times would revolve around such word-filled wonders. After all, I started reading at the age of two (thanks to my mum’s amazing teaching skills) and frequently read eight or more children’s books a day after visits to the local library. I loved books then and I still love them now. Not only do I write books as a fun way to pass the time, but I also edit them as my career / main business. So if you have a book inside you that’s fighting to get out there to the world, or if you have written one but it needs editing or publishing then check out my website, www.yourbookangel.com – I will promise to give it lots of Love, Light, and attention.

The Sentinella is eternally dedicated to Colin Checkley, the founder and editor of The Sentinel Magazine. May he rest in peace. (Born; 1960 Died; 2004)
My husband T, our baby Ty, and I have now been in Spain for three and a half months and we are staying until the middle of April, after which we return to Ojai, CA. For us, Ojai is home and it’s our sacred sanctuary where we feel we belong. However, we vow to make the most of our remaining days here in Spain.

Strange News When time allows, while here, we love visiting little Spanish towns and villages. And if we’re lucky we might even catch a feria or festival. Speaking of which, from the April edition we will include information on upcoming ferias and festivals in each edition of The Sentinella. They are a great way to let down your hair and have some fun, the local, Spanish way. And it will sure beat spending the day or night sitting on a bar stool. So keep your eye out for each month’s ferias in the area and who knows, one of us might even see you there…

Trump blow People have been venting their frustration at the Trump administration in many ways. Thousands took part in protests across the UK in opposition to the White House’s Muslim ban in scenes that have been repeated the world over since the Republican’s inauguration. But if you’re looking for a quick fix then you could, like 400 million others, visit www.trumpdonald.org The idea is simple but man, is it satisfying. It essentially involves blowing a trumpet in the billionaire’s face and watching his inscrutable hair blow in the wind. Of course, it won’t change anything, but it might make you feel briefly better about life. Danger kid A five-year-old boy was reportedly handcuffed and held in custody for five hours because he may have been ‘a threat to America’. The child was one of more than 100 people held at airports across the United States after Donald Trump signed an order banning travel from seven majority Muslim countries. At Washington DC’s Dulles Airport, the schoolboy was allegedly separated from his mother after he was deemed a possible threat. He was later identified to be a US citizen who lives in Maryland. Speaking after the incident, Donald Trump’s Press Secretary Sean Spicer said: ‘To assume that just because of someone’s age and gender that they don’t pose a threat would be misguided and wrong.’

Ape TV An animal reserve in the Netherlands is having apes respond to images of their fellow creatures on a tablet, under a programme dubbed ‘Tinder for orangutans’ by the Dutch press. To better understand their emotions, orangutans and bonobos at the Apenheul Primate Park near the central town of Apeldoorn are shown pictures of other apes, and researchers evaluate their responses – from neutral to aggressive. ‘After seeing the photos, the monkeys have to push a button on the screen,’ the spokesman for the park said. ‘In this way we can measure their capacity for reaction.’ The local De Stentor newspaper wrote: ‘Apenheul wants to know if female orangutans like Samboja, looking at pictures on a tablet, can show a preference for potential mates, before they are flown to the Netherlands.’ But the study had to be suspended for the orangutans after Samboja – a young female – destroyed a tablet showing potential suitors.

Funny Facts About Donald Trump The most topical man in the world..... 1. He is oversensitive about the size of his fingers. Several decades ago, an editor at Vanity Fair dubbed President Trump a “shortfingered vulgarian.” President Trump was so bothered by the statement that he reportedly sends photos of his hands to the editor at the magazine with his fingers circled in gold sharpie. Not only does he send these photos periodically, but he sent tracings of his hands to prove that his fingers were proportionate. 2. He had his own board game. Trump: The Board Game was released by Milton Bradley in 1989 after President Trump began his rise to success. He had become an icon in the media after using a loan from his father to create a multi million dollar real estate empire. The game allowed players to try and recreate President Trump’s rise to fortune, but it was also possible to lose everything, much like President Trump himself the year after the game was released. The game was a huge flop.

3. He offered former president Obama free golf for life. This fact is strange because President Trump really thought this plan would work. The billionaire offered to let Barack Obama golf for free at any of his golf courses. There was one catch though: Obama would have to resign from the presidency. Obviously free golf was not a large enough incentive to give up the presidency and Obama decided to instead remain the leader of the free world. 4. In 1991, he was billions of dollars in debt. In 1991, President Donald Trump owed billions to several different banks and had to divide up his wealth and assets in order to pay his debts. American Express took his yacht, Citigroup took an airline and several retail businesses, and Bankers Trust got control of the Grand Hyatt in Manhattan. None of the banks were happy to get the property and assets in the middle of the recession, but it was the only way to reclaim some of their money, even if they wouldn’t be able to make money from the properties for several years.

