m Fro Ed... the The past couple of months have really tested my driving ability — not to mention my sanity; sometimes I even had to remind myself what country I was living in. A recent trip to Roquetas del Mar is a case in point. It was the worst journey by far that I have experienced since living in Spain. A one-and-three-quarter hour drive, with gale-force winds I have never experienced before pushing my car all over the place, rain that completely flooded the motorway in minutes, all coupled with fog where I could not see a thing, took three hours. Plus, to top it all off, it was at night … needless to say it was NOT an experience I care to repeat any time soon. Typically, this was the first time I had travelled alone to my daughter’s gymnastics event and to say I was not scared was an understatement. I appeared to be the only crazy person on the motorway, but I had to get home somehow. On arriving home, my hands were literally stuck to the steering wheel, crusted in a position of gripping it like grim death for what seemed like hours on end. After prising them off, I was so, so very happy — and relieved — to be home in one piece. We are celebrating this month, though. As those of you who follow me on my personal Facebook page will know, our daughter ‘Charli’ does rhythmic gymnastics training in Malaga for 11 hours a week. She’s been doing this since she was just six years old — it’s her world, and she loves it.

Last month, she competed in the Campeonato de Andalucia for a place in the Campeonato de Espana … well, she only went and qualified! (BASE level, Cadete with the rope), To me, *proud mum alert* here, excited was not the word.

Strange News Then today, as I started writing this, we were sitting in a packed stadium in Guadaljara, 60km northeast of Madrid, waiting for Charli to perform. The sense of excitement inside was fabulous — hundreds of excited but very nervous children all waiting to do their very best to try and take the title of ‘Campeonato de Espana’ from hundreds of areas from all over Spain. To say I was not nervous for Charli was an understatement and I was far from alone in that — all around me were other parents keeping everything firmly crossed for their children to do well. I was so very proud when Charli, (bottom right in the photo), gave the best-ever performance that she has done with the rope, and came joint 94th out of 200 children. That may not sound like much but we were all chuffed to bits — she had got there purely through her talent and dedication and after all, it’s the taking part that counts. There is plenty of time ahead for her! :)
Done to perfection Firefighters recently spent an hour working to release a YouTube prankster who cemented his head inside a microwave. Jay Swingler, 22, and a group of friends mixed seven bags of Polyfilla before they poured it around his head, which was protected by a plastic bag inside the appliance. Their intention was to use the microwave as a mould. But by the time emergency services were called to the garage of a house in Fordhouses, Wolverhampton, West Mids, the group had already been trying to free him for 90 minutes. The friends had managed to feed an air tube into the man’s head to help him breathe, the Press Association reported. Watch Commander Shaun Dakin, officer in charge of the West Midlands Fire Service crew who responded, said: “As funny as this sounds, this young man could quite easily have suffocated or have been seriously injured. “Taking the microwave apart was tricky, because a lot of it was welded,” he added. “We video-called our technical rescue colleagues for advice and eventually managed to get him unstuck.”
You can read more about the event on page 98. If you have children interested in this sport I can really recommend Club Miralmar in Malaga. On another note..... 19th May will see Prince Harry and Megan get wed. It sure will be a magical event! I do love a Royal Wedding! To find out more about the couple, the wedding, and where to watch it turn to pages 64 & 65

Sealed with a sole A fisherman almost choked to death when the Dover sole he was trying to kiss literally jumped down his throat, but he has refused to rule out kissing more fish in future. Sam Quilliam, 28, was left close to death after the fish he had just caught on Boscombe Pier in Bournemouth wriggled down his windpipe, causing a complete blockage. The angler turned blue as his catch cut off his... continued on page 6.

Strange News (Continued) Continued from page 4... air supply, while his desperate friends attempted CPR to keep him alive. When paramedics arrived on the scene, Quilliam was in cardiac arrest. Operations officer Matt Harrison, who attended the incident, said: “It was clear that we needed to get the fish out or this patient was not going to survive the short journey to Royal Bournemouth Hospital.” After six tense attempts with forceps, he was finally able to pull the 14cm Dover sole free from Quilliam’s throat. “I have never attended a more bizarre incident and don’t think I ever will – but we’re all so glad the patient has no lasting effects,” Harrison added. Speaking to the BBC, Quilliam said he had been “a bit shaken up” by the incident, but despite his near-death experience, the keen angler insisted he would “probably” kiss another fish in future. “Just a bit bigger — and not a sole,” he said. Carpool twist A new meaning was brought to the term "carpool" when a Florida mother let her blue
motor reverse into a swimming pool with her husband and daughter still inside. The woman was preparing to head out on a shopping trip with her family in Okaloosa County when she realised she had left her grocery money indoors. But her forgetfulness was to get worse, as she ran back for the cash without putting the handbrake on. The car slipped backwards into the nearby swimming pool but her family managed to escape safely and no injuries were reported.

