm not buying it. A raven has 17 rigid feathers called pinions, while a crow only has 16. The difference between a raven and a crow is just a matter of a pinion. I told my carpenter I didn't want carpeted steps. He gave me a blank stair.
What did the surgeon say to the patient who insisted on closing up his own incision? Suture self!

Following the recent 500€ donation by 41 Club Nerja to the Nerja Solidaria Food Bank, Club Secretary Brian Karet made a further generous gesture. He kindly asked guests at his Birthday party (he's being shy about his age!) to donate money to the Nerja Food Bank, instead of buying him presents
The result was a fabulous total of 250€ which Brian was delighted to present to Nerja Solidaria President Miguel Benitez Centurion.
63
Brian, along with 14 other local people, is also a volunteer at the Food Bank. While thanking Brian, President Miguel was also keen to stress that "Although we are starting to move away from some difficulties that were caused by the Pandemic our Food Bank still provides a vital lifeline for many struggling local families" and he also recognised the "Wonderful help from all the volunteers and the generous local community, such as 41 Club Nerja, as well". If you would like to help the Food Bank in any way, through volunteering, fundraising or donating please contact Elena at nerjasolidariadealimentos@gmail.com or find them on Facebook.

Die m l o i F Time T No
Released: October 2021 Director: Cary JojiFukunaga Cast: Daniel Craig, Léa Seydoux, Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch, Ralph Fiennes
Daniel Craig’s final film is an epic barnstormer, with the script from Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and Phoebe Waller-Bridge delivering pathos, drama, camp comedy (Bond will call M “darling” in moments of tetchiness), heartbreak and outrageously silly, old-fashioned action in a movie which calls to mind the world of Dr No on his island. A queasy and dreamlike prelude hints at a terrible formative trauma in the childhood of Dr Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), who is now enjoying a romantic getaway with James. But a shocking act of violence destroys their idyll and Bond has some spectacular stunts as he hurls himself from a
bridge. It all has a lot to do with a sinister biowarfare plan called “Heracles” being developed by M (Ralph Fiennes) using a renegade scientist Obruchev – but both creepy boffin and weapon are stolen in a sequence of preposterous action comedy, incidentally involving a sullen, bickering functionary played in cameo by Hugh Dennis. Both MI6 and the CIA want Obruchev back – but British intelligence does not care to involve Bond who is now in retirement in Jamaica, and M has handed over his 007 status to new agent Nomi, stylishly played by Lashana Lynch. But the Americans, in the form of his old buddy Felix Leiter and an uptight new state department appointee Logan Ash persuade Bond to take on the job as a freelance, and send him to Cuba, where he liaises with an untrained operative, Paloma. The awful truth is that M has allowed “Heracles” to be compromised by the creepy Blofeld who is being kept by the Brits in Lecter-ish imprisonment, but has managed to direct this new plan from his hi-tech cell, but who is now himself under attack by the new ubervillain in town – Safin, who has gained a personal obsession with Bond himself. Breathtaking Mountain Setting With Exceptional Hiking Trails
The municipality of Canillas de Aceituno and its near neighbour, Canillas de Albaida are set high in the mountains of Axarquía with excellent views of the Mediterranean Sea and the mountain ranges of North Africa on the far horizon. Both towns are perfect examples of the pueblo blanco and well worth the twisting mountain ascent.
Canillas de Aceituno trails the mountains of the Sierra Tejeda right along to the highest peak, Mount Maroma. This stunning location makes it a popular starting point for outdoor enthusiasts. The vistas from the viewing platform handily located above the town’s free car park offer incredible scenes across the coast of Andalusia to the Atlas Mountains of North Africa. It’s then a meandering, climb along narrow streets with brilliant white houses bedecked with flowers to the town centre and its several cafes and bars. This is a peaceful place: in summer afternoons it could be described as sleepy as it languishes in the summer heat. It is a town where time can really be described to have stood still and, whilst a number of Europeans have made this attractive location their home, it retains its charm and traditions. Annual festivals One such tradition is its annual festival held on the last Sunday in April, the village of Canillas de Aceituno hosts the fiesta of El Día de la Morcilla. This is day to celebrate the humble black pudding. This is a speciality black-pudding mixed with onion, and for which the village is famous across the region. The festival attracts a large crowd to eat this delicacy and drink beer and wine. Only in Spain would a black pudding be elevated to haute cuisine.
Aside from the edible delights of El Dia de la Morcilla, Canillas de Aceituno offers a number of excellent restaurants. Many of these serve the local specialties: chivo al horno or en
salsa de almendras, roasted goat served with an almond sauce, potaje de hinojos a hearty fennel stew or olla, a tasty meat and chickpea stew. The food is warm and nostalgic and represents the fact that this is a mountain region. Other festivals include the Romería de San Isidro, held in May, and is a major religious procession. Traditional massive pans filled with paella line the streets and is freely offered to visitors and locals.
In mid August, the Feria de Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza takes place. This is another procession when The Virgin statue is paraded through the town and this event is celebrated with dancing, music, food and drink.
El Saltillo Suspension Bridge A major draw of this region are the mountains and the hikes. The most recent and dramatic addition to this area is the El Saltillo Suspension Bridge, constructed of steel and wood and hanging across a stunning canyon. It is part of the El Saltillo trail which is a spectacular and popular path along the side of the mountains. The bridge among the three largest suspension bridges in Spain in a natural setting and it is not for the faint hearted or those with a fear of heights. It is an impressive 50 metres long and 50 metres above the Almanchares River. The bridge spans the canyon and offers incredible views.