De Cotta Clausula Suelo Mortgage Floor Clause Claims Do you have a Mortgage on your Spanish property? Following a judgment of the European Court of Justice on 21st December 2016 you may be able to claim compensation from your bank if your mortgage contains a floor clause. Many Spanish mortgages were linked to a variable interest rate such as the European Borrowing Rate (Euribor). A lot of these mortgages had a floor clause which meant even when the official interest rate dropped to a very low level, the customers mortgage was stuck at the floor rate. This meant people were paying much more than they should have been. If you have one of these mortgages, you can now claim for the wrongly charged interest going back to 2008 in many cases. The losses could be €200 or more per month on a mortgage of €150,000 which means that claims could be as high as €20,000. On Friday 20th January, the Spanish government published draft legislation by way of a Royal Decree (Real Decreto) known as “Royal Decree 1/2017 of 20 January on urgent measures for the protection of Consumers in floor clause cases”. It sets up a scheme for claiming compensation with time limits for the banks to respond and settle. There are a number of conditions attached to the scheme. Banks have one month to publicise their complaints mechanism for these claims, with a deadline of 21st February. How-
ever some elements of the scheme mean that it is fairly toothless as there are no proposed sanctions on the banks for failure to comply. In some cases it may still be necessary to take the bank to court. Similarly the costs of the notary and registry in setting up mortgages can now be claimed from the banks in some cases. If you suspect that you may have a mortgage containing this clause and you are interested in claiming compensation, contact us for a free review of your mortgage deed on bankclaims@decottalaw.net, or call 951 315161 to arrange a consultation at one of our offices in Nerja, Coín or Mijas Costa. History Lesson Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May.... ...and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odour. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married. Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, Don't throw the baby out with the Bath water.. Houses had thatched roofs, thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof. Hence the saying. It's raining cats and dogs. There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house.. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence. The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying, Dirt poor. The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance way. Hence the saying a threshhold. (Getting quite an education, aren't you?) In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while. Hence the rhyme, Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old. Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors
came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could, bring home the bacon. They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and chew the fat.. Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous. Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or the "upper crust" . Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom of holding a wake. England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone house and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realised they had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be saved by the bell or was considered a dead ringer. And that's the truth...Now, whoever said history was boring!

Interesting Facts... Not much more than a decade after it declared independence following the collapse of the USSR, Latvia was welcomed as an EU member in May 2004. The move came just weeks after it joined Nato. Nearly 1 in 3 of Latvia’s two million residents live in the capital, Riga, sometimes described as the Paris of the North. An estimated 12.5 per cent of Latvia’s population were killed during the Second World War, the highest percentage of any European nation bar Poland and Lithuania. Around 54 per cent of Latvia is forest, making it one of Europe’s greenest countries. Latvia produces more female models per capita that almost any country in the world. Only Estonia, Iceland, Lithuania and Denmark rank higher. Latvia’s current flag design has been in use since 1280. Only Denmark’s has been around longer.

Eucalyptus oil comes from a fastgrowing evergreen tree native to Australia, with global eucalyptus oil production mainly from Eucalyptus globulus or "Blue Gum." It comes from the dried leaves of eucalyptus – a colourless liquid with a strong woody and sweet smell. There are more than 700 different species of eucalyptus in the world, of which at least 500 produce a type of essential oil. As early as the 1880s, surgeons were already using eucalyptus oil as an antiseptic during operations. Toward the end of the century, the oil was used in most hospitals in England to clean urinary catheters. The diluted form of eucalyptus oil is taken
orally for pain and inflammation of respiratory tract mucous membranes, coughs, asthma, bronchitis, sinus pain and inflammation, and respiratory infections. It is also used as an antiseptic, insect repellent, and treatment option for wounds, burns, and ulcers. Eucalyptus oil may help soothe your mucous membranes (such as for allergies and asthma), by adding a drop of the oil on an organic cotton ball and sniff it several times a day. Also recommended is to add a few drops to water or a nebulizer as steam therapy, or you can use a few drops in your bath water. Eucalyptus oil is also popularly used as a fragrance in perfumes and cosmetics, and is found in mouthwashes, liniments and ointments, toothpastes, cough drops, and lozenges. One very important reason why many individuals use eucalyptus oil is its ability to address mental exhaustion through creating a cooling and refreshing effect. As a stimulant, it helps eradicate exhaustion and mental sluggishness, and rejuvenates "the spirits of the sick."