that she no longer wished to return. The father has contested her right to do this, arguing that after the agreed period the children should have been returned. This situation is further complicated by the fact that young children can quite quickly acquire a new habitual residence, making it difficult to then return them and disrupt their educational and social life. Sadly, courts are often left with the judgement of Solomon, knowing that either course can cause further stress for the parents and children. Judges and the legislation all dictate that decisions must be made in the best interests of the child. That said, the majority of parents do reach agreements and as

Some Idiotic Acts Unbelievable!!!! My daughter and I went through the McDonald's driveway window and I gave the cashier a 5€ note. Our total was 4.25€ so I also handed her 25c. She said, 'You gave me too much money.' I said,'Yes I know, but this way you can just give me a euro coin back.' She sighed and went to get the manager who asked me to repeat my request. I did so, and he handed me back the 25c, and said 'We're sorry but we don't do that kind of thing.' The cashier then proceeded to give me back 75 cents in change. Do not confuse the people at MacD's. ------------------------------------------------------------My son went to a Mexican takeaway and ordered a taco. He asked the person behind the counter for 'minimal lettuce..' He said he was sorry, but they only had iceberg lettuce. From Bankstown, Sydney... ------------------------------------------------------------I was at the airport, checking in at the gate
when an airport employee asked, 'Has anyone put anything in your baggage without your knowledge?' To which I replied, 'If it was without my knowledge, how would I know?' He smiled knowingly and nodded, 'That's why we ask.' ------------------------------------------------------------When my husband and I arrived at a car dealership to pick up our car after a service, we were told the keys had been locked in it. We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver's side door. As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. 'Hey,' I announced to the technician, 'its open!' His reply, 'I know. I already did that side.' ------------------------------------------------------------Very very interesting, scientifically proven... You cannot stick your tongue out and look up at the ceiling at the same time, a physical impossibility. You didn’t try it.. did you?

Interesting Facts... Once home to several pre-colonial empires, Mali is one of the largest countries on the continent. For centuries, its northern city of Timbuktu was a key regional trading post and centre of Islamic culture. But this prominence has long since faded. After independence from France in 1960, Mali suffered droughts, rebellions, a coup and 23 years of military dictatorship until democratic elections in 1992. Today, Mali is one of the poorest nations in the world. Around 70% of Mali’s population earns less than a dollar per day and less than 10% of Malians earn more than $2 a day. Gold is mined in Mali’s southern region and generates the third highest total gold production in all of Africa, whilst Salt was once such a valuable commodity that people would trade a pound of gold for a pound of salt! Mali’s total population is expected to double by 2035. The average birth rate of six children per Mali woman is the third highest in the world.

A Little Won’t Hurt Me! Nicky Scott from Restaurante Cantueso in Periana explains the latest regulations regarding food allergies. Many readers will have seen recent headline cases such as the little girl on a Ryanair flight who collapsed and passed out due to the dust particles from a fellow traveller's peanuts or the chef who died after eating a takeaway curry. It contained peanuts instead of ground almonds. In the latter case the restaurant owner is in prison. Intolerances and allergies to certain ingredients is on the increase and the EU law introduced in 2014 was an attempt to protect diners from the consequences of eating any one of 14 known troublemakers. These include not only peanuts, lactose and crustaceans but others, less well known, such as lupin seeds. The law states that every food outlet must have an allergens menu and with stiff fines for those that don't bother. It is estimated that 1-2% of adults and 5-8% of children are affected. This equates to
millions of people throughout Europe with a food allergy, but does not include those with food intolerances. (Interestingly when people in the UK were asked about allergies 20% claimed to suffer)! An allergic reaction can be produced by a tiny amount of a food ingredient that a person is sensitive to. Symptoms of an allergic reaction can range from mild symptoms such as itching around the mouth and rashes, it can also progress to more severe symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, wheezing and and occasionally anaphylaxis. There is no cure for food allergy. The only way to manage the condition is to avoid food that makes the person ill, and always inform the restaurant before you order. In the past we have helped many families who come to Cantueso with children, who suffer most, and made sure we cook dishes for them that are safe to eat. No doubt we will also have diners again who tell us they are lactose intolerant and carefully select their starter and main but when they see Carmen's homemade deserts, they look thoughtful and say “well I suppose a little won't hurt” ! :) ¡Que aproveche! You’re As Old As You Look Have you ever been guilty of looking at others your own age and thinking, surely I can't look that old? Well... you'll love this one! My name is Alice Smith and I was sitting in the waiting room for my first appointment with a new dentist. I noticed his dental diploma, which bore his full name. Suddenly, I remembered a tall, handsome, dark haired boy with the same name had been in my secondary school class some 30-odd years ago. Could he be the same guy that I had a secret crush on, way back then? Upon seeing him, however, I quickly discarded any such thought. This balding, grey haired man with the deeply lined face was far too old to have been my classmate. After he examined my teeth, I asked him if he had attended Morgan Park Secondary school.
'Yes, yes I did. I'm a Morganner!' he beamed with pride. 'When did you leave to go to college?' I asked,he answered, in 1965. Why do you ask?' 'You were in my class!' I exclaimed. He looked at me closely, then the ugly, OLD, BALD, WRINKLED, FAT ARSED, GREY HAIRED, DECREPIT, B****** ASKED.. "WHAT DID YOU TEACH ???"

