It’s that time of year again…the month of lurrrve! I’d always thought that Valentine’s Day was only to celebrate the romantic strand of love, but this year I’m celebrating the love I have for my baby boy, Ty. Whatever kind of love you choose to celebrate on Feb 14 may your heart open ever-wider and allow the love to stream in and out with ease. Back to Ty, they say our babies are our greatest teachers and I can now see the Truth in that. My biggest challenge with having a baby so far has been the feeding. And interestingly it's the area which has prompted me to remember one of life's biggest lessons... Breastfeeding was painful for me from the beginning - certainly not the way some women have described it - I'd expected it to be bonding, peaceful, pleasurable even. And so I felt disappointed and frustrated at feeling only excruciating pain, leading to tension every time Ty fed. Then one of the midwives suggested that I try to relax while feeding, deep breathing, and "going below the membrane," as she described it. She said that by totally relaxing my milk would flow easier leading to Ty not having to suck so hard, thus resulting in less pain. And then I realized that's true of life, too. When we relax (no matter what our current situation looks like - and with no tension present) everything is able to flow into our reality far easier, and we manifest at a much faster rate.... essentially we experience flow.

Strange News after giving a lot to certain people in the past. And as breastfeeding involves giving quite a lot there was a subconscious alert with that. They say awareness is curative. So lessons learned... ((And I'm happy to say that the pain is finally diminishing, and I'm now beginning to enjoy the process of breastfeeding and giving Ty exactly what he needs to be healthy :)

Night Owl A Louisiana police officer on an overnight patrol was forced to ditch his cruiser after an owl attacked him. Covington Officer Lance Benjamin was driving along when he suddenly felt something hit him on the side of his face. "So I'm thinking 'okay, maybe it was a football or something'. And then I felt some scratching on the back of my head and some pecking," he told New Orleans television station WVUE. Officer Benjamin briefly lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a ditch. "When I got out of the car, I saw the owl just chilling out in the car," he added. "I'll bet he got a hoot out of that!" Officer Benjamin's fellow patrolmen have not missed an opportunity to make light of the situation, giving their colleague a pink, stuffed owl that now sits on his dashboard. wrong Number British astronaut Tim Peake gave an unsuspecting woman a shock after dialling the wrong number and saying: "Hello, is this planet Earth?" Major Peake, who is spending six months on the International Space Station, has apologised and insisted it was not a prank call. After the gaffe he tweeted: "I'd like to apologise to the lady I just called by mistake saying 'Hello, is this planet Earth?' - not a prank call ... just a wrong number!" Britons were offered a glimpse of the ISS as it soared 250 miles above the earth – from southern England, it appeared in the West at about 4.24pm on Christmas Day.

De Cotta Law Good news – Tax reductions for non resident property owners We are very pleased to report a reduction in three important taxes for non-resident property owners in Spain. In moves to encourage property purchases and ownership the Spanish government has announced that from 1st January 2016 European citizens as well as those from Norway and Iceland will pay 19.50% instead of 24.75% for their non-resident property taxes. This will apply to the period from January to December 2015 with the declaration made in 2016 and is a reduction of 5.25%. Capital Gains tax is also to be reduced. For sales made after 1st January 2016 CGT will be 19%. The tax in December 2014 was 21%. There is a gradual reduction implemented for sales during 2015 - from 1st January 2015 to 11th July from 21% to 20% and from 12th July 2015 to 31st December 2015 to 19.50%. If your property was sold before 1st January 2015 a calculation will be used based on the coefficients applicable to the year of purchase. The other important reduction is on the tax paid on the rental of property. If you rent out a property in Spain EU citizens and those from Norway and Iceland will be able to declare the rental with a reduction of 5.25% from 24.75% to 19.50%. Deductions can be made for Community Fees, IBI local rates and some other expenses. A good number of non-resident property owners are now receiving tax demands and checks are being carried out where property is rented out. Some property owners who have not been making tax declarations may be keen to take advantage of these reductions so it will pay to act quickly in updating your tax situation if you own Spanish property. If you need information or a review of your tax position contact us on info@decottalaw.net If you are buying or selling property please contact us to arrange a free consultation on 952 527014

How Very Dare You!! Top Dirtiest Names in Sports: gregor Fuck The countdown begins with Italian basketball player Gregor Fucka. When Fucka's mother gave birth to Gregor in Slovenia on August 7, 1971, she could not have imagined that one day her little Fucka would be an Olympic athlete. Mother Fucka's husband, Gregor's father, is of Italian ancestry which allowed Gregor to become an Italian national and move to Trieste at the age of 19 to play in the Italian league. The 7-foot Fucka represented Italy at the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney and won the 2003 Spanish National Cup while playing for FC Barcelona. B.J. Johnson B.J. Johnson was a standout wide receiver for the Texas Longhorns from 2000 to 2003. While at Texas, Johnson set 7 freshman receiving records, underperformed as an upper-classman and was signed as a free agent by the Denver Broncos after graduation. In two seasons with the Broncos, 2004 and 2005, B.J. did not play in a single game. It is fair to say that B.J. Johnson sucks. Johnson, who is currently signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has a name composed of dual dick references. Pete LaCock Pete LaCock played 9 seasons with the Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Royals from 1972 to 1980 (although this card is from 1981, LaCock retired before the season began). Born Ralph Pierre LaCock in Burbank, California, Pete was a utility player who never quite packed any punch with the bat. Interestingly, LaCock's father, Peter Marshall, was the host of "Hollywood Squares" from 1966-1981. The elder LaCock, born with the LaCock name, changed his name to Marshall to pursue an acting career in Hollywood. His baseball-playing son kept the old name, LaCock, which, in French I believe means "the penis." Dean windass Dean Windass is a striker for Bradford City. The Englishman is known around soccer for his foul play. And with a name like Windass, foulness can only be expected. In November 1997, while playing against Dundee United, Windass earned himself 3 red cards. And in September 2006, Windass was accused of grabbing Cheltenham Town player John Finnigan by the nuts during a game. Windass, which I thought was the medical name of a condition I have from time to time, aims to be the all-time goal scorer in

