This month has been a busy one for me…not necessarily busy with work, or busy socializing, but busy trying to find Baby Ty a remedy for eczema. His first break out happened just after we moved house in February, and so my husband and I suspect there might be an environmental reason, although we haven’t figured out the exact cause yet. As we are both against any non-natural approaches, so far we have tried two different homeopathic remedies, various creams, and changing the topical substances we are using, such as detergents and soaps. And even though the eczema comes and goes, it has not yet completely disappeared, and sometimes it flares up in large red patches, including on his chubby little cheeks. The latest thing I am going to try is an appointment with a psychic lady via the phone, who claims she can pick up exactly what Ty is allergic to simply by tuning into his energy field via a photograph. I know that probably sounds a little woo-woo to many of you, but for us anything is worth a try right now. It’s not easy when Ty wakes up in the middle of the night attempting to scratch his skin, and crying in sheer frustration. If any readers have had to deal with eczema with your own babies, I’d love to know what worked for you… please email me with any tips on info@thesentinella.com

Fetch, man Most pets bring back presents such as dead birds, mice or even rabbits. But a Mississippi family’s dog went one step beyond. State police are investigating after they say a family’s dog brought home a large bag of marijuana. The Jones County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that narcotics deputies were dispatched to a home, where the owner told them his dog had come home with a bag he initially thought was rubbish. After taking a look in the bag, the home-owner discovered ‘a leafy substance that smelled like marijuana’. Authorities say they recovered about a pound of weed. It is not yet known where the dog retrieved the bag from. Struck off A receptionist who wrote ‘Deport Islam’ near a mosque has been banned from having a marker pen in public. Tom Whelan, 53, wrote on hoardings outside Noor Islam Trust in Leyton, east London, on nine occasions. He would write things like ‘deport Islam’, ‘Islam evil’, ‘Arab myth’, ‘Nation destroyer’ and ‘Allah myth’. Whelan pleaded guilty to nine charges of racially aggravated criminal damage at Thames Magistrates’ Court.

Poo to parking A woman has been fined after she sent a card covered in cat poo to her neighbour after a row about parking. Tanya Tobin, 26, crossed out the words printed in the card and wrote ‘your lies smell like cat sh*t’ then posted it through neighbour Maria Jones and Matthew Terry’s door. The court heard there had been a long-running dispute over parking that had previously led to an assault. She was ordered to pay £90 fines and costs after admitting sending a malicious message with intent to cause distress or anxiety at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court, Hampshire. Silly suds - Scent of romance A NEW dating service has been launched based on people choosing prospective partners by how they smell. Those who use the new service, Smell Dating, are sent a T-shirt that has been worn for three days and they have to decide if the smell is attractive enough for them to book a date.

De Cotta Law SPANISH PROPERTY RATES THE CATASTRO All properties in Spain have a rateable value. Rates, or council tax as it is now known in the UK, are locally charged and vary quite substantially with rural areas having much lower rates than those in the coastal or city areas. This reflects the level of infrastructure provided by the various Town Halls. The rates bill – IBI Impuesto sobre Bienes Inmuebles - states the Catastral or rateable value of the property. As a general rule each Town Hall will revise the rateable values of properties every six years by undertaking a check on the descriptions of property at the Catastro offices and where there is a discrepancy they will update the catastral plan. This is currently being undertaken in the Nerja area. Throughout Spain there is increasing use of aerial and satellite mapping showing a number of properties with a surface area greater than that being billed for in the rates. Consequently, the exercise will result in higher rates for some property owners and there is also a 60₏ tax payable to the Catastro for the administrative costs of the process. The good news is that although this increases the rates the cost of applying to have the castastro map changed if you do this privately is considerably more. This is because you have to present a topographical map to the authorities and pay a qualified surveyor to carry this out. If you are selling your property the purchaser can make this a requirement if your rateable map is not up to date. In some areas however the updating procedure still takes many months if not years to complete. This whole procedure is totally separate from the land registration procedure and description of the property in the escritura or deed. It might be necessary to execute a deed of new works and register this with the land registry if you have extended your property or added a swimming pool for example. For more information or questions related to updating your property details with the land registry and/or with the rating authority please contact us on info@decottalaw.net or telephone 952 527014

Hillary Dear Abby

Dear Mad as Hell,

My husband hasn't worked for the last 14 years. All he does is get dressed in the morning and hop in his fancy car to visit his cronies. I know he`s cheated on me many times with young girls who could be his grand daughters.

You don`t have to take that kind of treatment from any man. I suggest you pack your bags and move out a.s.a.p.! Don`t resort to clobbering him with the frying pan, and try to act like a lady!

I know because he brags about this to me. He smokes fancy cigars and drinks the most expensive Champagne day and night. We sleep in separate rooms because he`s always telling me he knows I`m a lesbian and my sagging body and Botox face turn him off.

Remember....... you`re running for President of the United States, so try acting like one! Abby

Should I clobber him with my frying pan, or should I leave him, Abby? Your advice would be appreciated..... Mad as Hell

School Things parents hate about school 1. The School Run You promised yourself that this term, things would be different. Now it's 8.07am, and here you are once again. More bags hanging off you than the Buckaroo donkey. Swearing openly as you battle with the booster seat. You are officially the world's angriest chauffeur since Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver. 2. The Lunchboxes Back in 1985, a Wagon Wheel and a floppy Mighty White sandwich would suffice. These days, terrified of your child being flagged as a malnutrition risk, your kitchen becomes a deranged deli counter each morning, as you fill a compartmentalised lunchbox with soft fruit, seeded bread and yoghurt. Which your child will then trade for popping candy... 3. The Impractical Timetable To support parents as they ease back into a challenging job market, the school day helpfully kicks off at 8.50am and ends at 3.15pm. Which basically gives you just two employment options: lollipop lady or night watchman.

8. Cake Sales It's a racket that not even the Sicilian mafia would have the balls to dream up. First you lovingly bake a batch of fairy cakes. Then you hand them over. Finally, you buy them back for a fiver. Ever get the feeling you're being cheated...? 9. Recorder Practice We get that children expressing themselves through music can only be a good thing. We just wish it didn't have to be through the recorder: an instrument-fromhell that your child will toot incessantly like your kitchen is an '80s rave. 12. School Fetes Bat the rat. Soak the teacher. Guess the weight. At the rate you're forking out 50p pieces, you'll burn through more cash at the school fete than the roulette tables of Caesars Palace. By 4pm, broke and sunburnt, you'll be ready to take out your frustrations on the crockery stand. 13. Nits In this gleaming future-age of apps and cloud storage, there's something faintly medieval about your child coming home with a lice infestation. Still, it could be worse. It could be worms.