In the late 1700's, many houses consisted of a large room with only one chair. Commonly, a long wide board was folded down from the wall and used for dining. The "head of the household" always sat in the chair while everyone else ate sitting on the floor. Once in a while an invited guest would be offered to sit in this chair during a meal whom was almost always a man. To sit-in the chair meant you were important and in charge. Sitting in the chair, one was called the "chair man." Today, in business, we use the expression/title "Chairman." The US interstate highway system requires that one mile in every five be straight. These straight sections function as airstrips in times of war and other emergencies. Our eyes are always the same size from birth, but our nose and ears never stop growing.

In the Great Fire of London in 1666, half of the city was burned down but only 6 people were injured. It was discovered on a space mission that a frog can throw up. The frog throws up its stomach first, so the stomach is dangling out of its mouth. The frog then uses its forearms to dig out all of the stomach’s contents and then swallows the stomach back down again. An ostrich’s eye is bigger than its brain. Food As Medicine Welcome to our Food As Medicine section... Each month we will be featuring different fresh food items and showing you how they help us all to stay healthy and happy. We'll also be suggesting how you can use your diet to address many common ailments that affect us all from time to time. No 3. Beetroot A Brief History‌ Native to Southern Europe, beetroot and beet leaves have been enjoyed by Mediterranean populations for millennia. Originally, beets evolved from the wild sea beet. The Babylonians ate the root around 4000 years ago, the Ancient Greeks only ate the leaves, preferring to save the roots for medicine and the Romans began cultivation, eating the leaves and regarding the root as an aphrodisiac. The Food... A variety of Beta Vulgaris, like chard and spinach, beets are also a member of the poisonous Nightshade family (Solanaceae). Sometimes called "Blood Turnips" they are commonly red but can also be golden, white or striped. Delicious and versatile, beetroot and beet leaves can be used in appetisers, soups, main courses, salads, desserts and even beverages. The Medicine... Beets are fabulous medicine for everyone with over 80 different nutrients. Also a natural nerve tonic, they are a healthy source of Vitamins A, B folate, B1, B2, B6, B12, C and K. Other nutrients include; amino acids, dietary fibre, niacin, flavonoids, beta carotene, iodine, iron, manganese, potassium, magnesium, sodium, sulphur, calcium, silicon, copper, boron and phosphorus. They are also rich in antioxidants. Beet and beet leaves can also be used in the treatment of: High Blood Pressure, Raised Triglycerides, Osteoporosis, Alzheimer's, Cataracts, Macular Degeneration, Anaemia, Indigestion, Diarrhoea, Constipation, Lumbago and Dandruff. The Side Effects... Reduces Birth Defects, Repairs DNA, Boosts heart health, Balances the body's PH, Helps prevent strokes, Rebuilds red blood cells, Contains anti-cancer properties, Weight loss, Cleanses liver, Feeds and cleans
kidneys and gall bladder, Renews damaged cells in the immune system, Purifies and improves blood circulation, Fights inflammation. Did You Know? Beetroot contains feel-good tryptophan, the same chemical that is present in chocolate and Aphrodite, the Greek goddess accredited her powers of beauty and love to the beetroot. For Expectant Mothers... If you're pregnant, beets should be your new best friend. Beets contain Vitamin B folate which in turn aids in the development of the baby's spinal column, DNA, and RNA. Vitamin B folate is extremely vital to all normal tissue growth. One cup of beets contains 136 grams of folate, and amazingly only 75 calories. A Word Of Warning: Beets contain oxalates and in excess can cause bodily fluids to crystallise. They can exacerbate kidney and bladder stones. See main advert below

Monthly Baking Blog By Susan Jane Scrumptious Sicilian Cannoli Inspired by a recent trip to Sicily where, delving into local back streets stumbling across exciting little eateries, cafes and street food stalls that were filled with such delicious sights, smells and aromas, we took a pit stop at a small cafe and there, stumbled across the lusciously sweet Sicilian Cannoli. A delicacy that can be eaten alone, with a coffee or even as a dessert. As you bite through the crisp wafer like exterior it cracks open and the heavenly cream cheese interior oozes into your mouth.... yummm heaven on a plate! I had a go at making these upon my return home and they are quite straight forward. Below is the recipe I used, so have a go. If you don’t feel up to making the cannoli shell exterior you could always substitute this and fill a small ice cream cone instead. This really is a very quick and easy dessert or treat to make for a quick family meal or an ‘al fresco’ get together with friends.
1. Add all the ingredients to a bowl and mix them together slowly and carefully, do not over beat or the mixture will separate and the mixture will become watery. Set aside the mixture. 2. **You can add whatever takes your fancy to the cream cheese mixture, - fruit, chocolate, fudge, nuts... I chose Oreo cookies, a personal favourite, they worked well and tasted delicious. Cannoli Shells 200g Plain flour 25g Cinnamon (optional) 25g Sugar 25g Margarine 1/4 cup of water with a teaspoon of whisky. 1. Sift the flour and sugar, then add the margarine and mix it. 2. Add the water/ whisky mixture. 3. Mix it with your hands until it makes a dough consistency. 4. Roll it out and cut 4 inch circles. 5. Wrap each circle around a wooden spoon handle or something of similar dimension to give you the tube shape. 6. Put a little beaten egg on the end to seal it. 7. Shallow dry in hot oil until light brown. 8. Remove from the oil, drain and cool.
Cannoli Filling 100g of drained Ricotta cheese (available in Mercadona called ‘Requesόn’) 50g Regular Cream Cheese 100g Granulated Sugar ** Crushed Oreo Cookies or Choc chips
9. Once the shells are cool fill each one with the cream cheese mixture.
Enjoy! Sue x