Land Rover Land Rover is 70 years old!! It's been 70 long years since the original Land Rover was introduced at the 1948 Amsterdam Motor Show. The story goes that the boxy shape was drawn in the sand of Red Wharf Bay by Rover's engineering director Maurice Wilks, and by now it's an outline anyone could draw with their eyes closed — the Land Rover and the later Defender derivative are that well known. Now, that figure has been stomped on the snow of the French Alps, as an artist specialising in snow as his medium has created a 820 foot Defender shape at La Plagne. The drawing made by Simon Beck is at an altitude of nearly 9,000 feet and Land Rover calls it the most remote Defender outline. That might indeed be the case, until Land Rover makes a Moon Rover. For Beck, it was a 10 mile jaunt to get to the desired location, up the scenic, snow-covered mountain side.
April 30 was also designated as Land Rover Day, to mark the 70th anniversary of the truck's unveiling in Amsterdam. A special celebration was held to mark the occasion, and the proceedings was broadcast online at youtube.com/landrover. Happy Birthday Land Rover!!

Magnetic Letters Found on the refrigerator one morning: My Dear Wife, You will surely understand that I have certain needs that you, being 54 years old, can no longer satisfy. I am very happy with you and I value you as a good wife. Therefore, after reading this letter, I hope that you will not wrongly interpret the fact that I will be spending the evening with my 18 year old secretary at the Comfort Inn Hotel. Please don't be upset - I shall be home before midnight. When the man came home late that night, he found the following letter on the dining room table: My Dear Husband, I received your letter and thank you for your honesty about my being 54 years old. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that you are also 54 years old. As you know, I am
a math teacher at our local college. I would like to inform you that while you read this, I will be at the Hotel Fiesta with Michael, one of my students, who is also the assistant tennis coach. He is young, virile, and like your secretary, is 18 years old. As a successful businessman who has an excellent knowledge of math, you will understand that we are in the same situation, although with one small difference - 18 goes into 54 a lot more times than 54 goes into 18. Therefore, I will not be home until sometime tomorrow.

It’s BBQ Season Barbecuing during the summer months is a tradition that many people look forward to all year long. Between the great food, good company and casual atmosphere, it's no wonder that barbecues are popular. Now that the weather is warm, it's time to host your own summer barbecue. By following these tips, you'll be able to host a party that your friends and family will be talking about for years to come.
formal make phone calls. If all of your guests are web savvy, try using an electronic invitation like those available at Evite.com. This way you'll be able to take a running inventory of who will be coming and who won't be able to attend. Make sure to have a backup date just in case you have some unexpected rain or the weather gets too hot.
You'll want to start your barbecue off right by planning it for a good time and day. Saturdays are a great day to host a barbecue, and you'll want to plan it for a time of day where it's not too hot. While lunchtime barbecues give you more time to hang out with your guests, it can be hot during that time of day. In Spain anytime from 4pm to 5pm is a good time to start a barbecue, especially during the summer months when it gets dark late at night. Send out invitations via social media, or make an event on facebook, if you prefer to be less

It’s BBQ Season (Continued) Barbecue potlucks are very popular. If you decide to make your party a potluck, make sure to assign food to people. Generally, one side dish or dessert per person is expected. As the host or hostess, you should provide the meat and drinks. Think about your guests' likes and dislikes when it comes to your food choices. For a large group, hamburgers and hot dogs work well. Smaller groups would appreciate steak or chicken. Make sure to offer some grilled vegetables or veggie burgers if there are vegetarians in the group. Activities are always popular at barbecues. Pools make for a lot of fun at summer gatherings, but if you don't have a pool there is still plenty that you can do to entertain your guests. Depending on the ages of the group that you are hosting, you can arrange anything from a (controlled) water balloon fight to classic outdoor games such as
croquet or badminton. Make sure to plan ahead for the comfort of your guests. If you won't have enough chairs or tables for everyone, rent some extras or ask guests to bring them. You can also provide for their comfort by placing citronella candles around your garden to ward off mosquitoes. Hosting a summer barbecue is a breeze if you plan ahead and keep your guests at the centre of your plans. Getting together with family and friends in our backyard is a great way to create terrific memories that will last for years to come. Just follow these simple steps and you'll have a party to remember.