4. PTFA Contributions Another week, another wad of begging letters in the book-bag, chiselling you out of £3 for Sports Relief, £5 to cover the fire-station trip and £10 for Meerkat Awareness Day. Examining your bank statement at the end of the year, you'll realise you'd actually have spent less sending them to private school. 5. The Art Projects "For this term's topic of medieval Britain," demands the letter, "we'd like your child to construct a historically accurate motte-and-bailey castle to present next Friday". So begins a shameless cheat-athon, with every parent in school sitting up until 3am, waiting for the papier-mâché to dry with rods of dowel holding their eyelids open. 6. The Schoolgate Politics Even now, in your mid-thirties, there's a school hierarchy to respect, with the alpha-mums holding court while the underlings nod, fake-laugh and agree that Lucy's mum is a selfish bitch for not breastfeeding. On the plus-side, at least you don't get bog-flushed these days. 7. The PTFA Press Gangs "Hi there!" trills the woman with the terrifying grin as she stops you in the corridor. "We're looking for a few volunteers to erect the marquee for the summer fete, man the face-painting stall and iron the dinner ladies' tabards. You're not doing anything between two and five on Saturday, are you...?"

Summer Activities Summer is almost here and you are probably wondering how you are going to keep those children amused for three months!  Well here are a few ideas to ponder on...

ball competition.

Try to identify stars and planets in the sky while stargazing from a fun location like a trampoline, the roof, or a boat dock

Eat meals outdoors on the porch, patio, or deck. (Psst… National Eat Outside Day is August 31st each year.)

Go to a music event and make a point of meeting a famous singer/songwriter there

Organize all of your photos — both the digital ones and the printed ones

Rent a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and see some of the lovely sights of Axarquia

Buy a new pillow – maybe even one of those fancy specialty pillows. Have a pillow fight first with the old one!

Throw a party, this does not have to involve a huge cost, just ask for all in attendance to bring a snack and some drinks. What a lovely way to spend a sunny evening, with your friends

Treat yourself to a manicure and/or pedicure, or spend the day at a spa. Even better if you can get your spouse to go with you!

Save all of your spare change during the summer months. Then, at the end of the summer, cash in your change and get something fun. Or use it to pay for things and feel the joy when you’re able to pay for something with the exact change. Travel somewhere spontaneously with no prior planning Turn seashells into wind chimes or decorative garland Go to a water park. Take funny pictures of your pets with different props Host a scavenger hunt with friends — either a driving version or a walking version Go to a swimming pool and do cannonballs. Or, get everyone to do it and have a cannon-

Quit your job to pursue whatever you’re truly passionate about.

Rent a bicycle Visit a photobooth with a friend Swim with dolphins Be a vegetarian for a month. I bet you’ll feel better — healthier from the inside out Make homemade dog treats for your pet Pitch a tent in your backyard and camp there for the night Sleep on the porch all night under the stars Plant a herb garden Wash your car in the driveway Most of all have the best summer ever!

Brewery Worker's Prank At any other company, this would probably get an employee sacked, this guy got praised... When most employees do something terribly wrong, they are at risk of suspension, a sacking or at least a slap on the wrist.

legedly

shipped out to the whole of the UK.

But a man who works for craft beer brand BrewDog found himself earning the title of 'employee of the month' - after he caused an entire batch of cans to be recalled because of a naughty prank. According to BrewDog, their packing manager Graeme Wallace was recently responsible for a 200,000 can recall. Annoyed that the company was accused of not being ‘punk’ enough, Graeme changed the wording on the cans to read ‘Mother f***** day’ on a batch of Punk IPA which was then al-

The act of defiance only came to light when amused social media users started tweeting BrewDog photos of the bottom of their beer. Sure enough, someone did share a photo on Imgur with the caption: "Have to take all these beers off sale because someone had a bad day." A spokesperson for BrewDog said: "At another company, someone responsible for a prank like this might have been given the heave ho. At BrewDog, Graeme was awarded Employee of the Month." Let's hope someone doesn't try to beat him next month. It could get ugly!

Top House Spain

we bring you home Exciting news for all property owners and seekers: a new concept in real estate has been born! It is called ‘TopHouseSpain’ – And it is coming to help you very, very soon! All will be revealed in this magazine – very soon! During the recession so many businesses just slowed down or even stopped trading because of all the negativity around them, but the ones that have flourished are those who have rolled up their sleeves and taken action; even more action than in times of abundance. The owners of the two real estate giants in the area (whose directors alone bring a combined real estate experience of over 40 years) are two such businesses that have defied the crisis and positioned themselves to make massive numbers of sales as the market rises. So rather than competing with each other the two biggest estate agents in the area have decided to join forces by developing TopHouseSpain - a new real estate concept. It will provide an unprecedented opportunity for all by giving an unbeatable service for everyone concerned in the property market. Why is bigger necessarily better? If you are a property owner trying to sell, you will no doubt be aware that times have been difficult since the start of the recession. However, the property market is now on the up and you need to take advantage of the masses of buyers, from a variety of countries, who have the money and are ready to part with it. They will spend their money - either on your property or on someone else’s. So how can you increase the chances of them spending it on yours? Apart from the obvious, such as making sure it is well presented, in good condition and at the right price, the answer is simple: make sure that more people are aware of it. To allow you to do this

TopHouseSpain features not only the offices of these two estate agents but is also opening two more offices in the area in June and more planned before the end of the year. To speed up the expansion they have also affiliated TopHouseSpain with over 300 other real estate specialists in Spain who are sending their clients directly to TopHouseSpain. They also have agents in other countries, such as the UK, Germany and Scandinavia, who eagerly send clients over to view their properties. And it goes without saying that they are taking full advantage of the millions of buyers who use the internet by advertising your properties on an ever-increasing number of international property portals. But it’s not only about size; it’s also about the quality of service. At TopHouseSpain they understand that they are not only selling a property but more importantly they are selling a lifestyle - a much improved lifestyle! Wherever the potential buyers may come from, when they are being shown your property, they will also experience what it is like to live in this wonderful part of the world. Once they have viewed properties with the professionals they rarely want to go elsewhere. When the founders of TopHouseSpain started as small, local agents it was difficult to afford massive marketing budgets, employ quality staff and train them to look after buyers properly. But now they have the resources to bring you precisely what you need. If you are a property owner or seeker, TopHouseSpain obviously provides you with more choice in a greater geographical area than ever before. So whether you want to sell, buy, let or rent, the directors of this new exciting concept tell us that at TopHouseSpain, ‘we bring you home’!