Bradford City history. Though maybe a dirty player, he certainly isn't a stinker. Misty hyman Could there be a better name for a female swimmer than Misty Hyman? Since she was a little girl, Hyman was always in the water dreaming of swimming for the U.S. at the Olympics. Hyman broke out at the 2000 Sydney Olympics when she won a gold medal in the 200m butterfly. However, after her improbable victory, Hyman dropped off and failed to qualify for the 2004 Athens games. Hyman has since disappeared from Olympic swimming. She now teaches young swimmers proper stroke technique and has released a DVD called "Go Swim Butterfly with Misty Hyman." Rusty kuntz And finally, the Dirtiest Name in Sports is Rusty Kuntz. Kuntz played outfield for the White Sox, Twins and Tigers from 1979 to 1985. Rusty Kuntz, the adjective has dual meanings. The word "rusty" can mean "covered by or affected by rust" or, the definition I prefer in this case: "having lost agility or alertness; out of practice." When coupled with Kuntz, a homophone of (let's get it over with) the name means an out of practice vagina. And any guy reading this who has been married for a while or who is dating a girl who has been single for a while, knows about this.

No Need To Paint Now is the time to have the exterior of your property painted and not repeat the process until 2030. Exterior painting and decorating can be a real chore, many properties on the Costa del Sol due to the unpredictable and severe weather that is experienced at the end of the summer and beginning of spring have to be redecorated every 2 to 3 years. Also, due to poor building techniques, many properties suffer from black mould on the interior due to penetrating damp. Another annoying problem is the Sahara sand rain which gets deposited at least twice a year. In this modern day and age when there are many long life exterior home improvements such as UPVC windows, doors, and shutters etc, which can last for 20 years or more, why can't the same technology be applied to exterior masonry coatings?

Many people are unaware that there is a company called Andura based in Bicester Oxfordshire for over 40 years, who are a BSI registered company and many of their products come with the much coveted British Board of Agrement Certificates. No Need to Paint Costa del Sol are their exclusive agents. Their products are designed and proven to last in excess of 15 years to stop penetrating damp, still allow the walls to breathe and their coatings are fully washable and fade resistant. In these difficult times it pays to protect your property and especially not to have the costly re-decorating responsibility every few years. If you would like to make exterior, painting and maintenance a thing of the past, please feel free to give us a call for an entirely free of obligation survey or see advert opposite

Glad I Met You

Intoxicating Valentine

At first I wasn't looking for love. I wanted no one in my life, for I had totally given up. All I wanted was to hide.

My Valentine, you’re all I want; In you, I find joy and delight; You give me everything I need; I’m happiest when you’re in sight.

But for just a moment I gave you a chance. I let my guard down, One last try at romance.

I think of you both night and day; I’m drawn to you in pure attraction; When you’re not here, I ache for you, For your fulfilling satisfaction.

I never imagined that I would find all this and more. The best friend and lover, that one could ever hope for. A friend I can count on, to listen and understand. A lover, for me to hold, that is truly a good man. I love when you smile, and all the things you do. So I want you to know that you're my dream come true.

I dreamed of love like this, and yet, I never thought that I would capture The deep, exciting thrills we have, This intoxicating bliss and rapture. Please be my Valentine, and more; Be my life, my world, my all; Together we can be content, And share life’s pleasures, big and small.

I know in my heart now that no one else will do. Happy Valentine's Day Baby I'm so glad that I met you

Asbestos - Have You Been In Contact?

hAVE YOU EVER wORkED wiTh ASBESTOS?

obtain for them in full. I can also guarantee that all claims are dealt with by a qualified solicitor.

My name is Steve Woods and I am a solicitor based in Chester, UK, specialising in claims for asbestos related diseases. I have been dealing with these claims for over 25 years and I have been visiting people in Spain for the last four years recently having been to Competa, Benalmadena and Torremolinos.

I am happy to talk to anyone free of charge about their individual situation to see if a claim is possible. However if contacting me by e-mail please check your inbox and junk folders for my response.

If you are suffering with breathing problems it is important to have them checked out by your doctor. Investigations can show whether lung damage has been caused by exposure to asbestos and so it is important to make your doctor aware if you have come into contact with asbestos in the UK during your working life. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with an asbestos related condition or has breathing problems and has come into contact with asbestos in the UK please get in touch. You may be entitled to claim damages or benefits in the UK and I can help on a no win no fee basis. It does not matter if the person involved has died because a claim may still be possible. A change in the rules now enables a solicitor to agree with his client to take a share of any money recovered. A lot of solicitors now do this but I do not because I believe that my clients should receive whatever compensation I can

i can be contacted on 00 44 1244 340560 at info@woodslaw.co.uk or alternatively you can visit my website at www.woodslaw.co.uk

interesting Facts - Since ancient times, Greek, Etruscan, Celtic, and other cultures have thrived on the Italian Peninsula. Rome ultimately emerged as the dominant power, conquering much of the ancient world and becoming the leading cultural, political, and religious centre of Western civilisation. Italian inventions include the thermometer, the typewriter, the piano, spectacles, the ice cream cone and of course pizza! 95% of Italians are Roman Catholic, but only about 30 percent of all Italians attend church regularly. Italy has more hotel rooms than any other nation in Europe. More than 20% of Italy's population is over 65 years old - it's the highest percentage in Europe. There is concern over Italy's birth rate one of the lowest in Europe - and the economic implications of an ageing population. The average Italian consumes 26 gallons of wine a year.

More Than Just A Drink Uses for Vodka ... other then drinking To remove a bandage painlessly, saturate the bandage with vodka. The solvent dissolves the adhesive. To clean the caulking around bathtubs and showers, fill a trigger- pray bottle with vodka, spray the caulking, let set five minutes and wash clean. The alcohol in the vodka kills mold and mildew. To clean your eyeglasses, simply wipe the lenses with a soft, clean cloth dampened with vodka. The alcohol in the vodka cleans the glass and kills germs. Prolong the life of razors by filling a cup with vodka and letting your safety razor blade soak in the alcohol after shaving. The vodka disinfects the blade and prevents rusting.