Do You Need Your Persiana Blind Fixing? Many Spanish houses have persianas (roller blinds) fitted to their windows. These roll up and down and are operated by a pull cord (actually a broad strap) which reels itself away into the receptacle at the bottom of the window. The main object is to keep the house cool, and you will see many spanish houses with their persianas shut during the heat of the day. They are fitted to come down over a window to give shade, security and privacy and are usually operated from inside the room by a cord or sometimes they are worked by an electric motor. The persianas will last for years, but when they go wrong they can be fiddly to fix. This is where Chris who has been living in the Axarquia area for just over 2 years and before for a year in La Cala, he is a plumber by trade, but like most plumbers is an all round handyman and has

All About Down Under The questions below about Australia are from potential visitors. They were posted on an Australian Tourism Website and the answers are the actual responses by the website officials, who obviously have a sense of humour. Q: Does it ever get windy in Australia? I have never seen it rain on TV, how do the plants grow? (UK). A: We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around watching them die. Q: Will I be able to see kangaroos in the street? (USA) A: Depends how much you've been drinking. Q: I want to walk from Perth to Sydney - can I follow the railroad tracks (Sweden)? A: Sure, it's only three thousand miles, take lots of water. Q: Are there any ATMs (cash machines) in Australia? Can you send me a list of them in Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville and Hervey Bay? (UK) A: What did your last slave die of?
A: No, we are a peaceful civilisation of vegan hunter/gatherers. Milk is illegal. Q: Please send a list of all doctors in Australia who can dispense rattlesnake serum. (USA) A: Rattlesnakes live in A-meri-ca which is where YOU come from. All Australian snakes are perfectly harmless, can be safely handled and make good pets. Q: I have a question about a famous animal in Australia, but I forget its name. It's a kind of bear and lives in trees. (USA) A: It's called a Drop Bear. They are so called because they drop out of Gum trees and eat the brains of anyone walking underneath them. You can scare them off by spraying yourself with human urine before you go out walking. Q: I have developed a new product that is the fountain of youth. Can you tell me where I can sell it in Australia? (USA) A: Anywhere significant numbers of Americans gather.
Q: Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Australia? (USA) A: A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe. Aus-tra-lia is that big island in the middle of the Pacific which does not... oh forget it. Sure, the hippo racing is every Tuesday night in Kings Cross. Come naked. Q: Which direction is North in Australia? (USA) A: Face south and then turn 180 degrees. Contact us when you get here and we'll send the rest of the directions. Q: Can I bring cutlery into Australia? (UK) A: Why? Just use your fingers like we do. Q: Can you send me the Vienna Boys' Choir schedule? (USA) A: Aus-tri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which is... oh forget it. Sure, the Vienna Boys Choir plays every Tuesday night in Kings Cross, straight after the hippo races. Come naked. Q: Can I wear high heels in Australia? (UK) A: You are a British politician, right? Q: Are there supermarkets in Sydney and is milk available all year round? (Germany)