Please mention The Sentinella when responding to adverts Moclinejo

Moclinejo can be approached either up the hill from Benagalbón or down the hill from Almáchar. Either way will take you about 10 minutes in the car and the drive back down towards the motorway although winding is worth the effort for the spectacular views of the coast. Fittingly, the hills are usually a lovely shade of green as the vines fan out to produce the grapes that make this area part of the Raisin Route of the Axarquía. The village was most probably built by the moors as there is no evidence of it having existed before their arrival. It is documented that in 1482 they attacked the Christian troops of the captain general of Antequera, Don Pedro Enríquez, who on finding the village apparently deserted, set fire to it. The Muslims who were hiding in the castle on seeing what was happening threw rocks and tree trunks at the Christians killing many of them. The ravine in the area is known to this day as Hoya de los Muertos or Pit of the Dead! The Moclinejo of today is entered by driving through the arch in a very impressive stone wall with a small fairytale tower. As you drive further down the hill you come to a parking area and a children´s playground. Probably best to park here and walk! I chose to drive on through the village and the streets became narrower and narrower, villagers taking their daily constitutional were flattened to the walls of their houses as I continued my climb up towards the 16th century Santa Maria church which towered above the street. Parking my car at the top of the hill I jumped out to take a

AS3042

photo of this imposing building with its Moorish arches in the bell tower and roof. Then I ran down to the main square the Plaza de España to take more photos. Each year during September the village celebrates its Fiesta of Wine and Folklore which honours the farmers who have cultivated the grapes on the surrounding hills for centuries. You can sample the many local culinary delights such as the Muscatel grapes themselves or raisins, ajoblanco (the cold garlic and almond soup) and paella which is served at lunchtime. Just opposite the village is the family run Bodegas Dimobe established in 1927. Here you can see the wine cellar, the vineyards and the raisin dryers as well as sampling their delights at an organised wine tasting. You can buy by the bottle and the wine is very good. To drive back down to the autovia you go past the entrance to the Hamlet of El Valdes, a mini Moclinejo also worth a visit if only to see the amazing Casa Museo Axarquia, an interestingly decorated building resplendent in the heart of this white washed village, a testament to its owner Antonio Montañez who reformed this impressive 300m2 property, spread over 5 floors, in just one year using materials salvaged from old houses in the area. Full of antiques and art work donated by local artists this wonder begs to be seen so do visit it in Calle Ermita, El Valdes. It is only open to the public on the first Saturday of each month at 10am until 2pm and the tour is free.

Linea Directa HOW TO NEGOTIATE ROUNDABOUTS If you are unsure about the correct way to negotiate roundabouts, here are some simple rules to help you enter and exit roundabouts safely and in the right lane. APPROACHING ROUNDABOUTS It’s important to remember to give way to traffic already on the roundabout. If the roundabout is outside urban areas of towns or cities, keep right. If the roundabout is in a built-up area inside a town or city and the lanes are clearly marked, you should use the lane that best corresponds to the exit you need to take. LEAVING ROUNDABOUTS This causes the most confusion amongst drivers. Which lane to choose? Why do I get beeped at if I’m in the right lane? Drivers must exit roundabouts from the right hand lane, because the only way to leave the roundabout is by turning right. This doesn’t mean we always have to enter the roundabout from the right hand lane. It depends on the exit we need to take. However this simple rule, in practice, can be more complex. Let us see some examples.

1st EXIT RIGHT Enter roundabout keeping to right hand side lane. Stay in lane until exit is reached. Indicate and exit roundabout. CONTINUING STRAIGHT ON (e.g. 2nd EXIT STRAIGHT AHEAD) Enter roundabout keeping to right hand side lane. Stay in lane until exit is reached. Indicate prior to exit and leave roundabout. TURNING LEFT OR CHANGING DIRECTION (e.g. 3rd OR FINAL EXIT) Enter roundabout keeping to left hand side lane. Stay in lane until you have passed the exit before your turn off, then change lane by indicating right and giving other road users sufficient time to anticipate your manoeuvre. Don’t forget that drivers circulating in the outside lanes have priority, so use your mirrors to ensure you are not blocking them as you change lanes. We hope the information provided in this article is of interest. If you would like to contact Línea Directa please call 902 123 165 More information on Línea Directa online at www.lineadirecta.com

Asbestos - Have You Been In Contact?

In this edition, I thought I would look at a number of questions that often arise and that make people worried about the possibility of making a claim. My message is, if in doubt ask!

breathing difficulties can be attributed to asbestos. This is the point we have to prove in all respiratory disease cases, not just asbestos related but also, for example, silicosis – medical evidence is required to prove a link.

I CANNOT REMEMBER WHERE I WORKED OR THE COMPANY I WORKED FOR NO LONGER EXISTS. It is not unusual for companies that traded in the 1960’s, for example, to have long since stopped trading. With investigations I can trace insurers who provided cover for these companies and they are obliged to deal with the claims. Even if you are hazy about the exact name of a company or your period of employment with them, I can obtain your work history from HM Revenue & Customs and this provides confirmation of who you worked for all those years ago.

Claims for breathing problems caused by exposure to asbestos can be complex but the quicker the claim is started the quicker these issues can be dealt with. So, if you are concerned about your particular situation or have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch. I am happy to talk to you free of charge.