Breathtaking Mountain Setting With Exceptional Hiking Trails
Another highly recommended route is the Neveros trail which ascends to the highest peak in the Malaga province: La Maroma, at a height of 2,066 metres it dominates the area. The climb is well worth the exertion for the incredible views and wonderfully exhilarating mountain air. Canillas de Aceituno with its idyllic location and wonderful scenery is a spectacular place to spend a day hiking, celebrating a local festival or the perfect place to have a very relaxed holiday in a real and unspoilt Andalucian white village.
Sedella Close by the village of Canillas de Aceituno and equally as pretty is Sedella, originally known as Villa del Castillo, the Castle Village.
67
This is another Morisco village: a former Moorish village which underwent a Christian conversion from Islam. It’s main product is locally produced wine from the vineyards which are visible all across the gentle slopes that surround the village. Sedella with its whitewashed houses and picturesque narrow streets forms an excellent stop on the Ruta del Mudéjar. In fact there is even a Mudejar tower in the centre of the village. However, it is nature, that is the real highlight of this village. The highest peak of the Sierra de Tejeda, La Maroma, lies within the village boundaries as does the Horeada Cave and the El Salto Del Caballo. All of these natural attractions offer the visitor a chance to discover the beauty of Axarquía.

Spanish Tax Payments
Spanish Tax Payments for Non-Residents by Bank Transfer from Abroad
2) Next, you must specify the account number from which the transfer will be made.
On 18th January 2021, the Spanish Tax Authorities passed an important resolution to provide a Spanish tax payment facility which enables non-residents to pay their Spanish taxes from abroad.
3) Once this is done, the system will inform you of the account into which you must transfer the money and will assign you with a code (which will generally be the NIF / NIE of the non-resident).
On 15th March 2021, the system was activated so that from that date non-residents can pay their Spanish taxes by bank transfer from abroad. Using this method, non-resident taxpayers will be able to pay most of their taxes without having a bank account in Spain. The taxpayer must bear in mind that it is always better to make the tax payments from a bank in Spain, as this method of tax payment is simpler and more direct. The payment procedure from abroad is a bit complicated. To make the payment by bank transfer, the non-resident must do the following:
4) Within 30 days, the non-resident must transfer the money, indicating the previous code as a reference for the transfer.
1) Submit the self-assessment form electronically by checking the option "Acknowledgment of debt and payment by transfer".
CONCLUSION: non-residents can now pay their taxes in Spain by bank transfer from abroad. Should you need any assistance with the preparation or payment of your Spanish taxes do not hesitate to contact our Law office. We have tax specialists who will be happy to assist. I have never had sex with a man. I am awaiting a letter from the Pope confirming that my son’s conception was immaculate and that he is Christ risen again. 6. I cannot inform you of the name of child A’s dad as he informs me that to do so would blow his cover and that would have cataclysmic implications for the British economy. I am torn between doing right by you and right by the country. Please advise. 7. I do not know who the father of my child was. All squaddies look the same to me. I can confirm he was a Royal Green jacket. 8. Peter Smith is the father of child A. If you do catch up with him can you ask what he did with my AC/DC cds? 9. From the dates it seems that my daughter was conceived at Euro Disney: Maybe it really is the Magic Kingdom.
3. I do not know the name of the father of my little girl. She was conceived at a party at 36 Grand Avenue, where I had unprotected sex with a man I met that night. I do remember the sex was so good that I fainted. If you do manage to track down the father, can you send me his phone number? Thanks. 4. I don’t know the identity of the father of my