Do I Really Have Sciatica? Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Typically, sciatica affects only one side of your body Sciatica most commonly occurs when a herniated disc, bone spur on the spine or narrowing of the spine (spinal stenosis) compresses part of the nerve. This causes inflammation, pain and often some numbness in the affected leg. Although the pain associated with sciatica can be severe, most cases resolve with non-operative treatments in a few weeks, such as remedial massage therapy, manipulation and stretching. If your pain is only located in the lower back and buttock, but there is no nerve sensation down the leg, you could be suffering from piriformis syndrome. Although this can eventually irritate the sciatic nerve, it means that you have a good chance of preventing this. Your piriformis muscle is a small muscle located deep in the buttock (behind the gluteus
maximus). It runs diagonally from the pelvis to the hip, with the sciatic nerve running vertically, directly beneath it. The causes of piriformis syndrome could be because of an irritation in the muscle itself or irritation of a nearby structure, such as the sacroiliac joint. It is common to think that the pain in the hip is structural and a lot of people think they need hip replacements when it is simply where the muscle is tight and pulling on its attachment to the joint. It is important to address the problem the minute you feel any discomfort. The longer you leave the muscle in spasm, the longer it takes to release it and can lead on to further problems like sciatica. Recommendations for treatment are continued stretching, remedial massage therapy and hot and cold treatment. By Amanda Jane Edge, Sports & Remedial Massage Therapist. BSChons, RSA. The Meaning Of March Zodiac signs: Pisces and Aries. People born in the beginning and middle of March are Pisces. Those born from March 21 on are Aries. March was called Hlyda or Lide in Old English, which is a reference to the loud winds.
March is the third month of the year in both the Julian and Gregorian calendars. It is the second month to have a length of 31 days. In the Northern Hemisphere, the meteorological beginning of spring occurs on the first day of March The bloodstone and aquamarine are the birthstones for March. The violet is the flower for the month of March.
The name March comes from the Roman god of war, Mars. For many years, March, being the start of spring, was also the start of the New Year. Much of Europe used March as the start of the year. Britain used March 25th as the beginning of the New Year until 1752. Easter is sometimes celebrated in March. March is the only month with three consecutive consonants in its name in English. MARCH is an acronym for the Medically Aware and Responsible Citizens of Hyderabad. More 20th century UK Prime Ministers had birthdays in March than any other month.

Wearing Wet Socks To Bed - The Benefits Flu is an illness that occurs all year round, however in the winter months between December and March people are more susceptible and many people will require hospitalisation Whilst we may try everything we can to prevent getting sick, like getting a flu jab, almost all of us will get a cold or the flu at some point this winter season. There are easy and effective at-home remedies to help you battle any cold and get better faster. Apart from geting lots of rest and drinking plenty of fluids, I bet you did not know that wearing wet socks to bed could help fight a cold! Wearing wet socks to bed can actually help to ease your cold symptoms and clear congestion by drawing blood to the feet, which dramatically increases blood circulation.” “Warm your feet in hot water. Then soak a thin pair of cotton socks in cold water, wring them out and slip them on just before going to bed. Put a pair of dry wool socks over the wet ones.
The wet socks should be warm and dry in the morning, and you should feel markedly better.”

s Now dcliffe b e l Ce en & Jacob Ra Th Daniel Daniel Jacob Radcliffe (born 23 July 1989 of Jewish/Irish parents) is best known for his role as Harry Potter in the film series of the same name. He made his acting debut at 10 years of age in BBC One's 1999 television film David Copperfield, followed by his cinematic debut in 2001's The Tailor of Panama. At age 11, he was cast as Harry Potter in the first Harry Potter film, and starred in the series for 10 years until the release of the eighth and final film in 2011. Radcliffe's parents originally turned down the offer, as they had been told that it would involve six films shot in Los Angeles. Warner Bros. instead offered Radcliffe a two-movie contract with shooting in the UK.
Attending school became difficult for Radcliffe after the release of the first Harry Potter film, with some fellow pupils becoming hostile, though he says it was people just trying to "have a crack at the kid that plays Harry Potter" rather than jealousy. Radcliffe began to branch out to stage acting in 2007, starring in the London and New York productions of Equus, and in the 2011 Broadway revival of the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. His recent films include the horror film The Woman in Black (2012), playing beat poet Allen Ginsberg in the independent film Kill Your Darlings (2013), science fiction fantasy Victor Frankenstein (2015) and comedy-drama Swiss Army Man, heist thriller film Now You See Me 2 and thriller Imperium (all 2016). In 2008, Radcliffe revealed that he has a mild
form of the neurological disorder developmental coordination disorder. The motor skill disorder sometimes prevents him from doing simple activities, such as writing or tying his own shoelaces. In August 2010, he stopped drinking alcohol after finding himself becoming too reliant on it. He has contributed to many charities, including Demelza Hospice Care for Children, and The Trevor Project for suicide prevention among LGBTQ youth, which gave him its Hero Award in 2011.