Spray vodka on vomit stains, scrub with a brush, then blot dry. Using a cotton ball, apply vodka to your face as an astringent to cleanse the skin and tighten pores. Add a jigger of vodka to a 12-ounce bottle of shampoo. The alcohol cleanses the scalp, removes toxins from hair, and stimulates the growth of healthy hair. Fill a sixteen-ounce trigger-spray bottle and spray bees or wasps to kill them. Pour one-half cup vodka and one-half cup water in a Ziplock freezer bag, and freeze for a slushy, refreshable ice pack for aches, pain, or black eyes. Fill a clean, used mayonnaise jar with freshly packed lavender flowers, fill the jar with vodka, seal the lid tightly and set in the sun for three days. Strain liquid through a coffee filter, then apply the tincture to aches and pains.

Security for Rental Homes We all know that Spain has seen an increase in burglaries in holiday accommodation, according to the Foreign Office which is advising all travellers to make sure their accommodation has adequate security and that they lock all doors and windows at night or when they are out. Owners of rental holiday homes should feel responsible for the security of their guests. From the legal point of view, there is no obligation to take any measures. But as a responsible landlord who cares for their customers, we suggest getting in touch with us, to discuss solutions that fit your needs. Our solutions are easy to handle and respect the privacy of the holiday renters. Another major advantage is that you are always informed about irregularities while you are not around. You can even add an option to automatically turn the air conditioner off when your customers are leaving your rental, as they activate the alarm system? This information is brought to you by ¡PERFECT Alarm! SL, the professional experts for all your security needs. Here in the Axarquia you can find many satisfied customers who have foiled burglary attempts with our quality systems. Please mention The Sentinella when responding to adverts Iznate

Just a short drive up from the autovia and only a 10 minute drive from the coast is the mountainous village of Iznate. It nestles into the hillside at 303m above sea level and has the most incredible views to the north, east and west, with the mountain ranges of Sierra Tejeda (La Maroma) Sierra Almijara and Sierra de Camarolos marking the horizon, majestically towering over the lower vine covered hills. This area is famous for its scrumptious muscatel grapes, which make delicious wines and raisins and every August the village holds a festival to celebrate its main form of economy. As well as grapes there are local dishes to be sampled with music, dancing and lots of wine flowing all night long. Like many villages in the AxarquĂa, Iznate is full of narrow, steep streets and the houses literally cling together in a tight cluster. Eight centuries of Islamic occupation have shaped the architecture. Some of the streets have steps and others are just very steep inclines which seem almost impossible to ascend. Actually going up is not the hardest part providing you stop for breath occasionally! It is going down again that is the scary part as it is easy to slither and slide! Many houses have beautiful patios with a plethora of colours spilling over the assorted

AS2595

terracotta pots. There are balconies filled with plants of every shade of green imaginable. The women of the village all seem to have green fingers or perhaps it is something to do with the fact that they wipe the leaves with beer! There are three ways into the village, coming up from Benamocarra there is an entrance by the village garden complete with sturdy gym equipment put there to entice the villagers to exercise. Following on from here is the long main square with the town hall, several bars and a mirador with fantastic views. A steep street leads up to the church square, the Plaza de la Virgen de los Dolores, with the 16th century parish church of San Gregorio Vll and the Fuente de la Palsonada which has a little shield and two spouts, part of the towns architectural heritage. The second way in to the village is by taking the road up from Cajiz and after the Iznate sign there is an entrance which takes you down past the municipal swimming pool and the third way is up the steep concrete track from the river bed. You can drive quite easily along the dry river bed from Benamocarra village or beyond to Triana, Almachar and Benamargosa. For several years around 1570, the village was practically uninhabited with the expulsion of the moriscos (moslem converts to Christianity) who left for Tunisia and North Africa. The new inhabitants arrived from Antequera and Estepa but the economy was ruined with the outbreak of a phylloxera plague followed by the Andalusian Earthquake. These days Iznate is a busy, thriving village full of a good mixture of all nationalities rubbing along nicely together.

Linea Directa DO i NEED TO iNSURE MY VEhiCLE EVEN iF iT’S OFF ThE ROAD? Some insurance policies like medical cover are not compulsory, others such as fire protection for your property, are. Your vehicle however, must be insured at all times, even if it’s kept off the road in a garage. The minimum legal compulsory insurance is Civil Liability to cover any damage to or claims from a third party, resulting from your vehicle. The existing legislation (Royal Decree 8/2004) states that any car that is kept in Spain must be insured. Trailers and other special types of vehicles that weigh less than 750 kg and cannot be driven on Spanish roads are not required to have insurance. This also means that they cannot be parked on roads or kept on private land. if you own a vehicle that’s not insured you could face a fixed penalty from €601 up to €3,005, and your vehicle may be seized and immobilised. whY DO i NEED TO iNSURE MY CAR iF iTS kEPT iN A PRiVATE gARAgE The owner of a vehicle has a civil responsibility towards their neighbour and their property. Civil responsibility extends beyond car accidents on Spanish roads. If a vehicle, for example, kept in a communal garage, has a fire due to a short circuit, the owner will be responsible for any resulting damages to third parties. The owner will also be liable for a fixed penalty fine, the amount will depend on the gravity of the situation, the length of time the vehicle has been without insurance, and if this is a repeat

offense. iN whAT CiRCUMSTANCES iS iNSURANCE NOT COMPULSORY? If your vehicle has officially been temporarily or permanently taken out of circulation, for example it has been scrapped, then no insurance is required. If you own a vehicle that is not being used and you wish to avoid paying for insurance, then you can apply to have it temporarily taken out of circulation. However, to do this the vehicle needs to have passed its MOT. If the MOT has expired, then it must be taken again and passed, before applying. hOw CAN i AVOiD ANY FiXED PENALTY FiNES The best option is to ensure you have adequate insurance protection for your vehicle at all times. Once your vehicle complies with Spanish regulations, you can then decide what the future use of your vehicle will be, and whether or not to keep it in circulation or take it out. If you require an insurance policy for your vehicle, you can contact Línea Directa on 902 123 161. They can supply you with a fast and efficient quote for either third party or fully comprehensive insurance. we hope the information provided in this article is of interest. if you would like to contact Línea Directa please call 902 123 161 More information on Línea Directa online at www.lineadirecta.com

