Wouldn’t it be great if summer was all year round? There would be no need to buy two wardrobes of clothes — in fact no need to buy many clothes at all. (Mind you, since when did “need” have anything to do with ladies’ clothes shopping? I was once told that we ladies look at the figure at the top of a credit card account and think “target”…. Not “limit”!) During summer, I generally live in my bikini in the house and shorts and t-shirts for venturing out. If this weather continued, there would be al-fresco dining all year round and no boredom arising at the weekends with nothing to do, as the beaches and most events are free...

Ok Kami, stop dreaming let’s get back to reality. Even though I do love the summer, I do especially love this time of the year too. I actually get quite excited about the thought of wearing cosy jumpers again, snuggling up on the sofa with a nice blanket and a cup of hot cocoa, watching a nice chick flick in front of a hot fire (OK, so dragging the gas bottles from room to room doesn’t excite me that much!)

With winter comes yet another festive occasion — Christmas, and it really doesn’t seem like five minutes ago I was writing my 2017 Christmas list. And now, in less than two months’ time, we are faced with the prospect of yet another year passing us by. What joy!
The Sentinella is eternally dedicated to Colin Checkley, the founder and editor of The Sentinel Magazine. May he rest in peace. (Born; 1960 Died; 2004)
Recently I read an article from money expert Martin Lewis who says, ‘Stop buying presents and warn friends not to expect Christmas gifts now.’ The savings guru has asked people to create their own ‘pre-Christmas no unnecessary present pact’ with friends and family, claiming that Christmas is no longer a

Strange News joyous occasion but purely a retail festival. Sadly, Christmas every year causes thousands and thousands of people to become unhappy with worry that they have to buy a multitude of presents and it will land them with a huge debt for the coming year. Some people even put off paying the main mortgage or utility bills. With half the presents that people receive being gifts they will never use, the question is asked — is it really worth it? Martin Lewis says it has become a gift-giving treadmill and it’s time to get off it. I have to say I totally agree. I say, ‘Buy sensibly and without pressure, have fun and when it comes, enjoy the real meaning of Christmas.’ So, on that theme, I’m not buying any presents for friends this year — I’m only buying for my family. I do hope this doesn’t sound ungrateful but please, please, all my lovely friends, don’t buy presents for me! Save your money or spend it on something more important — or why not donate to a deserving charity of your choice instead? That’s much more in the true spirit of Christmas, I think, and will also make you feel justly proud of yourself. Meanwhile, sit back and enjoy this month’s read! Have a great month x

Happy slapper A seal who slapped a kayaker in the face with an octopus probably mistook him for a rock, scientists have revealed. The incident was captured on a GoPro camera by a group of kayakers who were floating in the waters off Kaikoura on New Zealand’s South Island. Kyle Mulinder was paddling when the seal burst out of the water and whipped the stricken octopus straight in his face. The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research said the seal was probably trying to stun the octopus. He would have mistaken Mr Mulinder for a rock and attempted to bash the mollusc before eating it. ‘Seals will often try and get their prey out of the water and above the surface to gain the upper hand in a tussle,’ NIWA posted on Facebook. ‘Once out of the water, they will try flinging their prey against a hard object to stun it. ‘So to the seal, the kayaker seemed like a reasonable enough object.’ Mr Muliner said ‘My face happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.’ Crabs, anyone? A man has been arrested in China after stealing five crabs from a seafood restaurant — and shoving them down his trousers before trying to make a run for it. The eye-watering attempted theft by a 58-year-old father-of-two took place in the Fujian region.

Strange News (Continued) Lunar theory UFO hunters believe they have found an alien base on the moon after spotting a pyramid-like object on a Google map of the lunar surface. Conspiracy theorists were sent into a frenzy when the massive structure was spotted, concluding that the likes of NASA are covering something up. The strange moon-pyramid was spotted using Google’s search tool Google Moon. The co-ordinates to find the ‘monolith’ on Google Moon are 20° 48'45.54 "N 25° 59'50.89" W. In a video uploaded to YouTube by Argentinian Marcelo Irazusta, the man-madelooking structure seems to be an anomaly on the surface on the moon. A description from Mr Irazusta alongside the video reads: “A strange elevation of hundreds of metres in the middle of a plain of the Moon is a mystery that must be revealed. “Everything seems to indicate that it could be a non-natural structure. It is really awesome.” Some conspiracy theorists claim the moon could be occupied by aliens and that is the reason NASA has not returned since the
Apollo missions ended in the 1970s. However, others were not so convinced, claiming the anomaly was simply rendering issues from Google Moon. ‘Offal’ job If you think you’re having a bad day, spare a thought for a lorry driver who must have had an absolutely ‘offal’ one. He had been tasked with transporting a truck load of animal remains from an abattoir – a stomach churning job in any case – when the unthinkable happened. As he was travelling along the A30 in Monkton, Devon, two tonnes of the guts poured onto the road. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told Metro.co.uk: ‘Police were called when a lorry carrying animal remains had leaked its cargo onto the road. We had to close the road for cleaning.’ The clean-up operation lasted 18 hours.