I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH AN ASBESTOS CONDITION BUT I DID NOT WORK WITH ASBESTOS. I always like to meet my clients and it is surprising how often, when you start talking about a persons work history, what they remember. Often, it turns out that even if a person did not actually work with asbestos, they worked alongside people who did and therefore came into contact with dust. Another possibility, and a particularly sad one in my experience, is a wife who comes into contact with asbestos from her husband’s work clothes. A RELATIVE HAS DIED FROM AN ASBESTOS RELATED CONDITION BEFORE MAKING A CLAIM It is not widely known that claims can be made even though the person affected has died (provided the claim is made within 3 years of death). The claim is made on behalf of the persons estate. DIAGNOSING AN ASBESTOS RELATED CONDITION There are a number of conditions that can be caused by exposure to asbestos, including lung cancer. The main issue is whether the

Clinica Casa Blanca The healing benefits of relaxation Pain, aches, nausea, sickness, allergies or similar are all warning symptoms that the body is out of balance. It is trying to tell you something – that it needs attention and healing. Sometimes, if it is too ill, it needs help and support to bring it back into balance to allow it to heal. It has been found that one of the main causes of all pain and disease is stress – mental, emotional or from work – and a key ingredient in helping reduce stress is relaxation. The following are some of the benefits of relaxation: it slows your heart rate, slows your breathing, increases blood flow to major muscles, reduces muscle tension and chronic pain and lowers fatigue. Here at Clinica Casa Blanca we offer treatments such as Bowen technique, osteopathy, reflexology, massage etc which are all powerful aids in helping the body to relax and bring it back into balance, therefore allowing it to heal. Aquamarine Pools Water Analysis! Summer will be here before you know it and all of you with swimming pools will be wanting to maintain them with the least effort as possible Simon from Aquamarine Pools has a wealth of knowledge and experience gained from more than 15 years here in this part of the Axarquia, covering from Maro to Benajarafe and inland. Until recently, Simon and his team of four were mobile but things are looking good and now he has opened his own shop, “Aquamarine Pools” situated in Calle Playa Marina, 2D Torre del Mar. This new office will be manned Monday – Friday from 09.30am – 1.30pm and Saturdays from 10am – 1pm. Simon and his team will be available to answer any advice and technical questions you may have. Simon was very excited to tell me about a new machine he now has in stock, “Spin Lab”, which provides guaranteed results of water analysis from your pool in just one minute! The software collects the data and when transferred to the PC, provides detailed computerised results with both the problems and the solutions to make your water safe to swim in.

This service is discounted to all Sentinella readers. Turn to page 48 where you will find the Aquamarine Pools advert; take this when bringing your water sample to the office to receive a 10% discount. Without the voucher, the service will cost 25 euros per water analysis. Simon is also available for diagnosing problems with no obligation. This service is 25 euros per hour but if you use Aquamarine Pools to correct the problem, the diagnosis fee is discounted. All work carries a full guarantee. The new shop is fully stocked and open for business – Simon is looking forward to helping you all this summer. See main advert for your free water analysis on page 48

Things Women Say That Men Misunderstand You’ve probably tried learning French, Spanish, or German, but those are nothing compared to Woman (the language). Most scholars agree that the only thing more impossible than understanding the language of women is dividing by 0. You have no hope. Here are some things women say that men misunderstand 1. Nothing :) It is something. It is definitely something and you had better figure it out real quick. 2. Do I look fat in this?  A better translation would be “Do you think I’m ugly?” and the answer is categorically “no”. 3. Go ahead. Do not misconstrue this as permission. In fact, it’s more of a dare. Actually, its always a dare. Don’t do it. 4. No. It means No! 5. Yes. In most cases this also means no. There are exceptions but they are very hard to distinguish.

6. Maybe. Still no. 7. It would be nice if.... Everything following the “if” is meant to be interpreted as an unconditional order. 8. Fine. This means the argument is over and you lost. 9. It’s okay. It’s never okay. This only means that she needs some time to figure out your punishment. 10. It’s up to you. If you think this means you have freedom to choose then you are very, very mistaken. A much better translation would be “It’s up to you… 11. Loud Sigh. You might not think so, but this is actually a word and it can roughly be translated as “I can’t believe I have to stand here and put up with your stupidity”. Good luck learing your new language!

Salesman Of The Year A keen Texas lad applied for a salesman’s job at a city department store. The store was the biggest in the world and sold everything under the sun... At the interview, the boss took an immediate liking to the lad and told him he could start the next day. “I’ll come and see how you made out after we close up,” the boss said. The day was long and hard for the young man, but finally it was 5 o’clock. The boss closed up the store and found the lad sitting, slumped and exhausted, in a chair. “How many sales did you make today?” the boss asked. “One,” said the lad. “One?” said the bos, obviously displeased. “Most of the sales people on my staff make 20 or 30 sales a day. How much was the sale worth?” “Exactly $101,334.53,” said the young man.

“How did you manage that?” asked the boss, flabbergasted. “Well,” said the lad, “this man came in and I sold him a small fish hook, then a medium fish hook, and finally a really large hook. Then I sold him a small fishing line, a medium one, and a huge one. I asked him where he was going fishing, and he said he was going down the coast. I said he’d probably need a boat, so I took him down to the boat departmenrt and sold him that fancy 22-foot Chris Craft with twin engines. Then he said his Honda Civic probably wouldn’t be able to handle the load, so I took him to the vehicle department and sold him a new GMC-1-ton pickup truck.” “You sold all that to a guy who came in for a fish hook?” the boss asked in astonishment. “He didn’t come in to buy a fish hook,” the Texas boy explained. “He came in to buy a box of tampons for his wife, and I said to him, “Your weekend’s shot. You might as well go fishing.”

Kestrel Counselling Your weight loss kick start to a lighter, brighter you! Obesity is becoming a big problem in the UK and worldwide. The theory of losing weight is easy on paper – a person has to eat fewer calories than they burn. However, the reality of losing weight can be a real challenge for many people. Food can be an addiction for some people. We often use the term ‘comfort eating’. Breaking out of the cycle of overeating and starting a new lifestyle can be an exciting journey. However, this journey may be full of bumps and curves. Many eating habits have been formed over many years, even a lifetime. No one gets overweight overnight. The weight also cannot be lost overnight. It takes time and patience. It can also be an exciting journey of self discovery to a completely new, more energetic, fitter, happier, self confident you. In our experience weight loss is made up of 3 parts: • 60% What you eat • 20% How much you exercise • 20% Your attitude to food, life and exercise We believe that there are no unhealthy foods, but there are unhealthy diets. Any food can be part of a healthy diet. We do not ban any foods – and yes we do enjoy pizza, McDonalds – but not every day. This is not about ‘going on a diet’ and then going back to the old habits. The old habits got you to the place where you are today. This is about learning new habits, learning about your relationship with food and making long lasting sustainable changes that will help you maintain your weight long term. Using our experience, both personal and working with clients, we have put together a programme that helps with all 3 areas to help you and your family develop a new healthier lifestyle. Our programme is customised for every client to help you navigate normal life, whilst losing weight, making changes that are then sustainable to maintain the weight for life. We offer an initial 30 minutes consultation either by telephone or on Skype. This is your chance to hear more about our programme and ask any questions you may have. The initial chat is without charge or obligation. Visit our website for more information: www.weightlosscostadelsol.com