Just Say It!!!!!! Here are 5 ways to tell your spouse, “I love you.” 1. On small pieces of paper, write down every kind of kiss that you can think of (examples: passionate, on the cheek, etc.). Then fill an inexpensive red felt bag with your “kisses” and give it to your spouse. Ask your spouse to pull several pieces of paper from the felt bag, and then give your sweetheart whatever kind of kiss is described. 2. Make a book about why you love your spouse and why you are thankful for him/her. The woman who sent this idea wrote, “He loved it! Said it was the best gift he has ever gotten. And it helped me to focus on the things I love about my husband and not his shortcomings.” 3. Take your sweetie on a scavenger hunt. Ask him/her to answer riddles to find the clues to items that you placed somewhere around town. The last item should give instructions that lead to your Valentine’s Day activities. 4. After enjoying a candlelight dinner for two at home, give your spouse a massage and watch a romantic movie. The woman who suggested

this wrote, “Last Valentine’s Day when I got home from work, my husband… had our bedroom set up with a candlelit table for two. He is NOT a cook but he made an awesome meal … grilled steak, sautéed shrimp in lemon, garlic, and butter, and he bought a chocolate fountain that was flowing—surrounded by fresh fruit for dipping. After dinner he led me over to his homemade massage table... We ended our special night with a romantic movie. 5. Give your wife a dozen roses. On each stem attach a note for a future date—to do something that she would enjoy (example: Go to the symphony).

Runaway Cow A petition has now been started calling for the cow to be spared following it's daring last minute escape bid A cow made a daring break for freedom sparking a police chase through the streets of New York. Surreal dashcam footage taken from a police car shows the bovine fugitive dashing across a road in Jamaica, Queens, evading the attention of one man who tries to stop it. It was also filmed by a passerby trotting down 175th street as bemused pedestrians looked on. The cow had escaped from the Archer Halal Live Poultry and Meat Market on 165th Street. Unfortunately for the animal, it was later caught in a car park and returned to the store to meet it's fate.

NYPD 103rd Precinct tweeted a picture of the recaptured cow with a rope around its neck and wrote: "Yes, you heard right! Cow on the loose-Jamaica Queens. "All officers safe. No injuries. Thank you all for your patience." The cow is still due to be slaughtered. Queens resident Atiya Lilly Gassaway has started a petition though, calling for the cow to be spared. It reads: "On January 21, 2016 a terrified cow escaped from a slaughter house in Jamaica, Queens. "This cow was seconds away from freedom, this is our chance to give it a voice and another chance. "Please sign the petition in hopes of sparing this terrified cows life & sending it to a Farm Sanctuary." The petition has so far attracted 377 signatures

Thoughts Of Oana I’ve been in Spain for 23 months now and everything has changed: job, friends, house – and even the climate. Can you feel it too? Even the recent earthquake was felt in Torre del Mar! Did you know that 2015 was the warmest year ever recorded since 1880 when we first started to measure the temperatures? The sea and ocean levels are rising, the volcanoes have started to erupt, the temperatures seem to increase year by year and no-one really seems to care. The sun is the main source of energy for the Earth, but although the scientists reveal that it is not to blame for global warming, the next generation will be the first to feel the devastating effects of everything that happens now on our planet. We are not very preoccupied now with global warming, but if you knew that your children and grandchildren could live in a better climate,

would you do something to change things? Would you start recycling plastic, paper, metal and everything that should be recycled? We are so lucky here in Spain as all the bins are labelled properly, but in some other countries they haven't yet begun to separate the waste. I realised that something was wrong on my holiday in Romania, when I expected to find lots of snow, like our traditional Christmases. It wasn't like that – the temperature was 16 degrees on Christmas Day, which is wrong. Last year it was minus 20 in February! Some people believe that global warming is the Earth’s natural development and nothing that humans can do will stop it or slow it down, but whatever you believe, doing something must be better than not doing anything at all. Australia During the Australian gold rush period, miners who were suddenly in possession of money from the new-found wealth of the Ballarat Mines were willing to pay a princely sum for elaborate valentines. The most extravagent Australian valentines were made of a satin cushion, perfumed and decorated in an ornate manner with flowers and coloured shells. Some might even be adorned with a taxidermied humming bird or bird of paradise. This treasure, contained within a neatly decorated box, was highly valued, being both fashionable and extremely expensive. Austria Austria has some rather obscure courtship customs that may or may not be associated with Saint Valentine's Day. Nonetheless, it is customary for a young man to present his beloved with a bunch of flowers on February 14th. America In the United States of America, there have been many varieties of cards given over the course of the years, some of which have often been rude or even quite cruel in their humour. Early American valentine cards were especially lithographed and hand-coloured, beautiful and distinctive in design, produced with intricate lace paper and decorated with such ornaments as beads, sea shells, cones, berries and all manner of seeds. Cards were also available decorated with seaweed or moss, in addition to dried and/or artificial flowers, all of which were attached to a string which was pulled and could then be suspended, thereby creating a threedimensional picture. Today, American children usually exchange valentines with their friends and there may even be a classroom party. Britain The poets of Britain have probably penned the majority of the best-loved romantic verses associated with Saint Valentine. Different regions of the nation celebrate their own customs to honour this day, although the sending of cards and gifts of flowers and chocolates is standard procedure throughout the entire country. Denmark The Danish valentine card is known as a "lover's card." Older versions of this greeting came in the form of a transparency which, when held up to the light, depicted the image of a lover handing his beloved a gift. One custom in Denmark is for people to send pressed white flowers called Snowdrops to their friends. Danish men may also send a form of valentine