De Cotta Law Why you need to register your holiday property It has recently been reported that one of the biggest portals for booking holiday rental accommodation - Airbnb - will not allow you to advertise your Andalucian property if you do not have a licence issued by the Junta de Andalucia – Viviendas con Fines TurĂsticos VFT. Many regions of Spain have brought in legislation to ensure that rental properties meet certain standards. Reports this week show that whilst 24,342 properties have been registered to date in Andalucia, there are thousands more requests pending registration.
substantial fines and the administration can order the closure of the property for a period of up to six months. It is important to get legal representation if a sanction is imposed. With the average spend of each guest coming to the region and staying in rental property at 2,500â‚Ź, it is worth seeking advice now if you wish to register your property and to have the advantages of advertising with all the major booking platforms. For more information call us on 952 527 014 or email us: info@decottalaw.net with Holiday Registration in the subject heading See main advert below
We are pleased to say that many of our clients are receiving their registration numbers and the system is working well provided you get professional advice to avoid pitfalls with licencing issues. Some town halls have been issuing a type of licence that has not been recognised by the regional authority. However, many of these teething problems are being resolved now. You need to know exactly what documentation is required when an inspection takes place. We can guide you through this and follow up on enquiries to ensure that your property and the documentation complies with the requirements. It is also important to understand the exact requirements and to follow up with the obligation of informing the Guardia Civil within 24 hours of the arrival of guests at the property. Sanctions for failing to register can result in

Mexico is a nation of incredible history, but now where affluence, poverty, natural splendour and urban blight rub shoulders.
Mexico is named after the aztec god, Mexitli. Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés conquered the aztec empire in May 1521 and named it Nueva España (New Spain). The present official name of the country is 'united Mexican States' (Spanish: Estados unidos Mexicanos) Mexico has more Spanish speakers than any other country. The poinsettia, the plant species of the diverse spurge family, is indigenous to Mexico. You will be sure to see plenty of these around Christmas time here in Spain! The native Habanero chilli pepper is one of the hottest in the world. It’s grown in the Yucatán Peninsula, and can pack a punch of 350,000 scovilles. In contrast, a pimento delivers a puny 350 scovilles. Speaking of hot, Mexico is situated in one of the most volcanically active regions on the planet, named the ‘Ring of Fire’. The area contains 75% of the world’s active volcanoes. The Mexico–united States border is the second longest border in the world & the most frequently crossed border in the world too.

Loo Rolls Disgusting reason you should never put loo roll on the seat in public bathrooms You might think that putting loo roll on the seat is more hygienic, but you're actually exposing yourself to more bacteria. This is why! Toilet seats are actually designed to repel nasty germs as their shape and smooth surface make it tricky for bacteria to latch on. "In fact, the top of a toilet seat is much cleaner than most people's kitchen sinks," Philip Tierno, clinical professor in the departments of microbiology and pathology at NYU Langone Medical Center said. He said that the type of bacteria found on toilet seats normally dies off relatively quickly. On the other hand, toilet paper has a rough texture and is designed to be absorbent, making it the ideal material for bacteria to latch on to. Studies show that with every flush, fecal bacteria can be disseminated into the air.
Since that sends fecal matter everywhere, it could easily land on the roll of toilet paper itself, especially as it's normally located right next to the lavatory. At home you can avoid this by flushing with the lid down, but public toilets don't always have seats. So when you layer up the toilet seat with layers of bog roll, you're actually exposing yourself to more germs - gross! The best option to avoid coming into contact with nasty bacteria is to squat above the loo, ensure you wash your hands. "No matter how contaminated your hands are, as long as you wash them properly—for 20 seconds, with soap, and getting under the nail bed—you’re fine," Tierno said. He also advises using a paper towel to open the door if you can. "The towel dispenser, door knob, all of that is contaminated grossly," Tierno added.

Hemp/Cannabis Superfood What is a superfood? By definition, it’s a food with high nutrient density and compactness. Some experts consider all green food to be superfood — just because of its green colour (chlorophyll is also called green sunlight or green blood). And me? My definition of a superfood is something that protects & preserves life. Hemp is definitely a superfood. The seeds contain a high proportion of proteins in the optimal composition for humans — 80% of polyunsaturated fatty acids with a perfect composition of Omega 6 to 3 (3:1) is a great support for our health. As the only edible oil — it is made from the seeds — it contains the medically effective gamma linolenic acid as a component that can be used to relieve and cure atopic dermatitis and allergies, internally and externally. It contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C and E, phytic acid, chlorophyll, beta carotene, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, magnesium and lecithin and zinc. It can regulate inflammatory processes, contribute to normal hormone development, strengthen the immune system, optimise brain and nerve function, repair and regenerate every cell in the body and stabilise blood pressure. We use hemp oil and the seeds in a cold
kitchen —a temperature of more than 50° destroys the valuable nutrients. They have a pleasant nutty taste and refine salads, vegetables, potato dishes and soups — even your morning cereals, including vegan “milk”. The oil also soothes the skin when applied directly to it and counteracts inflammatory processes — even sunburn. A spoonful of hemp oil is also helpful in cases of constipation. The entire plant contains over 400 substances, including cannabinoids, from which the active ingredient CBD (cannabinoid) is extracted. But it also has alkaloids — essential oils — and chlorophyll. So, what would happen if we enjoyed all these nutrients by eating the plant raw with all its ingredients? Using the green leaves in our smoothie, perhaps, CBD — the rediscovered active ingredients from the flowers – extraction takes place under heat. We find CBD naturally in our body, so the CBDs of the plant know exactly what to do to give us relief from pain, cramps and inflammation, as well as promoting a better immune system. Now it's your turn to judge. Is cannabis indeed a superfood?? By Renate Wilmer See adverts on these pages