AA Meetings In English
“I was a binge drinker who drank to blackout – but just couldn’t see I had any problem”
Entrepreneur Lee, aged 48, grew up with an alcoholic father who made a fortune and then drank it all away and died from drinking. Lee very nearly did the same, until he was forced to face the stark truth…
“My father was an alcoholic. My mother left him when I was three. He had assets worth more than a million –but drank, gambled and drugged it away until he died penniless. Then after four serious health issues in five years, my mother died from alcoholism too. Prior to her death I went to Al-Anon meetings that help people who have an alcoholic friend or relative. While there, we’d listen to the recovering alcoholics in the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting next door. But I had no idea I had a drink problem.
My first drink on my own was when I was 13. I drank to blackout most times. I was a binge drinker. I couldn’t stop when I started. Meanwhile, to prove to my constantly criticising stepfather I could be somebody, I worked obsessively and built up a successful business empire. But that just became a source of stress that gave me more “reason” to drink.
The point I decided I had to do something was when I went to a nightclub after drinking heavily. A guy I’d fallen out with saw me in the corner passed out and he had someone take a photo while he held me in a headlock, with two girls either side laughing. He sent the photo to me and I was so humiliated and angry.
At this same time a friend called who said: “You go to those alcoholic meetings don’t you, because I’ve got a friend with a drink problem too.” I was mortified he thought I was an alcoholic. I told him I didn’t go, but I could take her to the AA meeting. At the meeting, someone gave her a leaflet with questions to see if you have a drink problem. I mentally ticked off yes to virtually every question.
So I went to an AA meeting and have not had a drink since then: November 2007. I found a bunch of people who didn’t know me, yet knew the illness in me perfectly – and they were willing to love me and care for me until I could love myself.
I learned what had driven me to drink and what the causes were of my unhappiness and problems. Today I am a caring and loving person. Most of my six children have never seen me drink and they have a father who adores them. My life today here living in Spain is a gift.”
AA is located along the entire Costa del Sol and there is a meeting with friendly people who will understand your problems somewhere near you every day.

ss Facts ss e l e Us Nov ey are us!ele 5th As alwaybsutthamazing
Remember, remember the fifth of November…
The gunpowder plot was supposed to kill king James I. The job Guy Fawkes had in the Gunpowder Plot was to guard the 36 barrels of gunpowder that had been placed in a basement underneath the House Of Lords.
If Guy Fawkes had managed to light the 2,500kg of gunpowder underneath the Houses of Parliament, he would’ve caused damage within a radius of almost 500 metres. King James I announced that the 5th November should be the day that people always celebrate that the Gunpowder Plot didn’t happen.
Whilst involved in the Gunpowder Plot, Fawkes called himself John Johnson. This is the name he gave when he was arrested.
The name “bonfire” derives from the term “bone fire”; in the Middle Ages, these types of fires were usually set up in order to burn bones. Up until 1959, it was illegal to not celebrate Bonfire Night in the UK.
The first recorded fireworks display in England was at the wedding of King Henry VII in 1486.
The word for firework in Japanese is “hanabi” which actually means “fire- flower.”