Recipe Of The Month Welcome to this new recipe page, where we will be featuring some delicious treats and fabulous bakes that I hope will inspire and encourage you to try out for yourself at home As a professional wedding and celebration cake designer, I am always on the lookout for new and exciting cake projects or dessert ideas to test and try out; writing for ‘The Sentinella’ will give me the opportunity to share some of my favourite recipes and projects with you. So, over the next few months I hope you will join me on this sweet sojourn, as I share with you these delicious baking projects and recipes to tantalise your taste buds and get your creative juices flowing! One of my recent commissions was an ‘Easter Cupcake Bouquet’. This is a wonderful way to display cupcakes and create a stunning effect. This project involves a little baking and a little crafting. Beautiful Cupcake Bouquet - Difficulty Level: Relatively Easy. To Make a bouquet of 12 cupcakes, you will need:Non Food Items: - Small container, a plant pot/vase – approx 11cm diameter - A polystyrene ball, slightly larger in diameter than your container - 12cm diameter so it sits comfortably on the top. - 24 Cocktail sticks (2 per cake to avoid them spinning!) - Glue - optional, if you wish to secure the polystyrene ball into place on your container. - Tissue paper in green and pink. For the Cupcakes: Cupcake baking tin x 12 cupcake cases 175g Marg/butter 175g Sugar 3 Eggs (at room temperature) 175g S.R. Flour Sifted ½ tspoon of Baking Powder

For the Icing: 500g Icing Sugar 75g Softened butter piping bag large ‘open’ star nozzle food colouring is optional should you decide to add colour to your ‘flowers’

Method: 1. Set the oven to 175 degrees fan (190 degrees conventional) 2. Place the cupcake cases in the cupcake tin. 3. Place butter & sugar into mixing bowl, beat until soft & creamy. 4. Slowly add the eggs. 5. Stir in the sifted flour and baking powder, do not beat as the gluten must not be stretched. 6. Divide the cake mixture into the cupcake cases, the cases should be 2/3 full. 7. Place in the oven and bake for 15/20 mins 8. When golden brown and cooked remove from the oven. 9. Place on a cooling rack and allow to cool. 10. Once the cupcakes are cool you can decorate. 11. Preparing the buttercream icing. 12. Place the butter into a mixing bowl and beat until soft. 13. Slowly add the icing sugar until you have a creamy, pale consistency. Decorating the cupcakes: - Put your nozzle into the piping bag. - Place the butter cream into the piping bag. - Pipe the buttercream onto each cupcake, starting from the centre and working in a circular motion towards the edge of the cupcake. - Repeat this step until all the cupcakes are iced. Assembling the Cupcakes Sit the polystyrene ball on the container and glue into place.

Starting on the top of the polystyrene ball insert two cocktail sticks approx half way in, close to each other – these are going to hold one cupcake in place. Slide a cupcake on to the cocktail stick and gently push down into place. Working in rows around the circumference of your polystyrene ball, starting beneath the cupcake in place at the top, repeat the above steps for each cupcake you attach. Once your polystyrene ball is covered with all the cupcakes you can now fill in between them with green tissue paper. Cut the tissue paper into leaf shapes approx 4cm long and 2cm wide. Tuck the tissue leaves between the cupcakes to fill in the gaps and create the greenery. If you wish you can finish your masterpiece off by adding a gift tag and/or wrapbrightly in ping coloured paper. These make fabulous gifts not just for Easter but also as birthday cake gifts too. Yours... Sue x

THE JOURNEY INTO SPAIN- Advertising Feature CATALYSING HEALTH AND VITALITY IN COUNTRY NUMBER 47 His burnout and depression had been met by psychotherapists, a cocktail of pharmaceutical drugs and a learned attitude of ‘just cope with it’. Try The Journey, a friend suggested, you got nothing to loose. One Journey Intensive workshop later it seemed like the dull nightmare called life had been replaced with something he had always dreamt of: a life full of energy, joy and vitality. Nutritionists, herbalists, doctors, dermatologists, no one had been able to let her body enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine like anyone else. Decades of dealing with a rare skin condition were taking its toll: she didn’t feel sociable anymore, and certainly not loveable underneath her covering clothes. Someone recommended Brandon Bays’ bestselling book ‘The Journey’; it talks about the underlying root cause of mental, emotional and physical symptoms. She read it, underwent The Journey Intensive, and suddenly saw the skin change right before her own eyes. These are not just stories, they are true stories. The kind of stories that Arnold & Claire Timmerman have been hearing and witnessing around the world since 2000. Both have been trained as Journey Practitioners by The Journey founder Brandon Bays. Both have been work-

ing with her around the world facilitating seminars, retreats and training programs in this method that seems to keep changing lives around the world. And both have been international presenters for The Journey since 2008. With Bays’ book translated into 21 languages (including Spanish: ‘El Viaje’) and The Journey seminars held in 46 countries, it was only a matter of time before her work would be introduced into Spain. Arnold & Claire took it upon themselves to be the catalysts. They explain: ‘For a while now, we’ve been noticing in our 11 coaching and group work here in southern Spain that there’s a thirst for something that can deal with emotional, mental and physical struggle and can support healing and transformation in a simple, practical and effective way. And we’re not just talking about traumatized people, we’re also talking about everyday people who have already had the courage to set up their lives in a different country, they might even be into mind body health and spirituality. Still, like anyone else, they can get bogged down by life’s circumstances and challenges without knowing how to really deal with them. That’s why Brandon gave us permission to offer The Journey seminars here. We’re very excited to support both the international and the Spanish community, starting with the Journey Intensive 3rd-5th June in Órgiva.’ See main advert opposite

La Vaqueria - Benamargosa Oh my goodness, May already. Where does the time go? The older we get the faster it seems to fly by and here we are, that “write your editorial” time of the month and I am late again!

life which, based on my visits to the UK, I believe we have and yet there still never seem to be quite enough hours in the day. Even retired people “with all the time in the world” don’t have quite time to do as much as they would like.