Meson Mudejar In Archez Area´s first all plant-based (vegan) eatery opens in Archez A decade ago, London carpenter David Pankau lay in hospital, stricken at age 28 with terminal cancer: Hodgins lymphoma grade 4B. He was given about 12 months to live. Fast forward to 15 June 2018, when David and his partner Kinga parachuted into a world of risk-taking. They rented and opened Meson Mudejar restaurant and B&B, which has five double en suite residences (three with double and two with twin beds) in Archez. Meson Mudejar became the area´s first all plant-based eatery: no meat, fish, animal or dairy products. Meson Mudejar offers a varied menu of international dishes, featuring theme and curry nights at reduced prices. What motivated David and Kinga, both Polish, to find this new calling, offering creative tasty plant-based food as medicine? After surgery and
chemo in Poland in 2009, David vowed that he wanted to live, not die. But for five years, he suffered chemo side effects: liver pain, low energy and impaired memory. He told The Sentinella that listening to The Best Speech You Will Ever Hear by Gary Yourofsky on You Tube in 2014 prompted him to care deeply about the plight of animals as well as his own health. He immediately converted to a plant-based diet, scientifically proven to prevent weight gain, cardio-vascular disease, diabetes II and various cancers. As a vegan, David´s liver problem vanished, his energy level returned to pre-cancer levels and his memory sharpened. A recent PET Scan showed his cancer is arrested. David and Kinga offer group rates and other discounts of up to 20 percent. See main advert below

Church Notices (Gone Wrong) These sentences actually appeared in church bulletins or were announced during church services: Bertha Belch - a missionary from Africa, will be speaking tonight at Cavalry Methodist. Come hear Bertha Belch all the way from Africa. The fasting and prayer conference includes meals.
Don’t let worry kill you off - let the church help. Miss Charlene Mason sang, “I will not pass this way again” giving obvious pleasure to the congregation. At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be, “What is Hell?”. Come early and listen to our choir practice.
The sermon this morning: “Jesus Walks on Water”. The sermon tonight: “Searching for Jesus”. Ladies, don’t forget the rummage sale. It’s a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Don’t forget your husbands. The peacemaking meeting scheduled for today has been cancelled due to a conflict.

How To Intergrate Into Spanish Life This is how you intergrate quickly into how the Spanish do things 1. Buy one of those black bull stickers and fix it to the back of your car. It is said that The Guardia Civil are less likely to pull you over that way. 2. Wear jumpers and long trousers in the middle of summer. 3. Eat tapas, paella, churros and fish regularly. 4. At the beach don’t try and find your own space, instead plonk yourself within 5cm of someone else. 5. Eat your main meal of the day at around 3pm.
17. Make lots of noise. 18. Don’t stop at zebra crossings, in fact don’t even look before walking out onto the crossing and make the driver about to run you over perform the emergency stop. 19. Use your car hooter more. 20. Name your sons Paco, Antonio or Jose and your daughters Carmen, Maria or Ana. 21. Start smoking like a chimney. 22. Don’t leave tips in restaurants. 23. Buy a moped and take the silencer off, then use it at 5am and wake up the entire neighbourhood.
6. Say “Hola” to everyone you meet in the street, even if you do not know them. 7. Spit in the street, especially if this act involves sunflower seed shells. 8. Throw rubbish in the street even though there is a bin right next to you. 9. Drink San Miguel or Cruz Campo. 10. Very rarely say “Gracias”. 11. Hold up the supermarket queue by having long pointless but heated conversations with the cashier. 12. Barge other people out of the way at the market, just to get your oranges five seconds before the person who was meant to be before you. 13. Go to flamenco or salsa lessons. 14. Get used to eating bread dry or with olive oil.
24. If you are over 50 and female join a knitting club. 25. If you are over 50 and male sit around on benches all day with other men and spit a lot. 26. If you are a child insist on peeing on the roadside even though there are toilets in all the neighbouring cafes. 27. Pig yourself silly with cakes and icecreams at any given opportunity. 28. If you don’t have dark hair, dye it jet black.