Random Quickies :) Medical Update
Letter to bank manager
American Medical Association researchers have made a remarkable discovery. It seems that some patients needing blood transfusions may benefit from receiving chicken blood rather than human blood.
Dear Sir: One of my cheques was returned recently marked "insufficient funds". In view of current events in the banking market, does that refer to me or to you?
It tends to make the men cocky and the women lay better.
Yours faithfully.

Rad An abbreviation of 'radical' - a term made popular by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Ever Tried Scuba Diving? If not, why not?
SCUBA diving is a fun and exciting adventure sport suitable for adults and children aged eight to? (although children under 12 are limited to pool only here in Spain) Diving is great fun. It can help relieve stress and allow you to escape to another world — the wonderful world of underwater. Diving has been proven to help youngsters with their school work and even with discipline issues; it can also help anyone to improve their overall fitness. You do not have to be an Olympic athlete to scuba dive, so whatever your age or ability, speak to our professional team. We have training programmes to suit your timescale and budget. These range from guided introduction with our caring instructors to professional training which could lead you to join our team of instructors and share your knowledge and love of the underwater world with others. As a professional myself, I have never forgotten my first scuba adventure, or the time I shared my knowledge with others. The most common reaction after a scuba dive is WOW! There are many options for people to learn to dive. You can sign up for a course while on holiday — usually an intense three or four-day programme — or take more time with weekly classes. You can choose to learn one on one with a professional or with friends or family. You can even learn with a group of future friends. When choosing a dive professional, opt for
one who holds a professional licence from an approved agency, with the relevant approval from government authorities. ITDA is a new company in Competa but has been training divers worldwide for over 20 years. We moved from being a UK company to becoming a Spanish SL. We are the only training agency which covers all aspects of diver training, from entry level scuba and technical diving up to professional instructor, commercial diving, public safety diving and medical programmes from first aid to hyperbaric medic. Whether you are just starting your adventure or want to further your diver or first aid training, come and talk to our friendly staff in our Competa office, or contact us by phone or email. Weekly programmes in Competa feature three to four-hour sessions including CPR first aid with training, certification and materials from only €45 euros… book now! Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Wedding Day their vows at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle at 12.00 midday. At 1pm, the royal couple will travel through Windsor in a carriage. Windsor will be cordoned off and people will have to go through full body scanners to get to the town as part of the royal wedding security measures. Windsor Castle is the same church Harry was christened in when he was three months old. Harry and Meghan have invited 2,650 members of the public to the grounds of Windsor Castle to watch the couple arrive and the carriage procession.
Prince Harry, aged 33 is 6th in line to the throne, born on 15th September 1984 at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London. He is the second son of Charles the Prince of Wales and Diana, the late Princess of Wales. Although peope call him Harry, his full name is Henry Charles Albert David of Wales. Meghan Markle, aged 36 is an American Actress, best known for her role as Rachel Zane in legal drama Suits. Meghan isn’t her first name, the actress was actually born Rachel Meghan Markle. The wedding of the year will take place on Saturday, May 19th with the Dean of Windsor, and The Archbishop of Canterbury will officiate as the couple make
They include a serviceman injured in Afghanistan, a teenager who campaigns to raise awareness of difficulties for deaf people and a mother who uses the arts to help people with mental health issues. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have not invited US President Donald Trump, the Obamas or even Prime Minister Theresa May to the royal wedding, it has been revealed.

The Royal Wedding Of The Year It was widely believed that due to diplomatic pressure, the couple could invite Donald Trump, despite Meghan being an outspoken critic of the US President. However sources suggest that as Prince Harry is not a direct heir to the throne, there is no need for the formalities of inviting world leaders. Prince Harry will be sixth in line to the throne by the time of the ceremony and sources say the event is being treated as a family wedding rather than a state occasion. The royal family will pay for all the main parts of the wedding, such as the service, flowers, music, decorations and reception. It has been announced that floral designer will provide flowers that will include white garden roses, foxgloves and peonies. The flowers will be distributed to charities after the wedding. More than 100,000 people are expected to arrive in the town for the big day. The royal couple have chosen a lemon elderflower cake made by pastry chef Claire Ptak.
The ceremony will be televised and it has been confirmed that there will be a pool camera, allowing media to be able to run footage all day. The owner, Piyush, gave up his restaurant to go travelling and he was sorely missed. But now he has returned and opened a new Indian restaurant in Nerja called Indialucia which is situated where the Tuesday and Sunday markets take place. The restaurant has easy access with plenty of free private parking, which is a luxury in Nerja. The large terrace is ideal for dining under the stars with beautiful sea views, but above all you will get the same