Time is relative apparently, but relative to what? What we are doing? Our age? Our circumstances in life? Our stomachs?! Apart from the clock on the wall or the sun for those who are aware of its position each day we don’t actually realise time is passing. We have markers of course…the weekend marks a week, the advertising deadline marks a month (for me anyway!) and birthdays remind us another year has flown by. In fact anything that we do on a regular basis marks the passage of time. If you are having trouble keeping track of it, perhaps a regular art class might help? We have them every Wednesday and Thursday.

For the self-employed, time is money, they say; how true but if you go down that road you are headed into heart attack country. Here at La Vaqueria we take a more relaxed approach to it all these days. My circumstances have changed with my eldest daughter now working here, taking over La Vaqueria kitchen and eradicating the stress caused by never having enough time. With more time to paint I get completely absorbed for hours on end, thus losing lots of hours and having less time left than before…it’s a no win situation!!

People accuse artists of having their head in the clouds; of having no proper sense of time. This may be true but it is certainly the same for anyone who is absorbed in what they are doing – the interest in the project being far more consuming until the tummy rumbles and you realise you have missed lunch! Many ex-pats moved here for a slower pace of

For those of you with a little time to spare I suggest taking a drive out along the river valley to Benamargosa for a visit to La Vaqueria…peruse our gift and souvenir shop, enjoy homemade cake or chat over a breakfast or lunch indoors in our tea room style café, sup a hand crafted beer on the patio or relax in our pretty tranquil garden. It’s a perfect way to spend a day, and we are looking forward to welcoming you. See main advert on page 110

Axarquia Sol Aqua Solar Pool Pumps

It costs on average 1,300€ per year to run a pool pump 4-6 hours per day, in the summer months, possibly more!

From my building/engineering background of some 30 years, I looked at this problem, as turning your pump off is not a option, or is it? The solution I came up with was to install a German manufactured solar pump, with a high life expectancy, as it is brushless. This far exceeds most normal pump life by some 5 times. It is installed / plumbed alongside your existing pump, keeping this as a back up, seems common sense. A simple 3 panel solar array is installed, at a practical existing roof point. In full sunlight, the basic model pumps a little over 4,000 gallons per hour. For example: a 10m x 4.5m wide is approx. 14,298 imp gallons so in 3.5 hours it has filtered the whole pool for free. The average cost, fully installed, subject to survey is 3,500€ of which you would only pay to Endesa for the existing pumps electricity use in a 3 year period anyway. To register an interest in this and see a fully functional system, shortly to be fitted locally, near Lake Vinuela, email: ianmidwinter2@gmail.com

Please mention The Sentinella Have Your Oven Cleaned It’s spring and we all like a spring clean. It makes us feel better, fresher, cleaner, ready and prepared for the summer season For me, spring cleaning involves cleaning out the kitchen cupboards, sweeping behind furniture, cleaning the windows and runners and throwing some old clothes away that have been sundried during the previous summer. This year I went the whole hog and I cleaned every nook and cranny – including having my oven professionally cleaned. I called Steve from Axarquia Oven Cleaning whose job is to restore ovens, hobs and kitchen extractors back to their former glory... well, does he? I booked Steve in one sunny morning at 10am and when I arrived at my house at 10.04am, there he was prompt and ready to tackle my dirty oven. First, Steve looked around outside so he could prepare his working space as he needs space for his equipment and cold water, then it was inside to see the unlovely sight. Once he knew where everything was, he was straight to work – firstly laying down protective sheets to protect the surroundings, taking care to cover everything extremely well. He started by taking the oven apart and placing the racks in the boiler to soak, along with water and biodegadeable chemicals. With that done, Steve was then straight to work on the main frame of the oven. Now, I put my hands up and admit that I never really clean my oven as such – it gets an occasional wipe but that’s about it, so Steve had his work cut out. Whilst he was spraying and using elbow grease to turn my black oven into a sparkling newbie, we chatted and Steve explained that all the sprays he uses are bio-degradable, friendly chemicals and that usually, a typical oven takes about four hours. Once the main oven had been cleaned, Steve returned to the gas boiler and scrubbed the racks, put the oven back together and informed me the job was completed; the oven was now safe and ready to use. I opened the oven, and I can honestly say I was shocked at what I saw – a sparkling, shiny brand new oven! I was so happy to have it back to its former glory. If your oven is looking gloomy and has lost its shine, then Steve is the man you need to call. He’s very professional, straight to the job and does what he says he will do... so let Steve handle the hard work when it comes to cleaning your oven – after all, it is one of the least popular household chores! Eerie figure of 'Jesus' Bizarre footage has captured what some internet users believe to be the eerie figure of Jesus floating above houses in a small town The phenomenon was captured in the village of San Sebastian Bernal, now known as Pueblo Magico de Bernal - or "Magical Town" in the Mexican state of Queretaro.

In the clip, a large dark figure with what looks like outstretched arms suddenly appears before quickly disappearing again.

The video has been seen several thousand times and a lively comment debate has been sparked between social media users. Sceptics say the image was either edited or it was a bird flying by, which for a moment formed the figure when sunlight deformed its shadow. One user wrote: "It’s obviously an insect that flew close to the lens." Whilst another wrote: "First investigate if there was a party at the time because you can clearly see the lights projecting a hologram, this technology is very elementary for those who want to try it, and this is them projecting the image of Jesus accompanied by his angels." One viewer said: "This is not a bird or a fairy, this is a phenomenon seen before in places with a high energy charge. This is an animal which up until now has not been seen due to the speed of its flight." However, many other viewers have called the figure a bad omen, an angel or even a being from another planet. One user wrote: "Aliens exist and they’re in your town."

Silica Bags - Don’t Throw Them Away Never throw away Silica bags again These little bags of beads that are found when you buy shoes, handbags, and electronic items are actually incredibly useful. So ignore the “throw away” warning. The beads are made of silicon dioxide, which removes moisture from the surrounding air by attracting water particles and so protect items from becoming damp and developing mould.

save them from getting stuck together or getting ruined. Extend the life of your razor blades, put your razor in a tuppleware box with a few bags after each shave. The bags will dry out any moisture and make them last a lot longer. It’s worth thinking twice before throwing them away!