Weird Inventions Not all inventions are boring, some are very absurd. Just take a look at this silly selection... Flying Chicken Plane - Just like it sounds, it’s a plane in the shape of a giant chicken.
Santa Detector - It’s a stocking with an alarm that sounds when the stocking is filled. Bird Nappy - Saves having to clear out the cage.
Automated Hot Dog Stick - It’s got a little cage on the end to keep the dog from falling into the fire.
Dining Table Dishwasher - Finished dinner? Just open the table and put the dishes in. Saves having to take a trip to the kitchen.
Self-warming Ice Cream Scoop - It’s got a little area to fix a little lighter into it. What a hot idea! Butter Stick - Saves getting a knife dirty.
Poodle Earrings - For the next time your dog wants to look classy. Sneaker with Hoop - Each sneaker has a tiny little basketball hoop on the back. Talking Dog Collar - With recorded messages, it sounds like your dog is talking! Sort of. Dad Saddle - For when little kids “ride horsey” on their dad’s back.
Time Pop - Combination watch and lollipop holder. Keep ticking and take a licking. Almost as bad as the Push Pop of the 90’s. Meat Goldfish - A meatie snack that can be eaten, or used for bait. Rain Masks - Protect your face during heavy rain, ice storm and hailing. It was the concept behind these funny looking masks (canada, 1939)

Uses For Vodka Other Than Drinking We all love a glass or six of this potent spirit from time to time, but believe it or not Voda isn’t only good for getting you merry quickly. Cure foot odour - Wash your feet in vodka. Toothache - Swish a shot over an aching tooth and allow your gums to absord some. Jellyfish sting - Vodka disinfects and alleviates pain (better than wee)! Relieve a fever - Using a flannel rub vodka on your chest and back. Treat an earache - Put a few drops of vodka in your ear and leave to set for a few minutes. Treat dandruff - Mix one cup vodka to two cups rosemary, let it sit for two days, then strain through a coffee filter and massage into your scalp. Allow to dry.
Cold sore - Apply vodka to dry out the cold sore. Mouthwash - Make your own with nine tablespoons of grounded cinnamon and one cup vodka. Seal in an airtight container for two weeks, strain through a coffee filter. Mix with warm water and rince your mouth. Improve your shampoo - Add a little to a 12ounce bottle of shampoo. The alcohol cleanses the scalp, removes toxins from the hair and stimulates the growth of healthy hair. Clean your glasses - Wipe the lenses with a soft clean cloth dampened with vodka. But go easy, or you may find the bottle is empty for when you fancy filling your glass with it!

Axarquia Solicitors Law Office DIFFICULTIES BETWEEN TOURISTIC APARTMENTS AND THE OWNERS’ ASSOCIATIONS One of the main concerns in the owners’ associations these last years is the increasing number of houses devoted by their proprietaries to touristic rental. This fact changes the daily cohabitation and affects to the rest of owners in the building since it is common to find that the expenses have increased due to the frequent and usually inappropriate use of the communal elements, services and facilities, and also due to the typical annoyances produced by the touristic activity. The owners’ associations are thinking about mechanisms which help them control the rise of this kind of rental. The Autonomous Communities, among which is Andalucía, have set rules to regulate both tourist accommodations and tourist rental properties. This fact obligates the proprietaries of a tourist apartment to fulfil a number of requirements. But as in many cases individuals ignore these duties; it is common that they receive notifications informing that an administrative inquiry which
proposes a high penalty has been initiated against them. Although the law gives to the owners’ associations the opportunity to ban the tourist use of any of the houses in the building, in practice it is something impossible to be undertaken. For example, all the buildings where the owners’ association has already created its regulation need unanimous agreement to carry the prohibition out, which means that 100% of the neighbours must vote the same. So in the cases where these tourist apartments already exist, it will be out of the question. In contrast, those who will be able to include this prohibition in their regulation are the owners’ associations created in new buildings. With regard to the inconveniences caused by tourists, the owner of the apartment is required to warn his guests to comply with the community’s norms. Even the President of the association can, on his own or a neighbour’s initiative, demand the immediate cessation of inconveniences making the proprietary and the guest aware of the filing of legal actions against them. In conclusion, this is a matter of current concern, far from being resolved, and that will certainly remain being a topical issue in the coming years as well as a fundamental point in the tourist sector legislation. For this reason, if this affects to you it is important to be assisted by an experienced lawyer who can advise you. Marbellasolicitors Group counts on a team of knowledgeable lawyers who can help you in this and many other kinds of matters. Please, do not hesitate to contact us and make an appointment in any of our offices without any kind of commitment. See main advert opposite

Greek Mythology If you’ve read Greek Mythology before you have probably found that it is a little on the strange side. Fascinated by its strangeness I thought it deserved a spill Starting with the Olympians, a group of 12 gods who ruled the Titans. All Olympians are related and named after Mount Olympus, where they live. Here are a few of the most odd: Zeus: God of the sky and ruler of the Olympian Gods. His weapon is a thunderbolt, which he hurls at those who displease him (I might get one of those, lol!) He is wed to Hera, but he is rather unfaithful, having had a number of affairs. Poseidon: God of the sea, who married Amphitrite. His weapon is a trident, which can shake the Earth and shatter any object. Poseidon is a greedy soul with a difficult quarrelsome personality.
Hades: Lord of the underworld, ruling over the dead. But apart from that morbid subject he is also god of the wealth, which can’t be so bad! He owns a helmet, which makes him invisible. Ares: Son of Zeus and Hera, but disliked by both parents. God of war, and as such considered murderous and bloodstained, but also a coward. Athena: Greek virgin goddess and daughter of Zeus. She has no mother as she sprang fully grown and suited in armour from the forehead of her father! As such she was Zeus’ favourite child. He even let her use his thunderbolt!