In the process of getting ready, Holly and her stylist soon realised there was an important part of her outfit missing – her shoes. Thankfully, Holly’s husband Dan and singer/presenter Rochelle Humes came to the rescue. "Dan said, ‘I saw Tess Daly’s stylist earlier’," Holly recalled. "We rang him, he asked Rochelle and she had a spare pair with her. They weren’t the right size but it was better than walking down the red carpet like a gazelle!” Luckily for Holly, her personally made Samuel Dougal gown covered her feet for most of the night, meaning no one actually noticed a thing. Toddler tantrums BBC Rio Olympics presenter Helen Skelton recently had her “worst day ever as a parent” after being asked to leave a playgroup with her son Ernie. Helen, who lives in Perpignan, France, with her professional rugby player husband Richie Myler and 19-month-old son, described the moment she was booted out of playgroup. "Worst day of my parenting life," she wrote on Twitter. "Asked to leave after 20 mins. Screamed the place down screaming his version of "mama let's go!" Constantly." Helen posted a selfie with a sleeping and sweet-looking Ernie - something he definitely wasn't hours before. Sexy Simon During live auditions at the London Palladium for the new series of Britain’s Got Talent, panel judge David Walliams made fun of music mogul Simon Cowell over his alleged secret rendezvous with former glamour model Katie Price. After a BGT hopeful told

them he would sing a song about a mistake he’d made, the Little Britain star turned to Simon and asked: “Was that the same mistake you made with Katie Price?” Cowell looked shocked at David’s comment before shaking his head disapprovingly and refusing to answer, according to The Sun. Later, Cowell denied having a secret liaison with Price after her ex-fiancé, TV presenter Leandro Penna, claimed it broke up their relationship. Penna said he confronted Katie after she allegedly spent the night at the X Factor boss' home in London in 2012. Nothing for widow Status Quo rocker Rick Parfitt, who died recently in Spain, changed his will just five days before his death, leaving his widow Lyndsay nothing. The legendary guitarist, who enjoyed huge success with the band and o n c e claimed to spend up to £1,000 a week on cocaine, was battling ill health towards the end. Lyndsay – who was dumped by Rick over the phone in October last year – stuck by the rocker's side and made sure he was looked after in his final months. She told MailOnline: "I’ve been such an idiot. Looking back at the way he lived I think I was a fool to think I could tame the wild man of rock, as he was known.” Although they had been living separately, the former couple ate breakfast together every morning and had apparently planned to spend Christmas as a family.

Courgettes – also known in some countries as zucchini or vegetable marrows – originated from the Americas and have a variety of benefits Though botanically the courgette is a fruit, it is considered a vegetable world-over. Both raw and cooked courgettes are great for the overall health of an individual. They are awesome for the heart. Courgettes contain good amounts of potassium that help reduce blood pressure. They also contain moderate levels of folate that breaks down amino acids like homocysteine that cause heart attacks and strokes. The considerable amount of magnesium helps in keeping blood pressure at a normal rate and the heart beat at a steady rhythm. Courgettes help in weight loss. They have incredibly low calories that make them a muchpreferred part of any weight loss diet. Substituting calorie-rich foods with a sizable portion of courgettes helps you in reducing the number of calories that are taken in. This makes it easier to burn off calories, thereby helping you lose weight. The fibre content helps in burning the fat in the body. Courgettes also help keep the body hydrated with their 95 percent water content. This gives you more energy and fewer headaches. They help to improve eye health. Their cousin vegetable, cucumber, is beneficial for reducing puffiness in the eyes. Similarly, courgettes when used externally, help to remove the puffy bags that develop around the eyes due to excessive water retention. The swelling around the eyes lessen due to the water-rich content. The carotenoid beta-carotene can be con-
verted into vitamin A in the body. The presence of vitamin A in the squash helps in active cell development in the eyes, which enhances vision and helps in preventing age-related medical conditions affecting the eyes such as macular degeneration. Courgettes guard against asthma and strengthen teeth and bones. Due to courgettes being a good source of vitamin C, they are considered a good food for fighting asthma. Vitamin C, a powerful anti-oxidant, plays a huge role in keeping the immune systems healthy and fighting respiratory problems. The anti-inflammatory properties help keep the lungs open and clear. Courgettes also contain calcium that helps the nervous system to function properly and gives strength to the bones and teeth. The high-fibre content in courgettes helps in lowering cholesterol. The high levels of vitamin A and vitamin C delay the beginning of atherosclerosis by keeping the cholesterol from oxidising the body’s blood vessels. Courgettes rid the body of excess toxins. This versatile summer squash is also healthy for the skin, giving it a glow and restoring its moisture. Recent studies indicate that courgettes assist in reducing symptoms of prostatic hypertrophy (BOH) or a condition in which there is an enlargement of the prostate gland. Complications with urination and sexual functioning can thus be checked. The anti-inflammatory properties can play a significant role in the protection against diabetes.