Spinach — a food which gave legendary strength to the much-loved cartoon character Popeye — really is a remarkable vegetable.
Luckily, spinach is a great way to give your body the necessary Vitamin B boost it needs. The high level of thylakoid helps curb hunger cravings too.
Originating in Persia, spinach rapidly spread to become a staple vegetable to nations all over the globe, and has proved to be an excellent remedy for a number of ailments due to its nutrient-rich composition. In recent years, its popularity has grown even further, as studies into its nutritional make-up mean that more and more people are choosing to take full advantage of its proven health benefits.
Spinach is a densely rich source of potassium, which has been shown to regulate blood pressure and heart rate. Spinach also offers a healthy source of omega-3 fatty acids which also help provide your body with energy.
Due to both the high variety of nutrients and antioxidants in spinach, it is a great way to build up your immune system. As well as Vitamins A and C, there are lutein, zeaxanthin, beta-carotene and polyphenol antioxidants which stave off oxygen-derived free radicals. This powerful combination protects your cells against damage whilst simultaneously increasing your level of white blood cells which fight back against diseases.
The high levels of zeaxanthin and lutein in spinach are useful in promoting good eye health. They provide protective light-filtering capabilities and the ability to help prevent macular degeneration. These properties are also massively beneficial if you spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen.
A mere 100g of spinach also contains a whopping 604% of your daily recommended intake of Vitamin K, which boosts your neural activity and is important for brain health. If consumed regularly, it can be a great way to help fight off Alzheimer’s. Vitamin K also serves to strengthen your bones as it enables your body to better absorb calcium and keep levels steady, making it especially useful in aiding the development and growth of children. Research has shown that deficiencies in your daily intake of Vitamin B will lead to a lessened ability to perform well at high-intensity physical exercise. Most importantly, riboflavin, thiamin and vitamin B-6 are needed to encourage the energy pathways of the body, whilst folate and vitamin B-12 are crucial in repairing damaged cells and building up more red blood cells.
With around 2.7mg of iron for every 100g, spinach is also a densely packed source of iron, which helps prevent anaemia.
Not only is spinach good for pregnant women, it also offers a host of benefits to the child as well. Its high folate level is good for cell function and tissue growth, encouraging healthy nervous system growth whilst helping to prevent defects in neural tubes. Also, the way in which these two antioxidants are able to reduce the effects of UV light and free radicals makes it a great way to help fight against cataracts.

Advanced Cosmetic Enhancement By Leighann Pearson, Registered Nurse. Micropigmentation is a form of cosmetic tattooing, used for cosmetic and medical enhancement. It has become extremely popular in recent years and modern techniques can create ultra-natural looks. My own eyebrows had become very sparse after years of plucking and hormonal changes, so I decided that what I needed was perfectly groomed brows 24 hours a day. Eve came highly recommended so I decided to go ahead and I booked a consultation with her. The free consultation and patch test for allergies was carried out three days before the treatment, along with a very detailed explanation of the procedure, its healing stages and a discussion about my expectations. On the day of the procedure I was nervous, but Eve very quickly put me at ease with her professional and reassuring manner. After applying the numbing cream and waiting for half an hour, she then took measurements and began to draw shapes with her pencil — just like an artist. Next she mixed the colours to match my own hair and skin tone.
The actual process was mildly uncomfortable, but not painful. The pain is much less than that of having a tattoo — for me it felt no worse than a light scratch. A little less than two hours later I was all done. The skin felt a little tender but there was no discomfort and I was given in-depth information about aftercare. After a few weeks, the colour settled down and even without the top-up, my brows were absolutely perfect. There was some flaking, but it was not really noticeable to anyone else. A top-up four weeks later completed the process and I am highly delighted with the result. Eve is advanced level-certified by Dermace, the leading UK training academy, and she has undertaken advanced training in semi-permanent make-up, areola/nipple reconstruction (after mastectomy), scalp densification, scar disguising and microneedling. Here in Spain there is a professional governing body with whom Eve is registered www.asociacionmicropigmentacion.com If you are looking for a professional, caring, talented and knowledgeable technician, then look no further, Eve would love to help you look and feel amazing! Before You Buy That New TV- Speak To Sat Co We regularly talk to customers who have made mistakes when choosing a new TV… only to get it home and find that something is not quite right.
HDMI connector so you may need more! USB connectors are very useful with their ability to play and record other media such as films and music.
Firstly, do you really need a so-called Smart TV? If you are going to use it for all those internet apps and connecting to the internet for your emails and other downloads such as You Tube, etc., then the answer is “yes”. If not, save yourself a couple of hundred euros and buy a normal TV.
Many new TVs are fitted with a SPDIF socket which is for optical audio output and uses fibre optic cables to soundbars and other audio devices. It is very useful.
The next problem is how to choose one with the correct connectors. Many manufacturers are now leaving out the Scart connection and that means devices such as old DVD players will not be able to connect. Have you got the right amount of HDMI connections? Many TVs now only have one
When you get your new TV home and connected, then get out the warranty details and register online. Most TV companies now take the registration details and will come to your home if things go wrong. If, before you buy your new TV, talk to Sat.Co — we always say advice is always free. See main advert below