A-Z Of Spain Following on from The Sentinella’s journey through the alphabet to discover the joys of Spain. This month we take a look at what makes Spain ‘D’. Desayuno - They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and the Spanish must agree as they have two! Before leaving for work they eat a light bite of toast, biscuits or perhaps cereal, but come 10am just as all it’s actually quite tasty and very cheap. Homemade pates are also a popular ‘second breakfast’ choice. I wonder if they have tried our traditional English fry-ups?! Dulces - (sweet things) - Very sweet toothed are the Spanish. They love tucking into a nice pastry, or a fat slice of cake, usually smothered in chocolate or crammed with cream.
businesses are opening they scurry off for another breakfast. Most Spainards head to the local cafe and order huge coffees and toasted baps bursting with typical fillings of ham, tomato and cheese. Another favourite is mashed tomato on a pitufo bread with olive oil and salt,
Youngsters (and many adults too) regularly visit small sweetie booths (Kiosks) to purchase a range of colourful jellies and the like, not dissimilar to the good old Pic N Mix you find in the shops back in the UK, but they just don’t seem to taste quite as good out here. Then there is the ice-cream! There are tonnes of heladerias here in Spain, especially along the coast, and come the summer these are packed full of holidaying Spaniards, who indulge in huge glasses of the stuff containing different flavoured ice-creams and usually arranged in an enticing manner.

Celeriac (Apium graveolens var. rapaceum) is a variety of celery cultivated for its edible roots and shoots. The plant is widely grown and available, including in the Mediterranean Basin, Northern Europe, North Africa, Siberia, Southwest Asia and North America. It is edible raw or cooked, and tastes similar to the stalks of the common celery. It is of the same family as carrots and is related to celery, parsley and parsnips.
methyl-falcarindiol. Antioxidants find and eliminate cell-damaging free radicals that can turn healthy cells into cancer cells.
In addition to being tasty, celeriac also has important health benefits. Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Italians used it for medicinal and religious purposes. Scientists first wrote about it as food in the 1600s, and it remains popular throughout Europe.
Celeriac is a good source of manganese, an essential metal for human health. It is necessary for development, metabolism and the antioxidant system. One cup of celeriac contains 12 percent of the daily recommended value of manganese.
Celeriac is very low in calories. 100 grams of the root hold just 42 calories. This low-calorie nutritionally dense food is perfect for weight loss.
Celeriac could help fight cancer. It is an excellent source of Vitamin C. One cup of celeriac can give 21 percent of the daily requirement of Vitamin C. This acts as an antioxidant to remove toxins from the body and detoxifies it. Vitamin C can destroy free radicals that turn healthy cells into cancerous ones. Consuming foods that are high in vitamin C, such as celeriac, could also help lower the risk of high blood pressure by improving ascorbic acid levels.
It can also help improve bone strength. One cup of celeriac (156 grams) contains 64 micrograms of vitamin K or 80 percent of the daily recommended needs. Sufficient vitamin K consumption acts as a modifier of bone matrix proteins, improves calcium absorption and preventing bone loss and osteoporosis. Celeriac can help improve brain function. Vitamin K is essential for the production of sphingolipids, the myelin sheath around nerves. Myelin sheaths are vital for the proper conduction of nerve cells. Research studies suggest that it also has established a role in Alzheimer's disease patients by limiting neuronal damage in the brain. It contains many antioxidants. Members of Apiaceae family vegetables — such as celeriac — contain many antioxidants such as falcarinol, falcarindiol, panaxadiol, and
The root can help maintain a healthy blood pressure. Celeriac has a very high content of potassium and a low content of sodium, which may help reduce the risk of hypertension. One cup of celeriac contains 468 milligrams of potassium, compared to 156 milligrams of sodium.

Insurance Claims Here are some lines that actually appeared on insurance claim forms. Some are blatent lies, some couldn’t be closer to the truth and the rest - I can only gather - were written by school dropouts!
A pedestrian hit me and went under my car. I collided with a stationary truck coming the other way. The other car colided with mine without giving warning of its intention.
I was sure the old fellow would never make it to the other side of the road when I struck him.
My car was legally parked as it backed into another vehicle.
To avoid hitting the bumper of the car in front I struck a pedestrian.
I started to slow down but the traffic was more stationary than I thought.
The pedestrian had no idea which way to run as I ran over him.
The gentleman behind me struck me on the backside. He then went to rest in a bush with just his rear end showing.
The car in front hit the pedestrian but he got up so I hit him again. I saw a slow moving, sad faced old gentleman as he bounced off the roof of my car.
Coming home I drove into the wrong house and collided with a tree I don’t have. I told the police that I was not injured, but on removing my hat found that I had a fractured skull.