known as a gaekkebrev (or "joking letter"). The sender of this gaekkebrev pens a rhyme but does not sign his name. Instead, he signs the message with dots...one dot for each letter in his name. If the lady who receives the card guesses the name of the sender, then she is rewarded with an Easter Egg later in the year. France In France, a custom known as "drawing for" once occurred. Unmarried individuals, both young and not so young, would go into houses facing each other and begin calling out across from one window to another, pairing-off with the chosen partner. If the young man failed to be particularly enthralled with his valentine, he would desert her. As a result, a bonfire would be lit later where the ladies could burn images of the ungrateful sweetheart and verbally abuse him in a loud tone as the effigy burned. This ritual was eventually abandoned since it left much room for nastiness, ridicule or even outright malice and the French government finally handed-down a decree officially banning the custom. Elegant French greetings cards known as cartes d'amities, which contained tender messages, were given not totally as a Valentine but chiefly as a result of a fashion which was popular in England at the time. germany In Germany, it has become customary for the young man of a courting couple to present his beloved with flowers on February 14th. Valentine gifts in Germany are usually in the shape of love tokens, complete with endearing messages. However, these are not distributed solely on Valentine's Day, but on any occasion. Even early German baptismal certificates or marriage certificates were considered at one time to have been valentines, but were more likely simply decorative and pictorial documents which contained lovely verses. Spain In Spain, it is customary for courting couples to exchange gifts on Valentine's Day and for husbands to send their wives bouquets of roses.

Grapevines For the last two days, every time I have walked out of my front door everything has looked strangely tidy, strangely clean and strangely bare. My village house is typical in that it looks tiny from the outside but is in fact quite large. It winds its way behind the houses and is higher than you think. There are four terraces at various levels and two are blessed with the wonderful natural shade of hanging vines, which make outside dining a possibility throughout the summer months. The vines look romantic and dramatic to my foreign eye. I hang windchimes and pretty hearts from the branches, and twinkling lights make summer nights cosy and quaint. I have no idea how to look after a vine – or any plant, tree or shrub for that matter. I bought a lavender plant a couple of years ago that I popped into the earth with the help of a soup spoon and a prayer. It has grown and grown to an epic size – I often gaze at the bees enjoying its flowers and wonder how it survived! The vine seems to do well despite it being a cat scratch post. It forms such a big part of our life that I thank the powers above that neither I nor the cats has managed to kill it. We have a couple of wooden seats outside the front of our house. Here I watch Ines play, sit and gaze at the fountain when I need a break or chat to neighbours and friends. It is from these seats that I watch the yearly progress of the vine. It truly marks the calendar of the seasons. In spring, the first of the new growth appears: the odd cluster of caviar like baby grapes. Summer means huge growth spurts and the winding of branches around the balcony and railings, huge fat grapes and the odd drop of sticky juice plopping onto our heads. It means wonderful shade for dining outside. The house looks its best with its lush, green porch with its exotic fruits hanging like decorations on a Christmas tree. Autumn comes and so do the wasps, looking for juicy grapes left on the branches and the smell of wine as the stragglers turn to raisins. The first leaf turns brown and I use them to decorate the house for the longawaited cooler season. Winter arrives and the leaves fall and fall and fall. They get swept up – and they continue to fall. My house looks like no one lives in it as the leaves pile up and get into every plant pot and corner. I sweep and sweep. It gets to the point that I am begging the man who comes to trim the vine each year

to come early. And he tells me no, have patience, it cannot be trimmed until after San Anton in the middle of January as that is the way. Then the leaves stop. The branches are bare and it looks like a Halloween house; a house with twirling branches all over the outside, hanging like snakes. The man will arrive soon after and cut them all off. Everything will look bare for a few weeks...and then the cycle starts once more. It is nature doing as nature should. I am thankful I live in a country where I can sit outside most days of the year under those vines, where I can watch nature and enjoy the changing seasons. Perhaps one day I shall learn how to look after my vines properly, but for now we are getting on just fine. By Laura Campbell from Sedella

The Hair & Beauty Studio Dermalogica Advanced Facial We are well and truly into the New Year, but when writing this article during the first few days of 2016 I decided that my New Year’s resolution was to treat myself to a beauty treatment of some kind once a month. When speaking with Sarah at the Hair and Beauty salon in Puente don Manuel she suggested I come in for a Dermalogica Advanced Facial. Sarah explained this is customised for every client according to their skin type. This interested me as my face can be very dry some days and greasy on others. The process is started with face mapping where the skin is analysed and a treatment is prepared that’s different every time you come in. This treatment is recommended every four to six weeks. Sarah took me through to the treatment room and within a few minutes after filling out a consultation card, I found myself lying totally relaxed, listening to calming music and ready to begin. Each treatment includes double cleansing, exfoliation, results-enhancing electrical modalities, extractions (as needed), massage, masque, toner and skin protection. The skin exfoliants range from a gentle daily Microfoliant for sensitive skin and E35 containing salicylic /lactic acid for a deeper exfoliation. This is what I had. The galvanic current that is used pushes the product deeper into the skin and prepares it for better absorption of the customised masks.