Director: Brad Peyton Rated: PG-13 Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Naomie Harris, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Joe Manganiello, Malin Åkerman Loosely based on a classic 1980s video game, Rampage tells the story of what happens when genetic modification research conducted in space, crashes into Earth and alters the DNA of three animals: an ape in a California wildlife centre, a huge wolf in Wyoming, and a crocodile in Florida. The albino ape, called George, has a special bond with primatologist Davis Okoye (Dwayne Johnson), with whom he taught and communicates with him via sign language. So when George grows into a King Kong-sized ape overnight, Davis knows
something is wrong. The ape manages to survives plane crashes, fires, explosions and as many bullets as the humans can fire at him. Davis confirms this strangeness when lab scientist Dr. Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris) arrives at the zoo and explains that the changes must be tied to research she did at her former lab, which is currently being run by greedy, evil siblings Claire (Malin Ackerman) and Brett (Jake Lacy) Wyden. Government agent Harvey Russell (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) shows up to take control, but things get truly horrific after the Wydens emit a powerful frequency to attract George and the supersized wolf and crocodile to the Wyden Labs headquarters in Chicago. Davis and Kate follow the animals' path in hopes of finding a cure that will stop the giant animals and rescue George. This movie won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, especially not those who are tired of mass city destruction. The special effects are the film’s strongest element. We get to see the monsters munching on aeroplanes and helicopters as if they’re chocolate snacks. Star Rating ***/*****

s Now on b e l Ce en & Nichols Th Jack American actor, producer, director and screenwriter Jack Nicholson is a three-time Academy Award winner and 12-time nominee. He is also notable for being one of only two actors — the other being Michael Caine — who have received Oscar nominations in every decade from the 1960s through to the early 2000s.
Nicholson was born on April 22, 1937, in Neptune, New Jersey. He was raised believing that his grandmother was his mother and that his mother, showgirl June Frances Nicholson, was his older sister. He only discovered the truth in 1975 from a Time magazine journalist who was researching a profile on him. He made his film debut in the B-movie ‘The Cry Baby Killer’ in 1958. His rise in Hollywood was far from meteoric, though, and he sustained his career for several years with guest spots in television series and a number of Roger Corman films, including ‘The Little Shop of Horrors’ (1960). Nicholson's big break came with ‘Easy Rider’ in 1969 and his portrayal of liquor-soaked attorney George Hanson, which earned him his first Oscar nomination. His film career
really took off in the 1970s with a definitive performance in ‘Five Easy Pieces’ (1970). Other notable work during this period includes leading roles in Roman Polanski's ‘Chinatown’ (1974) and ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest’ (1975), for which he won his first Best Actor Oscar. The 1980s kicked off with another career-defining role for Nicholson as Jack Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Stephen King's novel ‘The Shining’ (1980). A string of well-received films followed, including ‘Terms of Endearment’ (1983) — which earned him a second Oscar — ‘Prizzi's Honor’ (1985) and ‘The Witches of Eastwick’ (1987). He portrayed another renowned villain, The Joker, in Tim Burton's ‘Batman’ in 1989. In the 1990s, he starred in such varied films as ‘A Few Good Men’ (1992), for which he received another Oscar nomination, and a dual role in ‘Mars Attacks!’ in 1996. The actor's most recent roles highlight the physical and emotional complications one faces late in life. The most notable of these is the unapologetically misanthropic Melvin Udall in ‘As Good as It Gets’ (1997), for which he won his third Oscar. Shades of this persona are apparent in ‘About Schmidt’ (2002), ‘Something's Gotta Give’ (2003), and ‘The Bucket List’ (2007). The news is already out that Olly Murs could be returning as a coach on next year's series, but Will.i.am has hinted that he's ready to concentrate on other projects after six years in the big red seat. The Black Eyed Peas star – whose final act, 16-year-old Donel Mangena, lost out to Ruti Olajugbagbe in this year’s series climax – told The Star On Sunday that he's neglected his own music career since signing up for The Voice in 2012. In a candid interview, the 43-year-old admitted that he's got some big decisions to make in the coming months. He said: "Now I'm going to get emotional… I haven't had time to make music. The last record I did was before I did The Voice. “I need to take a deep breath, go into a quiet room, meditate on what I should be doing. If I'm going to work with other singers, do I have time to do The Voice again? “So although I love ITV, and it's been better on this channel —and I love this country because the people are awesome —I don't know if I will come back."