Lewis only wants to have a normal childhood but quickly realises he’s in for anything but that. His uncle is in fact a warlock, a man who practices witchcraft. When Lewis just wants to make a new friend and impress the popular Tarby Corrigan, Lewis accidentally awakens the dead in the local cemetery on Halloween releasing Isaac Izard from his tomb. Things quickly go wrong as the warlock's ghost and a horde of fantastical creatures are soon unleashed to wreak destruction on the town. s Now b e l Ce en & arisi Th Cliff P The name Cliff Parisi may not ring many bells, but the face of this much-loved actor has been instantly recognisable to TV and film audiences for almost 30 years. Parisi was born on 24 May 1960, of Italian descent, and is possibly best known for his roles as Rick 'Minty' Peterson in the BBC soap opera EastEnders, Hollyoaks as Walt and handyman and gardener Fred Buckle in the BBC period drama Call the Midwife. However, he has appeared in numerous TV programmes and films, making him one of our most successful and versatile actors. Parisi began his career in 1982 when he started touring the United Kingdom as a stand-up comedian, which he continued to do for the next seven years before being offered a bit part in the film Queen of Hearts in 1989. Interested in taking up acting, Parisi changed his vocation and after a series of bit parts, landed his first noticeable character: Lunchbox in the TV series Chancer. He was then given bigger parts on television, most notably in series such as Kavanagh QC, Bramwell and A Prince Among Men. After finishing Lunchbox, Parisi auditioned for what would be his most famous role: Minty Peterson in EastEnders. He was recommended for the part by close friend and EastEnders actor Steve McFadden. Since his inception into the soap opera in 2002, the public have seen his
character Minty form a close friendship with Garry Hobbs (Ricky Groves) and evolve from a cold-hearted landlord to a hapless unlucky-in-love mechanic and then to finding love with established characters Heather Trott (Cheryl Fergison) and Manda Best (Josie Lawrence). He made his final appearance on 21 September 2010, ending eight years on the show. In 2012, Parisi filmed a guest role with Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, playing the character of Walt. He also starred as a guest in the BBC drama Hustle, playing the character of Arnie. Parisi appeared in the 5th and final series of the British sitcom Outnumbered, playing a concerned parent. Since 2012, he has starred in the BBC period drama Call the Midwife, appearing as Fred. He has four children — one with his partner, BBC producer Tara Wyer, and three from previous relationships. He currently lives in Saffron Walden, Essex.

The 47-year-old and her husband Chris Hughes lost their son in 2011. Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda has now spoken out about their loss, revealing that she thinks of her late son when she watches her daughters Lexi, 12, and Hollie, six, playing together. Amanda told the Mirror: “When the girls are playing footy I imagine Theo out there with them. One of them is in goal, the other two racing around… and I wonder what he would look like now. “He’d just be going into Year Three, so a bit taller than Hollie. And Chris was a really cute little boy so I think he would look like daddy. But, in truth, Theo will always be a baby in my mind. Our precious baby boy.” Amanda opened up to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week, and has announced that she will be setting up Theo’s Hope, a fund to help provide bereavement counsellors at maternity units through children’s charity Tommy’s. Katy’s anchor Katy Perry has gushed over her love for boyfriend Orlando Bloom, calling him an “anchor” in her life. The Roar hitmaker told how her relationship with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor is now stronger than ever. The 33-year-old told Footwear News magazine: “He’s a great anchor in my life. “For some reason I attract people who are really real and call me out on stuff when I’m being cuckoo.” Perry also explained that she has spent the last year trying to focus on her mental health rather than rushing into another album after her 2017 release of Witness. She explained: “I've been trying to find the balance and not over-indulging. I’m just trying to stay grounded. “I love making music and I love writing, but I don't feel like I'm a part of a game anymore; I just feel like I'm an artiste. I don't feel I have to prove anything, which is a freeing feeling.” The news came after the Mail reported that 41-year-old Bloom has plans to propose to Perry.

Gary opens up Singer/songwriter Gary Barlow has said that his past battles with an eating disorder were due to a subconscious desire to "kill off the pop star". The Take That frontman has opened up about the health issues he suffered during the band's nine-year break in an interview on Lorraine, after discussing the heartbreaking loss of his daughter. "Nine years ago I stopped singing,” he told Ross King. “I just turned my back on it. I was trying to kill off the pop star. "I was eating away what a pop star looked like. I stopped dyeing the hair, stopped buying nice clothes — I just wanted to look the opposite, physically and mentally." After his weight soared to 17 stone, Barlow said he made the decision to change his life and start a healthy diet. "One day in 2003, I just went, 'No, I want to change and I’m determined that this is not who I’ve become," he said. "It only took a few years to get that low, but it probably took me 10 years to get back to who I wanted to be.”