People Who Come And Go - Jane & David, Comares Thirteen years ago, a very excited couple took possession of a little house right at the top of a village itself right at the top of a mountain. Located close to the church in Comares, and with a roof terrace so high up you feel you are flying, they were ready to spread their wings to embark upon their new Spanish life adventure. Their house, an original village house with beams, interesting, quirky rooms, so ‘higgledypiggledy’ in a lovely, rustic, Andalusian sort of way, now became their own, making their own mark on it over the years. Today it is a very comfortable little home, with a very unique personality all of its’ own. For Jane and David, owning a part time home, and spending time in Comares has been an extremely enjoyable experience. They have had fun at the fiestas and walked some of the most challenging walking trails in the area, have met and made lasting friendships with the locals and leave now with many happy memories. Jane and David now have a new enthusiastic couple ready to take over their sky-high hide-
away. I asked them why they were now selling. “We feel it’s time for a change,” Jane tells me, “we have a holiday home in Wales as well and it is very convenient to where we now live, so we decided to close our Spanish chapter.” Jane explains that the advantages of owning a home in Spain have been all about the flexibility it offers you. “You are not constrained by having to travel only on certain dates, which helps to secure the cheapest flights. And you get to know everyone in the village, which is delightful.” When asked what advice they would give to the new owners, Jane tells, me “they should use the local bars and restaurants, join in at the village fiestas and get to know the locals, as Comares is a very friendly village. And get some Spanish lessons!” I am sure the local community will miss Jane and David but are bound to welcome the new owners of their little house at the top of the world! Where There’s A Will There’s A Way... In August 2015 the European Union passed a new directive called Brussels IV. Brussels IV sorts out the problem of succession law; basically, if you live in Spain, Spanish Succession Law applies to you In a nutshell, a Brussels IV allows you to put a clause in your Will to say which succession Law you would like to use. This is good because Spain and France have forced succession unless you have had this clause added to your Will, Spanish succession rules will apply to you and therefore any property or assets you hold in Spain will fall under Spanish Law. You may want this if so do nothing… but if you are from the United Kingdom you may prefer the succession rules of the United Kingdom to apply to your Spanish assets so that they are distributed after your death as per your choice… to your preferred beneficiaries. A succession Law that you, your family and more importantly the executors of your Will understand; this simplifies probate and the distribution of your estate after you have died. Which is really the whole point of this very simple legislation,
but it does mean that you probably need a new Will. La Vaqueria - Benamargosa It seems that more and more people are turning to self help and becoming more and more aware of what they eat. Here at La Vaqueria we have always served a large range of vegetarian food making sure that all of our ingredients are sourced locally whenever possible. We also find that modern trends require special dietary needs which we are also happy to cater for and have something gluten free or sugar free available most days...in fact our vegan carrot cake has become more popular that its traditional counterpart, it is that delicious! Every Sunday we have a themed, music, storytelling and wellbeing day which are proving to be very popular, with our all you can eat buffet and homely surroundings it makes for a relaxing day out. On wellbeing Sundays you can start the morning with some yoga if you like and enjoy a talk by different types of therapists after
your meal. Last month’s talk on crystal healing was so interesting that it has resulted in us putting together two workshops (see main advert for dates, etc.) when you can come and learn much more about this fascinating subject and enjoy a home made meal included in the price. Although, when I first opened La Vaqueria it was purely as an art centre and studio, it has now organically evolved into something much more. The art, the food, the quirkiness and the friendly charm seem to go hand in hand to create a lovely relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy some peace and quiet, a good chat, a browse and a memorable day out. For Summer, school holidays and visitors in general I have some fun ideas for arty workshops, so if you are looking for something different to do or something different to do with your visitors this year do not hesitate to contact me and we'll come up with a real treat!!! Dev Patel plays a real-life figure separated from his family in central India at the age of five and reuniting with them 25 years later in this uplifting drama that also stars Nicole Kidman and Rooney Mara. Lion is the incredible true story of Saroo Brierley and his tenacious quest to find the family from whom he was separated 25 years earlier. This film is a sober and yet profoundly stirring contemplation of family, roots, identity and home. The filmmakers begin in 1986, plunging us into the world of five-year-old Saroo. His mother works as a laborer, hauling rocks, while he and
his adored older brother, Gudd, supplement the poor family's meager existence any way they can. The delightful Pawar, an absolute screen natural, makes Saroo a happy kid eager to prove his strength by doing anything his brother can do. But they get separated when they go looking for work. The panicked Saroo climbs aboard a decommissioned train, falls asleep, and wakes up to find it moving, taking him 1,600 kilometers away to Calcutta. Years later, when Saroo goes to Melbourne to study hotel management, he meets American transplant Lucy (Rooney Mara) and a romance develops. But no less significant is his meeting of some Indian friends who ask about his background and plant the idea of tracing his roots by using newly available Google Earth technology. That process involves painstaking research around the minimal concrete information he can remember. Star Rating - *****/*****