Oh To Be A Woman! A man was sick and tired of going to work every day while his wife stayed home he wanted her to see what he went through so he prayed: 'Dear Lord: I go to work every day and put in 8 hours while my wife merely stays at home. I want her to know what I go through. So please allow her body to switch with mine for a day.' God, in his infinite wisdom, granted the man's wish. The next morning, sure enough, the man awoke as a woman... He arose, cooked breakfast for his mate, awakened the kids, set out their school clothes, fed them breakfast, packed their lunches, drove them to school, came home and picked up the dry cleaning, took it to the cleaners and stopped at the bank to make a deposit. Went grocery shopping then drove home to put away the groceries, paid the bills and balanced the books. He cleaned the cat's litter box and bathed the dog.. Then, it was already 1pm and he hurried to make the beds, do the laundry, vacuum, dust, and sweep and mop the kitchen floor. Ran to
the school to pick up the kids. Set out milk and cookies and got the kids organised to do their homework. Then, set up the ironing board and watched TV while he did the ironing. At 4:30 he began peeling potatoes and washing vegetables for salad, breaded the pork chops and snapped fresh beans for supper. After supper, he cleaned the kitchen, ran the dishwasher, folded laundry, bathed the kids, and put them to bed. At 9pm he was exhausted and, though his daily chores weren't finished, he went to bed where he was expected to make love, which he managed to get through without complaint. The next morning, he awoke and immediately knelt by the bed and said: - 'Lord, I don't know what I was thinking. I was so wrong to envy my wife's being able to stay home all day. Please, Oh! Please, let us trade back.. Amen!' The Lord, in his infinite wisdom, replied: "My son, I feel you have learned your lesson and I will be happy to change things back to the way they were. But you'll have to wait nine months, though. You got pregnant last night"

Defrost Your Frozen Shoulder!! A lot of my clients come to me after having visited the doctors with shoulder pain and stiffness. More often than not, the doctor immediately diagnosed frozen shoulder, sometimes without any examination and then continued to prescribe rest and anti-inflammatories as the treatment. In my experience this line of treatment does work but is a very long healing process. So what exactly is frozen shoulder? Frozen shoulder is a condition where an individual will experience pain and stiffness in the shoulder and is not able to lift the arm over the head. Frozen shoulder causes stiffness and restricted range of movement in the shoulder. This condition is medically known as "adhesive capsulitis." Adhesive capsulitis is a specific condition where there is a slow onset of stiffness and pain in one shoulder due to inflammation and tightening of the joint capsule. The inflammation and tightening of the joint can be caused by many different factors but in the case of many of my clients it is from repetitive strain on the surrounding muscles
or an injury to the surrounding muscles that have had to be immobile for a length of time.
Massage treatments done regularly can help in alleviating the shoulder pain and loosening or relaxing the stiff shoulder muscles. Massage therapy is very beneficial in treating frozen shoulder as it increases the blood circulation to the injured region and also reduces the formation of scar tissue. Regular massage should be done to reduce the muscle stiffness. The pain and stiffness usually gets relieved after several massage treatments. Amanda Edge. Bsc hons. RSA. See main advert below

Axarquia Sports Pages Last week in Guadalajara Club Miralmar celebrated the National Championship Base level in Rythmic Gymnastics in Guadalajara Club Miralmar participated with 4 of their gymnasts in different categories. Lorena Lika performed in the Alevin age category and she made a very risky exercise and got a great score. Carla Ledesma was in the Infantil category and made a beautiful exercise with the ball, demonstrating all the work of the season and thanks to that she got a good result in her first National Championship. In the age category Cadete, Charli Knight made a lovely tango with the rope and demonstrated that even though it was her first National Championship she
performed like a veteran ending up in the middle of the table. (Photo above) Lucia Alcalá competed in age category Juvenil with the clubs and even though she made a couple of mistakes which are not typical of her, she ended up in a very good position in the rankings. Axarquia Sports Pages Bringing you the latest on whats happening in the sports world in Axarquia TorreTorrox Golf Society played their monthly competition at Anoreta Golf Course last month. Anoreta is the 18 hole, Par 72 course just out of Rincon de la Victoria which runs both sides of the motorway. Anoreta was the first golf course constructed in Axarquia and so dates back to 1990 hence it has some nice mature trees to get bogged down under. The course offers an excellent challenge for golfers of all levels with its varied and pleasant undulating greens surrounded by trees and water accentuating the natural beauty of the setting. The greens are all true and it was nice to see that the grounds staff have been keeping on top of cleaning up all the fallen leaves after recent winds. Congratulations to the winners on the day who where; Nigel Duffy who got closest to the pin on his 2nd shot, hence getting a signed cap from Tyrell Hatton who is currently ranked 28th in the world! The longest drive was taken by Les Pimlott who though being one of our more elderly players still manages to hit it a long way. Keith Evans being the legend that he is, came away with two prizes, closest to the pin and the ‘thanks for turning up’ prize! On the day Aarndt van Braak came in top place followed very closely by Shane Townsend and in third place keeping it in the family was Rob Townsend who was only beaten by his son on count back!
Last August was the first pool match between Kick Off Sports bar in Torre del Mar and Duende’s bar in Puente don Manuel Well sadly, since that first match which we, Kick Off, won we have lost the next six!!!! Yeah, I know not good. But all good things come to those who wait because at the end of March, we finally won our trophy back!!! And boy ‘o’ boy and how, I ask myself!!! The match began tightly contested 1-0 to us then 1-1. In the 3rd match something quite bizarre happened! Between Richard, Duendes and Alan from Kick Off, the game was well balanced with Richard with one yellow left, had just fouled. Alan started clearing a few reds and was left on the black when he asked how many shots he had left and Richard and I said “ONE LEFT” in unison. Bizarrely though Alan played the black softly to go near the pocket then addressed the table to play again!!! “STOP!” I shouted, “That’s it you’ve had your shots!!” Oh dear he had left Richard on to subsequently clear up. 1-2!! So if there is anyone out there who can teach Alan how to count to 2, then please make yourself known please?!
The next competition is the second Saturday in May, 12th at Santa Clara Granada, so if you would like to join us and play, look us up on Facebook and make contact to get your name down. FB: TorreTorrox Golf Society That, as it happened seemed to gel us together, because at the end of the singles, we had an amazing lead of 6-2! One more win in the doubles and the trophy was back!! We took it easy and the doubles ended up 2-2 so victory was ours!!! 8-4!! Another special thanks to Rachelle for putting on a delicious chilli, just the job! Are there any other bars out there that fancy a challenge? It would be great if you could join in! Give me a call, Tony on 664