The massage is a lymphatic drainage one for the face, neck and scalp where essential oils are used. These oils create a natural relaxing feeling and smell great too. If that is not enough, whilst the mask is on you can choose either a hand or foot massage or Reiki healing. I opted for the Reiki healing – something that is a must if you have not experienced it before. It is so calming and if you’re not careful, it may just send you into a state of deep relaxation... The Dermalogica Advanced facial is one of the salon’s most relaxing facials and you can spruce it up even more by adding a 15-minute back massage at the beginning of the facial to enhance the treatment even more! Once my facial was finished, my skin felt amazing – so smooth and soft and I had a lovely glow to my face. Two weeks on and my dry skin from before has currently not returned. This is a 1 hour 15 minute facial for a great price of just 40 euros. The Hair and Beauty Studio also offers other advanced facials: the Dermalogica non surgical facial and a NEW Dermalogica Bio Surface Peel. See main advert on page 11

Our oceans are full of fascinating fish and none more so than the whitemargin stargazer, which is also known as the Popeye fish. The name stargazer comes from the fact that their eyes are positioned on top of their heads, and so they seem to be looking at nothing but the stars. Other nicknames include the tubenosed stargazer and marbled stargazer. The stargazer possesses electric organs located in a specialised pouch behind the eyes. They can discharge up to 50 volts, depending on the temperature of the water at the time, and the stargazer uses this to stun its prey. They are found singly in silty, sandy lagoons

and coastal waters, buried in the sand with just the mouth and eyes showing. They lie in ambush and feed on fish, octopus and squid. Stargazers grow to lengths of 35cm. They live in depths from 5 to 150 metres and are widespread throughout the Indo-Pacific ocean areas. This fish is one of the great masters of camouflage in any ocean. Due to their tendency to conceal themselves in this manner, they are not commonly seen by humans. Some species have a worm-shaped lure growing out of the floor of their mouth, which they can wiggle to attract prey's attention. The shoulder has a venomous cleithral spine; wounds inflicted by it can be serious.

February already and the valley where Benamargosa nestles is green and lush, the tops of the hills are dotted with cotton wool almond blossom and the avacado trees are starting to come into flower. Having had such a mild winter it is hard to tell where Winter ends and Spring starts. Of course there is still time for some much needed rain yet; having had 6 weeks of annual holiday I have had time to get out and about sketching and painting and was shocked to see how little water remains in Lake Vinuela and how quickly the level has gone down since it was full two years ago. At La Vaqueria during this time off we have made a few changes too. This has always been a family run business but now even more

so as my eldest daughter is gradually taking over the catering side of things with a new all day menu and extensive range of home made ready meals to take away as well as the ever popular Sunday Lunch Buffet which leaves me free to get on with the art! At the moment I am working on a huge commission - a collage of every Pink Floyd album cover which you are very welcome to pop in and view and then it is on to mosaicing giant mushrooms....plenty of fun and inspiring ideas as well as free advice for your own projects. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Please mention The Sentinella Running Of Governments Once upon a time there was a king who wanted to go fishing. He called the royal weather forecaster and inquired as to the weather forecast for the next few hours. The weatherman assured him that there was no chance of rain in the coming days. So the king went fishing with his wife, the queen. On the way, he met a farmer on his donkey. Upon seeing the king the farmer said, “Your Majesty, you should return to the Palace at once, because in just a short time I expect a huge amount of rain to fall in this area". The king was polite and considerate, he replied: "I hold the Palace meteorologist in high regard. He is an extensively educated and experienced professional and besides, I pay him very high wages. He gave me a very different forecast. I trust him and I will continue on my way." So he continued on his way. However, a short time later a torrential rain fell from the sky. The King and Queen were totally soaked and their entourage chuckled upon seeing them in such a shameful condition. Furious, the king returned to the Palace and gave the order to fire the professional. Then he summoned the farmer and offered him the prestigious and high paying role of royal forecaster. The farmer said, "Your Majesty, I do not know anything about forecasting. I obtain my information from my donkey. If I see my donkey's ears drooping, it means with certainty that it will rain." So the king hired the donkey. And thus began the practice of hiring dumb asses to work in the Government and occupy it’s highest and most influential positions. And the practice is unbroken to this date...

Funny Love Messages People say that love is in every corner... I must be walking in circles! Love is the fart Of every heart For when held in Doth pain thy host But when let out Pains others most Last night I hugged my pillow and dreamt of you... I wish that someday I'd dream about my pillow and I'd be hugging you.

Boys are great. Every girl should have one. Your smile can be compared to a flower Your voice can be compared to a cuckoo Your innocence to a child But in stupidity you have no comparison You're the best! You always stop and stare, why not just take a picture? If I kiss him, will he stop talking?

He broke my heart, so I broke his jaw.

People tell me there's plenty of fish in the sea. But who wants to date a fish?

My love for you is like diahrea, I just can't hold it in.

You tripped me, so I fell for you.

True love is like a pillow You can hug it when you're in trouble You can cry on it when you're in pain You can embrace it when you're happy So when you need true love Buy a pillow

The police are on the way to arrest you for stealing my heart, hijacking my feelings, and driving me crazy. See you in court! Love is like peeing your pants everyone can see it but only you can feel it. Thanks for being the pee in my pants.

Brussels takes action against Spain over “disproportionate” sanctions Form 720, which obliges Spanish citizens residing abroad to declare their income and assets, may be illegal. Robot recognised Star Wars actor Anthony Daniels has revealed that he is frequently recognised by fans – even though he plays a robot in the film.

The actor, who plays C-3PO, says he is “astonished” he is still recognised out of his costume. Anthony Daniels has played the lovable droid since the first film in 1977, and is the only actor to have appeared in all seven Star Wars films over the four decades since the beginning of the franchise. He reprised the role for the latest instalment The Force Awakens which looks set to make C-3PO a favourite with millions more movie lovers. Brit Anthony, 69, told the Daily Star Sunday: “You have to imagine what it feels like to be the focus of all the love and attention from fans. “It’s the fans who have kept this franchise going. They have been so supportive. I get recognised all the time, even though I’m known for playing a robot!” Stalker arrested Reality TV star Kylie Jenner has been harassed by a scary fan who has reportedly tried to break into her home more than 10 times. But Kylie's stalker has now allegedly been arrested at her $2.7 million (£1.8 million) Californian mansion after he made another attempt to meet the 18-year-old. The male suspect is believed to have broken out of a psychiatric ward before trying to gain access by force to the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star on Boxing Day. He claims he is her ‘soulmate.’ The Kardashians have been victims of strange

behaviour before with their matriarch Kris revealing she used to receive 300 phone calls a day from her own superfan. In 2013 police searched the Kardashians' home after a hoax call claiming to be from someone locked in a closet who had heard a shooting. The prank was believed to be part of the 'swatting' trend that had also targeted Justin Bieber, Tom Cruise and Ashton Kutcher.