St. Patricks Day Facts 17th March...
for brevity – its brief parade runs for 98 feet.
1. We should really wear blue Saint Patrick himself would have to deal with pinching on his feast day. His colour was “Saint Patrick’s blue,” a light shade. The colour green only became associated with the big day after it was linked to the Irish independence movement in the late 18th century.
8. There’s a reason for the shamrocks How did the shamrock become associated with Saint Patrick? According to Irish legend, the saint used the three-leafed plant as a metaphor for the Holy Trinity when he was first introducing Christianity to Ireland.
2. Saint Patrick was British Although he made his mark by introducing Christianity to Ireland in the year 432, Patrick wasn’t Irish himself. He was born to Roman parents in Scotland or Wales in the late fourth century. 3. The Irish take Saint Patrick’s day seriously As you might expect, Saint Patrick’s Day is a huge deal in his old stomping grounds. It’s a national holiday in both Ireland and Northern Ireland. 4. So do New Yorkers New York City’s Saint Patrick’s Day Parade is one of the world’s largest parades. Since 1762, 250,000 marchers have traipsed up Fifth Avenue on foot – the parade still doesn’t allow floats, cars, or other modern trappings. 5. Chicago feels lucky, too New York may have more manpower, but Chicago has a spectacle all on its own. The city has been celebrating Saint Patrick by dumping green dye into the Chicago River since 1962. It takes 40 tons of dye to get the river to a suitably festive shade! 6. It used to be a dry holiday For most of the 20th century, Saint Patrick’s Day was considered a strictly religious holiday in Ireland, which meant that the nation’s pubs were closed for business on March 17. (The one exception went to beer vendors at the big national dog show, which was always held on Saint Patrick’s Day.) In 1970, the day was converted to a national holiday, and the stout resumed flowing. 7. It’s the thought that counts Not every city goes all-out in its celebratory efforts. From 1999 to 2007, the Irish village of Dripsey proudly touted that it hosted the Shortest Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in the World. The route ran for 26 yards between two pubs. Today, Hot Springs, Arkansas claims the title
9. Cold weather helped Saint Patrick’s legend In Irish lore, Saint Patrick gets credit for driving all the snakes out of Ireland. Modern scientists suggest that the job might not have been too hard – according to the fossil record, Ireland has never been home to any snakes. Through the Ice Age, Ireland was too cold to host any reptiles, and the surrounding seas have staved off serpentine invaders ever since. Modern scholars think the “snakes” Saint Patrick drove away were likely metaphorical. 10. There’s no corn in that beef Corned beef and cabbage, a traditional Saint Patrick’s Day staple, doesn’t have anything to do with the grain corn. Instead, it’s a nod to the large grains of salt that were historically used to cure meats, which were also known as “corns.” 11. The world runs up quite a bar tab All of the Saint Patrick’s Day revelry around the globe is great news for brewers. A 2012 estimate pegged the total amount spent on beer for Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations at $245 million. And that’s before tips to pubs’ bartenders. 12. There are no female leprechauns Don’t be fooled by any holiday decorations showing lady leprechauns. In traditional Irish folk tales, there are no female leprechauns, only nattily attired little guys.

Jokes h a ha :) Let's take a moment to salute all those unsung hereos; Venetian Blinds. They walked up to the old petrol pump and the younger alien addressed it saying, Greetings, Earthling. We come in peace. Take us to your leader." The old petrol pump didn't respond. The young alien repeated his greeting, becoming angry at the rudeness and lack of response from the pump. Finally he drew his ray gun and said impatiently, "Greetings, Earthling. We come in peace. Do not ignore us this way! Take us to your leader or I will fire!" The older alien warned his comrade saying, "I don't think you should do that, it might be unwise to make him mad." "Rubbish!" replied the cocky young alien, then he aimed his weapon at the pump and opened fire. There was a huge explosion. A massive fireball roared towards them and blew the younger alien off his feet and deposited him a
burnt crumpled mess about 200 meters away in a dry creek bed. When he finally regained consciousness, he refocused his three eyes, straightened his bent antenna and looked dazedly at the older, wiser alien, who was standing over him shaking his big, green head. "What a ferocious creature!" exclaimed the young, fried alien. "He damn near killed me! How in the name of hell did you know he was so dangerous?" The older alien leaned over, placed a friendly feeler on his crispy friend and replied, "If there's something I've learned during my intergalactic travels....you don't want to mess with someone who can wrap his d*** around himself twice and then stick it in his ear! ------------------------------------------------------------Bloke at a horse race whispers to Paddy next to him, "Do you want the winner of the next race?" Paddy replies "No thanks, I've only got a small garden." ------------------------------------------------------------A policeman stopped me as I walked out of Curry's today. He said, "Before I perform a search, do you have anything sharp in your pockets?"