People Who Come And Go: We Only Live Once... Maybe ! The other day I bumped into some ex clients of mine from the past. I was lucky enough to sell two of their beautiful country houses a while ago. They had sold up after having met here and married, and are now happily travelling Europe in a camper van and enjoying life to the full. Did they miss Spain, after having been here so long and having met, fell in love and married here? I asked them. Yes, of course! But they had had many happy years here, working together on renovations and pooling their creativity to do wonderful things with old properties. Now they had a new life, they told me, having bought an apartment in Germany which they are currently renovating. And there are so many more places to visit and things to see. It struck me how very important it is, especially when one is over the main hurdles in life (having kids, the daily grind of working and bringing up a family, moving through a professional career, mortgages and so on) to live life to the full, just like this couple, if you get the chance. For those who make the move to settle
outside their own country, to take that leap into the unknown and not only survive it, but flourish, this feeling is one that is with us all the time, maybe in a form much more visible and evident than those who have not. I think living here does give us new life, a new relish for living intently the precious years we have on this planet. And living life to the full doesn’t have to be white water rafting or climbing Everest (La Maroma, even if just to above Canillas, is good though!), but just enjoying every moment in this very special and privileged little corner of Europe, the sunshine, the rain and every little aspect of life while we have it. For all we know, we only live once‌Maybe! So if you have an experience you wish to share with me, or the readers, a life feeling, something special about life here, or life in general, do share it with me any time! And if you are buying or selling here, to enhance your life experience or to take you to a new chapter in your life, you know where to find me!! Art Gaucin Open Studios 2018 The Art Gaucin Open Studios weekends have become a well-known fixture of the art scene in Andalucia, with exhibitions of work by several Spanish and foreign artists. Now well into its second decade, the Art Gaucin Open Studios event is an opportunity to meet the artists, learn more about their work and techniques, and see and buy their paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs and ceramics. The event is set in the picturesque village of Gaucin, one of the famous white pueblos near Estepona and Ronda. This year, the Art Gaucin Open Studios will take place over two long weekends – Friday May 25 to Sunday May 27, and Friday June 1 to Sunday June 3 – and will showcase new work by Art Gaucin’s member artists as well as by guest artists Javier Machimbarrena from Spain and Gerrit Oppelland-Hampel from Germany. Launched more than a decade ago, Art Gaucin has built up a strong following both locally in Andalucia and overseas. Its long-established members include Jim Rattenbury, whose paintings and sculptures are in several private collections abroad, and Michael Roschlau, former Glasgow School of Art lecturer and artist whose works include lithographs, paintings and intricate clockwork wall sculptures. Art Gaucin’s roster of painters includes Joseba Sánchez Zabaleta, Ana Pellón, Nozomi Hatano, and Paddy Robinson. The group includes photographers Chris Klees and Vivienne Whiffen as well as ceramicists and sculptors Juan Antonio Sangil, Rosie Venables and Anna McGrane, Sebastian Fisher and Silvia Franco. With its warren of quiet, pretty streets, Gaucin is a delightful place to explore on foot. It has ancient castle ruins, offers spectacular views across the coast and towards Africa, and provides plenty of places to linger over a coffee, tapas or something more substantial while enjoying those panoramas as the village has several popular and celebrated restaurants. Local artisans will also be showing a selection of jewellery, blankets and other hand made crafts. With the upgrading of the road from Gaucin to the coast, access is faster and smoother – now just 45 minutes from Estepona and 40 minutes from Ronda. For the full list of artists, details of their works and of the Art Gaucin Open Studios event, please visit the website: artgaucin.com