The world-famous group's reunion had seemed in crisis, after Posh allegedly told her former bandmates she is too busy with her fashion empire to celebrate 20 years since the release of ‘Wannabe’. But super-organiser Mel B revealed on Alan Carr's New Year's Eve show that the reunion should go ahead. "To be serious, it is our 20th anniversary this year and it would be rude not to celebrate, so hopefully something will be happening pretty soon," she said.

Figs are a very underrated fruit and since fresh figs are so readily available in Andalucia,we really should be making a lot more of them!

Fig leaves have anti-diabetic properties, and reduce the amount of insulin needed by diabetics. Dried figs make a healthy energy snack. Add figs to baked goods such as muffins, cakes and cookies for added flavour as well as nutritional benefits. Fresh figs are also good with porridge, oatmeal or breakfast cereals, and chopped figs make a wonderful addition to rice and couscous dishes.

Figs promote healthy bowel function due to the high levels of fibre they contain. They are amongst the most highly alkaline foods, making them useful in balancing the pH of the body. Figs are a good fruit source of calcium, a mineral that is involved in bone density. Their high potassium content may counteract the urinary excretion of calcium caused by high salt diets. This in turn helps to keep calcium in bones and lessens the risk of osteoporosis. Potassium is also important in helping to regulate blood pressure. Figs are rich in other minerals including calcium, magnesium, iron and copper and are a good source of antioxidant vitamins A, E and K that contribute to health and wellness. One of the world’s oldest trees, the fig tree can be traced back to the earliest historical documents and features prominently in the Bible. Figs are native to the Middle East and Mediterranean and were held in such high regard by the Greeks that laws were once created to prevent their export. Studies have shown the ability of fig leaves to lower the levels of triglycerides. Triglycerides are the major form of fat produced and stored in the body, and elevated levels of triglycerides are commonly linked to obesity and heart disease. Naturally high in dietary fibre, figs can be a useful food to include in the diet for those watching their weight. High fibre foods provide feelings of fullness and can reduce hunger and cravings. Figs also contain prebiotics, which help support the pre-existing good bacteria in the gut, improving digestive wellness.

It’s The Month Of Lurve

A Daring Present...!

Sweet Misery When I fell in love with you, it made a wreck of me. I feel so dazed and dizzy that it's hard for me to see. I get too hot and sweat a lot. I hardly eat a bite. My pulse beats like a kettle drum and keeps me up at night. My stomach hurts and I go down as if I've got the bends. Love's causing me sweet misery-I hope it never ends! Proper Treatment I thought love had it in for me, it didn't treat me nice. It kicked my butt and ran me down and crushed me in its vice. Love would do me in, I knew. What saved me from that fate? You came into my life, of course, and now love treats me great! A Special world A special world for you and me A special bond one cannot see It wraps us up in its cocoon And holds us fiercely in its womb. Its fingers spread like fine spun gold Gently nestling us to the fold Like silken thread it holds us fast Bonds like this are meant to last. And though at times a thread may break A new one forms in its wake To bind us closer and keep us strong In a special world, where we belong.

Finger Licking Good KFC customer horrified after finding chicken meal full of raw giblets as she was about to eat it. A disgusted diner was left horrified after she was about to eat her chicken meal and found it was full of raw GIBLETS. Cassandra Perkins, 22, paid ÂŁ6 for a Zinger Tower meal and one piece of chicken at the fast-food restaurant. But when she held the piece of chicken in her hand she noticed flecks of purple and pulled it apart. When she examined it more closely she realised the uncooked giblets and entrails had been left inside the chicken. Cassandra complained to staff at the KFC in Wellingborough, Northants. However, she said she was just offered to swap her disgusting dinner for a new piece of chicken. She also took pictures of her meal which show the spongybrown looking giblets inside the chicken. a Cassandra, pharmacist, who

lives in Rushden, said: "I was about to bite into it but I thought it looked off so pulled it open and just said 'look at that' and poked it with a straw. It looked disgusting and pink, I didn't want to touch it. I first thought that it may have been brain or lung, it certainly wasn't chicken. It was the giblets. They didn't even look cooked. If I'd have eaten them I would have been pretty ill. My burger had a hair in it as well. I complained and the staff just offered to swap it for a new piece of chicken but there was no way I wanted anything coming out of that store. I certainly won't be going back and won't eat KFC." KFC have now apologised to Cassandra and admitted that staff had forgotten to remove the giblets from her chicken. A spokesman said: "We're proud of the fact that our chicken is hand-prepared and cooked fresh in our kitchens. Sometimes mistakes can happen and unfortunately on rare occasions, giblets are not removed when they should have been. We have reminded our team members to take extra care in future and if a customer is ever unhappy with their food we encourage them to let our team know, who will always be happy to help."

People Who Come And Go People Who Come And Go: Al coming; Bob? – staying!!

ulous location. It is all very exciting!”

Alastair Hoy has a hugely busy life, a commecial airline pilot for whom the world is, as the Spanish would say, just a ‘pañuelo’! But he has found a remote little corner of this world to call his own, here in Andalucía. Tucked away in the Montes de Malaga with nothing but countryside all around and total peace and quiet, is a stunning, rambling old stone built cortijo with a beautiful central courtyard running from the front patio right through the house to the inner courtyard. Owned and much loved over a number of years by Bob and his late wife, it was time to move on, and I am delighted to see the cortijo going to equally loving hands, with ambitious plans for the building!

So is Bob packing up and moving to the coast, or back to the UK? No, he is staying where he is! In fact right in the same area, where he is surrounded by excellent friends, who have given him a new lease of life over the past year. Like Al, he has ambitious plans, and a new home in mind in the area. I think these two will be great friends!