Adele exposed Singer Adele, who has recently launched her first song in six years, has lifted the lid on life after splitting with her former husband Simon Konecki. The Tottenham native, 33, spoke candidly as she chatted to Greg James on Radio One about starting fiery rows with the father of her son. Adele was frank about being confrontational with charity CEO Simon — with whom she shares eight-year-old son Angelo — after radio DJ Greg quizzed her on the inspiration for her new hit named Easy On Me. Sharing her inspiration for her songwriting, she said: "I was guilty of starting arguments with Simon after we split up, but I won’t say about what.” The first track from Adele's new album is filled with hints at how she orchestrated the split from Simon, and the reasons why she had to end their union. In the song, she says: "Go easy on me, baby, I was still a child.”
Dead serious It’s not unusual to start thinking about your funeral plans early to ensure that you’re prepared - after all, burials can be expensive. But it is unusual when Kris Jenner talks about buying wall mausoleums and testing out coffins in a Keeping Up With The Kardashians episode. Kim and Khloe seem to like the idea of a mausoleum, and even suggest that they want their own lake and moat surrounding it. “We want a moat so no-one can steal our bodies,” says Khloe. As the episode comes to a close, they visit a business that creates custom coffins, and we see Kris “test one out” and get comfortable.
Solo Mix? Little Mix's remaining members are all said to be keen to push on with their solo projects when the band's tour comes to an end in the spring next year. It's reported that this desire to go it alone by Jade Thirlwall, 28, Perrie Edwards, 28, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, 30, could spell the end for the hugely successful girl band.
The news comes after the original band was reduced to three following Jesy Nelson's decision to quit last December. The 30-year-old's exit caused a huge stir with the former pals no longer following each other on social media.
However, it now looks like the other girls in the group could also follow in Jesy's footsteps and leave the band behind them - at least for the time being.

Winning smile John Bishop has said he beat Alan Carr to a part in Doctor Who due to his better teeth. The comedian joked that the reason that he got the job instead of Alan was down to winning BBC bosses over with his smile. He said: "That is why I got the role!" John has become the Doctor's newest companion in the latest series, however he has made it clear that he doesn't want to become a 'comic character as opposed to a real character' so he won't be playing for laughs like he is used to.
Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor made her comeback in the spooky Halloween episode.
A source told The Sun that the girls have been open about their future away from the band and are having lots of meetings about what could happen.
"Some of them have already done management deals," the source said. "Leigh-Anne has signed up with DuaLipa’smanager, Jade is cutting her teeth as a songwriter and presenter, while Perrie is working on other things too. "The plan is to see out commitments, then turn to solo projects almost immediately."