The Great British Scone Debate Whether you pronounce scone like 'cone' or 'gone' has been hotly debated
to rhyme with 'gone'. It's fascinating to see where the divisions lie.
Scones are possibly the most perfect British baked goods you can get. Fluffy little cakes that can be served hot or cold, fruity, cheesy or plain, served with jam, cream or just butter. They're great.
Reddit user Bezzleford made the map using data collected by Cambridge University in 2016, where researchers examined the pronunciation of the word across the UK and Ireland
But a debate still rages on in the UK about how to pronounce the word scone - and it seems we still have not reached a consensus.
Looking at the map, it appears the issue is nearly as divisive among Brits as Brexit is. Much of the UK are yellow on the map, which means the area is split almost 50/50 on how to say the word. Most of Ireland and pockets of southern England and the midlands rhyme with 'cone' whereas huge areas of the north and Scotland rhyme scone with 'gone' How do you say it?
One person has created a fantastic map that illustrates the ongoing divide over the issue, tracking the spots where people say scone to rhyme with 'bone' and those who say scone

Sciatica: Part Two Sitting spinal stretch
Knee to opposite shoulder
Sciatica pain is triggered when vertebrae in the spine compress. This stretch helps create space in the spine to relieve pressure on the sciatic nerve.
This simple stretch helps relieve sciatica pain by loosening your gluteal and piriformis muscles, which can become inflamed and press against the sciatic nerve.
1. Sit on the ground with your legs extended straight out with your feet flexed upward. 2. Bend your right knee and place your foot flat on the floor on the outside of your opposite knee. 3. Place your left elbow on the outside of your right knee to help you gently turn your body toward the right. 4. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat three times, then switch sides.
1. Lie on your back with your legs extended and your feet flexed upward. 2. Bend your right leg and clasp your hands around the knee. 3. Gently pull your right leg across your body toward your left shoulder. Hold it there for 30 seconds. Remember to pull your knee only as far as it will comfortably go. You should feel a relieving stretch in your muscle, not pain. 4. Push your knee so your leg returns to its starting position. 5. Repeat for a total of 3 reps, and then switch legs. People Who Come And Go Looking for B&B’s!! A few months ago I wrote about the sudden influx of house hunters searching for a tourist business. Now, with the Summer out the way and the house hunters all flying over to search for a place in the sun, I am once again surprised and bemused by the flood of people from central and Northern Europe all looking to change their lives and set up Bed and Breakfasts. I only have to switch on my computer and look at my inbox and I have another two or three would-be b&b-ers popping up, in search of a dream and a new life! Speaking to other agents, they are all experiencing the same. The problem is there aren’t any! And those that do become available tend to be for sale at a higher value than most house hunters’ budgets. There are properties that can be adapted or converted, but always with one problem or another to deal with. And so, I am on the hunt for businesses already set up, or with potential! One of the problems with converting current places to such businesses is that to do this,
barns, garages, underbuilds or workshops need to be turned into accommodation and that is just not as simple as it was in the past. Rules and regulations on change of usage are tougher, and there is legislation on what services one can provide too, all things that need to be addressed. There is a huge difference between a b&b and tourist accommodation. Tourist accommodation, where one does nothing but provide the housing, (such as self catering units) merely requires a tourist licence. But B&B involves serving food and other services, bringing it into a completely different category which requires additional paperwork and approvals. At the end of the day, B&B is not as popular amongst the tourists as self catering, so I advise keeping things simple to my would-be entrepreneurs. If you have a property you are thinking of selling that might provide the potential for such a small business, now is definitely the time to get in touch! Dear Penny Agony Aunt Penny gives readers, advice, help and guidance through the minefield called life. Dear Penny.... I have a very embarassing problem. It’s my boyfriend, he smells. I have tried dropping subtle hints, but he doesn’t seem to be cottoning on. Sometimes when we go out I hear people whispering about his awful smell, but I don’t think he notices. What can I do to make him realise that he should invest in a decent deoderant? Desperate girlfriend. Penny says: Forget subtle hints. This lad needs to be told directly as he is clearly not the brightest of souls, (God bless). Drag him down the nearest chemist pronto and together find the strongest smelling deoderant you can find. Make sure he applies a decent amount every day. If he still pongs, then oh dear he really does have a problem. Book him an appointment at the Doctors to see if they can come up with a solution. Tip: bring a peg for the Doc’s nose if I were you!