Al told me “I wanted something remote, and rural, with fabulous views, something I could put my mark on, so renovation work doesn’t put me off at all! The current owner has kept it nicely and we are going to use it as it is for about a year and then we will move here permanently and start renovation work. We hope eventually to let it for part of the year to holiday makers looking for a stunning building in a fab-

Best of luck to them both – and I look forward to a beer with you both in Los Ventorros!

When interviewing Al, he wanted to add. “I have been very impressed by the service offered by Unspoilt Andalusia and how easy and pleasant Toni has made the whole experience”

41 Years After 41 years, pen pal’s letter is returned after being lost by snail mail Back in 1975, 11-year-old Julie Keeling thought she’d been snubbed by her French friend but it turns out her note was never delivered. Now a grandmother, she was left “flabbergasted” after the letter was returned to her after it got lost in the mail - exactly 41 years ago. Julie Keeling, 51, was only 11 when she sent the letter to a French girl named Cathy in January 1975. When she did not receive a reply, Julie thought Cathy no longer wanted to be pen pals so didn’t write to her again. But last month she was stunned when the letter she wrote was returned to her parents’ house in Weston Coyney, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs. The letter - which had been typed on a typewriter - remains in perfect condition, despite its original envelope being lost. Enclosed with the letter was a note from Royal Mail explaining it had been “found lost in the mail” so it had never reached Cathy’s address in France. Julie, who has two daughters and three grandchildren, said: “I can’t even remember who Cathy is or where she lived but I think she was French. “I had several pen pals and wrote to them all. Cathy and me had written a couple of letters before this one, because in the letter I thanked her for the Christmas card she had sent me. I also told her about my Christmas and that I was disappointed because we didn’t have any snow. I signed off the letter with ‘P.S. Please write back’, so when she didn’t I was so upset. When the letter finally came back last week I was flabbergasted. It had no envelope so I don’t know Cathy’s last name or where she lives. It’s so long ago I don’t have any of the other letters we sent to each other. Luckily my parents haven’t moved from my childhood home, or I would never have known that Cathy didn’t receive the letter. I have no idea where the original envelope is, or where it has been

on its travels over the past 41 years. It would be nice to be able to track Cathy down, but I have no way of doing so. I had a couple of pen pals in the UK, France and Germany, so who knows where she lives now. It would be nice to know where it has been all these years.” In the letter, dated January 1975, Julie writes about the presents she received for Christmas. Julie, a sales executive from Meir Hay, Stokeon-Trent, Staffs., said: “I even typed the letter up on the brand new typewriter I received as a gift. I was so excited. You can still see where I made mistakes and used Tipp-Ex to blot them out. It’s quite a blast from the past.” She added: “Writing to my German pen friend helped me get confident with the language.” Julie’s mum Maureen Wakefield, 75, said: “I remember at the time Julie wondering why Cathy hadn’t sent her a letter back. Now we know why - it’s because she never got it. It brings a whole other meaning to the phrase ‘snail mail’.

Thirty years after the defeat of the Galactic Empire, the galaxy faces a new threat from the evil Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and the First Order. When a defector named Finn crashlands on a desert planet, he meets Rey (Daisy Ridley), a tough scavenger whose droid contains a top-secret map.Together, the young duo joins forces with Han Solo (Harrison Ford) to make sure the Resistance receives the intelligence concerning the whereabouts of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), the last of the Jedi Knights. The film ultimately runs up against the limitations of its own nature: like the James Bond

films, the “Star Wars” movies are pretty much obligated to revisit certain elements, to the point where they might feel played out even if they hadn’t been raided by other films, TV shows and books. But it’s still an exhilarating ride, filled with archetypal characters with plausible psychologies, melodramatic confrontations fueled by soaring emotions, and performances that can be described as good, period, rather than "good, for 'Star Wars.'" PISCES: February 20 - March 20 Take time this month for some rest, relaxation and to recharge energy resources. Your home environment is the better place for developing employment, economic plans and achieving objectives. Be careful in dealing with authority and, if possible, delay confrontation in this sphere until March

) : a h a Jokes h A magician worked on a cruise ship. The audience was different each week so the magician did the same tricks over and over again. There was only one problem: The captain's parrot saw the shows each week and began to understand how the Magician did every trick. Once he understood, he started shouting in the middle of the show, "Look, it’s not the same hat!" or, "Look, he's hiding the flowers under the table!" Or "Hey, why are all the cards the ace of spades?" The magician was furious but couldn't do anything. It was, after all, the Captain's' parrot. Then one stormy night in the Pacific, the ship unfortunately sank, drowning almost all who were on board. The magician luckily found himself on a piece of wood floating in the middle of the sea, and as fate would have it, with the parrot. They stared at each other with hatred, but did not utter a word. This went on for a day... and then 2 days, and then 3 days. Finally on the 4th day, the parrot could not hold back any longer and said.... "OK, I give up. The family called their preacher to stand with them. As the preacher stood next to the bed, Ol' Fred's condition appeared to deteriorate and he motioned frantically for something to write on. The pastor lovingly handed him a pen and a piece of paper, and Ol' Fred used his last bit of energy to scribble a note, then he died. The preacher thought it best not to look at the note at that time, so he placed it in his jacket pocket. At the funeral, as he was finishing the message, he realised that he was wearing the same jacket that he was wearing when Ol' Fred died. He said, "You know, Ol' Fred handed me a note just before he died. I haven't looked at it, but knowing Fred, I'm sure there's a word of inspiration there for us all." Another trip to the yard and when it's all over there are bits of pit-bull terrier all over the place. The drinker pays up and says, "Say what breed is that anyway?" Ginger Bamber Section A ginger man finds a magic lamp and when he rubs it a genie pops out. "Ah, hell," says the genie, "What do you want?" The ginger says, "I want a huge mansion with a thousand rooms and a hundred floors, all made of pure gold." The genie looks at him and says, "Don't be an idiot, do you have any idea how much gold that would take? That's impossible. Pick something else." So the ginger says, "I want everyone to stop taking the piss out of my hair colour." The genie says, "So this mansion, you want en suite bathrooms?"