For example, placing them in your gym bag stops your kit from getting mouldy and smelly; leaving a few on the dashboard of your car prevents the windshield from fogging up. If you drop your phone in water pop it in a jar filled with this balls you will have a much better chance of saving it than in rice. Save old photos, photos deteriorate in time, put a few of these bags in a box of old photos could

Goodnight Ronnie RONNIE Corbett was secretly battling with motor neurone disease before his death, his wife has revealed. The legendary comedian passed away last month aged 85, though the cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Ronnie's wife Anne Hart revealed he had been battling the disease before his death. Corbett first began showing signs of the illness back in December 2014. His wife noted that he “started to feel unwell and found it hard to breathe and to lie down”. The comedian, best known for starring in The Two Ronnies and his monologues from an outsized chair, was then diagnosed with motor neurone disease at London’s Royal Brompton Hospital last year. Anne explained: “As you can imagine, it just knocked us both back. We had not really heard of it.”

They featured some of Bowie’s biggest hits. Blondie icon Harry sang Starman for the packed crowd, whilst Stipe took to the stage to deliver a rendition of Ashes to Ashes. Star Wars character Chewbacca also made an appearance, joining The Flaming Lips for Life On Mars. The line-up also featured Pixies and John Lennon's son Sean Ono Lennon, with performers paying tribute and helping raise money for music education schemes for underprivileged children. The second concert took place at the Radio City Music Hall a week later, and was livestreamed for fans to enjoy online. In exchange for a recommended charity donation of £15, viewers were able to watch it live. Bowie's producer Tony Visconti, Mumford & Sons and Miley Cyrus also appeared.

Bowie tribute Two concerts in New York have paid tribute to musician David Bowie, who died in January. Debbie Harry, Cyndi Lauper, REM frontman Michael Stipe and many more sang Bowie songs but ironically, the first concert was arranged and announced even before the star died. It had been intended as just a retrospective look at the Starman’s work over the years. The emotional concerts were sold out in just two hours, and took place in Carnegie Hall.

Please mention The Sentinella when responding to adverts Casey déjà vu Coronation Street viewers may have recognised Liz McDonalds's new love interest. Actor Stephen Casey plays Chris, who meets Liz at a music club at the community centre. However, it's not the first time that the actor has appeared in Weatherfield – Stephen has played three different roles on the soap already. His first appearance was way back in 1998 when he played the role of Det. Inspector Grey. He then returned to the ITV soap in 2009 when he played a prison governor who felt Fiz's wrath when she wasn't able to see her then husband John Stape who had been put on suicide watch. Back in 2013, the small screen actor made an appearance on the famous street. This time, he swapped his prison governor role for a barrister who was at Tyrone Dobbs' trial in 2013. However, it appears Stephen isn't the only one who is familiar with the soap. New cast member Leon Ockenden recently revealed to OK! Online that he previously auditioned for the soap three times before landing the role of Michelle McDonald's first boyfriend Will.

Scotty then revealed he hasn’t “sat down and spoken” to his former Big Brother housemates. & t i u Fr Facts es o Veg Tomat Whether you refer to a tomato as a fruit or a vegetable, there is no doubt that it is a nutrient-dense super-food that most people should be eating more of Due to their beneficial phytochemicals such as lycopene, tomatoes play a role in preventing chronic disease and deliver other health benefits.

eral density and reduction in the formation of kidney stones Cooking tomatoes appears to increase the availability of key nutrients such as the caroteinoids lycopene, lutein and zeaxanthin. Stewed tomatoes provide considerably more lutein and zeaxanthin than sun dried tomatoes and raw cherry tomatoes. Choline, contained in tomatoes, helps with sleep, muscle movement, learning and memory, and also helps to maintain the structure of cellular membranes. It aids in the transmission of nerve impulses, assists in the absorption of fat and reduces chronic inflammation.

Lycopene has been linked with prostate cancer prevention in several studies. The fibre, potassium, vitamin C and choline content in tomatoes all support heart health. An increase in potassium intake along with a decrease in sodium intake is the most important dietary change that the average person can make to reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease. The synthesis of collagen, an essential component of the skin, hair, nails and connective tissue, is reliant on vitamin C. As vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, a low intake is associated with increased damage from sunlight, pollution and smoke, leading to wrinkles, sagging skin, blemishes and other adverse health effects. Maintaining a low sodium intake helps to keep blood pressure healthy; however, increasing potassium intake may be just as important because of its vaso-dilation effects. Tomatoes also contain folic acid, which helps to keep homocysteine levels in check, thereby reducing another risk factor for heart disease. Excess homocysteine also interferes with the production of the feel-good hormones serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine, which regulate mood, sleep and appetite.

People Who Come And Go Lynda and Geoff, Salto del Negro Spain is said to be the noisiest country in Europe, and the noisiest places of all are the cities, and often the villages!! But some villages, tucked away in the avocado groves of the lush river valleys of La Axarquía area are so peaceful and bucolic, they offer the ideal mix between country and village life. This is what Lynda and Geoff sought, nine years ago, leaving behind a country home in Torrox where they felt too isolated, to buy a house in the pretty hamlet of Salto del Negro, just a stone’s throw from Benamargosa village, chosen for its peace and tranquility. And the house not only has an exquisite little inner courtyard, but it also has a garden – and even a little piece of orchard with a good selection of fruit trees and ideal for a little veggie plot! Lynda and Geoff carried out quite a bit of internal renovation on their house, including a new roof and it became an ongoing project. “We really enjoyed researching design ideas to suit the house and resourcing materials and furnishings”, says Lynda, reminiscing over a beer in the patio.