Brits In Spain - Are They Coming Or Going?
As I have mentioned in previous articles, the Dutch and Belgians are the stars of the show in terms of buying and renting property in Andalusia presently. But what about the Brits – after all, the Brits have been coming to the shores of our adopted country for many decades. Has Brexit really kicked them out, are they really leaving in droves? I don’t think so! The ‘Brits in Spain’ facebook site, set up by the British Embassy in Madrid, asked that question and most people agree that this is a myth. There are around 380,000 Brits registered as residents in Spain, with a sharp rise of applications just before Brexit. This is the highest figure recorded! So are they leaving in droves or staying?
When I take my clients out to view properties, one thing I always hear is, why are all the vendors British and are they leaving because of Brexit? The answer, on the whole, is no! One thing is very clear. 20 years ago, many newly retired British people chose to sell up and move out to Spain. They were the ‘boom’
93
years, with property prices rocketing in this little niche market. Unfortunately, that horrid thing called ‘getting older’ happens. We all hate it but we can’t stop it. And suddenly, before they know it, they are 75 or 80 years old and sense tells them to sell up their beloved country houses and move either to towns or the coast, or back to the UK. Looking at my sales statistics, the Brits are beginning to buy properties again, but mainly either holiday homes, for short stays, or they are already resident here and are downsizing or moving areas. Now, with it clear that new Brits coming over CAN, in most cases, join the national health service as residents, we are all hoping that ‘fresh British blood’ will be booking in to buy properties and settle in Spain once again in future years. In another first, and due to the ingenuity of Jane Howard who has done a fantastic job at organising fund-raising events when it seemed that nothing was possible due to Covid, for the first time the Costa Animal Society (CAS) will be having a Christmas Fayre on 20 November from 10:30 until 14:00. Many local artistans will have stalls offering unique items that will be perfect for Christmas gifts or stocking-stuffers. Drinks: The Somerset Cider Brandy Company
97
Over recent decades, Julian and Diana Temperley have been reviving the productions of Cider Brandy. This ancient art has gained much recognition and the resulting, exceptional productions, can be found in many restaurants and venues. The West Country can be justifiably proud of their fruits and cider productions – now appreciated around the world. The family-run farm grows over 40 different varieties. Vintage cider apples include Dabinett, Kingston Black and Stoke Red, with the juices being fermented in 150 year old oak vats. The cider is then distilled in copper stills.
bottle fermented ciders have many ‘devotees’. Burrow Hill Bottle Fermented Dry Kingston Black (8.0% vol) and their Bottle Fermented Medium Kingston Black (8.0% vol) are very much loved, with the latter being slightly sweetened with Kingston Black Ice Cider. Bottle Fermented Stoke Red (8.0% vol) is, again, full-bodied, with great flavour. Multi award-winning and very much appreciated by cider connoisseurs.
Somerset Apple Eau de Vie (40% vol) is a pure apple spirit and the raw material for Somerset Cider Brandy. Somerset Pear Eau de Vie (40% vol) is produced utilising 100% traditional perry pear varieties, to great advantage. Somerset Cider Brandy has several ‘options’ available, from 3 year old, 5 year old, 10 year old, through Alchemy, to the 20 year old. Smooth and rich in texture to the mouthfeel, this (as with every production) leads to the palate’s continuing enjoyment and sensation. All are 42%vol. The Cider Brandy range also includes XO (42% vol) and Shipwreck (43% vol), with its oaky, smoky elegance, following through.
their own and in cocktails. Tours and tastings are available or walk in the orchards and visit the Cider House, to sample drinks, amongst the nearly 200 year old vats. All products are available by mail order, too.
Still and sparkling ciders are extremely popular too, with their popularity growing yearly. The Burrow Hill productions certainly do not disappoint, in any way. Additionally,
Other productions include Ice Cider (11.5% vol), plus Apple Cider Vinegar and Liqueurs, such as Blackcurrant (16.6% vol) and Morello Cherry (17.5% vol). Liqueurs are great on

Two medical students were walking along the street when they saw an old man walking with his legs spread apart. He was stiff-legged and walking slowly. One student said to his friend: "I'm sure that poor old man has Peltry Syndrome. Those people walk just like that." The other student says: "No, I don't think so. The old man surely has Zovitzki Syndrome. He walks slowly and his legs are apart just as we learned in class." Since they couldn't agree they decided to ask the old man. They approached him and one of the students said to him: "We're medical students and couldn't help but notice the way you walk, but we couldn't agree on the syndrome you might have. Could you tell us what it is?" The old man said, "I'll tell you, but first you tell me what you two fine medical students think." The first student said, "I think its Peltry Syndrome." The old man said, "You thought....... but you are wrong." The other student said, "I think you have Zovitzki Syndrome." The old man said, "You thought....... but you are wrong." So they asked him, "Well, old timer, what do you have?" The old man said, "I thought it was a Fart........ but I was wrong, too!" ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy and his wife are lying in bed and the neighbours' dog is barking like mad in the garden. Paddy says "To hell with this!" and storms off. He comes back upstairs 5 minutes later and his wife asks "What did you do?" Paddy replies "I've put the dog in our garden. Let's see how they like it!" ------------------------------------------------------------An undercover cop called at my farm in the sticks yesterday evening. “I need to inspect your farm for illegally grown drugs”, he said.
“By all means officer, just don’t go in that field over there”, I replied. The cop exploded, saying “Do you know who the f*** I am?! I have the authority of the government with me!”, he shouted before pulling a badge out of his back pocket, “Do you see this f****** badge?! This badge means I can do what I want and I’ll go wherever the f*** I want, have I made myself clear?!” I nodded politely, apologised, and went about my work. A short while later, I hear loud screams, looked up and saw the cop running for his life being chased by my angry bull. With each step, the bull was gaining ground and he seemed sure to be gored before he reached safety. The officer looked terrified and continued to run for his life. I threw down my tools, immediately ran to the edge of the fence and shouted at the top of my lungs, “Your badge, show him your f***** badge!” ------------------------------------------------------------I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason took my order first. 'I'll have the strip steak, medium rare, please.' He said, 'Aren't you worried about the mad cow?' 'Nah, she can order for herself.' ------------------------------------------------------------One year, a husband decided to buy his mother-in-law a cemetery plot as a Christmas gift. The next year, he didn't buy her a gift. When she asked him why, he replied, "Well, you still haven't used the gift I bought you last year!" ------------------------------------------------------------My wife sat down on the couch next to me as I was flicking the channels. She asked, 'What's on TV?' I said, 'Dust.' And then the fight started... ------------------------------------------------------------On holiday in Spain, I saw a sign saying ‘English speaking doctor’ I thought what a good idea, we should have them in the UK.