Bizarre Happening Anyone want to take a shot at the odds of this ever happening again? For those who have served on a jury, this one is something to think about. Just when you think you have heard everything!
not loaded. The old man said it was a long-standing habit to threaten his wife with the unloaded shotgun. He had no intention to murder her. Therefore the killing of Mr. Opus appeared to be an accident; that is, assuming the gun had been accidentally loaded.
Do you like to read a good murder mystery? Not even Law and Order would attempt to capture this mess. This is an unbelievable twist of fate! At the 1994 annual awards dinner given for Forensic Science (AAFS), President, Dr. Don Harper Mills astounded his audience with the legal complications of a bizarre death. Here is the story: On March 23, 1994, the medical examiner viewed the body of Ronald Opus, and concluded that he died from a shotgun wound to the head. Mr. Opus had jumped from the top of a ten-story building intending to commit suicide. He left a note to the effect indicating his despondency. As he fell past the ninth floor, his life was interrupted by a shotgun blast passing through a window, which killed him instantly. Neither the shooter nor the deceased was aware that a safety net had been installed just below the eighth floor level to protect some building workers, and that Ronald Opus would not have been able to complete his suicide the way he had planned. The room on the ninth floor, where the shotgun blast emanated, was occupied by an elderly man and his wife. They were arguing vigorously and he was threatening her with a shotgun! The man was so upset that when he pulled the trigger, he completely missed his wife, and the pellets went through the window, striking Mr. Opus. When one intends to kill subject 'A' but kills subject 'B' in the attempt, one is guilty of the murder of subject 'B.' When confronted with the murder charge, the old man and his wife were both adamant, and both said that they thought the shotgun was
The continuing investigation turned up a witness who saw the old couple's son loading the shotgun about six weeks prior to the fatal accident. It transpired that the old lady had cut off her son's financial support and the son, knowing the propensity of his father to use the shotgun threateningly, loaded the gun with the expectation that his father would shoot his mother. Since the loader of the gun was aware of this, he was guilty of the murder even though he didn't actually pull the trigger. The case now becomes one of murder on the part of the son for the death of Ronald Opus. Now comes the exquisite twist... Further investigation revealed that the son was, in fact, Ronald Opus. He had become increasingly despondent over the failure of his attempt to engineer his mother's murder. This led him to jump off the ten-story building on March 23rd, only to be killed by a shotgun blast passing through the ninth story window. The son, Ronald Opus, had actually murdered himself. So the medical examiner closed the case as a suicide. A true story from Associated Press.

The Open Door - The Red Cross As part of its programme of social inclusion, the Spanish Red Cross (Cruz Roja), is shortly to launch an interesting new initiative in the Axarquia region beginning in Torrox Pueblo in November. It will be for any English speaking foreign residents living in and around the area who would like to meet new people in a friendly environment once a fortnight to enjoy a variety of social activities. For more details see the poster which will be distributed via local social and print media Richard Weale, a British Volunteer with the Red Cross, said “This is a new opportunity for anyone aged over 50 to come along and take part in a range of activities, for example, informative talks, quizzes, cookery demos, films, learn simple Spanish words and phrases, training in the use of Smartphones and other technology, celebrating fiestas and special events and our team of volunteers will shape the activities to suit everyone’s needs. Above all, it’s an opportunity to meet new
people and make new friends whilst having fun. We’re calling the project “The Open Door” because that’s exactly what it is, open to any nationality who are English speakers as all the activities will be in English.” To reserve a place or for more information please email Richard on 29094social@cruzroja.es

) : a h a Jokes h Thanks to MP for the following jokes... I was mugged by a thief on my way home last night! He said as he was pointing a knife at me, “The money or your life” I told him that I was married so had no money or no life. We hugged and cried together. It was such a beautiful moment. ------------------------------------------------------------An old prospector shuffled into the town of El Indio, Texas leading a tired old mule. The old man headed straight for the only saloon in town, to clear his parched throat. He walked up to the saloon and tied his old mule to the hitch rail. As he stood there, brushing some of the dust from his face and clothes, a young gunslinger stepped out of the saloon with a gun in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other. The young gunslinger looked at the old man and laughed, saying, "Hey old man, can you dance?" The old man looked up at the gunslinger and said, "No son, I don't dance . . . never really wanted to." A crowd had gathered as the gunslinger grinned and said, "Well, you old fool, you're gonna dance now!" and started shooting at the old man's feet. The old prospector, not wanting to get a toe blown off, started hopping around like a flea on a hot skillet. Everybody standing around was laughing. When his last bullet had been fired, the young gunslinger, still laughing, holstered his gun and turned around to go back into the saloon. The old man turned to his pack mule, pulled out a double-barrelled 12-gauge shotgun and cocked both hammers. The loud clicks carried clearly through the desert air. The crowd stopped laughing
immediately. The young gunslinger heard the sounds, too, and he turned around very slowly. The silence was deafening. The crowd watched as the young gunman stared at the old timer and the large gaping holes of those twin 12-gauge barrels. The barrels of the shotgun never wavered in the old man's hands, as he quietly said; "Son, have you ever kissed a mule's ass?" The gunslinger swallowed hard and said, "No, sir . . . but . . . I've always wanted to." ------------------------------------------------------------Stormy Daniels and Queen Elizabeth went to the Pearly Gates on the same day. They both met with an angel to find out if they would be admitted to Heaven. The angel said: "Unfortunately, there's only one space available in Heaven today so I must decide which one of you will be admitted.” The angel asked Stormy if there was some particular reason why she should go to Heaven. Stormy took off her top and said: "Look at these, they're the most perfect breasts ever created, and I'm sure it will please God to be able to see them every day for eternity.” The angel thanked Stormy, and asked Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, the same question. The Queen walked over to a toilet, pulled the lever and flushed it without saying a word. The Angel immediately said: "Okay, your Majesty, you may go into Heaven.” Stormy was outraged and asked, "What was that all about? I showed you two of God's own perfect creations and you turned me down. She simply flushed a commode and she got admitted to Heaven! Would you explain that to me?” "Sorry, Stormy," said the Angel, "but even in Heaven, a royal flush beats a pair, no matter how big they are."