Asked what they have loved most about living in this environment they are quick to say the interaction with their friendly and helpful neighbours has been wonderful and they were quickly obliged to greatly improve their Spanish! And from the village the walks along the river bed are wonderful and it is easy to walk into Benamargosa village. “Living in Spain is a wonderful experience for anyone, and we would highly recommend it to anyone with a love of life and new challenges.” This lovely house is now up for sale as Lynda and Geoff are ready to take on a new challenge elsewhere (see AX361 in the ad. below). ing ife ead z a Am ine Lheepseh MaArsian SWrass We all know the sea is thick with fish. With so many different species, some are bound to be a little unsightly. It’s basically a numbers game, and the Asian Sheepshead Wrasse happens to be a victim of the odds

This species is valued as a food fish in its native range. Like its close relative, the California sheepshead wrasse (Semicossyphus pulcher), the juvenile is starkly different from the adult, being a vivid yellowish-orange with a white stripe from the eye to the tail, black patches on the fins and tail, and lacking the bulbous face protrusions of the adults, for which the species earns its common name. Almost nothing is known of the biology and ecology of the Asian sheepshead wrasse, other than that it feeds on shellfish and crustaceans

This fish swims the shallow waters around China, Japan and the Koreas while resembling a very old man With bulging protrusions on its head and jaw, this is a face only a mother could love It can reach 100cm (39in) in total length and the greatest weight recorded for this species is 14.7kg (32lb) This is a cold-water to subtropical species that inhabits rocky reefs.

Ways To Use Alcohol That Do Not Involve Drinking It! 1. Clean your windows with vodka Mix vodka and water in a spray bottle and get rid of those nasty streaks. 2. Use the same mixture in number 1 on your mirrors, too 3. Make your plants grow strong with beer If a beer is left open overnight and goes flat, pour it into your potted plants as fertilizer 4. You can use vodka to refresh fabrics that can't be washed, like your couch Mix two ounces of vodka, a tablespoon of vinegar, water, and your favourite essential oils in a spray bottle. Then spray away odours and germs! 5. This mixture from number 4 can also remove "thrift store smell" from clothes 6. A shot of vodka makes pie crust extra flakey

7. Remove sticky labels from glass jars by soaking them in vodka 8. Get rid of dandruff with vodka and rosemary Mix two teaspoons of rosemary leaves with a half cup of vodka. Let the mixture soak for two days, strain out the rosemary, and wash your hair with it.

You’d think that if anyone could partner up, it’d be Superman and Batman—the dogooding champions of Metropolis and Gotham City. But these two superheroes have gotten off on the wrong foot. Sure, Superman has already saved the planet once (in Man of Steel), taking down General Zod in a battle for the ages. There’s just one problem: that fight killed thousands and brought down half of Metropolis. Playboy billionaire Bruce Wayne happened to be in town that day, watching as buildings collapsed, friends died, and children wailed as they pointed to the broken buildings where their parents were.

The world may be calling Superman a hero. But Bruce—as Batman, isn’t so sure. And Superman isn’t thrilled with Batman, either. Clearly, the quibbles are building toward a confrontation. If only Superman had some sort of weakness … It turns out, he does! Survivors from the planet Krypton don’t react well to bits of their home planet. And a few stray fragments seem to be finding their way earthward. Unfortunately for Bruce, none have landed in Gotham City. And they’re tricky to track down, even if one knew what to do with them. There’s only one other billionaire who has the resources to find a bit of kryptonite, and who knows how to use it. Lex Luthor. And if Superman’s comic-book history is any indication, Lex isn't the sort of chap you'd want getting his mitts on kryptonite Star Rating ***/*****

TECHNOLOGY THAT ENSURES YOU MAXIMISE YOUR POTENTIAL But how? Well let me ask you a couple of questions. Are you already a business owner, or want to start working for yourself? If yes, then please read on but first, a little bit of background to the ever-changing world of technology. At this moment about three billion people have the internet out of a potential seven billion, and most of them, like you and me, have smartphones. They are not only used to send emails and communicate on the social networks but to read the news, watch films, listen to music etc. For a lot of us now, we can do our day-to-day business on them. We can work remotely anywhere in the world and have a vast audience in front of us. Mobile internet gives us speed of information, communication and entertainment and makes this world ever smaller. This is nothing new, you might say, and what does it mean for me? Firstly, a business owner wants more sales for their product or service. Secondly, someone wanting to work for themselves needs to generate enough income to have a life, of course. Therefore we create a fusion between the two in order to achieve our goals. It sounds simple but the best things are, and we are helping people co-operate with each other using technology as the medium. Let us be honest – we ultimately all want results from our advertising but at what cost. It is free to use Google, Facebook and Yahoo and they don’t sell anything, so why are these companies worth billions of dollars? The answer is through online advertising! How would you like to get paid to advertise your business? Or if you don’t have a business to advertise all you have to do is just view 10 adverts a day. In both cases as a member of the company you participate in the profit share programme. This means we give back to our participating members 95% of our profits. If you don’t believe me, ask Kami at The Sentinella who is in the early stages of using this. Plus you can always try before you buy so give it a go www.clickviewearn.co Choose new online business or advertising and let us arrange a time to talk to get you started and maximise your potential. I was very surprised to hear she no longer works at Woolworths!! ------------------------------------------------------------I sat on my hand for fifteen minutes earlier, before hoovering the living room. Just so it felt like the wife was doing it. ------------------------------------------------------------If I ever catch up with the doctor who messed up my limb transplant operation, I will kill him with my bear hands. ------------------------------------------------------------I was driving around the other day and started feeling really horny. So I decided to swing by this well known dogging spot that was close by. There were a few other cars there so I pulled up and joined in. I had a great time, but I think I failed my driving test. ------------------------------------------------------------Just watched the stage version of Brokeback Mountain. Shouting out "He's behind you" didn't go down as well as it usually does in theatre. ------------------------------------------------------------Did you know Shania Twain got a younger sister called choo choo Phil Oakey also has a younger sister, called Carrie ------------------------------------------------------------A hungry traveller stops at a monastery and is taken to the kitchens. A brother is frying chips. 'Are you the friar?' he asks. It said on the box, "Made from 100% recycled paper." No wonder they tasted like s***! ------------------------------------------------------------A father came home from a long business trip to find his young son riding a brand new bike. "Where did you get the money for that?" he asked. "It must have cost over £300." "I earned it hiking," replied the boy. "Hiking??? Come on son, tell your Dad the truth. Nobody can make that sort of money hiking. Where did you really get the cash from?" "It's like I say, Dad. Every night when you were gone, Mr. Goldberg from the bank would come over to see Mum. He'd give me a 20 pound note and tell me to take a hike!" ------------------------------------------------------------Don’t knock the weather. If it didn’t change once in a while, nine tenths of the people couldn’t start a conversation ------------------------------------------------------------One of the original Knights of the Round Table has died. RIP Sir Cumference. ------------------------------------------------------------The wife & I like classical music and she asked me if I could get some CDs by Beethoven, Mozart and Schubert while I was out.