After her husband had gone to the pub for his darts match, the woman filled the bath and watched as the girl got undressed, she was surprised to see that the lass didn't have any pubic hair and told her husband when he came home. He didn't believe her so she said, 'Next week I'll leave a gap in the curtains so that you can see for yourself'. The following Monday, while the girl again got undressed, the wife asked, 'Do you shave?' 'No', replied the girl. 'I've just never grown any hairs down there. Do you have hairs?' 'Oh yes', said the woman and she showed off her great, hairy muff. When the husband got back in she asked, 'Did you see it?' 'Yes', he said. 'But why the hell did you have to show her yours?' 'Why not?' she said. 'You've seen it all before.' 'I know', he said, 'but the bloody darts team hadn't'! ------------------------------------------------------------After having dug to a depth of 10 feet last year, Irish scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago. Not to be outdone by the Irish, in the weeks that followed, an English archaeologist dug to a depth of 20 feet and shortly after, a story published in the Sassenach Morning Herald read: "English archaeologists, finding traces of 130 year old copper wire, have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network 30 years earlier than the Irish". One week later, the Banffshire Courier in Buckie, Scotland, reported the following:
103
"After digging as deep as 30 feet in his pasture near Clat, Aberdeenshire, Jock Broon, a self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely bugger all. Jock has therefore concluded that 130 years ago, Scotland had already gone wireless." ------------------------------------------------------------My flight was being served by an obviously gay flight attendant, who seemed to put everyone in a good mood as he served us food and drinks. As the plane prepared to descend, he came swishing down the aisle and said, 'Captain Marvey has asked me to announce that he'll be landing the big scary plane shortly, so lovely people, if you could just put your trays up, that would be super.' On his trip back up the aisle, he noticed this well-dressed and rather Arabic looking woman hadn't moved a muscle. 'Perhaps you didn't hear me over those big brute engines when I asked you to raise your trazy-poo, so the main man can pitty-pat us on the ground.' She calmly turned her head and said, 'In my country, I am called a Princess and I take orders from no one.' To which (I swear) the flight attendant replied, without missing a beat, 'Well, sweet-cheeks, in my country I'm called a Queen, so I outrank you. Tray-up, Bitch' ------------------------------------------------------------A little boy goes to his father and asks 'Daddy, how was I born?' The father answers, 'Well, son, I guess one day you will need to find out anyway! Your Mum and I first got together in a chat room on Yahoo. Then I set up a date via e-mail with your Mum and we met at a cyber-cafe. We sneaked into a secluded room, and googled each other. There your mother agreed to a download from my hard drive. As soon as I was ready to upload, we discovered that neither one of us had used a firewall and since it was too late to hit the delete button, nine months later a little Pop-Up appeared that said: YOU GOT MALE!
